10. Apostrophe ‘
Apostrophe is used to show the belonging of a
thing to the person.
Example:
• This is Ali’s pen.
• I am going to Osama's house.
11. Colon :
It is used in sentence to introduce that
something follows an example or list.
Example:
• There are two options at this time: run away
or fight.
• During the examination we were asked to
bring: scale, pencil and rubber.
12. Semi colon ;
It is used to join two independent clauses.
Example:
• Dad is going bald; his hair is getting thinner
and thinner.
• You should stop eating so much food; you will
have to go on a diet.
13. BRACKETS ( )
It is pair of marks used to enclose words or
figures and separate them from the
surrounding context.
Examples:
• George Washington (the first president of the
United States) gave his farewell address in
1796.
14. It is used for joining two or more words. These
words can be nouns, verbs and adjectives.
Example:
• They had a long-term relationship.
• This is hot-water bottle.
• He is two-year-old.
15. It used after an interjection or exclamation to
indicate strong feelings or high volume
(shouting).
Example:
• "No!" he yelled. "Do it now!”
• "Oh my God! What a fantastic birthday gift!"
16. A comma mark is a slight break between
different parts of a sentence.
Example:
• Did you see that?, he asked.
• Steve replied, no problem.
• Because my coffee was too cold, I heated it in
microwave.
17. It is used at the end of the question (when
completed).
Example:
• Where are you going?
• What are you doing here?
• Is there a party tonight?
18. Inverted commas “ ”
These are used to show speech, title and
quotations.
Example:
• He said, “I am not feeling well.”
• I have read “Gulliver’s Travel”.
• “it is not in our stars to hold our destiny but in
ourselves”- William Shakespeare.
