- 1. Skills learnt By Emily Turner
- 2. Photography Skills Since starting my production of my Indie magazine my photography skills have improved vastly, I have had time to experiment with angles and different shot types within media to also help me decide how it would affect the audience. I have also learnt how to control the lighting in photography, contrasting and brightness which allows images to stand out. This helped me in achieving a more successful magazine.
- 3. Photo editing Since starting my production of my Indie magazine my photo editing skills have improved as I know how to change the colour, lighting, contrast effectively to make the image look more professional, I have also learnt how to edit and remove the background of an image so I can then insert them onto a page and make it transparent colour, this is helpful and will make my images look more professional. I have also learnt how to adjust the lighting of my images to allow them to stand out, which is typical for my genre so this would be appealing to the audience and be conventional for the genre. This is what I have done on the image above, I edited the colour and adjusted the lighting to enhance certain features on the artists face. I have learnt how to save my images as a JPEG so they are easily transferrable and will allow me to easily insert them where I want. I have also learnt how to crop and resize images to scale so they will fit where I want them, allowing me to create a more professional- looking page. Overall these skills that I have developed have allowed me to create a more successful magazine.

Programs used I used publisher as the base of my work for my front cover, contents page and double page spread so I could then use a variety of different software's in the process of creating my magazine. I also used fireworks and photo shop to edit the image of my artist on my double page spread. I was able to remove background, edit the colour and brightness of an image. Here I edited my main image to make it brighter to appeal to my audience and I also edited it to enhance features of the artists face.
- 5. Conventions Throughout my production I have learnt what type of fonts are suited to my genre and other genres, Indie genre being sans serif font. I have also learnt how to create a house style to make all my pages link together, making it appealing to my target audience. I have learnt what makes a conventional layout –specifically for my genre. This also allowed me to set my layout in a way that is appealing to my audience, It is clear, neat and organised, easy to navigate around, which is helpful to them.
