It is a period of technological change. Rebel Industry 4.0 open-source software solutions, striking from hidden bases, have won their first victories against the evil proprietary Industrial Empire. During the battle, Rebel spies managed to implement industrial protocols to the Empire’s ultimate weapons, the industrial Programmable Logic Controllers, almost unprotected pieces of hardware with enough power to destroy an entire planet. Pursued by the Empire’s sinister agents, a representative of the project races to Berlin aboard his ICE, custodian of his plans to revolutionize the way we are building Industry 4.0 applications, that can free all companies and restore freedom to the industry …
Learn how the Apache PLC4X project has evolved and what we have planned for the future and especially how it can currently help close the gap between industrial hardware and modern software solutions to build the next generation of industrial IoT solutions, based entirely on open-source software.

The Need For Effective Early Engagement In Solution Architecture And DesignAlan McSweeney
Early engagement in the solution delivery process needs to occur before any solution delivery project is initiated. Its objective is to understand the scope, requirements, objectives, approach, options and to get a high-level understanding of the likely resources, timescale and cost required before starting the project
Fundamentally, early engagement is about managing risk:
• Risk of doing the wrong thing
• Risk of doing it in the wrong way
• Risk of underestimating complexity and scope of work
• Risk of higher than expected cost of operation and maintenance
• Risk of underestimating organisation change impact and organisation resistance
• Risk through uncertainty
Early engagement is not a requirements gathering exercise. Traditional requirements gathering requires substantial initial effort, resources and cost and for the business to commit without doubts, uncertainties and ambiguities being known.
Early Engagement involves taking a not necessarily well-defined request from the business and creating an unambiguous set of solution options including their delivery and operation quickly and accurately
This paper describes an approach to early engagement in the solution definition process.
Inductive Automation Chief Strategy Officer Don Pearson and a panel of experienced control system integrators discussed how organizations like yours are saving valuable time and money by using Ignition and how you can start speeding up your SCADA development today.
Learn how Ignition saves time with:
- Quick downloading and installation
- Simple deployment
- Uninterrupted production and easy updates
- Concurrent development
- And more
In a world rocked by the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), the mobile revolution, Digital Transformation, and COVID-19, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) remains an essential technology system for manufacturers. However, a SCADA system that was “good enough” 10 or 15 years ago will not be adequate in today’s environment. Before adopting or upgrading to a new SCADA system, you must be certain that it offers the power and flexibility your organization needs to adapt to these unfolding changes.
Lightning Fast SCADA Development with Open Library for WinCC OA DMC, Inc.
Presenter - Leon Grossman
The Siemens platforms have always encouraged the use of modular, reusable, and object-oriented code. Last year, DMC expanded on those concepts by working with Siemens to release the Open Library. It is a library of many common industrial objects (drives, valves, analog, etc.) that has paired PLC function blocks with HMI faceplates for WinCC Comfort and Advanced.
The Open Library has recently expanded to support WinCC OA and leverage the new object oriented CTRL++ language elements released in WinCC OA v3.15. These new WinCC OA objects directly support the PLC objects in the library and support single tag configuration just like their HMI-centric cousins. We will discuss the role of object-oriented design in, how to obtain the Open Library, and how to use this library in your projects.

Internet of Things (IoT) - We Are at the Tip of An IcebergDr. Mazlan Abbas
You are likely benefitting from The Internet of Things (IoT) today, whether or not you’re familiar with the term. If your phone automatically connects to your car radio, or if you have a smartwatch counting your steps, congratulations! You have adopted one small piece of a very large IoT pie, even if you haven't adopted the name yet.
IoT may sound like a business buzzword, but in reality, it’s a real technological revolution that will impact everything we do. It's the next IT Tsunami of new possibility that is destined to change the face of technology, as we know it. IoT is the interconnectivity between things using wireless communication technology (each with their own unique identifiers) to connect objects, locations, animals, or people to the Internet, thus allowing for the direct transmission of and seamless sharing of data.
IoT represents a massive wave of technical innovation. Highly valuable companies will be built and new ecosystems will emerge from bridging the offline world with the online into one gigantic new network. Our limited understanding of the possibilities hinders our ability to see future applications for any new technology. Mainstream adoption of desktop computers and the Internet didn’t take hold until they became affordable and usable. When that occurred, fantastic and creative new innovation ensued. We are on the cusp of that tipping point with the Internet of Things.
IoT matters because it will create new industries, new companies, new jobs, and new economic growth. It will transform existing segments of our economy: retail, farming, industrial, logistics, cities, and the environment. It will turn your smartphone into the command center for the both digital and physical objects in your life. You will live and work smarter, not harder – and what we are seeing now is only the tip of the iceberg.

Rapid Product Innovation: Improving Processes for Production System Design Implementation and Design, Implementation, Operations
ARC's Greg Gorbach Rapid Product Innovation Presentation @ ARC Industry Forum 2010 in Orlando, FL.
For certain manufacturing segments (especially discrete and portions of hybrid), introducing new products or improving the manufacturing process usually requires creating or modifying production systems. Many production system problems are not discovered until late in the design/implementation process, which introduces delays and cost. Once in operation, virtual reference models, if available, could aid in performance monitoring, process optimization, problem diagnosis, operator training, and continuous improvement

NEEDHAM, Mass. and PITTSBURGH – May 17, 2017 –– PTC (NASDAQ: PTC) and ANSYS (NASDAQ: ANSS) today announced a solution that will enable ANSYS engineering simulation technology to be rapidly added to applications built on the ThingWorx® Industrial Internet of Things (IoT) platform from PTC. The development of a connector between these two technology platforms will enable customers to transform raw data into new forms of actionable intelligence. The connector will integrate intelligent digital simulation models with products as they exist and operate in the real world. This will open up new opportunities for companies to create value by enabling them to optimize operations and maintenance and to integrate them into their product development processes.

Enterprise Excellence is Inclusive Excellence.pdfKaiNexus
Enterprise excellence and inclusive excellence are closely linked, and real-world challenges have shown that both are essential to the success of any organization. To achieve enterprise excellence, organizations must focus on improving their operations and processes while creating an inclusive environment that engages everyone. In this interactive session, the facilitator will highlight commonly established business practices and how they limit our ability to engage everyone every day. More importantly, though, participants will likely gain increased awareness of what we can do differently to maximize enterprise excellence through deliberate inclusion.
What is Enterprise Excellence?
Enterprise Excellence is a holistic approach that's aimed at achieving world-class performance across all aspects of the organization.
What might I learn?
A way to engage all in creating Inclusive Excellence. Lessons from the US military and their parallels to the story of Harry Potter. How belt systems and CI teams can destroy inclusive practices. How leadership language invites people to the party. There are three things leaders can do to engage everyone every day: maximizing psychological safety to create environments where folks learn, contribute, and challenge the status quo.
Who might benefit? Anyone and everyone leading folks from the shop floor to top floor.

Editor's Notes
Our goal is to give customers a Product and Service AdvantageOur mission is to provide technology solutions that transform how products are created and servicedTechnology solution: We are a technology/software company, however we are not selling shrink wrap software. We provide the services and know-how to solve customers problems with the technology. Transform: Speaks to process change. We are in the business of changing customers processes.Create and Service products: Both the upfront knowledge work to create products and service offerings along with the manufacturing and servicing of those products.
PTC has identified seven major forces, some of which are long-standing while others are more recent, that are transforming manufacturing. In recent years, leverage from production-centric product strategies has begun to diminish, in part because they have become commonplace. Optimization of manufacturing production processes will have become simply the “price of entry” to compete. The path to true competitive advantage in the modern manufacturing era requires a rethinking of nearly everything - from how products are designed, built, and serviced, to the underlying business models manufacturers employ. Causing the need for this strategic realignment is a set of market forces, which are now converging to accelerate the manufacturing industry’s trajectory toward the “tipping point” of a fundamental transformation. Understanding the driving forces, their specific impact, and the opportunities they create, reveals the roots of manufacturing transformation and the future of competitive advantage. DIGITIZATIONReplacing analog product and service information with a fully accurate virtual representation that can be easily leveraged across the value chain (engineering, factory floor, service).GLOBALIZATIONThe general shrinking of the world driven by technology that eliminates economic and geographical divisions and opens new markets.REGULATIONEnforcement of governmental rules, non-governmental organization policies and industry standards related to environment, health, safety and trade.PERSONALIZATIONEfficiently tailoring products and services to accommodate regional and personal preferences.SOFTWARE-INTENSIVE PRODUCTSIntegrated systems of hardware and software capable of sophisticated human-to-machine interaction, diagnostics and service data capture, with additional value delivered through enhancements.SERVITIZATIONFundamental business model shift in which products evolve to integrated “bundles” of services capable of delivering new value continuously throughout the customer experience lifecycle.CONNECTIVITYPervasive networks of “things” – often mobile – embedded with sensors and individually addressable to enable sophisticated monitoring, control, and communication.
The Technology piece: Process improvement is pivotal to product and service advantage, and to business success.PTC has a portfolio of technology solutions (CAD, ALM, PLM, SCM, SLM) and a system which to manage and interconnect them. The system enables business process optimization and drives transformation across the total product lifecycle and enterprise. We are leaders across these five critical business areas with the technology system and knowhow to flexibly connect all five. Our solutions, whether standalone or working together as a system, enable us to transform the way products are created and serviced so our customers can achieve ongoing product and service advantageDetailed system of solutions located in the appendix
