Eddie Koiki Mabo Case Study
Eddie Koiki Mabo, Torres strait islander from Mer (Murray) island, is notorious for his reputation
with the battle against the Australian High Court. The 1992 high court Mabo decision did establish
genuine changes for Indigenous involving land rights and relationships; however, these changes were
neither substantial nor lasting.
Aboriginals concept of land is different compared to the Europeans view of land being an economic
resource or investment, but to indigenous land is so much more, it is a part of their identity and soul.
But when settlers came they classified the land as terra nullius which is Latin term for land belonging
to no one . soon enough aboriginals had no control over their land or even their own properties until
the 1900s where aboriginals fought for the land but didn t receive anything but small victories in the

Literary Analysis Of Woman In A Purple Coat
For this analysis, I will be using Woman In A Purple Coat by Henri Matisse (1937), oil on canvas.
1937 was a turbulent year globally. From the Hindenburg blimp exploding, to the Japanese invasion of
China, and the disappearance of Amelia Earhart. Many events happened that year that would forever
alter the course of history. Henri Matisse, an eclectic soul, would make his mark upon 1937 as well
with Woman In A Purple Coat. This piece would cause all who came before and after him to rethink
how they would make their legacy, as Matisse moved the bar to previously unobtainable heights
through this work. The first thing you notice in Matisse s painting is the purple coat that Lydia
Delectorskaya, his lover of many years, is wearing. This coat, an exotic Moroccan costume, with its
bold and vivid color, jumps right out at its viewers. While Lydia reclines for her pose, the vase of
flowers and fruit on the table in the foreground become apparent to the audience. As do the bold
shapes and patterns that are on the walls, with their incredibly bright colors, outlined with thick lines.
The lines Matisse used creates a certain symmetry within the frame. His perspective lines give order
and dimension to an otherwise visually busy art work. Henri used bold, thick lines to create definition,
even using the back end of the brush to scrape away paint to leave exposed canvas to create his
effects. Matisse was a pioneer within his profession. He was often criticized for his lack of

Shellfish Allergies
Shellfish can cause an Allergic Reaction. These reactions can be caused by certain species of shellfish
or all shellfish, you can be allergic to fish and not shellfish or vice versa. In the following pages I will
cover shellfish allergies, shellfish species, the types of reactions and the treatment options as well as
coping with the allergy.
What is a Shellfish Allergy?
A shellfish allergy is an allergic reaction caused by contact with or consumption of shellfish. An
allergic reaction to shellfish can range from mildly uncomfortable to life threatening and while some
food allergies diminish or go away with age a shellfish allergy is typically a lifelong allergy that can

A Shellfish Allergy can affect your life in many ways. When going out to eat the sufferer must be
aware of their surroundings if they are sensitive to the proteins in steam from cooking shellfish as well
as cross contamination. Avoiding all contact is the best way to avoid a reaction. According to FAAN,
There appears to be no cross reactivity between fish and shellfish, but an individual can be allergic to
both. Fish and shellfish allergic individuals should avoid touching fish or shellfish, going to a fish
market, and being in an area where fish or shellfish are being cooked. Fish and shellfish protein can

Essay On King Kamehameha
Effective Leader Essay Hawaii is now known as a tropical paradise, but it wasn t always so simple.
Thousands of years ago the islands were constantly fought over. Until one day, Kamehameha the
Great conquered all of the islands becoming Hawaii s first king. As Hawaii s first king, Kamehameha
led his own path. Kamehameha was an effective leader because he was intelligent, was an effective
communicator, and adapted to new ideas. One reason why Kamehameha was a good leader was
because he was intelligent in a way that others weren t. As sandalwood grew in popularity
Kamehameha knew he had to preserve the sandalwood trees for future generations. This led
Kamehameha to place a kapu on the young sandalwood trees, so they would be saved for the future.
This was one of the many new changes Kamehameha made to the islands. Placing a kapu on the trees
was a beneficial change because not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kamehameha traveled overseas to sell sandalwood, but soon learned he could not make a profit due to
port fees. Then all of the sudden Kamehameha decided to take the idea of port fees back to Hawaii.
This idea that Kamehameha brought back with him was a great change. With the idea of port fees, the
Hawaiian s made profits that benefited their communities. The port fees proved to be extremely useful
due to the fact that dozens of ships docked at Hawaii as a stopover.
Kamehameha was an effective leader because he was intelligent, he was an effective communicator,
and he adapted to new ideas. Throughout his rule, Kamehameha was able to achieve a profitable
business, a beautiful island, and a kapu to help future generations prosper. Therefore he was respected,
wealthy, and powerful. Kamehameha was able to bring peace to Hawaii in his time, and he created a
base for us to work off of. Without Kamehameha the islands would never have been pieced together

Evaluate two (2) key changes in the selected company s management style from the company s
inception to the current day. Indicate whether or not you believe the company is properly managed.
Provide support for your position.
A management style is a complete process of leadership used by managers within Coca Cola. The
success that the management team at Coca Cola has in inspiring its employees to meet their objectives
is built on the management style they adopted. There are three main management styles that Coca
Cola use, which are democratic, autocratic and the laissez faire style.
The democratic leadership style consists of the leader, sharing the decision making skills with the
group associates by encouraging the benefits of the group members and by practicing social fairness.
This stresses on group agreements to produce new ideas. Democratic happens when all managers,
junior managers and employees are involved in the idea and the final decision process. Democratic
style is the management style that Coca Cola has adopted, which involves empowerment, and allows
individuals and teams the responsibility of decision making, usually within a given framework. The
authoritarian leadership style keeps strict, close control over its followers by keeping close regulation
of the policies and procedures given to the followers.
The laissez faire style is sometimes described

Introduction: Nike was founded under the name Blue Ribbon Sports in 1964. In 1972 the first pair of
sports shoes was sold and experienced enormous growth and achieved a 50% market share within the
sports shoe market in the US only eight years later. After sluggish focus and growth in the 1980ies,
Nike experienced strong growth in the 1990ies and cemented the position as global recognizable

McAfee of Harvard Business School has said: What Nike and i2 Technologies Inc. began experiencing
the problem actually is not the software itself... The culprit there was misspecification Further on the
subject of customization, Nike had great difficulties balancing customization with speed to market. I
believe the external factors of significant competition, changing market place and resulting
disappointing financial performance in growth markets lead Nike to rush the implementation and
interfered with normal OBB. The rushing meant that a guideline, templates and implementation
methodology was discarded by Nike with the argument that the i2 provided material was too rigid. In
general I would argue that Nike required technology that was not sufficiently available at the time.
This pushed i2 to enter unknown software territory and program to order disabling sufficient time for
vendor/developer testing. The criticality of this was further boosted due to lack of testing from Nike,
which clearly illustrates faults in phase 4 of the implementation as well. (Appendix 3) Lastly, I find
evidence that a global ERP and SCM software potentially would be difficult to manage successfully at
the time due to the structural issue of underdeveloped bandwidth infrastructure , which could indicate
Nike required a technical solution which was not

The Mating Intelligence Scale, And The Flirting Style Test...
Personality Portfolio Personality tests offer an opportunity to learn more about psychology and about
oneself. I have just completed the Jung type sorter, the Big five inventory, the mating intelligence
scale, and the flirting style test. I had taken both the Jungian Type Sorter and the Big Five Inventory
previously, but now have a better understanding what my scores mean. The Mating intelligence and
Flirting Styles tests were both novel to me, I enjoyed these two tests the most, but have doubts about
the accuracy of my responses to questions. Jungian Type Sorter My Jungian type was Extraverted,
Intuitive, Feeling, and Perceiving, or ENFP. Alternatively, INFP due to a low preference for
extraversion over introversion (3% vs 1% respectively). Reading through the descriptions of both
personality types I cannot say that either align terribly well with my own self judgement. The
experience is reminiscent of reading a horoscope; I can easily identify with about half of the claims
made, while a quarter are slightly off the mark, and the remaining are dead wrong. Considering though
that the descriptions must be written to encompass scorers at both extremes of the scales, this doesn t
necessarily indicate a lack of validity in the model itself. The website lists some famous ENFPs.
Assuming their assessments are valid, it is certainly gratifying to be likened to Mark Twain, a man
whose gruff compassion I have always admired. Buster Keaton, a childhood favorite of mine, is an

Essay On Artifice
People have been like sheep under wrongful and deceptive shepherds and it will continue to be like
this whether we like it or not. We have been a species of conflicts and war, and it would have only
been a matter of time for someone to master the skill of artifice to persuade the masses to favor their
agenda. Humanity is more productive when we all agree to something, and the use of artifice can
influence the way we all think. This expertise can be wielded by those who are good or bad. This can
be frightening when that skill is mastered by those who intend to utilise it for deceptive purposes.

Citizens have been misled to think alike to change the way of society and the world. A more familiar
example to many would be the influence artifice had in Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union back in
World War Two and other wars before that. Unfortunate citizens have been exposed to the power of
artifice by tyrants to keep the war effort going. Propaganda was used in almost every nation
undergoing war. The United States have also taken part in this to help resist despicable nations from
rising. The effects afterwards were shown to be drastic. It s obvious to see the effects the second world
war has done to society. Hate groups grow like tumors in the general public, families have been torn
apart, and nations can not be seen the same way as before. The use of artifice has changed the way we
live our lives today, it just goes to show that it can be proven to be a very vital skill to wield. Some
would hope that this was only a thing of the past and that it would not be a part of our lives.
Unfortunately, this skill did not disappear over the years, but instead it has only begun to blossom into
our present

had a fence when you go inside there was an open area where you can observe a lot of Material
Culture but the one that people would appreciate most was a big figure of the lady of Guadalupe the
mother of Jesus Christ full some people put beautiful flowers, also more towards the building was a
concrete cross figure laying down with the image of Jesus Christ on a wood cross, the building had an
old look, really small looking, rectangular base with 2 small square rooms on the top in the front side
with a lot of open rectangular holes and a big bell in side, also there was a cross figure on the top, thy
entrance door was big and made of wood, the floor the ceiling and benches inside were wood also, on
each beach there was space for 4 to 5 people to sit and had a cushion part on the bottom, on the walls
there were full of images on each side close to altar there was a big image with a small table with a
notebook and pen: left side was a man and right side there was Guadalupe were people writes their

Age Discrimination in the Workplace Essay 2
Age Discrimination in the Workplace
Age discrimination in employment is a complex issue which impacts many areas of Government
policy and has many implications for individuals themselves. Age discrimination can occur across all
spectrums of employment and can affect both young and old. Age discrimination can affect a person s
chances of getting a job, and potentially their chances of promotion or development within the
workplace. Age can also be a factor when employers are deciding who should be selected during a
workforce downsize or redundancy of work due to a mergers and acquisitions. Age seems to be more
of a common issue in the workplace than racism or sexism. Approximately 20% of all complaints filed

The same login applies to promotions and transfers. An employer may want to shed itself of its older
workers to cut costs (Age discrimination in the workplace, 1999). The Civil Rights Act does not make
age discrimination illegal, but Congress has since enacted another law, the Age Discrimination
Employment Act of 1967 (ADEA).
The ADEA is administered by the EEOC, and similar in most respects to the Civil Rights Act. Both
disparate treatment and disparate impact charges are possible. The Act protects workers 40 years of
age and older. A 45 year old who applies for a job and is rejected in favor of a younger worker can
claim disparate treatment. The employer will then have to show that the younger worker was better
qualified or provide some nondiscriminatory reason for its decision. An employer could argue that it
paid a newly hired younger worker more than an older current employee because this was necessary to
attract the younger worker to the job. In disparate impact cases, employees must show that the entire
protected group (workers 40 and older) is affected by the employer s practice and not just some part of
the protected group (workers over 60, for example) (Player, 14).
The law does allow age to be considered a bona fide occupational qualification (BFOQ) more easily
than it does sex, but still this defense is relatively narrow. An employer has to show that

Use of Symbolism and Foreshadowing in Flannery O Connor s...
The Use of Foreshadowing and Symbolism in A Good Man is Hard to Find When an author writes a
story, he or she will generally use different writing techniques to create the piece. These techniques
have the ability to turn a story into something truly unique, as they allow the story to unfold in it s
own way. In the short story A Good Man is Hard to Find , author Flannery O Connor used the
techniques of symbolism and foreshadowing throughout the entire piece to create a deeply captivating
story, as so many of the details mentioned in the beginning of the story are glimpses of the end. The
foreshadowing in A Good Man is Hard to Find can be seen almost immediately. Within the first
paragraph, the protagonist known as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is very specific foreshadowing, because in the end of the story, all five on the trip die, and it
seems that will lead to the end of their family line. O Connor also explains how the Grandmother
dressed for the trip; she wore a navy dress, white gloves, and a formal hat. The reading states In case
of an accident, anyone seeing her dead on the highway would know at once that she was a lady. (O
Connor 496). Not only is this foreshadowing, but the grandmother s outfit can also be seen as a
symbol of her skewed moral code and selfishness. When the grandmother carefully chose the outfit for
this trip, she was solely concerned with how she would appear in the event that she died on her trip.
She was not at all disturbed by the fact that, in the event that there was an accident, her son and
grandchildren would die as well. In the same paragraph that discusses the grandmother s outfit, the
colors red, blue, purple, and green are introduced. These colors are mentioned for the first time when
discussing the grandmother s clothes and the mother s kerchief, and they repeated throughout the
entire story. A connection can certainly be seen with the grandmother s blue dress, because when the
reader is first introduced to The Misfit, he is wearing blue jeans, and after his sidekicks kill Bailey,
they take his shirt embroidered with blue parrots. It may not be easy to pick up on the repetition of
these colors, but they are most

Social Status In The Great Gatsby
The American Dream varies for everyone, however, hard work, determination, and the desire to
achieve that dream are key factors that have played a role in the American Dream since it was first
thought of. Jay Gatsby in Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby, is a prime example of achieving that
American Dream because Gatsby worked hard and was driven as he moved up the hierarchy from
transitioning from poor to rich. However, there are many who assume that the American Dream is a
myth purely due to their belief that no one can ever truly be successful in obtaining the American

It is true that Gatsby didn t fully accomplish his American Dream because he wasn t able to get Daisy

Analyzing Crime Statistics Essay
Crime statistics endeavor to provide statistical measures of crime in societies. They provide a point of
analysis and comparison, allow countries to form long term patterns and trends and can help to
develop and reform criminal justice policies as well as being more meaningful than raw numbers.
Using the countries of Bahrain and the United States as a comparison point for the following issues
which surround crime statistics such as biases, agendas and general influences like education and
religion; this essay will be focused around analysing the statistical factors and wider influences which
can allow a country to have low or high crime rates. Definitions of what exactly constitutes being a
crime differ not only across countries but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So for any kind of comparison of crime rates to work at all, it is crucial that the definitions of crimes
and the categories they are placed in are similar. The next issue with definitions is that even the
different organizations that compile crime statistics differ within their own definitions. INTERPOL for
example defines murder as: Any act performed with the purpose of taking human life, excluding
abortion but including infanticide (and including attempts).(Kalish, 1988)
While the World Health Organization (WHO) does not distinguish between intentional or
unintentional homicides but does not include attempts under this organization attempts fall under a
separate legal distinction(Kalish, 1988). And again, the United Nations have a different definition for
homicide: Death purposely inflicted by another person, including infanticide. (Kalish, 1988)
Due to major issues with the above topics across all countries, due to definitional and categorical
differences, crime statistics can differ significantly.
In Bahrain, crimes against the individual are ranked in relation to the seriousness of the offence,
murder, attempted murder, murder by error, assault, threatening and others. In the United States,
offences are not classed separately, but into broad categories which are homicides, robberies and
assaults. Bahrain does not report rape as a single category and in response, no reports of rape have

Veiled Sentiments By Lila Abu-Lughod
Throughout Veiled Sentiments, Lila Abu Lughod mentions ghinnawas that the Bedouin women use.
However, it wasn t until I read chapters 7 and 8 that I was able to perceive the full effect of why the
Bedouins value theses poems so much. These poems are called little songs and are women s way of
expressing what they truly feel without being judged by society. For example, as I mentioned in
discussion 12, at the end of chapter 7, Abu Lughod told a story of Mabruka, a woman who was about
to welcome a co wife. Polygany was a cultural norm within Bedouin society, so it wouldn t have been
appropriate for Mabruka to object to it. It also would ve shown romantic attachment, which was
frowned upon. Hence, she said that she didn t care. Yet, even while she was posed this uncaring
attitude, she would sing ghinnawas about feeling betrayed. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This allows insight into what is important to people in Bedouin society. Lila Abu Lughod gives
examples of ghinnawas about star crossed lovers, divorce, arranged marriage, polygyny, and many
other ghinnawas related to love. All of these areas are associated with modesty, or hasham, and are
taken very seriously. For instance, when the one of the girls mentioned in the book wanted to marry
another man and was upset that she had to marry the man that she did, she ran away. She came back,

brother in law heard about her Ghinnawas, he realized that she actually was unhappy. This solidifies
Lila Abu Lughod s point that was mentioned in nearly every chapter that modesty is important to the
Bedouin society, as it is what the women choose to think of and express thoughts and feelings about.
Furthermore, what is sang in these songs are meaningful to those who hear them because they truly

Motif In The Invisible Man
Paper as a motif, in the Invisible Man carries a significant amount of power among oppressed people,
changing their observed appearance or derailing their future. Paper is a recurring motif the the
Invisible man, whether it be a newspaper, letters, or money; All of these items are extremely delicate
items, but carry such a large weight in this time period. Money is obviously used for purchasing items,
in a time when mainly the rich were white people, but also the people on the physical bills were white
men. Newspaper was the number one way to receive information, and almost everyone read it daily,
specifically the Wall Street Journal was the most desired paper of white trade brokers. Finally, letters

The janitors who lived in the Men s House Purchased a Wall Street Journal religiously and carried it
beneath the left elbow (247). In order to provide an appearance of knowing what is going on, and to
look like the white men on Wall Street, these common oppressed people would buy a newspaper
specifically for a sign of class. The newspaper is physically so delicate and is easy to destroy, but it
carries a significant weight as being a sign of class, in which mainly the white people hold because it
is usually them with this specific paper. This shows the overarching idea of the time that blacks are
inferior and should try to be like white people. Juxtaposingly the letters from Bledsoe ruined the IM s
appearance in the eyes of many white business owners in turn did not get him hired. Even though
Bledsoe initially promised the IM I ll give you letters to some of the school s friends to see that you

The Dramatic Impact of Act 1 Scene 3 in Shakespeare s Othello and Its Importance to the Whole Play
Othello is a tragic play by Shakespeare, set in Venice during the Elizabethan time. It portrays the
growth of unjustified jealousy in the noble protagonist, Othello, a Moor serving as a general in the
Venetian army. The innocent object of his jealousy is his wife, Desdemona. In this domestic tragedy,
Othello s evil lieutenant Iago draws him into mistaken jealousy in order to ruin him. Othello is
destroyed partly through his gullibility and willingness to trust Iago and partly through the
manipulations of this villain, who clearly enjoys the exercise of evildoing just as he hates the spectacle

The main action that occurs at the beginning of this scene is the meeting between the Duke and the
senators of Venice, in the council chambers. Council meetings are usually held during the day; but the
fact that it is night time now, makes the audience think that the topic of this meeting is so important
that the council members cannot wait till it is morning to discuss it. This strategy used by Shakespeare
motivates the audience to focus on the scene.
The purpose of this meeting is to decide the future of one of the Venetian colonies, Cyprus. Cyprus is
a trading island, where merchants from all over the world come to trade and therefore Cyprus has
become the target of the Turkish fleet to conquer, as Turkey has an interest in Cyprus s wealth in this
meeting. It is to be decided what the Venetian s will do to protect their colony from the imminent
attack of the Turkish fleet. The Turks are non Christians and therefore considered to be malevolent
during the era, and anybody who s not white and a Christian, were always associated with evil.
Shakespeare subtly introduces the theme of racial discrimination on the grounds of religiously.

The Genius Of Sir Isaac Newton
History has had its fair share of phenomenal scientists, but none can overshadow the genius of Sir
Isaac Newton. Isaac Newton was born on January 4, 1643. His father died before he was born and he
lived in Colsterworth in Lincolnshire with his grandparents and three siblings. Isaac Newton was
know to be quite secluded as a young boy. Young Newton had a knack for model making and art, for
example, he made a working model of a windmill at some point in his childhood. He also made other
things such as dolls furniture and water clocks. Isaac s grandparents sent him to king s school in
grantham. At the age of eighteen, Newton attended Cambridge. He was a major contributor to the
scientific revolution alongside numerous other great scientists ... Show more content on

Newton s discoveries about gravity all began while he was sitting under an apple tree. one of the
apples fell from the tree making him begin to think about what caused the change in acceleration and
velocity in the apple. Newton s law of universal gravitation states that Every object in the universe
attracts every other object with a force directed along the lines of centers for the two objects that is
proportional to the product of their masses and inversely proportional to the square of the separation
between the two objects . This law indicates that all objects in the universe are constantly pulling
against each other. This law began to work wonders in not only his own laws and discoveries, but also
in the finding of Johannes Kepler and his laws of planetary motion.
This law of gravity coincides perfectly with Johannes Kepler s laws of planetary motion. His first law
state that The orbit of a planet about the Sun is an ellipse with the Sun at one focus . This means that
all planets orbit in ellipses around one of two focuses being the sun. The second focus forms a more
oval shaped orbit because it is an area of lesser gravity that the planet slightly strays from the
magnitude of the gravitational pull of the sun. This first law can be clearly seen in the solar system
earth is currently in. Kepler s second law explains that A line joining a planet and the Sun sweeps out
equal areas in equal intervals of time This

Death Of A Salesman Is A Tragedy In The Sense That It...
Death of a Salesman is a tragedy in the sense that it displays the consequences of commitment of one s
life towards an idealistic goal such as the American Dream. Willy Loman fails to see that he is an
unsuccessful salesman and to escape that harsh reality, he constantly reminisces his past. Which beg
the question, is Willy Loman a tragic hero? He may not be a conventional tragic hero but he indeed
had a downfall however, he wasn t in a distinguished position to say the least. He was everybody yet
simultaneously, nobody.
It could be argued that the author Arthur Miller, made him a hero when society decided he was
useless. Thus, it leads to his death. I don t say he s a great man. Willie Loman never made a lot of
money. His name was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People could ve also argue that Biff Loman was a tragic hero who was also worth no more than a dime
a dozen but he undergoes to a form of emotional release upon Willy s death as he is rid of his father s
hopes for him and is at a position of greater understanding and is empowered. Why am I trying to
become what I don t want to be ... when all I want is out there, waiting for me the minute I say I know
who I am. (Miller). Willy was not able to achieve his dreams of success, and so he projected his
dreams onto his son Biff. But Biff was beginning to see the reality and the deception involved in the
system. If Biff s disillusionment were to become universal, then a change would take place in the
system.
I believe that Willy Loman can be considered a tragic hero, and was intended by his author, not in the
sense as his individual self but as a representative. Willy Loman represents millions of working
American men who end up on the when they become too old to be of value to their employers. Willy
Loman by himself is too insignificant of a character to be considered a tragic hero, but if we think of
him as being multiplied by the millions who preceded him and who will follow the same path, then his
fate becomes tragic by the sheer weight of numbers. It becomes obvious that Arthur Miller intended
Willy to symbolize workers under capitalism. They start off full of hopes, dreams, and enthusiasm
when they are young, but most of

The Positive Effects Of Violence And Violence In Video Games
Henry Jenkins states that the worst thing a kid can say about homework is that it is too hard. The worst
thing a kid can say about a video game is that it is too easy, meaning the harder the game, the better
the experience. The Psychological group reports that more than 90% of children in the U.S. play video
games. Among the kids between the ages of 12 and 17, the number rises to 97%. Eighty five percent
or more of video games on the market contain violence. CBS says that within reviewing more than
150 research papers, the task force found a consistent relationship between the games and the increase
in aggressive behavior. August 12, 2013 Adam Lanza shot 26 people in Newtown, Connecticut at
Sandy Hook Elementary school. Investigators went looking around at addresses in Adams GPS to find
out that he went to a theatre quit often and found out that he went to a theatre and played one specific
arcade game every time he showed up. A few times the manager had to unplug the game just to have
him leave the theatre before closing. Violent video games are active while watching tv is passive.
People learn better when they are actively involved. Players of violent games are more likely to
identify with a violent character. Violent games directly reward violent behavior such as by awarding
points or by allowing players to advance to the next games level. In some games, players are rewarded
through verbal praise such as hearing the words Nice Shot! after killing the enemy. It is well known
that rewarding behavior increases its frequency. The video game industry is the fourth largest
entertainment industry in the world. Many as 97% of U.S. kids age 12 17 play video games,
contributing to the $21.53 billion domestic video game industry. More than half of the 50 top selling
video games contain violence. In 2008 video game sales peaked with almost 300 million units being
sold. Of that amount 28% were rated teen by ESRB (entertainment software rating board) and five
percent rated mature. In 2004, teen related games made up 33% of all games manufactured and
produced while mature rated made up 12%. By 2007 teen rated made up only 20% and mature made
up six percent. While the numbers of violent video

Assisted Suicide Or Physician Aid For Dying ( Pad ) Is...
While many Americans assume assisted suicide or physician aid in dying (PAD) is unethical, they may
not be fully aware of what it is and how it helps people. Imagine a loved one of yours was near the end
of their life. The doctors predict only six months or less remain of their life and these next six months
will consist of excruciating pain and will be almost too unbearable to comprehend. As the six months
progress this person will lose the ability to eat. They will be forced to a diet of flaky ice chips which
will put them in a state of relentless hunger making their body weaker and more painful than it had
been before. They will also lose the ability to care for themselves and will find themselves relying on
family members or complete strangers at times to care for their most private needs. After all this
treatment, pain, embarrassment, and utter helplessness the patient will feel as if they have lost their
dignity, they will feel as if they are a burden to everyone around them and will even become depressed
in some cases. If the loved one lives in Washington State, Oregon, or Vermont they will then be faced
with two options regarding the next six hypothetical months they can decide to take on the most
unbearable six months of their life or they can resort to an alternative called Death with Dignity in
which they will be administered a dose of medication from their physician that will take their life.
The process is painless and can only be administered to patients

Testicular Cancer
Testicular Cancer
Testicular cancer is a Cancer that develops in the testicle. Usually only one testicle is affected, but in
some cases both testicles are affected. Testicular cancers starts in the cells that develop into sperm,
which are called sperm cells. (Australia, 2015).
It is a cancer that commonly occurs in men. Young men around the ages of 18 to 40 are most at risk of
developing testicular cancer. Common symptoms of testicular cancer includes a lump in the testis, the
feeling of heaviness in the scrotum and the change in the size and shape of the testicles. Across the
Australian demographic, survival rates for testicular cancer have increased in the recent years during

(Blecher, 2014) This is usually found in 3 to 5 boys in every 100. Men with a history of undescended
testes have about ten times the chance of testicular cancer; the risk may be lower if surgery is used to
fix the problem which usually happens before one year of age. (Blecher, 2014). Another risk factor, is
previous testicular cancer. This affects about 1 in 25 men who have had testicular cancer in one testis
develop cancer in the other testis . (Blecher, 2014). Previous male infertility is also another risk factor
in testicular cancer. It is shown that Men diagnosed with fertility problems, particularly those with a
history of undescended testes, may have a greater chance of developing testicular cancer . (Blecher,
2014). This is due to pre cancers cell sometimes found in testicular biopsies from infertile men
(Blecher, 2014), however this does not conclude that all pre cancer cells will develop into cancer.
Furthermore, family history is also considered as a risk factor. Testicular cancer can also be through
family and therefore if a family member is diagnose with the cancer, there is a minor risk that
someone else is also going to get it. Men who suffer from Down syndrome will also be at a higher
genetic risk of testicular cancer due to genes mutation.

Differences Of Ashoke And Ashima In The Namesake
Ashima in The Namesake remembers her family after giving birth to her baby boy. She seems to be
happy for her new born baby and this shows that she has no problem with new American identity. But
soon she craves for Indian style celebrations in the hospital. Ashoke and Ashima both miss their
family life in India. Their transparent and unproblematic identities become problematic when Ashima
requests Ashoke to finish his degree as soon as possible because she wants to go back. She tells
Ashoke that she does not want her son to grow up in America. I am saying I don t want to raise Gogol
alone in this country. It s not right. I want to go back (22).
This desire deeply affects their identities and their situation becomes difficult. On the surface their
identities are clear because they are adopting new identities and forgetting the old ones. But in reality
they are unable to forget their older identities. Identities of immigrants are not transparent; they are
unclear, creating problems for them.

Frank Sinatra Success
No one will argue against Frank Sinatra s success in the music industry. An Academy Award winner,
11 time Grammy winner, and a Peabody recipient, Frank Sinatra led what many consider a successful
life. Although he died wealthy, married, and famous, one must wonder if Frank Sinatra was truly
happy? Sinatra was known for mood swings which often resulted in fights, and had attempted suicide
multiple times ( 8 Things you didn t Know about Frank Sinatra ). Just because Frank Sinatra was
outwardly successful, does not mean he was happy. Many believe that success is rooted within
monetary gain. That to be wealthy is to be successful, or to be powerful, but I believe that holistic
success has little to do with one s net worth but rather one s happiness. By extension, success and
happiness do not directly correlate. Success is not necessarily monetary gain or popularity, but rather
self fulfillment and happiness with one s achievements and choices.
As the 19th century English poet, Robert Browning, puts it, Better have failed in the high aim, As
I/Than vulgarly in the low aim succeed . In other words, Browning believes that it is more important
to fight for achievements that do not only better oneself, but effect change on a deeper level are more
honorable, in contrast to the quest for personal gratification. The secular pursuit of wealth or success
does not always result in one s life changing for the better. The job promotion you have been eyeing

Gandalf the Mischiefmonger Essay
If people tried to make an argument that J.R.R. Tolkien didn t used Norse mythology as a backbone
structure when writing The Hobbit in 1937, they would be without a doubt completely wrong. Many
creatures were pulled straight from the Norse myths and thrown into his famous story, but did he use
some of the Norse gods as structures for his characters as well? In the book The Letters of J.R.R.
Tolkien, he states that Gandalf is seen almost as an Odinic Wanderer , comparing him to Odin the
Allfather (Carpenter, C. Tolkien, J.R.R. Tolkien). Rather than Odin, though, another almost unlikely
god could fit the part of Gandalf s basis, and that would be the trickster god, Loki, son of Laufey and
Farbauti. Loki, without a doubt, would be an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They demand that he uses his not so noble tricks to return the goddess, along with her cherished
apples. Gandalf is not an outright liar, though he does slightly bend the truth throughout the story. He
is the reason that Bilbo is referred to as the burglar, as he puts the sign on the Hobbit s door himself.
Gandalf told the throng If I say he is a burglar, a burglar he is, or will be... (Tolkien 49). His intentions
for lying are more beneficial than Loki s reasons, though he is still manipulating the idea of Bilbo
being a burglar, convincing Thorin and Co. that Bilbo has experience with thieving. Before they take
off for their long journey, Thorin says to Bilbo, Aren t you the burglar? And isn t sitting on the
doorstep your job, not speak of getting inside the door? His words show that he has some form of faith
in Gandalf s white lie about the hobbit being a thief, even though Bilbo had never stolen anything in
his life. Both Gandalf and Loki are gifted with magical abilities, and they rely their magic as well as
their wit to solve their problems. In the myth The Building of Asgard s Wall , the builder (or rock
giant), offered to build a wall around Asgard and for his payment, he wanted Freyja s hand in
marriage, along with both the sun and the moon. Odin turned to Loki for a plan, and he suggested to
give the builder six months rather than the eighteen months that he originally demanded. The builder

Influence Of English In The Japanese Language
2. English in the Japanese language
2.1. Adaption and Integration: Influence of English on Japanese Language Use
It has been many years since English was first introduced to Japanese society. In the progress of the
19th, 20th and 21st century, the English language was a continuous but varying influence on the
Japanese language and its culture. The result of this centuries long process is a Japanese language that
contains more than its fair share of English loanwords.
Although most Japanese people, even those of older age, are familiar with a lot of English loanwords,
this does not necessarily mean they are familiar with English. In my personal experience, I witnessed
a Japanese woman struggling to find the English word for elevator , despite ... Show more content on

These words, which are taken from English and used functionally in Japanese conversation primarily
by native speakers, often have an already existing, possible common Japanese equivalent. Therefore,
these loanwords could be considered redundant and quite double to an outsider. However, in certain
situations, the English word is greatly preferred, whereas the Japanese word would stand out strangely,
for reasons which will be thoroughly discussed in this section. These English loanwords in Japanese
language have been dubbed double loanwords , for the sake of creating an understandable and clear
term, specifically for this paper.
Notably, there are two domains where these double loanwords appear in Japanese speech; fashion and
food. These domains are not coincidental, as both have been heavily influenced by foreign culture.
Japanese fashion and Japanese Western style cuisine, or youshoku 洋食, are inspired largely by their
French, English and American equivalents. Although these Japanese styles do originate in Western
influence, they have been made their own by the Japanese fashion industry and the Japanese

Media And Gender
In an age dominated by media, it is almost impossible not get sucked into and internalize the things we
see before us. This begins as early as infancy. Studies have shown that 74% of children under the ages
of two watch TV ( TV and Kids Under the Age of 3 ). This continues throughout a person s life, and
continues to shape them. The usually stereotypical images and characters shown in media can have
many detrimental influences on persons, particularly children and young adults, such as low body
image, eating disorders, and increased aggressive behaviour. In order to shape a better tomorrow, it is
imperative that the media people see better reflection of men and women to avoid the aforementioned
side effects, and to socialize the children of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, this is not the case. There are ways to break the cycle to slowly change the media one sees,
therefore giving them the potential to change the society around them. In order to change some of the
female stereotypes perpetuated in film and TV shows, one primary answer is to include more women
into the creation of these shows. Having female workers has been shown to produce more balanced
female roles, The presence of women in behind the scenes positions of control...who correlated with
more major female characters and female characters who were more multi dimensional (Erigha, 86).
In her article, Content Analysis of Gender Roles in Media: Where we are Now and Where Should We
Go , Rebecca Collins concurs with this statement in her implication that girls may require the
representation of other girls to identify with, and therefore to learn from them (Collins, 292).
Including women in the creation of the shows is important, however it is only a stepping stone into
fixing the larger problem. In her novel Feminism Matter: Debates, Theories, Activism, author Victoria
Bromley explains where one must go to find the root of the

  • 2. Eddie Koiki Mabo Case Study Eddie Koiki Mabo, Torres strait islander from Mer (Murray) island, is notorious for his reputation with the battle against the Australian High Court. The 1992 high court Mabo decision did establish genuine changes for Indigenous involving land rights and relationships; however, these changes were neither substantial nor lasting. Aboriginals concept of land is different compared to the Europeans view of land being an economic resource or investment, but to indigenous land is so much more, it is a part of their identity and soul. But when settlers came they classified the land as terra nullius which is Latin term for land belonging to no one . soon enough aboriginals had no control over their land or even their own properties until the 1900s where aboriginals fought for the land but didn t receive anything but small victories in the 1970s until a ... For ten years Mabo fought against the Australian judicial system, he led his patriots against extreme odds in order to achieve what was rightfully theirs, in the end they did win even though Mabo passed away 5 months before, he did create change involving land rights, relationships and attitudes as well as laws following Mabo. • 3. Literary Analysis Of Woman In A Purple Coat For this analysis, I will be using Woman In A Purple Coat by Henri Matisse (1937), oil on canvas. 1937 was a turbulent year globally. From the Hindenburg blimp exploding, to the Japanese invasion of China, and the disappearance of Amelia Earhart. Many events happened that year that would forever alter the course of history. Henri Matisse, an eclectic soul, would make his mark upon 1937 as well with Woman In A Purple Coat. This piece would cause all who came before and after him to rethink how they would make their legacy, as Matisse moved the bar to previously unobtainable heights through this work. The first thing you notice in Matisse s painting is the purple coat that Lydia Delectorskaya, his lover of many years, is wearing. This coat, an exotic Moroccan costume, with its bold and vivid color, jumps right out at its viewers. While Lydia reclines for her pose, the vase of flowers and fruit on the table in the foreground become apparent to the audience. As do the bold shapes and patterns that are on the walls, with their incredibly bright colors, outlined with thick lines. The lines Matisse used creates a certain symmetry within the frame. His perspective lines give order and dimension to an otherwise visually busy art work. Henri used bold, thick lines to create definition, even using the back end of the brush to scrape away paint to leave exposed canvas to create his effects. Matisse was a pioneer within his profession. He was often criticized for his lack of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When going out to eat the sufferer must be aware of their surroundings if they are sensitive to the proteins in steam from cooking shellfish as well as cross contamination. Avoiding all contact is the best way to avoid a reaction. According to FAAN, There appears to be no cross reactivity between fish and shellfish, but an individual can be allergic to both. Fish and shellfish allergic individuals should avoid touching fish or shellfish, going to a fish market, and being in an area where fish or shellfish are being cooked. Fish and shellfish protein can become airborne in the steam released during cooking and can cause an allergic reaction....To avoid seafood allergic reactions avoid eating in seafood restaurants if you are allergic to fish or shellfish, even if you intend to order a meat or poultry dish. • 5. Essay On King Kamehameha Effective Leader Essay Hawaii is now known as a tropical paradise, but it wasn t always so simple. Thousands of years ago the islands were constantly fought over. Until one day, Kamehameha the Great conquered all of the islands becoming Hawaii s first king. As Hawaii s first king, Kamehameha led his own path. Kamehameha was an effective leader because he was intelligent, was an effective communicator, and adapted to new ideas. One reason why Kamehameha was a good leader was because he was intelligent in a way that others weren t. As sandalwood grew in popularity Kamehameha knew he had to preserve the sandalwood trees for future generations. This led Kamehameha to place a kapu on the young sandalwood trees, so they would be saved for the future. This was one of the many new changes Kamehameha made to the islands. Kamehameha traveled overseas to sell sandalwood, but soon learned he could not make a profit due to port fees. Then all of the sudden Kamehameha decided to take the idea of port fees back to Hawaii. This idea that Kamehameha brought back with him was a great change. With the idea of port fees, the Hawaiian s made profits that benefited their communities. The port fees proved to be extremely useful due to the fact that dozens of ships docked at Hawaii as a stopover. Kamehameha was an effective leader because he was intelligent, he was an effective communicator, and he adapted to new ideas. Throughout his rule, Kamehameha was able to achieve a profitable business, a beautiful island, and a kapu to help future generations prosper. Therefore he was respected, wealthy, and powerful. Management Strategy At Coca Cola Management at Coca Cola Sandra Lee Sartor MGT500 Modern Management Dr. McGrath November 21, 2016 Evaluate two (2) key changes in the selected company s management style from the company s inception to the current day. Indicate whether or not you believe the company is properly managed. Provide support for your position. A management style is a complete process of leadership used by managers within Coca Cola. The success that the management team at Coca Cola has in inspiring its employees to meet their objectives is built on the management style they adopted. There are three main management styles that Coca Cola use, which are democratic, autocratic and the laissez faire style. The democratic leadership style consists of the leader, sharing the decision making skills with the group associates by encouraging the benefits of the group members and by practicing social fairness. This stresses on group agreements to produce new ideas. Democratic happens when all managers, junior managers and employees are involved in the idea and the final decision process. Democratic style is the management style that Coca Cola has adopted, which involves empowerment, and allows individuals and teams the responsibility of decision making, usually within a given framework. The authoritarian leadership style keeps strict, close control over its followers by keeping close regulation of the policies and procedures given to the followers. • 8. Scm and Erp Software Implementation at Nike – from Failure... Introduction: Nike was founded under the name Blue Ribbon Sports in 1964. In 1972 the first pair of sports shoes was sold and experienced enormous growth and achieved a 50% market share within the sports shoe market in the US only eight years later. After sluggish focus and growth in the 1980ies, Nike experienced strong growth in the 1990ies and cemented the position as global recognizable brand. The increased international focus created strains on the supply chain, which was consider inadequate to cater efficiently to the organization and the rapid changes consumer demands . McAfee of Harvard Business School has said: What Nike and i2 Technologies Inc. began experiencing the problem actually is not the software itself... The culprit there was misspecification Further on the subject of customization, Nike had great difficulties balancing customization with speed to market. I believe the external factors of significant competition, changing market place and resulting disappointing financial performance in growth markets lead Nike to rush the implementation and interfered with normal OBB. The rushing meant that a guideline, templates and implementation methodology was discarded by Nike with the argument that the i2 provided material was too rigid. In general I would argue that Nike required technology that was not sufficiently available at the time. This pushed i2 to enter unknown software territory and program to order disabling sufficient time for vendor/developer testing. The criticality of this was further boosted due to lack of testing from Nike, which clearly illustrates faults in phase 4 of the implementation as well. (Appendix 3) Lastly, I find evidence that a global ERP and SCM software potentially would be difficult to manage successfully at the time due to the structural issue of underdeveloped bandwidth infrastructure , which could indicate Nike required a technical solution which was not ... • 9. The Mating Intelligence Scale, And The Flirting Style Test... Personality Portfolio Personality tests offer an opportunity to learn more about psychology and about oneself. I have just completed the Jung type sorter, the Big five inventory, the mating intelligence scale, and the flirting style test. I had taken both the Jungian Type Sorter and the Big Five Inventory previously, but now have a better understanding what my scores mean. The Mating intelligence and Flirting Styles tests were both novel to me, I enjoyed these two tests the most, but have doubts about the accuracy of my responses to questions. Jungian Type Sorter My Jungian type was Extraverted, Intuitive, Feeling, and Perceiving, or ENFP. Alternatively, INFP due to a low preference for extraversion over introversion (3% vs 1% respectively). Reading through the descriptions of both personality types I cannot say that either align terribly well with my own self judgement. The experience is reminiscent of reading a horoscope; I can easily identify with about half of the claims made, while a quarter are slightly off the mark, and the remaining are dead wrong. Considering though that the descriptions must be written to encompass scorers at both extremes of the scales, this doesn t necessarily indicate a lack of validity in the model itself. The website lists some famous ENFPs. Assuming their assessments are valid, it is certainly gratifying to be likened to Mark Twain, a man whose gruff compassion I have always admired. Conclusions: The proceeds collected from the sale of the patent would qualify as LTCG. However, the proceeds are limited as to each partner s interest in the company. Therefore, Tom would only be able to report his equal distribution as LTCG. • 11. Essay On Artifice People have been like sheep under wrongful and deceptive shepherds and it will continue to be like this whether we like it or not. We have been a species of conflicts and war, and it would have only been a matter of time for someone to master the skill of artifice to persuade the masses to favor their agenda. Humanity is more productive when we all agree to something, and the use of artifice can influence the way we all think. This expertise can be wielded by those who are good or bad. This can be frightening when that skill is mastered by those who intend to utilise it for deceptive purposes. Because of the manipulation of artifice, it demonstrates that it is a vital skill to acquire. Its influence on recent history and its continuation in our present day is known by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Citizens have been misled to think alike to change the way of society and the world. A more familiar example to many would be the influence artifice had in Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union back in World War Two and other wars before that. Unfortunate citizens have been exposed to the power of artifice by tyrants to keep the war effort going. Propaganda was used in almost every nation undergoing war. The United States have also taken part in this to help resist despicable nations from rising. The effects afterwards were shown to be drastic. It s obvious to see the effects the second world war has done to society. Hate groups grow like tumors in the general public, families have been torn apart, and nations can not be seen the same way as before. The use of artifice has changed the way we live our lives today, it just goes to show that it can be proven to be a very vital skill to wield. Some would hope that this was only a thing of the past and that it would not be a part of our lives. Unfortunately, this skill did not disappear over the years, but instead it has only begun to blossom into our present ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Age Discrimination in the Workplace Essay 2 Age Discrimination in the Workplace Age discrimination in employment is a complex issue which impacts many areas of Government policy and has many implications for individuals themselves. Age discrimination can occur across all spectrums of employment and can affect both young and old. Age discrimination can affect a person s chances of getting a job, and potentially their chances of promotion or development within the workplace. Age can also be a factor when employers are deciding who should be selected during a workforce downsize or redundancy of work due to a mergers and acquisitions. The Civil Rights Act does not make age discrimination illegal, but Congress has since enacted another law, the Age Discrimination Employment Act of 1967 (ADEA). The ADEA is administered by the EEOC, and similar in most respects to the Civil Rights Act. Both disparate treatment and disparate impact charges are possible. The Act protects workers 40 years of age and older. A 45 year old who applies for a job and is rejected in favor of a younger worker can claim disparate treatment. The employer will then have to show that the younger worker was better qualified or provide some nondiscriminatory reason for its decision. An employer could argue that it paid a newly hired younger worker more than an older current employee because this was necessary to attract the younger worker to the job. In disparate impact cases, employees must show that the entire protected group (workers 40 and older) is affected by the employer s practice and not just some part of the protected group (workers over 60, for example) (Player, 14). The law does allow age to be considered a bona fide occupational qualification (BFOQ) more easily than it does sex, but still this defense is relatively narrow. An employer has to show that ... The Use of Foreshadowing and Symbolism in A Good Man is Hard to Find When an author writes a story, he or she will generally use different writing techniques to create the piece. These techniques have the ability to turn a story into something truly unique, as they allow the story to unfold in it s own way. In the short story A Good Man is Hard to Find , author Flannery O Connor used the techniques of symbolism and foreshadowing throughout the entire piece to create a deeply captivating story, as so many of the details mentioned in the beginning of the story are glimpses of the end. O Connor also explains how the Grandmother dressed for the trip; she wore a navy dress, white gloves, and a formal hat. The reading states In case of an accident, anyone seeing her dead on the highway would know at once that she was a lady. (O Connor 496). Not only is this foreshadowing, but the grandmother s outfit can also be seen as a symbol of her skewed moral code and selfishness. When the grandmother carefully chose the outfit for this trip, she was solely concerned with how she would appear in the event that she died on her trip. She was not at all disturbed by the fact that, in the event that there was an accident, her son and grandchildren would die as well. In the same paragraph that discusses the grandmother s outfit, the colors red, blue, purple, and green are introduced. These colors are mentioned for the first time when discussing the grandmother s clothes and the mother s kerchief, and they repeated throughout the entire story. A connection can certainly be seen with the grandmother s blue dress, because when the reader is first introduced to The Misfit, he is wearing blue jeans, and after his sidekicks kill Bailey, they take his shirt embroidered with blue parrots. However, it wasn t until I read chapters 7 and 8 that I was able to perceive the full effect of why the Bedouins value theses poems so much. These poems are called little songs and are women s way of expressing what they truly feel without being judged by society. For example, as I mentioned in discussion 12, at the end of chapter 7, Abu Lughod told a story of Mabruka, a woman who was about to welcome a co wife. Polygany was a cultural norm within Bedouin society, so it wouldn t have been appropriate for Mabruka to object to it. It also would ve shown romantic attachment, which was frowned upon. Lila Abu Lughod gives examples of ghinnawas about star crossed lovers, divorce, arranged marriage, polygyny, and many other ghinnawas related to love. For instance, when the one of the girls mentioned in the book wanted to marry another man and was upset that she had to marry the man that she did, she ran away. The secular pursuit of wealth or success does not always result in one s life changing for the better. The job promotion you have been eyeing does not come with the promise ... • 31. Gandalf the Mischiefmonger Essay If people tried to make an argument that J.R.R. Tolkien didn t used Norse mythology as a backbone structure when writing The Hobbit in 1937, they would be without a doubt completely wrong. Many creatures were pulled straight from the Norse myths and thrown into his famous story, but did he use some of the Norse gods as structures for his characters as well? In the book The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien, he states that Gandalf is seen almost as an Odinic Wanderer , comparing him to Odin the Allfather (Carpenter, C. Tolkien, J.R.R. Tolkien). Rather than Odin, though, another almost unlikely god could fit the part of Gandalf s basis, and that would be the trickster god, Loki, son of Laufey and Farbauti. Loki, without a doubt, would be an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They demand that he uses his not so noble tricks to return the goddess, along with her cherished apples. Gandalf is not an outright liar, though he does slightly bend the truth throughout the story. He is the reason that Bilbo is referred to as the burglar, as he puts the sign on the Hobbit s door himself. Gandalf told the throng If I say he is a burglar, a burglar he is, or will be... (Tolkien 49). His intentions for lying are more beneficial than Loki s reasons, though he is still manipulating the idea of Bilbo being a burglar, convincing Thorin and Co. that Bilbo has experience with thieving. Before they take off for their long journey, Thorin says to Bilbo, Aren t you the burglar? And isn t sitting on the doorstep your job, not speak of getting inside the door? His words show that he has some form of faith in Gandalf s white lie about the hobbit being a thief, even though Bilbo had never stolen anything in his life. Both Gandalf and Loki are gifted with magical abilities, and they rely their magic as well as their wit to solve their problems. In the myth The Building of Asgard s Wall , the builder (or rock giant), offered to build a wall around Asgard and for his payment, he wanted Freyja s hand in marriage, along with both the sun and the moon. Odin turned to Loki for a plan, and he suggested to give the builder six months rather than the eighteen months that he originally demanded. The builder agreed to the terms, with one condition his steed is allowed to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Influence Of English In The Japanese Language 2. English in the Japanese language 2.1. Adaption and Integration: Influence of English on Japanese Language Use It has been many years since English was first introduced to Japanese society. In the progress of the 19th, 20th and 21st century, the English language was a continuous but varying influence on the Japanese language and its culture. The result of this centuries long process is a Japanese language that contains more than its fair share of English loanwords. Although most Japanese people, even those of older age, are familiar with a lot of English loanwords, this does not necessarily mean they are familiar with English. In my personal experience, I witnessed a Japanese woman struggling to find the English word for elevator , despite ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These words, which are taken from English and used functionally in Japanese conversation primarily by native speakers, often have an already existing, possible common Japanese equivalent. Therefore, these loanwords could be considered redundant and quite double to an outsider. However, in certain situations, the English word is greatly preferred, whereas the Japanese word would stand out strangely, for reasons which will be thoroughly discussed in this section. These English loanwords in Japanese language have been dubbed double loanwords , for the sake of creating an understandable and clear term, specifically for this paper. Notably, there are two domains where these double loanwords appear in Japanese speech; fashion and food. These domains are not coincidental, as both have been heavily influenced by foreign culture. Japanese fashion and Japanese Western style cuisine, or youshoku 洋食, are inspired largely by their French, English and American equivalents. Although these Japanese styles do originate in Western influence, they have been made their own by the Japanese fashion industry and the Japanese ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Media And Gender In an age dominated by media, it is almost impossible not get sucked into and internalize the things we see before us. This begins as early as infancy. Studies have shown that 74% of children under the ages of two watch TV ( TV and Kids Under the Age of 3 ). This continues throughout a person s life, and continues to shape them. The usually stereotypical images and characters shown in media can have many detrimental influences on persons, particularly children and young adults, such as low body image, eating disorders, and increased aggressive behaviour. In order to shape a better tomorrow, it is imperative that the media people see better reflection of men and women to avoid the aforementioned side effects, and to socialize the children of ... There are ways to break the cycle to slowly change the media one sees, therefore giving them the potential to change the society around them. In order to change some of the female stereotypes perpetuated in film and TV shows, one primary answer is to include more women into the creation of these shows. Having female workers has been shown to produce more balanced female roles, The presence of women in behind the scenes positions of control...who correlated with more major female characters and female characters who were more multi dimensional (Erigha, 86). In her article, Content Analysis of Gender Roles in Media: Where we are Now and Where Should We Go , Rebecca Collins concurs with this statement in her implication that girls may require the representation of other girls to identify with, and therefore to learn from them (Collins, 292). Including women in the creation of the shows is important, however it is only a stepping stone into fixing the larger problem.
