Who would be the audience for your media product?
I have targeted my music magazine at female teenagers. This is because mainly females (68%) answered my questionnaire and 26% are 14 to 18 years old. The pop genre had the highest of 28%. These answers from my questionnaire have helped me on many decisions. I think making my magazine the ‘pop’ genre made it easy to target the teenage female population. My music magazine is targeted at: Females – I used a girly colour pink to contrast with the red, so it looks girly but still targets a wide range of girls. I used a female artist in the dominant image to represent Teenagers – I used a young fresh new pop artist on the front cover and styled her as a rock chick teenager. I used young artists and bands throughout my magazine to give the audience their own age to relate to. Middle class – although my magazine is aimed at teenagers I took a chance at aiming my magazine at the middle class society also. I chose this because I wanted the teenagers to have an outgoing yet sensible look on the music world. I used the subtle colours and non busy layout in the magazine to bring a little sophistication to it, hopefully to make the audience feel a little better about themselves. The price I put my magazine at is £1.99 and is well in the budget of a middle class teenager, I put my price lower than what the audience said through my questionnaire because I wanted the magazine to be a popular choice and cheap enough for a teenager to afford. White British – By using the white British ethnicity pop stars in my magazine I have made my magazine be aimed at those types of people. I think my target audience would be able to relate to them in that way and be more comfortable around them. Activities such as dancing, socialising, listening to the recent chart music, I think my target audience will get up to in their spare time and my music magazine would happily fit in with their activities.
