Normally the college announces the cut off based on the number of applications they receive. Christ
College alone receives around 40000 applications on day 1.
The rough cut off percentage is shown below (source Indian express)
The tension rises as soon as the SSLC results are announced. Colleges will start issuing application forms
One day before the announcement of the first list, many colleges will individually call students who have
scored above the cut off and provide them direct admission. Some colleges will also provide direct
admission when you go to submit the forms. If you don’t opt for direct admission, then you fall under
the government quota and your name may appear in the selection list. On the other hand if you select
the college where you want to join, they will immediately ask you to pay the fees and also submit the
original transfer certificate from your current school. This makes it impossible for you to look out for
better colleges.
Preparation guide
Before the results are announced
1. Visit the colleges around your locality. It is important that you like the college you want to study.
2. Figure out the distance from your residence. How long does it take to travel there by bus? Do
they have the course of your choice?
3. Select at least 2 or 3 colleges where you are sure to get admission based the score you expect to
get. You can use your preparatory score as a reference.
4. You should have a plan B in place because once the first list is announced you will have limited
choice
5. Have at least 10 passport size photographs and 10 stamp size photographs ready
On the day SSLC results is announced
1. Collect application forms from the colleges you have shortlisted. Carry adequate change as the
application form cost Rs 25 per branch. For example if you want to apply for PCMB and PCME,
then you need to submit 2 forms.
2. Fill in the forms you can submit them if the ICSE or CBSE results are announced. If the results are
not announced and the last date has approached, fill in Results awaited and submit the forms.
3. Colleges will not accept forms after the last date.
On the day ICSE/CBSE results is announced
1. Collect your transfer certificate and get your marks card attested from your respective school.
2. Fill in the marks in the application form and rush to the colleges. Expect huge crowd. You can
also get help from your parents and friends to submit forms in multiple colleges.
3. If your percentage is well above the cut off some colleges like Vijaya Junior college, Mahavir Jain
college, St Josephs college, National college will give you an option for Spot admission.
4. If you have got a high score but don’t feel confident of making into your dream college, then opt
for the spot admission and get over with the anxiety.
5. Sometimes you may get PCMB instead of PCMC or PCME because your percentage is a little
short of the cut off percentage. If you are sitting on the wall be brave and wait for the second
list.
6. Be prepared to take bold decisions along with your parents. Be assured that the anxiety levels
during those days will be very high.
7. Once the admission process is over and the fees are paid, you can sit back and enjoy the rest of
your holidays.
Wish you all the very best study well and remain humble.
