2. ROCK, AMERICAN IDIOT BY GREEN
DAY
American Idiot, a punk rock song by Green Day is about the mass
media and how it has created paranoia and idiocy among the
American public. It is a song known world wild for it’s catchy tune and
being sung by the very popular band, Green Day. It’s known as the
band’s most famous song’s and been nominated for many awards
including a whole four Grammy awards. Watch it -

3. ANALYSING THE MUSIC VIDEO….
The music video is 2:54 minutes
long and is set in a large deserted
warehouse with a large green
American flag behind Green Day.
Around half way through the music
video a load of green liquid flows in
behind them as they continue to
sing. There is a mix of slow motion,
and sped up camera scenes that
make the video seem exciting and
“rock like”. Furthermore the range
of different camera shots and
camera angles make the one set
despite being quite limited seem
very interesting and exciting.
Around 1:50 where the green liquid
sprays out, there is a very
interesting camera shot where
there is a straight on, high angle
shot which quickly changes to a

4. HOW HAS GREEN DAY BEEN
CONSTRUCTED?
Green Day has a punk rock style about there dress and visual
approach. There clothing hair, make up makes them look very dark
and mysterious and definitely appeals to the subculture of being a
punk. Many followers of this band like there style because they are
not afraid to express what they are like which is definitely shown in
the video. The big American flag could show the whole nation being
united and how mass media may create paranoia but people can still
be individual to who they are which is shown slightly in this song.

This video is very
interesting in the
fact that it is
filmed in one
place but still
makes an
engaging music

6. POP, SUGAR BY MAROON 5
Sugar the pop song by Maroon 5. The music video was based on the
story of the 2005 comedy Wedding Crashers staring actors Owen
Wilson and Vince Vaughn. In the Music video the band Maroon 5 goes
round surprising people at their weddings singing this song about
love. Sugar received positive reviews from music critics and reached
number 2 on Billboards top 100.

7. ANALYSING THE MUSIC VIDEO….
The music video is 5:01 and is set in sunny L.A.
and the story line, or narrative, is basically the
band filming themselves at many people
weddings surprising them by singing this song
sugar which is about love. At the start of the
music video the lead singer of the band Adam
Levine explains to the viewers (us) what they
are doing which is trying to hit as many
weddings in one day. Then in the verses of the
song you have the band travelling to their next
wedding and setting up ready to perform the
song, which leads to the chorus and when they
are revelled to the people at the wedding which
leads to celebration and lots of different
camera angles showing the people at the
weddings expressions. Around 2:50, I like the
use of the changing the camera shot’s to
different locations as it creatively continues to
show the narrative and show off the main

8. HOW HAVE MARRON 5 BEEN
CONSTRUCTED?
Since 1994 Maroon 5 has been
constructed as a modern American
pop rock band. There clothing is
very modern day and
contemporary and have the style
of a pop band. They are
internationally known and have
sold more than 27 million albums
and 48 million singles worldwide.
They are very interesting in that
"Everything that's written and
performed and put together pretty
much comes from us. I just think
people would be surprised to
know that we’re a self-contained
unit. We’re a band that does their
own thing. There’s no puppet

9. IDEAS I COULD USE FROM THIS
VIDEO….
I could use the very good use of a narrative and story line in my music
video because it gives such a good concept to the music video. The use
of having a background story keeps the viewer interested and
entertained.

10. RNB, CRY ME A RIVER BY JUSTIN
TIMBERLAKE
“Cry Me A River” is a song about a broken hearted man who moves on
from his last girlfriend, who had cheated on him with another man.
The RnB music video is very dark and captures the essence of his
feelings through this heartbreak. The music video follows him trying
to get back at his ex as he wants her to cry over him and be upset
which she does not.

11. ANALYSING THE MUSIC VIDEO….
The Music video follows Justin Timberlake
as he pours his heart out over his ex
girlfriend who cheated on him. The music
video captures darkness and sadness of his
heartbreak. It starts at him in the rain and
as the video progresses it see’s him trying
to get back at his girlfriend by recording a
video of him kissing another woman and
putting it on her TV towards the end of the
video. The music video which is 4:50 long
experiences some nudity which is quite
often in RnB music because it is very adult
theme in this type of music and have very
serious topics which actually express
meaning and narratives. One of my
favourite camera shots is one of the first
shot’s which is when the lyrics start and
the window rolls down revealing Justin

12. HOW IS JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE
CONSTRUCTED?
Justin Timberlake is a well
known actor,
singer/songwriter who has
a very clean fresh cut
appearance in most of his
acting jobs but in his music
it is a lot more of a “bad
boy” appearance. His RnB
music shows a different side
to him which is very
expressive shown so much
in his work.

13. IDEAS I COULD USE FROM THIS
VIDEO….
Again like Maroon 5 song Sugar
I would definitely use the story
line and narrative which gives
something engaging to keeps
the audiences attention. Also if I
was thinking of doing an RnB
song I would definitely use the
dark colours and serious
meaningful narrative.

14. HIP-HOP, WATCH ME (WHIP/NAE
NAE) BY SILENTÓ
Hip Hop music is a genre that entails a lot of dancing and partying
because it is up beat fun music. Much like this popular song by
Silento, watch me has no particular narrative other than the fact it is
about a dance that everyone does. (In a way like the Macarena). It is
one of 2015’s favourite Hip Hop songs and very popular due to it’s
catch tune and well known dance, which is shown in a music video

15. ANALYSING THE MUSIC VIDEO….
The music video which is 3:22 is a fun, party
dance music video which is kind on like an
instructors manual of how to dance to this
song. At different intervals when Silento tells
them “To Do” different dance moves and
“Watch me” is kind of like a Simon says of
dance which is very unusual to normal hip hop
videos which usually consists of partying and
dancing but Silento took it this one step
further. The music video is set on a basketball
court where there is a large rave, dancing
theme. But it cut’s the screen up into different
part’s with sent in videos by the public doing
the different dance moves. This is very
creative and makes use of no narrative and
still makes the video interesting and

16. HOW IS SILENTÓ CONSTRUCTED?
Silentó is a very young and new
artist and at the age of 17, he
hasn’t really had the time to show
what he is like as an artist. But
from the music video you can tell
his style has been constructed as
“Cool” and has a swagger to him
which kind of defines him as a
Hip Hop/ RnB artist.

17. IDEAS I COULD USE FROM THIS
VIDEO….
If I was to do a song from the hip hop genre I would definitely use the
instructions on how to dance to the specific song and it is interesting
and follows the genre’s party, dancing theme.

18. INDIE, LITTLE TALKS BY OF
MONSTERS OF MEN
Little Talks by Monsters Of Men is not a really well known song
mainly because it’s placed into the indie genre which isn’t that
popular. There are the odd song’s in this genre that is quite popular
like Mr Brightside and Make you feel my love by Adele.

19. ANALYSING THE MUSIC VIDEO….
The music video starts with Of
Monsters Of Men looking at an object
that fell from the sky. They have a look
an a large rock reveals a woman that
joins them on there quest. The lady
keeps saving the men from multiple
monsters and then they are met by an
animal group in the same colours as
the female creature. She re-joins her

very different to the normal music
video’s as it is in cartoon form. It

CONSTRUCTED?
Of Monsters And Men is a
indie band formed in 2010.
There style is very
alternative to normal bands,
as they have four male
members and one female
member which is not
normal. For example you
usually have a boy band or a
girl band they are mixed
which is quite normal for
indie music. They are very
normal to every day people
which people can relate too
which makes there music

from this video as I won’t be
creating a cartoon made music
video but I do like the music video
and it was very entertaining.
