 The present construction methodology for
buildings calls for the best aesthetic look, high
quality and fast construction, cost effective and
innovative touch.
 Technological improvement over the year has
contributed immensely to the enhancement of
quality of life through various new products and
services.
 One such revolution was the PEB.
 A growing number of prominent International
contractors and designers ,who previously specified
conventional structural steel buildings exclusively, have
recently converted to the PEB approach.
 They now enjoy significant cost saving and benefits
from the faster construction cycle resulting from this
concept.
 Pre-Engineered Building concept involves the steel
building systems which are predesigned and
prefabricated.
 Conventional steel buildings (CSB) are low rise steel
structures with roofing systems of truss with roof
coverings.

STRUCTURE
WEIGHT
PEB is almost 10-15% lighter
compared to conventional
construction due to efficient
design and integral framing
system.
Use of standard hot rolled
sections result in heavy
steel structure and
comparatively
overdesigned
structure.
FOUNDATION Being light structure
foundation size and design is
lighter and simpler.
Corporately heavy
foundation design
resulting
higher cost.
Seismic
resistance
The low weight flexible frames
offer higher resistance to
seismic force.
Rigid heavy structures
do not perform well in
seismic zones.
Delivery Average 6 to 8 weeks. Average 5 to 6 months.
Erection Easy, fast, step by step. Erection
costs & time are accurately
known, based upon extensive
experience with similar buildings.
Slow, extensive field
labor required. Typically
20% more expensive than
a normal PEB building. In
most of the cases, the
erection costs and time
are not estimated
accurately.
Architecture Outstanding architectural design
at low cost.
Special architectural
design requires research
and high cost.
Performance All components have been
specified and designed specially
to act together as a system for
maximum efficiency and peak
performance in the field.
Components are custom
designed for a specific
application on a specific
job. Design and detailing
errors are possible when
assembling the diverse
components into unique
buildings.
Overall Price Price per square meter may be as
much as 40% lower than
conventional steel.
High price per square
meter.
Responsibility Single source of supply results in
total responsibility for one
supplier, including design liability.
Multiple responsibilities
can result in questions of
who is responsible when
components do not fit
properly, insufficient
material supplied, or
materials fail to perform,
particularly at supplier
interfaces. The consultant
carries total design
liability.

Pre engineered buildings vs conventional steel buildings

  • 2.  The present construction methodology for buildings calls for the best aesthetic look, high quality and fast construction, cost effective and innovative touch.  Technological improvement over the year has contributed immensely to the enhancement of quality of life through various new products and services.  One such revolution was the PEB.
  • 3.  A growing number of prominent International contractors and designers ,who previously specified conventional structural steel buildings exclusively, have recently converted to the PEB approach.  They now enjoy significant cost saving and benefits from the faster construction cycle resulting from this concept.  Pre-Engineered Building concept involves the steel building systems which are predesigned and prefabricated.  Conventional steel buildings (CSB) are low rise steel structures with roofing systems of truss with roof coverings.

PROPERTY PRE-ENGINEERED BUILDINGS (PEB) CONVENTIONAL STEEL BUILDINGS QUALITY Fully finished products in ready to erect condition reaches at site involving absolutely no welding, cutting etc. at site and assembly is only done by bolting. All fabrication work at site involving lot of wastage of material and loss of quality. TIME SAVING Completely factory made/shop fabricated system resulting significant saving in time and superior quality. Site fabrication requires a lot of infrastructure facilities and involves more time resulting in delays in project implementation.

SINGLE SOURCE Entire product range of roofing, structure, mezzanine, staircases , beams, doors, windows, Ventilations, insulations everything is easily available in stock from single source supply in finish condition. To procure from 10-15 sources from local market results in non- compatibility. Needs lot of coordination with several agency which costs time and money. STRUCTURE WEIGHT PEB is almost 10-15% lighter compared to conventional construction due to efficient design and integral framing system. Use of standard hot rolled sections result in heavy steel structure and comparatively overdesigned structure.
  • 6. FOUNDATION Being light structure foundation size and design is lighter and simpler. Corporately heavy foundation design resulting higher cost. Seismic resistance The low weight flexible frames offer higher resistance to seismic force. Rigid heavy structures do not perform well in seismic zones. Delivery Average 6 to 8 weeks. Average 5 to 6 months.
  • 7. Erection Easy, fast, step by step. Erection costs & time are accurately known, based upon extensive experience with similar buildings. Slow, extensive field labor required. Typically 20% more expensive than a normal PEB building. In most of the cases, the erection costs and time are not estimated accurately. Architecture Outstanding architectural design at low cost. Special architectural design requires research and high cost. Performance All components have been specified and designed specially to act together as a system for maximum efficiency and peak performance in the field. Components are custom designed for a specific application on a specific job. Design and detailing errors are possible when assembling the diverse components into unique buildings.
  • 8. Overall Price Price per square meter may be as much as 40% lower than conventional steel. High price per square meter. Responsibility Single source of supply results in total responsibility for one supplier, including design liability. Multiple responsibilities can result in questions of who is responsible when components do not fit properly, insufficient material supplied, or materials fail to perform, particularly at supplier interfaces. The consultant carries total design liability.
