Borobudur is a large Buddhist temple located in Magelang, Central Java, Indonesia that was built in the 9th century under the Sailendra dynasty. It is constructed in the form of a stepped pyramidal base with five square platforms topped by three circular platforms, and is decorated with over 500 Buddha statues and 2,672 relief panels telling Buddhist stories. The design of Borobudur symbolizes Buddhist cosmology and the path to enlightenment.
