1. EVALUATION QUESTION 4 & 5
WHO WOULD BE THE AUDIENCE FOR YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT?
HOW DID YOU ATTRACT/ADDRESS YOUR AUDIENCE?
2. Target Audience
The Target Audience for my magazine:
• 16-25 year olds
• Both male and female
• Listen/interested in Pop/Indie Music
Throughout the production of my construction I have conferred with my target
audience a number of times through my focus group and they have given me useful
feedback on what that particular audience would want from a music magazine.
3. Attracting My Target
Audience
The target group for my magazine consists of an audience that includes
both males and females.
I tried to appeal to both genders by avoiding using gender specific colours
in my magazine, I used quite neutral colours such as white, grey, black and
red as I wanted a more delicate house style in contrast to the common white
red and black in a lot of the music magazines I researched. I also try to use
the uses and gratification theory's in order to try and create a personal
relationship between the artist and the reader. I have done this by using
direct mode of address and artists name.
4. Attracting My Target Audience: Front
Cover
I made the front cover image striking so that it
would stand out amongst other magazines and also
so it would attract both male and females. I have
done this by having the model look slightly
sexualised to attract males through Mulby’s Male
Gaze and she is very fashionable with her clothing
and make up which attracts women to the
magazine.
I used a pull quote to attract my target audience as
this creates hermeneutic questions and therefore
the reader is becoming enticed. I also used anchor
text to create a personal relationship between the
model and the reader (uses and gratification theory)
this is placed largely on the page and is very easy to
see so your eyes are drawn to it.
5. Attracting My Target Audience:
Contents Page
I used a different technique to attract my target
audience, by creating a section where there are
four different links to social media accounts
belonging to my magazine. This allows the reader
to engage with my magazine. I choose to do this
because my target audience is people aged
between 16-25 and most of the people in this age
bracket have a social media account. It also allows
them to engage between issues.
The section of features shows what articles the
reader should expect too see in the magazine.
This sort off list would appear in every issue.
By having this I means that the reader can
easily navigate around the page and magazine
therefore attracting teenagers and young
adults.
6. Attracting My Target Audience: Double
Page Spread
To attract the audience I used anchoring text
which entices the reader to read the article on
the double page spread and creates hermeneutic
questions which also makes the reader want to
read the article.
I put the artists name in the right hand corner in
bold capitalised text so that is eye catching and
therefore catches the readers attention.
I used a bold image to attract the audience, I purposely
used direct mode of address to create a relationship
with the reader and the admirable artist.
