Abstract
Music therapy is a clinical and research-based use of music for interventions to accomplish therapeutic healing by a registered music therapist on a patient. The idea of music therapy is to enable patients, who are unable to talk, to use musical activities to express their emotions in songwriting, dancing, singing and playing the musical instruments. To administer music therapy, we require an approved therapist to assess the patients to determine their therapeutic needs. The therapists then provide a goal, schedule and times per week to visit the patient, performs the therapy as planned and evaluates the success of the therapy sessions at certain interval times. ASD is a combination of developmental disorders that affect the skills, behaviors, and levels of abilities in an individual. ASD affects both adults and children. The disorder can be detected after three years for children by their parents. In older children, the teachers or family doctors may detect such symptoms. The earlier the detection, the easier it will be to treat the disorder. For earlier treatment, it is paramount parents to be vigilante on the symptoms for ASD by consulting specialists in autism. The symptoms are in the behavioral symptoms and social interaction behaviors. ASD in children can be treated when caught earlier in developmental stages. Children display similar symptoms to ASD as adults with an addition of sensory problems, emotional difficulties, and uneven cognitive abilities. The methods of diagnosing to confirm ASD requires experts. Music therapy is one of the treatment methods that has proven to be successful in the treatment of children with ASD. Through the musical activities administered by musical therapists, music therapy has helped improve emotional responses, reduce anxiety in children, and improve communication skills of these children in their peer groups. Music therapy has shown that these children have superior abilities compared to their peers. Music therapy is, therefore, beneficial in the treatment of children with ASD and should be considered just like any other treatment.

9. ï¶ Ben is 7 year old boy with dyslexia and subjected to long term therapeutic process.
ï¶ His intellectual capacities are on average level.
ï¶ He comes from a low income family with six children and his elder brother also having
dyslexia.
ï¶ His father is on government allowance and his mother is a blue collar worker.
ï¶ After Ben start schooling, he experiences difficulties in learning letters, writing and reading.
ï¶ He developed fear toward school.
ï¶ And after going through psychological tests boy was postponed school until next academic
year.
ï And then he presented to art therapy sessions which held twice a week and lasted for 1.5
hours.
ï Art therapy room is designed with a table, some armchairs, shelves pictures on the wall and a
magnitude of things to play with and look at it.
ï And corner of the room there was another table, cartons, brushes and paintsâŠetc.
10. ïTherapist applied mainly visual art therapy and also music therapy which comes under art
therapy itself.
ïEach sessions started with debriefing on latest developments of Benâs life and the therapist
started each sessions with the conversation of weather, time of the year, favourite gameâŠetc.
ïTherapist presented drawing and crafting letters and crafting things according to words which Ben
shows interest.
ïMusic techniques were represented by games, singing songs and listening to carefully selected
recording from tape or CD.
ïThese techniques had an relieving effect and mobilized him for taking action.
ïAn additional elements of these activities was learning to play the keyboard when the boy taught
to play simple tunes.
ïReading and writing exercises were included in the activities to make them natural part of the
activities.
ïAnd all Benâs sessions recorded including his drawing, poems and singing songs.
ïAnd therapist always make sure not to put too much burden on him and allowed him for short
breaks.
11. ïAnd instruct his mother to do some of activities at home and convince her that
Benâs problems with reading and writing are not the result of his laziness or
carelessness but having this particular learning disability.
ïAnd therapist encouraged mother to follow her son and not to direct him.
Results after few months of these sessions: (Within 12months)
o He showed enthusiasm to participate these sessions and learn to write and read.
o He enjoyed these techniques.
o Improvement of the disordered functions: perceptions and audio-visual analysis
and synthesis, manual efficiency and visual â motor coordination.
o Improvement towards self-esteem and motivation to learn.
o Initial shyness has decreased.
