Essay on Censorship in Television and Radio
Censorship in Television and Radio
For our group project we, group 6, decided to focus our attention on censorship in television and on
the radio. We showed most of the attention to the Janet Jackson incident in Super Bowl 38 when
looking at television, and for radio, focused on the FCC and disc jockeys like Howard Stern. Here are
the television articles as done by three of our group members.
If there is a single most important event that happened in television that caused major ramifications, it
would be the Janet Jackson s wardrobe malfunction during the halftime show at Super Bowl 38. In
this incident Janet Jackson exposed her right breast. Worst of all the Super Bowl was broadcast on
CBS, a non cable free channel, where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The white house supports these ideas saying This legislation will make broadcast television and radio
more suitable for family viewing by giving the FCC the authority to impose meaningful penalties on
broadcasters tat air obscene or indecent material over the public airwaves .
The television has responded to the scrutiny that they have been put under, not by rebelling, but
complying with these new rules and censoring themselves. For starters Victoria s Secret cancelled its
annual fashion show, on television, this year. Fox is trying to clean up its act by employing people to
monitor its star reality show, American Idol , as well as other reality shows. Comcast Corporation told
Congress that it will increase its efforts to assist parents in choosing the right programming for their
children. In an interview with Survivor host Jeff Probst said that the producers were told to enlarge the
digital blur over Richard Hatch, who spent part of his time on the show naked. NBC planned to show
a woman s exposed breasts on ER, but from pressure from their affiliates the scene was edited. ABC
also planed on showing a racy sex scene on their show NYPD Blue, but because the show was played
before 10:00 in Central and Mountain Time the scene was darkened to show less. Stemming from the
Janet Jackson incident many live shows were put on a delay. MTV will used a delay

Economic Systems
Introduction
Economic systems are organized way in which a state or nation allocates its resources and apportions
goods and services in the national community. An economic system is slackly defined as country s
plan for its services, goods produced, and the exact way in which its economic plan is carried out.
There are three types of economic systems exist, they are command economy, market economy, and
mixed economy. Command economy is also sometimes called planned economy. The expectations of
this type of economy is that all major decisions that related to the construction or production,
distribution, commodity and service prices are all made by the government. However, in market
economy, national and state governments play a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Prices also have the function to allocate and distribute a country s resources. Market leads to complete
effectiveness bringing about the best possible distribution of a country s resources in a perfect world.
This would only happen in a state of equilibrium and there is a unique price for every commodity. But
in a realistic world which is imperfect by nature, prices are never at equilibrium and very unstable
depending upon the vagaries of the market forces. This generally harms people living below the
poverty line. It is impossible for them to pay high prices in cases of demand shortage. Thus, the free
market model is not a viable option in developing countries which has a large number of poor.
Besides, producers are aim to minimize profit and maximize rent of production. Examples of countries
that are using this economy system are Hong Kong, USA, and UK. Many developing countries like
India and China are moving towards totally free market economy. The command economy is
government directed. The market forces have very little say in such an economy. There is no private
property. On the other hand, a command economy aims at using all available resources for developing
either in advertising or marketing. In order to ensure that the required inputs are available, the state
would probably conduct some form of input output analysis. All industries act as the input from other
industries and the producers act as the

Dog Breeding Research Paper
Methods Used to Breed Dogs
Purebred dogs are attractive to pet owners but breeding purebreds or any other dog for that matter, is
not as straightforward as it looks. Breeding lines often produce pets with different characteristics and
the same statement applies whether you breed purebreds or mix breeds. It is impossible to become an
effective dog breeder without doing some homework. Breeding dogs is a complex process that
requires research, time and money.
Breeding standards are crucial to all successful dog breeders and personal likes and dislikes, including
type, color and size are often taken into account. Those who breed puppies tend to have a favourite
type of dog, a pet with a certain appearance and temperament. They mate the animal hoping the bitch
gives birth to pups with similar characteristics. This textbook breeding process aims to produce pups
resembling their parents and puppies that look like those in pictures and books. In general, a healthy
breeding line is essential, so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Do they have a good pedigree, is the breed attractive and does the breed have the required traits? Do

Well informed dog breeders are effective, they research dog breeding online and keep up to date with
the latest breeding methods. Diverse breeding techniques produce different pups, for example,
potential breeders should know about purebreds, inbreeding, out crossing and line breeding.
Cross breeding is a popular way to produce a litter of pups. Breed a dog and a bitch of a different
breed to produce a cross bred, however, be mindful, crossbreds are not one of the most sought after
breeds. A crossbred pet may have behavioural problems that will be impossible to account

Depiction Of Women s Magazines
In order to arrive at the conclusion from the present study as intended to find out the difference in
depiction of women in men s magazines from that of the women s magazines, a method of content
analysis has been adopted. This content analysis focused on the portrayals of women s body in
advertisement in six different magazines; three Men s Magazine (Playboy, Maxim and FHM) and
three Women s Magazine (Glamour, In Style and Cosmopolitan). The purpose of this study was to
determine the portrayal of women body in the advertisements of the male magazines differ from those
of the females. It was also intended toward finding that the women were portrayed in different ways
for different audiences. Portrayals of women in magazines (men s and women s) may cultivate beliefs
or expectations about physical appearance, sexuality, relationships or gender roles. Previous research
by Rechert and Carpenter (2004) on this topic suggested that there has been an overall increase in
sexual dress in portrayals of women and intimate contact between men and women from 1983 to 2003
in ads of different types of magazines including those for men and women. If the model in the ad was
nude or almost nude, she would be considered sexually dressed. Intimate contact was contact between
a male and female in an ad that was suggestive of sex or sexual acts. For the sake of the current
content analysis, the focus will be on the findings of the increases in sexual dress. According to the
researchers, sex in

Do Billy Pilgrim Behaviors Make Him Crazy or Mentally Well? Slaughterhouse Five book is antiwar
novel, and it was written by Kurt Vonnegut. The whole story is based on a person Billy Pilgrim, and
he is not stuck in time. Billy time traveling and relives various occasions throughout his life. Billy
Pilgrim is the main character in this book. The narrator tells us that Billy was born in 1922 in Ilium,
New York, the only child of a barber there. He graduated from Ilium High School in the upper third of
his class, and he attended night sessions at the Ilium School of Optometry for one semester before
being drafted for military service in the Second World War (Vonnegut 30). Then, after training he was
sent to Germany during the war. Billy acknowledges diverse values and sees horrible and morbid
occasions in a different contrast to others. Billy also experiences a lifestyle that is not visible to other
people. Many readers would contend that Billy s encounters make him crazy; however, Billy s
experiences with the Tralfamadorians (a group extra terrestrial time travelers) enable him to keep his
wisdom and remain an exceptionally clever, intelligent and happy man. Many readers contend that
Billy is totally crazy. Their position may incorporate the way that Billy never tells anyone about the
planet Tralfamadore when his plane crash, The plane crashes and kills everyone on it but Billy and the

of the rewards, Employees has drive to work harder to get better money but has forgotten to put their

public audience is there to help students get their ideas out into the public to help express their
message. Projected audience gives the writer a direction to head in when writing a paper. This allows
them to conduct their content and put it in order so that it best reaches their targeted audience. This
allows the writer to get constructive feedback on the direction he is heading with his work. Textual
audience is the complex part of writing, making sure that it all flows together seemingly. Previous

Music As A Predictor For Personality
For years, music has been an important part of the lives of millions of people all over the world. Music
is one of the earliest forms of expressive art and is part of many cultures. It is used by all people of
different ages, ethnicities, and gender for many purposes. For many, music is a part of everyday life,
being used in social situations. For others, it may be used just as a way to unwind after a long,
stressful day, but can it be used to as a predictor for personality? Do people who experience high/low
levels of aggression and self esteem listen to particular genres? Psychologists have started to study
how music exactly can lead to an understanding on human behavior.
Over the past years, numerous researchers have shown interest in musical preferences and how they
relate to personality traits as well (Cattell Anderson, 1953; Dollinger, 1993). However, because of
changes in music and its lyrical content over time, music itself has become an issue of interest and
concern. Music and lyrical content have become gradually more explicit with references to drugs, sex,
and violence. The anti social themes overall have lead many adults, mostly parents of young children
and teens, to rally against it, especially heavy metal and rap. The anti social themes have also lead the
study of music s impact on emotion and behavior.
Statement of Problem
Despite the growing interest and concern, there has been limited research analyzing the relationship
between music, personality,

The fascinating novel, Elijah of Buxton, by Christopher Paul Curtis, is about an 11 year old boy who
was the first African American born free in the 1800s. Elijah went through some harsh times with his
family and his neighborhood folks. His friend was struggling with trying to get money back from the
Preacher, a thief who stole from him. With the hopes of buying his family out of slavery, Elijah s
friend asks him to help go to Michigan to find the Preacher and get the money back. On this journey,
Elijah sees what his parents had to go through. He witnesses slaves getting treated poorly and other
cruel acts. The book Elijah of Buxton is connected to three historical events; one of them is slavery.

Edna s Search For Identity In The Awakening
The Awakening
Theme:
Do not give into the pressures of society and search for your own identity
Edna lives in a society that expects women to only take care of children and be an obedient wife.
However, Edna feels trapped and does not want to be only limited to being a good wife. One day, she
meets a young man named Robert who helps Edna awaken and she gradually begins to want to search
for her own identity. Therefore, she has sexual awakenings with Alcee, so she can try to figure out
herself. In addition, Edna has another awakening due to her time with Adele and she tries to find her
identity by expressing herself through art in the Pigeon House.
Being an individual against society leads to rejection, loneliness, and isolation.
Edna Pontellier was the only woman in the Grand Isle to try to go against the rules of society which
was to be an obedient. She desired to find her individuality and become independent due to feeling

Difference between Community Service and Volunteering
Volunteers are not paid; not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless. Sherry
Anderson (Volunteering Quotes: Finest Quotes).
On average, when people think about community service, they assume that volunteering is just hours
we need to be able to graduate and that is it. Community service is more than just hours; community
service is based on the acts performed by someone with the purpose of helping or bringing benefits to
his or her community. People frequently compare community service as a punishment since it is often

Volunteering in your community helps solve many dilemmas in your community that descend through
the eyes of government and social agencies (Everything you ever wanted to know about volunteering).
Discussing about volunteering to teenagers should be the first step for a better life, since teenagers are
the future of tomorrow and they will leave a mark from yesterday. Volunteering has been such an
important matter, that schools in many countries around the world established that 12th grade students
will need certain hours of community service in order to graduate. But the frequent answers all the
schools are getting are Why do I need to volunteer? I have better things to do! What people are
forgetting is that each one of them is part of a community, a community that is not perfect and that the
government sometimes forgets about their problems or needs, because obviously the government
needs to take care of other things that require more attention. People are not only helping others, they
are also helping themselves (Volunteering). Volunteering is not a new subject now, but people did not
perceive it before because as time goes by, volunteering is becoming more and more popular since
each year more people volunteer. Volunteering began around the early 19th century since America was

The Importance of Children s Play
The importance of play in young children cannot be stressed enough. It has be shown numerous times
through research the benefits that play can have. When you think of children playing it brings a smile
to your face. The importance of play definitely plays a big role in a child s life especially between the

Abstract In 1979 Nobel prize laureate and the co discoverer of the structure of DNA called for a
precise method to gain control over specific classes of neurones leaving the others more of less
unaltered which will allow us to understand more about the profoundly mysterious brain. This was the
first articulated idea of optogenetics, which would lead to the development of one of the most exciting
areas of neuroscience. In 2005 Karl Desseroth and Ed Boyden publishes a paper detailing a single

Intervention For Smoking Cessation Of Smoking
Intervention for Smoking Cessation
The most important intervention for this patient is to quit smoking. This would be very difficult for a
person who smoke for more than 20 years to quit. I would explain to the patient that the best way to
treat her emphysema is to stop smoking. First of all, I will assess on what this patient knows about
smoking cessation. Some smokers may not have a correct information and positive attitude about quit
smoking, which could be the reasons that contribute to the failure of previous attempts of quitting. I
would explain to her that tobacco smoking is responsible for 90 percent of all cases of COPD,
including emphysema (MacGill, 2015). Normally, when particles enter the lung, these particles lands
on a thin layer of mucus inside the lungs. The little hairs, called cilia, help to move mucus and the
particles from the lungs upward toward the throat. This process allows the mucus to be expelled or
swallowed (American Thoracic Society, 2015). Coughing is another way the lungs protect themselves
from irritants in bronchial tubes (American Thoracic Society, 2015). Inhalation of smoke, over times,
will destroy cilia, and they no longer remove mucus effectively. Subsequently, mucus accumulates
inside the lungs causing irritation and coughing (American Thoracic Society, 2015). The most
effective way to stop coughing is to stop smoking.
I would also point out that the patient is developing a condition called Leukoplakia as evidence by

through mobile apps which account for about 90% of mobile activity, whereas browsers only account

Biography of Andrew Carnegie Essay
Biography of Andrew Carnegie
Andrew Carnegie was born into a poor working class family living in the town of Dunfermline,
Scotland, in 1835. His father operated a small hand looming business located in the family home. The
Carnegies was literate, well read, and active in the politics of the day. It was a time of repression of the
Scottish worker by the Government, the employers, and the culture. Rebellious in thought as well as
actively participating in protests was part of the Carnegie family life style. He was exposed to all of
Scotland s dramatic portrayal of Scottish Heroes. He learned the poetry and songs that were filled with
the heroics of the underdog and their fight for equality.

He had been offered free tickets which enabled him to become acquainted with Shakespeare s plays.
While other young men lives were filled with work, pleasure, and home, Andrew s life was filled with
work, school, drama, and reading. He took advantage of the chance to study in a private library and
then he encouraged other young men to join him. He said, I knew nothing of the base and vile. I had
always been brought in contact with good people. This was the world in which I dwelt with my
companions, all of them refined young men, striving to improve themselves and become respected
citizens (Carnegie 65). I went to school at night and read history and classics on weekends. Every step
of the way factory drudge, office boy, messenger, I pushed myself hard, mastered my duties,
maximized opportunities, and waited with self assurance the arrival of the next chance .
There are many theories on why this Scottish immigrant succeeded in the land of opportunity . It
couldn t be based solely on the fact he spoke English and was literate. He was one of among
thousands of other Scottish immigrants who came to this country searching for economic opportunity.
Louis Hacker expounds on one theory on what drove him,
Because of his father s failure, because of his deep devotion to a mother . . . perhaps more because of
the unequal society from which he had come and which had squandered talent so stupidly, Carnegie

Social Control In Hedda Gabler
Henrik Isben s Hedda Gabler is a problem play that deals with several social conflicts that a newlywed
woman experiences when we arrives back to her home town from her honeymoon. As the daughter of
General Gabler, Hedda Gabler has been born into and grown accustom to being at the top of her town
s social hierarchy. Because of Hedda s social status and undeniable beauty she has the ability to
control and manipulate those around her but to a certain extent. The time the play was set in, women
did not have a lot of freedom to do anything outside of getting married, having children and attending
to the house. Hedda did not fit this mould that was created for women of that time. She was not very

Hedda desperately needs to believe that the expectations of her society do not control ever person who
dwells within it. Eilert Løvborg serves as living proof to Hedda that a person can live their live the
way they choose to without conforming to the norms of society and she is attracted to as well as
secretly envies him for that eminence. Hedda sits at the top of the social ladder she has a long way
down if she slips up and falls below what is socially accepted and expected from her. And for that
reason she is deathly afraid of a scandal. Eilert Løvborg on the other hand, had the courage to live life
after his own mind (Ibsen 298). He led a life that was considered less than respectable in the eyes of
his community, consisting of alcohol abuse and scandalous visits to the towns women s boudoirs.
Eilert Løvborg had little self control over his actions once he started drinking and would go on binges
for days at a time. To Hedda, Eilert Løvborg was daring brave because he was able to do the very
thing that she was very afraid of which was to live life carefree from the judgments of her society. She
also enjoyed the power and control she possessed over him. When Eilert Løvborg tells her the truth
about his manuscript he confesses that Thea Elvsted has inspired him to lead nobler lifestyle: I ve lost
all desire for that [old] kind of lifestyle. I don t want to start it again, not now. It s the courage and

The Decline And Fall Of The Romanov Dynasty
The Romanov Dynasty reigned over the nation of Russia from the year 1613 until its inevitable fall in
1917. Outlined below includes a few of the significant factors which contributed to decline and the
eventual fall of this 300 year dynasty. These momentous factors range from tsar Nicholas II, the last
tsar of Russia s autocratic rule, his refusal to meet the demands for reform, and above all his
incompetency as a leader.
On the 20th October 1894 Nicholas II ascended the throne as tsar of Russia. He idolised the concept of
continuing to rule Russia under the autocratic system, in the same way his father and predecessor
Alexander III had done so. However, Nicholas lacked the qualities and characters of the autocratic
style of leadership. The

International Aid Or Development Assistance Essay
International aid or development assistance is defined in several ways. The Organization for Economic
Co operation and Development (OECD) defines international aid to include grants and loans to
developing countries and territories which are: (i) with the promotion of economic development and
welfare in the recipient country as the main objective and (ii) at concessional financial terms (i.e.
conveys a grant element of at least 25 percent). This definition is commonly accepted, however; some
analysts include loans from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as well as the World Bank
(concessional or not) in their definitions. The history of international development aid can be tracked
down to antiquity, however, the modern era saw international development aid begin to evolve in the
19th and early 20th century (Kapur, 2003) but the true expansion of international development aid was
in the aftermath of the Second World War. The most significant events in accordance with the
establishment of international development aid were the creation of The United Nations, The Marshall
Plan, and The Bretton Woods conference that established the World Bank and the IMF. The modern
manifestation of international development aid is extremely widespread. There are countless
international organizations and governments present which all contribute to international development
aid as it is a moral responsibility, however, what is the effectiveness of the aid they provide? This

The Thus Spoke Zarathustra By The Nineteenth Century
In the Thus Spoke Zarathustra , written by the 19th century philosopher Nietzsche, we are presented
with many sermons that are structure similar to parables from the Lutheran Bible. These sermons are
given to us by the main character, Zarathustra, on our quest to find the overman (ubermench).
Zarathustra uses many characters to present stories about the flaws of humanity and how we are to get
better. In Thus Spoke Zarathustra , Zarathustra uses the character of an ass (donkey) that was first
presented to us through the sermon of Talking to the kings and plays a major role in the later novel.
The Ass is used as an idol that many of Zarathustra s guests praise as a God. The utilization of the Ass
as an idol of worship is Nietzsche s criticism on how Christians worship their God. In the sermon of
Talking to two kings , Zarathustra hears two men approaching where he was dwelling. He called out to
them and realized that they were two kings searching for the overman. Zarathustra introduces the Ass
by yelling out to the kings saying, Strange! Strange! How does this fit together? Two kings I see and
only one ass! (356 p2). The kings reply to Zarathustra and when he is presents himself to them, the
kings are it total dismay. They explain that they are looking for the overman for he is the one higher
than the lords. Zarathustra is pleased by their desire to find the overman. The kings then told
Zarathustra that they plan to convey the Ass to the overman. During the time

The battles for Okinawa, Wake and Guam all were ample testament to the Japanese willingness to die
in the face of overwhelming odds. The kamikaze was a
perfect example of the Japanese battle attitude. Japanese pilots would strap themselves into planes
loaded with explosives and fly them into American ships. By the war amp;#8217;s conclusion the
Japanese kamikaze attacks had sunk 3 aircraft carriers, damaged 285 craft and sunk a total of 34. The
Japanese also did well in increasing support for the war effort. amp;#8220;Both scientist and
publicists were in fact powerful instruments inflaming popular hatred against the democratic countries
and in regimenting the people into blindly supporting the war of aggrandizement (Ferrell 16). ; This
resolve would only have been strengthened had American and Russian forces tried to invade Japan.
This almost suicidal type of fighting would have resulted in a tremendous amount of casualties for
both sides. American casualties alone were projected at 500,000. The amount of deaths caused by an
invasion would easily dwarfed those of the atomic bombings (Purcell 82).
Air power offered American forces a method of remaining relatively unscathed against the fanatical

Ask a manager of 35, 25 or even 15 years ago what their Organization s Behavioral patterns were or

Organizational Behavior (OB) was not a part of the business world in those days. The idea that a

Robbins notes in his text that the previous 3 generations, while similar in some respects, held distinct
differences in their values (p.130 2). Organizational behavior is a byproduct of the times. The workers
adapted to their organization and grew with it (1940 s and 50 s). As time went on a shift towards
quality of life, non conforming, autonomy and loyalty to one s own values became prevalent (1960 s
and 70 s). Another shift occurred in the mid 70 s. The value system moved towards ambition, loyalty
to career, hardworking, and the desire for success and achievement. This period lasted till about the
mid 80 s when another shift moved us towards the value system commonly held today of flexibility,
value to relationships, desire for leisure time and overall job satisfaction. Robbins classified these four
stages as follows: Protestant work ethic, Existential, Pragmatic, and Generation X (p.131). We can see
that what worked in the 50 s in terms of how an organization operated is probably not going to be as
effective in today s organizations. Whether it s the Protestant work ethic of the 1940 s and 50 s or it s
Generation X of today, the picture should be clear. We need to know what our workers value, how
they feel and change with them so as to keep our organization on the cutting edge of productivity and
profitability.

The term veteran can refer to somebody who has had a great deal of experience with a trade, but for

The Horse Dealer s Daughter, By D. H. Lawrence
Entertainment versus Art
Literary and commercial fiction are the two types of fiction that Authors all over the world present to
readers. Commercial fiction always entertains readers and this is the point, to provide a story that
anyone can enjoy. Literary fiction does not offer a clear way for one to understand and literary fiction
is not created to be understood. Literary fiction makes readers do all the work and find meanings all

In The Horse Dealer s Daughter, by D.H. Lawrence, the literary nature is evident early on in the story.
Literary fiction does not have a likeable main character or protagonist; in the story one doesn t know
who the main character is and of the choices none are likable. All of the brothers in the story make fun
of the sister so one wouldn t like any of those choices, even with the sister she has no obvious
characteristics nor does she perform any actions for her to be considered likeable She would have
been good looking, save for the impressive fixity of her fact, bull dog, as her brothers called it.
(Lawrence 507) Literary fiction also does not have a clear theme or purpose; the story doesn t have
any lesson to be taught or point to be drawn, however it is simply telling a story. Literary fiction leads
the audience to do the thinking for themselves, nothing is clear cut or obvious. The ending of the story
leaves one confused and gives one the option to choose what ending the story has But she only sobbed

Laughter In Medieval Medicine
The expression, laughter is the best medicine, may be more true than many people think. Even
medieval medicine centered on humor. However, the humor of medieval times did not just come from
the court jester; and, even then, people knew humor was important to their health. One curious fact is
that the word humor in medieval times was tied to the four fluids of the body blood, phlegm, choler,
and black bile (Krsywicka). The people believed all these should be in balance in the person as well as
in their physical world (Cameron, qtd. by Krzywicka). Today most people do not associate humor to
body fluids, but they do associate it with laughter. As medicine has advanced over the years, doctors

A Study On Turner Syndrome
Turner syndrome, also known as Monosomy X, is caused by the deletion of the second X chromosome
in females. This can be a partial deletion or a complete deletion. It is caused by a random error called
nondisjunction, which is the failure of sister chromatids to separate during or after meiosis (Biology
Online, 2008). This can lead to an abnormal amount of chromosomes. In this case, it leads to an
abnormality in the sex chromosomes leaving the woman with one functioning X chromosome. While
the specific genes that cause Turner syndrome are unknown, researchers have identified one gene
called SHOX that is important for bone development and growth (National Library of Medicine,
2013). It is believed that a missing SHOX gene is the reason behind the female s short stature and
skeletal abnormalities. Due to the random nature of this syndrome, it is usually not inherited or passed
down. The loss or mutation of the X chromosome is spontaneous; therefore there is no real pattern of
inheritance. Also, it is very unlikely for a woman with Turner syndrome to pass it down to her
daughter. Women with Turner syndrome have one functioning X chromosome. If the woman does
become pregnant, she will only be able to pass down the functioning X to her child, meaning the
daughter will not have Turner syndrome unless she goes through the same random mutation.
According to the Turner Syndrome Society (2016), woman with Turner syndrome can experience
signs and symptoms such as short stature, a

A reoccurring theme is the idea of iniquity. Iniquity is defied as a lack of fairness or justice. Rosa park

northern Europe, but it was also the gateway through which the Europe of the barbarians came to
renew their links with their lost Mediterranean past . Arabs were able to mark their presence on the
Iberian Peninsula that contains Spain and Portugal, by expressing themselves through architecture,
food, and teachings, along with many other things. Arabs replaced the Roman system. They
introduced the cultivation of sugar cane, rice, cotton and the palm tree. Arabs didn t force conversion
to Islam on people, but they did influence the region s people through the teaching of science,
medicine and astronomy. Arabs symbolized their religion through architecture, knowledge, philosophy
and medicine. They constructed buildings with Islamic worship facilities, and they treated these places
as a place of worship and they did religious practices. One of the most recognized examples of Arab
influenced architectures was The Great Mosque of Córdoba . It was known for its notable worship
features. Each feature explained how a task should be done and by whom. The facilities demonstrated
the full task of worship and prayer that Muslims do. These features included the prayer niches and
prayer hall, each characterized by its unique

Sociological Themes In The Film Erin Brockovich
Erin Brockovich (2000) is a film written by Susannah Grant and directed by Steven Soderbergh.
Based on a successful lawsuit by an environmental lawyer of the same name against the Pacific Gas
and Electric Company (PG E) of California, this film covers a wide range of popular cultural and
sociological themes. It addresses issues such as lack of formal training and opportunity to capable
individuals, stereotyping of women and the struggle for justice which are some of the most prevalent
sociological and pop cultural issues in America. The story is structured linearly and presents the
struggle of the protagonist Erin who is a mother of three and is struggling to make ends meet. After a
motor accident which she is not responsible for, she convinces ... Show more content on

She is actually a complex character which the filmmakers use to highlight various concepts of popular
and sociological culture. Firstly she is shown to be a woman who is judged by those around her
because of how she looks and how she has a knack for behaving erratically. She is even judged by the
women who she works with as they consider her nothing short of White Trash because of how she
dresses and because of the mess her personal life is in. Secondly, they construct the concept of an
individual s capability regardless of their gender and class through Erin s character. She does not have
formal training of being a lawyer yet she is able to understand the technicalities of law based on her
own intelligence and capabilities. Thirdly, they handle the struggle of proving yourself despite being a
woman in the 1990 s. According to the US census of 1990, despite starting to become more
professionally aware women occupied clerical and administrative support positions in the 1990 s ( We
The American Women , 1993). They were underrepresented in holding professional titles such as
doctors, lawyers etc. Erin is an antithesis to this concept. Even though she begs for a secretarial
position at the beginning of the film, she proves her mettle as having the potential to become a lawyer
by the end of the

The Importance Of The Economic Crisis
During the first couple of years following the economic crisis of 2008, the media was full of stories
featuring Americans nearing retirement age whose 401(k) accounts had lost a significant amount of
money. For example, in 2009, ( removed HTML ) CBS ( removed HTML ) interviewed several people
in their 50s and 60s who had seen their life savings reduced by 50 percent or more. Many expressed
their disappointment that the dream retirement they had anticipated for so many years would never
materialize if they were even able to retire at all. Millions of Americans lost trillions of dollars when
their investments tanked. However, Americans are still losing several trillion dollars from their 401(k)
accounts when they change jobs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Companies are not out to sabotage the retirements of former employees. If you consider the matter
from the company s perspective, there is a certain logic involved. A 401(k) is a benefit offered to
employees, but once a worker leaves, the company likely does not want to keep incurring the expenses
involved to maintain the accounts for former employees. Because the Department of Labor guidelines
instruct employers to prevent exposing the money of employees to risky investments, employers
simply choose a safe investment such as an IRA.
Rolling over a 401(k) can be a complicated matter. Many people find that the logistics are too difficult
for them to manage, so they either cash out the account or end up collecting a number of small dollar
401(k) accounts during their working years. Instead of their retirement savings growing, they are
disappearing.
The primary issue is the failure to deploy adequate technology. In many countries, a central pension
registry allows employers and workers to track where the money is and to whom it belongs. Often, the
system proactively rolls accounts into a centralized program that leverages scale to help produce better
returns. When considering who should be responsible for a pension clearinghouse, the obvious
candidate is the Social Security Administration. After all, this is the agency that tracks every
individual s earnings to determine their retirement and disability payments. Unfortunately, the agency
has

Pharmacology is the study of the effects drugs have and how they exert them. Drugs can be
administered enteral or parenteral. [1] Enteral refers to any form of administration that involves the
alimentary tract. The four enteral routes of administration include the mouth, sublingual, buccal and
rectal. Parenteral refers to routes of administration outside of or beside of the alimentary tract. The
parenteral route includes intravascular (IV), Intramuscular (IM) and subcutaneous (SC) routes of
administration. The parenteral routes are used for drugs that are poorly absorbed or that are unstable in
the GI tract. The parenteral routes are used in unconscious patients or when a fast response is needed

The passage of the drugs is not affected by lipid solubility or pH. [2]
Proximal tubular secretion:
The drug that do not enter the glomerular filtrate leaves the glomeruli though efferent arterioles. The
arterioles divide to form a capillary plexus surrounding the nephric lumen in the proximal tubule. The
occurrence of secretions mainly occurs in the proximal tubule. This happens by active transport, one
for anions and one for cations. Active transport requires energy. The two systems have low specificity
and can transport many compounds. [2]
Distal tubular reabsorption:
The concentration of the drug will exceed that of the perivascular space due to the increase in
concentration as the drug moves toward the distal convoluted tubule. The drug may diffuse back into
the circulation if it is uncharged. In attempt to minimize the diffusing back into circulation, the pH of
the urine may be manipulated to increase the ionised from of the drug. [2]
Below is a diagram to show renal elimination.
[4]
People with kidney problems/disease must have the dosage of drugs administered adjusted as they
have a lower glomerular filtration rate than those without kidney problems/disease. People with renal
dysfunction and those on dialysis are often given opioids for pain relief. Adjusting the dosage for a
therapeutic effect without overdosing is difficult for patient with renal dysfunction and those on
dialysis. Giving opioids to the patient

Effects Of American Imperialism
The domination of a country s or region s political, cultural, or economic life by one country is called
imperialism. (Esler, page. 632) European imperialism began in the 1800s. European nations won
empires in the Americas after1492, established colonies in India and Southeast Asia, and gained
toeholds on the coast of Africa and China. Despite these gains, between 1500 and 1800, Europe had
little influence on the lives of the peoples of China, India or Africa. (Esler, page.632) Then the
Europeans industrialized and believe western cultures were superior to all other. They felt the other
countries were inferior to them and began the spread of westernization. There were many causes of
imperialism. A major cause of imperialism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They applied Darwin s ideas about natural selection and the survival of the fittest to human societies
and nations. (Esler, page. 633) Natural selection is when individuals or organisms that are better suited
to their environment survive a reproduce the most successfully. European believed they were superior
to all other countries. They set out to spread western cultures and millions were robbed of their own
culture.
The British East India Company gained trading rights on the Mughal empire. The company expanded
its influence; it controlled three fifths of India by the mid 1800s, as the Mughal power declined. India
was not able to unite because there were too many languages and cultures. Even though many effects
of the East India Company were negative, many positive effects came out of it too. The East India
Company s main goal in India was to make money, and leading officials often got very rich. At the
same time, the company did work to improve roads, preserve peace, and reduce banditry. (Esler, pg.
633) British officials introduced western education, pressed for social change, missionaries tried to
convert Indians to Christianity, tried to end slavery, the caste system, and improve the position of
women within the family.
Indians resisted British domination. British hurt the business class, by not allowing them in large
scaling manufacturing. They also kept educated Indians out of high posts. Some British laws violated

The Centres For Disease Control Released A Report Essay
Plan/Problem
On September 24th 2014, the Centres for Disease Control released a report stating the United States of
America has one of the highest infant mortality rates in the developed world, with a rate of 6.1 infant
deaths per 1000 live births.
Sarah C P Williams from the John Hopkins University in the United States, published a report for the
Stanford University School of Medicine identifying that that poor infant survival rates in the United
States are intrinsically linked to high rates of preterm births those that occur when a woman is
between 22 and 37 weeks pregnant, rather than the full term of 37 41 weeks.
When a fetus has experienced a gestation period of 37 weeks, it s organ systems are defined mature
and are able to support and sustain life.
When a fetus experiences a shortened period of gestation, their organ systems are underdeveloped.
They do not have fully formed lungs, their nervous system and brain connection are not established
and their senses are still in the process of maturing. By all accounts, the fetus is fragile and is
unprepared to support and sustain life in the extra uterine environment.
Baby Centre, a digital parenting and pregnancy resource supplies a gestational timeline and outlook
for premature babies. It states that
almost all infants born earlier than 28 weeks require oxygen and mechanical assistance to support their
breathing. Infants at this age are unable to breathe while simultaneously sucking and swallowing so

Registering To Vote
Voting is perhaps the single most important activity a citizen of the United States of America can
engage in, many have fought and died to ensure this right is extended to every citizen. Voting is the
vehicle through which the collective voice is heard, and the means through which meaningful change
can occur. As such it is imperative that every citizen that is legally able to vote be registered, only
registered voters are allowed to cast a vote come election time. While preparing for this assignment
this writer took a moment to check if she was a registered voter, she found that she was not. This
condition was immediately rectified.
The process for registering to vote is a fairly simple one, particularly if the intended voter has access

The Importance Of Chons
In Egyptian mythology, Chons (alternately Khensu, Khons, Khonsu or Khonshu) is an ancient lunar
deity, from before formal structure was given to a pantheon. His name reflects the fact that the Moon
(referred to as Iah in Egyptian) travels across the night sky, for it means The Wanderer, and also had
the titles Embracer, Pathfinder, and Defender, as he was thought to watch over night travelers. As the
god of light in the night, Chons was invoked to protect against wild animals, increase male virility,
and to aid with healing. It was said that when Chons caused the crescent moon to shine, women
conceived, cattle became fertile, and all nostrils and every throat was filled with fresh air.
Chons can also be understood to mean king s placenta, and consequently in early times, he was
considered to slay the king s (i.e. the pharaoh s) enemies, and extract their innards for the king s use,
metaphorically creating something resembling a placenta for the king. This bloodthirsty aspect leads
him to be referred to, in such as the Pyramid texts, as the (one who) lives on hearts. He also became
associated with more literal placentas, becoming seen as a deification of the royal placenta, and so a
god involved with childbirth. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Native Family Versus the Dominant Culture in American...
The Native Family Versus the Dominant Culture in American Horse by Louise Erdrich The current
interest in what has come to be called multicultural literature has focused critical attention on defining
its most salient characteristic: authoring a text which appeals to at least two different cultural codes.
(Wiget 258) Louise Erdrich says she s an emissary of the between world. (Bacon) I have one foot on
tribal lands and one foot in middle class life. Her stories unfold where native family and dominant
culture clash yet rarely blend, a kaleidoscope of uneasy pieces. The reader becomes the mediator, an
observer on the edges as two cultural codes (Wiget 258) collide. She creates dyads: shards of
interaction as identities reflect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Buddy had been knocked awake out of hiding in a washing machine while herds of policemen with
dogs searched through a large building with many tiny rooms. . . . Tss, his mother mumbled, half
awake, Wasn t nothing. But Buddy sat up after her breathing went deep again, and he watched. There
was something coming and he knew it. ( American Horse 196) The reader has sound and visual cues
to determine Albertine s condition. Is she sleeping or in a stupor? Later the social worker alludes to
Albertine as an alcoholic. [But notice that the child only speaks of the sweet scent of powder on his
mother, not of alcohol] Buddy is sitting on the edge along with the reader. When Erdrich changed the
Buddy character to Redford for a chapter in The Bingo Palace, she included the words that he s been
knocked out of a dream where he was hiding in a washing machine. (Bingo Palace 171) providing
more insight into how he gained his surrealistic visions. Buddy has a picture in his mind: It was a
large thing made of metal with many barbed hooks, points, and drag chains on it, something like a
giant potato peeler that rolled out of the sky, scraping clouds down with it and jabbing or crushing
everything that lay in its path on the ground. ( American Horse 197) In Bingo Palace, it becomes,
something like Grandma Zelda s potato peeler providing a concrete connection to Buddy s

Civil Rights Movement
Introduction: This paper is about the blacks wanting equal rights like the whites have. Then everything
gets out of hand. The fire truck hoses get used on people, the k 9 dogs go attack the people, people go
to jail. King goes to jail and writes a report and gets out of jail. Finally, Birmingham takes down the
blacks only and whites only signs from the bathroom and drinking fountains. Blacks now can use any
bathroom and drinking fountain they want. The SCLC launched Project C (for Birmingham), April 3,
1963. On April 6, police arrested forty five protesters going from Sixteenth Street Baptist Church to
city hall. The next day, more people were arrested. Due to this happening two police dogs attacked a
nineteen year old. Judge W.A. Jenkins, Jr., made an order preventing one hundred thirty three of the
city s civil rights leaders, to organize demonstrations. But the Project C plan got King arrested on
April 12. After a few hours King told his staff,he didn t know what to do and that something had to
change in Birmingham. He said he didn t know if he could make enough money if any at all to get
people out of jail. But, he did agree to go to jail with them since he couldn t get the money. King was
arrested and put in solitary confinement. In jail he read an ad in the Birmingham News, that called him
a troublemaker. He responded to the ad,his response was eventually sent to the newspaper saying that
it was a Letter from Birmingham Jail from King. His

The Legal Profession Of A Lawyer
On December 8th, after a slight struggle to conduct an interview, I was able to get in contact with
Matthew Resch for an interview over the phone, through the help of my classmate Selene. Matthew is
currently an in house counsel. He is required to serve a wide variety of legal matters for the company.
I was happy when I heard this because coincidencedently I also hope to pursue a career in corporate
law. However prior to being an in house counsel he practiced law at a private firm for several years.
Because of this he has a fairly large view of the legal field, and thus understands the pros and cons of
many aspects of the legal profession. Initially I began the interview with some basic questions that
anyone in the legal profession would be able to answer. In my first question I asked Matthew, what
made him want to become a lawyer. He responded by telling me that he wanted to be able to help
people. More specifically, he thought that by becoming a lawyer he would have a figurative toolbelt
that he could use to help people in need of legal assistance. There are a lot of reasons that someone
shouldn t become a lawyer, but I thought that this was actually one of the noble reasons. Next, I asked
him, if law school adequately prepared him to practice law in his field. He responded by telling me
that any law school will get you part of the way there, but none of them will make you completely
prepared for the first client that you need to handle. One important thing

  • 2. Essay on Censorship in Television and Radio Censorship in Television and Radio For our group project we, group 6, decided to focus our attention on censorship in television and on the radio. We showed most of the attention to the Janet Jackson incident in Super Bowl 38 when looking at television, and for radio, focused on the FCC and disc jockeys like Howard Stern. Here are the television articles as done by three of our group members. If there is a single most important event that happened in television that caused major ramifications, it would be the Janet Jackson s wardrobe malfunction during the halftime show at Super Bowl 38. The white house supports these ideas saying This legislation will make broadcast television and radio more suitable for family viewing by giving the FCC the authority to impose meaningful penalties on broadcasters tat air obscene or indecent material over the public airwaves . The television has responded to the scrutiny that they have been put under, not by rebelling, but complying with these new rules and censoring themselves. For starters Victoria s Secret cancelled its annual fashion show, on television, this year. Fox is trying to clean up its act by employing people to monitor its star reality show, American Idol , as well as other reality shows. Comcast Corporation told Congress that it will increase its efforts to assist parents in choosing the right programming for their children. In an interview with Survivor host Jeff Probst said that the producers were told to enlarge the digital blur over Richard Hatch, who spent part of his time on the show naked. NBC planned to show a woman s exposed breasts on ER, but from pressure from their affiliates the scene was edited. ABC also planed on showing a racy sex scene on their show NYPD Blue, but because the show was played before 10:00 in Central and Mountain Time the scene was darkened to show less. An economic system is slackly defined as country s plan for its services, goods produced, and the exact way in which its economic plan is carried out. There are three types of economic systems exist, they are command economy, market economy, and mixed economy. Command economy is also sometimes called planned economy. Market leads to complete effectiveness bringing about the best possible distribution of a country s resources in a perfect world. This would only happen in a state of equilibrium and there is a unique price for every commodity. But in a realistic world which is imperfect by nature, prices are never at equilibrium and very unstable depending upon the vagaries of the market forces. This generally harms people living below the poverty line. It is impossible for them to pay high prices in cases of demand shortage. Thus, the free market model is not a viable option in developing countries which has a large number of poor. Besides, producers are aim to minimize profit and maximize rent of production. Examples of countries that are using this economy system are Hong Kong, USA, and UK. Many developing countries like India and China are moving towards totally free market economy. The command economy is government directed. The market forces have very little say in such an economy. There is no private property. On the other hand, a command economy aims at using all available resources for developing either in advertising or marketing. In order to ensure that the required inputs are available, the state would probably conduct some form of input output analysis. This would be very difficult for a person who smoke for more than 20 years to quit. I would explain to the patient that the best way to treat her emphysema is to stop smoking. First of all, I will assess on what this patient knows about smoking cessation. Some smokers may not have a correct information and positive attitude about quit smoking, which could be the reasons that contribute to the failure of previous attempts of quitting. I would explain to her that tobacco smoking is responsible for 90 percent of all cases of COPD, including emphysema (MacGill, 2015). Normally, when particles enter the lung, these particles lands on a thin layer of mucus inside the lungs. The little hairs, called cilia, help to move mucus and the particles from the lungs upward toward the throat. This process allows the mucus to be expelled or swallowed (American Thoracic Society, 2015). Coughing is another way the lungs protect themselves from irritants in bronchial tubes (American Thoracic Society, 2015). Inhalation of smoke, over times, will destroy cilia, and they no longer remove mucus effectively. Subsequently, mucus accumulates inside the lungs causing irritation and coughing (American Thoracic Society, 2015). The most effective way to stop coughing is to stop smoking. The Thus Spoke Zarathustra By The Nineteenth Century In the Thus Spoke Zarathustra , written by the 19th century philosopher Nietzsche, we are presented with many sermons that are structure similar to parables from the Lutheran Bible. These sermons are given to us by the main character, Zarathustra, on our quest to find the overman (ubermench). Zarathustra uses many characters to present stories about the flaws of humanity and how we are to get better. In Thus Spoke Zarathustra , Zarathustra uses the character of an ass (donkey) that was first presented to us through the sermon of Talking to the kings and plays a major role in the later novel. The Ass is used as an idol that many of Zarathustra s guests praise as a God. The utilization of the Ass as an idol of worship is Nietzsche s criticism on how Christians worship their God. In the sermon of Talking to two kings , Zarathustra hears two men approaching where he was dwelling. He called out to them and realized that they were two kings searching for the overman. Zarathustra introduces the Ass by yelling out to the kings saying, Strange! Strange! How does this fit together? Two kings I see and only one ass! (356 p2). The kings reply to Zarathustra and when he is presents himself to them, the kings are it total dismay. They explain that they are looking for the overman for he is the one higher than the lords. As time went on a shift towards quality of life, non conforming, autonomy and loyalty to one s own values became prevalent (1960 s and 70 s). Another shift occurred in the mid 70 s. The value system moved towards ambition, loyalty to career, hardworking, and the desire for success and achievement. This period lasted till about the mid 80 s when another shift moved us towards the value system commonly held today of flexibility, value to relationships, desire for leisure time and overall job satisfaction. Robbins classified these four stages as follows: Protestant work ethic, Existential, Pragmatic, and Generation X (p.131). • 34. A Study On Turner Syndrome Turner syndrome, also known as Monosomy X, is caused by the deletion of the second X chromosome in females. This can be a partial deletion or a complete deletion. It is caused by a random error called nondisjunction, which is the failure of sister chromatids to separate during or after meiosis (Biology Online, 2008). This can lead to an abnormal amount of chromosomes. In this case, it leads to an abnormality in the sex chromosomes leaving the woman with one functioning X chromosome. While the specific genes that cause Turner syndrome are unknown, researchers have identified one gene called SHOX that is important for bone development and growth (National Library of Medicine, 2013). It is believed that a missing SHOX gene is the reason behind the female s short stature and skeletal abnormalities. Due to the random nature of this syndrome, it is usually not inherited or passed down. The loss or mutation of the X chromosome is spontaneous; therefore there is no real pattern of inheritance. Also, it is very unlikely for a woman with Turner syndrome to pass it down to her daughter. Women with Turner syndrome have one functioning X chromosome. If the woman does become pregnant, she will only be able to pass down the functioning X to her child, meaning the daughter will not have Turner syndrome unless she goes through the same random mutation. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Companies are not out to sabotage the retirements of former employees. If you consider the matter from the company s perspective, there is a certain logic involved. A 401(k) is a benefit offered to employees, but once a worker leaves, the company likely does not want to keep incurring the expenses involved to maintain the accounts for former employees. Because the Department of Labor guidelines instruct employers to prevent exposing the money of employees to risky investments, employers simply choose a safe investment such as an IRA. Rolling over a 401(k) can be a complicated matter. Many people find that the logistics are too difficult for them to manage, so they either cash out the account or end up collecting a number of small dollar 401(k) accounts during their working years. Instead of their retirement savings growing, they are disappearing. The primary issue is the failure to deploy adequate technology. In many countries, a central pension registry allows employers and workers to track where the money is and to whom it belongs. Often, the system proactively rolls accounts into a centralized program that leverages scale to help produce better returns. When considering who should be responsible for a pension clearinghouse, the obvious candidate is the Social Security Administration. • 45. The Importance Of Chons In Egyptian mythology, Chons (alternately Khensu, Khons, Khonsu or Khonshu) is an ancient lunar deity, from before formal structure was given to a pantheon. His name reflects the fact that the Moon (referred to as Iah in Egyptian) travels across the night sky, for it means The Wanderer, and also had the titles Embracer, Pathfinder, and Defender, as he was thought to watch over night travelers. As the god of light in the night, Chons was invoked to protect against wild animals, increase male virility, and to aid with healing. It was said that when Chons caused the crescent moon to shine, women conceived, cattle became fertile, and all nostrils and every throat was filled with fresh air. Chons can also be understood to mean king s placenta, and consequently in early times, he was considered to slay the king s (i.e. the pharaoh s) enemies, and extract their innards for the king s use, metaphorically creating something resembling a placenta for the king. He responded by telling me that he wanted to be able to help people. More specifically, he thought that by becoming a lawyer he would have a figurative toolbelt that he could use to help people in need of legal assistance. There are a lot of reasons that someone shouldn t become a lawyer, but I thought that this was actually one of the noble reasons.
