Complications Of The Transcontinental Railroad
Do you ever wonder what make our country so great? What events lead up to what we are today? The
United States has many different ups and downs but one has an upside and a downside. I m talking
about the Transcontinental Railroad. The Transcontinental Railroad was the first railway to go across
the country. One of the complications of the railroad was that the government forcefully moved the
Native Americans to reservations. Ways they got natives to go to the reservations was though taking
their land, killing buffalo, and forcefully taking them. To the settlers manifest destiny was more
important than Indian lives. They took Native land to make to make what they thought was more
important(Doc 3). By taking the Natives land they are giving them a chance at owning the land and
citizenship. But many of the Native people didn t have the money to buy the land they live on. Ways
they killed buffalo was the tracks stopped them from migrating, the settlers killed them for sport, and
trains hit them. The Indians kept harassing the train workers to try and get them to stop building the
track so the buffalo can migrate (Doc 2). By killing buffalo the natives would starve and have no
reason to stay there. But not all of the effects of the railroad are bad. Some of the good effects are
people didn t have to go around the continent to go to California. Before they had to go around the tip
of Central America. Another positive is that it gave thousand of immigrants jobs, both Irish and

Nature Of Human Existence In John Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men
In the novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, the predatory nature of human existence is a
prevalent thematic topic. Throughout the novel, Steinbeck uses various encounters between the
characters Lennie, Crooks, and Curley s wife to express the predatory nature of human existence.
Crooks and Curley s wife are both provided with the opportunity to exercise their power over an
individual who is weaker and more vulnerable than they are. When Crooks and Curley s wife take this
opportunity, they are showing that when the opportunity to use power arises, people will take the
opportunity. People taking advantage of their power over someone else occurs frequently in society.
As a child, I first began to experience the predatory nature of human existence when I was in the
fourth grade and my best friend saw an opportunity to use her power over me and took it. At the end
of my first grade year, I moved away from the small, rural town near Vienna where I had lived since I
was born. On my first day of school at Lincoln Elementary, I quickly made friends with two girls in
my class named Pam and Kelly. Pam and Kelly introduced me to their group of friends that were all in
our second grade class. For the rest of the school year, this group of friends was who I played on the
playground with everyday and talked to in the classroom. After a great first year of school in Marion,
the time came for my third grade year. Every year at Lincoln, there is a day that is close to the
beginning of the school year where the students can come to the school to meet their new teacher and
look at the class list to see which of their friends is in their class. On that morning, I went to Lincoln to
find out who my new teacher was. To my dismay, I found out that all of my friends from second grade
had a different teacher than I did. After finding out that I was not in class with any of my friends, I
knew that I would have to find a new friend to talk to in my third grade class in addition to having all
of my friends from second grade. At the beginning of my third grade year, I hung out with two friends
I met named Phyllis and Erin. As the year progressed, I started to hang out with Angela who would
soon become one of my best

How should Chase have bid in the first round competition to lead the HK$3.3 billion Disneyland
financing (Bid to win or bid to lose?)
In the first round of competition, there are 17 banks competing to propose a mandate for syndication.
How should Chase make the proposal to Disney depend on the following respects: (1) Disney s
requests (2) Evaluation of the returns and risks. Based on the previous two parts, design the ... Show

Second we analysis the macro economy of HK and the anticipated effect on Disney HK s operating
profits. As the tiger of Asia, Hong Kong has a free market economy low taxes, unrestricted capital
movement, stable HK$ linked to US$. What s more, HK s economy was based on services, tourism
and trading. According to data in Exhibit1, the number of visitors is 1570 times its local population in
1999, with an amount of 10.7 billion. Although we see the financial crisis had an impact on tourism,
but it recovered quickly from 11.7 billion in 1996 to 9.6 billion in 1998 then back to 10.7 billion in
1999. We anticipate a further recovery as the economy warm up. As a tourist resort, Hong Kong
Disneyland has high profit potential.
In a word, the relative exposure of credit risk is low.
* Syndicate risk
Hong Kong Disneyland asked for full underwriting. If the syndication is not successful under
subscription, Chase would end up holding too much loans and higher credit exposure to the project.
For example, if there is only one arranger and single stage general syndication, the max exposure of
Chase would be the total amount $HK 3.3 billion in an extreme case when nobody comes to commit
for the loan.
However, a senior HK government official underscored the government s commitment to the project
at Asia Pacific Loan Market Association Conference, there is a high potential of success syndication
since other banks observed the government s backing on this project.

Introduction
Mini is a British automotive brand owned by BMW. It made its debut in the year 1959. From that time
to today Mini has achieved a great reputation within the market. The Classic Mini, which is the
original design to space concept, influenced generations of car makers with its transversal placed
engine which enables space saving. New Mini models also live up to its characteristics as a small city
car that creates space inside and saves space outside. Mini is also selected as the second most
influential car of the 20th century. Mini cars are designed to be small city cars. The small cars business

Strategy Development
Objective
In the survey that we did, we found out that most of the people think Mini Cooper as a car of fun. The
problem is that generally Mini is associated with young people. We want to change that point of view.
It is a kind of stereotyping when someone says Mini is a young people s car and it is for fun. That s
why our goal to be accomplished with this program is to attract new customers regardless of their age
range. We can do this by increasing awareness and reposition the Mini brand. We want to increase
awareness because we want our potential new customers to be aware of what the company and
product stands for. Once we accomplish to attract their awareness and reposition the brand, we want
them to have the perception, which we tried to accomplish, of what our brand is. Our communication
objective is therefore perception. We want Mini to be perceived as a car that can be driven by anyone
from any age range and not a car for only young people to use.
Target Audience
In this section, we will analyze the target audience of Mini Cooper and will try to picture
characteristics of its target market.
Financial crises have hit the world economics quite negatively and passenger s car segment has been
influenced to a great extent. Sales have dropped for more than double and needs of customers have
been directed towards motorcycle markets. Yet, as mentioned in the Annual Report of the company in

Negative Effects Of Social Media And Its Effects On...
Effects of Social Media on the Mental Health of University Students
Social media is unquestionably, everywhere. In spite of its recent beginnings, it has quickly become an
indispensable part of everyday lives. Social media and various websites are the most commonly used
among today s society, specifically of young adults. Social media sites include learning resources, like
blogs; image and networking pages such as Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter; streaming
sites such as YouTube; and interactive peer to peer gaming sites. With these platforms, the world
continues to grow smaller and smaller as social media connects every aspect of human life, benefitting
young adolescents by improving connections, communication and even practical skills needed for
adulthood. However, despite its ability to bring people together, several recent researchers share the
belief that social media has affected society negatively, most especially those who are still in school.
The problem that this essay tackles is how young adults mental health is affected by too much social
media influence. Are online actions an expression of offline behaviors? Is social media harming young
adults mental health? These topics have been argued by several researches and make for interesting
debates. Statistics from a research done by Doctors Gwenn Schurgin O Keeffe and Kathleen Clarke
Pearson show many mental health issues, about 50 70%, are diagnosed before the age of 18. Making

The Church s Showdown With Galileo
The Roman Catholic Church has been seen, by many, as a villain in the world for many centuries. The
Church s showdown with Galileo in court is quite possibly the greatest standoff between faith and
science that history has seen (Cowell). A common view of the establishment is that the Church is led
by corrupt, old men who are strongly oppose scientific advancement if the science disagrees with the
Church doctrine. It was all because, according to the Pope and bishops, Galileo s pretended discovery
vitiated the whole Christian plan of salvation (qtd. in Battershall). Coming out of the dark ages, the
church had prevented scientific achievement under the belief that people s time was better spent
attempting to reach a peaceful afterlife. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Galilei s schooling began when he was twelve, his father enrolled him in a monastery school
(Langford). This second fact displays that religion was equally as important to his family as intellect.
During the 16th century, Nicolaus Copernicus was a very influential astronomer, whom Galileo
Galilei, an aspiring scientist in that field, admired and studied diligently. Copernicus theorized that the
Earth rotated around the sun, also known as the heliocentric theory (Paolucci and Brophy). This was
in contrast to the Ptolemaic theory (and Catholic doctrine) that everything else in our galaxy pivoted
around the Earth. Galileo spent his life attempting to prove the Copernican Theory.
In 1609, Galileo, using knowledge he gained from time in the Netherlands, improved on the
previously invented telescope. He presented the new model to the Venetian senate in August. Using
the telescope, he found a new star, one which was very supportive of the Copernican theory ( Galileo
Galilei ). In Galilei s published writing, The Starry Messenger, he states the following:
Here we have a fine and elegant argument for quieting the doubts of those who, while accepting with
tranquil mind the revolutions of the planets about the sun in the Copernican system, are mightily
disturbed to have the moon alone revolve about the earth and accompany it in an annual rotation about
the sun.

Imagination: A Human s Special Sense
Human beings have the ability to create their own individual worlds through imagination. However,
the imagination is limited because of the constant use of technology and the reliance on vision. The
technological culture has separated humans from the actual world and their senses; much like vision
has done. In the essay The Eyes of the Skin: Architecture and the Senses , Juhani Pallasmaa focuses
on the exploration of the senses and how they interact with one another. We also see his discussion on
how vision can affect the human experience. The more visually capable we are, the more we begin to
lose our sense of imagination. Similarly in the essay ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We see that our imagination comes into play when our vision is obscured. Without the sense of vision,
our other senses quickly assume richness and power. This occurs to blind people such as Hull, who at
the age of forty eight became completely blind. Sacks states that Hull speaks of how the sound of the
rain, never before accorded much attention, can now delineate a whole landscape for him...it throws a
coloured blanket over previously invisible things (304). In other words, we see that Sacks is showing
us how strong Hull s imagination was after becoming blind. Just because Hull became blind, it did not
mean that Hull s life was over. On the other hand, it was a new beginning for Hull. He was able to
make use of his other senses and see how important they are. With Hull s imagination also came a
sense of intimacy with his surroundings. He felt as though with his strong visual imagery, he had a
strong sense of closeness, which evolves from imagining. The term delineate has a significant
meaning in Sack s text because imagination is what led Hull to be able to portray the images precisely
in his mind. Similarly, Pallasmaa states, anyone who has half woken up to the sound of a train or an
ambulance in a nocturnal city, and though his/her sleep experienced the space of the city with its
countless inhabitants scattered within its structures, knows the

African American Literature And Religion
Throughout history it can be easy to see that religion/faith and spirituality have been a big influence
on African American Literature. Religion and faith in African American Literature comes in many
forms depending on the author, but generally, this theme tended to relate to the desire for freedom.
Quite often authors wrote in prayer form, asking for God s assistance to help them make it through
their time of misery, to help them get through life as a slave. Faith in African American Literature was
vital to the unity of the African American slaves. Spirituality as well, as faith, brought a feeling of
community amongst the separated African American slaves. The African Americans religious practices
were an essential and foundational aspect of the world that the slaves created for themselves inside the
plantation, which was a cruel, cold, and unfair world forced upon the slaves. ... Show more content on

The point that is brought about among the texts is not necessarily the differences among the Christian
faith or African faiths or the Muslim faiths and how each affected the African American slave. The big
picture seen in the text is that faith and religion did in fact have a great positive effect among the
slaves and also had an effect on the environment that the slaves were pressed into during the lineage of
the black Americans from the 1800s until now.
Religion and Spirituality was in continues to be such a prominent theme in African American
Literature because religion and spirituality was/is so important in their everyday lives. I think that
without religion, many would have succumbed to their woes and their inhuman spiritual strength

Sociological Concepts In The Film American Sniper
The film American Sniper portrays the life of a US Navy S.E.A.L. sniper Chris Kyle who was
deployed to Iraq after the events of 9/11. The movie shows the life of Kyle before his deployment to
Iraq. He was a Texan rodeo cowboy who later joined the military after watching a news film of an
attack on a US embassy. After passing his BUD/s as a S.E.A.L., he meets Taya at a bar who later
becomes his wife. After the attack on the World Trade Center, Kyle s team is deployed to Iraq and is
assigned to take out Al Qaeda forces. During Kyle s deployment, he faced challenging moments where
both himself and his comrades were in danger. His duty as a sniper was to take out hostile people who
were a threat to the Marines, even children. Kyle then begins to develop a case of Post Traumatic
Stress Disorder, though he is unwillingly to accept it. His wife Taya begins to worry for him because
of his slow inability to assimilate back into civilian life. After completing his four tours in Iraq, he
retires from the military and returns home as well as helping other veterans with PTSD. However,
Kyle was later killed by a veteran whom he tried to help. Throughout the film, many sociological
concepts were seen in the movie. Symbolic interactionism, values, mores, coercion, gender
socialization, and total institutions were apparent in the film. Symbolic interactionism is defined as a
theoretical perspective in which society is viewed as composed of symbols that people use to establish

Analysis Of Call Of The Wild
The Call of the Wild is a very thrilling and engaging fiction novel. The majority of the book takes
place in the Yukon wilderness during the 1890 s. The tale is exciting because it s based on a real event,
the Gold Rush in Klondike, and describes in detail this unusual time in America s history. This story is
written in third person with a specific emphasis on Buck, the main character. The third person point of
view enables the reader to learn about all the characters and their surroundings. Because of these
elements and a captivating plot, it is considered by some to be the greatest adventure story of all time.
The setting of this tale greatly impacts the characters and the situations the characters encounter. The
Call of the Wild is set in rugged Alaska; it is in the middle of nowhere with towns very sparse. Poor
planning, inexperienced drivers, harsh terrain, and frigid weather lead to the extreme lack of supplies
and food. The dogs and their drivers are almost always hungry and exhausted. These conditions also
make their morale drop a great deal, which causes everyone to be desperate and irritable. The
environment changes them not only physically, but mentally as well. It instills fear, depression, and
hopelessness into them just imagine if you were in their paws!
The main characters in The Call of the Wild are Buck, Spitz, Hal, and John Thornton. The protagonist
in this story is Buck, the powerful hard working St. Bernard and Scotch Shepherd mix. There are two
main antagonists, Spitz and Hal. Spitz is a vicious and arrogant dog that despises Buck because he
challenges him for the lead dog position. They have several minor quarrels, but when their anger
explodes, they have a very intense fight to the death, during which Spitz meets his untimely demise.
The other antagonist, Hal, is an inexperienced and unskilled driver that doesn t know how to take care
of the dogs. Hal misjudges the supply amount, so they run out of, well, everything. Because of his
greed and quest for gold, Hal pushes and punishes the team far beyond their limits. Sadly, Hal beats
Buck nearly to death, but thankfully, he is saved by John Thornton, who becomes his loving and loyal
master. The relationships between the characters make

A Comparison of the Methods of the Suffragists and the Suffragettes
There were two main groups in Britain during the early 20th century who were both fighting for the
same cause, women s suffrage. Although in the end they both wanted the same outcome, they went
about trying to win the vote in completely different ways. the first group to be established lead by
Millicent Fawcett were the suffragists, they were made up of mainly middle class well educated
women, and the suffragists believed the best way to get the vote was through peaceful tactics such as
petitions and peaceful marches. Groups began to set up all over the country showing their support for
this movement, and eventually the unified in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They had completely different ideas about how to gain suffrage for women; they believed that the
peaceful, very proper campaign being used by the suffragists was going nowhere fast. So they
believed that they needed to do something different they chose to try and gain suffrage by any means
possible whether it was legal or illegal, as they felt any actions were justifiable in their fight for the
suffrage they felt women deserved. A significant example of this is when Emmeline s daughter
christabel spat in a policeman s face, she was subsequently arrested tried and sentenced to a custodial
sentence which is what she wanted as it gained huge publicity for their cause but it was bad publicity
society in general was outraged at what this woman had done. They saw any publicity as good
publicity, as it put their issue in the public eye.
The suffragists always used the same method, a peaceful protest. They would create petitions, hand
out leaflets, they would politely ask MP s to attend their lobbies and meetings and listen to their
thoughts. They believed their peaceful protest and strength of argument would win over the support of
the men in high up places and therefore give them what they wanted.
On the other hand the suffragettes had a much more intense way

The Behavior Of Binary Alloys
Abstract
The behavior of binary alloys was investigated by the Metropolis Monte Carlo Simulations in Matlab.
Temperatures, alloy concentrations and interaction parameters are variables being varied in this
simulation. Increases in temperature led to an increase in entropy as well as a decrease in relative
correlation of orders. The entropy and enthalpy of mixing both were affected by the alloy
concentration, with a maximum of 50%. Lastly, the interaction parameter defined the type of bonds
that were energetically favorable: for negative bond energies, the alloy consisted of intermetallic
compounds whereas for positive bond energies, the two types of atoms had a tendency to cluster and
thus phase separation occurred. When the bonding energy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the substitution occurs randomly, an ordered structure can be obtained under certain
conditions. For a binary alloy of A and B metals, there are two types of order: long range and short
range. The first one measures the fraction of metal A atoms positioned on α sites and the second one is
an indicator of the average number of B atoms surrounding an A atom. Depending on the energy of the
bonds between the two metal atoms with each other and themselves, an alloy s ordered state will vary.
The extent to which an alloy becomes ordered under certain conditions depends on which arrangement
is more energetically favored, given by the state s Gibbs energy. For low temperatures, the Gibbs
energy is proportional to the relative concentrations of the two metals and the bond strengths. Above a
critical temperature, the entropy of the solution is dominant and long range order disappears while the
short range order is present to a certain extent. [2] This temperature dependence has a significant
impact on the applications of a certain material.
The two main methods of studying the order and configuration of alloys are X rays diffuse scattering
and Monte Carlo simulations. The former can be used to study individual sections (i.e. short range
order) but is extensive as individual experiments on single crystals are needed. In order to study the

The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West
Imagine a child that was born with a bright green tint to their skin and had razor sharp teeth. This
happened to Melena Thropp in the book The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, written
by Gregory McGuire. The Broadway musical Wicked, by Winnie Holzman, was based on this novel.
When it made its debut it astounded the world as it won many awards. Wicked draws in many people
because they can relate to the feeling of being ostracized the way Elphaba was. In the 21st century,
musicals have progressed along with technology due to the use of new special effects in musicals
today. The New Millennium marks the beginning of the 21st century. On September 9th 2001 one of
the most horrific events had occurred (History.com Staff). Al Qaeda terrorists had taken over four
planes. The terrorists had purposely crashed two of the planes into the Twin Towers. A third plane had
then been crashed into the Pentagon. The first plane had crashed at 8:46 in the morning. The plane had
crashed between the 80th and 110th floor. 18 minutes after the first crash another plane had crashed
into the south tower near the 60th floor. Fifteen minutes later the south tower collapsed causing a huge
cloud of dust to arrive. At 10:30 a.m. the second tower collapsed. 3000 people were killed in this
disaster (History.com Staff). It is a day America will never forget. One thing that has really progressed
in the 21st century is the technology. In 2005 YouTube was launched (FutureTimeline.net). It

Symbols Of The Caribbean Culture
There are multiple cultures around the world that influence a country s way of living. A culture is the
way in which certain groups behave, think, and what tangible objects they bring value to. The
Colombian culture is profoundly influenced by the Spanish culture, but has many distinct factors that
allow it to properly function. The first component of culture is symbols. Symbols are anything with
significance and value shared by the people in a culture. A symbol most countries value is their
national flag. The colors of the Colombian flag each symbolize a characteristic ideal for a strong
country. The yellow horizontal stripe is a reference to the wealth in gold Colombia withheld before the
arrival of Spaniards. The blue depicts the oceans lining the outer regions of the country. A second
interpretation of the flag s blue color is the country s loyalty and consciousness. Lastly, the red reflects
the bravery Colombians inherited during their victorious fight for independence as well as a
recognition for those who lost their lives (Colombia s National Symbols, 2017). Another national
symbol in Colombia is the Coat of Arms. The Coat of Arms is a national symbol of their motto
Libertad y Orden which translates to Liberty and Order . The national bird, Andean condor, has an
important meaning to the roots of Colombians, dating back to the indigenous Andean culture. The
Andean people used the vulture as a symbol of health and power. Gestures as well are symbols that

Igbo s Culture Comparison In West Africa
CULTURE COMPARISON IN NIGERIA WITHIN THREE IGBO SPEAKING LANDS AND

known ethnic groups, igbo s, Hausa s , and the Yoruba s. The igbo s (Biafrans) are known as
Christians, the hausa s are known as muslims and the yoruba s are mixed Christians and muslims.
However in this three ethnic groups there s so much cultural, language and morality differences. But
in this project, I will focus more on the within language, cultural history of the igbo s (ndi igbo), and
yoruba s culture comparisons. It s said that people who speaks different languages do indeed think

Everything roots from the family unit and this can t be ignored. Yoruba families are, like most african
families, dominated by the father. Where the difference lies is the children have a relationship with
their father that emphasis love. The dynamic between love and respect are the differences between the
two groups. Children call their father by gentle names and there s a rigorous amount of cultural
niceties and traditions that children are to learn when interacting with adults. Igbo: Family life is also
the foundation of Igbo culture. More so than Yoruba culture is the power the father has over the
family. Igbo fathers emphasis respect more than love though I wouldn t say the love is more or less in
the cultures. It s more common for igbo children to call their father s more authoritative names like sir,
and culturally there s an element of respective distance. I ve seen yoruba families eat from the same
plate and children sitting among adults while they speak. In Igbo culture if you wish to eat with your
father, you eat from his plate, but he will not leave where he s at to eat from the child s plate. Typically
fathers are served separate from children, and as children become youths they chose to eat separately
from those not in their age group. Igbo adults are also insulted by children that don t leave the area
when adults are talking. Affection is more the job of the mother than the father, and it s the father s

Case Study of Executive Holloware
Case of study of executive holloware
INTRODUCTION:
This document contains the case of study of Executive Holloware (EH), a company that manufactures
products that aimed at the top end of market with a commanded high price. The most important
product was the handmade silver plated tea sets.
In the following pages, a definition and specification of quality is presented and why it is important
for the company. It is also mention the main causes of the problems in the case of study, the measure
of quality in the stages during the manufacturing process and finally the recommendations of steps for
implementing quality improvements.
1. Why is quality important to Executive Holloware?
The term Quality is the core business for Executive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Quality is also specified in the internal process. This process needs to be measure and comparable to
the acceptable ranges in production to develop a product that fulfil the specifications and it also
requires the participation from everyone in the organization . (Maguad, 2006)
4. What are the underlying causes of the problems at Executive Holloware?
There are some problems presented in the EH case of study. First, the products developed by the
company are high value tea sets items, thus the necessity to maintain a standard performance to
produce a product without any defect. One cause of the problem is that there is no specific definition
of defect in the entire process. It is mentioned that the senior shop foreman does not have a clear
understanding of defect definition and this affect the correct performance of the entire process because
it represent in re working cost.
Other cause of problem is that each department does not maintain a close communication about the
relevance of the quality in the process. Paul realized that each department blame each other regarding
to the scratches and bruises of the product. Even the finance director did not has a clear vision of the
situation, therefore the lack of communication and process internal control
In the Organization, there were no specification clearly defined of quality and the metrics of quality
acceptance during the process, such as the clear definition of scratch and

The Milgram Experiment Essay
The Milgram experiment was performed by the sociologist Stanley Milgram to discover the power of
authority. In this experiment, Stanley was trying to demonstrate the willingness people have to follow
orders from an authority figure. Even thought the results of this experiment were very surprising, I
think that this kind of experiments would allows us to study and understand better the human s nature.
This experiment showed a side of human s nature that was unknown by the scientistic community, and
this is the reason why we need to perform more experiment like this one. Milgram experiment focused
on the conflict between obedience to authority and personal conscience. In this experiment, three sets

The main purpose of the study was to determine the relationship between postnatal depression and
peer support by way of reviewing primary research articles. The search strategy adopted for this study
can be broken down into several steps. The key concepts and terminologies for the study were
identified. The synonyms of the terms were then determined which were also included within the
search terms. Boolean operators were the chosen search features. Databases from which the literature
search would be conducted were chosen. Using Boolean operators, different search expression were
created and the search conducted. The results were evaluated and the inclusion exclusion criteria

When it comes to vision, we see things based on the light reflected from surfaces. The reflected light
waves enter the eye through the cornea at the front of the eye, it s resized at the pupil, focused by the
lens, and hits the retina at the back. The light is then detected by rods and cones, photoreceptors,
which alters the light into electrical signals. The optic nerve transmits those vision signals to the
lateral geniculate nucleus, where visual information is transmitted to the visual cortex of the brain then
converts into the objects that we see.
Also, on the retina is the optic disk. There are no photoreceptors in this area, so any light that falls on
this part of the retina is unseen and creates what is called the blind spot. (Hugh ... Show more content

Honestly math came easy for me, mostly because I was taught to keep up with the tempo of the music.
Thankfully playing in the band came naturally for me and I liked the challenge in trying to learn an
instrument. My school performed at a couple of competitions and a few concerts as well. I continued
playing until my sophomore year in high school, I lost interest in high school; it seemed like it was
more of a chore rather something to enjoy and the students made it difficult for me to perform so, I
forced myself to leave. Before I quit the band in my sophomore year I joined the culinary arts club and

Laughlin s Sterilization Law Analysis

immigration reform. After 1890, the United States experienced an influx of immigrants from central
and southern Europe, the Balkans, Russia, and Poland (Allen, The Ideology... 25). Allen notes that the
older Anglo Saxon and Nordic immigrants perceived these new immigrants as inferior. Henry

Progressivism responded to the changes of the time period by enacting a series of social changes such
as prohibition and women s suffrage. Martin Pernick, a history professor at the University of
Michigan, key characteristic of the progressive movement was its belief that science would be able to
address social problems (26). Pernick also relates progressivism with the development of modern
propaganda in that propaganda presented information that would influence public opinion on an issue.
Propaganda played a large part in popularizing eugenics among the public. Among other measures,
exhibits were set up to present eugenic ideas to school groups and the general public, popular eugenics
organizations were established to expose citizens to eugenic ideas, and articles were published for the
average reader to present eugenics as logical and scientifically based (Allen, The Misuse... 115). This
attitude produced an environment in which the public was more receptive to a movement like eugenics

Power Capacitors Essay
ABSTRACT
In the industrial sector the various motoring loads are continuously running and generating the
inductive load. So the power factor in this system gets reduced due to the inductive reactive power.
But the electricity board has a standard limits regarding the power factor values and if the power
factor goes below the specified limit; the electricity company charges the penalty to the industrial
consumers. The automatic power factor correction panel provides the required compensation to
overcome the inductive reactance by using the power capacitors. The microcontroller PIC receives
current signal from current transformer and simultaneously gives the signals to the various contactors
to connect the capacitors in the line for the compensation. Thus by adding the capacitor to the line will
compensate the reactive power and maintains the power factor near to unity. This will avoids the
penalty to the industrial consumers and may get the incentives. In the conventional methods we were
using the fixed capacitor for compensation. But these were leading to excessive charging of the
capacitors causes the voltage surges. Thus it becomes difficult to main power factor near unity by on
and off operation of fixed capacitor. The contactor switched capacitors are connected and
disconnected automatically eliminating the previous problem.

The liver is involved in many functions of the body which are important for survival. It is the main
filtering organ of the body and is involved in processes such a synthesis of plasma proteins, storage of
glycogen for energy use as well as excretion, secretion and detoxification of products such as
bilirubin, alcohol, cholesterol and drugs. Since the liver is the only organ to rid hemoglobin from the
body, one of the most important functions it carries out is bilirubin metabolism. The heme component
of hemoglobin is first converted to bilirubin by set of enzymes. It is then bound to albumin and
transported to the liver hepatocytes where the enzyme uridyl diphosphate glucoronyl transferase
converts bilirubin into water soluble conjugated form so it can be excreted into the intestines. If the
hepatocytes within the liver are damage due to invasion of HCV, bilirubin will not be able to be
excreted thus resulting in the buildup of bile. When bile builds up, the skin turn to a yellowish color
called jaundice. This usually happens during the later stages of hepatitis (Sunheimer Graves, 2011).
There are two phases of hepatitis C; acute and chronic. After exposure of HCV, 85 90% of both types
of hepatitis are usually asymptomatic but symptoms can occur during the acute phase following a 2 12
week incubation period. In cases of acute hepatitis, symptoms consist of fatigue,

understanding of what your students know. Having this information provides you with a clue as to
what you need to spend time on, things that you can quickly touch on, how to group your students,
what organizers you may need or word banks that you can use. If you find that some students are
knowledgeable on the topic, they can be used as the teacher experts in the classrooms. The final part
of this Action Step is to do a post assessment. At this time you can ask the same questions as before or

Moreover, NaOH cannot replace Na2CO3 for it generally do not satisfy above requirements and very
hygroscopic in nature. On the other hand, 0.05 M HCl is called the standard solution. An ideal
standard solution[3] is (1) sufficiently stable to determine concentration, (2) reactive with the analyte
so that the time required between additions of titrant is minimized, (3) completely reactive with the
analyte so that satisfactorily end points are realized, and (4) selectively reactive with the analyte that
can be described by a simple balanced equation. The standardization of the titrant aims to know the
exact concentration of the titrant (its deviation from the measurement done). Two basic methods are
used to establish the concentration of standard solutions: (1) direct method, in which a carefully
weighed quantity of a primary standard is dissolved and diluted to an exactly known volume in a
volumetric flask, and (2) standardization by titrating (a) weighed quantity of a primary standard, or (b)
a measured volume of another standard solution. In the

Unusual Animal Friendships
Have you ever thought about the relationships between animals? Two very different kinds of animals
can get a very strong bond between each other. They will start to care for each other even if they are
not the same species. Like a dog taking care of a littler of kittens because the kittens have no mother.
They will even feed offspring that are not even there own. I do believe that a dog that just had puppies
will take care of a litter of cats.
Animals will care for one another. Like the lions in the passage Animal roles and relationship. The
lions look out for the little cubs while the other ones go hunt and get food for them to eat. I know this
because in passage one it says, In a pride of lions lionesses are the hunters while the males are the

All Summer Is A Day By Ray Bradbury
Many centuries after the first spaceship landed on the moon, a group of brave rocket men and women
did the unbelievable. The short story All summer is a day , by Ray Bradbury, takes place in the
underground city of the planet Venus where tunnels roamed instead of streets. The land above them
was submerged with endless pouring rain and deadly jungles. The sight of the sun was a rare miracle
that only happened once every seven years. The children spent all their life in the enclosed
underground tunnels, well all except for one. Margot was the only child who came to Venus when she
was four, and the biggest difference was that she still remembered the times when the glowing sun
gave warmth and hope.
Thesis Statement (1 3 sentences) Her past experiences and opportunities caused the children of Venus
to be jealous of her. As a result, the children harassed Margot in disbelief. The gloomy, enclosed
environment affects everyone greatly. The message of the story shows how the environment and the
people around you can affect you because of their own lack of experiences. The author portrays this
when the children harass the main character, he also uses craft moves to show isolation of the main
character, and how depressed she is as a result. To begin, the author shows that the harassment Margot
goes through is due to the children lack of knowledge about the sun since they have spent their whole
life on Venus. Throughout the day, Margot brings back memories of the sun.

The Effect Of Activated Yeast On Hydrogen Peroxide
The Effect Of Activated Yeast on Hydrogen Peroxide

Period 1; 21 October 2015
Abstract
The topic of this lab is on biochemistry. This experiment was conducted to show how cells prevent the
build of hydrogen peroxide in tissues. My group consisted of Lekha, Ruth, and Jason. There were used
two different concentrations of hydrogen peroxide through this experiment , 1.5% and 3%. By testing
two different types it is easier to understand how the H2O2 and catalase react with one another. To do
this both the yeast, which was our catalase, and H2O2 were mixed together in a beaker. Each
concentration was tested out twice for more accurate results . 1.5% concentrated H2O2 had an average
reaction rate of 10.5 seconds while 3% concentrated H2O2 had an average reaction rate of 7.5
seconds. From this experiment we learned that by increasing the concentration of H2O2 and
chemically combining it with a catalase it will speed up the reaction. Enzymes speed up chemical
reactions . The independent variable in this experiment was the concentration of the H2O2. Some key
vocabulary words are Catalase, enzyme, hydrogen peroxide ( H2O2), and concentration.
Introduction
The purpose of this experiment was to determine how the body prevents the build up of H2O2 in
tissues. During the process of cellular respiration Carbon Dioxide and water are produced but
occasionally Hydrogen Peroxide is formed as an

Descriptive Essay About Breakfast
Every morning, my son Pete wakes up at 6:30 AM. I have 2 ½ hours to get us both ready for the day,
which seems like it should be plenty of time. But each day the nanny arrives at 9, and I m never ready
to leave! So I started making these freezable breakfast sandwiches to help me get out the door faster.
I m a personal chef, so I m really fast in the kitchen. Before I had Pete, I never really understood why
people said that they didn t have time to cook breakfast in the morning. Scrambling an egg takes no
time at all! But now I realize, you have to clean the pan, the spatula, your plate, and also eat the eggs
with a fork in your kitchen, all while trying to wrangle the baby in the other arm. In this new reality,
minutes matter.
Finding a quicker breakfast solution
So I wanted a quicker and cleaner way to get my fuel in the morning. While oatmeal and granola can
be nice occasionally, my go to breakfast will always include eggs. They give me longer lasting energy,
plus I almost always prefer savory to sweet. I needed a way to have my eggs quickly, without having
to do any of the actual cooking in the morning. Ideally, something that could be made in a big batch
and frozen in individual portions.
Strata was an early contender. This Vegetable, Egg and Cheddar Strata recipe is one I make for clients
often and it freezes beautifully. But there s a lot of up front prep, a long cook time, and it still requires
a plate and fork. I also considered quiche, my personal brunch favorite. It didn t make the cut for the
same reasons. So then I started thinking of the breakfast sandwiches they serve at Starbucks. They re
pre made, pretty tasty, and always hit the spot when I need a quick breakfast. I decided to make my
own version that I could enjoy at home for a third of the price per sandwich.
The beautiful thing about these breakfast sandwiches is that they are completely customizable. Ham,
sausage, bacon, turkey bacon, and veggie sausage are all great options. Cheddar is my favorite cheese
choice, but you can use any sliced cheese that melts well. You can even mix cooked veggies into the
eggs to increase your morning fiber intake. Once you get the overall method down, it s easy to switch
it up.

Classical Music Comparison
What is classical? Serious or conventional music following long established principles rather than a
folk, jazz, or popular tradition. This is the universally accepted definition of what classical music is.
But what is classical music defined as in my opinion? Well, classical music for myself falls within the
serious category, same as the first definition. A serious composition of music without vocals. Classicl
was also a time period, and that is what I will focus primarily on for the subject and question at hand,
what is classical? Classical music has had different periods which includes romantic (1804 1910), but
classical itself as a period (1750 1820) was a clear un textured form of music in comparison to the
others. One well known artist that fell under the classical period was Mozart. Mozart was and is one of
the most well known classical artist, to which many would accompany knowledge with his ... Show

Of course this is open to discussion being opinion based, it just was it own time period. Much like any
of 21st centuries music genres they have had their own time periods. With each time periods comes
and unique styling and sound that most artist within that niche seem to follow. Until you have that one
person like Beethoven to really change things from the normal, which is so notable that a new period
is born. In the end you can choose your favorite genre and time period of that said genre, which will
often correlate with who you like. Bu none of this makes it better or worse. So in conclusion anyone
can form their own idea of the term classical music by breaking down the roots of this music, how its
played, the length etc. But with music like most terms describing music its really only ever commonly
agreed and mutually understood what any one term means when someone says it. What we may mean
in todays time period for any and all music to express feelings may be taken into a different light

Gerda Weissmann Literary Devices
Gerda Weissmann was fifteen years old when World War II started. Her brother Arthur is the first
member of her family to be sent off to work. After two years, Gerda and her parents are then sent
away as well. Her dad goes to a male labor camp, her mother, goes to a death camp, and Gerda is sent
to a female labor camp. Over the span of about four years, Gerda has gone to many different labor
camps. One camp sent her and everyone else in the camp on a 300 mile march to Czechoslovakia. In
Czechoslovakia, she is and the remaining 125 girls are liberated and brought back to health. She meets
a U.S. soldier there named Kurt Klein. They fell in love and got married and went to live in the U.S.
The literary device symbolism in used many times throughout this book. Symbolism is when you have
an ordinary object or action that has a lot of meaning behind it. For example, the day before Gerda
was to go to Wadowitz, Papa wanted her to put on her snow boots. Klein writes, Those boots played a
vital part in my life (86). The boots saved her life because they kept her feet warm when they were
marching in the snow. This is an effective literary device because it can make the book more
meaningful. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Imagery is when the author uses adjectives and is very descriptive in order to create an image in your
head about what is happening or the setting looks like. For example, when Gerda went to Niania s
house to say goodbye, she sees Niania sitting at the window asleep. Klein writes, I saw her in that
early dawn like a figure in a beautiful, long forgotten dream (72). This description helps you better
understand what Gerda saw. Imagery is an effective literary device because it keeps the reader hooked
and interested as well as help the reader better understand what is going on in the

Describe the main functions of the skeletal system (P1) Functions of the Skeleton Support the skeleton
acts as frame for the body and keeps us upright, it provides shape and is the main structural frame for
the body. Protection the skeleton provides the protection for the vital organs in the body. For example,
the rib cage protects the heart and lungs. Another example would be the cranium; it protects the one of
the most import vital organs in the body, the brain. Movement the skeleton enables movement. It
provides a large surface area for muscle attachment. When skeletal muscles contract, they pull on
bones at a joint to produce movement. Produce Blood Cells the skeleton enables red and white blood
cells to be produced in the marrow cavities of larger bones of the body. Red blood cells make
haemoglobin and transport oxygen and carbon dioxide around the body. White blood cells help protect
the body against infections. Bones such as the femur and the pelvic girdle produce blood cells. Fat and
Mineral storage the bones in the skeleton store many minerals. The main minerals they store are
calcium and phosphorus which strengthen the bones. Leverage the bones in the skeleton provide the

The Stomach Of The Cell
The article, The Stomach of the Cell from Pharmaceutical News describes lysosomes of the cell
located in the stomach of a human. Lysosomes are in the cells of the stomach. Their main function
uses acid to degrade, or breakdown proteins. (p. 1). Lysosomes can be used against the body in the
case of malaria, although, there is a drug that can treat it. In the beginning of the article, the writer
describes the main function of lysosomes and how lysosomes relate to other organelles in other types
of cells. In the writer s words, Lysosomes are found in animal cells...In plant and fungal cells, a

Lysosomes and vacuoles break down amino acids and proteins to be recycled to make new proteins.
Phagocytosis is when cells deal with the remains of dead cells. Dead cells are broke down in
lysosomes to be recycled to be reused as building materials or as nutrients for energy. (p. 1). The
article sets the disadvantage of lysosomes. Some of the organelles use the acidic environment to carry
out reactions that require a low pH (p. 1). Malaria parasites are one them. Because of the heme that is
released from the digestion of hemoglobin, it becomes toxic to the parasite. To detoxify the heme,
malarial parasites convert heme into an insoluble crystal called hemozoin, which is no longer toxic to
the parasite. (p. 1 p. 2). The near the end of the article discusses the drug solutions to convert heme to
hemozoin and the process. Quinine and chloroquine both neutralize the pH of vacuoles and
dissolve/attach to lipids. After the drugs go through the lipid membrane, they increase the pH of
vacuoles. After the vacuoles get neutralized, heme begins to accumulate in Plasmodium, eventually
killing the parasites. (p.

  • 2. Complications Of The Transcontinental Railroad Do you ever wonder what make our country so great? What events lead up to what we are today? The United States has many different ups and downs but one has an upside and a downside. I m talking about the Transcontinental Railroad. The Transcontinental Railroad was the first railway to go across the country. One of the complications of the railroad was that the government forcefully moved the Native Americans to reservations. Ways they got natives to go to the reservations was though taking their land, killing buffalo, and forcefully taking them. To the settlers manifest destiny was more important than Indian lives. They took Native land to make to make what they thought was more important(Doc 3). By taking the Natives land they are giving them a chance at owning the land and citizenship. But many of the Native people didn t have the money to buy the land they live on. Ways they killed buffalo was the tracks stopped them from migrating, the settlers killed them for sport, and trains hit them. The Indians kept harassing the train workers to try and get them to stop building the track so the buffalo can migrate (Doc 2). By killing buffalo the natives would starve and have no reason to stay there. But not all of the effects of the railroad are bad. Some of the good effects are people didn t have to go around the continent to go to California. Before they had to go around the tip of Central America. Another positive is that it gave thousand of immigrants jobs, both Irish and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Nature Of Human Existence In John Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men In the novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, the predatory nature of human existence is a prevalent thematic topic. Throughout the novel, Steinbeck uses various encounters between the characters Lennie, Crooks, and Curley s wife to express the predatory nature of human existence. Crooks and Curley s wife are both provided with the opportunity to exercise their power over an individual who is weaker and more vulnerable than they are. When Crooks and Curley s wife take this opportunity, they are showing that when the opportunity to use power arises, people will take the opportunity. People taking advantage of their power over someone else occurs frequently in society. As a child, I first began to experience the predatory nature of human existence when I was in the fourth grade and my best friend saw an opportunity to use her power over me and took it. At the end of my first grade year, I moved away from the small, rural town near Vienna where I had lived since I was born. On my first day of school at Lincoln Elementary, I quickly made friends with two girls in my class named Pam and Kelly. Pam and Kelly introduced me to their group of friends that were all in our second grade class. For the rest of the school year, this group of friends was who I played on the playground with everyday and talked to in the classroom. After a great first year of school in Marion, the time came for my third grade year. Every year at Lincoln, there is a day that is close to the beginning of the school year where the students can come to the school to meet their new teacher and look at the class list to see which of their friends is in their class. On that morning, I went to Lincoln to find out who my new teacher was. To my dismay, I found out that all of my friends from second grade had a different teacher than I did. After finding out that I was not in class with any of my friends, I knew that I would have to find a new friend to talk to in my third grade class in addition to having all of my friends from second grade. At the beginning of my third grade year, I hung out with two friends I met named Phyllis and Erin. As the year progressed, I started to hang out with Angela who would soon become one of my best ... From that time to today Mini has achieved a great reputation within the market. New Mini models also live up to its characteristics as a small city car that creates space inside and saves space outside. Strategy Development Objective In the survey that we did, we found out that most of the people think Mini Cooper as a car of fun. The problem is that generally Mini is associated with young people. We want to change that point of view. It is a kind of stereotyping when someone says Mini is a young people s car and it is for fun. That s why our goal to be accomplished with this program is to attract new customers regardless of their age range. We can do this by increasing awareness and reposition the Mini brand. We want to increase awareness because we want our potential new customers to be aware of what the company and product stands for. Once we accomplish to attract their awareness and reposition the brand, we want them to have the perception, which we tried to accomplish, of what our brand is. Our communication objective is therefore perception. We want Mini to be perceived as a car that can be driven by anyone from any age range and not a car for only young people to use. Target Audience In this section, we will analyze the target audience of Mini Cooper and will try to picture characteristics of its target market. Financial crises have hit the world economics quite negatively and passenger s car segment has been influenced to a great extent. In spite of its recent beginnings, it has quickly become an indispensable part of everyday lives. Social media and various websites are the most commonly used among today s society, specifically of young adults. Social media sites include learning resources, like blogs; image and networking pages such as Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter; streaming sites such as YouTube; and interactive peer to peer gaming sites. With these platforms, the world continues to grow smaller and smaller as social media connects every aspect of human life, benefitting young adolescents by improving connections, communication and even practical skills needed for adulthood. However, despite its ability to bring people together, several recent researchers share the belief that social media has affected society negatively, most especially those who are still in school. The problem that this essay tackles is how young adults mental health is affected by too much social media influence. Are online actions an expression of offline behaviors? Is social media harming young adults mental health? These topics have been argued by several researches and make for interesting debates. Statistics from a research done by Doctors Gwenn Schurgin O Keeffe and Kathleen Clarke Pearson show many mental health issues, about 50 70%, are diagnosed before the age of 18. • 8. The Church s Showdown With Galileo The Roman Catholic Church has been seen, by many, as a villain in the world for many centuries. The Church s showdown with Galileo in court is quite possibly the greatest standoff between faith and science that history has seen (Cowell). A common view of the establishment is that the Church is led by corrupt, old men who are strongly oppose scientific advancement if the science disagrees with the Church doctrine. It was all because, according to the Pope and bishops, Galileo s pretended discovery vitiated the whole Christian plan of salvation (qtd. in Battershall). Coming out of the dark ages, the church had prevented scientific achievement under the belief that people s time was better spent attempting to reach a peaceful afterlife. ... This second fact displays that religion was equally as important to his family as intellect. During the 16th century, Nicolaus Copernicus was a very influential astronomer, whom Galileo Galilei, an aspiring scientist in that field, admired and studied diligently. Copernicus theorized that the Earth rotated around the sun, also known as the heliocentric theory (Paolucci and Brophy). This was in contrast to the Ptolemaic theory (and Catholic doctrine) that everything else in our galaxy pivoted around the Earth. Galileo spent his life attempting to prove the Copernican Theory. In 1609, Galileo, using knowledge he gained from time in the Netherlands, improved on the previously invented telescope. He presented the new model to the Venetian senate in August. Using the telescope, he found a new star, one which was very supportive of the Copernican theory ( Galileo Galilei ). In Galilei s published writing, The Starry Messenger, he states the following: Here we have a fine and elegant argument for quieting the doubts of those who, while accepting with tranquil mind the revolutions of the planets about the sun in the Copernican system, are mightily disturbed to have the moon alone revolve about the earth and accompany it in an annual rotation about the sun. ... Imagination; a Human s Special Sence Essay Daimaly Gines 10/25/12 FD #3 Expos, Section Imagination: A Human s Special Sense Human beings have the ability to create their own individual worlds through imagination. However, the imagination is limited because of the constant use of technology and the reliance on vision. The technological culture has separated humans from the actual world and their senses; much like vision has done. In the essay The Eyes of the Skin: Architecture and the Senses , Juhani Pallasmaa focuses on the exploration of the senses and how they interact with one another. We also see his discussion on how vision can affect the human experience. The more visually capable we are, the more we begin to lose our sense of imagination. Similarly in the essay ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We see that our imagination comes into play when our vision is obscured. Without the sense of vision, our other senses quickly assume richness and power. This occurs to blind people such as Hull, who at the age of forty eight became completely blind. Sacks states that Hull speaks of how the sound of the rain, never before accorded much attention, can now delineate a whole landscape for him...it throws a coloured blanket over previously invisible things (304). In other words, we see that Sacks is showing us how strong Hull s imagination was after becoming blind. Just because Hull became blind, it did not mean that Hull s life was over. On the other hand, it was a new beginning for Hull. He was able to make use of his other senses and see how important they are. With Hull s imagination also came a sense of intimacy with his surroundings. He felt as though with his strong visual imagery, he had a strong sense of closeness, which evolves from imagining. The term delineate has a significant meaning in Sack s text because imagination is what led Hull to be able to portray the images precisely in his mind. Similarly, Pallasmaa states, anyone who has half woken up to the sound of a train or an ambulance in a nocturnal city, and though his/her sleep experienced the space of the city with its countless inhabitants scattered within its structures, knows the ... Religion and faith in African American Literature comes in many forms depending on the author, but generally, this theme tended to relate to the desire for freedom. Quite often authors wrote in prayer form, asking for God s assistance to help them make it through their time of misery, to help them get through life as a slave. Faith in African American Literature was vital to the unity of the African American slaves. The tale is exciting because it s based on a real event, the Gold Rush in Klondike, and describes in detail this unusual time in America s history. This story is written in third person with a specific emphasis on Buck, the main character. The third person point of view enables the reader to learn about all the characters and their surroundings. Because of these elements and a captivating plot, it is considered by some to be the greatest adventure story of all time. The setting of this tale greatly impacts the characters and the situations the characters encounter. Poor planning, inexperienced drivers, harsh terrain, and frigid weather lead to the extreme lack of supplies and food. The dogs and their drivers are almost always hungry and exhausted. These conditions also make their morale drop a great deal, which causes everyone to be desperate and irritable. The environment changes them not only physically, but mentally as well. It instills fear, depression, and hopelessness into them just imagine if you were in their paws! The main characters in The Call of the Wild are Buck, Spitz, Hal, and John Thornton. The protagonist in this story is Buck, the powerful hard working St. Bernard and Scotch Shepherd mix. There are two main antagonists, Spitz and Hal. Spitz is a vicious and arrogant dog that despises Buck because he challenges him for the lead dog position. They have several minor quarrels, but when their anger explodes, they have a very intense fight to the death, during which Spitz meets his untimely demise. The other antagonist, Hal, is an inexperienced and unskilled driver that doesn t know how to take care of the dogs. Hal misjudges the supply amount, so they run out of, well, everything. Temperatures, alloy concentrations and interaction parameters are variables being varied in this simulation. Increases in temperature led to an increase in entropy as well as a decrease in relative correlation of orders. The entropy and enthalpy of mixing both were affected by the alloy concentration, with a maximum of 50%. Lastly, the interaction parameter defined the type of bonds that were energetically favorable: for negative bond energies, the alloy consisted of intermetallic compounds whereas for positive bond energies, the two types of atoms had a tendency to cluster and thus phase separation occurred. When the bonding energy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although the substitution occurs randomly, an ordered structure can be obtained under certain conditions. For a binary alloy of A and B metals, there are two types of order: long range and short range. The first one measures the fraction of metal A atoms positioned on α sites and the second one is an indicator of the average number of B atoms surrounding an A atom. Depending on the energy of the bonds between the two metal atoms with each other and themselves, an alloy s ordered state will vary. The extent to which an alloy becomes ordered under certain conditions depends on which arrangement is more energetically favored, given by the state s Gibbs energy. For low temperatures, the Gibbs energy is proportional to the relative concentrations of the two metals and the bond strengths. Above a critical temperature, the entropy of the solution is dominant and long range order disappears while the short range order is present to a certain extent. [2] This temperature dependence has a significant impact on the applications of a certain material. The two main methods of studying the order and configuration of alloys are X rays diffuse scattering and Monte Carlo simulations. The former can be used to study individual sections (i.e. short range order) but is extensive as individual experiments on single crystals are needed. In order to study the ... A culture is the way in which certain groups behave, think, and what tangible objects they bring value to. The Colombian culture is profoundly influenced by the Spanish culture, but has many distinct factors that allow it to properly function. The first component of culture is symbols. Symbols are anything with significance and value shared by the people in a culture. A symbol most countries value is their national flag. The colors of the Colombian flag each symbolize a characteristic ideal for a strong country. The yellow horizontal stripe is a reference to the wealth in gold Colombia withheld before the arrival of Spaniards. The blue depicts the oceans lining the outer regions of the country. A second interpretation of the flag s blue color is the country s loyalty and consciousness. Lastly, the red reflects the bravery Colombians inherited during their victorious fight for independence as well as a recognition for those who lost their lives (Colombia s National Symbols, 2017). Another national symbol in Colombia is the Coat of Arms. The Coat of Arms is a national symbol of their motto Libertad y Orden which translates to Liberty and Order . The light is then detected by rods and cones, photoreceptors, which alters the light into electrical signals. I watched cooking shows too, and I would just read the cooking books for hours just to know if we had the ingredients ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Zoe s brother, Jason, perfectly summarized the two when he described Zoe as serious and pessimistic and Danielle as one who sees the glass half full. Their appearances also balance each other out, as Jason pictured Danielle as vivacious, with bright red curls, whereas Zoe is dark, but with eyes as bright as the ocean. When Jason described the two girls, he illustrated that even though both their looks and personalities are completely opposite, these yin and yang qualities are what bonded them together and created their mile deep friendship. Progressivism responded to the changes of the time period by enacting a series of social changes such as prohibition and women s suffrage. Martin Pernick, a history professor at the University of Michigan, key characteristic of the progressive movement was its belief that science would be able to address social problems (26). Pernick also relates progressivism with the development of modern propaganda in that propaganda presented information that would influence public opinion on an issue. Propaganda played a large part in popularizing eugenics among the public. Among other measures, exhibits were set up to present eugenic ideas to school groups and the general public, popular eugenics organizations were established to expose citizens to eugenic ideas, and articles were published for the average reader to present eugenics as logical and scientifically based (Allen, The Misuse... 115). • 32. Power Capacitors Essay ABSTRACT In the industrial sector the various motoring loads are continuously running and generating the inductive load. So the power factor in this system gets reduced due to the inductive reactive power. But the electricity board has a standard limits regarding the power factor values and if the power factor goes below the specified limit; the electricity company charges the penalty to the industrial consumers. The automatic power factor correction panel provides the required compensation to overcome the inductive reactance by using the power capacitors. The microcontroller PIC receives current signal from current transformer and simultaneously gives the signals to the various contactors to connect the capacitors in the line for the compensation. Thus by adding the capacitor to the line will compensate the reactive power and maintains the power factor near to unity. This will avoids the penalty to the industrial consumers and may get the incentives. In the conventional methods we were using the fixed capacitor for compensation. But these were leading to excessive charging of the capacitors causes the voltage surges. Thus it becomes difficult to main power factor near unity by on and off operation of fixed capacitor. The contactor switched capacitors are connected and disconnected automatically eliminating the previous problem. Approximately 3 million individuals within the United States are currently suffering from what was once and unknown and untreatable virus. Non A and non B hepatitis are two forms of the virus that were prevalent back in the 1970 s. It was commonly acquired via blood transfusion as well as through hemodialysis methods of renal failure patients (Klevens et al., 2012). It is the main filtering organ of the body and is involved in processes such a synthesis of plasma proteins, storage of glycogen for energy use as well as excretion, secretion and detoxification of products such as bilirubin, alcohol, cholesterol and drugs. Since the liver is the only organ to rid hemoglobin from the body, one of the most important functions it carries out is bilirubin metabolism. The heme component of hemoglobin is first converted to bilirubin by set of enzymes. It is then bound to albumin and transported to the liver hepatocytes where the enzyme uridyl diphosphate glucoronyl transferase converts bilirubin into water soluble conjugated form so it can be excreted into the intestines. If the hepatocytes within the liver are damage due to invasion of HCV, bilirubin will not be able to be excreted thus resulting in the buildup of bile. When bile builds up, the skin turn to a yellowish color called jaundice. This usually happens during the later stages of hepatitis (Sunheimer Graves, 2011). There are two phases of hepatitis C; acute and chronic. After exposure of HCV, 85 90% of both types of hepatitis are usually asymptomatic but symptoms can occur during the acute phase following a 2 12 week incubation period. Moreover, NaOH cannot replace Na2CO3 for it generally do not satisfy above requirements and very hygroscopic in nature. On the other hand, 0.05 M HCl is called the standard solution. An ideal standard solution[3] is (1) sufficiently stable to determine concentration, (2) reactive with the analyte so that the time required between additions of titrant is minimized, (3) completely reactive with the analyte so that satisfactorily end points are realized, and (4) selectively reactive with the analyte that can be described by a simple balanced equation. The standardization of the titrant aims to know the exact concentration of the titrant (its deviation from the measurement done). Two basic methods are used to establish the concentration of standard solutions: (1) direct method, in which a carefully weighed quantity of a primary standard is dissolved and diluted to an exactly known volume in a volumetric flask, and (2) standardization by titrating (a) weighed quantity of a primary standard, or (b) a measured volume of another standard solution. • 39. All Summer Is A Day By Ray Bradbury Many centuries after the first spaceship landed on the moon, a group of brave rocket men and women did the unbelievable. The short story All summer is a day , by Ray Bradbury, takes place in the underground city of the planet Venus where tunnels roamed instead of streets. The land above them was submerged with endless pouring rain and deadly jungles. The sight of the sun was a rare miracle that only happened once every seven years. The children spent all their life in the enclosed underground tunnels, well all except for one. Margot was the only child who came to Venus when she was four, and the biggest difference was that she still remembered the times when the glowing sun gave warmth and hope. Thesis Statement (1 3 sentences) Her past experiences and opportunities caused the children of Venus to be jealous of her. As a result, the children harassed Margot in disbelief. The gloomy, enclosed environment affects everyone greatly. The message of the story shows how the environment and the people around you can affect you because of their own lack of experiences. The author portrays this when the children harass the main character, he also uses craft moves to show isolation of the main character, and how depressed she is as a result. To begin, the author shows that the harassment Margot goes through is due to the children lack of knowledge about the sun since they have spent their whole life on Venus. Throughout the day, Margot brings back memories of the sun. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Effect Of Activated Yeast On Hydrogen Peroxide The Effect Of Activated Yeast on Hydrogen Peroxide Kashish Pandey Lekha Pillarisetti, Ruth Rauca, Jason Tran Period 1; 21 October 2015 Abstract The topic of this lab is on biochemistry. This experiment was conducted to show how cells prevent the build of hydrogen peroxide in tissues. My group consisted of Lekha, Ruth, and Jason. There were used two different concentrations of hydrogen peroxide through this experiment , 1.5% and 3%. By testing two different types it is easier to understand how the H2O2 and catalase react with one another. To do this both the yeast, which was our catalase, and H2O2 were mixed together in a beaker. Each concentration was tested out twice for more accurate results . 1.5% concentrated H2O2 had an average reaction rate of 10.5 seconds while 3% concentrated H2O2 had an average reaction rate of 7.5 seconds. From this experiment we learned that by increasing the concentration of H2O2 and chemically combining it with a catalase it will speed up the reaction. Enzymes speed up chemical reactions . The independent variable in this experiment was the concentration of the H2O2. Some key vocabulary words are Catalase, enzyme, hydrogen peroxide ( H2O2), and concentration. • 41. Descriptive Essay About Breakfast Every morning, my son Pete wakes up at 6:30 AM. I have 2 ½ hours to get us both ready for the day, which seems like it should be plenty of time. But each day the nanny arrives at 9, and I m never ready to leave! So I started making these freezable breakfast sandwiches to help me get out the door faster. I m a personal chef, so I m really fast in the kitchen. Before I had Pete, I never really understood why people said that they didn t have time to cook breakfast in the morning. Scrambling an egg takes no time at all! But now I realize, you have to clean the pan, the spatula, your plate, and also eat the eggs with a fork in your kitchen, all while trying to wrangle the baby in the other arm. In this new reality, minutes matter. Finding a quicker breakfast solution So I wanted a quicker and cleaner way to get my fuel in the morning. While oatmeal and granola can be nice occasionally, my go to breakfast will always include eggs. They give me longer lasting energy, plus I almost always prefer savory to sweet. I needed a way to have my eggs quickly, without having to do any of the actual cooking in the morning. Ideally, something that could be made in a big batch and frozen in individual portions. Strata was an early contender. This Vegetable, Egg and Cheddar Strata recipe is one I make for clients often and it freezes beautifully. But there s a lot of up front prep, a long cook time, and it still requires a plate and fork. I also considered quiche, my personal brunch favorite. It didn t make the cut for the same reasons. So then I started thinking of the breakfast sandwiches they serve at Starbucks. They re pre made, pretty tasty, and always hit the spot when I need a quick breakfast. I decided to make my own version that I could enjoy at home for a third of the price per sandwich. The beautiful thing about these breakfast sandwiches is that they are completely customizable. Ham, sausage, bacon, turkey bacon, and veggie sausage are all great options. Cheddar is my favorite cheese choice, but you can use any sliced cheese that melts well. You can even mix cooked veggies into the eggs to increase your morning fiber intake. Once you get the overall method down, it s easy to switch it up. Cooking the Eggs ...
