Prehistory lasted millions of years from the first humans until the invention of writing. During this time, early humans started as hunter-gatherers but eventually learned agriculture and livestock farming during the Neolithic period. They also progressed from using stone tools to learning metalworking and using metals like copper, bronze and iron during the Late Metal Age.
