We created our own production company called Press Play
Productions, which is an independent production company. For our
distribution company we decided to use Paramount pictures as they
have distributed many thriller movies such as Shutter Island etc.
Paramount Pictures are a mainstream company and ours is
independent. This something that happens quite a bit within thriller
and horror movies.

3. When creating our film opening our group decided to create our own
production company and use a known distribution company (Paramount
pictures). There are several successful thriller movies that were distributed by a
independent company; the movie Se7en, which was distributed by New Line
Cinema. New Line Cinema is similar to our production company ‘Press Play
Productions’, as they are both independent companies.

One film that is slightly similar to ours is The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, which is a film
that we would distribute with our created production company. As for the actual movie
it is distributed by a independent company (New Line Cinema). If our production
company, Press Play Production, was a real company we would distribute The Texas
Chainsaw Massacre as initially this film was distributed by the independent company,
New Line Cinema.

Our production company, Press Play Productions, will enable us to have a restricted local
release as Independent movies are often screened at national, local, or international film
festivals before distribution (theatrical or retail release). This would allow us to release our
film at an art house cinema such as; Screen on the Green, as the day a new film is entered
into a theatre distribution system for public viewing, many other formats of the movie, such
as DVDs, Blu-ray discs and video-on-demand, are scheduled for distribution several weeks
or months after the theatrical release of a film. Therefore, giving our film more recognition
and popularity.

6. Digital content consists of things such as, video games, audio, videos etc.
Using digital content to reach a specific target audience through website like
Netflix, and Vimeo can be seen as a successful way of achieving this. This is
because teenagers now tend to use these two websites, as they tend to always
be on their phones. Therefore, having our movie on anyone of these two
websites would be a great way to reach a target audience.

7. Depending on whether your film is mainstream or independent the release
date is different between the two. When marketing an independent film it is
generally characterized by limited release, which is often used to gauge the
appeal of films such as; independent films and documentaries. One major
difference between DVD release between mainstream and independent is that
mainstream films are first shown in cinemas for a certain amount of time,
then they are released on DVDs. However, independent films are the opposite
as they don’t show on cinemas and are released on DVDs first. Our film is
mainstream with an independent production company so therefore are film
would be released in the cinemas first then put out onto DVDs in stores.
