This document compares pre-engineered steel buildings to conventional steel buildings. Pre-engineered buildings are lighter weight, quicker to design and construct, and have lower overall costs than conventional steel buildings. They use tapered primary framing members and light gauge secondary members that are roll-formed into Z- or C- shapes. This allows for more efficient use of materials. Pre-engineered buildings also have standardized connections and components that simplify design, fabrication, shipping, erection and future expansions.
