Research Paper On Soil Success
Making Soil Successful
Alexyss Luciano
University of Florida Introduction The health of a growing plant depends more on just the amount of
sun and water it intakes. The very soil that a plant grows in can effect the plant in ways such as height,
time it takes to grow, and ability to accept nutrients needed for life. Successful soil is more than just
sand and clay, it also contains millions of microorganisms and types of catalysts. Researchers have
studied the effects of mulch, what type of water is used, and soil content when growing a plant, but the
factor with the most influence is what makes up the soils composition. The purpose of studying soil is
to ensure healthy growth of plants because their populations are declining, ... Show more content on

This research emphasizes the importance of organic material in plant growth which has been proven
multiple times even when not included in the hypothesis. Soil is often made up of many different
ratios of clay and sand. Tampering with the ratios was proven effective by scientists when they
concluded that the clay to sand ratio of 3 to 1 was most useful in aiding the plants growth [5]. Clay is a
useful ingredient in the soil make up because it allows nematode reproduction, an organic compound
[5], which once again shows how adding organic matter into the soil formula can make it much more
nutritious for plants. In the many experiments that have been conducted, organic matter is almost
always the key variable, whether that be in if the matter is present or how much is present. Organic
matter is efficient with absorbing nutrients for plants, keeping soils thick and moist, and also creating
an extra water supply for plants [3]. Organic matter, like compost, manure, and plant residue, have
recently become more popular because of the rising prices and levels of environmental harm that
chemical fertilizers have [3]. Studies examining the use of compost in soil have found that fine
textured compost produces healthier plants than coarse textured compost [3], but unfortunately there is
not enough data to prove these conclusions to be one hundred percent accurate. Even though scientists
have discovered the best formulas to grow the healthiest

Factory Working Conditions Of Bangladesh
Factory Working Conditions In Bangladesh Does it take a catastrophic event for the factories in
Bangladesh to become know for the harsh working conditions? Most Americans don t understand, nor
do Americans see how the factories and sweatshop workers are affected by the unsafe environments,
the illegal use of children, and the minimal pay with no compensation. Americans take for granted the
pay received, and the type of working conditions that are set in order to for the business to operate.
Child labor laws in Bangladesh are very few in number, and the few that are set in place don t
completely protect the underage children working. Working in such a hazardous environment the
workers should be compensated in either pay or benefits. The working environments and conditions in
Bangladesh are not only harsh, but unsafe, and the workers are under compensated for the conditions.
Factories in Bangladesh have some of the worst working environments for workers to operate in.
There is no comparison between American factories, and factories in Bangladesh. In Bangladesh alone
some of the most catastrophic work hazards happen in the factories. In
Spencer 2
America certain laws are set in place to have guarantee that hazardous workplaces are under control,
and at a certain point. Otherwise the business and or factory would have to be shut down for unsafe
working conditions. On the 24th of April 2013 one of the most catastrophic

Why We Have Separate Political Parties In The 1790s
A) The founders of our nation believed that we as people have the right to be free, right to gather and
to have elected officials to represent our desires. But they were not so sure about having separate
political parties, but it seemed that there was no way around it, this issue was the reasons for
separation of one party over a few major issues. In the 1790s there were two groups of people with
opposing views on the how the government should run and set up. One of those groups was the
Federalists, who believed that the Constitution wasn t meant to be taken literally and wanted a strong
central government. The anti federalist or the Republicans, who supported the opposite. These two
groups became the first political parties.
Prior to the Constitution the country was ruled under the Articles of Confederation. These articles
gave the states most the power and left the government to be the middle man, coordinating efforts
between the states. One of the major concerns of the nation was how they were to defend themselves
since they had only state ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People who joined this party thought that they would be able to capitalize on the changes in the
industry. They also believed that this party would give better law and order and that too many
commoners supporting the Democrats would endanger that order. The Whig party started by men such
as Henry Clay and Daniel Webster, around the year 1833. The National Republican Party was
absorbed by the Whig Party in the mid 1830s. The party had many conflicts within its self, such as
policy on slavery and the eventual demise of these leaders, that led to the end of the party. The Whig
Party officially remained a party until 1856, when it was officially declared dead. The Whig party
died, but they did not choose to join the Republican party but instead joined the Constitutional Union

Essay about Analysis of “the Tyger” and “the Lamb”
In The Tyger, William Blake explains that there is more that meets the eye when one examines the
Creator and his creation, the tiger. The character is never defined. All throughout the poem the
character questions the Creator of the tiger to determine if the Creator is demonic or godlike. The
poem reflects mainly the character s reaction to the tiger, rather than the tiger s reaction to the world.
The character is inquiring about the location of the Creator of the tiger when he says, In what distant
deeps or skies (5). In this quote the character is trying to figure out where exactly the Creator is
located. He wants to know if he s in Heaven or Hell. The words deeps and skies could have many
meanings. The description of deeps ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On one hand this is a reference to the God of the Bible; but on the other, it could be a reference to
Blake himself. Surely, the poem is as inspiring as it is ambiguous. Someone that is of no religion
would think other wise or maybe someone wouldn t care who made the tiger.
Blake uses symbols to express the strength of the tiger and its Creator. The main symbol in The Tyger
is the tiger itself. The tiger is formed on a number of ideas, which is the eye of man and God, but it is
also a sign of the very same eye, which created it. The word fire is used to exemplify the aggressive
character of the tiger, Burnt the fire of thine eyes? (6). The fire can be used to describe the way the
tiger sees and is seen by other people. When a person sees or comes into contact with a tiger, the
person gets tense right away because we know that one false move and the tiger may attack. This
example shows how vicious and hostile the tiger can be just as a hurricane. The Creator could also be
described as a hostile person also. This might be a depiction of himself. The sign of fire is leading in
the structure of the poem. To know the foundation of the fire is to know the source of the Creator. He
relates the tiger s environment to one during the Industrial Revolution when he says, What the
hammer? What the chain? / In what furnace was thy brain? (13 14). This tells

Persuasive Essay About Being Gay
Hey Shelby, I have to tell you something but I honestly don t know how to say it. James what is it, I m
scared. Why does it take this much energy to just tell me something? Here, I ll write it on a piece of
paper and don t open it until after I leave. (A few minutes later) Aww James you re gay I always knew
it thanks for telling me. Umm I kind of can t talk right now I m in class. Growing up as a homosexual
male has been challenging for me. This challenge has resulted in me not accepting my own self and
reality, and coming to terms with who I really am. I ve tried to deny it, date girls and just prove that I
was straight, but I was tired of lying to myself and others. Being gay has always been frowned upon in
today s society and it is a sad reality. I have finally come to terms with who I am, and this is me! I am
gay! Growing up as a gay male has been a hard thing in today s society. Due to the unfortunate
circumstances that happened in Orlando and knowing that being gay isn t the new cool ; people have a
hard time coming out because they don t want to be a minority. This is exactly what happened to me. I

Chronic Sinusitis
Sinusitis is the inflammation or the swelling of the membrane that lines the paranasal sinuses. Normal
sinuses are filled with air but a person who suffers from sinusitis has their sinuses filled with fluid,
bacteria/viruses/fungi. The fluid, bacteria/viruses/fungi result in the sinus infection (WebMD, 2015).
The paranasal sinuses are composed of four pairs of air filled spaces: Frontal sinuses Ethmoid sinuses
Maxillary sinuses Sphenoid sinuses These air filled spaces are located around the area of the eyes and
the nasal cavity. Most common symptoms include nasal discharge and pain in the facial region
(NIAID). Viral sinuses takes 10 days to improve and the symptoms don t get worse on the other hand
a bacterial sinus does not have a set amount of days it s defined by the duration of the symptoms.
Fungal sinus is associated with chronic sinuses, this results because of weak immune systems or long
term antibiotics (Casperen, 2015). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

and the person becomes more susceptible to the microenvironment resulting in infection as mentioned
above. Sinusitis can be classified in four classes; acute symptoms (less than 4 weeks), subacute
symptoms (between 4 to 8 weeks), chronic symptoms (longer than 8 weeks) and recurring symptoms

Negative Effects Of Television Violence On Society
Television Violence
Television violence has a negative effect on society. Violence is everywhere on television. A question
people ask often does violence on television has negative influence on society. Majority of people
believe that violence on television does have negative influences on society. Television violence has a
negative effect on society because it can influence to become violent and take drugs in the future.
Scientist has also tested and proven that television violence has negative influence on society.
Television has many shows with violence with it like Power ranger, Criminal Mind, and The Walking
Dead. In the show The Walking Dead is a show where a group of people try to survive in a zombie
apocalypse and have to use guns to shoot down the zombies. A child mind is easily molded easily, so
when a child sees violence on a television show they can learn to do violent actions in the future. An
example of this is when a child watches a show with a lot of fighting in it. Shows with a lot of fighting
in it are Power rangers and The kids next store. Most children mimic what happens on television and
start learning violent actions. This can lead to the child to think that violence is tolerable and start to
do more violence actions in the future. Later when they become adult they are more likely to use
violence to solve their problems. An example of this happening is when an adult is teased and start a
fight with someone. Not all shows have violence in them, Dora the explora and Curious George are
shows that are educational. In Dora the explora a girl with her monkey friend go on adventure and
have to use problem solving to get to their destination. Scientists like Leonard Eron have tested that
television does have a negative effect on society. The study of human behavior is Anthropologist and
archeologist. The scientist tested if television had a negative effect on society. They tested this by
having parent volunteer their child to watch several type of shows. The children were separated into
two group, group A and group B. Group A were shown violent shows and group B was shown
educational shows. Eight years after the test children from group A were more likely to be more
aggressive and do

Persuasive Essay On Music Education
Music Education Despite the vast number of children who learn musical instruments, many people
still do not fully understand all the benefits of music education. When budget cuts and low funding
threaten course elimination, music is often one of the first to go. This should not be the case, however,
because learning to play an instrument can build self esteem, increase various social and academic
skills and can help them become a well rounded person (Montgomery). Music education is incredibly
valuable, especially for children. The benefits that children can gain from learning music will make
lasting impacts on them. Playing musical instruments has copious benefits on a child s intellect, and
social skills, and personal growth. Learning music has incredible benefits on children s cognitive
development and intelligence. Children gain many skills through music, and a child learning about
music has to tap into multiple skill sets, often simultaneously (Brown). Learning music substantially
helps children grow in other areas of learning. In a study by E. Glenn Schellenberg, six year olds were
given voice and piano lessons and their IQ s were compared to six year olds without music lessons. At
the end of the experiment, ...the children who were given music lessons over the school year tested on
average three IQ points higher than the other groups (Brown). When children are involved in music,
they are increasing their intellectual capacity. The ability to play or sing music can help children in
math, english, and and problem solving. There have been countless studies and research that show
higher test scores and grades in musical students when compared to non musical students. In fact, a
research team exploring the link between music and intelligence reported that music training is far
superior to computer instruction in dramatically enhancing children s abstract reasoning skills, the
skills necessary for learning math and science (Shankar Mahadevan Academy). Music is an artistic
area of study, but clearly has a strong impact on important core subjects for students. Through
understanding rhythm and scales, as well as beats per measure, children can learn about fractions and
other math skills. Reading the

Contributions Of Langston Hughes
In the 1920s to the 1930s, millions of African Americans migrated from the rural south to the north in
hopes of a better life. During the Great Migration, black southerners moved to the city of Harlem,
New York. The large migration of talented blacks changed the city of Harlem. African Americans had
a chance to show what they can do, and many were interested in art music, and literature. African
Americans had amazing talents in all fields: composers, poets, journalists and artists. This gave Africa
Americans the opportunity to express themselves, their thoughts, and their talents. Langston Hughes
used his talent to change the racial boundaries of the American society, and he became an important
figure in the fight for equal rights. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hughes separated himself from other American American who wrote for white listeners. He wanted to
embrace his African American identity by writing in black dialect. Hughes wanted to make clear that
black writers are no different from any other writers. In the poem The Negro Artist and the Racial
Mountain One of the most promising of the young Negro poets said to me once, I want to be a poet
not a Negro poet, meaning, I believe, I want to write like a white poet ; meaning subconsciously, I
would like to be a white poet ; meaning behind that, I would like to be white. (Harlem Dream
Deferred p.5) Hughes wanted blacks to appreciate their own work and not worry about what the white
man think. If white people are pleased we are glad. If they are not, it doesn t matter. We know we are
beautiful and ugly too. (Steve King p.1) Racism is the mountain that is standing in the way of black
arts in America. Being a black artist was a way to prove that black writers could produce literature
equal of quality to white writers. During this time period, the works of African Americans could be
just as good, if not better, than white Americans. African American artists were frequently
underappreciated for their talents. Blacks artists were often criticized by whites in a negative way.
Many whites felt like blacks were dumb and good for noting people. Hughes

Chaos And Chaos In Oedipus
Chaos is an ubiquitous force in nature that can found anywhere and at anytime. A little chaos is the
key to keeping society together, but an excessive amount is detrimental to humanity and the ways of
the world. Oedipus Rex by Sophocles and Oedipus Out of Joint by Jean Pierre Vernant help us
understand Oedipus s downfall and the devious role chaos plays in the whole affair. Attempting to
fight for order in the battle against chaos for authority, his actions serve as an expedient for the
pandemonium that develops in his life meanwhile entrapping himself in an inescapable entanglement
that he inadvertently inflicts upon himself.
Chaos has the uncanny ability of slipping through the cracks of a city s firm foundation and poisoning
the area. Disguised as a hero, Oedipus is welcomed as the king of Thebes and is endlessly praised for
his gallantry and wisdom. Citizens view him as the savior who rescued them from the Sphinx s wrath,
but unbeknownst to them and even Oedipus himself, he is the very pollution who causes all the
ongoing chaos in the city. He vows to expose and penalize the murderer for the unjustified act of
regicide to appease Apollo and lift the plague, yet when Teiresias accuses him of being the
contamination, he repudiates the charge and blames Creon instead of accepting responsibility. His
wisdom fails him even with evidence staring him in the face, and hubris blinds him to the painful truth
that he killed his own blood. By slaughtering his father, he takes Laius s identity and transfers into the
stage of an old man: But the moment he slips into old age... he becomes at best a man of words and of
wise counsel, and at worst a pitiable wreck (Vernant, 167). Once Oedipus is unmasked as the
perpetrator, they pity the broken man he becomes, but are disgusted by his vileness, and exile him to a
lifetime of suffering protecting themselves from the fury of Apollo that Oedipus imposes upon them.
Just as chaos can unconsciously invade a city, it can seep into the mind, the fragile thing. Quick to
anger, Oedipus s actions only manages to provoke resentment he will learn to regret later on. Rage?

The War Of The Worlds By H. G. Wells
The 19th century was a transformative one in human history, resulting in changes of globalization
through colonialism, numerous scientific achievements which led to industrialization, and an
emergence of new philosophical thoughts which placed emphasis on human nature. The War of the
Worlds, by H. G. Wells, was a reflection of its time, and it shows the idea of imperialism at the time
by exploring how the differences between Martians and humans causes a moral disconnect which was
an allegory to express the British lack of empathy toward their colonies, how radical ideologies took
advantage of that disconnect for their own profit, and why imperialism is morally hypocritical.
Martins were able to fight humans so successfully because of their advanced technology. The Martian
cavalry units were composed of many monstrous tripod[s], higher than many houses, striding over the
young pine trees, and smashing them aside in its career. Furthermore, one of the ways the author
believes the Martians can kill effectively is through the use of heat rays, which causes whatever is
combustible flashes into flame at its touch, lead runs like water, it softens iron, cracks and melts glass
[sic]. However, while Martians had complex technologies, they were physically simple; They were
heads merely heads. Entrails they had none. Martians were also fair weak, being bipeds with flimsy,
silicious skeletons (almost like those of the silicious sponges) and feeble musculature. The idea

Acts Of Paul And Thecla Analysis
The account of Saint Thecla, as found in the literary piece, The Acts of Paul and Thecla, reveal the
fervid passion of a woman in her pursuit of the monotheistic God, risking life and limb on her quest to
make His gospel known. While the woman herself remains in question, her legacy continues as a
strong representation of the role of women in the early Church a position often denied to many women
by the patriarchal nature of the institution. Thecla defied the early leaders, pushing herself into a realm
where only men had dared to enter, and succeeded in bringing an entire region under the wing of her
Christian religion. Thecla was a leader, a visionary but, first and foremost, she was a woman. The Acts

Poetry Analysis Of Sonnet 18 By William Shakespeare
Poetry Analysis Sonnet 18
Poetry is a form of literature that uses powerful aesthetic and rhythmic qualities of language, such as
phonaesthetics, sound symbolism, and metre, to evoke meanings in addition to, or instead of, the
prosaic ostensible meaning. It can be used to describe a person or tell a random, captivating story.
Love poetry has been used since the beginning of writing to express feelings and thoughts; usually
about another person. Love poetry is said to have a huge effect, and connection, to the way gender and
its roles are portrayed. This is not always the case, as Love is limitless and not confined to definitive
boundaries. William Shakespeare definitely supported this theory as no one can ever be certain who he
is talking about in his sonnets. He talks about love for people, or a person, and not for a gender.is one
of the most famous poets, and is most well known for his love poems and plays. Shakespeare s sonnet
18 focuses on the loveliness of a friend or lover. The speaker is initially asked a rhetorical question
comparing them to a summer s day. Shakespeare then goes on to introduce the pros and cons of the
weather; from a perfect English summer s day, to a less welcoming dimmed sun and rough winds. In
the end, however, it is the riveting poetry that will keep the burning love alive, defying even death.
William Shakespeare s sonnets are known around the world, and are studied by most students. His
sonnets are split into two parts, sonnets 1 to 126

Plurality And Pluralism In Islam
Based upon my further observation as a scholar and a Muslim, I find a lot of incompatibility about
your interpretation of Islam with the Qur an. The Qur an implies that all religions shall be more
emphasis on pluralism (diversity and tolerance), and I do believe in it. According to my understanding
on pluralism in Islam, it emphasizes more to the religious tolerance, and does not view Islam as the
only religion to be recognized in the world. Pluralism I meant here also can simply be recognized as a
major foundation in maintaining the state and the society because basically people are diverse one
another. As a true pluralism means acknowledging that all members of society have a right to be able
to embrace the religion in which accordance with their beliefs and everyone is obliged to respect and

Transcendentalism Of Thoreau And Walden
The 19th century was a time of social change and enlightenment that sent ripples of influence into
many aspects of the American culture, including art and literature. Prominent figures such as Thoreau
and Cole emerged. Thoreau was a philosopher and writer whose works such as Walden lead the
literary evolution of Transcendentalism. Similarly, Cole, a, was a founding figure in the fledgling art
movement called the Hudson River School. Both men were shaped by the same influence of a rapidly
transforming society, and from this environment they expressed similar beliefs in areas such as anti
industrialization. This antagonism towards industrialization was balance by their reverence towards
nature; mankind was viewed as infinitesimal in comparison. The animosity for industrialization
combined with respect for nature also lead to Cole and Thoreau s support towards the preservation of

easily cut [our] threads any time with a sharper blast from the North. Thoreau is alluding to the Three
Fates of Greek mythology. The Three Fates were omnipotent figures who has complete power over
mankind: they weave and create the threads of men s lives, but also had complete jurisdiction to cut,
and end, the life threads. By comparing nature to the Three Fates, Thoreau credited nature with power
akin to that of a god. Cole expressed similar views in his painting The Oxbow. In the painting, Cole
depicted himself sitting atop the hill of wilderness. However, his figure was painted as a mere speck in
comparison to the awe inspiring grandness of the nature around him. This juxtaposition of scale
comments upon man s place in the universe, that we are all subordinate to the whims of nature. This is
matched and enhanced by te storm clouds which serves as an reminder of nature s high power at

Explain Why Is It Important To Have A Systematic Way For...
Why is it important to have a systematic way for naming compounds? Well think about it. There are
millions of chemical compounds that can be changed by simply adding or removing a single atom, and
by doing so, the compounds name would change. The result being a list of compounds, impossible to
memorize. With our systematic way of listing and naming compounds, it makes it easy to keep track
of all organic and inorganic compounds. An organic compound is any member of a large class of
gaseous, liquid, or solid chemical compounds whose molecules contain carbon. An inorganic
compound could be simply looked at as a compound, that s not organic. Some simple compounds
which contain carbon are usually considered inorganic. These include carbon monoxide, ... Show

Aqueous solutions of acids have a pH of less than 7. All of these factors help make up the inorganic
substances. When writing a chemical formula, you use the Hill system. In this system, you write out
carbon atoms first, hydrogen atoms second, and then all other atoms in alphabetical order (if the
formula contains no hydrogen or carbon atoms, then you simply sort all the elements alphabetically).
A binary compound is a chemical compound that contains two different elements. The opposite would
be a polyatomic ion compound which is a chemical compound that consists of more than one atom.
the difference between them is binary compounds have two different elements where as polyatomic
ion compounds have two or more atoms. One contains compounds (which are already atoms put
together) and one contains only atoms. A substances name depends on its compounds and atoms. The
chart above names NO2 (NO_2)as nitrogen dioxide. This is its name because it has one nitrogen
(nitrogen) and two oxygen (dioxide). Each chemical has a symbol and each compound has a name.
This is how we write them

Plain Folk Of A Rich Man s War
Plain Folk in a Rich Man s War is a narrative of the Civil War in Georgia from the perspective of those
who were not a part of the elite planter class. As opposed to focusing on the war from the
romanticized Lost Cause viewpoint championed by mainstream media, this book tells the often
glossed over struggles of the tenant farmers, sharecroppers, and other poor whites who supplied much
of the Confederacy s fighting force. The war time experiences of these plain folk is broken up into
three main sections: the actions of the Confederate government and the planter class, the plain folk s
responses to these actions during the war, and how this chain of circumstances ultimately led to the
downfall of the Confederacy and Union victory in the Civil War. In doing so, this book bridges a
significant gap in the literature by illuminating an aspect of the war usually overshadowed by the idea
that the Confederacy, composed of genteel southern gentlemen and their belles, was united behind
Jefferson Davis from secession until surrender at Appomattox. A cursory examination of popular
culture will reveal a very rosy picture of life in the southern United States even today. The summers
are hotter, the tea is sweeter, and the conversation is slower. We pride ourselves on hospitality and
moss draped sycamore trees. The Civil War, more commonly known below the Mason Dixon as the
War of Northern Aggression , is talked about as though it was the end of a way of life longed to be

Octopus Research Paper
An alien with eight great appendages, the octopus, is a carnivore that lives for about one year to two
years. It creates ghosts with its ink and can taste with its skin. It has numerous suckers that vary from
an octopus to another based on their size. These suckers are like tongues because they contain
chemoreceptors that allow them to taste their surroundings as they move across the sea floor. Sever
any of its limbs and it will keep moving like a snake. It can completely change its form for three tenths
of a second, and some people may even believe that it can predict the future. This mysterious

These octopuses are just changing their forms and adapting to become stealthy ninjas of the sea. Just
three tenths of a second is all that they take to camouflage themselves. The octopuses change their
colors and patterns without notice. This process is called a rapid adaptive coloration. For example, the
chameleons have a slow change in color, forms, and a different limited repertoire. However, octopuses
have this quick change in color if they ever felt that danger surrounds them. They would amend the
color of their skin to the color of a stone. Octopuses are highly intelligent and gifted animals.
According to science, they have most of their neurons in the nerve cords of their arms and the
remaining in their brain. This gives them a highly sophisticated nervous system. Octopuses are kind of
like puppies sometimes. They are playful and can be found at times to toss empty rocks or bottles and
catch them in sort of a playful manner. Like all puppies or most of them, they can be trained to
distinguish between patterns, and sometimes, shapes. Octopuses are such magnificent creatures that
they can be occasionally seen in cargo ships stealing crabs due to hunger, like the bandits of the sea.

Du Pont Paper Capital Structure Case
B.A. 142 CASE 2
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
E. I. du Pont de Nemours is an American chemical company that has recently acquired the major oil
company of Conoco Inc. and is becoming one of the largest chemical manufacturers in the United
States. Its financial conservatism has pushed Du Pont to the forefront of the industry as its profitability
soared, providing it with the liquidity to readily finance its cash needs. But several competitive
conditions posed a challenge to its risk averse financial policy as the 1970 s was characteristic of a
declining level of industry demand and price, along with rising fuel prices and an economic recession.
These pressures now force Du Pont to source its financing through debt, foregoing its risk averse ...

During the 1980s, Du Pont entered and won a bidding contest for Conoco, doubling its size and
significantly increasing its orientation toward undifferentiated commodity products, but this move,
however, was responded with negativity by the industry analysts. The purchase of Conoco was
financed through issuance of common stock and a floating rated debt, propelling Du Pont s debt ratio
from 20% to 40%, downgrading its bond rating to AA, the first time in the company s history. With
declining oil prices hampering the the company s performance, and an economic recession plaguing
the chemical industry, its return on capital and earnings per share fell dramatically.
Du Pont s financial policy had always been based on maximization of financial flexibility. Taking to
consideration the riskiness of Du Pont s businesses, its competitive position and profitability had
declined in the last 20 years. Moreover, the firm is still forced to seek external financing each year for
the next five years (1983 1987) due to the continued high level of capital expenditures which are
considered non deferrable to redress the causes of poor performance. In view of the importance and

Persuasive Speech On Conformity In Science
How bizarre would it be to live in a world where people still believed the Earth was flat? Or if doctors
were drilling holes into their patient s heads for migraine relief ? Luckily, we exist on a planet where
curios forefathers have already paved the scientific highway to innovation. If renowned scientist such
as Isaac Newton and Albert Einstein had followed the scientific norms of their time, rather challenge
accepted beliefs; they would have never made crucial discoveries that impact our world today.
Furthermore, people should understand that scientific creativity is vital for progression. Resisting
conformity is important within the scientific community; it is said that in science people must question
everything, and provide evidence to support their discoveries. Proving or disproving beliefs have an
impact on our daily lives, and the most critical discoveries were made by creative minds.
Despite the advice of peers being highly valued, one should refrain from succumbing to the scientific
beliefs of others without question. In science, conformity could be described as a parasite draining
intelligence from humanity. In order to learn and grow, we must cultivate our minds by thoroughly
understanding the principles of a subject. However, most pupils have become accustomed to taking
their teacher s lessons at face value, and tend to memorize subjects in contrast to than learning them.
This problematic pathway to education results in students who don t know how to make

Racial profiling is an ever growing issue in the world. Not growing in that it is becoming more of an
issue, but growing in that citizens who are not victims are finally seeing and understanding racial
profiling and its role in the criminal justice system, and also victims themselves are becoming more
outspoken and encouraged to fight back about the injustices they are facing. The two go hand in hand,
as there are more people willing to listen, there are more people willing to speak out. The first and

falls into a similar style of categorization, but it is also perpetuated by citizens themselves, through
their own racist ideologies or through their disinterest and lack of initiative to change the way society
and the legal system view minorities. There is also the factor of it being a very difficult task to address
the problem of racial profiling in the criminal justice system because small scale legal reforms do not
seem to be making an impact, and large scale legal reforms are very difficult to foster. These factors
are extremely essential to consider as the only way to determine the best course of action to avoid a
system such as racial profiling, is by acknowledging and deconstructing the very structures that keep
the practice in place in the first place. It is especially important to consider legal and social factors as
these factors would be so ingrained into our society and the comfort of our everyday lives that many
would not bother to give a second thought on the discussion. The only way to grow and evolve as a
society (with the inclusion of a growing and evolving legal system) is to continue to question what we
believe we know and to challenge the structures prevailing in our society that in any way seem unfair
or unjust. For this reason,

My Paper On Is Educational Psychology
The topic pertinent to psychology that i chose to do my paper on is educational psychology.
Educational psychology is the study of how humans learn and retain knowledge, primarily in
educational settings like classrooms. This branch not only involves just the learning process of early
childhood and adolescence but it also involves the social, emotional, and cognitive learning processes
that are involved in humans throughout their entire lifespan. Educational psychology combines
numerous amounts of other branches of psychology, including: developmental psychology, behavioral
psychology, and cognitive psychology. Educational psychology is an approximately new subfield that
has had a huge amount of growth in recent years. The four major perspectives in educational
psychology are: Behavioral perspective, developmental perspective, cognitive perspective, and the
constructivist approach. The behavioral perspective proposes that all behaviors are learned through
conditioning. An example of this would be a teacher handing out tickets for participating in class or
good behavior that can later be exchanged for candy or toys. The developmental perspective suggest
how children obtain new skills and knowledge as they develop. An example of this is Jean Piaget s
distinguished stages of cognitive development. The cognitive perspective has become much more
acclaimed in recent decades, mostly because it suggest how things such as memories, emotions,
motivations, and beliefs influence

No Left Hand Rule In Guatemalan Essay
I m from Senegal, a country in West Africa, located in the westernmost point of the continent, and as
we may know, Africa is a land of culture and diversity. To that adds ethnic, religious and superstitious
beliefs. There are many things unique to the heritage of Senegal. One of the most important one is the
no left hand rule , a superstition strongly influenced by religion.
The Senegalese people are very superstitious. As the vast majority of the population in Senegal is
Muslim, this means that traditional Islamic rules, lifestyles and beliefs are followed by many people.
Of these rules, it is considered very disrespectful and rude to use your left hand to eat or even greet
anyone with. For example, in a conventional Senegalese household, people share food on one big
bowl because they believe it betters the relationships of the ones eating it. However, the people eating
will feel very offended if anyone puts there left hand in the bowl and might refuse to keep eating due
to the negativity they believe it might bring. To them the left hand doesn t represent anything positive;
hence you shouldn t eat, drink or greet people with your left hand. Even when cooking, it s advised to

Essay on The Hard-Boiled Detective
The movie The Maltese Falcon is about a private investigator who is striving to unravel the mystery
surrounding a black enamelled bird known as the Maltese Falcon. Samuel Spade, the protagonist of
the story, is what was known as a hard boiled detective. Men such as that rarely show a tender side (if
they have one). Likewise, they are physically tough, frequently resorting to guns or fists to get what
they want. In addition, they tend to be amoral, yet with an inflexible code of honour of their own. The
first element of the persona of the hard boiled detective is the fact that they rarely show an affectionate

In The Maltese Falcon, Sam never carries a gun. However, he does use his fists a number of times.
When Cairo comes to his office the first time, he pulls a gun on Sam. Spade then disarms him and
knocks him out in order to search him. Later on, in his apartment, he slaps Cairo when he refuses to
cooperate. Finally, he disarms Wilmer in the hotel just to show that he has control. Like most of the
hard boiled detectives of this era, Spade uses aggression to fulfill his goals. The third attribute of the
hard boiled detective is that they are often amoral. Sam Spade certainly fits this criteria. To begin, we
find out that he is having an affair with his partner s, Miles Archer, wife. That, however, is just the
beginning. After Miles dies Spade wants nothing more to do with Mrs. Archer and continually pushes
her away. He shows no loyalty to anyone other than himself. He is not upset at his partner s death.
Instead, he treats it like any other murder case. He acts with coldness towards other people and does
what helps him instead of applying to the moral code that most people use. Finally, the hard boiled
detectives of this era also had an inflexible code of honour themselves. Sam Spade, though often
insensitive and selfish, does have honour. First of all he give the police the money he takes from
Gutman as a bribe to use as evidence against the four criminals. Secondly, he turns Brigit in. This is

Why Is Cursive Writing Obsolete
I believe cursive writing is obsolete because I never learned how to write in cursive nor have I ever
needed to. As said in the first argument Cursive is a common teaching tool for students with dyslexia,
a reading disorder. this is true because you can t mix up letters in cursive. I think that cursive shouldnt
be a required thing to learn in school, but should always be available if needed. Most high schools and
colleges expect you to turn in typed, rather than handwritten, papers. The survey took in 2012 given to
handwriting teachers, only 37% of them wrote cursive.
First, I believe that cursive writing should not be required but should be available for those who want
or need to learn it. If a student with dyslexia or any other brain disorder was to ask to learn cursive so
that they had less touble with there disorder than it should be available for them. Even just a student

Accordingly, the 10th Amendment of the Constitution s Bill of Rights addresses that, The powers not

this constitution. This insinuates that the Congress can carry out any action that is not directly
specified in the Constitution but considered necessary and proper to exercise those enumerated powers
that are specified. The effect of such clause was witnessed in the 1819 Supreme Court case,
McCulloch v. Maryland. In this case, the state of Maryland imposed a heavy tax on a bank installed by

Compare And Contrast The Truman Show And Animal Farm
The Truman Show , directed by Peter Weir and Animal Farm , written by George Orwell both explore
the ideas of the good life, how the main characters of both texts have a lack of the good life. Control,
the animals and Truman being controlled without them knowing it. Freedom, and how the main
characters do not have a great deal of it. These views have been displayed in both The Truman Show
and Animal Farm. These ideas are presented through the characters and events throughout both texts,
they are used in different ways, yet mainly turn out to be not very good things.
The good life, the life one would like to live, does not always turn out the way one would wish it to.
Look at that sunset, Truman. It s perfect . In the opinion of everyone, Truman s life is perfect.
Seahaven was built for Truman to live the good life, the life that everyone desired. In the eyes of
Truman, his opinions are different. Seahaven was built for him, in the eyes of someone else s idea of a
good life, not his own. Truman wants to go to Fiji and be with Sylvia, his idea of the good life is
different to what he currently lives. Likewise to Truman wanting the good life, the animals desire the
good life. They come together as animals, working together and agreeing to the seven commandments
to build the life they all would like to live, all of them being equal. All animals are equal . Despite
wanting to have equality, they do not reach their goal of equality as along the way the commandment
changes.

year before Carnival happens, the samba schools already begin to work hard for the following year.

Maus Sparknotes
Maus is a tale about a young man who is in search for answers about his own life and his father s life.
Vladek Spiegelman is a survivor of the holocaust who reconnects with his son Art Spiegelman by
telling him stories of his past. Art creates a well written comic tale about the Holocaust and the
relationship he has with his father. This survivor s tale takes you back to the Second World War to tell
us a story of a Jew who hardly survived life.
The story opens with Art visiting his father to get more information about his father s experiences in
WWII so he can write a book. The first chapter of the tale reveals Art s family. His father, who lives in
Rego Park, remarried a holocaust survivor named Mala. Mala and Vladek continuously fight and
Vladek wishes he never got remarried. Art s real mother committed suicide in 1968 when Art was
twenty years old. Art never really got to know his mother the way he wanted to. The book reveals that
Art s mother had diaries but Vladek threw them away because he did not want to relive those
memories. After Anja died I had to make an order with everything...these papers had to many
memories. So I burned them. (Maus 1, pg104). Art wanted those diaries because he wanted to know
what his mother went through. He had so many questions he wanted answers to. After Art s mother
died, he did not keep a close relationship with his father. They lived separate lives until Art
reconnected with his father again to write a story about his life. The tale

The Great Dictator s Speech By Charlie Chaplin
In The Great Dictator s Speech spoken by Charlie Chaplin, a famous actor in the early 20th century,
seems to talk about the evils in the world and how mankind should all unite and make peace with one
another without the need for war, death, and petty rivalries. However, the goal of the speaker in this
speech actually points towards his desire to gain power, which he will then abuse as it is written in the
name, The Great Dictators Speech. The main purpose of the speech itself is to inform people and all of
humanity has the power of themselves rather than a dictator. In other words: Freedom and peace in the
world. Chaplin s character talks of how man has fallen, succumbed to greed and misery, which then
turns into war and bloodshed. He uses this to convince people they all must set aside their differences
to unite as one to prevent future struggles in the world. In his first quote Chaplin says, We all want to
help one another. human beings are like that. We want to live by each other s happiness not by each
other s misery. We don t want to hate and despise one another. In this world there is room for
everyone. He is stating in this text that the world would be a better place should people work together
and exercise the love of looking out for one another. If men weren t so preoccupied with greed and
self gratification, negative emotions like hate and misery would cease. The next quote states, The hate
of men will pass, and dictators will die, and the power they

She has her hands spread out similar to the cross of Jesus Christ (Tate Gallery). Therefore, Ophelia
acts as the cross of Jesus Christ. On the other hand, her crossed fingers could also symbolize the

The painting Ophelia is based on William Shakespeare s play the Helmet. The play was characterized
with passion, conflicts and power. One of the characters, Claudius, feels envy towards his brother who
is the ruler of Denmark. Other characters are Ophelia and Hamlet who are in love each other. Then
Hamlet develops a great desire to avenge his father while Ophelia feels that she is responsible for
Hamlet s problems. Ophelia decides to commit suicide due to the guilt. Hence, the Ophelia painting is

  • 2. Research Paper On Soil Success Making Soil Successful Alexyss Luciano University of Florida Introduction The health of a growing plant depends more on just the amount of sun and water it intakes. The very soil that a plant grows in can effect the plant in ways such as height, time it takes to grow, and ability to accept nutrients needed for life. Successful soil is more than just sand and clay, it also contains millions of microorganisms and types of catalysts. Researchers have studied the effects of mulch, what type of water is used, and soil content when growing a plant, but the factor with the most influence is what makes up the soils composition. The purpose of studying soil is to ensure healthy growth of plants because their populations are declining, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This research emphasizes the importance of organic material in plant growth which has been proven multiple times even when not included in the hypothesis. Soil is often made up of many different ratios of clay and sand. Tampering with the ratios was proven effective by scientists when they concluded that the clay to sand ratio of 3 to 1 was most useful in aiding the plants growth [5]. Clay is a useful ingredient in the soil make up because it allows nematode reproduction, an organic compound [5], which once again shows how adding organic matter into the soil formula can make it much more nutritious for plants. In the many experiments that have been conducted, organic matter is almost always the key variable, whether that be in if the matter is present or how much is present. Organic matter is efficient with absorbing nutrients for plants, keeping soils thick and moist, and also creating an extra water supply for plants [3]. Organic matter, like compost, manure, and plant residue, have recently become more popular because of the rising prices and levels of environmental harm that chemical fertilizers have [3]. Studies examining the use of compost in soil have found that fine textured compost produces healthier plants than coarse textured compost [3], but unfortunately there is not enough data to prove these conclusions to be one hundred percent accurate. Even though scientists have discovered the best formulas to grow the healthiest ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Factory Working Conditions Of Bangladesh Factory Working Conditions In Bangladesh Does it take a catastrophic event for the factories in Bangladesh to become know for the harsh working conditions? Most Americans don t understand, nor do Americans see how the factories and sweatshop workers are affected by the unsafe environments, the illegal use of children, and the minimal pay with no compensation. Americans take for granted the pay received, and the type of working conditions that are set in order to for the business to operate. Child labor laws in Bangladesh are very few in number, and the few that are set in place don t completely protect the underage children working. Working in such a hazardous environment the workers should be compensated in either pay or benefits. The working environments and conditions in Bangladesh are not only harsh, but unsafe, and the workers are under compensated for the conditions. Factories in Bangladesh have some of the worst working environments for workers to operate in. There is no comparison between American factories, and factories in Bangladesh. Why We Have Separate Political Parties In The 1790s A) The founders of our nation believed that we as people have the right to be free, right to gather and to have elected officials to represent our desires. But they were not so sure about having separate political parties, but it seemed that there was no way around it, this issue was the reasons for separation of one party over a few major issues. In the 1790s there were two groups of people with opposing views on the how the government should run and set up. One of those groups was the Federalists, who believed that the Constitution wasn t meant to be taken literally and wanted a strong central government. The anti federalist or the Republicans, who supported the opposite. These two groups became the first political parties. • 6. Essay about Analysis of “the Tyger” and “the Lamb” In The Tyger, William Blake explains that there is more that meets the eye when one examines the Creator and his creation, the tiger. The character is never defined. All throughout the poem the character questions the Creator of the tiger to determine if the Creator is demonic or godlike. The poem reflects mainly the character s reaction to the tiger, rather than the tiger s reaction to the world. The character is inquiring about the location of the Creator of the tiger when he says, In what distant deeps or skies (5). In this quote the character is trying to figure out where exactly the Creator is located. He wants to know if he s in Heaven or Hell. The words deeps and skies could have many meanings. The description of deeps ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On one hand this is a reference to the God of the Bible; but on the other, it could be a reference to Blake himself. Surely, the poem is as inspiring as it is ambiguous. Someone that is of no religion would think other wise or maybe someone wouldn t care who made the tiger. Blake uses symbols to express the strength of the tiger and its Creator. The main symbol in The Tyger is the tiger itself. The tiger is formed on a number of ideas, which is the eye of man and God, but it is also a sign of the very same eye, which created it. The word fire is used to exemplify the aggressive character of the tiger, Burnt the fire of thine eyes? (6). The fire can be used to describe the way the tiger sees and is seen by other people. When a person sees or comes into contact with a tiger, the person gets tense right away because we know that one false move and the tiger may attack. This example shows how vicious and hostile the tiger can be just as a hurricane. The Creator could also be described as a hostile person also. This might be a depiction of himself. The sign of fire is leading in the structure of the poem. To know the foundation of the fire is to know the source of the Creator. He relates the tiger s environment to one during the Industrial Revolution when he says, What the hammer? What the chain? / In what furnace was thy brain? (13 14). This tells ... • 9. Negative Effects Of Television Violence On Society Television Violence Television violence has a negative effect on society. Violence is everywhere on television. A question people ask often does violence on television has negative influence on society. Majority of people believe that violence on television does have negative influences on society. Television violence has a negative effect on society because it can influence to become violent and take drugs in the future. Scientist has also tested and proven that television violence has negative influence on society. Television has many shows with violence with it like Power ranger, Criminal Mind, and The Walking Dead. In the show The Walking Dead is a show where a group of people try to survive in a zombie apocalypse and have to use guns to shoot down the zombies. A child mind is easily molded easily, so when a child sees violence on a television show they can learn to do violent actions in the future. An example of this is when a child watches a show with a lot of fighting in it. Shows with a lot of fighting in it are Power rangers and The kids next store. Most children mimic what happens on television and start learning violent actions. This can lead to the child to think that violence is tolerable and start to do more violence actions in the future. Later when they become adult they are more likely to use violence to solve their problems. An example of this happening is when an adult is teased and start a fight with someone. Not all shows have violence in them, Dora the explora and Curious George are shows that are educational. • 10. Persuasive Essay On Music Education Music Education Despite the vast number of children who learn musical instruments, many people still do not fully understand all the benefits of music education. When budget cuts and low funding threaten course elimination, music is often one of the first to go. This should not be the case, however, because learning to play an instrument can build self esteem, increase various social and academic skills and can help them become a well rounded person (Montgomery). Music education is incredibly valuable, especially for children. The benefits that children can gain from learning music will make lasting impacts on them. Playing musical instruments has copious benefits on a child s intellect, and social skills, and personal growth. Learning music has incredible benefits on children s cognitive development and intelligence. Children gain many skills through music, and a child learning about music has to tap into multiple skill sets, often simultaneously (Brown). Learning music substantially helps children grow in other areas of learning. In a study by E. Glenn Schellenberg, six year olds were given voice and piano lessons and their IQ s were compared to six year olds without music lessons. At the end of the experiment, ...the children who were given music lessons over the school year tested on average three IQ points higher than the other groups (Brown). When children are involved in music, they are increasing their intellectual capacity. The ability to play or sing music can help children in math, english, and and problem solving. There have been countless studies and research that show higher test scores and grades in musical students when compared to non musical students. In fact, a research team exploring the link between music and intelligence reported that music training is far superior to computer instruction in dramatically enhancing children s abstract reasoning skills, the skills necessary for learning math and science (Shankar Mahadevan Academy). Music is an artistic area of study, but clearly has a strong impact on important core subjects for students. Through understanding rhythm and scales, as well as beats per measure, children can learn about fractions and other math skills. Reading the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Chaos And Chaos In Oedipus Chaos is an ubiquitous force in nature that can found anywhere and at anytime. A little chaos is the key to keeping society together, but an excessive amount is detrimental to humanity and the ways of the world. Oedipus Rex by Sophocles and Oedipus Out of Joint by Jean Pierre Vernant help us understand Oedipus s downfall and the devious role chaos plays in the whole affair. Attempting to fight for order in the battle against chaos for authority, his actions serve as an expedient for the pandemonium that develops in his life meanwhile entrapping himself in an inescapable entanglement that he inadvertently inflicts upon himself. Chaos has the uncanny ability of slipping through the cracks of a city s firm foundation and poisoning the area. Disguised as a hero, Oedipus is welcomed as the king of Thebes and is endlessly praised for his gallantry and wisdom. Citizens view him as the savior who rescued them from the Sphinx s wrath, but unbeknownst to them and even Oedipus himself, he is the very pollution who causes all the ongoing chaos in the city. He vows to expose and penalize the murderer for the unjustified act of regicide to appease Apollo and lift the plague, yet when Teiresias accuses him of being the contamination, he repudiates the charge and blames Creon instead of accepting responsibility. His wisdom fails him even with evidence staring him in the face, and hubris blinds him to the painful truth that he killed his own blood. By slaughtering his father, he takes Laius s identity and transfers into the stage of an old man: But the moment he slips into old age... he becomes at best a man of words and of wise counsel, and at worst a pitiable wreck (Vernant, 167). Once Oedipus is unmasked as the perpetrator, they pity the broken man he becomes, but are disgusted by his vileness, and exile him to a lifetime of suffering protecting themselves from the fury of Apollo that Oedipus imposes upon them. Just as chaos can unconsciously invade a city, it can seep into the mind, the fragile thing. Quick to anger, Oedipus s actions only manages to provoke resentment he will learn to regret later on. Wells The 19th century was a transformative one in human history, resulting in changes of globalization through colonialism, numerous scientific achievements which led to industrialization, and an emergence of new philosophical thoughts which placed emphasis on human nature. The War of the Worlds, by H. G. Wells, was a reflection of its time, and it shows the idea of imperialism at the time by exploring how the differences between Martians and humans causes a moral disconnect which was an allegory to express the British lack of empathy toward their colonies, how radical ideologies took advantage of that disconnect for their own profit, and why imperialism is morally hypocritical. Martins were able to fight humans so successfully because of their advanced technology. The Martian cavalry units were composed of many monstrous tripod[s], higher than many houses, striding over the young pine trees, and smashing them aside in its career. Furthermore, one of the ways the author believes the Martians can kill effectively is through the use of heat rays, which causes whatever is combustible flashes into flame at its touch, lead runs like water, it softens iron, cracks and melts glass [sic]. • 17. Poetry Analysis Of Sonnet 18 By William Shakespeare Poetry Analysis Sonnet 18 Poetry is a form of literature that uses powerful aesthetic and rhythmic qualities of language, such as phonaesthetics, sound symbolism, and metre, to evoke meanings in addition to, or instead of, the prosaic ostensible meaning. It can be used to describe a person or tell a random, captivating story. Love poetry has been used since the beginning of writing to express feelings and thoughts; usually about another person. Love poetry is said to have a huge effect, and connection, to the way gender and its roles are portrayed. This is not always the case, as Love is limitless and not confined to definitive boundaries. William Shakespeare definitely supported this theory as no one can ever be certain who he is talking about in his sonnets. He talks about love for people, or a person, and not for a gender.is one of the most famous poets, and is most well known for his love poems and plays. Shakespeare s sonnet 18 focuses on the loveliness of a friend or lover. The speaker is initially asked a rhetorical question comparing them to a summer s day. Shakespeare then goes on to introduce the pros and cons of the weather; from a perfect English summer s day, to a less welcoming dimmed sun and rough winds. In the end, however, it is the riveting poetry that will keep the burning love alive, defying even death. William Shakespeare s sonnets are known around the world, and are studied by most students. There is also the factor of it being a very difficult task to address the problem of racial profiling in the criminal justice system because small scale legal reforms do not seem to be making an impact, and large scale legal reforms are very difficult to foster. These factors are extremely essential to consider as the only way to determine the best course of action to avoid a system such as racial profiling, is by acknowledging and deconstructing the very structures that keep the practice in place in the first place. It is especially important to consider legal and social factors as these factors would be so ingrained into our society and the comfort of our everyday lives that many would not bother to give a second thought on the discussion. Educational psychology is the study of how humans learn and retain knowledge, primarily in educational settings like classrooms. This branch not only involves just the learning process of early childhood and adolescence but it also involves the social, emotional, and cognitive learning processes that are involved in humans throughout their entire lifespan. Educational psychology combines numerous amounts of other branches of psychology, including: developmental psychology, behavioral psychology, and cognitive psychology. Educational psychology is an approximately new subfield that has had a huge amount of growth in recent years. The four major perspectives in educational psychology are: Behavioral perspective, developmental perspective, cognitive perspective, and the constructivist approach. The behavioral perspective proposes that all behaviors are learned through conditioning. An example of this would be a teacher handing out tickets for participating in class or good behavior that can later be exchanged for candy or toys. The developmental perspective suggest how children obtain new skills and knowledge as they develop. An example of this is Jean Piaget s distinguished stages of cognitive development. The cognitive perspective has become much more acclaimed in recent decades, mostly because it suggest how things such as memories, emotions, motivations, and beliefs influence ... Shaw, B.S. and Shaw, I. were interested in determining whether resistance training would alter the VO2 max levels of individuals, reducing the risks for coronary artery disease (CAD). No Left Hand Rule In Guatemalan Essay I m from Senegal, a country in West Africa, located in the westernmost point of the continent, and as we may know, Africa is a land of culture and diversity. Essay on The Hard-Boiled Detective The movie The Maltese Falcon is about a private investigator who is striving to unravel the mystery surrounding a black enamelled bird known as the Maltese Falcon. Samuel Spade, the protagonist of the story, is what was known as a hard boiled detective. Men such as that rarely show a tender side (if they have one). Likewise, they are physically tough, frequently resorting to guns or fists to get what they want. In addition, they tend to be amoral, yet with an inflexible code of honour of their own. When Cairo comes to his office the first time, he pulls a gun on Sam. Spade then disarms him and knocks him out in order to search him. Later on, in his apartment, he slaps Cairo when he refuses to cooperate. Finally, he disarms Wilmer in the hotel just to show that he has control. Like most of the hard boiled detectives of this era, Spade uses aggression to fulfill his goals. The third attribute of the hard boiled detective is that they are often amoral. Sam Spade certainly fits this criteria. To begin, we find out that he is having an affair with his partner s, Miles Archer, wife. That, however, is just the beginning. After Miles dies Spade wants nothing more to do with Mrs. Archer and continually pushes her away. He shows no loyalty to anyone other than himself. He is not upset at his partner s death. Instead, he treats it like any other murder case. He acts with coldness towards other people and does what helps him instead of applying to the moral code that most people use. Finally, the hard boiled detectives of this era also had an inflexible code of honour themselves. Sam Spade, though often insensitive and selfish, does have honour. First of all he give the police the money he takes from Gutman as a bribe to use as evidence against the four criminals. Secondly, he turns Brigit in. This is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, the goal of the speaker in this speech actually points towards his desire to gain power, which he will then abuse as it is written in the name, The Great Dictators Speech.
