Who are the
audience for your
media product?
The audience which would be most associated with my magazine would be mainly seen as
teenagers/young adults but would mainly cover the ages of 16-23 as I think this age group
would be the most likely to go to concerts and festivals of the Rock genre such as SlamDunk
festival which I have mentioned within my magazine.
Primarily, my magazine would be targeted at females due to the fact that I have used female
artists more than I have used male artists as female artists would appear to be more relatable to
this target audience. However, this does not mean that males who like Rock would not be
interested in my magazine as they would also be targeted in my magazine through the use of
thick, bold-looking fonts as opposed to skinny fonts which is more conventional for a magazine
with a target audience of just girls to have.
The social-class which I would primarily be targeting would be those of the lower-middle class
section of the structure – the reason for doing this is because of the fact that the magazine
would be seen as relatively cheap compared to the main competitors within the genre of
Kerrang! and Rocksound and therefore would be seen as the cheaper alternative to these
magazines. Also, I think that people from this social class would be the most likely to enjoy live
music and to go to concerts of this genre and because of this, I feel as if this would be the best
choice for the main social class which I am trying to target.
Gender: Female
Age: 17
Music: Her favourite genre of music is rock and she frequently finds
herself listening to bands which come under several sub-genres such
as Emo but she also listens to a lot of female fronted bands which I
have mentioned in my magazine such as the likes of Paramore and
Evanescence.
Hobbies: Her hobbies would include things which I am using in my
magazine in order to attract attention – this would be seen in the likes
of going to places such as Festivals/Concerts.
Her favourite colours would be those of white and red – these two
colours have been used in order to attract those who are part of the
audience which I am trying to target – the audience which I am trying
to target would therefore be teenagers/young adults who distance
themselves from mainstream music such as R&B/Pop.
She would come under the ‘Lower Middle Class’ section of the
population and therefore, she would be someone who my magazine
would primarily be aimed at as those of a higher class would
stereotypically listen to other types of music such as Opera/Classical.
Education: Full time
Work: Unemployed – this would mean that her parents are her source
of money.
Gender: Male
Age: 19
Music: His favourite genre of music would be Pop-Punk – this would be catered
for within my magazine as my magazine is based on the Rock genre and this is a
sub-genre of this. The cover line ‘Bye Bye Blink’ would particularly interest him
as he would consider blink-182 to be one of his favourite bands and therefore, he
would be wanting to purchase the magazine in order to find out what this article
is about if he didn’t know already.
Hobbies: His hobbies would be skateboarding and playing guitar. The fact that he
is a skateboarder would mean that he would come under the ‘Skater’ subculture
and therefore, this magazine would not be directly targeted at him however it
would still interest him due to his wide interest within the rock genre and this
would be shown by the fact that he plays guitar for a Rock band.
His favourite colours are grey and black – these two colours are heavily used
within my magazine as part of my main colour scheme because of the fact that
they are not too stand out and this would subvert expectations – something which
a ‘rebellious male’ such as himself would find interesting.
He would come under the ‘Upper Middle Class’ section of the population and
therefore, he would be seen as someone who the magazine is not directly targeted
at but this would show that the magazine is able to reach a wider audience than
originally planned.
Education: Full time
Work: Part time – meaning he has enough money to spend on tickets for concerts.
