What have you learned from your audience feedback?
Audience feedback and opinion was a crucial part of the process of
making my music video, digipak and website. As these products are
for the audience to consume it only makes sense that you make it to
somewhat fit they prefer and so this is why I included them as often
as possible during production.
Before I began the production of my music video, digipak and website I was
torn between which song I wanted to use. To help me with this decision I
created two different mood boards, for the two different songs I was trying to
pick between. These mood boards included images that represented the type
of video I would create for that song. I then handed out numerous copies and
asked the audience to pick which they preferred. This helped me in my
decision to use the song She’s Always A Woman.
Next I created a questionnaire asking basic questions to the audience of
what sort of things they would expect to see in a music video for this
song. From this questionnaire I learnt that a performance video with
narrative interlinked was what was going to appeal to my audience the
most. As well as this, the most popular colour tone they chose the video
to be was full colour and sepia and so I incorporated this into my video.
Other decisions such as the speed of cuts, if you should see the piano
being played in the video etc. were all made through the results of my
questionnaire.
Also in the questionnaire I asked the audience which of the following they
thought would be a best suited costume for an easy-listening genre music
video: suit and tie, jeans and a shirt, jeans and casual t-shirt. The results of
this question are directly represented in my video as the majority opted
for the jeans and shirt option which is exactly what costume I used in my
music video.
I also asked my audience for feedback on the different fonts for my
digipak and website.
