Banners : Week 1
1. Firstly when creating the two banners I laid out a very similar design to the one I had created in the planning stage of my work, I did this by creating two areas of block colour,
blue at the top and white at the bottom. The next step was to then create a group of brushes that look like gemstones/minerals. I did this on a separate document that was
500 x 500 pixels, when I had drawn the right shape I set the background as transparent, so that it wasn't in the brush. I then used theses brushes to outline an area around
where the title would be on the banner, I used different brush angles and sizes so that their was some variation. I used a very simple font as the title as a place holder.
2. After this I decided that the design needed a different layout as I did not like the one I was going with. I kept two blocked out areas, except I shrunk them in height and moved
them away from the top and bottom of the banner. I also changed the colour of the area to a more vibrant blue, while also adding a white border to each, the border is clearer
in image three.
3. I then wanted to make the image look more intriguing so I have skewed both of the bars. I then changed the blue so that it didn't look as vibrant, this makes it appear more
professional.
4. I then added one of my images behind the bars, however quite a large part of the image was blocked by the bars, so I shrunk the bottom one and moved it up to the top, this
made the image far more visible.
5. I did not like this design as I did not think it appeared very professional, so I removed the image and one of the bars. I then changed the last bar to be a large dark block of blue
at the bottom, the only thing that I have left the same is the white border. I also changed the image to one that fit better, so I didn't have to skew the image to fit as much.
6. The final step was to add the text to the document talking about either the companies van visits or their showroom, I did this using the Bahnschrift font. I aligned all text so
that it was central on the page. I also used the burn and dodge tool to darken and brighten certain areas on the images, I used the burn tool to darken the areas at the edge of
the images and the dodge tool to brighten key points in the oto.
Flyer : Week 2
Day 1: I started the flyer by creating the back, I first blocked out the two separate areas that I will have on the flyer, the contact area and the information area. I used grey as the
contact colour and left the information area as white.
I also edited the background to have the correct appearance, I wanted it to have the gemstone patter that I had used on the banners before changing them. I started by using one of
the five different gem brushes and increased its scale and angle jitter, this made the pattern feel more random and unique while also keeping a professional look. I did the same with
the other gem brushes making sure they were all spread out in manner that didn’t look too clustered. I then lowered the opacity of the shapes so that they were not visible and
distracting.
I also added the company logo to the top left corner.
Day 2: Today I worked completely on adding text to the flyer. I added all of the companies contact information first, within the guides I had set up. The guides were set to be in three
columns with a margin between each. The white text is done in a typewriter font that contrasts heavily with the background whilst also working well to stand out and look unique. I
added headings above each of these columns so that it was clear what information each was, the headings are in a darker font that is less contrasting however is still readable
because it is bold.
When filling in the rest of the area I only used one column as I had more space so could spread the information out. I colour schemed this area, large bodies of text are all in a light
grey colour, as I think this looks really professional against white backgrounds. Headings are all in a dark blue with a small underline ( the blues code is #3b5465) , it is also in a larger
font size so that it is clear. I use this blue when highlighting key information. Then I used a light blue to represent a sub category, I also shrunk these headlines down to show it isn’t
as important.
Day 3: Today I finished off the flyer by creating the font cover, this was far simpler as I knew exactly what I wanted to create. I started by creating a solid blue background with white
text on it just using the companies name. I did this so that it fit in with the banners as they are also very minimalistic, I used exactly the same font and background colour. The only
difference with the font is that for this cover is that I used italics as I wanted it to appear more unique. The next step was to add a border around the title, this was so that there was a
more clear focal point on the cover, I also added an inner shadow to the box so that there is some depth to the cover. I then used the burn tool to add a shadow around the edge of
the entire cover, I used a brush to do this so that it looks natural, unlike if I had used a blending option which would have been too uniform.
The final step was to add a slightly hidden gem image to the cover, I used one of the gem bushes in the centre of the page, I then filled the centre of the gems in a different colour to
the outline, I then deleted the outline, this made the gem now look like a stencil. I then changed the colour to a dark blue so it was barley visible, and also added an inner shadow to
add depth to the shape.

I used grey as the contact colour and left the information area as white. I also edited the background to have the correct appearance, I wanted it to have the gemstone patter that I had used on the banners before changing them. I started by using one of the five different gem brushes and increased its scale and angle jitter, this made the pattern feel more random and unique while also keeping a professional look. I did the same with the other gem brushes making sure they were all spread out in manner that didn’t look too clustered. Day 2: Today I worked completely on adding text to the flyer. I added all of the companies contact information first, within the guides I had set up. Day 3: Today I finished off the flyer by creating the font cover, this was far simpler as I knew exactly what I wanted to create. I started by creating a solid blue background with white text on it just using the companies name. I did this so that it fit in with the banners as they are also very minimalistic, I used exactly the same font and background colour. The only difference with the font is that for this cover is that I used italics as I wanted it to appear more unique. The next step was to add a border around the title, this was so that there was a more clear focal point on the cover, I also added an inner shadow to the box so that there is some depth to the cover. I then used the burn tool to add a shadow around the edge of the entire cover, I used a brush to do this so that it looks natural, unlike if I had used a blending option which would have been too uniform. The final step was to add a slightly hidden gem image to the cover, I used one of the gem bushes in the centre of the page, I then filled the centre of the gems in a different colour to the outline, I then deleted the outline, this made the gem now look like a stencil. I then changed the colour to a dark blue so it was barley visible, and also added an inner shadow to add depth to the shape.
