The Palette Fund, True Colors Fund, and the Williams Institute joined forces in conducting a web
based survey from October 2011 through March 2012 designed to assess the experiences of
homeless youth organizations in providing services to LGBT youth. The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual,
and Transgender (LGBT) Homeless Youth Provider Survey also assessed the prevalence of LGBT
youth within the homeless populations being served by these organizations. According to their
findings, as many as 40 percent of homeless youth identify as LGBT. The most common reason
found to have caused homelessness amongst LGBT youth was family rejection after coming out.
The next most common reason for LGBT youth homelessness was being forced out of their homes

collectively, others individually. They ll be better made to the extent we give the coming generation
an understanding of what brought them to their metamorphic moment. Franz Kafka, The

simple man and lived an ordinary life. He devoted his life to his work and providing for his family.
He became burden with supporting his family, dissatisfied with his job and alienated from his

The lavender scare, as coined and explained by David Johnson, refers to the period of time during
the 1950 s when a massive witch hunt that targeted homosexual government employees was
thriving in America s social system. Johnson calls it the lavender scare in order to draw parallels
with Joseph McCarthy s Red Scare, which happened at the same time, and to echo the common
association during the 1950s with gay men and what was commonly considered an effeminate color
(Johnson 2004). Friedman also writes about the lavender scare, citing Joseph McCarthy as the main
proponent of this political and social movement. During the scare, Friedman argues, McCarthy set
the homophobic precedent that millions of Americans would adhere to in the following decades
(Friedman 2005). During the lavender scare, Gregory Lewis and Louise Robbins detail how the
attitudes of homophobia created harmful legislation that led to the mass firings of thousands of
