The student has made progress on several tasks for creating a magazine, including adding layers to work, learning layout and photo editing tools, understanding different formats and genres, taking studio photos, finding an angle to appeal to rock fans, writing articles in the proper genre style, and creating effective headlines. The most difficult aspects were constructing the magazine cover, contents page, and articles while considering textures, tones, impressions and feel, and piecing together individual sections so that pictures, text, and parts fit cohesively across the magazine, which required extensive planning.

Challenges for implementing Monte Carlo Tree Search in commercial gamesMatthew Bedder
[Presented at the 2016 IGGI Symposium, held at the University of Goldsmiths]
Monte Carlo Tree Search is a stochastic tree search technique that has seen much interest within academia due to its strength of play in card and board games. Despite this interest, it has rarely been used in commercial games. In this talk I describe how MCTS works, suggest some of the issues facing its application to commercial games, and suggest some new areas of research that could address these challenges.
#1NLab16 - Training for the Long Run: How to Strengthen Your Analytics PlatformOne North
Senior Strategist Cathy Lynk and Strategist Mitch Diehl discuss not only the importance of analytics in building a digital strategy, but also how to create a plan to put those analytics to work.
I developed the Customer Sentiment Index, a measure based on a single word that customers use to describe a company. Using the following question, "What one word best describes this company?", Results show that the customer-generated words can be reliably scaled along a sentiment continuum and that these scores (CSI) are logically related to important customer experience metrics, like customer loyalty and satisfaction with the customer experience.

thGAP - BAbyss in Moderno!! Transgenic Human Germline Alternatives ProjectMarc Dusseiller Dusjagr
thGAP - Transgenic Human Germline Alternatives Project, presents an evening of input lectures, discussions and a performative workshop on artistic interventions for future scenarios of human genetic and inheritable modifications.
To begin our lecturers, Marc Dusseiller aka "dusjagr" and Rodrigo Martin Iglesias, will give an overview of their transdisciplinary practices, including the history of hackteria, a global network for sharing knowledge to involve artists in hands-on and Do-It-With-Others (DIWO) working with the lifesciences, and reflections on future scenarios from the 8-bit computer games of the 80ies to current real-world endeavous of genetically modifiying the human species.
We will then follow up with discussions and hands-on experiments on working with embryos, ovums, gametes, genetic materials from code to slime, in a creative and playful workshop setup, where all paticipant can collaborate on artistic interventions into the germline of a post-human future.
5. PROGRESS:
Since my pre-liminary task, I have improved with adding
layers to pieces of work I am doing, I have learnt how to edit
text and pictures to make an effective layout for my
magazine, I have been used tools to cut out and create effects
on pictures, I have learnt how different forms and
conventions will affect the appeal, audience and genre of my
magazine, I have been able to learn how to take effective
(styled) pictures in a studio set-up, I have found an effective
angle for my magazine to make it appeal to fans of the rock
genre, through my extensive research and notes I have
realized how an article of this genre should be written and I
have been able to successfully construct bright and effective
headlines in order to attract the audience.
6. The other findings I have made are that the actual
construction of something like a magazine cover, contents
page and article is that it is predominantly difficult; you
must think about the texture, tones, impressions, effects and
general feel of the magazine as well as trying to construct it
to make an effective spread. Also, I found that trying to
piece the individual parts together when making each
section of the magazine because you had to think about
where and how pictures and text were going to be placed
and how they would fit in with the other parts of the same
piece (and the whole magazine). I found this part the most
difficult because it involved a large amount of planning to
place each individual piece of text and picture to create a
more believable and effective magazine.
