Allegories In Dante Alighieri
About everything in life has a deeper meaning and it can be found with just a touch of creativity. But
the ability to construct the meaning into literature takes so much more talent. That s where the average
authors get weeded out from the great. Dante Alighieri is one of these great authors and it shows in his
writing. He uses an abundance of allegories throughout his books making the reader overthink every
word. In his book Inferno, Dante Alighieri descriptively crafts three allegories of Francesca, the city of
Florence, and Dante s journey to incorporate hidden symbolism and meaning submerged underneath
the cover story of Dante s version of Hell.
Every once in a while it s necessary to take a step back, evaluate your life, and look at the bigger
picture, which is what Dante did when he toured Hell. Dante Alighieri makes it obvious that Florence
is Dante s Hell on earth by the way he incorporates all the negativity. Dante Alighieri s description of
Florence leaves the readers to believe the city is in political ruins. There are so many sinners living
there and Dante shows this when he says, But tell me, if you can, where they ll all end,/ the citizens of
that divided town?/ Is there amongst them any honest man? (Alighieri 51) to paint a picture of how he
views Florence. The beginning of the quote allows the readers to interpret that Dante doesn t have
much confidence that they will go to heaven, rather he suggests that because of this indecisiveness that
they will later be found in Hell. He used the word divided to show that there is a big controversy,
which split the city of Florence, as he explains in the quote. The second sentence flat out states that he
doesn t believe that there is a single honest man left and this is shown because of how he punctuates
the end of the sentence with a question mark. This proves that Dante considers Florence as Hell
because of all the sinners there. If he doesn t think he could find a single innocent person there, then it
is basically equivalent to Hell, which Dante doesn t want to live in. All the depreciation of Florence
shows that Dante doesn t want to live there and considers the city the trail that s directly feeding
sinners to Hell. Everyone commits sins

Cuban Immigration Policy
My initial reaction is shock, I had no idea about the Cuban immigration policy. Irritation sets in at the
injustice of it, immigrants of all races leave their countries to pursue better lives. The process that any
immigrant is subjected too should be equal to Cubans as well, equal opportunity for entry is fair.
However, this policy allows Cubans to bypass the entire process, regardless of race its unfair to allow
one race and not the other. By granting automatic legal amnesty within hours of them entering the
U.S. can lead to resentment from other races. Segregated immigration is an issue that affects the
general public of the U.S., but its not discussed. Why?
Central Americans are becoming more aware of their situation when immigrating to a new country.
The problem isn t Cubans but the immigration system itself is flawed. Allowing Cubans, a free ...

In 2014 central immigration spiked due to hostile environments in their country. Seeking refugee, they
came to the U.S. Land of the free . Only to be questioned, not admitted, and finding more problems
then they left their own country with. Why is the government favoring a race for entry to the country?
The problem is Cubans have the luxury of walking in to the U.S. while central Americans can only
dream. Citizens of Central America have compromised safety issues, if you don t feel safe in your own
home, and you would rather leave all you have ever known, that s a real problem. Cubans influence
immigration as an idea for central Americans, hope. It trickles down Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua,
Costa Rica, all the way to panama. Everywhere in between gets this notion of a better tomorrow that
never comes. Meanwhile Cubans walk right on in, and central Americans are suddenly creating an
immigration problem. One that Obama called on congress to grant 4 billion to

Execution Of Justice Analysis
The Ohio State University Theatre Department s performance of Execution of Justice, by Emily
Mann, was performed ten times between April 4th and April 10th, 2018. It was directed by Tom
Dugdale, this play is a dramatic retelling of the trial of The People vs Daniel James White of the
killings of former Mayor of San Francisco, George Moscone, and former City Supervisor, Harvey
Milk in November of 1978. The play uses actual transcripts from the trial and brings in voices of
people who would not have been in the courtroom, but whose voices should have been heard. I believe
this play was a success in its performance and directing and technical aspects. It made me sympathize
with the prosecuting attorney and want to know more about what happened and why Dan White only
received two manslaughter charges instead of the two first degree murder charges I came to believe he
deserved. A very impressive performance by Ohio State senior, McKenna Willis, who ... Show more

Dan White appeared alone center stage in his own lighting with the rest of the stage dark on the raised
platform speaking to the audience, saying that he just wanted to do a good job for the city. I found this
moment to be very strong because it felt lonely for him and it showed physically and metaphorically
that he would have been alone in receiving his sentencing and in saying that he wanted to do a good
job and that he was a lonely vote on the board, it reflected his words. After his final line the lights cut
out and into a jagged pattern across the stage, and the the words Execution of Justice appeared in large
font across the back wall. This was really cool, especially with the music in the background because it
all seemed to blend together, I could see the collaboration that would have occurred between media,
sound and lighting very clearly in these final cues. The collaboration notable in the piece as a whole

Huck Finn
Huckleberry Finn is a young boy who struggles with complex issues such as empathy, guilt, fear, and
morality in Mark Twain s Adventures of Huckleberry Finn . There are two different sides to Huck.
One is the subordinate, easily influenced boy whom he becomes when under the guide of Tom
Sawyer. His other persona surfaces when he is on his own, thinking of his friendship with Jim and
agonizing over which to trust: his heart or his conscience. When Huck s ongoing inner struggle with
his own duality forces him to makes difficult and controversial choices, the reader sees a boy in the
throes of moral development. And it is, indeed, a struggle. Although Huck believes in the rules of the
harshly racist society in which he lives, a deeper and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This scene lets the reader have a peek at Huck s morality and sound heart. The next trick Huck plays
on Jim creates a lot of genuine fear and tension for Jim. It is right after Huck and Jim have gotten lost
in the fog and Huck finds and climbs onto the raft while Jim is sleeping. Jim is so relieved to find
Huck back safe and sound that he hugs and squeezes him for a long time until Huck tells him that they
were never separated. Jim believes this until he sees the evidence that they were, and then he
reprimands Huck.
Nonetheless, Huck feels terrible and says, It was fifteen minutes before I could work myself up to go
and humble myself to a nigger but I done it, and I warn t ever sorry for it afterwards, neither. This is
the first time that Huck ever apologizes to or shows empathy towards Jim. In his previous tricks, he
either didn t care at all, or just felt guilty, but here he shows that he is actually concerned about Jim s
feelings. This progression in Huck shows that his morals are developing along with his friendship with
Jim.
As Huck and Jim s friendship develops, so does Huck s empathy for Jim. When Huck encounters the
two men on the river who ask if Huck s friend is white or black, Huck silently struggles between
following his conscience by turning Jim in, or trusting his loyal heart. Huck knows what will happen
to Jim if he turns him in.

The Pros And Cons Of Doping In Sports
Ethical reflection is deemed as being very important in the world of sport. Doping for instance,
although athletes resort to this. It has many ethical objections and is portrayed negatively as numerous
faults are argued about this case.
Doping in sport, is arguably, the most talked about and controversial issue today, with very little
change on it. Although, there has been a substantial increase in the use of it, (Dimeo, 2013) states Anti
doping regulations were only established in the 1960 s, and serves as a useful reminder of an
important but neglected fact about drug use. There is a consistent dispute against doping as, it
fluctuates through all sports and have been demonised by society as it is considered as unethical. The
International Association of Athletics (IAAF) was the first international sports federation, in 1928, to
ban performance enhancing drugs (IAAF, 2003). Followed by the World Anti Doping Agency
(WADA) and The International Olympic Committee (IOC). An athletes engagement in competing is
very important. It is their desire to gain any possible advantage to have an edge on their opponents and
will do anything in their power to be the best. Doping is discriminated due to, being an unequal
playing field and being harmful. This study explores the strengths and weaknesses of these ethical
objections and the sociological theories on the use of drugs in sport.
A common argument against doping in sport shifts from the concept that, there should be a level
playing field for athletes and competition. A connection between doping and wrongness is noticeable
as, it is argued that doping is banned because it is cheating or unfair (Meller, Waddington and
Hoberman, 2015). In some cases, doping in sports is cheating because the athlete is breaking their
contractual obligations, in sports that it is prohibited. (Green, 2004 and Schermer, 2006) define
cheating as being the intentional violation of a rule, that is used in common language as an indication
to many different forms of deception, and fraud that are intended to gain some benefit for oneself.
Cheating essentially involves the intent to gain an unfair advantage (Feezell, 2010). Unfair in the
sense that the athlete has gained themselves a greater

Malnutrition In Older Adults
Older adults are particularly at risk for malnutrition due to changes in their bodies as they age and the
medications they take, which can affect their ability to absorb vital nutrients. (Kathleen Cameron,
Senior Director of NCOA s Center for Healthy Aging). Some problems that can be caused by
malnutrition are a weak immune system, poor wound healing, and muscle weakness.
In a study ( Malnutrition Among Cognitively Intact Non Critically Ill Adults in the Emergency
Department. Published online in the Annals of Emergency Medicine) of senior s ER visits reveals that
physician care in the US is out of touch with reality, that there are gaping holes in the nutritional
quality of the American food supply and that modern day health insurance plans are an illusion of
healthcare. In this study the patient s primary care physicians overlooked their underlying problem of
malnutrition. Their insurance plans were useless to issues of nutrition and only served the medical
system. In this study, the statistics show that the doctors typically glance over the simple ways that
diet can be used to bring people back to health. Too many people lean on a doctor s advice when all
they may need to do is seek out better nutrition. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Expansion Of The European Empire
The expansion of the European empire through the start of the 15th century became a distinctive
feature in world history. By the 20th century, large parts of Africa and Asia were colonies of European
powers. In modern society, there is a clear separation between the 1st and 3rd world. A main
contributor to this division occurred over 150 years ago with Britain and its colonization of India.
Colonization has had a prodigious influence on developing the modernity of a country. In addition to
the centralized political system gained from Britain, India gained numerous modern technologies and
ideologies that helped them progress as a nation. These progressions, however, have had some
negative effects on India that are associated with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The East India Company effectively ruled India from 1757 to 1857, where their rise to power came to
an end after the start of the Indian Rebellion of 1857 (Lawson, 35). The direct reason for the rebellion
still remains unclear. It was either a planned war of independence against the British power, an
uncoordinated uprising of soldiers who felt a threat to their religion and traditional practices, or simply
a mutiny by soldiers who wanted increased pay and greater career opportunities (Iyer, 4). The British
Crown signed the Government of India Act 1858, which liquidated the East India Company,
relinquishing all of its assets to Britain, including the control of the territories seized in India. This was
the beginning of the British rule over India, the British Raj, which established India as a British colony
commonly referred to as British India.
Under British rule, India began receiving some positive changes that modernized its society. The
British had already introduced their political, social, and economic ideals to India due to the previous
influence of the East India trade company. India adopted the ideas of liberty, equality, human rights,
science and technology from the British, and reformed their government into a centralized political
system. In addition, many new legal measures were taken to protect the women and children of India.

The Sapphires And The Stolen Generation
Broken Memories, Broken People, Broken Dreams This narrative text is based off the film The
Sapphires set in Australia in the 1960s. In The Sapphires we see a flashback of Kay s childhood and
how she is part of the Stolen Generation. I will use this storyline as the starting point for my diary
entries. The film gave me background knowledge on Stolen Generation and their experiences they
faced. However, I need to know extra information so I will do further research about the Stolen
Generation, in order to give an accurate description of their experiences. This narrative is targeted
towards everyone. It is designed to inform them about the Stolen Generation and how they changed
when forcibly moved to an Aborigines White Institution. This piece of text will be written in a diary
entry form. I will use informal and conversational language. I will also use descriptive language when
describing objects and sceneries throughout the text. The blazing light was shining in my face and a
slight breeze blew through the arched windows. I spotted an open chest in the attic, whilst spring

making a creak noise against the ghost quiet room. Rummaging my hand around the chest there was a

Andrea Zittel Whiteread
Andrea Zittel was born in in 1965 in California, United States. Rachel Whiteread was born in 1963 in
Essex, United Kingdom. Whiteread deals largely with public art and the exploration of the negative
space in architectural compositions. Rather than making casts of what is there, Whiteread makes casts
of what is not there. In other words, Whiteread makes something new and tangible from the
nothingness of something else. Her technique involves making resin castings of the spaces in between,
under or inside objects and buildings. She abstracts these spaces in an unexpected way, by solidifying
them. One of the Whiteread s artwork is the Water Tower, an artwork Whiteread created for the Public

Persuasive Essay On Sexual Slavery
There are approximately 20 to 30 million sexual slaves in the world today, of which 80% are women,
and half of that are children. That is a lot of people getting trapped into the sex trafficking business
that will most likely spend the rest of their lives trying to pay off their debt, however there are some
women who get their happy endings. There are a lot of intelligent, confident, courageous women who
are now doing what they can to fight against sexual slavery in hopes that if they will make an impact
and prevent the same thing they have been through to other young innocent girls. There are many
successful women who have escaped brothels from all over the world who are now fighting back to
stop sexual slavery. These are women who are reaching out to complete strangers and telling their
stories to warn them, taking their offenders to court, and volunteering at charities and organizations
that are trying to put a stop to sexual slavery.
The girls who are spreading the word to strangers and reaching out with their wisdom are truly making
a difference. They do whatever they can to warn the truth about the brothel, as said in the book Sold, a
novel by Patricia McCormick, Some girls go door to door in the country s most isolated villages to
explain what really happens to girls who leave home with strangers promising good jobs (McCormick,
authors note). There are many girls who leave home with high hopes and absolutely no idea what they

Islamic Laws And Islamic Law Essay
Analysis For the purpose of this analysis I am going to compare each nations legal tradition, and
provide the definition of the rule of law. Iran is considered to be an Islamic country, a country that
practices a sacred legal tradition and more specifically Islamic law. In this type of legal tradition there
is no separations between religious and legal entities. Islamic law is proclaimed as the basis for all
law, including harsh Islamic criminal law, punishment that is based on retribution (Dammer, Albanese
p. 57,58). In Iran, there is a great influence to have Shari a law further integrated in to the national law,
the Quran is the Muslim s holy book and therefore is considered to be the most important source in
Shai a law (Dammer, Albanese p. 57,58). The Quran is around 6,000 versus, although only 80 of those
could be considered legal terms (Amin, 1985a, p. 9). Islamic law is unique compared to other legal
traditions due to the fact that it is not based or representative of customs or traditions, such as those
legal traditions that are based on code law, such as the Civil law that is practiced in Italy and much of
the Western World (Dammer, Albanese, 2014). Italy s legal tradition was based on codified Roman
law. The civil code of 1942 replaced the original code of 1865; Italy currently practices a Civil law
tradition. Civil law tradition is the compound of a multitude of several distinct elements and sub
traditions. The oldest sub tradition was Roman law, which included

As a consequence of the last Conservative Government s privatisation programme, the passenger rail

Position: Rail is only one of a variety of modes of passenger transport in most developed countries.
The other modes of passenger transport are buses and coaches, cars and vans, motor cycles, pedal
cycles and air. It should be noted, however, that since cycling is only suitable for very short distances,
and air travel generally only becomes economic for journeys in excess of 300 km, rails principal
competitor is the motor vehicle. Although rail usage has remained constant in passenger kilometre
terms over the last decade, it has failed to keep pace with the growing demand for passenger travel and
its market share has fallen accordingly. With bus and coach traffic showing identical behaviour, the
beneficiary has inevitably been the car. Over the last 40 years the percentage of total traffic travelling

The Mentality Of Baseball In Fences By August Wilson
August Wilson uses baseball ideology to construct the mindset of his protagonist, Troy Maxson, in
Fences ; however, Wilson also uses Troy to embody black America in the 50s. The metaphorical and
literal significance of baseball is the driving force Troy s subjectivity and ideology. Whether it be
comparing death to baseball pitch, warning his son to not strikeout, or complaining about being stuck
on first base, Troy uses baseball to explain life to those around him. Ironically, it is baseball that
actually leads to Troy s psychic castration. Although Troy was older when he was released from prison
and playing in the Negro leagues, racism held younger players from competing with white Americans
and there is no doubt that Troy saw this as what held him back as well. Unable to play in the major
leagues bitters Troy s attitude towards life and affects his relationship with his son, Cory, and wife,
Rose. While on a micro level, the rules and mechanics of baseball have a negative impact on Troy s
mentality, on a macro level Troy s loyalty to the game can be seen as an empowering force for black
America in the 50s. The idea of not striking out, and the fetish of the home run is meant to represent
the black community s resistance against society s racism during this time. Although the ideology of
baseball consumes Troy to the point of his own personal strikeouts, the ideology itself, and who Troy
represents, is suppose to represent black America s fight against a racist

The time and place The Call of the Wild takes place is in the 1890 s during the Klondike Gold Rush in
Canada. The Call of the Wild s point of view is told from third person limited omniscient. The setting

Consider a scenario of a teenager boy for comparing with this case study. A teenager boy who was
found lying unconscious on the road was brought to the ER by EMS. The only information available
at that time was his name and date of birth. Due to availability of RHIO in the ER, the physician was
quickly able to access his demographics and past medical records. RHIO immensely helped in
locating his parents and diagnose his medical condition. If there was no RHIO system available, then
the hospital would have spent significant amount of time and resources in locating his parents as well
as finding his medical history. Moreover, the hospital would have performed unnecessary diagnostic
tests to figure out the reason of his unconsciousness. Also, the boy s condition would have worsened
by the time the hospital have been able to obtain his accurate medical information. This scenario
provides a good comparison between the use of RHIO by WHIN and its current applications. The
above scenario made me realized the advantages of RHIO. In my opinion, I would have encouraged
the use of RHIO by EMS personnel. This could have helped the EMS in identifying the appropriate
cause of his unconsciousness and they could have been able to manage his medical condition prior to

Christian Rap And The Music

Christian Rap (gasp and pause for dramatic effect) I then heard the displeasure start arising from the

souls?
As someone who did not grow up in church and did not become a Christian until a few years ago was
learning that secular music, while not honoring Christ at all can be used as a ministry. Knowing the
love of Christ helped me to hear a deeper meaning in rap songs when I listened to them. Through that
I began to see that in every rap song there was some type of brokenness to the artist as they rapped
about going through multiple girls but not finding the right one, having all this money but never
enough stuff, and looking for conformation from all the wrong people. People, especially Christians
want to look down on the rap community because the lifestyle they live in but they cannot see that
these very same people that are idolized by the world are just as broken as we are/were. Without an
understanding of this music how can we show lost people that they can listen to the style that they are
so found of while worshipping the God that made them?

instead pointed me into a further direction of worship with God. I was getting set to drive us to a youth

Education Is The Most Powerful Weapon
Nelson Mandela one said, Education is the most powerful weapon we can use to change the world.
Education is not just a term to explain a process of getting instructions. Instead, education is extremely
essential procedure in one s life to have this weapon as explained by Mandela. As individuals we tend
to learn from life experiences and events that go on around us. We not only learn about how to become
successful in life instead we learn how to make a living as we encounter new individuals and new life
lessons that teach us whether how to cook, clean, or even how to do math. A person cannot only be
educated if they have a degree instead we all are educated in some unique manner whether it is to sew,
draw, sing, or even as a doctor which helps us complete our given task. School is an institution created
to discipline and educate students in order to become more knowledgeable. Many individuals in
history and even people now attend school as it has become a crucial part in our society just like how
other places such as hospitals and stores have in order to meet the needs of the society s members.
Many individuals believe that school is not an essential aspect in life that helps one grow because of
how they are being educated, in which John Gatto is one of them as well. Even though no school is the
best for everyone, it is still needed to help an individual grow emotionally, intellectual, and socially
into a contributing member of society.
Gatto is the author of the article,

Joseph Smith Beliefs
History books have called Joseph Smith an American religious leader who founded the modern day
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS). This religious institution is based on Smiths
visions and the followers of the LDS church are called Mormon s. His vision was for the restoration of
the early Christian church and a new way of life to live by. While Smith visions and ethics have been
controversial at times, millions still follow his teachings and the religious culture he started in 1830.
Today the Mormon Church has over 15 million followers and has grown to touch many parts of the
world with its 83 thousand missionaries. (A Prophet) Visionary Leader From an early age Joseph
Smith had an interest in religion. But he was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was because of the controversial views from the main stream Christian beliefs at the time and
lack of diversity in the era of early religion in America. According to Thomas N. Barnes Center
(2012a) the diversity Smith faced caused an ethical dilemma on which way to handle this situation.
Instead of giving to the main stream religion of the era, Smith moved his new church and followers
west to so they could continue to follow what they believed and the vision Smith had instilled in them.
(p. LM01SG 5) However, ultimately in 1844 Joseph Smith was jailed in Illinois because of his
teachings and beliefs and was shot to death during a jail mob. Joseph Smith Jr. was only 38 years old
at the time of his death, but his teachings and beliefs of the Mormon Church still endure today.
(Joseph Smith). His vision has been controversial at times, but none the less, millions still follow his
vision and the religious culture which Smith started continues to endure and grow in this present day
all over the world. Ethical Leader Ultimately Joseph Smith Jr. was murdered because the main stream
Christians in the 1800 s did not believe his values and beliefs were ethical. However, even though his
teachings and beliefs were considered taboo to some then, they have endured to become and build one
the largest church s in the world today. (Joseph Smith) Joseph Smith was ethical because his beliefs

The Battle Between Cell in the Body and Pathogens in the...
A constant battle occurs between the cells in the body and the pathogens in the environment. As a
result, humans have evolved a very complex immune system to protect against the pathogens. Some of
the cells that make up the adaptive immune system are the T cells and B cells. They are the body s
defence against pathogens at a cellular level by recognising a range of features which may be present
on a pathogen and are able to facilitate the destruction of the pathogen by binding to it. Additionally,
the cells need to be able to identify a wide range of antigens and to produce a large response to the
antigen when the correct antibody is produced(Chaplin, 2010). In this essay, the mechanism of T and
C cell development will be investigated and the development of T cells and B cells will be compared
and contrasted.
T and B cells both begin development in the bone marrow as haematopoietic stem cells(Liu et al.,
2013). The cells that will become T cells then migrate to the thymus where they mature and the B cells
stay in the bone marrow to mature. The function of each cell type is similar in that they both need to
protect the body against pathogens; however the mechanisms that they do this differ. T cells bind to
antigens from the pathogen presented by MHC molecules whereas B cells produce antibodies from the
pathogen directly and do not need the antigen to be presented by another cell.
Both T and B cells need to undergo tolerance tests to make sure they won t be reactive to self

The Mystery Date
It all began with a simple phone call one night after dinner, Joe, my father hollered up the stairs, it s
for you. It s Jackie, and she sounds upset. As I came downstairs to pick up the phone, I was not happy.
I was tired and had looked forward to a nice quiet evening at home, not another stupid adventure with
Jackie. Thirty minutes later, however, Jackie s silver Mustang convertible swung into our driveway,
and Jackie was leaning on the horn before the car came to a full stop. Grabbing my coat from the
couch, I walk out my front door with all the enthusiasm of a man going to stand before a firing squad.
We head off down the road, I fretted, Where are we going? To a mystery movie and then a mansion
with a bunch of people we don t know, she replied. Ten minutes later, we were in the theater to watch
this movie. The movie was about a mysterious man who hosted a dinner party at his mansion. He had
invited a bunch of people who lived in the city. These people were from his high school and were the
ones who had bullied and hurt him. When his party began, he was not at his own party, but instead
was hiding in his elaborately built mansion so that he could hide almost anywhere without being seen
or heard. The mystery host intended to kill all of his guests for revenge. He murdered all, but one
person who was a private detective. The host was caught while he was trying to kill the P.I. and was
later sentenced to death for killing many people. When the movie was

The Canterbury Tales And Sir Gawain And The Green Knight
In The Canterbury Tales and in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, there were many thematic
messages. The Canterbury Tales, Chaucer portrays greed and corruption through church figures, social
ranks by having society split into five social groups, and gender relationships. In Sir Gawain and the
Green Knight, honor, loyalty, promises, and morality were the thematic messages. Sir Gawain had a
duty that would show his honor and loyalty and see if he can keep his promise to the Green Knight.
For Canterbury Tales, greed and corruption will be discussed. In Sir Gawain and the Green Knight
honor is the main message so honor is the thematic message I ll discuss.
In Canterbury Tales a narrator and twenty nine pilgrims company each other on their way to
Canterbury. As they re on their way the narrator decides that they need to entertain each other with
stories. It will be a contest so whoever he judges to be the best storyteller will receive a meal at the
tavern. All stories will deal with either greed and corruption, social rank, or gender relationships. The
pilgrims draw straws and decide that the knight will go first. In the Pardoner´s Tale three men are on
the hunt for a mysterious figure named Death. As they are traveling down the road they meet an old
man who says he has been waiting for Death himself; he then directs the three drunken men to where
Death is. The three men followed his directions and ended up in a grove under an oak tree but Death
was not to be found, only eight

The Racial Stereotyping Of Minority Groups Is A Prevalent
The racial stereotyping of minority groups is a prevalent problem within the United State s criminal
justice system. It is a regrettable issue which permeates American society. The young Black male, in
particular, is often portrayed as a criminal based on incorrect assumptions regarding who perpetrates
crime. There are several components contributing to the criminal stigma of Blacks. The way crime is
conveyed by American culture is possibly as important as how crime actually functions. The
widespread belief that Black males commit the majority of crime skews the view society s perception
of Blacks. Typifications of Black males include a violent, threatening, thug like character. The
connection between race and crime is so deeply seeded in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Recently, these numbers receded but the stigma remains. Research indicates the crimes Blacks commit
surpass the expected rates, based on the racial composition of America. These statistics are further
exacerbated because Black males commit more frightening and violent crimes. The war on drugs was
a dominant contributor to the Black typification of crime. In the 1980s, the Reagan administration
waged the war on drugs. In accordance with this agenda, strict penalties were enacted to crack down
on crack cocaine. Crack cocaine is a less expensive drug predominately used by the lower class,
specifically minorities. The Black population suffered under these new laws but Whites were largely
unaffected. While drug use is prevalent at similar rates across races, whites are more likely to use
powder cocaine which law enforcement agencies tend not to acknowledge. Crack cocaine became the
target of harsh penalties because it is affordable, accessible, and used primarily by Blacks. The war on
drugs is occasionally referred to as the war on Blacks due to the high incarceration rate of the Black
population during this time. Illegal drugs are often associated with robbery and assault which further
perpetuates the stereotype of the Black criminal . The criminal justice system processes a
disproportionate amount of minority offenders. The number of minority offenders is greater than their
representation in

2. The essay is called Discourse on Method. Based on the reading, what method do you think
Descartes is referring to (for doing what), and what does the method consist of? . The doubt method.
Descartes s method of doubt is to defeat skepticism on its own ground. Begin by doubting the truth of
everything not only the evidence of the senses and the more extravagant cultural presuppositions, but
even the fundamental process of reasoning itself. If any particular truth about the world can survive
this extreme skeptical challenge, then it must be truly indubitable and therefore a perfectly certain
foundation for knowledge 3. On his way to rebuilding a system of knowledge based on pure thought,
Descartes concluded that he knows he must exist. Explain in your own words how he arrived at this
conclusion. As long as he can think than he exists. You need a thinker to produce a thought. Even if he
doubts his own existence, that s a thought which would actually prove his existence. I think, therefore
I am. Descartes now believes he exists in a non physical sense (mind or soul,

Leviathan by Thomas Hobbes Essay
Leviathan by Thomas Hobbes In 1651, Thomas Hobbes published Leviathan, his famous work that
detailed his physicalist outlook and his concept of the value of a social contract for a peaceful society
and the nature of man. His major belief was that man is a beast that defines his identity through the
need to be controlled under some kind of external, oppressive power. This essay will explain Hobbes
views of man s identity in the society and will demonstrate how it was mirrored in the political
structure. In Hobbes work, he explained that if individuals within a society continually lived by their
own self interests, they would continue to hurt each other and be stuck in a state of war, or chaos. If
the members of society were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this state of war, says Hobbes, the continual fear of our neighbors would reduce our lives to:
solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short. It would be solitary because we have no reason to trust anyone
else; poor because we have no possible benefit of commerce in such war; nasty because we are
continually threatened and fearful of one another; brutish because we only have time to act on our
passions like our fellow animals; and short because war of all against all results in many untimely and
violent deaths. 1 This incredibly pessimistic account of the nature of human life, Hobbes says, is born
in part by the actions of all of us, when, without any thinking, we arm ourselves and lock our doors.
Does not there as much accuse of mankind by his actions as I do with my words? But neither of us
accuse man s nature in it. The desires and the other passions of man, are in themselves no sin. No
more are the actions, that proceed from those passions, till they know a law that forbids them: which
till laws be made they cannot know: nor can a law be made, till they have agreed upon the person to
make it. 2 Accordingly, by arming ourselves and locking our doors, Hobbes political
recommendations reflect the way we live. In today s society it seems that no one believes in anything
but money, which is leaving us morally bankrupt. People do what meets their own self interests. This
moral disintegration pulses through

Dilemmas Facing the People of Norway Today Essay examples
Norway is a country with a long and interesting history. They are the descendants of Vikings. They
managed to survive being occupied by Germans in World War II, even fighting back as well as they
could. Now they are dealing with the same issues that many countries are dealing with, how to interact
with the rest of the world in this new age of global connectivity. They are trying to find the balance
between progress and trying to maintain their cultural uniqueness. In this increasingly technologically
fueled society, how can they manage to maintain interpersonal relationships? Where should the line be

agreed to cooperate with each other with ...research and development, education, social policy, the
environment, consumer protection, tourism and culture, collectively known as flanking and horizontal
policies (Baur). While they do have many benefits, the EEA does not share common fishing and

justice and home affairs, or monetary union (Baur). This makes it so there are many benefits to both
the EU and the EFTA, but the benefits are not as good as the ones they enjoy within their own groups.
The culture of Norway is an amazing thing to study. The country has managed to retain some of their
most important traditions, while moving into a modern world. Along with traditional dress and
customs, there are also many prominent pieces of art, music and architecture that are well known and

important character trait. They have carried their traditional attitudes over into their business dealings.

Catcher in the Rye Word Choice
Word Choice in The Catcher in the Rye By Tom Condon Word choice is a crucial element in a well
crafted story. The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger is about a 16 year old in New York in the 1950 s
named Holden Caulfield. The book is about his exploration in the world as he suffers from severe
mental trauma from his point of view. J.D. Salinger uses word choice for realism, theme, and depth of
character to make the story relate to the reader and add dimension. The Catcher in Rye contains many
distinct characters, and the dialogue and inner thought are crucial in the reader s view of them. The
word choice is one of the key components in displaying the character s personality, and makes them

Word choice is a key part of revealing character, making the story seem realistic, and making themes
identifiable. The words that are said are all deep in meaning which help the story s dimension. It
improves the story drastically. Half of the book s charm comes from how Holden describes things in
his life. That just goes to show how much of a part wording comes into play in making The Catcher in

Theories About The Etruscans
The Etruscans were a people steeped in mystery that thrived in Tuscany, most of the information we
have about the Etruscans are from indirect sources, either from Roman historians, the same Roman
historians that helped erase most of Etruscan culture, or Ancient Greek historians who some believe
didn t culturally grasp the different cultural values of their society. There is no concrete theory of
where the Etruscans originated but they lived between the 7th and 3rd centuries BC. An mtDNA study
completed in 2013 stated that the Etruscans were most likely an indigenous population. Another study
completed six years earlier in 2007, hypothesized that they showed no similarities genetically to
specimens from the near east, which vaguely could disprove one of the two most popular theories
about the Etruscans heritage. Regarding the Etruscans there are two theories that hint towards who
they were, and where they came from. The most accepted theory on their origin essentially states that
the Etruscans were native to Italy and had been there for a considerable ... Show more content on

language and manner of living were so great that historians hypothesize that they were so different

Black Lives Matter Controversy
In recent years, there has been a variety of events that have occurred which caused people to realize
the inequality that still happens in modern day society. Between gay marriage becoming legal in 2015
and the recent presidential election, there have been many situations that have caused a form of
division between the people of the United States. A major group that has shed some light on the
inequality that occurs in modern day society is the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement. The BLM
website states that this they label themselves as a group of 50+ organizations that have come together
with a renewed purpose to spread a common vision and agenda. Although many people view them as
a great step toward furthering equality amongst all people, there is a select group of people who
disagree. The Black Lives matter website also states that their common vision is to continue to move
towards a world in which the full humanity and dignity of all people is recognized. While doing this,
BLM also intends to include other groups of people who experience oppression. Such as the LBGTQ
community, women, Muslims, people who were previously or currently undocumented and much
more. One of the major arguments of the Black Lives Matter movement is to end the war on black
people. There have been many situations in the last two years that have been brought to light through
both social media and news broadcasting as well. The events that are causing a wide controversy

Martin Luther And John Calvin Comparison Essay
The reformation was going on led by the Martin Luther, while John Calvin was born and decided upon
converting to protestantism. Both argued that the Catholic Church stirred away from its original
mission to help reach heaven and help the poor. Both reformers wanted to return the people onto the
right path in their spiritual life. Politically, Luther and Calvin believed that the Pope must not own
such power and have so much lavish, instead spend the money for the better of the society, they also
believed that each state must choose their own religion. Socially, they both believed that the laypeople
should be educated and have access to the bible for own interpretation and that all people are equal in

Communism existed in the times of ancient Greece, but for the modern day it was based on a person

Teacher Perspectives for Response to Intervention Essay...
Teacher Perceptions of the Response to Intervention Model
Introduction
Response to Intervention (RTI) is a system wide approach in general education to prevent and/or
resolve lack of student success. RTI provides the framework and means to meet the needs of all
learners, especially struggling learners, by using data based decisions to identify the students, link
interventions and instruction to their needs, monitor their progress, and make adjustments as needed
based on an ongoing review of the data. Schools are restructuring to include the formation of data
teams at the school and/or grade level. The team is responsible for analyzing achievement and

As the system coordinator for Response to Intervention services, I witness firsthand the frustrations
teachers experience with this state mandated practice. One concern that has been shared with me is the
lack of training that teachers are exposed to regarding implementing RTI. Teachers note that it appears
to be a top down approach and little to no information makes it back to the classroom level. A second
concern is how to find the time to implement intervention when there are strict guidelines to class
scheduling, lack of funding, and no additional support personnel available, especially at the high
school level.
The intent of this study is to learn about teacher perceptions surrounding implementation of the
Response to Intervention model. The focus will be on selected experienced teachers currently
employed by the Valdosta City School system. The central questions to the study include but are not
limited to the following:
What knowledge do you have surrounding implementing RTI in your classroom? How is Response to
Intervention practiced in your classroom? What research based practices are utilized in classrooms?
How do you monitor a student s response to an intervention? What are some core issues with
implementing RTI in classrooms? What supports are in place to meet

Plessy V. Ferguson Case Analysis
Before the Union victory in 1865, Congress assembled for the challenges the United States would face
at the war s end, particularly the integration of four million emancipated African Americans into the
country. The Congressional Reconstruction period generated the Thirteenth, Fourteenth, and Fifteenth
amendments into the United States Constitution. These amendments extended legal and civil
protections to former slaves. These three amendments were foundation of the civil rights movement;
because it gave new constitutional protections to African Americans, though the struggle to fully
achieve equality would continue into the future, it led the civil rights movement on to the right path.
The Thirteenth amendment¹ was formed in 1865, it stated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The primary goals of the movement were to end segregation across America, desegregate schools and
other public facilities, reverse to notion separate but equal , and achieve overall equality. Shortly after
the Fourteenth amendment was passed, America erupted with opinions due to the Plessy v. Ferguson
decision. Plessy v. Ferguson was a U.S. Supreme Court case that supported the right for states to pass
laws allowing racial segregation in public and private institutions such as schools, public
transportation, restrooms, etc. The Plessy v. Ferguson case was important in the course of United
States history, because its outcome upheld the belief that racial segregation was legal under the
separate but equal doctrine. The Court held segregation as legal under the Fourteenth Amendment,
Equal Protection Clause. The clause explained that no state shall... deny to any person within its
jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws. (Equal Protection Clause 1868) The decision validated
the action of segregation and the proliferation of the Jim Crow laws. This was a major part of what the
Civil Rights movement of the 1950 s 60 s hoped to terminate. Ultimately, Plessy v. Ferguson, (1896)
was rescinded by Brown v. Board of Education, 347 US 483

  • 2. Allegories In Dante Alighieri About everything in life has a deeper meaning and it can be found with just a touch of creativity. But the ability to construct the meaning into literature takes so much more talent. That s where the average authors get weeded out from the great. Dante Alighieri is one of these great authors and it shows in his writing. He uses an abundance of allegories throughout his books making the reader overthink every word. In his book Inferno, Dante Alighieri descriptively crafts three allegories of Francesca, the city of Florence, and Dante s journey to incorporate hidden symbolism and meaning submerged underneath the cover story of Dante s version of Hell. Every once in a while it s necessary to take a step back, evaluate your life, and look at the bigger picture, which is what Dante did when he toured Hell. Dante Alighieri makes it obvious that Florence is Dante s Hell on earth by the way he incorporates all the negativity. Dante Alighieri s description of Florence leaves the readers to believe the city is in political ruins. There are so many sinners living there and Dante shows this when he says, But tell me, if you can, where they ll all end,/ the citizens of that divided town?/ Is there amongst them any honest man? (Alighieri 51) to paint a picture of how he views Florence. The beginning of the quote allows the readers to interpret that Dante doesn t have much confidence that they will go to heaven, rather he suggests that because of this indecisiveness that they will later be found in Hell. He used the word divided to show that there is a big controversy, which split the city of Florence, as he explains in the quote. The second sentence flat out states that he doesn t believe that there is a single honest man left and this is shown because of how he punctuates the end of the sentence with a question mark. This proves that Dante considers Florence as Hell because of all the sinners there. If he doesn t think he could find a single innocent person there, then it is basically equivalent to Hell, which Dante doesn t want to live in. All the depreciation of Florence shows that Dante doesn t want to live there and considers the city the trail that s directly feeding sinners to Hell. Everyone commits sins ... • 4. Cuban Immigration Policy My initial reaction is shock, I had no idea about the Cuban immigration policy. Irritation sets in at the injustice of it, immigrants of all races leave their countries to pursue better lives. The process that any immigrant is subjected too should be equal to Cubans as well, equal opportunity for entry is fair. However, this policy allows Cubans to bypass the entire process, regardless of race its unfair to allow one race and not the other. By granting automatic legal amnesty within hours of them entering the U.S. can lead to resentment from other races. Segregated immigration is an issue that affects the general public of the U.S., but its not discussed. Why? Central Americans are becoming more aware of their situation when immigrating to a new country. The problem isn t Cubans but the immigration system itself is flawed. Allowing Cubans, a free ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 2014 central immigration spiked due to hostile environments in their country. Seeking refugee, they came to the U.S. Land of the free . Only to be questioned, not admitted, and finding more problems then they left their own country with. Why is the government favoring a race for entry to the country? The problem is Cubans have the luxury of walking in to the U.S. while central Americans can only dream. Citizens of Central America have compromised safety issues, if you don t feel safe in your own home, and you would rather leave all you have ever known, that s a real problem. Cubans influence immigration as an idea for central Americans, hope. It trickles down Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, all the way to panama. Everywhere in between gets this notion of a better tomorrow that never comes. Meanwhile Cubans walk right on in, and central Americans are suddenly creating an immigration problem. • 5. Execution Of Justice Analysis The Ohio State University Theatre Department s performance of Execution of Justice, by Emily Mann, was performed ten times between April 4th and April 10th, 2018. It was directed by Tom Dugdale, this play is a dramatic retelling of the trial of The People vs Daniel James White of the killings of former Mayor of San Francisco, George Moscone, and former City Supervisor, Harvey Milk in November of 1978. The play uses actual transcripts from the trial and brings in voices of people who would not have been in the courtroom, but whose voices should have been heard. I believe this play was a success in its performance and directing and technical aspects. It made me sympathize with the prosecuting attorney and want to know more about what happened and why Dan White only received two manslaughter charges instead of the two first degree murder charges I came to believe he deserved. A very impressive performance by Ohio State senior, McKenna Willis, who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dan White appeared alone center stage in his own lighting with the rest of the stage dark on the raised platform speaking to the audience, saying that he just wanted to do a good job for the city. I found this moment to be very strong because it felt lonely for him and it showed physically and metaphorically that he would have been alone in receiving his sentencing and in saying that he wanted to do a good job and that he was a lonely vote on the board, it reflected his words. After his final line the lights cut out and into a jagged pattern across the stage, and the the words Execution of Justice appeared in large font across the back wall. This was really cool, especially with the music in the background because it all seemed to blend together, I could see the collaboration that would have occurred between media, sound and lighting very clearly in these final cues. The collaboration notable in the piece as a whole was very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Huck Finn Huckleberry Finn is a young boy who struggles with complex issues such as empathy, guilt, fear, and morality in Mark Twain s Adventures of Huckleberry Finn . There are two different sides to Huck. One is the subordinate, easily influenced boy whom he becomes when under the guide of Tom Sawyer. His other persona surfaces when he is on his own, thinking of his friendship with Jim and agonizing over which to trust: his heart or his conscience. When Huck s ongoing inner struggle with his own duality forces him to makes difficult and controversial choices, the reader sees a boy in the throes of moral development. And it is, indeed, a struggle. Although Huck believes in the rules of the harshly racist society in which he lives, a deeper and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This scene lets the reader have a peek at Huck s morality and sound heart. The next trick Huck plays on Jim creates a lot of genuine fear and tension for Jim. It is right after Huck and Jim have gotten lost in the fog and Huck finds and climbs onto the raft while Jim is sleeping. Jim is so relieved to find Huck back safe and sound that he hugs and squeezes him for a long time until Huck tells him that they were never separated. Jim believes this until he sees the evidence that they were, and then he reprimands Huck. Nonetheless, Huck feels terrible and says, It was fifteen minutes before I could work myself up to go and humble myself to a nigger but I done it, and I warn t ever sorry for it afterwards, neither. This is the first time that Huck ever apologizes to or shows empathy towards Jim. In his previous tricks, he either didn t care at all, or just felt guilty, but here he shows that he is actually concerned about Jim s feelings. This progression in Huck shows that his morals are developing along with his friendship with Jim. As Huck and Jim s friendship develops, so does Huck s empathy for Jim. When Huck encounters the two men on the river who ask if Huck s friend is white or black, Huck silently struggles between following his conscience by turning Jim in, or trusting his loyal heart. Huck knows what will happen to Jim if he turns him in. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Pros And Cons Of Doping In Sports Ethical reflection is deemed as being very important in the world of sport. Doping for instance, although athletes resort to this. It has many ethical objections and is portrayed negatively as numerous faults are argued about this case. Doping in sport, is arguably, the most talked about and controversial issue today, with very little change on it. Although, there has been a substantial increase in the use of it, (Dimeo, 2013) states Anti doping regulations were only established in the 1960 s, and serves as a useful reminder of an important but neglected fact about drug use. There is a consistent dispute against doping as, it fluctuates through all sports and have been demonised by society as it is considered as unethical. The International Association of Athletics (IAAF) was the first international sports federation, in 1928, to ban performance enhancing drugs (IAAF, 2003). Followed by the World Anti Doping Agency (WADA) and The International Olympic Committee (IOC). An athletes engagement in competing is very important. It is their desire to gain any possible advantage to have an edge on their opponents and will do anything in their power to be the best. Doping is discriminated due to, being an unequal playing field and being harmful. This study explores the strengths and weaknesses of these ethical objections and the sociological theories on the use of drugs in sport. A common argument against doping in sport shifts from the concept that, there should be a level playing field for athletes and competition. A connection between doping and wrongness is noticeable as, it is argued that doping is banned because it is cheating or unfair (Meller, Waddington and Hoberman, 2015). In some cases, doping in sports is cheating because the athlete is breaking their contractual obligations, in sports that it is prohibited. (Green, 2004 and Schermer, 2006) define cheating as being the intentional violation of a rule, that is used in common language as an indication to many different forms of deception, and fraud that are intended to gain some benefit for oneself. Cheating essentially involves the intent to gain an unfair advantage (Feezell, 2010). Unfair in the sense that the athlete has gained themselves a greater ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Malnutrition In Older Adults Older adults are particularly at risk for malnutrition due to changes in their bodies as they age and the medications they take, which can affect their ability to absorb vital nutrients. (Kathleen Cameron, Senior Director of NCOA s Center for Healthy Aging). Some problems that can be caused by malnutrition are a weak immune system, poor wound healing, and muscle weakness. In a study ( Malnutrition Among Cognitively Intact Non Critically Ill Adults in the Emergency Department. Published online in the Annals of Emergency Medicine) of senior s ER visits reveals that physician care in the US is out of touch with reality, that there are gaping holes in the nutritional quality of the American food supply and that modern day health insurance plans are an illusion of healthcare. In this study the patient s primary care physicians overlooked their underlying problem of malnutrition. Their insurance plans were useless to issues of nutrition and only served the medical system. In this study, the statistics show that the doctors typically glance over the simple ways that diet can be used to bring people back to health. By the 20th century, large parts of Africa and Asia were colonies of European powers. In modern society, there is a clear separation between the 1st and 3rd world. A main contributor to this division occurred over 150 years ago with Britain and its colonization of India. Colonization has had a prodigious influence on developing the modernity of a country. The direct reason for the rebellion still remains unclear. It was either a planned war of independence against the British power, an uncoordinated uprising of soldiers who felt a threat to their religion and traditional practices, or simply a mutiny by soldiers who wanted increased pay and greater career opportunities (Iyer, 4). The British Crown signed the Government of India Act 1858, which liquidated the East India Company, relinquishing all of its assets to Britain, including the control of the territories seized in India. This was the beginning of the British rule over India, the British Raj, which established India as a British colony commonly referred to as British India. Under British rule, India began receiving some positive changes that modernized its society. The British had already introduced their political, social, and economic ideals to India due to the previous influence of the East India trade company. India adopted the ideas of liberty, equality, human rights, science and technology from the British, and reformed their government into a centralized political system. In addition, many new legal measures were taken to protect the women and children of India. The ritual in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Sapphires And The Stolen Generation Broken Memories, Broken People, Broken Dreams This narrative text is based off the film The Sapphires set in Australia in the 1960s. In The Sapphires we see a flashback of Kay s childhood and how she is part of the Stolen Generation. I will use this storyline as the starting point for my diary entries. The film gave me background knowledge on Stolen Generation and their experiences they faced. However, I need to know extra information so I will do further research about the Stolen Generation, in order to give an accurate description of their experiences. This narrative is targeted towards everyone. It is designed to inform them about the Stolen Generation and how they changed when forcibly moved to an Aborigines White Institution. This piece of text will be written in a diary entry form. I will use informal and conversational language. I will also use descriptive language when describing objects and sceneries throughout the text. The blazing light was shining in my face and a slight breeze blew through the arched windows. I spotted an open chest in the attic, whilst spring cleaning. The outside rim of the box was covered in dust and cobbled webs; the hinge was rusty, making a creak noise against the ghost quiet room. Rummaging my hand around the chest there was a scratchy substance digging against my fingers. As the sun faded from my sight I lifted up the mysterious object. • 13. Islamic Laws And Islamic Law Essay Analysis For the purpose of this analysis I am going to compare each nations legal tradition, and provide the definition of the rule of law. Iran is considered to be an Islamic country, a country that practices a sacred legal tradition and more specifically Islamic law. In this type of legal tradition there is no separations between religious and legal entities. Islamic law is proclaimed as the basis for all law, including harsh Islamic criminal law, punishment that is based on retribution (Dammer, Albanese p. 57,58). In Iran, there is a great influence to have Shari a law further integrated in to the national law, the Quran is the Muslim s holy book and therefore is considered to be the most important source in Shai a law (Dammer, Albanese p. 57,58). The Quran is around 6,000 versus, although only 80 of those could be considered legal terms (Amin, 1985a, p. 9). Islamic law is unique compared to other legal traditions due to the fact that it is not based or representative of customs or traditions, such as those legal traditions that are based on code law, such as the Civil law that is practiced in Italy and much of the Western World (Dammer, Albanese, 2014). Italy s legal tradition was based on codified Roman law. The civil code of 1942 replaced the original code of 1865; Italy currently practices a Civil law tradition. • 15. The Mentality Of Baseball In Fences By August Wilson August Wilson uses baseball ideology to construct the mindset of his protagonist, Troy Maxson, in Fences ; however, Wilson also uses Troy to embody black America in the 50s. The metaphorical and literal significance of baseball is the driving force Troy s subjectivity and ideology. Whether it be comparing death to baseball pitch, warning his son to not strikeout, or complaining about being stuck on first base, Troy uses baseball to explain life to those around him. Ironically, it is baseball that actually leads to Troy s psychic castration. Although Troy was older when he was released from prison and playing in the Negro leagues, racism held younger players from competing with white Americans and there is no doubt that Troy saw this as what held him back as well. Unable to play in the major leagues bitters Troy s attitude towards life and affects his relationship with his son, Cory, and wife, Rose. While on a micro level, the rules and mechanics of baseball have a negative impact on Troy s mentality, on a macro level Troy s loyalty to the game can be seen as an empowering force for black America in the 50s. The idea of not striking out, and the fetish of the home run is meant to represent the black community s resistance against society s racism during this time. Although the ideology of baseball consumes Troy to the point of his own personal strikeouts, the ideology itself, and who Troy represents, is suppose to represent black America s fight against a racist ... As someone who did not grow up in church and did not become a Christian until a few years ago was learning that secular music, while not honoring Christ at all can be used as a ministry. Education is not just a term to explain a process of getting instructions. Instead, education is extremely essential procedure in one s life to have this weapon as explained by Mandela. As individuals we tend to learn from life experiences and events that go on around us. We not only learn about how to become successful in life instead we learn how to make a living as we encounter new individuals and new life lessons that teach us whether how to cook, clean, or even how to do math. A person cannot only be educated if they have a degree instead we all are educated in some unique manner whether it is to sew, draw, sing, or even as a doctor which helps us complete our given task. School is an institution created to discipline and educate students in order to become more knowledgeable. Many individuals in history and even people now attend school as it has become a crucial part in our society just like how other places such as hospitals and stores have in order to meet the needs of the society s members. Many individuals believe that school is not an essential aspect in life that helps one grow because of how they are being educated, in which John Gatto is one of them as well. • 22. The Battle Between Cell in the Body and Pathogens in the... A constant battle occurs between the cells in the body and the pathogens in the environment. As a result, humans have evolved a very complex immune system to protect against the pathogens. Some of the cells that make up the adaptive immune system are the T cells and B cells. They are the body s defence against pathogens at a cellular level by recognising a range of features which may be present on a pathogen and are able to facilitate the destruction of the pathogen by binding to it. Additionally, the cells need to be able to identify a wide range of antigens and to produce a large response to the antigen when the correct antibody is produced(Chaplin, 2010). In this essay, the mechanism of T and C cell development will be investigated and the development of T cells and B cells will be compared and contrasted. T and B cells both begin development in the bone marrow as haematopoietic stem cells(Liu et al., 2013). The cells that will become T cells then migrate to the thymus where they mature and the B cells stay in the bone marrow to mature. The function of each cell type is similar in that they both need to protect the body against pathogens; however the mechanisms that they do this differ. T cells bind to antigens from the pathogen presented by MHC molecules whereas B cells produce antibodies from the pathogen directly and do not need the antigen to be presented by another cell. It would be solitary because we have no reason to trust anyone else; poor because we have no possible benefit of commerce in such war; nasty because we are continually threatened and fearful of one another; brutish because we only have time to act on our passions like our fellow animals; and short because war of all against all results in many untimely and violent deaths. 1 This incredibly pessimistic account of the nature of human life, Hobbes says, is born in part by the actions of all of us, when, without any thinking, we arm ourselves and lock our doors. Does not there as much accuse of mankind by his actions as I do with my words? But neither of us accuse man s nature in it. The desires and the other passions of man, are in themselves no sin. No more are the actions, that proceed from those passions, till they know a law that forbids them: which till laws be made they cannot know: nor can a law be made, till they have agreed upon the person to make it. 2 Accordingly, by arming ourselves and locking our doors, Hobbes political recommendations reflect the way we live. Theories About The Etruscans The Etruscans were a people steeped in mystery that thrived in Tuscany, most of the information we have about the Etruscans are from indirect sources, either from Roman historians, the same Roman historians that helped erase most of Etruscan culture, or Ancient Greek historians who some believe didn t culturally grasp the different cultural values of their society. There is no concrete theory of where the Etruscans originated but they lived between the 7th and 3rd centuries BC. An mtDNA study completed in 2013 stated that the Etruscans were most likely an indigenous population. Another study completed six years earlier in 2007, hypothesized that they showed no similarities genetically to specimens from the near east, which vaguely could disprove one of the two most popular theories about the Etruscans heritage. Regarding the Etruscans there are two theories that hint towards who they were, and where they came from. As the system coordinator for Response to Intervention services, I witness firsthand the frustrations teachers experience with this state mandated practice. One concern that has been shared with me is the lack of training that teachers are exposed to regarding implementing RTI. Teachers note that it appears to be a top down approach and little to no information makes it back to the classroom level. A second concern is how to find the time to implement intervention when there are strict guidelines to class scheduling, lack of funding, and no additional support personnel available, especially at the high school level. The intent of this study is to learn about teacher perceptions surrounding implementation of the Response to Intervention model. The focus will be on selected experienced teachers currently employed by the Valdosta City School system. The central questions to the study include but are not limited to the following: What knowledge do you have surrounding implementing RTI in your classroom? How is Response to Intervention practiced in your classroom? What research based practices are utilized in classrooms? How do you monitor a student s response to an intervention? What are some core issues with implementing RTI in classrooms? What supports are in place to meet ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
