Question 7
Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt
in the progression from it to the full product?
Research
• For my preliminary task I only gathered images of front covers and
contents pages of magazine. I put them onto a word document and
uploaded it to Weebly, but I did not analyse them. Due to this I could
not find the codes and conventions of the genre and so did not how
to adapt or challenge them as effectively.
• For my full product, I gathered front covers, contents pages, and
double page spread and analysed them so that I found the codes and
conventions. I also gathered a list of terminology so that I knew the
proper names.

Planning
• For my preliminary task, I did a sketch of the contents page and a
double page spread. I only labelled what would go where and did not
go into detail about it’s mise-en-scene. I changed the colour for some
but that was the extent. I did not know the content of what I had
labelled.
• For my full product, I did label my drafts in more detail. I labelled it
and then described what it would be. I also did two drafts after I
changed one of them because I started again, showing my progress.

Construction
• For my preliminary task I cut out my image with an eraser and did not do it
as carefully. For my final product, I could cut out my image of the singer
neater because I used the quick select tool in Photoshop. I knew this from
my improved research. I then zoomed in to the edges and rubbed out
anything that I had missed. This made it look much neater.
• For my final product, I added more detail on my magazine. This was
because I looked up the codes and conventions. I looked up my fonts more
closely and tried to make them more original. I chose the fonts based on
the codes and conventions of fonts in that genre. The content is also more
realistic as well because I saw what was the most common for the content
in that genre, because I researched better. All my photos were original
unlike my preliminary task which shows I have improved with taking
pictures and using more original ones rather than just snatching them from
the internet like I did with my preliminary task.
