Form: ………(sentence)………………. , helping verb + subject pronoun?
Negative (not/never) → positive
Positive → negative
Ex: He is doing well, isn't he?
They will win, won't they?
Helping verbs of present simple: do/ does
Ex: Hana writes well, doesn't she?
They make mistakes, don't they?
They do their homework, don't they?
Helping verbs of past simple: did Ex: He went yesterday, didn't he?
Answering question tag:
- If the main sentence is positive → question tag answer is positive
Ex: Ahmed was ill yesterday, wasn't he? Yes, he was.
- If the main sentence is negative → question tag answer is negative
Ex: Ahmed was not ill yesterday, was he? No he was not.
Question Tag Important Examples:
- I am happy, aren't I? - I am not happy, am I?
- There was not anyone at school, was there? - There aren't any students in class, are there?
- This is your cat, isn't it? - That is your cat, isn't it? - It is your cat, isn't it?
- These are my best friends, aren't they? - Those are my best friends, aren't they?
