Cross infection
 A cross infection is the transfer of infection from one person
to another person.
 Can occur between person or piece of equipment, causing
complication.
Nosocomial infection- Also known as hospital acquired
infection or hospital associated infection.
 Infection that are not present in the patient at the time of
admission to hospital but develop during the course of the
stay in hospital.
 There are two forms-
 The causative agent present in the patients at the time of
admission to the hospital but there are no sign of the
infection.
2-Cross contamination followed by cross infection-
 Occur during staying in the hospital, when the patient come
in the contact of new causative agent becomes infected.
 There is no clinically significant difference between the
endogenous self infection and exogenous cross infection.
 1-Air born
 2-Vector born
 3-Direct contact
 4-Indirect contact
 5-During general care/medical treatment
 Bacteria
 Viruses
 Fungi
 Parasites
 Fever
 Body ache
 Nausea & vomiting
 Low BP
 Weakness
 Diarrhea
 Sepsis
 Pneumonia
 Meningitis
 Dehydration
 MOF
 Death
 Best treated at source.
 Aseptic technique is a common method used
to sterilize equipment.
 Follow universal precaution.
 Cleaning.
 Sterilization.
 Disinfection
 Hand washing
 Gloves
 Mask, eye protection
 Gown
 Patient care equipment
 Environmental control
 Occupational health & blood born pathogens
 Place of care of the patients
 Physical examination (history).
 Blood test( CBC, RFT, LFT,Viral marker)
 Blood culture
 Urine culture/urine RM
 X-ray examination
 Treatment of the cause.
 Antibiotic
 Antipyretic
 Analgesic
