Metaphors In Dante s Inferno
Dante Alighieri was one of the most inspiring Italian poets in the middle ages. One of his greatest
writings is about the afterlife, from the depths of Hell in his own made Inferno, into the mountains of
Purgatory and in the ever lasting spirits of Heaven called the Paradiso. But my main focus on this
essay is what in Dante s life inspired him to write like he did, particularly his Inferno. Questions and
history may lead us to believe that was it was his love, war or political view that shaped him as an
artist. There is a gap in his history with some unknowns for the simplest things like what was his birth
date. But some metaphors from his Divine Comedy may answer these questions.
Even today, Dante is inspiring artists with his writings and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Florence at this time being a loathed, despised, derogated community with corruption and discard,
Dante Alighieri lived most of his days working on his writings that will last hundreds of years. Church
versus independence of the city states gave Dante the motivation to get involved of becoming a
member of political governing body. In this time Florence has split into two parties, Guelphs who
support the pope and Ghibellines that support the Roman Emperor with the need of more freedom.
Dante was part of the White Guelphs and fought in war of his cause but with seeing life and death in
the horrific battle of war, this may have lead to vision of his own Hell. Dante was exiled from the city
by Black Guelphs or else he would be burned to the stake in result of his family having to split apart
leaving behind his wife Gemma Donati and his four children. Dante spent 20 years drifting from city
to city thinking about his long lost love Beatrice who was once a childhood sweetheart and also his
writings that would be for nothing without his mentor Brunetto Latino. Eventually Florence granted
amnesty to Florentines in exile but required to pay a large fine, Dante just preferred his drifter days in
exile with no plans to return to

Identifing Market Segments and Target
IDENTIFING MARKET SEGMENTS AND TARGET Market segmentation is the division of the
total market into relatively homogeneous, but distinct segments. It is used to identify target audiences
and strengthen a campaign s effectiveness in reaching selected segments. Segments usually respond to
campaign elements differently and different techniques are required to reach and motivate various
segments. We will discuss Market Segments and Targets, and we will know: What are the different
levels of market segmentation? How can a company divide a market into segments? How should a
company choose the most attractive target markets? What are the requirements for effective

Gender Role Stereotypes In Boys And Girls By Alice Munro
In Alice Munro s Boys and Girls, she tells a story, through narration about society s profound
unfairness of gender role stereotyping, and the effect this has on the stages into adulthood is presented.
On society, many women battle ideas, beliefs and stereotypes placed on being a woman from what
roles they play in society to how they should act and what roles they play in society they begin to feel
trapped within these ideologies and they conform. We are not all the same it s like, trying to fit a
square peg in a round hole . The main conflicts in the story are the different expectations between a
girl and a boy, but also the struggle for a young girl to find an identity of her own. Through the
internal struggles and battles of the main character, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Within this story about a family business is a deeper meaning something we can all relate to in one
form or another. We all want to please our parents and make them proud. There always comes a point
where our views become different from theirs. This is something that is hard to deal with. We want our
parents to accept us for who we are but, that may not always be the case. A gender battle brews in this
story and as the story builds it becomes stronger and stronger. To be a girl is something that is almost
looked down upon. Making it hard for this young girl to come to terms with the fact that she is a girl
and that is okay. The pressure from her mother to be in the kitchen with her haunts this young girl. She
sees this as a negative because she doesn t feel close with her mother or trust her. Her mother wants
her to help her in the kitchen and for her brother to take over the work she does in the barn. The main

behavior. Retail environmental factors is one of these factors. This literature review seeks to identify

In addition, a manual search was conducted in order to find other relevant studies and, from this
process, 2 studies was found relevant. Overall, 9 studies were included in this review.
Thematic analysis
After a process of individual analysis of the selected studies, the articles were grouped together
according to recurrent themes that emerged from the findings. In this literature review, three major
themes were identified which include; window displays, music and shop crowding.
Finding
Window displays
In relation to window display, three studies reported that there is a positive relationship between
consumers buying behavior and window display (Ali Hasnu 2013, Karbasivar Yarahmadi 2011 and
Tendai Crispen 2009). According to Ali Hasnu (2013, p.7) consumers buying decision is influenced by
the physical attractiveness of store displays. Consumers develop their first impressions by the store
displays which emotionally attract them to the product and buy that product (Ali Hasnu 2013, p.7).
Similarly, Tendai Crispen (2009, p. 107) reported that attractive window displays increases sales as
consumers purchase unplanned products. Moreover, the finding of Karbasivar Yarahmadi (2011) study
indicated that window display has strong effect on encouraging consumers to buying more and
enjoying their shopping time. In order to trigger shopping among consumers, store managers must
ensure attractive store displays (Ali Hasnu 2013, p. 7).

What Are The Similarities Between Grendel And Beowulf
Burton Nathan Raffel was born on April 27, 1928. Raffel loved education, and obtained many degrees
which included his bachelor s, master s, and J.D. These degrees were obtained from very prestigious
colleges and universities such as Brooklyn College, Ohio State University, and Yale University. In
1964 Raffel recorded an album in conjunction with Robert P. Creed and Folkway Records. The album
they recorded was entitled Lyrics from the Old English ; Raffel got his translation of Nibelungenlied
published through Yale University Press. Raffel not only translated other artist work but, he was an

Burton Raffel had to really understand these stories and their meanings behind them to translate them
into what the authors had originally wrote and intended the story to be. The original writings are not
written in Morse code they are just written from a different time period and in a different language that
we in modern society are not accustomed to. Raffel was extremely intelligent and had the skills and
capabilities that not everyone has, he had background knowledge of those periods and can interpret
many languages. Those traits and skills are what have given us an accurate translation of the story
without completely butchering the author s art and intentions. He has this thirst for education that has
driven him to learn the details and basically show us points of views that we would not have originally

Raffel did not destroy or change the work of the author which is hard to do especially because he
could not use his personal feelings while attempting to understand it. He had to step in their shoes and
write what he best thought they would have written in our

A Separation of Church and State Ensures our Individual...
Religion has no place in politics, therefore, church and state must remain separate if we are to preserve
our individual freedoms. The United States of America is a land of great diversity and a nation built on
equality. In order to explore religion and politics in America, we must first begin with our country s
roots in 17th century Europe. At the time there was heavy conflict, over religion, involving the
Catholics and the Protestants of England. They were two different religions, but they shared a
common belief. Both shared the principle that there should be one religion, everyone should be forced
to follow it, and that government should enforce it. Therein lay the problem, how can there be only
one religion when there are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some states even had official state supported churches. All was still not equal when it came to
religion. So how then were we any different than England? We were no different, pure and simple.
The right to to worship as you choose was lacking, and the religious persecution had followed our
citizens across the pond .
Religion was such a hot button that a person could be executed for following the wrong one,
depending on your geographical location in the colonies. Violence was not in short supply, as religious
differences led to much bloodshed. Definitely not the sunshine lollipops and rainbows version of our
nation s history, as it is painted for us in primary school. In New York City, on July 12, 1871, violence
erupted between Catholics and Protestants. It lead to the death of 62 colonists, and another 100 were
injured. Theses riots, the Orange Riots, were a prime example of how little progress we had made
toward religious freedom in the colonies. What subject could lead to such violence? Why it was all
about the Bible in Public Schools, of course. Colonists were discriminated against, tortured and
executed all under the umbrella of religious differences. Aside from the violence, religion elicited in
colonial times, civil rights were also not what they are today. Laws were passed over the next several
decades, to prevent Catholics from owning anything, worshiping, and educating their young. We were
an intolerant group, it would seem,

The Woman In Black Analysis
How does the author make the first encounter with the Woman in Black particularly ominous?
The author, Susan Hill, makes the first encounter with the Woman in Black distinctly foreboding by
her use of description, sound and Mr Kipps s apparent innocence. The Woman in Black is described as
suffering from some terrible wasting disease which makes her skin only the thinnest layer of flesh [...]
strained across her bones . Immediately, the reader is given some clue about her health. It seems, from
the description, that she is on the verge of death. This association with death instantly makes the
representation of the Woman in Black creepier. Phrases like sunken back and gaunt with disease are
used to warn the reader and stop them pitying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most people tend to pray at funerals, particularly in the Victorian era when religion was a highly
significant part of people s lives. She is also quite late, arriving halfway to the end of it and then
disappearing before the cortège. There is also the obvious factor that it seemed particularly strange
that a woman who was perhaps only a short time away from her own death, should drag herself to the
funeral of another . To a reader, this seems decidedly minatory, since it is incredibly unlikely that
someone about to breathe their last would go to Mrs Drablow s burial, especially as Mrs Drablow was
known for having no close friends or family and the only other people at her funeral (besides the
Parson) were her solicitors. Lastly, on the off chance she just didn t have a prayer book and actually
was Mrs Drablow s long lost relative or forgotten friend, as Mr Kipps clearly believed, she
disappeared with a slight rustle of clothing . Finally, there is Mr Kipps s reaction to his first encounter
with the Woman in Black. Of course he didn t know she was the Woman in Black; instead he saw her
as a young woman who was about to die but kind enough to see her friend off. Indeed, he vowed to
speak to her [to see if he] could be of any assistance . Susan Hill makes him pity the Woman in Black,
yet warns the reader with short sentences like Nor did she look old , followed by abnormally long
sentences, joined together with three or four commas, as if contradicting Mr Kipps s earlier thoughts
in a way that can only be interpreted fully by the

Raising The Red Lantern By Zhang Yimou
The 1991 Chinese film Raise the Red Lantern, directed by Zhang Yimou, demonstrates power
relations within the household in 1920 s upper class Chinese society and uses them to challenge the
dominant patriarchal ideologies through a critique of Chinese social culture while also reinforcing the
idea that tradition is ultimately the most powerful and thus the relations of power in the household. By
culture I am referring to Raymond William s definition of culture as lived cultures and signifying
practices. Lived cultures being the particular way of life held by a particular group of people that can
be seen in literature and holiday practices. And signifying practices as meaning making practices such
as music, poetry and T.V. dramas (Williams R, 1983). The particular definition of ideologies I ll be
using is the masking, distortion or concealment of particular ideas and images of reality, giving a false
consciousness or a blind acceptance of notions (Storey J, 2015). The underlying theme of the movie
Raise the Red Lantern and this essay is politics. Specifically the social politics within the household
and how tradition dominates these relations. In 20th century China, Sun Yat sen tried to change

The Impact Of Historical Globalization In Canada
The legacy of historical globalization on the Aboriginal community is still a very much relevant issue
in Canada. Although historical globalization interconnected different countries and nations, it gave
birth to imperialism and colonialism. As a result of this, legislations such as the Indian Act was
implemented. The Indian Act was passed by the Canadian government in 1876 in an attempt to
assimilate First Nations into mainstream society. In an attempt to erase the Indian in the First Nations,
first Prime Minister Sir John A. Macdonald implemented a policy of aggressive civilization which led
to publicly funded Indian Residential Schools. At the time, anyone from the ages five to fifteen years
old were forced to go to a Residential School. A total of one hundred and fifty thousand children was
sent to these school s, however, the negative impact wasn t limited to these people. The effects of
Residential school and Indian Act still resonate for the generations that followed. The systems that the
Canadian government use to assimilate the First Nations such as the Indian Act and Residential
schools left a huge impact on the Aboriginal community. Social problems, such as abuse, alcoholism,
suicide and poverty are only a few of the issues that sprouted from the effects of historical
globalization. The Canadian government s effort in trying to reconcile with the First Nation can be
seen through the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, the amendment of the Indian Act, and the Truth

Identity And Cultural Identity
A cultural identity explores and explains how our place of upbringing, ethnicity, religion,
socioeconomic status, and family dynamics among other factors creates our identity as a person. Even
facts such as what activities we took part in as a child can be part of cultural identity. During the
process of writing my second paper for my English class in my first semester of college, my professor
asks this question several times; Who are you? This exercise I believe she is trying to use to show that
people are multifaceted beings; meaning there are different aspect of individual s life that shape them
into who they are. It is not just based on one particular aspect of their life that define them. Ethnically,
I identify myself as a Yoruba girl (an ethnic group in the western part of Nigeria). Writing this self
identity paper has engaged me into thinking about the factors that are woven together to define my
identity and how and where they each play their role. Culture, in addition to family traditions is one of
the factors that define my self identity as well as affect my self identity. For facts record, my
nationality is Nigerian but my ethnicity is Yoruba. I have not really been conscious about the role my
ethnicity played or is playing in terms of my identity until that busy Monday morning at high school
on the 14th of march, 2016. I was a bit late than usual on this very day. As I was running on the stairs
to beat the time so I could get to my first period before the clock that stands for late clicked. I was
halfway through when one of the students that usually stay by the stairwell every morning paying less
attention to the clock stopped me abruptly. Without any greetings he said, sorry to ask, but what are
those mark on your face; are those scars from an accident? this question was not only sudden for me,
it sends a shock through my body like they are being electrocuted. The only answer I was able to give
him at that moment was, they are tribal mark before I picked up my pace again. My classes for that
day all went in a blur because the question I was asked earlier that morning switched on a part of me I

Alcan Case Analysis Executive Summary Like many of its competitors and comparable manufacturers
in the discrete and process metal production, process metal and service related businesses, Alcan is
continually challenged with how to unify their diverse business units and processes to gain
competitive advantage. The dynamics of many process related industries include growing through
mergers and acquisition, which has also been an area that continues cause Alcan challenges from an IT
perspective as well. Alcan s critical business processes and strategies include sourcing the best
possible materials, approving and working with suppliers, while also negotiating with them for the
best possible price. Of the many raw materials the company relies on, Bauxite is the most strategically
important across the business units Alcan operates today. During the time period of the case study,
Alcan generated $23.6B in revenue, operated in 61 countries and had 68,000 employees. They had
grown aggressively through acquisition, creating approximately 1,000 duplicate systems, with 400 of
them being just for pricing. Given this massive duplication of IT resources, Alcan pays SAP AG
hundreds of millions of dollars a year in maintenance fees alone. These are the key factors of the case
and set the foundation for the assessment of the pros and cons of the current Alcan IT infrastructure.

Capital Gains and Dividends
Capital Gains and Dividends Under a source concept of capital gains, the business is the source from
which gains flow; how does this differ from the trust concept of income from a business? The trust
concept of income from a business indicates that the business is being managed in a particular way.
When a business is in trust, there is a requirement that it be managed ethically (Unit 2, n.d.). That
includes the income the business receives. This is very different from the way a standard business is
run, because a trustee operates the business and is in charge of managing the income that comes from
the business while it is in trust, along with other aspects of the business (Unit 2, n.d.). Overall, the
income that arrives at a business while it is in trust is under much more scrutiny than income that
comes into a standard business. While it is not taxed any differently than regular income, there is more
scrutiny regarding it. Additionally, the capital gains concept is changed when the business is in trust,
because the trustee and the business are not the same entity. Even if the business is making money,
that money may not be able to be classified and taxed in the same way as it would be without being in
trust (Unit 2, n.d.). What is the reasoning for excluding inter corporate dividends (drd s)? Inter
corporate dividends are seen differently from other types of dividends, capital gains, and income.
These kinds of dividends have been subject to double taxation

FSEM FINAL PAPER: OPTION 2 Chapter 1: I m Chevy Chase and You re Not A classic American
icon, Chevy Chase had an incredible career brimming with accomplishments and tribulations. The
time spanning from 1975 to 1985 was a period in which America idolized Chevy, a man who cruised
through life with the perfect blend of cynicism, contempt, and charm. Looking back, Chevy is
considered one of the most hated comedians in the world, a close runner up to Bill Cosby; however,
nobody can deny Chevy s influence in comedy in film, the development of SNL, or even the younger
generation of comedians who aspired to be like him. Since his start as an overnight star on SNL,
throughout his movie star days, and as a sitcom cast member, Chevy has repeatedly made headlines;
he has ...insulted and assaulted co workers, spouted racist, misogynistic, and homophobic views, and

A Summary Of The Dominicans Controversy
As mentioned above, the first missionaries who arrived in Taiwan were Dominicans. They brought
with them a considerable experience of evangelization, arriving as protagonists of the Chinese Rites
Controversy . The Chinese Rites Controversy erupted in the 17th century and was not resolved until
the 20th century, when Pope Pius XII issued an instruction entitled Plane compertum est, which
allowed Chinese Catholics to participate in civil ceremonies honoring Confucius and the familial
dead. By definition, the term Chinese Rites does not refer to any indigenous Chinese ritual, but to
three specific customs. First, periodic ceremonies performed in honor of Confucius, in temples or halls
dedicated to the well respected Chinese philosopher. Second, the veneration of the familial dead, a
practice found in every social class and manifested by various forms of piety including prostration,
incense burning, food serving, etc. Third, the missionary use of the terms Tian (天 heaven) and
Shangdi (上帝 lord of heaven) to convey the Christian concept of God. ... Show more content on

Rocking Infant Poor And Unlucky Travelers By Jonathon Swift
Writing of devouring infant poor and unlucky travelers, Jonathon Swift satirically writes of the
tyranny of England. The 18th century began with a great struggle between Ireland and England. The
world power of England encroached on the rights of the Irish including monitoring their right to their
own parliament and regulating their trade clearly benefitting the English. England had left Ireland
starving and impoverished. Jonathon Swift, an author at the time, wrote several essays intending to
spite the English and call the Irish to action to fight this oppression. The Irish did not respond. Terry
Eagleton and Daniel Coleman s theories prove that in his attempt to move Ireland to action Swift in
actuality pacified their need to rebel again the encroaching English. His literature provided the
humanization to prevent violence, the information to prevent further action, and the vicarious
experiences that fulfilled the peasants for retribution. It will be my pleasure to discuss, as Derrida
would argue, that because Swift s essays can be centered on both sparking and abating an uprising the
structure of the essays have been destroyed and therewith their meaning. Eagleton said, If masses are
not thrown a few novels, they may react by throwing up a few barricades. (Eagleton 45) Eagleton is
speaking here about the start of studying English as a subject, but would not Swift s essays have the
same effect? Eagleton states that there is something humanizing and assuaging about

Difference Between Fishbein And Ajzen s Theory Of Behaviour
According to Ajzen s (1991) theory models, behavior is depend to the behavioral intention. There are
three factors which influence the behavioral intention, which are the attitude towards behavior,
subjective norms and perceived behavior control. Attitudes are a complete mental state involving
belief, feelings, values and temperament to act in certain ways. A subjective norm is the sanctions of
certain behavior of one or more individuals about their perception and the extent how the behavior
will mould up the perception. Perceived behavioral control refers to an individual s perception
regarding the extent of control he or she has over a particular behavior. According to Fishbein and
Ajzen (1975), the rating by an individual for an event will be either positive or negative. This
evaluation can affect an individual s attitude. Furthermore, Bobek (1997) expressed that attitude of an

Culture has many definitions, and it affects everything people do in their society because of their
ideas, values, attitudes, and normative or expected patterns of behaviour. Culture is not genetically
inherited, and cannot exist on its own, but is always shared by members of a society (Hall 1976, p.
16). Hofstede (1980, pp. 21 23) defines culture as the collective programming of the mind which
distinguishes the members of one group from another , which is passed from generation to generation,
it is changing all the time because each generation adds something of its own before passing it on. The
social capital literature has shown that socially held beliefs can shape not only collective actions but
government and economic performance (North 1981; Knack and Keefer, 1997; Landes, 1998; La
Porta et al., 1999; Putnam, 1993). Indeed, La Porta et al. (1999:223) argued that some societies are so

Langstone Hughes Harlem
At first glance, the poem Harlem by Langstone Hughes appears to be just a simple poem about
thwarted dreams and desires. However, this poem is much more than what it first appears to be. This
simile drenched poem is actually a reflection of the constant struggles for acceptance and equality
faced by African Americans, during an era when racism played a large part in the average mindset of
society. The title of this poem is named after a predominantly African American neighborhood in
uptown Manhattan. This neighborhood acted as a sort of sanctuary for the African American people, in
a racist society. The people who lived in Harlem had far more opportunities to freely express
themselves and to escape segregation. Langstone Hughes s cleaver

Black Diggers Dramatic Meaning
The Queensland Theatre Company s Black Diggers dramatic meaning is to highlight the racial
prejudice that Indigenous soldiers faced in the time period surrounding World War II and call to
attention the lack of remembrance and appreciation for Indigenous soldiers actions. The dramatic
meaning is effectively portrayed to the audience through the manipulation of the elements of drama,
the components of collage drama and acting skills.
The dramatic meaning of Black Diggers is communicated to the audience through the effective use of
the dramatic element symbol. This is seen when a small list is compiled of Indigenous soldiers,
reminiscent to the one at the Australian War memorial. This portrays the dramatic meaning, as this is
the only form of remembrance for the Indigenous soldiers. Secondly, symbol is utilised used through a
flame that is lit through the whole performance. This flame represents that the discrimination ... Show

These components include juxtaposition and direct address to the audience. Juxtaposition is seen when
The Last Post overshadows a didgeridoo, when the Indigenous serviceman returned from war. This
enhances the dramatic meaning as it is conveying that the wider white community overlooked the
actions of Indigenous soldiers. Also, the Last Post is still played today and thus communicates that
there is still prejudice now. Secondly, use of direct address to the audience developed the viewer s
understanding of the dramatic meaning. This is evident as a past soldier is describing the effects of
war and his journey through World War I, and speaking as if the audience were at the event. This
grasped the audience on a personal level and made the address more meaningful. It is through the use
of components of collage drama; juxtaposition and direct audience address that the dramatic meaning

Design A Safety And Longevity Bridges
In designing the bridges, an engineer need to completely understand the problem to be solved. To
design a safety and longevity bridges, they have to consider different types of loads, how and where
they need to apply the load. They also have to undergo several steps that usually need in designing
bridges such as understanding the problems, determining the potential loads of bridges, calculating the
highest possible loads and calculate the amount of material need to counteract the loads.
Retrofit is one of the important features of maintenance. It is can be defined as upgrading or
strengthening the bridge structural quality to enhance the performance of the bridge. Strengthening
and retrofit methods are different from the repairing and it includes a component host. Most bridges
are in need for the retrofit and strengthening every 15 years. There are a lot of strengthening methods
like steel pre stressed girders, micro piles, pile caps, extended footings, abutment wall, wall piers and
column bent pier. Other than that, there are also concrete deck repair by patching, epoxy injection,
silica fumes and salvaging of existing railing and beam where it is customary to retain the existing
ones. If demolition needs to be conducted, extra care is strictly prohibited so that the features that
required for continuity are not damage.
There are a few ways to retrofit bridge structure to prevent it from collapse. It is because these

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Pedicle Screw Anchorage
The use of pedicle screw instrumentation in the spine has evolved over the last two decades. The
preliminary use of pedicle screws began in the lumbar spine. As surgeons became more comfortable
with the complex anatomy required for accurate screw placement, the use of pedicle instrumentation
has evolved to include their use in the thoracolumbar and thoracic spine. The impetus behind their
increased use is a result of the many advantages that pedicle screw anchorage offers over traditional
hook and rod constructs. Improved deformity correction and overall construct rigidity are two
important advantages of pedicle screw instrumentation due its 3 column control over the spinal
elements. First, pedicle screw instrumentation precludes the need to place instrumentation within the
spinal canal with its inherent risk of neurologic injury. Second, the placement of pedicle ... Show more

The And Talent Retention Is Happiness And Workplace...
In any work environment, it is important for all levels of management, including executives and
owners, to consider the working environments for those within the organization or company. The
unofficial secret to longevity and talent retention is happiness and workplace satisfaction. There are
many ways for organizational leaders to promote happy, healthy working environments; the trick is
finding the right combination that works for their particular group of workers and their particular work
environment. Different methods work for different industries and people so it is a matter of trial and
error to find the right fit. There are employment laws in place to ensure fair work practices occur
however, employers should go the extra mile to take care of those who make their business succeed.
According to the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland (2009), responsibility rests with each
employer to provide and promote a good and harmonious working environment (p. 3). Making sure
workers are happy can only have positive effects for the company but it is a multistep process that
requires commitment from ever manager involved. Coming up with ways to increase worker
satisfaction is only part of the work; implementing these policies and making it come to life is the
challenge and the greatest responsibility. For example, employers creating a diverse environment can
lessen feelings of discrimination. Any opportunity to represent the workers best interest will always

Early Dismissal Of High School Students
Another way that early dismissal of senior student would be beneficial is financially. Students have to
balance work along with school and extracurricular activities, have an even more difficult time
earning good grades, and handling responsibilities. Many students are responsible for paying for their
own clothing, shoes, car, gas, athletic fees and equipment, and in unfavorable situations, they must
help support their family. A part time job is a great way to earn some extra income; one in four high
school students hold a steady part time job (Coppernoll). Additionally, students might learn to be more
mature through the responsibility of having a job.

Senior year has so many responsibilities, activities, and obligations, that adding unnecessary classes
are a major misuse of senior s time. Electives are great classes that everyone should have the chance to
experience throughout high school; however, the demanding tasks that are a part of senior year are far
more important. Athletics, jobs, and extracurricular activities are important parts of high school
students lives, but they do come with added stress. To help relieve some of the stress, school boards
should consider allowing students to capitalize the hours that are not spent on requisite classes.
Between work, scholarships, sports, clubs, and school work, students have plenty to keep them off the
streets and out of trouble. Along with benefiting students in the present situation, this would also
prepare students for the upcoming college schedule. This would give seniors a glimpse of how college
life will look like, and how they would need to manage their time. If students have all the required
classes complete, they deserve the free time for which they have earned. Not only are the senior
students benefited, but also the school in its entirety. With less students in the halls, there would be
little congestion during passing periods and lunch. This would allow the whole school to run smoother
and more efficiently. Overall, releasing senior high school students would

Maybe this was the actual start of The Turn Of The Screw . At the time the book was written it was the
late 19th century, Victorian era; and at the time Victorians were fascinated by ghosts a perfect reason
to write a psychological ghost story. The Victorians were convinced ghosts were dangerous though,
evil spirits believed either to get them, to possess the living or to do the devil s work. People in the
19th century were also intrigued by the after life, including what happened when you actually died.
Henry James family was also included in this. This would give Henry James a perfect reason to write
the novella aimed at a huge proportion of people who would be actually interested in reading a book
involving ghosts. As The Turn of the Screw was written in the 19th century when most of his family
were famous and praised for their study of the mind and investigations into spirit phenomena, this
could have inspired Henry to write the story. The fact that his older brother was famous and successful
man when it came to psychology and physiology may have contributed to sibling rivalry. Henry had
written novels that hadn t sold well and had written plays that were far too intellectual for many of the
general public to even watch. Writing a psychological ghost story in a spirit obsessed era when his
family were renowned for their knowledge seems to be best explanation as to why the novella was
written. The whereabouts of the actual tale has real evidence because in one

  • 2. Metaphors In Dante s Inferno Dante Alighieri was one of the most inspiring Italian poets in the middle ages. One of his greatest writings is about the afterlife, from the depths of Hell in his own made Inferno, into the mountains of Purgatory and in the ever lasting spirits of Heaven called the Paradiso. But my main focus on this essay is what in Dante s life inspired him to write like he did, particularly his Inferno. Questions and history may lead us to believe that was it was his love, war or political view that shaped him as an artist. There is a gap in his history with some unknowns for the simplest things like what was his birth date. But some metaphors from his Divine Comedy may answer these questions. Even today, Dante is inspiring artists with his writings and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Florence at this time being a loathed, despised, derogated community with corruption and discard, Dante Alighieri lived most of his days working on his writings that will last hundreds of years. Church versus independence of the city states gave Dante the motivation to get involved of becoming a member of political governing body. In this time Florence has split into two parties, Guelphs who support the pope and Ghibellines that support the Roman Emperor with the need of more freedom. Dante was part of the White Guelphs and fought in war of his cause but with seeing life and death in the horrific battle of war, this may have lead to vision of his own Hell. Dante was exiled from the city by Black Guelphs or else he would be burned to the stake in result of his family having to split apart leaving behind his wife Gemma Donati and his four children. Dante spent 20 years drifting from city to city thinking about his long lost love Beatrice who was once a childhood sweetheart and also his writings that would be for nothing without his mentor Brunetto Latino. Eventually Florence granted amnesty to Florentines in exile but required to pay a large fine, Dante just preferred his drifter days in exile with no plans to return to ... Raffel loved education, and obtained many degrees which included his bachelor s, master s, and J.D. These degrees were obtained from very prestigious colleges and universities such as Brooklyn College, Ohio State University, and Yale University. In 1964 Raffel recorded an album in conjunction with Robert P. Creed and Folkway Records. The album they recorded was entitled Lyrics from the Old English ; Raffel got his translation of Nibelungenlied published through Yale University Press. Burton Raffel had to really understand these stories and their meanings behind them to translate them into what the authors had originally wrote and intended the story to be. The original writings are not written in Morse code they are just written from a different time period and in a different language that we in modern society are not accustomed to. Raffel was extremely intelligent and had the skills and capabilities that not everyone has, he had background knowledge of those periods and can interpret many languages. Those traits and skills are what have given us an accurate translation of the story without completely butchering the author s art and intentions. He has this thirst for education that has driven him to learn the details and basically show us points of views that we would not have originally see. I am a fan of his work because during my research I found many critics who had agreed that Raffel did not destroy or change the work of the author which is hard to do especially because he could not use his personal feelings while attempting to understand it. • 9. A Separation of Church and State Ensures our Individual... Religion has no place in politics, therefore, church and state must remain separate if we are to preserve our individual freedoms. The United States of America is a land of great diversity and a nation built on equality. In order to explore religion and politics in America, we must first begin with our country s roots in 17th century Europe. At the time there was heavy conflict, over religion, involving the Catholics and the Protestants of England. They were two different religions, but they shared a common belief. Both shared the principle that there should be one religion, everyone should be forced to follow it, and that government should enforce it. Therein lay the problem, how can there be only one religion when there are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some states even had official state supported churches. All was still not equal when it came to religion. So how then were we any different than England? We were no different, pure and simple. The right to to worship as you choose was lacking, and the religious persecution had followed our citizens across the pond . Religion was such a hot button that a person could be executed for following the wrong one, depending on your geographical location in the colonies. Violence was not in short supply, as religious differences led to much bloodshed. Definitely not the sunshine lollipops and rainbows version of our nation s history, as it is painted for us in primary school. In New York City, on July 12, 1871, violence erupted between Catholics and Protestants. It lead to the death of 62 colonists, and another 100 were injured. Theses riots, the Orange Riots, were a prime example of how little progress we had made toward religious freedom in the colonies. What subject could lead to such violence? Why it was all about the Bible in Public Schools, of course. Colonists were discriminated against, tortured and executed all under the umbrella of religious differences. • 10. The Woman In Black Analysis How does the author make the first encounter with the Woman in Black particularly ominous? The author, Susan Hill, makes the first encounter with the Woman in Black distinctly foreboding by her use of description, sound and Mr Kipps s apparent innocence. The Woman in Black is described as suffering from some terrible wasting disease which makes her skin only the thinnest layer of flesh [...] strained across her bones . Immediately, the reader is given some clue about her health. It seems, from the description, that she is on the verge of death. This association with death instantly makes the representation of the Woman in Black creepier. Phrases like sunken back and gaunt with disease are used to warn the reader and stop them pitying ... She is also quite late, arriving halfway to the end of it and then disappearing before the cortège. There is also the obvious factor that it seemed particularly strange that a woman who was perhaps only a short time away from her own death, should drag herself to the funeral of another . To a reader, this seems decidedly minatory, since it is incredibly unlikely that someone about to breathe their last would go to Mrs Drablow s burial, especially as Mrs Drablow was known for having no close friends or family and the only other people at her funeral (besides the Parson) were her solicitors. Lastly, on the off chance she just didn t have a prayer book and actually was Mrs Drablow s long lost relative or forgotten friend, as Mr Kipps clearly believed, she disappeared with a slight rustle of clothing . Finally, there is Mr Kipps s reaction to his first encounter with the Woman in Black. Of course he didn t know she was the Woman in Black; instead he saw her as a young woman who was about to die but kind enough to see her friend off. Indeed, he vowed to speak to her [to see if he] could be of any assistance . Susan Hill makes him pity the Woman in Black, yet warns the reader with short sentences like Nor did she look old , followed by abnormally long sentences, joined together with three or four commas, as if contradicting Mr Kipps s earlier thoughts in a way that can only be interpreted fully by the ... Capital Gains and Dividends Capital Gains and Dividends Under a source concept of capital gains, the business is the source from which gains flow; how does this differ from the trust concept of income from a business? The trust concept of income from a business indicates that the business is being managed in a particular way. When a business is in trust, there is a requirement that it be managed ethically (Unit 2, n.d.). That includes the income the business receives. This is very different from the way a standard business is run, because a trustee operates the business and is in charge of managing the income that comes from the business while it is in trust, along with other aspects of the business (Unit 2, n.d.). Overall, the income that arrives at a business while it is in trust is under much more scrutiny than income that comes into a standard business. While it is not taxed any differently than regular income, there is more scrutiny regarding it. Additionally, the capital gains concept is changed when the business is in trust, because the trustee and the business are not the same entity. Even if the business is making money, that money may not be able to be classified and taxed in the same way as it would be without being in trust (Unit 2, n.d.). What is the reasoning for excluding inter corporate dividends (drd s)? Inter corporate dividends are seen differently from other types of dividends, capital gains, and income.
