ISO 9000
Definitions
A part of quality management focused on
fulfilling quality requirements.
A part of quality management
focused on providing
confidence that quality
requirements will be fulfilled.
ISO 9001
Definitions
This is the most basic level of quality. It
started with activities whose purpose is to
control the quality of products or services
by finding problems and defects.
Quality Assurance developed
from the realisation that quality
could be improved by looking
'further up the line'. It is aimed
at preventing
nonconformities/defects.
American
Society of
Quality (ASQ)
Quality control is: the operational
techniques and activities used to fulfill
requirements for quality
Quality assurance is: all the
planned and systematic
activities implemented within
the quality system that can be
demonstrated to provide
confidence that a product or
service will fulfill requirements
for quality.
Quality Control Quality Assurance
Definition
QC is a set of activities for ensuring quality
in products. The activities focus on
identifying defects in the actual products
produced.
QA is a set of activities for ensuring quality
in the processes by which products are
developed.
Focus on
QC aims to identify (and correct) defects in
the finished product. Quality control,
therefore, is a reactive process.
QA aims to prevent defects with a focus on
the process used to make the product. It is a
proactive quality process.
Goal
The goal of QC is to identify defects after a
product is developed and before it's
released.
The goal of QA is to improve development
and test processes so that defects do not
arise when the product is being developed.
Quality Control Quality Assurance
How
Finding & eliminating sources of quality
problems through tools & equipment so that
customer's requirements are continually
met.
Establish a good quality management
system and the assessment of its adequacy.
Periodic conformance audits of the
operations of the system.
What
The activities or techniques used to achieve
and maintain the product quality, process
and service.
Prevention of quality problems through
planned and systematic activities including
documentation.
Responsibility
Quality control is usually the responsibility
of a specific team that tests the product for
defects.
Everyone on the team involved in
developing the product is responsible for
quality assurance.
Quality Control (QC) Quality Assurance (QA)
As a tool QC is a corrective tool QA is a managerial tool
Orientation QC is product oriented QA is process oriented
ļ‚§ QC Detect a recurrent problem with the quality of the
products.
ļ‚§ QC provide feedback to QA person that there is a
problem in the process or system that is causing
product quality problems.
ļ‚§ QA determines the root cause of the problem and then
brings changes to the process to ensure that there are no
quality issues in future.
