The Sacred Canopy Summary
In his book, The Sacred Canopy: Elements of a Sociological Theory of Religion, Peter L. Berger
details a sociological approach to viewing religion as a human necessity. Berger argues that humans
go through the process of world building in order to create the human specific order they lack
biologically. Berger s theory depends primarily on three key aspects: externalization, objectivation,
and internalization. Through these social and cognitive processes, humans create society, culture,
and ultimately religion. Looking at religion through Berger s sociological lens effectively
identifies how religions and their various beliefs have come to be accepted in our society. In my
second visit to the Islamic Center of San Antonio my aim was to hone in on the most deeply fixed
aspects of Islam in an effort to trace them back through Berger s three stages of world building.
For instance, one of the most striking aspects of members of the Islamic Center of San Antonio is
their strict commitment to prayer. The members I spoke with emphasized the importance of
sticking to the Salah (daily prayers plus the Friday prayer) times.... Show more content on

This strict adherence to the Salah schedule is the result of socialization, which Berger describes as
the process of learning to live within the constructs of society (Berger Religion and World
Construction ). Socialization is completed after something is externalized, given objectivity, and
then internalized. Externalization is the continuous creation of both the physical and non physical
aspects that make up society (Berger Religion and World Construction ). Salah times are not much
different from most aspects of Islam in that they are believed to be taught to the people by the
Prophet Muhammad who learned from Allah

Rachel Cohn Cupcake Sparknotes
Rachel Cohn wrote Cupcake. Cohn published this novel in 2007. Cohn s first book, Gingerbread,
was published in 2002. Since then she has gone on to write many other successful YA and younger
children s books, and has collaborated on three books with the author David Levithan (Rachel
Cohn, 2017). Cupcake relates Cohn to an eighteen year old moving from San Francisco, CA to
Manhattan, NY after high school. Cupcake illustrates a young woman that is contemplating if she
should move on to her new, independent life, or to reunite with her long lost love. Cupcake begins
with Cyd Charisse, the main character, moving to Manhattan, NY. Cyd s older, half brother named

Although Cyd and Shrimp went their separate ways due to Cyd s aspiration to build a future
without him getting in the way, Cyd can t help but think about him and constantly feeling regret
for leaving him. With her new figure and ambition to experiment new activities in New York,
she gives in and goes on a date with the young, hot EMT who helped her onto a stretcher when
she broke her leg. During the odd date, she comes to find out that they are not compatible what
so ever and sneaks across the street to the local Starbucks. Cyd calls her brother Danny and he
comes to her rescue. Although her first date in New York failed badly, she continues to hunt for
a cute guy to spend her time with. Soon enough, she catches up with an old friend named Luis
and begins dating him. Prior to dating Luis, she mistakenly has intoxicated, unprotected sexual
relations with him at a party Danny throws. The hangover the next day resulted in Danny setting
new rules for Cyd and her once again searching for a good coffee shop making sure to be careful
on the flights of stairs down to the bustling streets of New York. She finds a run down coffee

head, goateed chin, tunneled ears, nose and lip rings, fully tattooed arms, and heavy black
eyeliner stood at the register, playing on his Game Boy (Cupcake, p.101). His name is Johnny

ability to make a palatable cappuccino, Johnny or better know as Mold, hires her without any
application or interview and she begins the same day. Mold calls Cyd myself and they become good

Crime Is Not A Major Problem
The purpose of this paper is to critique ?Crime is not a major problem in Australia?.
The following will outline the definition of crime in the context of Australia, discuss and analyse
crime measurement methodology and the ability for the results to be an accurate assessment and
reflection of crime, to examine and compare differing perspectives of crime, and to research the
effect the media has upon the perceptions of crime and whether it can accurately determine whether
crime is a major problem in Australia.
Crime has always been socially defined, determined by morals ethics and perceptions, and leads to
varying and competing views and comprehensive debate. It can be universally agreed that the
definition of crime in terms of legal parameters and also defining crimes in terms of sociological
definitions, can be argued to be the main to focuses when attempting to answer this question. It
relies on existing social and cultural norms.
A basic conclusion is that crime is an act, whether determined by Parliamentary Legislation or not,
that attracts a legal punishment which are offences against the community (Blackburn, 1993, p.
17) and that it is a reflection of society?s beliefs and norms of that particular time (McSherry,
2010) . The Legal definition of crime in complex but simply explained as ?crime is an activity that
the state prohibits by law and punishes? (The Australian Law Dictionary, 2015, p. 199). However,
critics of the legal definitions of crime believe that

The First Step Towards Lasting Campaign Finance Reform
You don t put vote Bartlet in the ad, you can pay for it with unmarked bills from a bank heist if
you want to. Bruno Gianelli (Fictional character, The West Wing, S03E06, Gone Quiet )1
Debates about the just and proper financing of campaigns for public office can be traced as far
back as the Federalist Papers. On one side are those that believe any restriction in the frequency or
amount of individual, corporate or union donations is an unconstitutional assault on the freedom of
(political) expression guaranteed by the First Amendment. On the other side are those that worry
about the fair stewardship of elections. Do those with the means to make more ... Show more

According to OpenSecrets.org,
Super PACs may raise unlimited sums of money from corporations, unions, associations and
individuals, then spend unlimited sums to overtly advocate for or against political candidates.
Super PACs must, however, report their donors to the Federal Election Commission on a monthly
or quarterly basis the Super PAC s choice as a traditional PAC would. Unlike traditional PACs,
Super PACs are prohibited from donating money directly to political candidates. 2
While Super PACs do need to make financial disclosures to the FEC on a monthly basis, their
ability to take donations from corporations leaves them amble room to leave the names of their
end donors undisclosed. Many Super PACs report donations as coming from one or multiple
501(c)(4) (politically active non profit) organizations that do not have to disclose their donors. This
is referred to as the Russian nesting doll problem among campaign finance reform advocates.
It is worth noting that the rise of Super PACs and other forms of unregulated campaign spending is
of concern to politicians too. President Obama, as part of his 2010 State of the Union Address, said,
With all due deference to separation of powers, last week the Supreme Court reversed a century of
law that I believe will open the floodgates for special interests including foreign corporations to
spend without limit in our elections. I don t think American elections should be

Crisis In The Dine
Prologue Before I tell you about myself, I should inform you about the crisis occurring in the
DinГ©, my homeland. The Americans, whom we call bilagГЎanas, have entered our DinГ©. My
father, a warrior, was summoned to defend the homeland yet was killed in battle. The chief, Hastiin
Manuelito, announced that the DinГ© was lost in the war and the bilagГЎanas were sending us off
to somewhere else. For 8,000 years, the Navajo people have lived in this very homeland which the
bilagГЎanas have taken from us. Our people were helpless. We were forced to walk 500 miles, to
our reservation. I saw my people die of starvation, exhaustion, and disease. We are kept in a 40
square mile reservation, all 9,000 of us, in a place called Bosque Redondo, conveniently

Star Wars Influence On American Culture
From the opening text that crawl with a line A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away... along
with John William s timeless score, American culture has always been massively impacted by the
Star Wars universe and all of its wonders. Starting its first movie 1977, Star Wars created a
phenomenon across the US due to its originality in storytelling and amazing works in special
effects. Beyond its popularity, Star War was even selected by the Library of Congress to be
preserved as a national treasure for being aesthetically, culturally and historically significant. This
shows that the spectrum of influence of the franchise does not stop at just filmmaking, but also

He had the whole space fantasy world painted in his mind, but it seemed to be just a fantasy after
all since the technology available was still limited to produce such visual effects. Lucas quickly
realized that in order for his universe to come to life, he was going to have to build it by hand
(theneweconomy, 1). It may have sounded a little ridiculous at first, but for anyone who worked
with Lucas knew that there were no impossibilities when it came to build one of the biggest
franchises in the world. John Dykstra, a visual effect designer, was chosen to work as the head
director in special effects by Lucas for the original trilogy described how he and his group were
spending months to build models and robots from scratch to achieve the realism that Lucas wanted
(theneweconomy, 1). He stated that, Back in the days of Star Wars, we kind of walked into an empty
warehouse and sat on the floor and went How are we going to do this? Lucas and Dykstra were
paying close attention to the details and motions of every creature and miniature in the film,
especially how to make them look as life like as possible through the use of animation and motion
control photography that, surprisingly, still looks fresh today. Star Wars was the first movie to use

Essay On Toronto
The story of Toronto in recent decades is often framed by the rapid economy growth. And Toronto
has been named to many best of lists for living quality, safety, and creativity. But this economic
boom and wealth have not been evenly distributed across all regions of the city. While Toronto is
normally considered as a safer city, significant crime does seriously occur in many neighborhoods. I
visited the Markham and Lawrence neighborhood in Scarborough, to investigate the aging physical
urban changes in inner suburban neighborhoods. and the role of social control that aging
infrastructure and housing are playing in ties with concentrated poverty and urban crime. Toronto s
inner suburbs were composed and constructed during the post war... Show more content on

This neighborhood has seen a severe declination and deterioration in living quality which results in
the loss of the middle class. Many scholars have suggested that factors such as the change in the
modern thinking of living, population flow, and government policies can lead to this declination
and deterioration of the Markham and Lawrence neighborhood. The flight of middle class has left
this neighborhood with social disadvantage and marginalized population such as recent immigrants,
single parent families, and racialized people who were unable to receive affordable
accommodations elsewhere. In fact, people fail to improve their living quality due to the social
segregation of poverty. In addition, it draws evidence on the issue of urban inequality in public
housing, poverty concentration, and gentrification. Theoretically, the perception of urban inequality
is not only about the low economic status, working class displacement and ethnic heterogeneity, but
rather the quality of street spectacles, housing, and residential stability that lead to the current
condition of higher crime rate. Toronto has become increasingly polarized. Referring to Hulchanski
s analysis on the Toronto s three cities, the Markham and Lawrence neighborhood locates in the
City#3 zone. Hulchanski has indicated the current demographic and social trend that Toronto is
dividing into three cities internally due to the Social Spatial Polarization and the shrinking of the

Although the Caribbean can boast that in its short history as independent states, women have been
able to break the glass ceiling and rise to the highest levels, including the office of the Prime
Minister, and despite laws which protect the rights of women, inequality between men and women
remains widespread and deep rooted in many cultural practices and traditions. Like other women in
developing countries, Caribbean women face though choices every day, choices where cultural
tradition often conflict with their human rights.

Maya Angelou s the Graduation
Maya Angelou s The Graduation Throughout life we go through many stepping stones, Maya
Angelou s autobiographical essay Graduation , was about more than just moving on to another
grade. The unexpected events that occurred during the ceremony enabled her to graduate from the
views of a child to the more experienced and sometimes disenchanting views of an adult. Upon
reading the story there is an initial feeling of excitement and hope which was quickly tarnished with
the awareness of human prejudices. The author vividly illustrates many mood changes she
undergoes throughout the story. From the outset of the story there is an overwhelming sense of
hope that has enveloped the entire community and school with the upcoming graduation.... Show

All her perfect practice was now gone and the strain as they fumbled for their chairs began to
crush their pattern. The author was overcome with a presentiment of worse things to come. Don
Leavy s speech caused a fury to start boiling inside of the author due to the assumed fact that she
has lost control over her future. The accomplishment was nothing. , she has already been picked
to act and assume a certain role in society. Anything they aspired for other than maids or farmers
was farcial and presumtous. Along with this fury came frustration. This frustration is like a
blanket that is too short to cover you, no matter how much you stretch and pull, it never covers
you whole. This is now what was consuming her mind. For the moment she had to sit there and
listen to the garbage filling the room, listen to charges brought against my color. What had been
beautiful, was now ugly. She hated the human race for what it had become, a race or mass of
people concreted on bias. The ceremony that had started out as a night of hope had now become
an eternity of hopelessness. Moving from a childlike bliss to an awakening of the world s
prejudice, the author makes the words take on flesh. The story is made alive as she breathes life
into a time that is unpleasant yet not void of hope. The hush hush magic time of frills and gifts and
congratulations disappeared when they were told the cold hard `truth of their fate that some white
man had already decided for them.

Reflection About Communication Technology
The Communications Technology course serves as a base to introduce a student to the
photography as well as the Communication Technology aspect of the field. Over this semester, I
am content with what I have learned are improved upon. When entering the class on this first day, I
did not know what I was going to expect. I thought this course was all about photographyas it is
mainly known as photography ; but after a brief introduction by Mr. Oseivhi, I learned that there is
much more components to it. This course focused on every little basic detail you absolutely need to
know before entering the CommunicationTechnology industry. The company project where we

result separated myself from them and worked individually. But once Mr. Oseivhi made us
realize that situations like these will mostly likely occur in our future jobs we needed to learn
how to adapt to others circumstances and work as a team. So therefore, that did happen and at
the end we got what we accomplished and as well as learned a valuable lesson. When using all

Mentally Retarded Criminals Should Face the Death Penalty...
On June 26, 1989, the United States Supreme Court, in the case of Penry v. Lynaugh, upheld the
imposition of the death penaklty on a mentally retarded offender, John Penry (Chan 1211). The
Court, also, held that the Federal Constitution s eighth amendment s cruel and unusual punishment
clause is not violated by the execution of mentally retarded defendants (Cook 869). I strongly
concur with the United States Supreme Court s decision. I do not believe that mentally retarded
defendants should be categorically exempt from the death penaltybecause of their retardation. I hold
this position because IQ test results are sometimes unreliable, there are different degrees of

High reliabilities are especially needed for tests used for individual assessment such as in court
cases (Sattler 26).
Each IQ test incorporates a standard error of measurement, which is the variation between the
obtained score and the true score. This difference is sometimes as much as fifteen points. Thus,
the IQ score obtrained by a defendant is only one of many possible scores that may be achieved
with different sample questions or the same questions at a different time (Rumley 1334). Should a
mentally retarded defendant with an IQ of 70 be exempt from the death penalty when his score
could range anywhere from 85 to 55? I vehemently believe that a blanket exemption from the
death penalty because of an unreliable IQ score is wrong. In addition, Grossman states that the IQ
s of mentally retarded persons do not remain constant. Studies have shown great fluctuation in IQ
scores for such reasons as fatigue or illness. Numerous studies indicate that motivational factors
can affect IQ scores (Grossman 26 27). Certainly a defendant facing the death penalty would be
highly motivated to do poorly on an IQ test knowing that a score of 70 or below could save him
from the death penalty.
Although the reliability of IQ test results is questionable, many states including Georgia, Tennessee,
Kentucky, Maryland, and New Mexico have enacted legislation categorically prohibiting the
execution of defendants who have an IQ of 70 or below

Money And Spirituality
Money Spirituality Do They Mix? By Anisa Aven Aug 17, 2007 The hoary argument that you
cannot have both spirituality and abundance continues to proliferate and entangle the minds and
experience of many seekers. As a culture, we constantly deal with the subconscious remnants
caused by the conflict between money and spirituality. We have allowed toxic ideas to pervade
our unlimited essence like a virus destroying our intrinsic right to wealth and fulfillment. Ideas
such as money is the root of all evil , that it s easier to get a camel through the eye of a needle
than for a rich man to get into heaven , and that if you are rich, then you must be either a crook,
selfish, or hardened abound in the global consciousness poisoning our natural right to wealth.
Additionally, the infamous subconscious impression amongst many spiritual practitioners and
seekers, you cannot be spiritual and a servant of the Divine, if you charge for your talent or
knowledge continues to be the self imposed prison that forces many spiritual workers to thrash
about in a sea of lack. These are just an infinitesimal sampling of the money and spirituality don t
mix disease. Indeed, if one becomes consumed with the pursuit of wealth from the external vantage
point, their spiritual unification will be compromised. They may achieve wealth but at the cost of
the fulfillment of their divine destiny and at the expense of personal peace. On the other side, when

There is a common belief that our animals find us. Looking for our forever dog does not always

dog to become part of a community. One of the most difficult challenges of aging of the loss of a
pet. While it is not uncommon for retirement communities to allow small cats and dogs, the
resident needs to be able to independently care for their pet either by themselves, family, or paid

bond, and totally support seniors with maintaining a relationship with animals in whatever capacity
they are able. Years ago I was working in a retirement communitycommitted to improving the

The Roots of Poverty and Globalization
The Question: Globalization and poverty
Once the Era of apartheid had come to an end in 1994 the internationally development community
entered South Africa promoting the microcredit model with high hopes to empower the poorest
black communities to break loose from the poverty spiral, however the Microcredit model was seen
to be having the complete opposite effect, ultimately causing incredible damage to the area. The
microcredit model was supposed to be the means of bringing sustainable development to the
extreme poor areas. The model has been named the anti development intervention (1), because in
practice it has only shown that it supports consumption spending. The poor are worse off than
ever before; to keep up with the obligations of repaying their microloans, they are forced to sell
the few assets they own or borrow money from friends or relatives or even worse take up new
microloans in order to pay for the old ones. This is not the only downfall of this type of so called
sustainable development; another problem that emerges from this is that the actual businesses
emerging form microloans are anything but businesses elevating poverty. The type of business that
has been arising from the microloans have only created hyper competition amongst all the new
businesses as well as the old ones, leaving about 40% of the South African population repaying
debt. The poorest and most vulnerable are left behind to take care of themselves drowning in debt,
while the private banks

Student Athletes For The University Of Ohio
Secondly, for student athletes who practice a sport and attend classes, it is often difficult to

the Universityof Ohio. After taking his sociology final exam, he commented that coming to class
was pointless when his only responsibility was to play football for the university (Tracy 1). Student
athletes start to show poor academic achievement when they consume a lot of time in their sports
and often forget about their role of being a student. For instance, when students are not able to
complete their school assignments during the day they decide to study late and do not sleep the
necessary hours they need in order for their bodies to function and their brains to focus. In this
case, the poor achievement in students is notable because they do not perform well in school and
do not have a good nutrition. They often do not have time to eat the required three meals a day that
their bodies need. The poor academic achievement is often noticeable when many coaches begin to
tell their athletes that they are not allowed to take classes that interfere with practice. This puts
athletes in a barrier when they have to balance the two roles of responsibility of attending class and
completing homework assignments and attending the games. Student athletes have a poor mental

Intense competition from local and overseas retailers
Emerging foreign and local companies like Diaso Japan and Mustafa 24 7 shopping centre has
seen impressive growth since their inception in Singapore. It is gaining popularity for its
affordable and its wide selection of goods ranging from daily groceries to electronic gadgets.
Furthermore each has a unique traits for its popularity. For Diaso Japan, most imported goods

Examples Of Bitterness In The Crucible
Bitterness is a feeling of anger, hurt, or resentment toward a bad experience or a sense of unjust
treatment. This emotion is human nature since humans were primitive because it made humans
remember events that negatively affected them, causing feelings such as anger, hate, and hostility
toward what caused the problem. In the play The Crucible by Arthur Miller, many circumstances
came up that caused strong feelings of pain, irritation, and furry. Bitterness is used to demonstrate a
factor of human nature throughout the play by illustrating the experiences of resentment caused by
conflicts. A part of human nature is feeling bitter, and that concept is shown through different
situations during the play. Mrs. Putnam in The Crucible was trying... Show more content on

Proctor said this because he was angry and resentful to the judge. The judge had very little
reason to accuse his wife. This causes Proctor to become bitter. Human nature teachers this
because humans strive for the truth. Whenever the truth is twisted humans become bitter and
spiteful. An instance occurred when Elizabeth went against what Proctor told her to do.
PROCTOR: How do you go to Salem when I forbid it? Do you mock me? Shaking her. I ll whip
you if you dare leave this house again! (Miller 55). Proctor gets very furious and threatens to
whip her. When a person sets a rule and another person breaks that rule it causes frustration and
results in bitterness. Anger completely overtook Marry Warren during Abigail s trial because
Abigail lied about how Elizabeth was using witchcraft. Mary Warren, on her feet with a spring,
and horrified, pleading: Abby! (Miller 115). The reason Mary Warren got so uncontrollably mad
was due to human nature. Abigail made up that was a yellow bird and was out to get her. It is
human nature to seek the truth and Abigail lying caused Mary Warren to become that way. During
this experience Hale is questioning Elizabeth about

The Breakdown of Ithaka
In the lands of Pylos and Sparta, the kingdoms are prospering and in the favor of the gods.
However, in Ithaka, the kingdom is falling to pieces. Why are the kingdoms so different in their
success? Homer puts these three kingdoms side by side in The Odyssey, making it easy to find
similarities and differences between the three. Pylos and Sparta, ruled by Nestor and Menelaos,
could not be more successful. Ithaka, currently has no king in its throne and chaos is resulting
from the battle for the coveted seat. Compared to the kingdoms of Nestor and Menelaos, Ithaka is
breaking down from the loss of order and their leader, Odysseus.
Sparta and Pylos are successful, thriving kingdoms, so what makes Ithaka break down?
Menelaos has a mansion that is the way the court of Zeus must be (4.72). He has no end of
riches, and Sparta is prospering right along with him. Menelaos rules with compassion and this
makes him a great ruler. In Pylos, Nestor sacrifices an impressive heifer for Athena; his
goldsmith gloved each horn in a pure foil beaten out of the gold that Nestor gave him (3.437
438). This costly sacrifice is no expense, because Pylos is a wealthy country. Also, what is added to
the success of Pylos, is the great rule of Nestor. He is a wise and generous soul, who strides to
keep his kingdom under the favor of the gods. Athena truly favors Nestor in which she wishes
honor to Nestor and his sons (3.58). There is no mortal half so wise (1.64) as Odysseus, the ruler of

Diamond Head Trail Recreationists and Their Environmental...
A management approach to Diamond Head trail recreationists and their environmental impact
Volcanoes are an important part of my life. As soon as I learned that my husband was being

also hugely passionate about education and conservation which makes maintaining the integrity
of Diamond Head a critical goal of mine. Selfishly, I want to be able to hike Diamond Head for

The Workplace Challenges And Organizational Behavior
In contrast with the past workplace challenges and organizational behavior, there is a necessity to
understand ourselves and others. Sometimes the stress and prestige can cause an adverse impact on
one s position in the workplace. The ability to deal with our emotions while working effectually
with others and at the same time, performing the organization s expectations are in high demand.
Since the employees are an asset, and the organization is expecting a return on their investment,
understanding how emotions work and how it impacts one s capacity is indispensable in
accomplishing organizational goals. In the workplace, people often have to work with each other.
So the handling of relationships and interacting with others becomes the key to the success of the
organization. Managers need to have a combination of skills and abilities such as the strength of
will, awareness of self, empathyfor others and sensitivity toward others internally and externally.
Before one can handle others emotions he/she must first learn to lead themselves. So the question
become, how is this done? Coleman s theory suggest that this can be done through emotional
intelligencewhich is the ability to create, build and maintain viable relationships (Coleman, 1998,
p. 14). No one wants to follow the leadership of a person who cannot manage his/her emotions. Let
s look together at three business CEO s personal backgrounds and use of emotional intelligence.

Motherhood, the Needle and Thread
Think of one person you can turn to for advice, expect love and warmth from, or tell you who you
should be dating. In most cases one s mother or a mother figure would spring into their minds.
Motherhood is and underlying theme that affects all characters in both Persepolis and A Thousand
Splendid Suns. Essentially, it highlights the unfair treatment directed towards women in their
countries. During the course of both novels all women, even those who were not mothers, are
burdened with the strict morals imposed upon them. For instance, Marjane had issues with staying
true to herself and Laila had difficulties with raising her daughter Aziza and son Zalmai. These
religious and governmental restrictions enforced upon women by men facilitated in painting a clear
portrayal of sacrifice, strength and love that women and mothers needed to attain in order to
survive. Despite the prevalence of a masculine dominant society, the true importance of motherhood
and femininity prevails; binding the novels Persepolis and A Thousand Splendid Suns. Relative to
both novels, motherhood can be assigned an all encompassing definition. Motherhood is the feeling
of warmth, cultural memory, and freedom; it is willing to sacrifice anything for the betterment of
the child. One does not have to physically bare an offspring to be considered a mother. To embrace
the characteristics of motherhood means presenting ultimate love and affection and using complete
agency when raising the child. Maternity

Should The Minimum Age Be Raised To 18
For many teenagers in the United States their 16th birthday is an important milestone. This is
the age that teenagers begin to integrate more into society as they begin to drive and experience
new levels of freedom. As 16 is the usual minimum age for employment in most industries some
teens even get jobs for personal reason or to benefit their household. The minimum age to acquire
a driver s licence should not increase to 18 as younger teens will not be able to help provide for
their families with current public transportation methods in the United States. According to the
Insurance Institute for Highway Safety the first drivers license dates back to 1899 with a license
being issued for a steam propelled vehicle in Chicago, Illinois. Over the next five years various
states began introducing laws on driving, specifically the minimum age, to ensure public safety.
While some states like Massachusetts and Missouri were quick to enact these laws, others were
not. South Dakota took over 50 years to enact a minimum driving age in the state. As states, one
by one, began drafting these public safety laws, the age required to obtain a license varied from 14

The Eight Beatitudes In The Sermon On The Mount
In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus introduced the eight beatitudes to teach his followers how to
live an ideal Christian life. He taught those who listened about the 8 important blessings to guide
us to soon be living an everlasting life with God in His kingdom above. Some of the Beatitudes
influence us to feel compassion towards those who have wronged us, to be able to act out of the
goodness of our hearts, and to bring peace and harmony to friends and enemies in times of
disagreement. These Beatitudesare significant to us as Christians, for they shall enlighten us with
Jesus teachings for a virtuous and moral life here on earth and above. Blessed are the merciful,
for they shall obtain mercy is the fifth beatitude that Jesus had said on the Mount. This Beatitude
means to show forgiveness to those who have wronged you and to always be compassionate and
sympathetic towards them. The idea of being merciful means to give up seeking revenge to
those who have hurt them and follow Jesus ways of turning the other cheek. This Beatitude can
be applied to my own life in many situations, situations in which I have been able to love
someone unconditionally despite the fact that they ve betrayed me. A situation I ve experienced
betrayal was when my friend had gone behind my back spreading personal things that I had

In comparing the Exam Hall to renowned neo classical buildings we can deduce that we are
rightful in describing Trinity College Dublin s Exam Hall as being classical . Chamber s classical
style shined in much of his work, specifically the exam hall. Trinity Colleges Exam Hall can be
described as classical because it is built following the guidelines of Corinthian Order. During the
period of classical architecture the Greeks founded the original three orders Doric, Ionic, and
Corinthian different classical styles of building that followed certain rules and mathematical ratios.
The Romans adopted these orders and made them their own. Roman Corinthian Order is the style of
the Exam Hall. The most distinctive element is the columns, which support an entablature. The
Exam Halls columns contain smooth unfluted shafts made from Portland Stone, a highly sought
after stone at the time. The column capital is ornate as all classical capitals are. The capital is
decorated with acanthus leaves and small volutes. There is also a fleuron in the center of the
abacus, which lie atop the column capital. The capitals are also made of Portland stone. The
entablature, being held up by the columns, contains three discrete elements that are classical in
architecture. The Exam Hall exemplifies all three of these elements. The architrave and frieze are
found to be smooth while the cornice contains dentils,

their ability to read deeply, ask questions, and speak and write persuasively.
PLACEMENT WITHIN THE UNIT
Before:
In order for students to be best prepared for Editing Gender, they will want to complete key parts
of the English 4 Unit 1. In Unit 1, students engage the essential question: What is at stake when
we conceptualize gender as either fixed or fluid? By the time students begin the Cornerstone, they
will have read and discussed the poem The Harlem Dancer by Claude McKay in a seminar
discussion, will have read and written in response to an excerpt of the memoir No Name Woman by
Maxine Hong Kingston, and will have completed a novel study of Jeffrey Eugenides Middlesex.
Throughout these readings, students engage with images, texts, and videos that facilitate discussion
around the portrayal of gender. In the Cornerstone, students will have an opportunity to practice
their ability to synthesize and form a stance on gender portrayal. Students will hone presentation

expressed about the history of science that the history of science is composed of hypocrisy and
skepticism science scoundrels , therefore, it is condemned by the scientific community. It also
indicates that although there were early scientists naive thinking and ideas, such early thinking
contribute to direct our present thinking and make students conceptual changes. It takes long time
for students to make change and build their personal knowledge to become accepted. Moreover, it
mentions that one important misconception about the history of science is there are no mistakes
and wrong turns science has taken; the development of science is only thought is cumulative, and
continuous in science from one generation to another one. Such an error is attributed to distorted
histories of science; especially those found in science textbooks, and contribute to widening the gap
between historian and students. Furthermore, it indicates that one important criteria of choosing
between competing and alternative theories is those, which show

The Reality Of Romantic Love
The lives of numerous people within large societies, including Scandinavians, are culturally
constructed. These cultural norms are passed down through countless generations, nevertheless
Scandinavian countries are especially influenced through arts and literature. The norms people learn
are always taken as a grain of salt, often accepting them as inevitable and natural without question.
Though, in analyzing and challenging these cultural constructs, one is quick to realize that a few of
the viewpoints are just meager conventions of their particular culture. The realization of this can
show anyone that other views can be more realistic in function. For example, a Scandinavian
cultural norm that should be reviewed is the idea of marriagebeing based on romantic love. When
investigated, this notion in our society is discovered as a deceptive explanation of reality. Even
though Scandinavians have very few doubts about romantic love being real, numerous societies
throughout the world see this idea as strange, particularly when marriage is involved. A marriage
based off of romantic love is exclusive to the industrial west, whereas other cultures marry for
social and economic reasons love may or may not follow suit. One of the popular ideas about love
and marriage is that they are synonyms, which arise from the same motifs, and cover similar
human necessities. Like many common beliefs this idea also rests not on real facts, but in
superstition. Love and marriage have little

Motivation Techniques In Remember The Titans
Remember the Titans
In the movie Remember the Titans , there were many instances and techniques of motivation. These
some of the techniques included intrinsic vs. extrinsic, carrot/stick motivation.
The character in Remember the Titans that most exhibited the carrot/stick motivation technique was
the main character, Coach Herman Boone. Coach Boone used this technique early on in the movie
when the players were at camp at Gettysburg College. In an effort to force his players to
overcome their prejudice towards one another, Boone often offered both a carrot and a stick. As
a carrot, Boone offered the team a chance to come together and be a great team. To make history
as one of the first and successful racially integrated football teams in Alexandria Virginia both on
and off the field. This carrot also offered the players the opportunity to meet each other and
realize that other than being from different races, they had a lot in common. Along with the
carrot, Boone also implements a stick, in this case extra practices each day. He states, Until (the
players learn about each other), we go to 3 a day practices. You continue to ignore each other, we
ll go to 4 a day practices. This motivational structure was simple, come together as a team and
break down the racial boundaries, or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similarly to the situation stated above, Boone offers a carrot that includes unity and success on
and off the field. His stick on the other hand can be seen in one of the most famous quotes from
the movie. We will be perfect in every aspect of the game. You drop a pass, you run a mile. You
miss a blocking assignment, you run a mile. You fumble the football, and I will break my foot off
in your John Brown hind parts and then you will run a mile. It can clearly be seen from this quote
that the stick Boone is employing to motivate his team is extra

Valuation of Airthread Connections Essay

REV: APRIL 27, 2012

JOEL L. HEILPRIN
Valuation of AirThread Connections
In early December 2007, Robert Zimmerman, senior vice president of business development for
American Cable Communications (ACC), was in his office sifting through a number of investment
banking proposals related to potential acquisition targets when he paused to consider the recent
presentation made by Rubinstein Ross (R R).
Rubinstein Ross was a boutique investment bank with a strong reputation for doing deals in the
media and telecommunications sector. During that meeting, Elliot Bianco pitched the idea of
American Cable buying out AirThread Connections, a large regional cellular provider. The basic
premise of the AirThread ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition to the strategic fit, R R believed that it could obtain a significant amount of debt
financing for an AirThread acquisition. Bianco was confident that the high quality of AirThread s
network assets, its valuable wireless spectrum licenses, and its steady cash flow would merit a debt
to value ratio as high as 45% to 50% based on EBITDA coverage ratios exceeding 5.0x.1
American Cable Communications
In December of 2007, American Cable Communications (ACC) was one of the largest cable
operators in the United States. The company s cable systems passed roughly 48.5 million homes
and served approximately 24.1 million video subscribers, 13.2 million high speed internet
subscribers, and 4.6 million landline telephony subscribers. Consolidated revenue for 2007 was
expected to be
$30.9 billion with net income of $2.6 billion.
Overview of Cable Industry Dynamics
The cable industry had been rapidly transforming over the last decade as a result of advances in
technology, changes in regulation, and shifts in competitive dynamics. In turn, these forces had
been driving large investments in network infrastructure that require commensurate increases in the
customer base to effectively utilize the new capacity. It was this need to acquire economies of
scale and scope that led American Cable s executives to believe that only a handful of very large
network providers would survive into the

Field Observation
Field Notes: Observation 1 On January 29, a Friday, I observed as five student workers ate their
lunch around the UCI Athletics compound area. It was exactly 12:15 PM, when the student
workers marched into the area and grabbed their lunches. These are my co workers, so I did not
have to do much to blend in. However, I did want to act natural, so I drank from a bottle of water
and sat in a chair in the corner of the compound. They were all eating at the same time, because
they only had a short time until they had to get back to work. The first person I observed pulled
his lunch out of an orange sack, in which he carried all of his items to work. He had a variety of
items he brought to snack one. He moved over to one of the carts, and sat in... Show more content

I could tell that he had made his lunch himself. This person was wearing all black, and like many
of the other students, he was carrying his lunch in his backpack. He kept most of his lunch in his
backpack, and only took out what he was about to eat. The first item he took out to eat, was a home
made sandwich. Upon my observation, it was hard to actually tell everything that was in his
sandwich. From what I could actually view, he had turkey, cheese, tomato, and a jalapeno in his
sandwich. The jalapeno was especially surprising, and his lunch struck me as unique. In
addition to this sandwich, he had fruit snacks and a bottle of water. Moving to another
individual, this person sat quietly on a bucket, while eating a small bag of pumpkin seeds. This
does not really qualify as lunch, but it is a snack. Of all the students eating in the compound
area, his lunch was the smallest. Finally, the last person I observed in the area, was a student
eating another sandwich. All he was eating was a sandwich, and had no water or any other
snacks. In his sandwich, all that appeared to be in it was turkey and cheese. It was a simple
sandwich, but the student did manage to toast the bread. This student was near me, so when the
others left and were walking out of the compound, I asked him if I could interview him after work.
He agreed to an interview when we got off of

Why Cartoon Villains Speak In Foreign Accents Summary
The information that a child learns at a young age translates into their adult lives, too. In the
article Why Do Cartoon Villains Speak in Foreign Accents? , author Isabel Fattal details
sociolinguist Calvin Gidney s studies by using his research to explain how repeatedly associating
foreign accents with villains could have a negative effect on how children think and engage with
diversity in the United States. The author s usage of evidence was thorough. In agreeance to the
author, I do believe that media can affect the way that a child perceives diversity because children
are credulous, which makes them easier to deceive. Why Do Cartoon Villains Speak in Foreign
Accents? is about Calvin Gidney s observations and analysis of language patterns... Show more

This article only presented one side of the argument without acknowledging the other side, which
leaves loopholes and leeway in their argument to speculate other reasons for why foreign accents
are given to villains. Nevertheless, the article contained an ample amount of details and evidence.
The author argues that this correlation can render a negative connotation to kids as they start to
comprehend diversity. To be diverse means to be different. Children can sometimes use the
character s accent to distinguish who the protagonist and antagonist are. Notably, the article reads,
The common denominator in all of these vague foreign accents is the binary distinction of like us
versus not like us. Villainy is marked just by sounding different (Fattal). I agree with the author s
statement. Just by looking at two different people you can already notice the distinctive features
between them. One conversation with a stranger could also determine if they are like me or not
based on the way that they talk. However, as children grow they start to learn right from wrong,
and they might think a person that does not talk like them is the

Essay about Agents of Socialization
Agents of socialization in short are the people, groups, and social institutions, as well as the
interactions within these groups that influence a person s social and self development. Agents of
socialization are believed to provide the critical information needed for children to function
successfully as a member of society. Some examples of such agentsare family, neighborhood,
schools, peers, religion, sports, the workplace, and especially the mass media. Each agent of
socializationis linked to another. For example, in the media, symbolic images affect both the
individual and the society, making the mass media the most controversial socialization agent. One
of the most obvious places agents of socialization lay is in the mallsof... Show more content on

The men in these posters on the other hand are depicted as muscular, tan, strong, wealthy, and
powerful, they too try to fit their role of manhood; hence the reasons there are so many violent
teenage boys. They all think that being tough and strong is how they are supposed to be, and girls
are depicted to be weak, dainty, and depended on males.
Going into different stores, one can easily pick up on the major gender roles each store supports.
Even the morals of an innocent toy store, such as KB Toys, is tainted by the gender
differentiating dolls for girls, and trucks for boys. Upon entering the store you can tell right
away which aisles attract which kids. To the left there is pink fluffy bears, pink Barbie and
friends toys, white teddy bears etc. To the right there is a less vibrant color setting, coordinating
army green, black, and gray color schemes. I think it is apparent to anyone who enters these
stores that the pink pretty isles are meant to attract little girls, and the dark green and gray isles
are meant to attract boys. Upon the packages of toy trucks and guns, there are pictures of young
boys playing with them and/or cartoon male figures controlling them. On the packaging of Barbie
and her friends there are also other girls on the packaging. I was unable to pick up on a single
female on the package of any toy truck or gun throughout the entire store. The

  • 2. The Sacred Canopy Summary In his book, The Sacred Canopy: Elements of a Sociological Theory of Religion, Peter L. Berger details a sociological approach to viewing religion as a human necessity. Berger argues that humans go through the process of world building in order to create the human specific order they lack biologically. Berger s theory depends primarily on three key aspects: externalization, objectivation, and internalization. Through these social and cognitive processes, humans create society, culture, and ultimately religion. Looking at religion through Berger s sociological lens effectively identifies how religions and their various beliefs have come to be accepted in our society. In my second visit to the Islamic Center of San Antonio my aim was to hone in on the most deeply fixed aspects of Islam in an effort to trace them back through Berger s three stages of world building. For instance, one of the most striking aspects of members of the Islamic Center of San Antonio is their strict commitment to prayer. The members I spoke with emphasized the importance of sticking to the Salah (daily prayers plus the Friday prayer) times.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This strict adherence to the Salah schedule is the result of socialization, which Berger describes as the process of learning to live within the constructs of society (Berger Religion and World Construction ). Socialization is completed after something is externalized, given objectivity, and then internalized. Externalization is the continuous creation of both the physical and non physical aspects that make up society (Berger Religion and World Construction ). Salah times are not much different from most aspects of Islam in that they are believed to be taught to the people by the Prophet Muhammad who learned from Allah ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Since then she has gone on to write many other successful YA and younger children s books, and has collaborated on three books with the author David Levithan (Rachel Cohn, 2017). Cupcake relates Cohn to an eighteen year old moving from San Francisco, CA to Manhattan, NY after high school. Cupcake illustrates a young woman that is contemplating if she should move on to her new, independent life, or to reunite with her long lost love. During the odd date, she comes to find out that they are not compatible what so ever and sneaks across the street to the local Starbucks. Cyd calls her brother Danny and he comes to her rescue. Although her first date in New York failed badly, she continues to hunt for a cute guy to spend her time with. Soon enough, she catches up with an old friend named Luis and begins dating him. Prior to dating Luis, she mistakenly has intoxicated, unprotected sexual relations with him at a party Danny throws. The hangover the next day resulted in Danny setting new rules for Cyd and her once again searching for a good coffee shop making sure to be careful on the flights of stairs down to the bustling streets of New York. She finds a run down coffee shop. Inside is a young goth punk of unknown age hard to tell specifically, what with his shaved head, goateed chin, tunneled ears, nose and lip rings, fully tattooed arms, and heavy black eyeliner stood at the register, playing on his Game Boy (Cupcake, p.101). • 4. Crime Is Not A Major Problem The purpose of this paper is to critique ?Crime is not a major problem in Australia?. The following will outline the definition of crime in the context of Australia, discuss and analyse crime measurement methodology and the ability for the results to be an accurate assessment and reflection of crime, to examine and compare differing perspectives of crime, and to research the effect the media has upon the perceptions of crime and whether it can accurately determine whether crime is a major problem in Australia. Crime has always been socially defined, determined by morals ethics and perceptions, and leads to varying and competing views and comprehensive debate. It can be universally agreed that the definition of crime in terms of legal parameters and also defining crimes in terms of sociological definitions, can be argued to be the main to focuses when attempting to answer this question. It relies on existing social and cultural norms. A basic conclusion is that crime is an act, whether determined by Parliamentary Legislation or not, that attracts a legal punishment which are offences against the community (Blackburn, 1993, p. 17) and that it is a reflection of society?s beliefs and norms of that particular time (McSherry, 2010) . Bruno Gianelli (Fictional character, The West Wing, S03E06, Gone Quiet )1 Debates about the just and proper financing of campaigns for public office can be traced as far back as the Federalist Papers. On one side are those that believe any restriction in the frequency or amount of individual, corporate or union donations is an unconstitutional assault on the freedom of (political) expression guaranteed by the First Amendment. According to OpenSecrets.org, Super PACs may raise unlimited sums of money from corporations, unions, associations and individuals, then spend unlimited sums to overtly advocate for or against political candidates. Super PACs must, however, report their donors to the Federal Election Commission on a monthly or quarterly basis the Super PAC s choice as a traditional PAC would. Unlike traditional PACs, Super PACs are prohibited from donating money directly to political candidates. 2 While Super PACs do need to make financial disclosures to the FEC on a monthly basis, their ability to take donations from corporations leaves them amble room to leave the names of their end donors undisclosed. Many Super PACs report donations as coming from one or multiple 501(c)(4) (politically active non profit) organizations that do not have to disclose their donors. This is referred to as the Russian nesting doll problem among campaign finance reform advocates. It is worth noting that the rise of Super PACs and other forms of unregulated campaign spending is of concern to politicians too. President Obama, as part of his 2010 State of the Union Address, said, With all due deference to separation of powers, last week the Supreme Court reversed a century of law that I believe will open the floodgates for special interests including foreign corporations to spend without limit in our elections. It may have sounded a little ridiculous at first, but for anyone who worked with Lucas knew that there were no impossibilities when it came to build one of the biggest franchises in the world. John Dykstra, a visual effect designer, was chosen to work as the head director in special effects by Lucas for the original trilogy described how he and his group were spending months to build models and robots from scratch to achieve the realism that Lucas wanted (theneweconomy, 1). He stated that, Back in the days of Star Wars, we kind of walked into an empty warehouse and sat on the floor and went How are we going to do this? Lucas and Dykstra were paying close attention to the details and motions of every creature and miniature in the film, especially how to make them look as life like as possible through the use of animation and motion control photography that, surprisingly, still looks fresh today. And Toronto has been named to many best of lists for living quality, safety, and creativity. But this economic boom and wealth have not been evenly distributed across all regions of the city. While Toronto is normally considered as a safer city, significant crime does seriously occur in many neighborhoods. This neighborhood has seen a severe declination and deterioration in living quality which results in the loss of the middle class. Many scholars have suggested that factors such as the change in the modern thinking of living, population flow, and government policies can lead to this declination and deterioration of the Markham and Lawrence neighborhood. The flight of middle class has left this neighborhood with social disadvantage and marginalized population such as recent immigrants, single parent families, and racialized people who were unable to receive affordable accommodations elsewhere. In fact, people fail to improve their living quality due to the social segregation of poverty. In addition, it draws evidence on the issue of urban inequality in public housing, poverty concentration, and gentrification. Theoretically, the perception of urban inequality is not only about the low economic status, working class displacement and ethnic heterogeneity, but rather the quality of street spectacles, housing, and residential stability that lead to the current condition of higher crime rate. Toronto has become increasingly polarized. Referring to Hulchanski s analysis on the Toronto s three cities, the Markham and Lawrence neighborhood locates in the City#3 zone. Maya Angelou s the Graduation Maya Angelou s The Graduation Throughout life we go through many stepping stones, Maya Angelou s autobiographical essay Graduation , was about more than just moving on to another grade. The unexpected events that occurred during the ceremony enabled her to graduate from the views of a child to the more experienced and sometimes disenchanting views of an adult. Upon reading the story there is an initial feeling of excitement and hope which was quickly tarnished with the awareness of human prejudices. The accomplishment was nothing. , she has already been picked to act and assume a certain role in society. Anything they aspired for other than maids or farmers was farcial and presumtous. Along with this fury came frustration. This frustration is like a blanket that is too short to cover you, no matter how much you stretch and pull, it never covers you whole. This is now what was consuming her mind. For the moment she had to sit there and listen to the garbage filling the room, listen to charges brought against my color. What had been beautiful, was now ugly. She hated the human race for what it had become, a race or mass of people concreted on bias. The ceremony that had started out as a night of hope had now become an eternity of hopelessness. Moving from a childlike bliss to an awakening of the world s prejudice, the author makes the words take on flesh. Reflection About Communication Technology The Communications Technology course serves as a base to introduce a student to the photography as well as the Communication Technology aspect of the field. Over this semester, I am content with what I have learned are improved upon. When entering the class on this first day, I did not know what I was going to expect. I thought this course was all about photographyas it is mainly known as photography ; but after a brief introduction by Mr. Oseivhi, I learned that there is much more components to it. This course focused on every little basic detail you absolutely need to know before entering the CommunicationTechnology industry. The company project where we were asked to make up a business and develop a business card, letterhead, video and logo made me realized that it isn t easy to work together. You really need to be patient and corporate with others instead of giving up. When my team mates weren t being respectful and doing the work they were assigned, it got me frustrated and infuriated. I preferred working by myself and as a result separated myself from them and worked individually. But once Mr. Oseivhi made us realize that situations like these will mostly likely occur in our future jobs we needed to learn how to adapt to others circumstances and work as a team. So therefore, that did happen and at the end we got what we accomplished and as well as learned a valuable lesson. • 14. Mentally Retarded Criminals Should Face the Death Penalty... On June 26, 1989, the United States Supreme Court, in the case of Penry v. Lynaugh, upheld the imposition of the death penaklty on a mentally retarded offender, John Penry (Chan 1211). The Court, also, held that the Federal Constitution s eighth amendment s cruel and unusual punishment clause is not violated by the execution of mentally retarded defendants (Cook 869). I strongly concur with the United States Supreme Court s decision. I do not believe that mentally retarded defendants should be categorically exempt from the death penaltybecause of their retardation. I hold this position because IQ test results are sometimes unreliable, there are different degrees of understanding of right and wrong among mentally retarded... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... High reliabilities are especially needed for tests used for individual assessment such as in court cases (Sattler 26). Each IQ test incorporates a standard error of measurement, which is the variation between the obtained score and the true score. This difference is sometimes as much as fifteen points. Thus, the IQ score obtrained by a defendant is only one of many possible scores that may be achieved with different sample questions or the same questions at a different time (Rumley 1334). Should a mentally retarded defendant with an IQ of 70 be exempt from the death penalty when his score could range anywhere from 85 to 55? I vehemently believe that a blanket exemption from the death penalty because of an unreliable IQ score is wrong. In addition, Grossman states that the IQ s of mentally retarded persons do not remain constant. Studies have shown great fluctuation in IQ scores for such reasons as fatigue or illness. Numerous studies indicate that motivational factors can affect IQ scores (Grossman 26 27). Certainly a defendant facing the death penalty would be highly motivated to do poorly on an IQ test knowing that a score of 70 or below could save him from the death penalty. Although the reliability of IQ test results is questionable, many states including Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Maryland, and New Mexico have enacted legislation categorically prohibiting the execution of defendants who have an IQ of 70 or below ... By Anisa Aven Aug 17, 2007 The hoary argument that you cannot have both spirituality and abundance continues to proliferate and entangle the minds and experience of many seekers. As a culture, we constantly deal with the subconscious remnants caused by the conflict between money and spirituality. We have allowed toxic ideas to pervade our unlimited essence like a virus destroying our intrinsic right to wealth and fulfillment. Ideas such as money is the root of all evil , that it s easier to get a camel through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to get into heaven , and that if you are rich, then you must be either a crook, selfish, or hardened abound in the global consciousness poisoning our natural right to wealth. Additionally, the infamous subconscious impression amongst many spiritual practitioners and seekers, you cannot be spiritual and a servant of the Divine, if you charge for your talent or knowledge continues to be the self imposed prison that forces many spiritual workers to thrash about in a sea of lack. These are just an infinitesimal sampling of the money and spirituality don t mix disease. • 20. The Roots of Poverty and Globalization The Question: Globalization and poverty Once the Era of apartheid had come to an end in 1994 the internationally development community entered South Africa promoting the microcredit model with high hopes to empower the poorest black communities to break loose from the poverty spiral, however the Microcredit model was seen to be having the complete opposite effect, ultimately causing incredible damage to the area. The microcredit model was supposed to be the means of bringing sustainable development to the extreme poor areas. The model has been named the anti development intervention (1), because in practice it has only shown that it supports consumption spending. The poor are worse off than ever before; to keep up with the obligations of repaying their microloans, they are forced to sell the few assets they own or borrow money from friends or relatives or even worse take up new microloans in order to pay for the old ones. This is not the only downfall of this type of so called sustainable development; another problem that emerges from this is that the actual businesses emerging form microloans are anything but businesses elevating poverty. The type of business that has been arising from the microloans have only created hyper competition amongst all the new businesses as well as the old ones, leaving about 40% of the South African population repaying debt. The poorest and most vulnerable are left behind to take care of themselves drowning in debt, while the private banks ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. Student Athletes For The University Of Ohio Secondly, for student athletes who practice a sport and attend classes, it is often difficult to complete both tasks. Many students begin to show less motivation making it harder to stay focus and attend their required classes. This is the case of student athlete Cardale Jones, a quarterback for the Universityof Ohio. After taking his sociology final exam, he commented that coming to class was pointless when his only responsibility was to play football for the university (Tracy 1). Student athletes start to show poor academic achievement when they consume a lot of time in their sports and often forget about their role of being a student. For instance, when students are not able to complete their school assignments during the day they decide to study late and do not sleep the necessary hours they need in order for their bodies to function and their brains to focus. In this case, the poor achievement in students is notable because they do not perform well in school and do not have a good nutrition. They often do not have time to eat the required three meals a day that their bodies need. The poor academic achievement is often noticeable when many coaches begin to tell their athletes that they are not allowed to take classes that interfere with practice. This puts athletes in a barrier when they have to balance the two roles of responsibility of attending class and completing homework assignments and attending the games. This emotion is human nature since humans were primitive because it made humans remember events that negatively affected them, causing feelings such as anger, hate, and hostility toward what caused the problem. In the play The Crucible by Arthur Miller, many circumstances came up that caused strong feelings of pain, irritation, and furry. Why are the kingdoms so different in their success? Homer puts these three kingdoms side by side in The Odyssey, making it easy to find similarities and differences between the three. Pylos and Sparta, ruled by Nestor and Menelaos, could not be more successful. Ithaka, currently has no king in its throne and chaos is resulting from the battle for the coveted seat. Compared to the kingdoms of Nestor and Menelaos, Ithaka is breaking down from the loss of order and their leader, Odysseus. Sparta and Pylos are successful, thriving kingdoms, so what makes Ithaka break down? Menelaos has a mansion that is the way the court of Zeus must be (4.72). He has no end of riches, and Sparta is prospering right along with him. Menelaos rules with compassion and this makes him a great ruler. In Pylos, Nestor sacrifices an impressive heifer for Athena; his goldsmith gloved each horn in a pure foil beaten out of the gold that Nestor gave him (3.437 438). This costly sacrifice is no expense, because Pylos is a wealthy country. Also, what is added to the success of Pylos, is the great rule of Nestor. He is a wise and generous soul, who strides to keep his kingdom under the favor of the gods. Athena truly favors Nestor in which she wishes honor to Nestor and his sons (3.58). In most cases one s mother or a mother figure would spring into their minds. Motherhood is and underlying theme that affects all characters in both Persepolis and A Thousand Splendid Suns. Essentially, it highlights the unfair treatment directed towards women in their countries. During the course of both novels all women, even those who were not mothers, are burdened with the strict morals imposed upon them. For instance, Marjane had issues with staying true to herself and Laila had difficulties with raising her daughter Aziza and son Zalmai. These religious and governmental restrictions enforced upon women by men facilitated in painting a clear portrayal of sacrifice, strength and love that women and mothers needed to attain in order to survive. Despite the prevalence of a masculine dominant society, the true importance of motherhood and femininity prevails; binding the novels Persepolis and A Thousand Splendid Suns. This is the age that teenagers begin to integrate more into society as they begin to drive and experience new levels of freedom. The minimum age to acquire a driver s licence should not increase to 18 as younger teens will not be able to help provide for their families with current public transportation methods in the United States. Over the next five years various states began introducing laws on driving, specifically the minimum age, to ensure public safety. While some states like Massachusetts and Missouri were quick to enact these laws, others were not. South Dakota took over 50 years to enact a minimum driving age in the state. He taught those who listened about the 8 important blessings to guide us to soon be living an everlasting life with God in His kingdom above. Some of the Beatitudes influence us to feel compassion towards those who have wronged us, to be able to act out of the goodness of our hearts, and to bring peace and harmony to friends and enemies in times of disagreement. These Beatitudesare significant to us as Christians, for they shall enlighten us with Jesus teachings for a virtuous and moral life here on earth and above. This Beatitude means to show forgiveness to those who have wronged you and to always be compassionate and sympathetic towards them. History Of Science And Conceptual Understanding History of science and conceptual understanding According to Richard K Moran, and Page K, in Teaching for Conceptual Understanding in Science , Studying history of science is important because it enable students understand the development of thought, and generalization would be empty without concrete examples. In addition, One important concern for shutting history of science out of the undergraduate science curriculum was an anxiety expressed about the history of science that the history of science is composed of hypocrisy and skepticism science scoundrels , therefore, it is condemned by the scientific community. It also indicates that although there were early scientists naive thinking and ideas, such early thinking contribute to direct our present thinking and make students conceptual changes. It takes long time for students to make change and build their personal knowledge to become accepted. Moreover, it mentions that one important misconception about the history of science is there are no mistakes and wrong turns science has taken; the development of science is only thought is cumulative, and continuous in science from one generation to another one. Such an error is attributed to distorted histories of science; especially those found in science textbooks, and contribute to widening the gap between historian and students. • 41. The Reality Of Romantic Love The lives of numerous people within large societies, including Scandinavians, are culturally constructed. These cultural norms are passed down through countless generations, nevertheless Scandinavian countries are especially influenced through arts and literature. The norms people learn are always taken as a grain of salt, often accepting them as inevitable and natural without question. Though, in analyzing and challenging these cultural constructs, one is quick to realize that a few of the viewpoints are just meager conventions of their particular culture. The realization of this can show anyone that other views can be more realistic in function. For example, a Scandinavian cultural norm that should be reviewed is the idea of marriagebeing based on romantic love. When investigated, this notion in our society is discovered as a deceptive explanation of reality. Even though Scandinavians have very few doubts about romantic love being real, numerous societies throughout the world see this idea as strange, particularly when marriage is involved. A marriage based off of romantic love is exclusive to the industrial west, whereas other cultures marry for social and economic reasons love may or may not follow suit. One of the popular ideas about love and marriage is that they are synonyms, which arise from the same motifs, and cover similar human necessities. Like many common beliefs this idea also rests not on real facts, but in superstition. Love and marriage have little ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Motivation Techniques In Remember The Titans Remember the Titans In the movie Remember the Titans , there were many instances and techniques of motivation. These some of the techniques included intrinsic vs. extrinsic, carrot/stick motivation. The character in Remember the Titans that most exhibited the carrot/stick motivation technique was the main character, Coach Herman Boone. Coach Boone used this technique early on in the movie when the players were at camp at Gettysburg College. In an effort to force his players to overcome their prejudice towards one another, Boone often offered both a carrot and a stick. As a carrot, Boone offered the team a chance to come together and be a great team. To make history as one of the first and successful racially integrated football teams in Alexandria Virginia both on and off the field. This carrot also offered the players the opportunity to meet each other and realize that other than being from different races, they had a lot in common. Along with the carrot, Boone also implements a stick, in this case extra practices each day. He states, Until (the players learn about each other), we go to 3 a day practices. You continue to ignore each other, we ll go to 4 a day practices. This motivational structure was simple, come together as a team and break down the racial boundaries, or ... HEILPRIN Valuation of AirThread Connections In early December 2007, Robert Zimmerman, senior vice president of business development for American Cable Communications (ACC), was in his office sifting through a number of investment banking proposals related to potential acquisition targets when he paused to consider the recent presentation made by Rubinstein Ross (R R). • 44. Field Observation Field Notes: Observation 1 On January 29, a Friday, I observed as five student workers ate their lunch around the UCI Athletics compound area. It was exactly 12:15 PM, when the student workers marched into the area and grabbed their lunches. These are my co workers, so I did not have to do much to blend in. However, I did want to act natural, so I drank from a bottle of water and sat in a chair in the corner of the compound. They were all eating at the same time, because they only had a short time until they had to get back to work. The first person I observed pulled his lunch out of an orange sack, in which he carried all of his items to work. He had a variety of items he brought to snack one. This person was wearing all black, and like many of the other students, he was carrying his lunch in his backpack. He kept most of his lunch in his backpack, and only took out what he was about to eat. The first item he took out to eat, was a home made sandwich. Upon my observation, it was hard to actually tell everything that was in his sandwich. From what I could actually view, he had turkey, cheese, tomato, and a jalapeno in his sandwich. The jalapeno was especially surprising, and his lunch struck me as unique. In addition to this sandwich, he had fruit snacks and a bottle of water. Moving to another individual, this person sat quietly on a bucket, while eating a small bag of pumpkin seeds. This does not really qualify as lunch, but it is a snack. Of all the students eating in the compound area, his lunch was the smallest. Finally, the last person I observed in the area, was a student eating another sandwich. All he was eating was a sandwich, and had no water or any other snacks. In his sandwich, all that appeared to be in it was turkey and cheese. It was a simple sandwich, but the student did manage to toast the bread. This student was near me, so when the others left and were walking out of the compound, I asked him if I could interview him after work. He agreed to an interview when we got off of ... • 45. Why Cartoon Villains Speak In Foreign Accents Summary The information that a child learns at a young age translates into their adult lives, too. In the article Why Do Cartoon Villains Speak in Foreign Accents? , author Isabel Fattal details sociolinguist Calvin Gidney s studies by using his research to explain how repeatedly associating foreign accents with villains could have a negative effect on how children think and engage with diversity in the United States. The author s usage of evidence was thorough. In agreeance to the author, I do believe that media can affect the way that a child perceives diversity because children are credulous, which makes them easier to deceive. Why Do Cartoon Villains Speak in Foreign Accents? is about Calvin Gidney s observations and analysis of language patterns... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This article only presented one side of the argument without acknowledging the other side, which leaves loopholes and leeway in their argument to speculate other reasons for why foreign accents are given to villains. Nevertheless, the article contained an ample amount of details and evidence. The author argues that this correlation can render a negative connotation to kids as they start to comprehend diversity. To be diverse means to be different. Children can sometimes use the character s accent to distinguish who the protagonist and antagonist are. Notably, the article reads, The common denominator in all of these vague foreign accents is the binary distinction of like us versus not like us. Villainy is marked just by sounding different (Fattal). I agree with the author s statement. Just by looking at two different people you can already notice the distinctive features between them. One conversation with a stranger could also determine if they are like me or not based on the way that they talk. However, as children grow they start to learn right from wrong, and they might think a person that does not talk like them is the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some examples of such agentsare family, neighborhood, schools, peers, religion, sports, the workplace, and especially the mass media. Each agent of socializationis linked to another. Going into different stores, one can easily pick up on the major gender roles each store supports. Even the morals of an innocent toy store, such as KB Toys, is tainted by the gender differentiating dolls for girls, and trucks for boys. Upon entering the store you can tell right away which aisles attract which kids. To the left there is pink fluffy bears, pink Barbie and friends toys, white teddy bears etc. To the right there is a less vibrant color setting, coordinating army green, black, and gray color schemes. I think it is apparent to anyone who enters these stores that the pink pretty isles are meant to attract little girls, and the dark green and gray isles are meant to attract boys. Upon the packages of toy trucks and guns, there are pictures of young boys playing with them and/or cartoon male figures controlling them. On the packaging of Barbie and her friends there are also other girls on the packaging. I was unable to pick up on a single female on the package of any toy truck or gun throughout the entire store.
