2. In my research Hip Hop and Rap are mainly male dominated
artists such as Jay-Z, Kanye, Eminem, with female artists mainly
associated with R&B e.g. Mary J Blige, Beyoncé and Rhianna.
As the main theme of the magazine is to capture true stories
about famous artist in this area of music I felt that if I included
the following in my magazine then this would ensure that male
and females would buy the magazine:
Photos of females who look confident, are independent,
and are positive role models
 Attractive, fashionable women, who do not look or dress
‘degrading’
 In other issues it would also have photos of male music
artists who are positive role models, and articles about
them that are inspiring

If I adopt this approach then I hope that the magazine would
appeal to both male and females.

3. The type of music that I would like to write about in
my magazine is often associated with ‘black music’.
In this issue of the magazine, the main cover star is a
white female, which is also reflected in the
throughout the contents and double page spread.
This breaks the stereotype, especially as the group
members are white, mixed race and black females,
who have come from a working class background
who has made it big in music. By making a mixed
race band the main story in my magazine I hope to
target all ethnic groups who enjoy ‘western culture’
styled music.

4. The cost of the magazine is only £1.99, which is shown
clearly in the bottom left hand corner of the front
cover, and is aimed at attracting people who likes to
buy magazines but doesn’t want to spend a lot of
money. The magazine comes out every 4 months –
Winter, Spring, Summer and Autumn. This should
attract people from all social classes. The journalism
uses very little slang – it only appears in double page
spread when the band members answers to the
questions as they used ‘simple’ everyday language this will also attract people from all social classes and
will give the reader a real sense of knowing the artists.

5. I deliberately chose the cover artist to be a
youthful teenager as this is my main target
group. The journalism is aimed at
attracting their interests, and the main
article is aimed at inspiring this age group –
talking positively about families,
relationships, and giving something back
to society.

6. Social followers of this genre of music for
my target audience, tend to come from a
specific type of culture. The skyline and
cover lines are used to attract the reader’s
attention by listing popular group names
associated with R&B, Hip Hop and Rap.

7. The photos of the band members in my
magazine are all wearing fashionable that
is not expensive. I decided to do this so
that the photos would appeal to people
who do not want to ‘dress up’ in designer
clothes ‘smart’ clothes and expensive
jewellery but still want to follow fashion.
