QUESTION 7: LOOKING BACK AT YOUR PRELIMINARY
TASK, WHAT DO YOU FEEL YOU HAVE LEARNT IN THE
PROGRESSION FROM IT TO THE FULL PRODUCT?
HAVE YOU FOUND YOU HAVE IMPROVED YOUR
APPROACH TO AUDIENCE RESEARCH/ALALYSING
THE RESULTS OF THEM AND ENSURING THEY
         IMPACT ON YOUR PRODUCT?
• My approach to audience research had improved
a lot, as I felt that actually going out, and
questioning people helped to give me a clearer
outline of the sort of product I wanted to produce.
My research played a big part within the type of
artists I had featured within my magazine, and it
was because of the popularity of mainstream
music, that I chose to produce a magazine in which
was based around the mainstream music industry.
My research helped me from deciding what
adverts to represent within my magazine to me
deciding the colour code of red, white and black.
DO YOU UNDERSTAND THE CONVENTIONS OF MAGAZINES BETTER
AND HOW TO APPLY THEM BETTER IN ORDER TO MAKE THE
         MAGAZINE MORE PROFESSIONAL LOOKING?

I have tried to apply as many conventions as possible
within my work to make it obvious to the reader that it is a
magazine, but also so that it will appeal to them. In my
main magazine task I used a lot more typical conventions
than I did in my preliminary, such as Buzz words, e.g. “Free”
“Exclusive” and “Win.” This was one of my unique selling
points in which drew the audience in. I have used master
heads which are big and bold at the top of the page,
which is also a typical magazine convention. Everything
from the little barcodes and page numbers to main
images and sky lines have been added to my work to
show that it is a conventional music magazine, which
helps to make it look professional.
DO YOU UNDERSTAND THE SOFTWARE
  BETTER (INDESIGN/PHOTOSHOP)?
Looking back at my preliminary task I have learnt a
lot, and it is fair to say that the work I produced for my
main task appeared a lot more professional than it
did originally with my preliminary task. I learnt how to
use certain shadowing techniques on my master
head which brought the text out of the page,
catching the audiences’ eyes more.
HAVE YOU LEARNT HOW TO SET UP SHOTS BETTER AND CONSIDER LOCATION, MIS EN
SCENE AND CAMERA ANGLES IN MORE DETAIL (HAVE YOU LEARNT THAT THE BETTER
YOU CONSIDER THESE ELEMENTS THE MORE STRAIGHT FORWARD THEY ARE TO
                   INCORPORATE INTO YOUR MAGAZINE? )

If I could do this task again I would probably had
changed the location of my main image to make it
look more professional, and to also give it a better
theme. However within my smaller images I have
tried to make it obvious to the audience as to where
they are supposed to be i.e. The contents page
images with the male is clearly meant to be him
singing at a gig, and the female with the straw hat is
clearly supposed to be along the beach front at a
festival. I felt that the images were a main part of the
magazine as it made the magazine instantly more
appealing and eye catching!
HAVE YOU DEVELOPED YOU CRITICAL EVALUATION SKILLS
THROUGH EVALUATING YOUR OWN PRODUCT AND ANALYSING
        EACH OTHER’S THROUGH PEER ASSESSMENTS?

I think the evaluation really helped me, because I was able to
assess it has a whole and really concentrate and reflect on
what I have done during this project, but it has also shown me
all the new skills that I have developed through doing this, for
example; how to use InDesign.
Peer assessments were a good way of seeing how different
people perceived different things, and it helped influence
people within their own work and build up their work to a higher
standard of work. I found other people assessing my work
good, as their opinions mattered to me a lot because the
people who were peer assessing it were within the age range of
my target audience, so it was interesting to see their views on
it, so I could see whether it would catch people’s attention
within the real world, and I personally feel that the production of
this work went quite well, but obviously isn’t quite up to the
standard of the professional music magazines out there.

Question 7 evaluation

  • 1. QUESTION 7: LOOKING BACK AT YOUR PRELIMINARY TASK, WHAT DO YOU FEEL YOU HAVE LEARNT IN THE PROGRESSION FROM IT TO THE FULL PRODUCT?
  • 2. HAVE YOU FOUND YOU HAVE IMPROVED YOUR APPROACH TO AUDIENCE RESEARCH/ALALYSING THE RESULTS OF THEM AND ENSURING THEY IMPACT ON YOUR PRODUCT? • My approach to audience research had improved a lot, as I felt that actually going out, and questioning people helped to give me a clearer outline of the sort of product I wanted to produce. My research played a big part within the type of artists I had featured within my magazine, and it was because of the popularity of mainstream music, that I chose to produce a magazine in which was based around the mainstream music industry. My research helped me from deciding what adverts to represent within my magazine to me deciding the colour code of red, white and black.
  • 3. DO YOU UNDERSTAND THE CONVENTIONS OF MAGAZINES BETTER AND HOW TO APPLY THEM BETTER IN ORDER TO MAKE THE MAGAZINE MORE PROFESSIONAL LOOKING? I have tried to apply as many conventions as possible within my work to make it obvious to the reader that it is a magazine, but also so that it will appeal to them. In my main magazine task I used a lot more typical conventions than I did in my preliminary, such as Buzz words, e.g. “Free” “Exclusive” and “Win.” This was one of my unique selling points in which drew the audience in. I have used master heads which are big and bold at the top of the page, which is also a typical magazine convention. Everything from the little barcodes and page numbers to main images and sky lines have been added to my work to show that it is a conventional music magazine, which helps to make it look professional.
  • 4. DO YOU UNDERSTAND THE SOFTWARE BETTER (INDESIGN/PHOTOSHOP)? Looking back at my preliminary task I have learnt a lot, and it is fair to say that the work I produced for my main task appeared a lot more professional than it did originally with my preliminary task. I learnt how to use certain shadowing techniques on my master head which brought the text out of the page, catching the audiences’ eyes more.
  • 5. HAVE YOU LEARNT HOW TO SET UP SHOTS BETTER AND CONSIDER LOCATION, MIS EN SCENE AND CAMERA ANGLES IN MORE DETAIL (HAVE YOU LEARNT THAT THE BETTER YOU CONSIDER THESE ELEMENTS THE MORE STRAIGHT FORWARD THEY ARE TO INCORPORATE INTO YOUR MAGAZINE? ) If I could do this task again I would probably had changed the location of my main image to make it look more professional, and to also give it a better theme. However within my smaller images I have tried to make it obvious to the audience as to where they are supposed to be i.e. The contents page images with the male is clearly meant to be him singing at a gig, and the female with the straw hat is clearly supposed to be along the beach front at a festival. I felt that the images were a main part of the magazine as it made the magazine instantly more appealing and eye catching!
  • 6. HAVE YOU DEVELOPED YOU CRITICAL EVALUATION SKILLS THROUGH EVALUATING YOUR OWN PRODUCT AND ANALYSING EACH OTHER’S THROUGH PEER ASSESSMENTS? I think the evaluation really helped me, because I was able to assess it has a whole and really concentrate and reflect on what I have done during this project, but it has also shown me all the new skills that I have developed through doing this, for example; how to use InDesign. Peer assessments were a good way of seeing how different people perceived different things, and it helped influence people within their own work and build up their work to a higher standard of work. I found other people assessing my work good, as their opinions mattered to me a lot because the people who were peer assessing it were within the age range of my target audience, so it was interesting to see their views on it, so I could see whether it would catch people’s attention within the real world, and I personally feel that the production of this work went quite well, but obviously isn’t quite up to the standard of the professional music magazines out there.
