7. The overall transport volume in Europe increases year by year introduced by a growing and more mobile
population.
Especially the peaks of capacity utilization of the infrastructure in rush hours is a challenge – which shall
be addressed with more digitalization and process optimization; and not only additional concrete!
The implementation faces it’s challenges:
- Heterogenous requirements – small volumes
- Non-standardized vehicle architectures
- Massive approval effort for hardware and software
The resulting time-to-market, the costs and the current effort for maintenance (e.g. software updates) is
not at eye level comparing with other industries (e.g. the automation industry).

8. A centralized communication architecture, based on industry-standardized protocols, is a major
requirement to introduce the digitalization within reasonable costs and time-to-market.
The ITxPT organization enables interoperability between IT systems in Public Transport by specifying an
IP based onboard communication infrastructure.
NetModule is an incubator of IP technologies and it’s open network protocols for more than 20 years.

vehicle to ground connection as a service for all
onboard units.

Inventory
The Module Inventory Service is mandatory in
ITxPT architecture.
There are two main use-cases:
— basic module without any need to
communicate to backoffice only need to
implement the DNS reply (including TXT
record)
— more complete module needs to implement the
HTTP part as well (including xml file).
