‘Magazine publishers are responsible for making their publications an
editorial and commercial success. They define the editorial position
and manage business operations so that the magazine provides
readers with high quality content while maximizing revenue and profit.’
In terms of distribution I have decided to choose the company SpinMedia formally
known as Buzzmedia to distribute my magazine ‘Reignited’. The reason this
company would work the most effectively for my magazine is due to the fact they
are the owner of Vibe magazine which dominantly features R&B and hip-hop
artists. Vibe magazine targets a predominantly young audience and distributes its
products online only due to the larger online presence. This is well suited for my
magazine due to my age range being between 16-23. I have decided in terms of
income to distribute my magazine online only as it will generate more monthly
sales and save money on printing. SpinMedia is a highly successful publishing
company as they have invested in a variety of companies meaning they have
internal links. Therefore this would be highly beneficial for my magazine because it
would attract a higher audience.
To fund the cost of the magazine my company works in synergy with the cover
artist. This is a beneficial way to not only boost sales but to also to spread the
companies name in a good light. Sponsorship is another way to generate income
due to companies paying to advertise their brand name.
Magazine subscriptions will be the main source of income because due to my
audience being charged a monthly fee of £2.99. This is an affordable price based on
my audience as they may not have a large sum of money to spend on magazines.
Also the outcome of the survey I carried out 70% of my audience selected £2-4
therefore I decided to sell the magazine between the two.

Bauer Media is the publisher of Kerrang which is a British magazine company that sells the world’s biggest selling
weekly rock magazines. Despite the company being successful they publish magazines of the wrong genre and are
created more frequently than I would like my magazine to be. Kerrang magazines are also really busy looking on the
front cover where as I like a structured layout making the information clearer to read.
Egmont publishers of We love pop, which is aimed at female teenage girls between the age of 13-16 years old who
enjoy pop music. Their issues include popular chart bands like little mix which does not apply to my magazine.
Despite the magazine being monthly which is the same as my magazine it follows a different genre and audience.
Therefore my magazine would not be successfully distributed with this company.
