The document discusses target audiences for a new film. The primary audience is aimed at adults aged 25 and over since the film is about working life and they would most relate to it. A survey was conducted with different age groups and found that those aged 18+ preferred drama and thriller genres the most. Therefore, the secondary audience is teenagers aged 15-17 since they also liked drama films and the film has a family drama theme. More details are given about the primary demographic audience, which is described as a 26 year old father living in London with a 4 month old child who spends $2,000 online annually. The recommended BBFC age certificate for the film is 12 due to weak violent language, abuse scenes, and some nudity

1. Who would be the audience for
your media product?
2. Primary audience
Our primary audience for the film opening will be
aimed at adults, preferably aged 25 and over. The
reason behind this is because as the film is based
around the working life, they are more likely to
understand and relate to the film.
The way we gathered this information is by doing a
survey on Fluid surveys. Here is mine I did:
Film audience research
3. Results from survey
The survey had 3 age groups and either male or female. The ages ranged from 10 – 13, 14 –
17 and 18 +. There were 5 questions:
1. What is your favourite genre film?
2. Are there any genres you dislike?
3. If you don’t like a specific genre, would this prevent you from watching the film?
4. Do you like family genres?
5. What was the last genre film you watched?
The genders that did the survey was a well balanced however the age range varied.
Average results: 10 - 13 14 – 17 18+
1. Action 1. Thriller/Drama 1. Drama
2. Romance 2. Sci – Fi 2. Thriller
3. Wouldn’t watch
romance films
3. Depends on the
actors in the film.
3. Yes
4. No 4. Yes 4. Yes
5. Action 5. Drama 5. Drama
4. Secondary audience
From this feedback we were able to find our
secondary audience. Our secondary audience will be
teenagers aged between 15 – 17 year olds. The reason
behind this is from the feedback you can see that
they like drama films and as ours is a family drama it
would suit them.
5. Gratifications and psychographic of primary
audience
Demographic overview:
Dad
26 years of age
Income – 46K per year
Psychographic overview:
•Male
•Age of child is 4 months
•Spends 2,000 a year online
•Lives in London
•Lives within 2km of
nearest facilities
6. BBFC age certificate
The age certificate for our film is going to be a 12. This
means that video release is suitable for 12 years and
over. After looking at the BBFC website the reason
behind this choice is because it will include the
following:
Weak violent language
Scenes of abuse
Elements of nudity.
