Labelling or labeling is
describing someone or
something in a word or
short phrase [He described
him as “foolish,” but he
doesn't deserve
that label.]
STEREOTYPE - Stereotyping is when you judge a group of
people who are different from you based on your own
and/or others opinions and/or encounters (NEGATIVE – all
teenagers a rebels; men do not cry; POSITIVE –
Latinoamericans are great dancers, Franchmen are romantic;
PREJUDICES - The quality or
condition of judging someone or a
group of people before you meet
them, usually using stereotypes.
[racial, sexual, religious prejudices]
WHAT TO DO
1. Stay calm. Have ready a tricky answer.
2. Disarm opponents with honesty and
propriety.
3. Ask questions:
„What did you mean? How did you get to
this conclusion? Are you angry with me?”
3. Define your feelings using I-speech
„I hope you really does not mean it
because your words hurts me. I do not
want to listen to something like that
because it offends me? I suppose you did
not want to hurt me, but I do not feel
comfortable. I wish you get to know me
first and then bring your judgement.”
