What is a Pronoun…?
A pronoun is a word that takes the place of a noun.

Today, we are going to look at:
• 3 Types of Pronouns:
Subject Pronouns, Object Pronouns, Possessive Pronouns
• Possessive Adjectives

Subject pronouns:

Subject pronouns are the actors/doers in the sentence.
They are:
I you he/she
It they we

Subject pronouns
I moved to Manitoba several years ago.
“I” is a subject pronoun.
It is at the beginning of a sentence. The noun it names is usually the subject of a
verb (doer of the action).

Object pronouns:

Receive the action in the sentence.
They are:
me you him/her
it us them

Object pronouns:
They gave me several books from the library.
“Me” is an object pronoun.
It receives the action of the verb in the sentence.

Possessive pronouns:

Independent possessive pronouns take the place of a noun
to avoid duplicating it in a sentence.
They appear often at the end of a sentence.
They are:
yours mine theirs
ours

Possessive pronouns:

Independent possessive pronouns take the place of a noun
to avoid duplicating it in a sentence.
That car is your car.
That car is yours.
“Yours” is a possessive pronoun.

Possessive adjectives:

Like possessive pronouns, these also tell us who or what
owns something.
But, they are placed before a noun to modify it.
They are:
my your his/her
their its our

Possessive adjectives:
Our car is parked over there.
“Our” is a possessive adjective.
These function as determiners in front of a noun to describe whom
something belongs to:
"I said that's my phone.".

Subject pronouns – examples:

Subject pronouns:
I moved to Manitoba 5 years ago.
She drives that car every day.
They have 2 dogs that bark every night.
