Throughoutthe productionof mymain taskI had the opportunitytodevelopmyskills,usinga
varietyof technologies.Thisincludessoftware (likeAdobePremierPro) andhardware (like the
GoPro Hero4).
Thisis the camera I usedtofilmthe entiretyof mytitle sequence.Ichose itbecause of itcapability
to shootat 120fps. Thiswouldallowme togetthe slow motionthatI’dplannedtoachieve inmy
film.
As I’dbe usingthe camera frequently,Ineeded tofamiliarise myselfwithitsutilitiesinordertoget
the bestresult.Foreverytake,I leftthe camerain 720p at 120fps but I commonlychangedthe
shootingmode from “wide”,“medium”and“narrow”,thoughI discoveredthat“narrow”isstill very
wide.
Otherthan this,the onlyoptionIwouldchange wasthe Bluetoothconnectivity,inordertoconnect
withmyphone. One of the most useful thingsaboutusingthe GoProHero4 Silver,isthatithas the
abilitytoconnectto a Bluetoothphone withthe GoProapplication. Thisappallowsyoutocontrol
almostany settingonthe GoProfrom yourphone.Italso givesyoua live feedfromthe GoProandso
youcan frame youshotperfectlybefore filming.
The onlyletdownwas that,at timesIwouldn’tbe able toconnectto the GoPro veryquicklyand
withlimitedamountsof lightwhileshooting,itwasquite frustrating. Igotoverthisproblemby
connectedbothdevicesfarpriortowhenI neededtoshoot,thissavedtime andreducedthe chance
of issuesarising.
I useda varietyof Adobe programsto helpme inpost,althoughnotall of themcontributedtothe
final film.OvermyeditingperiodIusedPremierPro,AfterEffectsandPhotoshop.Thoughtthe work
I didin Photoshop wasn’tusedinthe end.IalsousedFlash,butthat wasinProduction.
PremierProisthe program I usedthe mostin post-production.It’swhatIeditedthe whole filmon
includingaudio,video,andtitles. Ialreadyhadanextensiveknowledge of the programbecause I’d
useditto editfilmsformyYouTube channel,butI still managedtolearnnew thingsaboutit.One
example beinghowtouse a sixteen-pointgarbage matte.Thisisaneffectthatallowspartsof one
videoshowthroughanother,like inthisframe fromthe film (showscreenshot).
The onlythingI usedAfterEffectsfor,wasto create the rain effectthataccompaniesthe maintitle.I
thoughtit wasimportantto have some kindof animationalongwiththe title thatrelatestothemes
withinthe restof the film.Imade the rainusinga particle generatorwithinAfterEffectsthatI’d
neverusedbefore.Thoughitwasn’tinthe final filmIalsotriedtotrack the camera of the sleeping
bag shot,inorder to attach a title tothe backgroundonthe scene but aftersome difficultywith
computerspeedIdecideditwasn’tworththe effort.
I originallyusedFlashtocreate myfilmproductionlogo,butwhenitcame toeditingthe maintask,I
decidedthat,tobettersuitconventionsof productionlogos, Ineededtomake it more colourful and
interestingandsothat is whatI did. I didthisby addingcolourswere Ithoughtitappropriate.I’d
alreadylearnthowtodo thiskindof animationonflashfromdoingGCSECore ICT andso didn’t
learnand extraskillsfromthisprogram.

2. The tripodI usedwas the Hama Star 61 whichismypersonal tripodthatcosts around£20.
Unfortunatelyit’snotverysmoothwhenbeingusedforpanningandothermovement;fortunately
there are onlytwo shotwhichneededmovementandalsoI learntthatslow motionlessensthe
staggeringeffectthatthe tripodcreates.
I useda couple of website forvariousdifferentstagesof production.MostimportantlyIused
YouTube to uploadthe video, makingitpublic.I’ve done thismanytimesbefore andsoitwas fairly
easyto do. In termsof usingTumblr,Iwas not sofamiliarwithitandI foundembeddingPrezisand
Slidesharesdifficulttobeginwithbutovertime Ilearnthow to utilise mostof Tumblr’sfunctions.
Overall,whilstdoingthismaintask,ithasbeenquite anevent splitbetweenusingskillsIhadbefore
and learningandusingnewknowledge.Ithinkthatisgreat insome ways,as my efficiencyisn’t
effectedbywhatIdon’tknowbut I still pickuptricksalongthe way.
