Borobudur Temple is a 9th-century Mahayana Buddhist monument located in Magelang, Central Java, Indonesia. It consists of six square platforms topped by three circular platforms decorated with over 2,600 relief panels and 500 Buddha statues. The monument guides Buddhist pilgrims on a journey through the levels of Buddhist cosmology from the base to the top. It was lost for centuries after the decline of Buddhism in Java until being rediscovered in 1814 and has since undergone major restorations.
