Football Discursive Essay
Higher Folio Discursive Essay Jamie Smith
The sport with the Midas touch
Will football one day be played with balls made from gold? At its current rate, anything could happen,
but it would have to have a few brand logos stapled to it first.
Advertising is a huge part of today s society and today, we are engulfed by a cosmetic world of
advertising, playing with our opinions like a child with their toys on Christmas; they can make us
think how they want us to think. Now this world has taken over the Beautiful Game too and it s going
full speed to the centre of it. In stadiums, advertising boards surround the pitch, using bright
animations to get crowd s attention; while on TV screens, companies have huge sponsorships with the
major competitions like major bank Barclays partnership with England s Premier League that lasted
fifteen years up until the current season. Naming rights, like the Emirates F.A Cup, a historic 100 year
old trophy, now named after an Asian airline company create this image of history being taken over by
commercialism, a metaphor for the new football.
Stadiums to Parks; Arenas to Lanes; Coliseums to Fields. A football team is associated with their
home. It s where the fans pile in week in week out, friends and families alike. It s where they live their
Saturday afternoons and where they worship their heroes on the pitch. It s a social hub and a
sanctuary. But where is the Kia nightclub or the Betfred Mosque. With almost half the stadiums in the

Logical Relationship Of Budgeting Management
LOGICAL RELATIONSHIP OF BUGDETINGS
Budgeting management plays critical role in organizations, it can help organizations to allocate
resource, force thinking about future and estimate performance base on benchmark. Normally,
management team and financial function provide budget plans at the beginning of a specific period. It
also plays the role of communication and co ordination around different levels of organization.
Although all of kinds of budget are run respectively, it is important to investigate interrelationship
between them.
The master budget relationship is showed below:
Production budget, which determine number of units the company needs to produce to meet sales and
ending inventory, interlinked sales budget and direct material budget, direct labor budget and
manufacture overhead budget.
We will discuss the logical relationship of budgets.
1. Sales budget
The sales budget reflected sales expectation of a company s for the budget period. The unit result of
sales budget is the basement of production budget. To calculate sales budget, companies need variety
sources of information. The most important source is historical data and marketing forecast. The sales
budget result comes from budgeted sales in units by selling price per unit. It is clear that the sales
budget of new product will have less accurateness then the grown up product, as there is not much
data can be used. The more historical data to be concerned, the accurateness of result will be higher.

Maya Civilization Collapse
The example of societal collapse in which I will be making reference to throughout this essay is the
Maya civilization. The Maya civilization is, probably the best known of all early American
civilizations. (Fagan, 1995) It was at its strongest point between AD 300 AND 900. Around AD 900
was the time of its collapse. This civilization was developed in a densely, tropical forest on either
highlands or lowlands. Today to visit a Mayan site, people would go to the modern Mexican state,
capital city of Merida. This site was once home to the New World s most advanced Native American
civilization before European arrival. (Diamond, 2009) Over the years there has been many predictions
on what had caused the Maya civilization to collapse. At ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He stated that if the communication between the rulers and the Gods failed and the hope for a good
harvesting season and the production of rainfall to occur, tensions would develop rapidly among the
group. Here we have another example of how climate change and societal factors can affect the
societal well being of a group. Traditions were handed down from generation to generation. The ways
of living and teaching were embedded into each Mayan person. Some of these ways of living
consisted as being hunter gatherers, this is because their predecessors were known for their hunting
and gathering of supplies to keep them alive. Climate change and education come into consideration
here whilst talking about their well being. Due to the fact that their predecessors were hunter
gatherers, the weather had a major impact on their ways of collecting food and supplies. If there was
severe weather conditions throughout the forest there was a limit in the amount of food collected and
in terms of the education view it declines also because they cannot learn from their ancestors how to
survive in these conditions. It is believed that they were not savages but people who developed their

Scandinavian Airlines Case Essay
Scandinavian Airlines: The Green Engine Decision Scandinavian Airlines serves 32 million people
and is the largest airline in Scandinavia. It has been a first mover in many areas and has built a
positive reputation for corporate responsibility. Having decided to update its fleet with 55 Boeing
737s, SAS now has to decide whether to purchase DAC green engines. Arguments for and against
purchasing the green engine Director of Aircraft amp; Engine analysis Having spent almost five years
on the decision to purchase a new fleet of airplanes, Nas the director of aircraft and engine analysis,
was fully involved and committed to researching and presenting the best option to SAS s management
team. The arguments for purchasing the DAC ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Arguments against purchasing the engines include the significant cost requirement, the opportunity
costs, and the uncertainty of the operating effectiveness of the new engine technology. The cost of the
engines is significant, adding about $21 million dollars to the whole fleet. This money could be spent
on other features on the planes, such as a different engine, individual entertainment options, more
comfortable seats, or forward air stairs . These are the opportunity costs of purchasing the engines and
must also be considered in the decision. Finally, the engines use a technology that, although developed
in the 70s, has not been used on 737s and thus may result in additional costs to ensure the engines
operate properly and are delivered on time. Arguments for and against purchasing the green engines
SA S management team The management team at SAS has many of the same arguments for
purchasing the green engines, but has a primary focus of establishing a clear financial cost benefit
analysis. SAS s management team will argue that purchasing the engines will have a strong impact on
its brand image and will allow the company to compete in the industry through its customer s loyalty.
Ultimately this loyalty will drive revenues and will determine if the company can remain in
operations. Another argument will be the benefit of curtailing the expected

The Principles of Corporate Finance
THE PRINCIPLES OF CORPORATE FINANCE CHAPTER 1: The time value of money We are
going to link the present and the future by using the notion of interest rate that could be called

How Did Florence Nightingale Contribute To Nursing
Florence Nightingale is often commonly believed by many to be a significant person who not only
improved nursing, but the Army and medical education as well. Born in 1820 to a wealthy family she
was allowed the opportunity to become educated to a higher degree and obtaining extensive
knowledge in statistics and math, which later allowed her to revolutionize nursing, as well as establish
nursing as an actual profession. Hospitals during this time were unclean, disorderly, and an incredibly
infectious environment for patients. Hospitals were not considered places of healing, but places where
people died, and therefore a place many people avoided. It was for this reason that Florence
Nightingale s parents advised her not to enter this profession.

Rosalind Stereotypes
Ideas proposed during the Renaissance Period regarding gender differences were quite skewed from
the certainties we hold today. In fact, misconceptions about male and female genitalia propagated by
anatomists led to the generally accepted belief that women were merely less perfect versions of men.
The supposed effects of women s sexual imperfections included weakness, illogicality, deceitfulness,
emotional inconstancy, etc. In As You Like It (written between 1598 and 1600), William Shakespeare
exaggerates such gender stereotypes through his character Rosalind in order to produce comedic
effect. When Rosalind is initially introduced, she is characterized as gender stereotypical due to her
extreme emotional highs and lows. For instance, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One such moment occurs when Rosalind decides to play the knave with [Orlando] (3.2.270). By doing
so, Rosalind makes clear that her intentions are driven by ulterior motives. However, her motives are
not to hurt or to make a fool of Orlando, but merely to put his love to the test. For instance, when
Orlando insists that he is the man who is so love shaked, Rosalind challenges him by saying There is
none of my uncle s marks upon you (3.2.331 333). She then describes these marks in great detail to
Orlando: A lean cheek, which you have not; a blue eye and/ sunken, which you have not; an
unquestionable spirit, which/ you have not; a beard neglected, which you have not (3.2.337 339). By
cataloging the characteristics which a love struck man is supposed to show, Rosalind evokes an idea of
the male gender as something out of a romance novel. This description is humorously juxtaposed by
Rosalind s description of the qualities necessary to cure a man of love: effeminate, changeable,
longing and liking, proud, fantasti / cal, apish, shallow, inconstant, full of tears, full of smiles; for/
every passion something, and for no passion truly anything (3.2.367 368). This description of
Rosalind s Ganymede character ironically fits the stereotypical ideas of women during this time

juvenile diabetes when he was six years old. He was told that his life expectancy was twenty five
years. I remembered hearing that when I was first grade, I don t really know...twenty five sounds like a

The Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Blithedale Romance And The...
Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Blithedale Romance and Maria Susanna Cummins The Lamplighter are
vastly different books. While originally published within two years of each other, both authors
approached their writing through distinctive practices. Hawthorne failed to show development in the
majority of his characters in his romance, while Cummins sentimental novel is heavily loaded with
positive character growth. After reading The Blithedale Romance and The Lamplighter, one of the
main differences noted is how the development of the characters, specifically female, was addressed
within the novels.
The manner in which Hawthorne depicts women is rather unfavorable toward the female sex. While
Coverdale exhibits a feminist stance in his argument that women be considered equal, there is a
blatant inequality of the characters. Priscilla, the Veiled Lady, is coerced into performing in a
mysterious show and Zenobia is unable to go on without the love of Hollingsworth. Hollingsworth
choosing Priscilla after Zenobia announces that she is now poor only affirms for the reader that
women are not valued for their personality, intelligence, or love, but rather what they have to offer in
terms of furthering the success of the man. Due to the staticity of the female characters in the novel,
there is little evidence to prove they could provide much intrinsic value to a marriage.
In the scene of Zenobia s funeral, Miles Coverdale, thinking to himself, says, that a woman of Zenobia

death. When she finally goes out and sees the flowers at Balmoral she realizes that even though she
had badly misunderstood what her people had expected of her, they cherished and loved her presence.
After her experience at Balmoral, she goes out and makes the long anticipated statement concerning
Diana s death and she shows her people that she cares, maybe not wholeheartedly but she gives them
what they want and shows the compassion that they need. This show just how much the Queen

Expectancy Violation Theory In Communication
The expectancy violation theory is a theory of communication that explains how people react when
their expectations are exceeded or unsatisfied during a situation. Most of the time people are
subconsciously making assessments during communication situations, and certain aspects analyzed by
this theory help to reach a positive or negative conclusion. The expectancy violation theory analyzes
situations by looking at what is predicted to occur, the value we place on the behavior presented, and
the perceived power the person holds. When a person is about to engage in some form of
communication they think of a list of behaviors the other individual normally adheres to. This list of
anticipated behaviors can be referred to as expectancy (Griffin et al. 86). In established relationships
the individuals may base their expectancy on previous encounters with the person, so the expectancy
is also dependent on the individual s prior relationship (Miller Ott and Lynne 254). One of the
behaviors that could be included on that list is personal space. Personal space is dependent on the
setting the person is currently in. A violation would occur if the person comes up closer than the
expected distance and starts talking. Once that initial violation occurs the individual s expectancy
starts to look at how extreme the violation was. The expectancy aspect of the expectancy violation
theory is crucial in one s understanding of a violation. Another key aspect of the expectancy violation
theory

A barbarian decribes a crude person in a primitive state or someone who lacks education or

acknowledged the supreme leader Genghis Khan in 1206. Most historians formulate an arguement
based on the question The Mongols: How Barbaric Were the Barbarians ? The Mongols were not very

material world. Camus is a philosopher, and was able to express his views through Meursault, the

in this work. Many of Meursault s actions reflect ideas that life is meaningless, and that sometimes the

Why Is Louis Sullivan Important To Chicago
Louis Sullivan revolutionized architecture, redefining art in building form. His work in the late 1800s
became known across the country and brought many to Chicago, either to see his grand creations or
study the architect himself. Louis Sullivan was born in Boston on September 3rd, 1856 and began
work in Chicago in 1875 for several architecture firms. He joined Adler s firm in 1879, where his
major work began. Sullivan s skill in artistic design and Adler s talent for business matters and
marketing made the firm very successful, and together they created many buildings across Chicago,
eventually playing a part in the 1893 World s Fair, (although the architecture did not meet his
expectations). Louis Sullivan was greatly important to Chicago in that he left a lasting effect on the
city and country with both his incredible architecture and his strong, innovative ideas about the future
of architecture, ideas which gave birth to great new forms such as the skyscraper.
Louis Sullivan was born in Boston, where he lived for his first 10 years. His parents were Irish
immigrants who had moved to Boston. At age 12 he was already determined to become an architect,
his impatience with classroom education moved him from school to school, as he spent only one year
at MIT, where he studied under William Ware, an architect famous for his Victorian Gothic building
style. Sullivan left for Philadelphia in 1873 and worked with the firm of Furness and Hewitt until

presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, believes introducing school uniforms is a productive way to
implement the focus on learning and limit the attention on what the students are wearing ( Should

children regarding what the child will be wearing to school (Kouzmine). School uniforms are not just

but this had no effect over her ruling. She was able to maintain peace in a country, which was divided

Queen Elizabeth was born on September 7, 1533 ( Queen Elizabeth I 1). King Henry VIII was her
father and Anne Boleyn was her mother, wich was her father s second wife (3). At the age of only two
years old, her mother was killed by her father over accusations of committing adultery and conspiracy

Tension between Elizabeth and her stepfather, Thomas Seymour started to occur, Elizabeth returned to
Hatfield, the royal estate, away from the court (3). The relationship between the two never subsided
and Elizabeth had him executed for conspiring to marry her to gain power (3). Elizabeth had an older

Argument Against Limiting Screen Time For Younger Children
eople would argue against limiting screen time for younger children. However some arguments can be
made for letting children watch television when they are very young. A poor mouse lost its youth for
the effects of overstimulation to be proven, and such a valiant sacrifice should not go in vain. Along
with the sacrifice of the mice that served under Dr. Christakis, our future citizens are having their
perceptions of reality augmented even before they go to preschool or kindergarten. Combined with the
attention deficit, these preconceived notions of different places can lead a school to have some serious
issues. The core issue with this is that it is very difficult to moderate a child s viewing of the
television, playing of video games, or accessing of the Internet, especially because younger people
have more fluid of electronic devices. The benefits of caring for a child during its infancy, instead of
sticking it in front of a screen, outweigh whatever free time would be obtained by letting the child
experience over stimulation. Many of the people who deny that the media has an effect on children s
violent behavior believe that the media is just seen as the main perpetrator because many parents fear
it more than other factors. The media s ubiquitousness gives people everywhere one thing to look at
and blame for the violence in their societies, because so much of what is in the media contains
violence. This fear is mainly drawn out of parents lack of knowledge on how to

The Philadelphia Story Essay
There is no doubt that The Philadelphia Story is one of the best American romantic comedy file in
1904. Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn and James Stewart are protagonist in this film, but Katherine
Hepburn s acting make me so impressive. After finishing watching this film, I fall in love with this
wonderful story not just because Katharine Hepburn is a beautiful as well as elegant lady, but lots of
plots of this film are thoughtful and interesting. The most important event in The Philadelphia Story is
the second wedding for a lady, Tracy, who is born in a rich family in Philadelphia. Since Dexter, who
is Tracy s first husband, cannot match her standards, she gets divorce with him in the end. Two years
after her divorce, she is going to get married again. What s more, her fiancé is a very famous person;
therefore, one of the most well known magazine wants to report Tracy s second wedding. In order to
help a photographer and a journalist join the wedding, Dexter asks them to pretend to be friends of
Tracy s brother. However, it cannot escape Tracy s eyes, and she finds out their trick quickly after she
sees them. Unfortunately, even though she knows they are not she brother s friend, she cannot say
anything about that and neither her family can because the magazine has evident to show that her
father has affair with a lady dancer. And if ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, Costume can show their class in the society. For example, the costume of a rich person must be
very beautiful and expensive, and the costume of a poor person must be ragged and cheap. And in the

Therefore, the costume changes for female actor is very important because their costumes can always

North East And South Korea
South Korea is one of the fastest growing countries in the world. It is located in Eastern Asia, on the
southern half of the Korean Peninsula bordering the Sea of Japan and the Yellow Sea. It is neighbors
with North Korea to the north, Japan to the east and China to the west. Seoul is the capital and the
second largest metropolitan city in the world. Its total area is 38,462.49 square miles, approximately
the size of Kentucky. South Korea can be divided into four general regions: an eastern region of high
mountain ranges and narrow coastal plains; a western region of broad coastal plains, river basins, and
rolling hills; a southwestern region of mountains and valleys; and a southeastern region dominated by
the broad basin of the Nakdong River. (www.southkoreagovernment.com). In the 7th century three
kingdoms came together to form Korea. In the last 100 years, Korea has been invaded, subjugated and
divided. Today, the country is physically divided, the result of a war between North and South Korea,
which began in 1950 and never ended. The fighting ended in 1953 with an armistice agreement, but a
cease fire agreement still carries on today. In less than 6 decades, South Korea has risen to become an
economic powerhouse in the world. It has hosted an Olympics Games, Co hosted a World Cup and in
2010 became the first Asian nation to host a G20 summit. Professor KyongSoo Lho stated South

The Importance Of Journalism
Journalism plays a major role in aiding democracy and helping it function. It can shape the way we
view policies or how we view a particular candidate. Unfortunately, this can be sometimes forgotten
or overlooked in the midst of partisan debate, government shutdowns and the new insurgence of fake
news . If we were able to put the absurdity of these issues to the side and focus on the real impact of
true raw journalism, we can open our eyes and mind to the impact news has on all our political views.
Let us look at the impact and effects that journalism is currently having on last year s election and the
political climate around the world. One could say that journalism provides the public with
governmental transparency and provides checks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So, without the help of an investigative journalist this would have never been known to the public and

The case was also similar when an investigative reporter revealed the conditions at a factory in China

investigative report revealed the harsh, at times deadly conditions under which Chinese workers
assembling iPhones and iPads live and work; the low pay and high turnover at Apple s retail stores;
the lengths to which Apple went to reduce its tax bill, and the shortsightedness of its conclusion that
Apples couldn t be manufactured in America (Duhigg) The finds by this investigative report caused

How The Internet Has Transformed The Ways Of Communicating...
The Internet has transformed the ways of communicating and learning ways of the prior years.
Electronic mail, also known as email, has existed ever since the Internet was invented, to send
messages from one computer to another. One remarkable invention was the Project Gutenberg of 1971
which is about placing books and documents in a public domain that can be accessed electronically for
free. The Internet is a channel for interaction and collaboration of different individuals using the
computer or any advanced technology that is being used nowadays regardless of the geographical
location of an individual. According to research, the Internet was first used in the year 1969 by the
Advanced Research Projects Agency Network (ARPANET) to run on packet switching technology for
the computers in Stanford and UCLA for the first time, and was later developed by different research
groups.
In the past, during the time when the Internet has not yet existed, studying was mostly concentrated on
learning from books and teachers. Students relied on books for references and conducted interviews to
know the opinions of others. They used encyclopedias, dictionaries, different thesis papers and
magazines as their primary source of other information. Before, students needed to go to the library to
borrow books as their reference, but nowadays, students don t have to go to the library to look for
different references because they can use the Internet to find answers and examples that can help

Analysis Of Fritz Lang s Metropolis And The Garden...
There is a lot to be said about Fritz Lang s Metropolis, as it has many overlapping themes. There is the
theme of humans becoming as replaceable as machines. It has a theme of class division which leads to
a Marxist type revolution. The theme I want to focus on in this paper however, is the religious themes
and symbolism that are prevalent throughout the film, as I feel they are the most prominent.
Metropolis makes a lot of calls to Judeo Christian religions and biblical stories, using its storytelling
method, characterization, and visuals.
The story begins with the main character, Freder, in a lush garden surrounded by a harem of beautiful
and scantily clad women. This scene was likened to the Garden of Eden by Jerold J. Abrams in The ...

the movie also appear to be the only ones who recognize the workers as people and not parts, and they
go about treating them as such. Rutsky also suggests that Freder being a metaphorical Christ in the
world of the film, may have a lot to do with the film s controversial ending but I will talk about that in
a moment.
Meanwhile, Freder s father is the owner of the city and the one who oversees everything that goes on.
He makes attempts to play God by changing conditions and controlling everything that happens in the
city. Both Abrams and Kang point out that Joh the father s name bears resemblance to Jehovah.
(Though Joh does not represent Christ in the world of the film.) Even the tower that he sits in is called

Rhetorical Analysis Of Female Genital Mutilation

FGM is controversial matter most prevalent in Africa (Ahanonu and Victor, 2014). To this day it s
estimated that about 28 African countries still practice this ritual including Nigeria (Ahanonu and
Victor, 2014). In the past twenty years there has been a worldwide increased interest in FGM due to its

Whether I agree with FGM or not the authors made me feel empathy for the mothers and feel that they
are doing what they think is best for their daughters. Data analyzed from the study showed that 44.2%

Women And The Role Of Women In The 1920 s
Women of The 1920s
During the first World War I women were left at home to try and figure out how they were going to
care for their families. Their husband, father, and brothers were sent off to war. Many companies
around the United States were left with production needs and little to no employees to do the job. In a
time period, where women are expected to be confident and independent, they had to also realize they
had little to no power in society. They had societal rules that they must stay at home to cook, clean,
and care for the children. With the men who were prominent in their lives coming and going from war.
These factors caused the birth of a new era. This is the era where women were emerging. Women were
changing by being more independent sexually and expressing their emotions through music, poetry,
and movies.
One important theme of the women of the 1920 s that connects various aspects of the women is their
sexuality. The women before those who became empowered in the 1920 s would never open up about
their sexuality. The women prior to the 1920 s had an image of modesty and were viewed to be
married to only one man. In 1920, the women began to express their sexual desires freely. Singers like
Bessie Smith could paint a picture and bring anything to life with just her voice. One example by
Bessie Smith I m Wild About That Thing . In this song, Bessie Smith sings of how she loves her man
and how happy he makes her. In her lyrics she says Do it easy honey don t get

Motors carriers are classified in manner as truckload and less than truck load. Less than truck load

Introduction
Six sigma is a methodology, discipline and a set of techniques used to improve a process by
eliminating defects. In addition, it is also considered a management philosophy. The core of this
philosophy is to develop future leaders and display strategies on how to conduct a business effectively.
Six Sigma creates common language throughout an organization and serves as a method to transform
culture. At its highest level possible, six sigma is there to improve both efficiency and effectiveness.
Efficiency includes time, costs, and labor values; amounts of resources consumed, whereas
effectiveness measures the degree to which the customer?s needs are met. This paper will examine the
origin of Six Sigma and it?s evolution into the foremost accepted quality improvement processes
across many disciplines. In addition, an examination will be done on the application of Six Sigma in
the healthcare industry including all variables and their operational definitions. Clarification will be
given on how the theory evolved into the foremost accepted process improvement methodology in the
world. Finally, testing of the model will be conducted by applying the theory to a work setting within
the healthcare environment. From the testing

The Importance Of Reward Enhances Motivation And Motivation
DISCUSSION
The aim of this experiment was to test whether or not reward enhances motivation, therefore
enhancing results of performance.
My hypothesis stated that results would be inconclusive due to subjects being self motivated and
happy to do their best. I thought that this no effect on their performances. I took consideration into
realising that subjects may not be self motivated and needed a reward to spur them on to performing at
their best. I could not underestimate the chance of choking under pressure and this could lead to
inconclusive differing results. The test result showed no real change in stats, due to lack of subject
numbers, it was difficult to determine whether or not motivation and performance was enhanced
through reward. However Figure 2 above did indicate a change in performance leaning towards more
success when reward was a part of the experiment at an average of hitting two free throws out of ten,
compared to motivation averages of two point seven out of ten. Table 1 shows a mixed bag of results
in terms of performance, many subjects produced better performances with the reward at stake,
compared to those who had no real change to their performance outcome. A few subjects were in the
early cognitive stage of learning when it came to performing the skill to a level where they hit zero
shots from the free throw line. This weighed done the motivation score averages quite heavily and it

Theme Of Individualism In Walt Whitman s Leaves Of Grass
Individualism is important. This statement is made clear in Walt Whitman s book, Leaves of Grass,
published in 1855. Leaves of Grass is a poetry collection composed in the nineteenth century, during
the Westward Expansion. Contrary to popular poetic style in that period, Whitman wrote in free verse,
meaning there was little to no rhyming or tempo. Individualism is a theme that sets the tone of
Whitman s poems. Whitman uses the literary devices of repetition, asyndeton, imagery, and conflict to
create the idea of individualism to set the tone. The repetition present in Whitman s works contributes
significantly to the theme of his poems. Repetition can be used to emphasize differences; moreover, it
can stress the individuality of every person. Whitman s work, I Hear America Singing, is an example
of emphasizing differences, with lines 2 4 being, Those of mechanics, each one singing his as it should
be blithe and strong, /The carpenter singing his as he measures his plank or beam, /The mason singing
his as he makes ready for work, or leaves off work,... Singing what belongs to them, each has a unique
song that only appertains to them. Similarities do appear in the repetition of Whitman s works,
revealing that this literary device can create an effect of resemblance between ideas. Taken from O
Me! O Life! is lines 2 3, Of the endless trains of the faithless, of cities fill d with the foolish, /Of
myself forever reproaching myself, (for who more foolish

Diomedes As A Greek Hero In The Iliad
In the Iliad by Homer, Diomedes a Greek soldier displays excellence in his army. Athena, the god of
war, gives Diomedes qualities of a god, which he uses with virtue, making him a Greek hero. In the
battle, several gods and mortal fighters lack the knowledge of the costs of war, which creates a lack of
virtuous leaders in the fighting. Diomedes fills this gap with his piety, and teaches his victims the
effects of battle. His first major victim is Pandarus, a great archer with arrogance, whose tongue he
brutally rips out. He then scratches his next victim Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty, on her
arm, maring her complexion. Diomedes then stabs Ares in the stomach, which cuts off the source of
his appetites. Because Diomedes possesses a balanced soul and piety, he provides his victims with
contrapasso punishment, that demonstrates to them the cost of war, making him a Greek hero.
Diomedes with Athena s assistance brutally rips the great archer, Pandarus tongue out, because of his
overwhelming hubris, which displays to him the seriousness of war. Pandarus shoots an arrow at
Diomedes believing it kills him, because of his pridefulness. Aeneas persuades Pandarus to finish him
off, and he listens, Aeneas the Trojan captain checked him sharply:/ no talk of turning for home!.../

Hidden Figures Dorothy Byron Analysis
Dorothy Vaughn Dorothy Vaughn is known as NASA s first African American supervisor and
previously worked as a math teacher. Dorothy Vaughan unofficially supervised West Computing to
analyze data for aerospace engineers before being promoted as supervisor. Eventually, the West
Computing Wing would be abolished and replaced by higher technology from IBM to calculate
equations at a much faster rate. Thus, forced Vaughn to take the helm and find a new way to provide
jobs for the computers or women of color who computed data calculations for NASA. From analyzing
Hidden Figures, the movie recognizes the prejudice that black women of that time have experienced in
and out of the work place. Vaughn plays a very valuable role in Hidden Figures as a motherly figure to
not only her children but to black women whom she worked with. ... Show more content on

At the beginning of the movie we see that Vaughn was fixing the car and gives Katherine and Mary
rides to and from work. In the movie during scene 28:12 Vaughn says to Mary Get you damn feet off
my dashboard. This ain t your livin room , during this scene we see that Vaughn spoke to Mary in a
motherly tone. Later in the movie after Vaughn and her sons were kicked out of the library for being
black a police officer escorts them out of the building and she pointedly states at scene 50:12 Get your
hand off my boy. Don t touch them. You have a bless day . The similarity between these two
statements shows that Vaughn does play a motherly figure towards the women she works

Bartleby The Scrivener Conflict Essay
Bartleby is described as downright unemotional. He wrote noiselessly, weakly and mechanically, at
first when he wrote. He is also described as someone who is almost nonexistent. The narrator s
problems with his other employees have to do with their undependability, messiness and changing
tempers. Turkey and Nippers are quite the contradictory of Bartleby, The main conflict that Bartleby
the Scrivener presents is an internal problem. The narrator cannot deal with someone who appears to
be invalid of any human features and characteristics. Ah, Bartleby! Ah, humanity! is the closing
sentence in Melville s short story Bartleby the Scrivener. With this, the author may mean that it is of
human nature to have faults, however losing the ability to emote and connect with one s surrounding
world is possibly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the beginning, Bartleby arrives at the narrator s law practice, seeking employment as an answer to
an advertisement the lawyer had placed. Bartleby gets hired and immediately gets to work. Everything
starts very well with Bartleby copying and writing papers by daylight and candlelight. Nothing too
weird unveils the situation, and even though Bartleby is mysteriously discreet, the narrator finds this a
relief, compared to the unconventionalities of his clerks Nippers and Turkey. After Bartleby s arrival,
business seem to go on as usual for a little while, at least. In the third day Bartleby has been a solid
employee until he says prefers not to examine a paper with the lawyer, who is also the owner of the
law firm, refusing to obey the order. Everyone is puzzled except for Bartleby himself. Right after that,
Bartleby continues to repeat he prefers not to and becomes almost like a slogan for him. He continues
to prefer not to do anything but copy documents, even when the smallest favors are asked of him.
Eventually, Bartleby just stops working at all. This gives the lawyer reason to fire him, which he
attempts to

Printmaking is a work of art made up of ink on paper and existing in multiple examples, moreover, a
print is created through an indirect transfer process when the artist starts by drawing a composition on
another surface by placing a sheet of paper in contact with the drawn surface and then is run through a
printing press. By doing a work of art in this way is that numerous impressions can be made as new
papers and can be sent through the press in the same way. In this case, the artist should decide how
many to make and that total number of impressions is called an edition, which is then signed by the
artist. For the reason that there is more than one example, many people may have these prints.
Throughout the long history of the medium, different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the United States, the screen printing process is often called color printing, this is a print that is
created by a screen made of silk or a metal mesh extending over a frame whose design is provided by
a stencil on the screen and a squeegee pulled through the ink strength through the open area on the
paper. This process was used for the first time in 1930. The process was used as a fine art medium and
the term serigraph was coined to distinguish screenprints made by an artist from screenprints produced

Choral Captain Research Paper
Rosary High School, an all girl Catholic school, where the girls take tradition serious. Here at Rosary,
the biggest tradition involves the students putting on a huge show (Red and Gold) to build sisterhood,
leadership, and a little bit of competition. Through Red and Gold, a show student run, we are all able
to showcase our talents. Girls are hand selected based on their talents to be one of 100 captains. From
there, these girls are put in charge of their classmates and are placed either on the Red or Gold team.
Through months of preparation and practice, the captains teach or assist their classmates with their
specific dances, drills, lines, songs, sets, publicity, costumes, and or tech. As a singer, being a choral
captain was always one of my dreams. Everybody talked about Red and Gold for months. Students
could not wait until the last 45 minutes of the day where all the students put down their books and
focused on Red and Gold. Finally, the day we were told who got what captain spot. It was the last
class of the day. I was sitting in my French Class, shaking from nerves. I could barely breath as they
started to go through the categories. It seemed as though they would never get to the Choral Category.
Finally, my category was next. As a sophomore I knew I wasn t likely to get a captain position,
however I knew that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At that point, it didn t matter who would have won. The focus switched to taking care of the injuries
and being grateful that we belonged to this amazing community. Never did I think that I would be
involved in an incident that would end up on International News or have thousands of views on
YouTube. However, Saturday March 11th will forever be a day I will never forget. The vision of my
fellow Rosary sisters crashing down onto the hard concrete floor will forever be embedded into my
brain. It was a finale that I ll never

Unjust Law
In Martin Luther King s, Letter from Birmingham Jail he explains what he thinks is a just law and
what makes an unjust law.So what makes a just and an unjust law? A just law, according to King, is a
man made code that squares with the moral code. An unjust law is a code that is out of harmony with
the moral law. In the world we live in today most laws are just, but many issues are caused by
prejudice people. Many are afraid to suffer the consequences that come with standing up for what is
right. For me, suffering the consequences would be worth it if not everyone is given equal rights, one
race is being attacked about a certain law, and if a law forces me to do something I refuse to do.
In the United States everyone is promised freedom. I believe that means freedom of who you choose
to be, and how you choose to live. During the Civil Rights movement it was about blacks wanting

During those times blacks on a bus were supposed to give up their seat to a white if all seats were
taken, but she refused. Parks was later arrested because it was against the law to not give up your seat
to a white rider if you were black. To my knowledge, there are no laws like that at the moment, but if
one day there is I will go to jail for a law that is unjust and, again, gives other races a privilege than
mine, and forces me to do something I refuse to do.
Facing the consequences for breaking a law would be worth it if not everyone is given equal rights,
because no one should be treated as less for who they are and choose to be. Laws pertain to every
citizen, so if someone is being prejudice against one race there would be no second thought on my part
to stand up against it. Also, just like Rosa Parks if a law forces me to do something I refuse to do I will
got to jail. Many things anger me, and if I break the law for standing up for what is right I will not

Cambridge routinely autopsies their laboratory animals that died during breeding, they found six
rabbits that suffered sudden death have similar lesions without exposure to evident toxic or infection
(). Two months later, they obtained a pure culture of gram positive bacilli that is associated with

was categorized in to Listeria genus. After its discovery, L. Monovytogenes was found associated with
neonatal sepsis and meningitis by a coincidence. In 1950, East German scientist Potel and his
coworkers discovered several case of septicemia in newborn baby that have common characteristics of

At its current rate, anything could happen, but it would have to have a few brand logos stapled to it first. Advertising is a huge part of today s society and today, we are engulfed by a cosmetic world of advertising, playing with our opinions like a child with their toys on Christmas; they can make us think how they want us to think. Now this world has taken over the Beautiful Game too and it s going full speed to the centre of it. In stadiums, advertising boards surround the pitch, using bright animations to get crowd s attention; while on TV screens, companies have huge sponsorships with the major competitions like major bank Barclays partnership with England s Premier League that lasted fifteen years up until the current season. Arguments against purchasing the engines include the significant cost requirement, the opportunity costs, and the uncertainty of the operating effectiveness of the new engine technology. The cost of the engines is significant, adding about $21 million dollars to the whole fleet. This money could be spent on other features on the planes, such as a different engine, individual entertainment options, more comfortable seats, or forward air stairs . These are the opportunity costs of purchasing the engines and must also be considered in the decision. Finally, the engines use a technology that, although developed in the 70s, has not been used on 737s and thus may result in additional costs to ensure the engines operate properly and are delivered on time. Arguments for and against purchasing the green engines SA S management team The management team at SAS has many of the same arguments for purchasing the green engines, but has a primary focus of establishing a clear financial cost benefit analysis. SAS s management team will argue that purchasing the engines will have a strong impact on its brand image and will allow the company to compete in the industry through its customer s loyalty. In fact, misconceptions about male and female genitalia propagated by anatomists led to the generally accepted belief that women were merely less perfect versions of men. The supposed effects of women s sexual imperfections included weakness, illogicality, deceitfulness, emotional inconstancy, etc. In As You Like It (written between 1598 and 1600), William Shakespeare exaggerates such gender stereotypes through his character Rosalind in order to produce comedic effect. For instance, when Orlando insists that he is the man who is so love shaked, Rosalind challenges him by saying There is none of my uncle s marks upon you (3.2.331 333). She then describes these marks in great detail to Orlando: A lean cheek, which you have not; a blue eye and/ sunken, which you have not; an unquestionable spirit, which/ you have not; a beard neglected, which you have not (3.2.337 339). By cataloging the characteristics which a love struck man is supposed to show, Rosalind evokes an idea of the male gender as something out of a romance novel. This description is humorously juxtaposed by Rosalind s description of the qualities necessary to cure a man of love: effeminate, changeable, longing and liking, proud, fantasti / cal, apish, shallow, inconstant, full of tears, full of smiles; for/ every passion something, and for no passion truly anything (3.2.367 368). • 11. The Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Blithedale Romance And The... Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Blithedale Romance and Maria Susanna Cummins The Lamplighter are vastly different books. While originally published within two years of each other, both authors approached their writing through distinctive practices. Hawthorne failed to show development in the majority of his characters in his romance, while Cummins sentimental novel is heavily loaded with positive character growth. After reading The Blithedale Romance and The Lamplighter, one of the main differences noted is how the development of the characters, specifically female, was addressed within the novels. The manner in which Hawthorne depicts women is rather unfavorable toward the female sex. While Coverdale exhibits a feminist stance in his argument that women be considered equal, there is a blatant inequality of the characters. Priscilla, the Veiled Lady, is coerced into performing in a mysterious show and Zenobia is unable to go on without the love of Hollingsworth. Hollingsworth choosing Priscilla after Zenobia announces that she is now poor only affirms for the reader that women are not valued for their personality, intelligence, or love, but rather what they have to offer in terms of furthering the success of the man. Due to the staticity of the female characters in the novel, there is little evidence to prove they could provide much intrinsic value to a marriage. • 13. Expectancy Violation Theory In Communication The expectancy violation theory is a theory of communication that explains how people react when their expectations are exceeded or unsatisfied during a situation. Most of the time people are subconsciously making assessments during communication situations, and certain aspects analyzed by this theory help to reach a positive or negative conclusion. The expectancy violation theory analyzes situations by looking at what is predicted to occur, the value we place on the behavior presented, and the perceived power the person holds. When a person is about to engage in some form of communication they think of a list of behaviors the other individual normally adheres to. This list of anticipated behaviors can be referred to as expectancy (Griffin et al. 86). In established relationships the individuals may base their expectancy on previous encounters with the person, so the expectancy is also dependent on the individual s prior relationship (Miller Ott and Lynne 254). One of the behaviors that could be included on that list is personal space. Personal space is dependent on the setting the person is currently in. A violation would occur if the person comes up closer than the expected distance and starts talking. Once that initial violation occurs the individual s expectancy starts to look at how extreme the violation was. The expectancy aspect of the expectancy violation theory is crucial in one s understanding of a violation. Another key aspect of the expectancy violation theory ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 22. Argument Against Limiting Screen Time For Younger Children eople would argue against limiting screen time for younger children. However some arguments can be made for letting children watch television when they are very young. A poor mouse lost its youth for the effects of overstimulation to be proven, and such a valiant sacrifice should not go in vain. Along with the sacrifice of the mice that served under Dr. Christakis, our future citizens are having their perceptions of reality augmented even before they go to preschool or kindergarten. Combined with the attention deficit, these preconceived notions of different places can lead a school to have some serious issues. The core issue with this is that it is very difficult to moderate a child s viewing of the television, playing of video games, or accessing of the Internet, especially because younger people have more fluid of electronic devices. The benefits of caring for a child during its infancy, instead of sticking it in front of a screen, outweigh whatever free time would be obtained by letting the child experience over stimulation. Many of the people who deny that the media has an effect on children s violent behavior believe that the media is just seen as the main perpetrator because many parents fear it more than other factors. The media s ubiquitousness gives people everywhere one thing to look at and blame for the violence in their societies, because so much of what is in the media contains violence. This fear is mainly drawn out of parents lack of knowledge on how to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There is the theme of humans becoming as replaceable as machines. It has a theme of class division which leads to a Marxist type revolution. The theme I want to focus on in this paper however, is the religious themes and symbolism that are prevalent throughout the film, as I feel they are the most prominent. Metropolis makes a lot of calls to Judeo Christian religions and biblical stories, using its storytelling method, characterization, and visuals. • 30. Women And The Role Of Women In The 1920 s Women of The 1920s During the first World War I women were left at home to try and figure out how they were going to care for their families. Their husband, father, and brothers were sent off to war. Many companies around the United States were left with production needs and little to no employees to do the job. In a time period, where women are expected to be confident and independent, they had to also realize they had little to no power in society. They had societal rules that they must stay at home to cook, clean, and care for the children. With the men who were prominent in their lives coming and going from war. These factors caused the birth of a new era. This is the era where women were emerging. Women were changing by being more independent sexually and expressing their emotions through music, poetry, and movies. One important theme of the women of the 1920 s that connects various aspects of the women is their sexuality. • 41. Theme Of Individualism In Walt Whitman s Leaves Of Grass Individualism is important. This statement is made clear in Walt Whitman s book, Leaves of Grass, published in 1855. Leaves of Grass is a poetry collection composed in the nineteenth century, during the Westward Expansion. Contrary to popular poetic style in that period, Whitman wrote in free verse, meaning there was little to no rhyming or tempo. Individualism is a theme that sets the tone of Whitman s poems. Whitman uses the literary devices of repetition, asyndeton, imagery, and conflict to create the idea of individualism to set the tone. The repetition present in Whitman s works contributes significantly to the theme of his poems. Repetition can be used to emphasize differences; moreover, it can stress the individuality of every person. Whitman s work, I Hear America Singing, is an example of emphasizing differences, with lines 2 4 being, Those of mechanics, each one singing his as it should be blithe and strong, /The carpenter singing his as he measures his plank or beam, /The mason singing his as he makes ready for work, or leaves off work,... Singing what belongs to them, each has a unique song that only appertains to them. Similarities do appear in the repetition of Whitman s works, revealing that this literary device can create an effect of resemblance between ideas. Taken from O Me! Diomedes fills this gap with his piety, and teaches his victims the effects of battle. His first major victim is Pandarus, a great archer with arrogance, whose tongue he brutally rips out. He then scratches his next victim Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty, on her arm, maring her complexion. Diomedes then stabs Ares in the stomach, which cuts off the source of his appetites. Because Diomedes possesses a balanced soul and piety, he provides his victims with contrapasso punishment, that demonstrates to them the cost of war, making him a Greek hero. • 44. Bartleby The Scrivener Conflict Essay Bartleby is described as downright unemotional. He wrote noiselessly, weakly and mechanically, at first when he wrote. He is also described as someone who is almost nonexistent. The narrator s problems with his other employees have to do with their undependability, messiness and changing tempers. Turkey and Nippers are quite the contradictory of Bartleby, The main conflict that Bartleby the Scrivener presents is an internal problem. The narrator cannot deal with someone who appears to be invalid of any human features and characteristics. Ah, Bartleby! Ah, humanity! is the closing sentence in Melville s short story Bartleby the Scrivener. With this, the author may mean that it is of human nature to have faults, however losing the ability to emote and connect with one s surrounding world is possibly ... After Bartleby s arrival, business seem to go on as usual for a little while, at least. In the third day Bartleby has been a solid employee until he says prefers not to examine a paper with the lawyer, who is also the owner of the law firm, refusing to obey the order. Everyone is puzzled except for Bartleby himself. Right after that, Bartleby continues to repeat he prefers not to and becomes almost like a slogan for him. Here at Rosary, the biggest tradition involves the students putting on a huge show (Red and Gold) to build sisterhood, leadership, and a little bit of competition. Through Red and Gold, a show student run, we are all able to showcase our talents. Girls are hand selected based on their talents to be one of 100 captains. From there, these girls are put in charge of their classmates and are placed either on the Red or Gold team. Through months of preparation and practice, the captains teach or assist their classmates with their specific dances, drills, lines, songs, sets, publicity, costumes, and or tech. As a singer, being a choral captain was always one of my dreams. Everybody talked about Red and Gold for months. Students could not wait until the last 45 minutes of the day where all the students put down their books and focused on Red and Gold. Finally, the day we were told who got what captain spot. It was the last class of the day. I was sitting in my French Class, shaking from nerves. I could barely breath as they started to go through the categories. It seemed as though they would never get to the Choral Category. Finally, my category was next. As a sophomore I knew I wasn t likely to get a captain position, however I knew that ... A just law, according to King, is a man made code that squares with the moral code. An unjust law is a code that is out of harmony with the moral law. In the world we live in today most laws are just, but many issues are caused by prejudice people. Many are afraid to suffer the consequences that come with standing up for what is right. For me, suffering the consequences would be worth it if not everyone is given equal rights, one race is being attacked about a certain law, and if a law forces me to do something I refuse to do. In the United States everyone is promised freedom. I believe that means freedom of who you choose to be, and how you choose to live. During those times blacks on a bus were supposed to give up their seat to a white if all seats were taken, but she refused. Parks was later arrested because it was against the law to not give up your seat to a white rider if you were black. To my knowledge, there are no laws like that at the moment, but if one day there is I will go to jail for a law that is unjust and, again, gives other races a privilege than mine, and forces me to do something I refuse to do. Facing the consequences for breaking a law would be worth it if not everyone is given equal rights, because no one should be treated as less for who they are and choose to be. Laws pertain to every citizen, so if someone is being prejudice against one race there would be no second thought on my part to stand up against it. Also, just like Rosa Parks if a law forces me to do something I refuse to do I will got to jail.
