Question 3 - What have
you learnt from your
audience feedback ?
1
Throughout the production of my media products, I have
realised that audience feedback is vital in regards to
constructing products that will successfully target an intended
audience. The purpose of audience feedback is very important as
it can affect the overall outcome of your media product. As the
specific feedback is being provided from the overall consumers of
whom will be purchasing/viewing these products being
constructed, it is important audience feedback is taken into
consideration as this feedback could help improve a product
that may become very successfully within the music industry.
Throughout the construction of my media products, I aimed
directly towards my target audience as my aim was to cater their
expectations so that they would be attracted towards my
products.
The first piece of audience feedback I received, was in regards to what
my target audience found appealing when watching a music video. I
decided to create a questionnaire which asked various questions. After
my questionnaire was created, I asked my media teacher if it was
possible to hand out to her year 10 class. Successfully, her year 10
students were able to answer this questionnaire, and the answers were
posted on my blog. I found this piece of feedback very beneficial as it
was early on in the research and planning stage of my music video. I
was able to have an insight on what my target audience find
appealing when watching music videos, and what they may expect to
see in a music video to the song ‘Skyscraper’. As Skyscraper was the
first song choice I wanted to use for my music video, I had to change
my song choice due to Disney not providing me with permission to use
their song. I therefore received more feedback from my classmates as I
was not sure on what other song to use. I held a focus group and
recorded recommendations from each class mate on what song they
think would be best to use. It was posted on my blog the songs that
were recommended. This was of great help as I was able to use their
suggestions to my advtantage.
Throughout the production of my media products, I ensured I asked for
audience feedback throughout the process of creating either my music
video, digipak, or poster. I had constant feedback from both parents, and
peers which allowed me to feel positive throughout the construction of my
products. Before I started constructing my media products, I created a
mood board in regards to my target audience. I looked back at this to gain
a developed understanding of the hobbies my target audience may like
doing and also the colours they were attracted to. My mood board helped
me when choosing a colour theme to use. As I had an image of my target
audience being the typical girly, fan girls on youtube liking you tubers
such as Tanya Burr and Zoella, and also liking the colour pink, I knew
that when creating my poster it was important for me to include social
media icons and also the colour pink throughout.
Music video feedback
After I had created my first draft of my music video, I wanted to gain some audience
feedback as this would help me to initially add or adjust elements of my music
video for improvement. As I was already feeling quite confident about my
production, I did not think there would be much to adjust. Throughout my music
video, I tried to get footage of my artist from various perspectives and camera angles
so my target audience felt allured into watching my artist. I used a variety of
transitions and effects to ensure my target audience felt as though my music video
was appealing to them. After creating my music video, I held a focus group in
which I showed my music video to a class of year 10’s. Once again, I received a wide
range of feedback. The majority focused on providing positive feedback in regards to
the lip-syncing and the variety of settings I used to provide a different mis en scene
for various shots. There were more positive comments than negative which I was
pleased about, however some negative comments focused on the different colours
that were used to connote feelings of my artist. For example, I was questioned on the
use of black and white, and why I decided to only use on character throughout my
music video. Recieveing this feedback made me aware of elements of my music
video that my target audience liked, and areas that they weren't too fond on and
that I needed to improve. Throughout my blog, you can see how I have adjusted
certain aspects of my music video to suit my target audience. As there were problems
when uploading various drafts of my music video, only my final draft is available
to view.
Digipak and Poster feedback
Before I started to create my digipak and poster, I wanted to gain an
insight on what members of my target audience would most likely be
attracted to when looking at a digipak and poster. I decided to use an
online application called Survey Monkey which allowed me to gain an
insight on what my intended target would find appealing. Within my
survey I asked various questions that would allow me to gain an insight
on various elements that I wanted to apply within my media products. I
found the results beneficial as it allowed me to refer back to the results
when torn on what to apply to my product for example font type and
colour.
