Colorism-Skin Tone Discrimination In The Makeup Industry...
For decades, makeup companies have treated foundation shades like a high end, exclusive VIP club
that women of color cannot get into. Representation in the beauty industry is a continued issue that no
makeup company can seem to get right. While the spectrum of foundation shades have widen, the
makeup counter has not changed much. There is a major misunderstanding between makeup industries
and women of color. This is a result of the lack of understanding of the needs of the diverse consumer.
There is an absence of knowledge and empathy for others that are not white. When we consider these
factors we have to think about the creators of these products. Often times they do not look like us, so
how can we expect for them to meet our needs. This form of discrimination can place a direct
discouragement on women of color s self esteem. This exclusion in an attempt to purchase foundation
for their skin tone is what race relation s specialist, Nadra Kareem Nittle calls colorism. In her article
What Is Colorism Skin Tone Discrimination in America, she describes colorism as the disadvantage
dark skinned people face, while privileging those with lighter skin. Colorism is rooted in slavery, as
slave owners typically gave preferential treatment to slaves with fairer skin complexions, while dark
skinned slaves faced harsher mistreatment out in the fields. Makeup companies favor their white
counterparts, often only providing a few shades that do not meet the needs of women of color.

Ode To Enchanted Light Mood
Poetry Analysis for Ode to Enchanted Light and Sleeping in the Forest Those who dwell... among the
beauties and mysteries of the earth are never alone or weary of life (Rachel Carson). Rachel Carson s
quote reveals to us that nature is beautiful, powerful, mysterious, and extraordinary. This is expressed
in the poems Ode to Enchanted Light and Sleeping in the Forest. The poem Ode to Enchanted Light
by Pablo Neruda and the poem Sleeping the Forest both contain a mood, a tone, figurative language, a
certain structure, and a theme. Both poems have those elements, however, Mary Oliver and Pablo
Neruda use the elements differently in their literature. Therefore, both poets use multiple elements in
their poems in similar and different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pablo Neruda praises light at the beginning of the poem twice with figurative language. He states
Light like a green latticework of branches and Drifting down like clean white sand. By stating this,
Neruda is telling us that light is beautiful and pure. So the theme of this ode is that light should be
praised, is beautiful, and is important. In the same way, Mary Oliver uses figurative language
throughout the poem to convey the theme of her poem. Mary Oliver states I thought the earth
remembered me, she took me back so tenderly. Oliver is trying to convey the idea of mother nature
taking her kindly and gently. Another piece of figurative language in Sleeping in the Forest that
reveals the poem s theme is By morning I had vanished at least at least a dozen times into something
better. This hyperbold reveals to us that Oliver s mind went to a better place while she was in nature,
meaning that nature is relieving a stress free. Therefore, the theme of Sleeping in the Forest is that
nature is a better place to be in and nature is peaceful. The themes of Ode to Enchanted Light and
Sleeping in the Forest are both about the beauties of nature, however, one is about sleeping and
darkness while the other one is about light. These themes tell reader that the poets have a positive and
loving perspective towards nature.

The flood of 1997 started with a wetter the normal fall then ground froze early that year which made it
easier to freeze all the liquid. When all the snow melted the water was released onto the surface and it
made it easy for the flood to happen. When the climate changed is when all the flooding occurred.
After the red river along the north dakota and minnesota was flooded it started to flood more often and

The Exploration Of Human Memory Essay
The exploration of human memory will unlock the past and future. Through the exploitation of human
memory man condemn itself to an apocalyptic world. The manipulation of the human memory is key
to man s control over the human mind. Memory can divide what humans see and what humans can
remember. Some memories may be deceitful, but it all depends on the state of mind and past
experiences of that individual. Memory isn t just a personal experience that s based only on that
person, an event can change people physically and mentally. Memory is based off of multiple factors
that occur in the brain. It s a deep subject that both neuropsychologist and psychologist have tried to
completely understand in the past decade. Author Carl Gunther said that Underneath the mind s
perceptual process is the mysterious mechanics of memory (Gunther 87). In hopes of a new future
where memory isn t so mysterious. Humans are digging deeper in the unknown such as neuroscientist
Bence Olveczky of the Harvard University in Cambridge Massachusetts. To explain how Olveczky
would discover a possible breakthrough in manipulating the human mind would take time. To grasp
the concept of manipulating memory one would have to know the history and meaning of memory.
Humans consider memory as the ability to remember things, true, but is also the ability to Encode,
store, retain and subsequently recall information and past experiences in the human brain (Mastin The
Human Memory ). Learning is

The Theoretical Construct Of Self Regulation
soundness of transferring the theoretical construct of self regulation from educational psychology to
the area of second language acquisition. A number of studies on self regulation in language learning
have been carried out in Western contexts (Mezei, 2008). Drawing upon the social cognitive and
sociocultural perspectives of self regulation, Wang, Quach, and Rolston (2009) investigated the
development of four male Chinese English language learners use of self regulated learning strategies.
Their case study participants were students at an elementary school in the United States. The focus of
this qualitative study was on how SRL strategies were learned and used across home based and school
based contexts by the learners. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
university. The findings showed that contextual factors such as learners self beliefs and social support
had an influence on the self regulatory strategies they used. Bown highlighted that in the context of
individualized instruction, the most important self regulatory strategy the learners must employ is
structuring the learning environment to meet their language learning needs. Due to the isolation felt by
the learners in this self instructed language learning context, they needed to deal with negative
emotions like avoidance with positive self talk. Self regulation and motivation of adult language
learners of different proficiency levels in English language learning was investigated in Mezei s
(2008) classroom based study. The case study findings showed that a learner within the upper
intermediate level is more conscious of her language learning processes and more competent in
regulating her language learning than the pre intermediate learner. She self initiated her learning
process by using effective learning strategies to achieve her intrinsic language learning goal. The
learner with a higher proficiency level practiced self reflection, and thus was more aware of her
language strengths and specific areas to improve. However, this

Middle Passage By Charles Johnson
The book Middle Passage by Charles Johnson tells a story about the triangular slave trade which took
place early in America s history. This book was written with such close attention to detail that it gave
the reader a sense of what life was like on board a slave boat. Johnson s writing style included many
different techniques including the use of varying structure, imagery and language. All of these devices
helped create a very successful story about slavery.
This book tells the story about Rutherford Calhoun. He is a newly freed slave and finds himself in
New Orleans. This is where he meets Isadora, a sweet and loving school teacher. She soon falls in love
with him and wants to help him. She talks about marrying him and it scares him. He tells her that he
will never get married. Rutherford meets Squib at a bar and learns that he is a cook on board a slave
boat. He gets on board and they allow him to stay. The rest of the book tells the story of what it was
like on board. The boat carries 40 Allmuseri tribes people from Africa who are treated poorly. Their
culture is taken from them along with everything else. The slaves plan a revolt against the captain, and
they gain control of the boat. Bad weather, destroyed the boat and everyone is thrown into the ocean.
Rutherford and a few others are rescued by another ship. He soon find out the Isadora is on board.
Because of his long journey at sea, he is a changed man. Isadora and Rutherford get back together, and

Object Relations Theory Is A Psychodynamic Theory
Object Relations Theory Object relations theory is a psychodynamic theory that observes our
capability to form long lasting attachments, and is based on our early experiences of disconnection
from and connections with out primary caregivers. We internalize our initial relationship examples,
which means that our first relationships make lasting impressions on us, determining how we
approach future relationships. Also, object relations theory studies how people form various attitudes
towards others and how those attitudes affect their view of themselves as well as social relationships.
There is a central notion of object relation s theory, which is that all people naturally search for
relationships with others, what this theory looks at is how well an individual can form the
interpersonal relationship and what, if any, deficiencies in social functioning may have occurred. For
social workers, this theory is helpful in seeing an individual in the framework of the relationship rather
than an individual being. According to object relations theory, the ultimate situation is to be raised by
caregivers who in turn help us to progressively and appropriately move away from their physical and
emotional direct care while they continue to convey their availability for support (Hutchison, 2013).
These early associations are a major determinant of our personalities and the quality of our
interpersonal performance (Hutchison, 2013; Dorfman, Meyer, Morgan, 1998). Essentially, an

Why Is Gladiator Considered A Good Person
Society always judges people on their actions, thinking about how moral or immoral. In the movie
Gladiator by Ridley Scott, they explore the wrongs of man. The protagonist, Maximus Decimus
Meridius is portrayed as a good person because of his honorability. On the other hand, Commodus is
portrayed as bad or evil because of the way he treats the good person. While stories usually have good
and bad characters, there s a sign on how we know which one is bad and which one isn t. People
usually get attracted to the protagonist rather than the antagonist. In Gladiator, Meridius is shown as a
good person because of his honorability and pride. Three weeks from now, I will be harvesting my
crops. Imagine where you will be, and it will be so. Hold the line! Stay with me! If you find yourself

Commodus, the antagonist from Gladiator, is considered a bad person because of the way he treats
other characters. If you re very good, tomorrow night I ll tell you the story of emperor Claudius who
was betrayed by those closest to him, by his own blood. They whispered in dark corners and went out
late at night and conspired and conspired but the emperor Claudius knew they were up to something.
He knew they were busy little bees. And one night he sat down with one of them and he looked at her
and he said, Tell me what you ve been doing busy little bee or I shall strike down those dearest to you.
You shall watch as I bathe in their blood. And the emperor was heartbroken. The little bee had
wounded him more deeply than anyone else could ever have done. This quote, said by Commodus, is

wants to tell his sister that if she doesn t tell him everything, he will murder his nephew, hence the
audience knowing he s a bad/evil

Pyrenean Ibex were wild goats that lived in the mountainous regions of Europe, north central Asia,
and northern Africa. According to the Integrated Taxonomic Information System, there are five
species of Ibex (Bradford, 2014). These species were one of the two subspecies of Spanish Ibex that
went extinct. The scientific name of Pyrenean Ibex is Capra pyrenaica pyrenaica. Male and Female
Ibex could be distinguished due to fur color and horn differences. Males were greyish brown with
black spots on the forelegs in summer and they were dull grey with faded spots in winter. On the other
hand, female ibex had brown fur color. The Pyrenean Ibex had fur that grew longer and thicker in

They lived on rocky mountainsides and cliffs. Their habitats were also known as Boreal Biomes. The
Pyrenean Ibex were herbivores. They only ate vegetation such as shrubs, bushes, and grasses. This is
the reason for its habitat being in the mountains because there was plenty of vegetation there. Ibex
made their homes on cliffs that would be dangerous for predators. The Pyrenean Ibex was most
commonly eaten by Wolves, Foxes, Snow Leopards, lynx, and bears. Ibexes were very social and
lived in groups called herds. The herds were segregated by gender. The males had a separate herd and
the male herd was called the bachelor herd. The female and offspring had separate herd and it
consisted of 10 to 20 members (Bradford, 2014). They would only meet during the breeding season.
The male Ibex used scent to communicate with a potential mate during breeding season. Breeding
season for Ibex is called a rut. They were very nimble and could jump more than 6 feet straight

Attachment, Antisocial, And Antisocial Behavior
Attachment and Antisocial Behavior in Adolescents Secure early infant attachments are imperative to
a person s life because it assists in the development of empathy and emotional self regulation. A
healthy development of empathy and emotional self regulation promotes prosocial behavior. Prosocial
behavior is the deliberate action of helping and/or benefiting another person, group, or society in
general without any thought of being rewarded. Securing an early infant attachment can develop an
automatic response of prosocial behavior which can be applied throughout an individual s life as he or
she responds to immediate situations that may occur throughout a lifetime. Anti social behavior is
developed when a person lacks the ability to help someone because he or she fails to identify with the
feelings or difficulties of someone else (Steele, Bate, Nikitiades, Buhl Nielsen, 2015). Adolescents
that display anti social behavior are more likely to develop poor peer competence, have lower
academic performance, become involved in adulthood criminality and are at a higher risk of
developing adult mental health problems. Anti social behavior in adolescents is expressed by the
inability to respect the rights of others which leads to the violation of societal social norms. Some
behavior, such as being disobedience or defiant, can be considered as normal behavior in adolescents,
however it can also be a strong predictor of adjustment difficulties adolescents may face in their

Comparing Sherlock Holmes And The 2009 Film
There are many similarities and differences between the literary version of Sherlock Holmes and the
film version of him. There have been several different interpretations of Sherlock Holmes in film,
however arguably the most well known movie version is the 2009 film. While the 2009 movie does an
alright job of adapting Arthur Conan Doyle s formula to the big screen, it fails to fully realize the
character of Sherlock Holmes and the many mystery stories he has been in. First, Arthur Conan Doyle
s version of Sherlock Holmes differs from the 2009 film version of Sherlock Holmes by not having a
narrator. One of the largest staples of Doyle s stories was the fact that Dr. Watson was narrating every

Arthur Conan Doyle wrote many Sherlock Holmes stories and did so over the course of many years. A
large majority of these stories were smaller in scope and focused on a mystery that only pertained to a
small area of London, while the 2009 film focuses on a mystery that poses a threat to all of London
(IMDb). This immediately shifts the tone of the story to something much darker than usual and could
be off putting to potential new fans. While a large scale threat makes for a much more exciting movie,
it does not encompass what originally made Arthur Conan Doyle s stories so engaging. His stories
were popular because they offered close up views and intimate experiences with mysteries that were
believable to the common reader, while the 2009 movie aims to be a Hollywood blockbuster

Doritos Vs Oreos Essay
My hypothesis was proven correct. The Oreos had the highest volume of fat extracted. The potato
chips had the second most amount of fat, and the Doritos had the least amount. The extracted fats
from the potato chips and Doritos had liquid, translucent fats, whereas the fat from the Oreos was
more opaque and solid. Also, the extracted fat from the Oreos was the only kind that retained an
obvious smell. The other two had a much lighter scent. My experiment turned out the way it did,
because the Oreos had the greatest amount of fat extracted. Oreos seemed more fattening than the
other foods, so it seemed like it would also contain the most fat. I expected the Doritos to contain
more fat than they did, because they have flavors on them

Examples Of Sanitize In Spotlight
In Spotlight, the filmmakers include a scene where one of the Boston Globe reporters, Sacha Pfeiffer,
is interviewing Joe, one of the survivors. Joe tells Sacha about his first visit to Father Shanley s house,
and how Father Shanley the two play strip poker. Joe says, Of course I lost. And things went on from
there. Sacha asks, What happened specifically? and Joe replies Specifically, he molested me. Sacha
continues, and says, Joe, I think the language here is going to be very important. We can t sanitize this,
just saying molest isn t enough. People need to know what actually happened. I will consider the word

This definition is, to render more acceptable, clean up, as by the removal of undesirable, improper or

especially fitting. Sacha and the Spotlight team have been fighting to expose confidential materials,

Internal Medicine Rotation
Shortly into my Internal Medicine rotation, I was discouraged. Though my residents and attendings
continuously taught me, and the patients were grateful for our care, my discouragement stemmed from
a personal goal: to influence medical management. My goal was to diagnose a DVT before an
attending or suggest drug combinations before my resident. With this goal in mind, my day ended with
me feeling exhausted, full of new information, and dissatisfied. However, when I noticed that my
patients were often confused about their care and were uncertain which of the white coat wearers
would answer their questions, my goal changed. I was going to help patients understand their illnesses

comorbidities throughout their hospital admission. Over my Internal Medicine rotations,
I improved my clinical thought process, which enabled me to better care for my future patients.
Although Internal Medicine has taught me the importance of clinical decision making by physicians,
my academic interests lie with how patients themselves make decisions that affect their body for the

Diction In Those Winter Sundays, By Robert Hayden
Its dreadful what little things lead people to misunderstand each other. Those Winter Sundays is a
poem written by Robert Hayden in 1962.In the poem, the speaker is remembering his past experiences
with this father. It describes the usual ways sundays were for the speaker. In the poem, it shows the
broken relationship between the speaker and the father, through the diction and the way the poem is
written. The way Robert Hayden wrote this poem, perfectly describes a broken family without saying
it directly, but through the way the poem is formatted. In the poem Those Winter Sundays ,Robert
Hayden exposese the ignorance that results in a broken relationship between the father and child,
through grim diction, apologetic tone, conflicting imagery. The use of grim diction throughout the
poem reveals the negative relationship between the father and child just by the words the author
choose. In the poem when the father is getting ready, Hayden describes the environment in the house
as Blueblack Cold (Hayden 2). In this part of the poem the father is getting up to warm the house,
because of the time period this poem takes place in.If the author was only describing the temperature
of the room he problem would said it straight forwards, since this is not the case it is obvious that
Hayden is not describing the temperature of the house . By using Blueblack to describe the cold, it
gives a powerful adjective describing the cold. When we think of the world blueblack we tend to think
of the skin color of a person who has been in the snow for a long time ,so blueblack describe an
extreme cold. Cold has a negative connotation in many poems, in this case the cold is the relationship
between father and child.By using Blueblack cold as the adjective for cold is makes the reader assume
that their relationship between father and child is extremely bad.The speaker describes the place that
he is raised in as that house (9).If this was a short story and not a poem that phrase would have been
glanced over without a second thought, but since this is a poem that is not the case. The way the
speaker describes the place he lived in by the word choose alone, reveals a lot about the father and
child relationship. By using the word that ,

Analysis Of RIDE By Eric Lane
On November 18, 2017, I saw the Richland College Theatre Department s production of RIDE by Eric
Lane. In this essay, I will express what we re the exceptional things that I saw. Also, I will use terms
from what I learned from class, to explain some factors that I interpreted from the play. Starting off, I
love this play, it was hilarious but serious at the same time, it had this dark twist and I believe it was
tragic comedy, it had the whole audience captivated and I felt like the message of the play was meet
with everyone in the room. There was moments that happen throughout the play that explain those
dark twisted moments that made people laugh but didn t realize the deeper meaning to it: Sam, is
Carrie little sister and she has so much energy, and when Carrie and Molly fight and they start yelling

Symbols In A Clockwork Orange
Code and Cinematic Signs of A Clockwork Orange
Stanley Kubrick is famous for his dark humor movies. He used a lot of codes and signs to express his
stylish aesthetic violence and sexual implications in his movies. A Clockwork Orange can be
considered as one of the best among them.
In the opening milk bar scene with the mannequins, the bar is full of sexual imagery. The film
continues this motif throughout, combining sex with violence as the social norm. Alex s parents are
completely docile and impotent, having no idea of the actual state of world affairs. Strangely, Alex has
an affinity for Beethoven, which often plays ever scenes of violence on sex, including rape scenes.
The main character Alex is a good way to start. In the film, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Here Kubrick and the original novel are at complete odds. Deltoid s dialogue, faithful to the book,
depicts Alex as being an inherently evil boy from a good home with good, loving parents . Kubrick s
visual direction appropriately reverses this misguided concept to show that abuse during childhood,
especially that originating in the home, is what leads human beings to abuse others later in life.
In the film, there are a lot of pyramid like shot compositions, Kubrick has frequently placed artificial
light sources at the apex and the number of light sources in these shots sometimes parallels the number
of people coming from an apex to inflict violence.
When Alex and his friends break into the writer s house, it is obvious that there are four unusual light
sources in the house, being put side by side. Each of them has a huge illuminated globe on a stand. In
the same house, but nearly at the end of the film, Alex is eating a meal, the lights (at the same location
as the four unusual light props) behind him gone out. It seems like sunlight comes into the house from
windows off screen, but once the shot is then reversed, audience know that it is artificial light, which
is come from four illuminated globes parallel the number of attackers (and they are behind the

The Global Positioning System (Gps)
Introduction:
The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a satellite based navigation system made up of a network of
24 satellites placed into orbit by the U.S. Department of Defense. GPS was originally intended for
military applications, but in the 1980s, the government made the system available for civilian use.
GPS works in any weather conditions, anywhere in the world, 24 hours a day. There are no
subscription fees or setup charges to use GPS.
The GPS is made up of three parts: satellites orbiting the Earth; control and monitoring stations on
Earth; and the GPS receivers owned by users. GPS satellites broadcast signals from space that are
picked up and identified by GPS receivers. Each GPS receiver then provides three dimensional ...

Essentially, the GPS receiver compares the time a signal was transmitted by a satellite with the time it
was received. The time difference tells the GPS receiver how far away the satellite is. Now, with
distance measurements from a few more satellites, the receiver can determine the user s position and
display it on the unit s electronic map. Figure: Working module.
A GPS receiver must be locked on to the signal of at least three satellites to calculate a 2D position
(latitude and longitude) and track movement. With four or more satellites in view, the receiver can
determine the user s 3D position (latitude, longitude and altitude). Once the user s position has been
determined, the GPS unit can calculate other information, such as speed, bearing, track, trip distance,
distance to destination, sunrise and sunset time and more.
When people talk about a GPS, they usually mean a GPS receiver. The Global Positioning System
(GPS) is actually a constellation of 27 Earth orbiting satellites (24 in operation and three extras in case
one fails). The U.S. military developed and implemented this satellite network as a military navigation
system, but soon opened it up to everybody else. Figure: NAVSTAR GPS satellite
Each of these 3,000 to 4,000 pound solar powered satellites circles the globe at about 12,000 miles
(19,300 km), making two complete rotations every day. The orbits are arranged so that at

The Freedom Of Freedom
Imagine having the ability to be able to do whatever you please, however you please and whenever
you please. The ability to speak, travel, lead, rebel and countless other actions. This is the core
principle behind freedom. Everyone on Earth has the desire to be free. But what does it mean to truly
be free? Freedom by definition is the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without
hindrance or restraint (Oxford English Dictionary). It s a concept that we have fought for since the
beginning of time, whether it be for ourselves, others or even animals. The U.S as a country, like many
other countries that is completely built upon the convention of freedom. It is so important to us that
freedom is one of the rights listed in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. After centuries or
even millennia of fighting for the basic right of freedom, a sizable portion of the population in first
world countries are proud to say that they re free. But are they really free? Is there a such thing as a
human who is actually free, let alone the average person. Even though we are not literally bound in
chains, there are still shackles that prevent all of us from truly being free.
Throughout the course of history freedom has been a controversial topic in society. There has always
been the question of who deserves freedom, what rights fall under freedom and what freedom is in the
first place. As a construct, freedom has been well ingrained into modern society and most people that

How Does Hitchcock Create Emotional Tension In The Birds
The Birds is considered one of Hitchcock s most memorable films, and is known as a classic horror
film because of the concept of birds randomly attacking people. The film centers on a man and a
woman merging in with his family and only then do the birds start attacking and disrupting their
already tense atmosphere as the feelings between the protagonists Melanie and Mitch begin to
blossom. Hitchcock creates the birds as a metaphor for the emotional turmoil between the couple and
the characters, as it allows them all to develop throughout the film.
Melanie is uncomfortable among Mitch and his family because of her feelings for him. This is further
supported when Melanie s relationship with his mother Lydia becomes strained due to awkward
interactions,

Seated Scribe
Created about four and half thousand years ago the Seated Scribe is one a well conserved ancient
polychrome. This art piece is a great example of a sculpture and design. The Seated Scribe stands 1 9

same color skirt as the papyrus roll. All this is while sitting cross legged on what appears to be a flat

Similarities Between Casey And Goliath
In the poem Casey at Bat and story David and Goliath, a comparison of David and Casey shows
differences and similarities. One of the similarities is that they both faced giants. David faced the
literal giant Goliath. A verse in the Bible says The Philistine army had a hero named Goliath who was
from the town of Gath and was over nine feet tall. Casey s giant was him overcoming his ego. An
example of this is, There was pride in Casey s bearing and a smile on Casey s face. Another similarity
is that they had a goal in mind the entire time. David s goal was to defeat Goliath and bring glory to
God. On the other hand Casey s goal was to win the baseball game. Some examples of this are, You ve

A Modest Proposal For Making Driving More Entertaining, While Creating The Same Risks For

It was suggested to me that we ...kill all [the] dumbasses [who choose to drink and drive], but I felt
this too harsh (Holzbach). Why not let them kill themselves? The nation, as a whole, would be more
pleasant, happier and more carefree.
It is a melancholy object to those who often frequent the bars in this great country to see those who do
not currently share in their fortunate state of being. They are usually alone, observing those around

As to my own part, having turned my thoughts for many years, upon this important subject, and
maturely weighed the several schemes of our projectors, I have always found them grossly mistaken
in their computation. It is true. There are not enough drivers who drive under the influence. In the year
2001, MADD Online approximated that only one in ten drivers, a mere 25 million, drove drunk, and,
consequently these drivers were the ones significantly more likely to be involved in a crash of some
sort, but why shouldn t we level the playing field? (1)
There is likewise another great advantage in my scheme, that it will obliterate the need for expensive
car insurance plans. Those plans steal from us our hard earned money and will no longer be necessary
if we all are at equal risk for damage, risk, and liability.
The number of souls in this country is currently reckoned at just under three hundred million
(American FactFinder 1). Of these are calculated to be approximately two hundred million licensed
drivers (Licensed Drivers Our Nation s Highways 2000 1); from which number I subtract twenty five
million who already drive while intoxicated (MADD Online 1). This being granted, there remains one
hundred seventy five million drivers who do not currently drive while intoxicated. There remains
approximately one hundred seventy five million drivers, their families, friends, and peers who will be

Cirque du Soleil ( Circus of the Sun ) is a Canadian entertainment company, self described as a
dramatic mix of circus arts and street entertainment. Based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and located

performers, Guy Laliberté and Gilles Ste Croix.

Is there a space for IT in artistic organization such as Cirque du Soleil?
At Cirque du Soleil, a touring show is a very complex matter. A tour can be treated as a little village of
about 150 people, and it needs the best technology to meet their needs which can range from basic
bandwidth requirements to ticket sales, payroll and phone systems. And as this is a village that moves
every six or seven weeks, which means that it has to be constantly torn down and set up again.
Everything has to be precise and methodical. For every tour, they have to tear down a big top that
seats 2,500 and 55 trailer loads of equipment have to be hauled rom place to place. And everything has
to be in working order within 30 hours. At Cirque du Soleil, casting is a key process. Castings talent
scouts are always on the move, travelling to the ends of the earth. The casting director maintains a
pool of artists for the eight shows and recruit artists for new shows. Once a performer is hired, he or
she has to go through a series of steps before actually participating in a show. One of those steps is the
make up lessons that ensure that performers can apply their own make up for the various roles they
play in a given show. Initially, make up for each part of every show was documented with 35 mm

The Tennessee Code Annotated Bibliography
The issue in this case is whether under Tennessee Code Annotated § 44 8 413, our client, Kevin Gates,
can be held responsible for his neighbor s dog bite injuries, depending on his knowledge of the
potentially dangerous propensities of his three dogs.
The Tennessee Code Annotated discusses civil liability to an injury caused by dogs in § 44 8 413. This
statute begins with defining a dog owner s duty by claiming that the owner of a dog has a duty to keep
that dog under reasonable control at all times, and to keep that dog from running at large. Tenn. Code
Ann. § 44 8 413(a)(1) (2007 Supp. 2016). An owner is a person that at the time the incident occurs, is

App. LEXIS 955, at *10 (citing 4 Am. Jur. 2d Animals § 69 (2015)). If the owner is not aware and
does not have any reason to know that his dog has any dangerous propensities, then the owner will
likely not be liable for the first mischief that occurs. Hood v. Waldrum, 434 S.W.2d 94, 99 (Tenn. Ct.
App. 1968). For example, in Moore v. Gaut, James Moore, the complainant had to prove that Michael
Gaut, the owner of the dog involved, knew or should have known that his dog had dangerous
propensities, making him liable for the dog bite injury. The evidence provided to the court never
showed any record that the dog had ever engaged in behavior that could have been viewed as
dangerous behavior. Moore, 2015 Tenn. App. LEXIS 955, at *5. The Court of Appeals agreed with the
trial court that Gaut negated the third element for dog bite liability when he testified that his dog never
bit or attacked anyone before Plaintiff. Id. at *13. Gaut genuinely believed his dog was friendly,
gentle, and jovial before the bite occurred. Id. at *14. Since Gaut was unaware of any dangerous
propensities, he was found not liable for the dog bite to Moore. Id. at *15.
Despite Mr. Gates outward dislike towards his three dogs, it is likely that he will not be held
responsible for the dog bite injury his neighbor suffered because he did not have any knowledge, nor
had any reason to know of his dogs having any dangerous propensities. In this case, the injured
neighbor wants Gates

1. How has the property tax changed over time for local governments? What are the advantages and
disadvantages of the property tax as a revenue source? In response to these questions, make sure to
refer to the main principles of taxation (equity, efficiency, adequacy of revenue, political feasibility,
and cost of administration), tax and expenditure limitations, as well as the importance of revenue
diversification for local government.
Historically, property taxes have been the primary source of the local government s income. In fact,
approximately 70% of the local governments revenue stems from property taxes (Lee, Johnson, and

This could lead to that individual moving to another location, also known as gentrification. Political
feasibility is high since it has historically been a consistent source of revenue. Cost of administration
would be relatively low since property taxes, in terms of keeping track of properties, is relatively easy
because of its tangibility and lack of mobility.
With respect to revenue diversification, local governments have attempted to diversify their sources of
revenue by implementing one or a combination of these taxes: sales taxes, income taxes, game of
chance taxes (gambling, races, lotter, and their derivatives), user charge taxes, and sumptuary taxes
(cigarettes, alcohol, and their derivatives) (Lee, Johnson, and Joyce, 2013). In circumstances that
affect the primary source of revenue, having access to other sources may serve as a buffer for the local
government. However, the problems with these sorts of taxes is uncertainty. Property tax, as stated
earlier is the most reliable while income or sales taxes rely on income/ salaried employees and
consumption of products, respectively.
2. Explain the major forecasting methods used by governments to forecast revenues and expenditures.

  • 2. Colorism-Skin Tone Discrimination In The Makeup Industry... For decades, makeup companies have treated foundation shades like a high end, exclusive VIP club that women of color cannot get into. Representation in the beauty industry is a continued issue that no makeup company can seem to get right. While the spectrum of foundation shades have widen, the makeup counter has not changed much. There is a major misunderstanding between makeup industries and women of color. This is a result of the lack of understanding of the needs of the diverse consumer. There is an absence of knowledge and empathy for others that are not white. When we consider these factors we have to think about the creators of these products. Often times they do not look like us, so how can we expect for them to meet our needs. This form of discrimination can place a direct discouragement on women of color s self esteem. This exclusion in an attempt to purchase foundation for their skin tone is what race relation s specialist, Nadra Kareem Nittle calls colorism. In her article What Is Colorism Skin Tone Discrimination in America, she describes colorism as the disadvantage dark skinned people face, while privileging those with lighter skin. Colorism is rooted in slavery, as slave owners typically gave preferential treatment to slaves with fairer skin complexions, while dark skinned slaves faced harsher mistreatment out in the fields. Makeup companies favor their white counterparts, often only providing a few shades that do not meet the needs of women of color. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Ode To Enchanted Light Mood Poetry Analysis for Ode to Enchanted Light and Sleeping in the Forest Those who dwell... among the beauties and mysteries of the earth are never alone or weary of life (Rachel Carson). Rachel Carson s quote reveals to us that nature is beautiful, powerful, mysterious, and extraordinary. This is expressed in the poems Ode to Enchanted Light and Sleeping in the Forest. The poem Ode to Enchanted Light by Pablo Neruda and the poem Sleeping the Forest both contain a mood, a tone, figurative language, a certain structure, and a theme. Both poems have those elements, however, Mary Oliver and Pablo Neruda use the elements differently in their literature. Therefore, both poets use multiple elements in their poems in similar and different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pablo Neruda praises light at the beginning of the poem twice with figurative language. He states Light like a green latticework of branches and Drifting down like clean white sand. By stating this, Neruda is telling us that light is beautiful and pure. So the theme of this ode is that light should be praised, is beautiful, and is important. In the same way, Mary Oliver uses figurative language throughout the poem to convey the theme of her poem. Mary Oliver states I thought the earth remembered me, she took me back so tenderly. Oliver is trying to convey the idea of mother nature taking her kindly and gently. Another piece of figurative language in Sleeping in the Forest that reveals the poem s theme is By morning I had vanished at least at least a dozen times into something better. This hyperbold reveals to us that Oliver s mind went to a better place while she was in nature, meaning that nature is relieving a stress free. Therefore, the theme of Sleeping in the Forest is that nature is a better place to be in and nature is peaceful. The themes of Ode to Enchanted Light and Sleeping in the Forest are both about the beauties of nature, however, one is about sleeping and darkness while the other one is about light. These themes tell reader that the poets have a positive and loving perspective towards nature. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Exploration Of Human Memory Essay The exploration of human memory will unlock the past and future. Through the exploitation of human memory man condemn itself to an apocalyptic world. The manipulation of the human memory is key to man s control over the human mind. Memory can divide what humans see and what humans can remember. Some memories may be deceitful, but it all depends on the state of mind and past experiences of that individual. Memory isn t just a personal experience that s based only on that person, an event can change people physically and mentally. Memory is based off of multiple factors that occur in the brain. It s a deep subject that both neuropsychologist and psychologist have tried to completely understand in the past decade. Author Carl Gunther said that Underneath the mind s perceptual process is the mysterious mechanics of memory (Gunther 87). In hopes of a new future where memory isn t so mysterious. Humans are digging deeper in the unknown such as neuroscientist Bence Olveczky of the Harvard University in Cambridge Massachusetts. To explain how Olveczky would discover a possible breakthrough in manipulating the human mind would take time. To grasp the concept of manipulating memory one would have to know the history and meaning of memory. Humans consider memory as the ability to remember things, true, but is also the ability to Encode, store, retain and subsequently recall information and past experiences in the human brain (Mastin The Human Memory ). A number of studies on self regulation in language learning have been carried out in Western contexts (Mezei, 2008). Drawing upon the social cognitive and sociocultural perspectives of self regulation, Wang, Quach, and Rolston (2009) investigated the development of four male Chinese English language learners use of self regulated learning strategies. The findings showed that contextual factors such as learners self beliefs and social support had an influence on the self regulatory strategies they used. Bown highlighted that in the context of individualized instruction, the most important self regulatory strategy the learners must employ is structuring the learning environment to meet their language learning needs. Due to the isolation felt by the learners in this self instructed language learning context, they needed to deal with negative emotions like avoidance with positive self talk. Self regulation and motivation of adult language learners of different proficiency levels in English language learning was investigated in Mezei s (2008) classroom based study. The case study findings showed that a learner within the upper intermediate level is more conscious of her language learning processes and more competent in regulating her language learning than the pre intermediate learner. She self initiated her learning process by using effective learning strategies to achieve her intrinsic language learning goal. The learner with a higher proficiency level practiced self reflection, and thus was more aware of her language strengths and specific areas to improve. However, this ... This book was written with such close attention to detail that it gave the reader a sense of what life was like on board a slave boat. Johnson s writing style included many different techniques including the use of varying structure, imagery and language. All of these devices helped create a very successful story about slavery. • 10. Object Relations Theory Is A Psychodynamic Theory Object Relations Theory Object relations theory is a psychodynamic theory that observes our capability to form long lasting attachments, and is based on our early experiences of disconnection from and connections with out primary caregivers. We internalize our initial relationship examples, which means that our first relationships make lasting impressions on us, determining how we approach future relationships. Also, object relations theory studies how people form various attitudes towards others and how those attitudes affect their view of themselves as well as social relationships. There is a central notion of object relation s theory, which is that all people naturally search for relationships with others, what this theory looks at is how well an individual can form the interpersonal relationship and what, if any, deficiencies in social functioning may have occurred. For social workers, this theory is helpful in seeing an individual in the framework of the relationship rather than an individual being. According to object relations theory, the ultimate situation is to be raised by caregivers who in turn help us to progressively and appropriately move away from their physical and emotional direct care while they continue to convey their availability for support (Hutchison, 2013). These early associations are a major determinant of our personalities and the quality of our interpersonal performance (Hutchison, 2013; Dorfman, Meyer, Morgan, 1998). Essentially, an ... On the other hand, Commodus is portrayed as bad or evil because of the way he treats the good person. Ibex made their homes on cliffs that would be dangerous for predators. The Pyrenean Ibex was most commonly eaten by Wolves, Foxes, Snow Leopards, lynx, and bears. Ibexes were very social and lived in groups called herds. The herds were segregated by gender. The males had a separate herd and the male herd was called the bachelor herd. The female and offspring had separate herd and it consisted of 10 to 20 members (Bradford, 2014). They would only meet during the breeding season. The male Ibex used scent to communicate with a potential mate during breeding season. Breeding season for Ibex is called a rut. • 14. Attachment, Antisocial, And Antisocial Behavior Attachment and Antisocial Behavior in Adolescents Secure early infant attachments are imperative to a person s life because it assists in the development of empathy and emotional self regulation. A healthy development of empathy and emotional self regulation promotes prosocial behavior. Prosocial behavior is the deliberate action of helping and/or benefiting another person, group, or society in general without any thought of being rewarded. Securing an early infant attachment can develop an automatic response of prosocial behavior which can be applied throughout an individual s life as he or she responds to immediate situations that may occur throughout a lifetime. Anti social behavior is developed when a person lacks the ability to help someone because he or she fails to identify with the feelings or difficulties of someone else (Steele, Bate, Nikitiades, Buhl Nielsen, 2015). Adolescents that display anti social behavior are more likely to develop poor peer competence, have lower academic performance, become involved in adulthood criminality and are at a higher risk of developing adult mental health problems. Anti social behavior in adolescents is expressed by the inability to respect the rights of others which leads to the violation of societal social norms. Some behavior, such as being disobedience or defiant, can be considered as normal behavior in adolescents, however it can also be a strong predictor of adjustment difficulties adolescents may face in their ... There have been several different interpretations of Sherlock Holmes in film, however arguably the most well known movie version is the 2009 film. While the 2009 movie does an alright job of adapting Arthur Conan Doyle s formula to the big screen, it fails to fully realize the character of Sherlock Holmes and the many mystery stories he has been in. First, Arthur Conan Doyle s version of Sherlock Holmes differs from the 2009 film version of Sherlock Holmes by not having a narrator. One of the largest staples of Doyle s stories was the fact that Dr. Watson was narrating every single story. This unique perspective allows ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Arthur Conan Doyle wrote many Sherlock Holmes stories and did so over the course of many years. A large majority of these stories were smaller in scope and focused on a mystery that only pertained to a small area of London, while the 2009 film focuses on a mystery that poses a threat to all of London (IMDb). This immediately shifts the tone of the story to something much darker than usual and could be off putting to potential new fans. While a large scale threat makes for a much more exciting movie, it does not encompass what originally made Arthur Conan Doyle s stories so engaging. The potato chips had the second most amount of fat, and the Doritos had the least amount. Also, the extracted fat from the Oreos was the only kind that retained an obvious smell. The other two had a much lighter scent. My experiment turned out the way it did, because the Oreos had the greatest amount of fat extracted. Diction In Those Winter Sundays, By Robert Hayden Its dreadful what little things lead people to misunderstand each other. Those Winter Sundays is a poem written by Robert Hayden in 1962.In the poem, the speaker is remembering his past experiences with this father. It describes the usual ways sundays were for the speaker. In the poem, it shows the broken relationship between the speaker and the father, through the diction and the way the poem is written. The way Robert Hayden wrote this poem, perfectly describes a broken family without saying it directly, but through the way the poem is formatted. In the poem Those Winter Sundays ,Robert Hayden exposese the ignorance that results in a broken relationship between the father and child, through grim diction, apologetic tone, conflicting imagery. The use of grim diction throughout the poem reveals the negative relationship between the father and child just by the words the author choose. In the poem when the father is getting ready, Hayden describes the environment in the house as Blueblack Cold (Hayden 2). In this part of the poem the father is getting up to warm the house, because of the time period this poem takes place in.If the author was only describing the temperature of the room he problem would said it straight forwards, since this is not the case it is obvious that Hayden is not describing the temperature of the house . By using Blueblack to describe the cold, it gives a powerful adjective describing the cold. When we think of the world blueblack we tend to think of the skin color of a person who has been in the snow for a long time ,so blueblack describe an extreme cold. Cold has a negative connotation in many poems, in this case the cold is the relationship between father and child.By using Blueblack cold as the adjective for cold is makes the reader assume that their relationship between father and child is extremely bad.The speaker describes the place that he is raised in as that house (9).If this was a short story and not a poem that phrase would have been glanced over without a second thought, but since this is a poem that is not the case. In this essay, I will express what we re the exceptional things that I saw. Also, I will use terms from what I learned from class, to explain some factors that I interpreted from the play. Starting off, I love this play, it was hilarious but serious at the same time, it had this dark twist and I believe it was tragic comedy, it had the whole audience captivated and I felt like the message of the play was meet with everyone in the room. There was moments that happen throughout the play that explain those dark twisted moments that made people laugh but didn t realize the deeper meaning to it: Sam, is Carrie little sister and she has so much energy, and when Carrie and Molly fight and they start yelling at each other, she will sit down and keep distance from them and starts naming state birds, for me I felt like the fighting made Sam uncomfortable so in order to cope with it, she names state birds to stir her concentration to something else. A lot of tragic moments happen to the characters, and all got a moment to express how they felt and how they are handling with hard moments of their life s, specially Carrie, where there would be sudden scenes where the spotlight would hit her and she gets a moment to talk about certain things she feels of the death of her father. Gaut, James Moore, the complainant had to prove that Michael Gaut, the owner of the dog involved, knew or should have known that his dog had dangerous propensities, making him liable for the dog bite injury. The evidence provided to the court never showed any record that the dog had ever engaged in behavior that could have been viewed as dangerous behavior. Moore, 2015 Tenn. App. LEXIS 955, at *5. The Court of Appeals agreed with the trial court that Gaut negated the third element for dog bite liability when he testified that his dog never bit or attacked anyone before Plaintiff. Id. at *13. Gaut genuinely believed his dog was friendly, gentle, and jovial before the bite occurred. Id. at *14. Since Gaut was unaware of any dangerous propensities, he was found not liable for the dog bite to Moore. Id. at *15. Despite Mr. Gates outward dislike towards his three dogs, it is likely that he will not be held responsible for the dog bite injury his neighbor suffered because he did not have any knowledge, nor had any reason to know of his dogs having any dangerous propensities. In this case, the injured neighbor wants Gates ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
