2. Importance Of Puritans
Strict Puritan beliefs have been around since the late 16th century. Puritans believe in predestination,
which is the belief that God already has a plan for the people living on earth. Puritans believe in
intolerance towards others which includes religious beliefs that differ from their own. Unification of
church and state is a significant part of Puritan belief because nothing is more important to a Puritan
than God and getting into heaven. Puritans valued education because people need to know how to read
in order to read the bible. Even though the reasoning of importance may be different from a Puritan s
perspective their beliefs still exist today. Puritan beliefs still exist today through intolerance towards
others through the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Religious wars are still present today, which proves that worldwide people have a difficult time
accepting new religious beliefs. ISIS members are Muslim extremists who do not accept other people
s religious viewpoints, similar to the Puritans, muslim extremists believe there is only one right way to
worship God and that is the Muslim way. Members of ISIS are starting a holy war because they are
trying to carry out deeds in the name of God because they believe that is what God wants. Intolerance
towards others is exhibited in today s society through the failed attempt of the First Amendment, and
through the occurrence of a holy war. Unification of state and church has decreased significantly over
the last couple centuries but is still around in today s society through laws, failed attempts at trying to
keep the church out of school, and through US currency. As much as people do not want to admit that
laws come from the Bible, no one knows who decided that killing people is wrong. The Ten
Commandments are ten standards that Christians believe God set for people on earth, and in order to
proceed to heaven after death, people must follow all ten of the commandments. Each species follow
their own customs, for example, female praying mantises eat male praying mantises which is normal
for praying mantises.

3. High School Government And Politics Class
I remember a mixture of enthusiasm and dread prior to a visit from a Pennsylvania state representative
to my high school government and politics class. We were discussing local educational funding and I
had many questions for him about the topic. But more than anything I did not want to embarrass
myself. I went to bed early the previous night, and before class I guzzled two cans of Monster energy
drink. There was a safety pin in my pocket just in case. The first few minutes of class I felt euphoric
and was enthralled with the discussion on the local political landscape. However, my energy quickly
began to drain. I tried to focus on my notes but after a half hour I was barely able to grip my pencil
and saw that much of what I had written was incoherent scribble. In desperation, I took the safety pin
out of my pocket and frantically began stabbing the palm of my hand. My efforts were for naught,
because at some point I completely fell asleep only to wake up five minutes before the lecture was
over. This was a common occurrence throughout my high school career but I was not correctly
diagnosed with narcolepsy until the spring of my senior year. As a result, much of my college
experience was spent adjusting to life with this diagnosis.
Under the care of Dr. Cantor at the Penn Sleep Center, I felt confident that I could finally be a normal
person. But I soon found that a medical diagnosis and treatment was not a literal cure all . Leaving the

From some of the most powerful and inspiring women artists, it is natural to mention this woman, as
she was the first Renaissance woman artist to achieve fame in the 16th century. (Kuiper) Sofonisba
Anguissola is someone that I think is inspiring because of her accomplishment of becoming famed for
art in the Renaissance era but as managed to sell her paintings in a clever way. She achieved fame and
set an example throughout her life for up and coming future artists through the centuries. Sofonisba
Anguissola was born in the 1532 in Cremona, Italy and lived for 93 years, until she died in November
of 1625. She was lucky to be born into a wealthy family, where she was the oldest of the six siblings

5. My Life After A Volunteer At The Emergency Department
I was never fully able to wrap my mind around how one discovers their vocation in life. It was not
until last summer that I was able to uncover my passion. My novel discovery would take place during,
one of the most scorching months of August I ever recall experiencing. It would be during this
amplifying heat that I would conclude to go to Mercy Hospital and become a volunteer at the
Emergency Department. This day would not only come to symbolize an inflection point in my life due
to the fact that I had recently emigrated from Spain, but a realization of my calling in life.
As if it was yesterday, I remember I had to wake up punctually that day. My father, a draconian man in
his fifties, would have to drop off my mother first at her office, and afterward, come back home to
pick me up. Weak sunbeams shone through the blinds of my dusty window, taking with them a
sweltering tangibility that would congest my silent room. I suddenly got up, breathing heavy as if the
flaming spears of the sun had pierced my lungs.
Soon after I dashed to take an encouraging shower. Promptly, I put on a red polished polo with
hospital miniature logo. I added blue cargo pants, which I thought would fit better for the unknown
tasks waiting for me at the hospital. Since the first moment I exited the bed, my mind had generated
persistent feelings of inquietude. With the smell of brand new clothes still hovering in the air, I
believed myself to possess a health professional when my juvenile figure

Exploring Syncretism in Bless Me Ultima and The House on Mango Street
Syncretism is the fine line between Christianity and Native American Religions because it is the
ambivalent, simultaneous attraction of choice and identification to the influences of two or more
religious belief systems. Syncretism is most common among minority groups such as Hispanics. The
definition applied to their unique position of culture is brought about by the Native American and
Spanish ancestry. Ambivalence is shown even by the word Hispanic, which is an umbrella term. The
novels, Rudolfo Anaya s Bless Me Ultima(1972) and Sandra Cisneros The House on Mango

She represents the Native American minority culture and Christianity as a curandera. She is a Native
American spiritual healer who is derived from Rudolfo Anaya s own experience, of a woman who was
said to have powers to cure sickness (Hispanic Biography 42). The syncretism of Ultima s Christ like
abilities are given in two illustrations.
Ultima s Christ like nature is displayed through her abilities, or powers as a curandera to perform
miracles. Ultima s powers are shown in the text as being good; although, it is confusing to say whether
her powers are coming from Christianity, or witchcraft? To illustrate the issue of this comparison to
Christ, Antonio s mother recalls Ultima s powers saying, I have seen her work miracles. She learned
from the flying man from Las Pasturas (Anaya 85). The incongruity of this statement to that of
Christianity is clear cut. According to the Dictionary of Hispanic Biography, Anaya acquired the myth
and superstitions from his family who lived in Pastura about a women like Ultima, who could heal
(42). From Anaya s experience, syncretism of miracles and elements of superstition in folk
Catholicism is apparently true. However, the only one to perform miracles in Christianity is Christ.
To further illustrate the comparison of Ultima to Christ is the aura of power Ultima s character seems
to possess, and to which she gains respect as a healer. The instance in the text where

Dancing with the earth or dancing upside the earth
I m going to compare two dances from western and non western tradition. I picked Ballet and Native
American Dance. Which in essence vary from the historical roots to their own actual manifestation.
While Ballet is rooted in the entertainment of aristocratic sector of French society; Native American
Dance is the spiritual manifestation of the indigenous population regarding their social and physical
ecology. The socioeconomic relationship between the dances differ so much that it gives a good
outlook of what dance could be. Dance is one of the cultural manifestations of a given set of people, in
this case, a socioeconomic group. While the aristocrat used Ballet as a way to show political an
economical power, that is, depending on how elaborate are the performance and the costume people
use. While the Native American Dance on the other hand focus more on representing moves and
practices that are related to ancestral traditions which are related to seeds, spiritual medicine and

Ideas concerning the origin and fate of the world date from the earliest known writings. However, for
all that time, there was no attempt to link such theories to the existence of a Solar System , simply
because no one knew or believed that the Solar System, in the sense we now understand it, existed.
The first step towards a theory of Solar System formation was the general acceptance of
heliocentrism, the model which placed the Sun at the center of the system and the Earth in orbit
around it. This conception had been gestating for thousands of years but was only widely accepted by
the end of the 17th century. The first recorded use of the term Solar System dates from 1704.
The formation and evolution of the Solar System began 4.6 billion years ago with the gravitational
collapse of a small part of a giant molecular cloud. Most of the collapsing mass collected in the center,
forming the Sun, while the rest flattened into a protoplanetary disk out of which the planets, moons,
asteroids, and other small Solar System bodies formed.
This model, known as the nebular hypothesis, was first developed in the 18th century by Emanuel
Swedenborg, Immanuel Kant, and Pierre Simon Laplace. Its next development has interwoven a
variety of scientific disciplines including astronomy, physics, geology, and planetary science. Since

16. Thomas Paine And America A Prophecy
Thomas Paine and America a Prophecy William Blake, poet of the Romantic Era, wrote in 1793 the
prophetic story America a Prophecy. The story begins with Orc breaking the chains that held him
down and sexually assaulting a young woman that has been taking care of him. The woman is
revealed to represent America and that she has been waiting for Orc to help her. Soon Orc and other
colonies under British rule attack the Prince of Albion and King George III. Alongside Orc are
historical figures such as; George Washington, Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Paine who fight for the
liberty of their country. The story ends with Orc liberating America from tyrannical rule and
influencing other countries to rebel.
The mention of Thomas Paine s in the prophetic story is not coincidental, as he and Blake were
involved with one another in real life. I believe that by having Thomas Paine appear in the prophecy
shows the importance of Paine s work to the American Revolution and Blake s own political views
and writing. I will analyze the text of America a Prophecy to have a better understanding of the
prophetic book and then give historical context to Thomas Paine s work and beliefs. By doing this I
will finally analyze the two writers and see where Blake s America a Prophecy, and Paine s own work,

victory for the Union, but a point that changed the dynamics behind soldiers fighting. There are
multitudes of primary sources along with many secondary sources on the Battle of Shiloh. Both types
of sources have their advantages and disadvantages. Primary and secondary sources each offer their
own distinctive perspectives on the Battle of Shiloh.

The information that Bragg recorded is much different from many of the other primary sources. He
received information that was more accurate and realized that the Confederates did not have a victory
at Shiloh. Bragg wrote that Beauregard fell back to Corinth. He goes on to state, Reinforcements had
been rec d by the enemy and that he [Beauregard] had not been able to secure all the artillery
ammunition which they lost in the battle. This shows how the Confederacy has failed to complete their
objective of driving back the Union army before it was reinforced. It also mentions how they could
not secure the Union s artillery and ammunition because they were driven back to Corinth on the
second day. The information that Thomas Bragg received is accurate from a factual standpoint. One of
the possible reasons the information he received was good was because of his position in the
Confederate government. Information was most likely received directly from officers and not clouded
by rumors or speculations and views of soldiers. Braggs perspective and understanding of the Battle of
Shiloh is much more broad as well.
The Battle of Shiloh not only was a decisive battle in the early civil war, but it also changed how
soldiers regarded bravery and honor on the battlefield. Cyrus F. Boyd describes his late arrival to
reinforce Grant at the battle of

22. Federalist Paper No. 51, by James Madison
In framing a government which is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this:
you must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place oblige it to control
itself, are words written by James Madison in The Federalist Papers No. 51. The Federalist Paper No.
51 is one of several documents that compose the Federalist Papers, a series of essays written by James
Madison, John Jay, and Alexander Hamilton promoting the ratification of the Constitution. In this
particular paper, several principles are used as arguments for ratification. Specifically, a main
argument discussed is the means this government would have to self regulate itself. Following the

The bill itself seems harmless, but attorneys argued that the bill would make it difficult to challenge
the validity of foreclosure records when reports of improperly foreclosed homes were increasing. To
ensure that the unintended effects of the bill wouldn t harm consumers, President Obama vetoed it and
sent it back to Congress. This is where the system of checks and balances is used. When the president
disagrees with a legislation passed by Congress, he has the right to veto the bill as the executive
branches check and balance against the power of the legislative branch. President Obama s actions
showed how the executive branch can check the legislative branch by vetoing bills that could
potentially harm the public welfare of the nation.
Of course, Congress could have overturned President Obama s veto with a 2/3 vote in both houses.
While the executive branch can veto legislations passed by the legislative branch, the legislative
branch can also check the executive branch by overriding the presidential veto. Ambition must be
made to counteract ambition. The system of checks and balances is one branch counteracting the
influences of another, creating a stalemate as exemplified above. None of the three branches can exert
any source of power over the others without being counterbalanced by the powers of another branch.
For example, President Obama nominated Elena Kagan for the Supreme Court

23. Drunk Driving Laws Essay
Enforcing Drunk Driving Laws
In the United States, driving under the influence of alcohol is a major problem as it accounts for a high
number of road fatalities. It is a criminal offense for a person to drive under the influence of alcohol in
almost all countries in the world. Nations impose penalties for drunk driving; however, they vary
widely from states to states. Nevertheless, many countries seem to come to an agreement that drunk
driving claims many lives in a year, which is intolerable. For instance, in 2008 alone, in the US, more
than 11000 lives perished in the road carnage due to drivers driving under the influence of alcohol
(Grant 16). Therefore, the government should employ or enforce stricter laws towards driving under
the influence, to reduce road fatalities.
Most of the drivers are well conversant with the laws and consequences against driving under the
influence of alcohol. However, ignorance and negligence have been a thing in their DNA, as the laws
on driving under the influence are lenient and loose. Nevertheless, the victims families and friends
lives get ruined due to the sudden death of their beloved one who could be their bread winners, and
they cannot reclaim their lives back. Apparently, the offenders in prisons reclaim their lives back after
a few days, or they get out with fines or cash bail, which leaves the casualties with constant pains and
struggles. Also, the deceased families are left financially disadvantaged due to high medical bills

25. Commercial Freezer Research Paper
If your commercial freezer isn t freezing and you need to get it working right away, here are five
things you can check on while waiting for your technician to arrive. Having a commercial freezer
down can cost your business a lot of money, which is why you should try to troubleshoot what is
wrong even before the technician arrives. #1 Defrost Timer If you turned your thermostat down to a
colder temperature, and you noticed that your freezer failed to get any colder, the defrost timer might
be to blame. You can manually check the accuracy of your defrost timer. To do this, you need to take a
screwdriver and insert it into the advancement pinion. Then, turn the screwdriver clockwise. You don t
need to make a full turn; a quart or half turn ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To see if the cold control has shorted out, take the two wires that are located at the cold control, and
jump them together. If that gets your compressor going, then your compressor is working just find.
You just need to have your technician replace the cold control on your commercial freezer. #3
Compressor In order for your freezer to stay cold, the compressor has to work properly. Your
compressor should make the same, steady sound as it works. It should almost just feel like background
noise. If your compressor is instead making humming or clicking noises, a part inside of it needs to be
replaced. If you can t hear your compressor running at all, then there is defiantly a problem with it. Let
your technician know how your compressor sounds when you call them; this will help them know
what to do when they get to your business. #4 Evaporator Coils The evaporator coils are located in the
rear of your freezer. Check them and see if they are frozen over. If they are frozen over, the air in your
freezer will not be able to pass over them and your freezer will not be able to stay cold. If they are
frozen, you may need to remove the food from your freezer and manually defrost it. Your technician
may be able to defrost them more quickly for

influenced by their families, schools, and communities. As learners grow and mature, they increase
their ability to influence, contribute to, and improve their various communities. (Miller, 2013, p. 4).
Experiencing the everyday college life for a few weeks now, I have noticed two outstanding things
about the university that I attend: the friendliness and the Sooner Pride. These two positive things have
profoundly affected the way I view the University of Oklahoma. All optimism aside, there are some
challenges that every student faces while entering a life of independence. The most noteworthy
challenge I face is with the friends I make. All in all, the effect the University of Oklahoma is having

27. Summary Of A Small Place By Jamaica Kincaid
Antigua is a possibly one of the most beautiful places to visit in the world, let alone the Caribbean. In
A Small Place by Jamaica Kincaid, she describes Antigua as a place of prioritizing the foreigners and
the white people. Regrettably, the country has been designed to become a tourist attraction over the
years, causing the author s sense of Antigua to dissipate over time (pp.23). Kincaid s perception of
Antigua can be summed up by the unrepaired library, the past social and cultural interaction of the
Antiguans (pp. 42 43). To the tourist, the ruin library is possibly just another damage structure;
however, to the locals and Kincaid, it has meaning, a place, a locale, and more importantly, a sense of
place. In the story, it references ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

that continues to build more hotels and increase the cruise industry, it is understandable that the

in 2008 where the economic recession occurred. The government of Antigua possibly solely focused

In addition, most social service agencies are categorized as a 501(c)(3), which suggests that a
particular nonprofit organization has been approved by the Internal Revenue Service (commonly
known as the IRS) as a tax exempt, charitable organization. Charitable is broadly defined as being

29. Rational Systems of Organizations
Rational Systems of Organizations In modern society, the things that we encounter and demand in our
everyday lives, such as technology, the internet, trade, stocks, and manufactured products, all
contribute to the need for formal organizations. A significant part of our lives is governed by these
institutions because we function as their consumers or employees, or in the case of a CEO, who may
classify them as business partners or competitors. It must be important to examine the procedures that
take place within organizations to determine what types of organizational structures work to improve,
stagnate, or suppress the attainment of organizational goals. Rational theorists such as Weber, Taylor,

Therefore, the staff employees were discouraged to contribute any ideas that challenged those from

anxiety between employees are not beneficial to the organization because it discourages ambition and
innovation that would help prompt the company s advancement. From the prospective of Jackall,
Jackall explains in detail, the informal rules that govern staff interaction with line officers and his
opposition to the centralization of authority among them. Instead of examining the disadvantages of
workplace friction like Dalton, Jackall explains how higher ranked officers can abuse their authority to
benefit themselves and get away with it. Since rational theorists advocate hierarchical structures of
authority, there is often times, pressure from the higher officials toward the subordinates to make
commitments and goals. This, as stated by Jackall, calls for the emergence of a management by
objective system, which constitutes a chain of commitments from the CEO and down the hierarchical
ladder. In practice, it also shapes a patrimonial authority arrangement that is crucial to defining both
the immediate experiences and the lone run career changes of individual managers (Jackall 158).

30. Social Class Theory And Political Sociology
Power is the The ability of individuals or groups to make there own concerns and interestes count,
even when others resist . ( Anthony Giddens 2001 ). There are three major theoretical frameworks in
political sociology pluralist, elite theory, and social class perspectives. Classic pluralist see power held
by a variety of groups in society; some of which are more powerful than others. The diverse and
competing interests of different groups is the basis for a democratic equilibrium. These groups
compete with each other to maximise their influence. No one group or class is able to dominate all
other groups because of checks and balances built into a democratic system. Elite theory involves the
idea that rather than there being a simple plurality of competing groups in society, there are instead a
series of competing elites and powerful groups who are able to impose their will and dominate the rest
of society. social class theory is based off the ideas of Karl Marx. These frameworks have set the
foundation for most perspectives in political sociology.
There are two main sociological perspectives. The Functionalist Perspective, Symbolic Interactionism
Perspective and the Conflict Perspective. Functionalism presents society as a machine of
interconnected parts that work together in unison to maintain a state of economic balance and social
equilibrium for the whole. for example the family, schools, government and religion are social
institutions that contribute to

Junior Research Paper I chose to research the University of California Riverside for several reasons. I
wanted to attend a four year university that was in California, was reasonably close to home, had
similar weather that I was used to, and had a large campus with a medium to large amount of students.
UCR seemed to fit that description best, and it appealed to me most because of how close to home it
is. UCR is within 20 minutes from home, and it meets all of the other requirements I wished for in a
college that I would like to attend. UCR is one of the easier California Universities to get into, which
is anothermajor reason why I chose this college. The University of California Riverside will be a
