Students who spend more than 2 hours per night on homework in high-achieving communities experience more stress, physical health problems, and feel disconnected from their social lives. A study of over 4,000 students found that those who did excessive amounts of homework reported higher levels of stress, headaches, exhaustion, sleep deprivation, and stomach problems. They also felt obligated to prioritize homework over other activities. The researchers concluded that too much homework can be counterproductive and that 1.5-2.5 hours per night is optimal.
