French And Indian War Turning Point Essay
The French and Indian War Turning Point
During the French and Indian War, many things changed like the forced quartering of soldiers, the
end of salutary neglect, and self government, while the colonies not wanting to unite, the feeling of
not being represented in parliament from the colonists, and the neglect of a redress of the colonists
grievances from the king stayed the same. In the colonies, before the French and Indian war, life
was good. Things were simple in Britain s relationship with the colonies, they traded with each
other and Britain gave salutary neglect to the colonists trading with people they were not supposed
to trade with. Everybody was happy and taxes were limited, and internal taxing was not something
Britain did. Mercantilism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The colonists were mad at the king because he forced them to fight in a war they did not want
part it. During the war, which we had already been fighting, the king had impressed us into the
British army and we were forced to leave behind our families and fight in the war. And when the
war was finished, we were forced to pay for the war expenses through internal taxes. The king
had not internally taxed us in over a century, so the taxes worsened the crack. In a time of peace,
there were standing soldiers kept in the colonies, which lead to the Boston massacre. All these
were made okay because of the acts in which Parliament passed. The quartering act forced us to
provide housing and supplies to soldiers who began taking away the jobs in the colonies. The
Stamp Act forced us to have to pay taxes on everything paper, including cards and dice. The tea act
put excessive taxes on tea. All of these taxes were imposed soon after the war, which made the
colonists upset. But what upset them even more was that they did not have anybody from the
colonies elected into Parliament, making them feel like they were not represented the way they
should be. The intolerable acts were also implemented, which threatened their self government, so
they fought back against Britain by creating the Continental Congress. After a few meetings of the
Continental Congress, the colonies then decided to unite and declare independence from

Kurt Cobain Analysis
Representation is the description or portrayal of someone or something in a particular way. How
have the texts you have chosen provide a representation of the person you have researched? What
element/s of bias have affected this representation?
Artist, poet, american musician and for the most part an influential icon of grunge this was who Kurt
Cobain was, as he was an inspiration to many for his talent, passion and beliefs around social
constructs. The representation of a person effects the way they influence other people and in Kurt s
case the world. Some of the factors that contributed to Kurt s influence was his lyrics in his music,
the impact on his audiences both at live performances and interviews.
Personal differences is shown in Kurt Cobain s documentary as they use the technique of
exposition which is used at the beginning the film. The documentary uses specific segments to
persuade us and gives us a chance evaluate and develop our own understanding of who he was.
This documentary shows that although Kurt was a musician, his music was an acquired taste, a
blend of punk, metal and grunge music. He talked about many controversial topics such as drugs,
alienation, death and even sexual violence. The many parents of the youth questioned if their
children should not listen to those types of topics in songs whereas other parents were more open
to the education Kurt s songs were giving. This was not generally your love song genre but it

Literary Devices In Middlemarch
In Middlemarch, George Eliot utilizes several literary devices to portray her two characters and
their complex relationship that reveals their marriage is dominated by the husband who objectifies
his wife into silence. Throughout the passage, Eliot makes it clear that Rosamond and Tertius
Lydgate are in an uneven relationship, considering Tertius refuses to listen to his wifewho seems to
only have his best interest at heart, yet still, he continues to yell at her for thinking she knows
what is best for him. With the help of details, Tertius s critical tone, and imagery, Eliot is able to
showcase how complex their relationship is when it comes to Rosamond giving her opinions and
ideas, just to be casted to the side. In several parts of the passage, Eliot hints that Rosamond loves
her husband, however, is constantly disciplined by Tertius when she speaks up on his actions. With
her selection of details, it exemplifies the complexities of the couple s marriageand how as a
newlywed, their life together is only just beginning, yet already, Rosamond is getting cold feet.
This is asserted when it states, the thought in her mind was that if she had known how Lydgate
would behave, she would never have married him (77 79). Eliot explains how Rosamond is
doubting Tertius s lovefor her, considering the fact he is always making her feel inferior to him.
Certain details such as Rosamond being sensitive and a young creature who had known nothing but
indulgence and whose

The Constitutionality Of Capital Punishment
A major discussion and legal issue that has been the topic of major debates across the world is the
legality of Capital Punishment. Capital Punishment, also known as the death penalty, is defined as
the legally authorized killing of someone as a punishment for committing a crime (Oxford, n.d.).
The issue has been undecided by the federal government, which gives the states the right to
determine their own laws on the issue. Some states have outlawed the death penalty while others
still use this practice to this day. In the state of Maryland the death penalty was used for hundreds
of years before it was recently outlawed in a bill passed by the state legislature. The passing of the

In the Eighth Amendment, there is a section called the Cruel and Unusual Punishment Clause. This
states that the punishment for a crime can t be inhumane and it must be fitting to the crime. For
example, you can t put someone to death for stealing an apple. Because of this Amendment the
death penalty is heavily debated as a fitting and humane way of dealing with capital crimes.
Pro Capital Punishment People who support Capital punishment in the State of Maryland were
not happy about its repeal in 2013. Some delegates were not in favor of the repeal and voted
against it. Some of them believed that we should not completely abolish the death penalty
because there are extreme cases that could call for it. Delegate Smigiel said I have grave
concerns about the state having the power of life and death over other people, but there are
circumstances where that s the only penalty that s appropriate for a crime (Dresser, 2013). They
believe that we should still keep it in place for extreme situations such as the Boston Marathon
Massacre, and the killing of correctional officers. While the people who are advocates for the death
penalty did not like the ruling, they had the opportunity to sign petitions in order to stop the passing
of the repeal bill. But they did not reach the number of signatures needed to stop the bill. This
shows that they did not have enough support to say that they did not

What Is The Theme Of Hope In Natasha Preston s The Cellar
The novel, The Cellar, by Natasha Preston, is a mysterious, suspenseful and eerie book that
keeps readers guessing throughout the entire read. The story takes place in a small town in
England where hardly any crime happens. Due to the overall safe feeling of the small town,
Summer, the main character, does not feel unsafe when walking alone at night. She states, Our
town was probably actually definitely the most boring place on earth; nothing even remotely
interesting ever happened (4). However, this is how the trouble began. The basic plot begins
when Summer leaves for a gig she had gotten and gets abducted by a man named Clover. He takes
her back to his house and locks her in a finished Cellar with three other girl and assigns them names

Despite the violence and grim that Summer is put through, she never gives up hope of being

constantly looking for any glimpse of escape. She repeatedly tells the other girls that her family
will find them saying Lewis will find me. He will never give up (143). Through her character,
Preston is able to demonstrate how people can stay strong despite the situations they are put in.
Summer shows how hope can get you through any obstacle despite the severity of the situation. The
Cellar is a eye opening and suspenseful novel. Preston s writing is one that keeps the reader on
their feet. I would definitely recommend this novel to anyone who wanted a story to keep them
guessing. Preston does a great job telling the girls stories in the cellar as well as giving many
different perspectives of what is happening. Her writing style and the story she generates is very
unique and gives the reader a glimpse into a twisted and corrupted world. Overall, out of the
many books I have read, I would say that this is one of my favorite reads and would recommend it

The Psychological Disorder Of Depression
The human brain is one of the most important organs in your body. A lot of research has been
done on it and there are many things that still remain a mystery. The mind gives us the capability
to think and act; without it we would not be able to function. The mind is so advanced that it
can rewire itself and adapt to new situations. This paper will explore and discuss the film Girl
Interrupted (1996) by exploring the psychological disorder of depression. Depression is a mood
disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest (mayoclinic.org). When
discussing depression, Patty from Girl Interrupted will be mentioned, the way society deals with
depression will be discussed, and treatments for the psychological disorder will also be given.
Depression is very common among the population and it does not discriminate against gender or
ethnicity. There are many theories to why depression arises: faulty mood regulation by the brain,
genetic vulnerability, stressful life events, medications, and medical problems
health.Harvard.edu). Chemicals in the brain are also responsible for causing depression. One can
have too much of one chemical and not enough of the other which causes an unbalance in the
brain. Depression is one of the most common illness worldwide, Globally, more than 350 million
people of all ages suffer from depression (Who.int), but women are more prone to be impacted by
this psychological disorder.Polly was a character in Girl Interrupted

Lysistrata Essay
Women have always been down played throughout history and always had to fall below men.
The play Lysistrata by Aristophanes is great play that shows the first time women started taking
a stand against men for equal rights. The adaptation that I saw of lysistrata in San Francisco
State School of Theater and Dance, my seat cost 17 dollars and my seat number was 107. I
chose this because I believed it was the best seat to look at the play. The person who attended the
play with me was my close friend Sabrina who loves plays. The Audience for the play including
myself and Sabrina was very demographically populated, the whole entire room was full of people.
Lysistratais a bawdy anti war comedy staged in 411 BCE, this play was believed to be one of
Aristophanes greatest works as it takes to account that a woman took upon herself to end the
peloponnesian war, by convincing women to take mens sexual privileges in order to start a
negotiation for peace.(Luke)
The duration of the play was about fifty minutes to one hour and the genre category I believe it fell
under was a comedy. The play s duration is no coincidence as it was framed to fall in this specific
time zone because they are perfect for school assemblies and social gatherings as well. The genre of
the play like its discussed in chapter 2 what is a play states genre lets you know if the play fits you

Use Of Illusion And Hide Reality Plays A Heavy Role On...
The use of illusion to hide reality plays a heavy role in William Shakespeare s Othello . Illusion is
used frequently throughout the play in relation to love, friendship and character personalities. Some
characters, especially Othello, cannot see through the illusion and assume what they see as reality.
Iago, however, uses this to his advantage by creating multiple illusions to manipulate the other
characters for power and revenge.
Iago is seen by most of the characters as an honest and trustworthy man who is always willing to
listen and give advice. Cassio, one of the characters who is fooled by the illusionary personality
Iago has created, says I never knew/ a Florentine more kind and honest (III.i.38 39). The audience
however knows that this is not the case, since at the beginning he says I am not what I am (I.i.62),
meaning that he has created an illusion of himself to fool others into believing he is trustworthy.
Iago states I follow him to serve my turn upon him (I.i.39), meaning that he only pretends to be
loyal to Othello, acting as a good servant so that when the opportunity arises, Othello will not
suspect him of sabotaging his marriage. Throughout the entire play, he pretends to be Othello s
friend, feigning reluctance in voicing his suspicions about an affair between Desdemona and Cassio.
He gains Othello s trust by being a good friend who is honest enough to tell him such horrible
news. Iago creates the illusion of the affair by filling Othello s mind

Action Research Literature Review
Executive Summary
Action Research believes that Human organizations can only be understood as whole entities
(Baskerville, 1999) and that social processes are best to be studied when change is introduced to
observe the effects of these. Furthermore, It makes use of a cyclical approach in order for an initial
holistic understanding of a social setting. The action research literature has strongly challenged the
character of positivism. It is believed that this type of research is derived from a different
ontological basis; it tends to a humanistic social practice rather than a traditional natural science.
Lewin started with the term В‘action research . His approach to the process is composed of a circle

Interpretivism beliefs that the world is socially constructed and subjective, that the observer is part
of the what is observed and that science is driven by human interest. Furthermore, interpretivism,
like action research, tries to understand what actually is happening by looking at the totality of each
situation.
Positivism is a research philosophy that involves working with the observable social reality. The
emphasis is on highly structured methodology to facilitate replication, and the end product can be
law like generalisations similar to those produced by the physical and natural scientists (Saunders,
2003). The basic beliefs are that the world can be seen as an external and objective object where
the observer remains independent. The action research literature has strongly challenged the
character of В‘positivist research (Waterman et al, 2001; Hart, 1996; Susman and Evered, 1978).
These can be summarised as follows:
В§The impossibility of achieving the assumption of objectivity in research findings and outcomes
as well as the ability to control a limited number of research variables.
В§A critique of the notion of researchers attaining a detached/value free/neutral position and a
recognition of the existence of oppressive ideologies and vested interests;
В§A questioning of a В‘scientific approach and the features of generalisability,

The therapeutic effects of music have been demonstrated through numerous accounts, yet the
examination of the extent of its capabilities has thus far been neglected. Music has certainly
provided aid to individuals suffering from a number of ailments such as cancer, but these
benefits may also be extended to people who do not necessarily require such assistance.
Moreover, the beneficial effects music can have on critical areas such as sleep can significantly

quality over time compared to those who did not receive any music. (Leepeng). However while
overall improvement in sleep quality was observed, only two of the six PSQI sleep components

provided better test scores across all six areas of sleep quality compared to the control,
significant improvement was seen only in sleep duration and sleep efficiency (Leepeng).
Nevertheless, a decrease in the number of poor sleepers within the experimental group decreased
over time as, In the pretest, 68.9% were poor sleepers, which declined to 6.7% by the end of the
experiment. Although 6.7% of the subjects were still poor sleepers at Time 4, their global sleep
quality scores showed an improvement over time (Leepeng). Essentially, while specific components
of sleep quality did not show significant improvements, the overall results suggest the use of
background music has an appreciable effect on global sleep

The Incarnation Of Jesus The Christ
Christopher Davis
THE380 Christ Church
Integrative/ Research Essay 2
March 17, 2015
Interpretation: The Incarnation of Jesus the Christ Over 2,000 years there has been endless
debates pertaining to Jesus the Christ. The main issue is how a man can be truly divine and fully
human? It seems paradoxical because of the combination of two separate natures, but it is a unique
act of forgiveness by God. There are in fact clues to show how and, why Jesus is in fact fully divine
along with fully human. There are links that trace Jesus historically. Due to these historic biblical
resources, it makes understanding the divine subdivision of Jesus hard to understand. How does
one come to terms with the fully divine side of Jesus? Is it only mythicized biblical texts or devout
faith in the biblical tradition?
There is no definite way to prove history because there is no way to go back in time. But there
are clues within biblical text to show the humanity of Jesus. The first trace of evidence to show
that Jesus was fully human is displayed in the Gospel of John. The word became flesh (John 1:14).
This is evidence to show that Jesus took on the logos; which brings God s word, and will into
humanity directly. Indication shows that Jesus exhibited human traits such as emotion. Jesus
offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears (Hebrews 5:7) Jesus was fleshly, and
maintained human qualities that were hard to deny. More evidence that proved the incarnation of

Minimum Age Of Criminal Responsibility In England And Wales
This essay will look to explore and discuss the minimum age of criminal responsibility in
England and Wales and see if the minimum age should be brought into line with the rest of
Europe or not. The first thing to look at is the current age of criminal responsibility which is set at
10 years of age. (https://www.gov.uk/age of criminal responsibility). Looking at the law, the age of
10 seems to have been chosen on numerical grounds and belief that crimebecomes too popular at
the age of eleven. This was despite recommendation from the penal reform international which
argued that children under 12 should not be punished and the age should be increased, with a
potential rise to fourteen. (http://www.penalreform.org/wp content/uploads/2013/05/justice for
children briefing 4 v6 web_0.pdf). In recent years the boldness and humour towards young
offenders is high, due to an extensive public awareness of growth around youth crime and the
death of James Bulger by Robert Thompson and Jon Venable, who were 10 at the time of the killing.

Metaphors Analysis in Sylvia Plath s Poem Essay
Metaphors Analysis in Sylvia Plath s Poem
In Sylvia Plath s poem, Metaphors, she uses striking imagery to explore her ambivalent attitudes
about pregnancy. For example, she uses a negative metaphor saying she is an elephant, meaning she
thinks that she has become very fat since she got pregnant. On the other hand, she uses a positive
metaphor saying the baby is precious, meaning although pregnancy has its down sides it has got a
few good sides like the baby.
The number nine features a lot throughout the poem. For instance the title, Metaphors, has nine

Also, the words strolling and tendrils give the reader an image of a woman, who s really obese,
who has small legs that you can hardly see, plus she can t walk properly because she is weighed
down by all her fat and they might collapse at any second.
In the first three lines the feeling is very negative, yet in line four the feeling becomes much more
positive because she starts talking about her baby. When the narrator says O red fruit she is saying
that the baby is really precious to her like a red fruit. Also, the narrator says the baby is like ivory
which is very precious and it s a light material. It is elephant s tusks as well; this is a very effective
image because she compares herself to an elephant so the baby is like her tusks. And fine timbers
is like the baby s structure because it is very fragile.
In the fifth line the mood changes yet again to negative because the narrator starts talking abut
herself more. When she says this loaf s big with its yeasty rising the reader gets an image of her
stomach growing bigger and bigger without stopping like yeast in a loaf of bread.
In line six the narrator says money s new minted in this fat purse , the start of the sentence, which
is a positive metaphor, she is saying that the baby is brand new, important and that it is precious
like money. In contrast, fat purse is a negative metaphor because

The Positive Impact Of Technology
Technology has evolved over the years, improving in fields such as medicine, computer
programming, business, and the list goes on. It has opened up a number of jobs and work
opportunities and helped make society more efficient. The human brain has also benefited a great
deal, due to fast paced research and new ways to improve and present creativity skills, using
different pieces of technologyand search engines. There are some downsides to technology and
the wide growth of it, while some problems are created through the misuse of it and how others
take advantage of it. However, technology really has more of a positive impact than anything,
because it has made society and people work more efficiently, opened up new work opportunities,
helped our brains think more in depth and helped people become more creative, and has really
made an impact in medicine.
People and society in general has improved in the sense that they work more efficiently.
According to Yuki Noguchi, a journalist for NPR news, reported that The advance of tablets and

San Francisco 1915
San Francisco 1915 Palace of Fine Arts The Palace of Fine Arts was one of the finest buildings
constructed for the 1915 Panama Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco. It was one
of the most important symbols of the fair, situated near its center, at the end of the axis on which
were located the Courts of the Four Seasons and of the Universe at the center, and the Court of
Abundance, with the Machinery Palace framing the other side. The Palace was designed by a
well known local architect, Bernard Maybeck (b. New York, New York 1882; d. Berkeley,

The center of the arch was placed behind the rotunda, so that the two were not aligned in
concentric rings. This allowed a wider arch to be built in the same space, giving it a grander

source and measuring 4 by 6 inches, as well as in the third and fourth images, which are

California 1915 (7 in. x 11 in.) There were ochre columns, topped by boxes, mixed with pale
green ones. The boxes were originally meant to house small trees and hanging vines, but these
were not planted for budgetary reasons. At each corner of the boxes stood statues of women
looking inwards, sculpted by Ulric Ellerhusen. They were meant to represent the melancholy of
life without art. The colonnades stood along the side of the lagoon, as can be seen in the second
image, with the reflection of the tranquil water adding a pleasant element. Along the side of the
walkway in the pergola was a garden of small trees and shrubbery. Plants were present everywhere
in the Palace, along the pergola and the rotunda, befitting the theme of a decaying ruin, overrun by
nature. According to Maybeck, it is the water and the trees that people came to see (Macomber, 23).
The natural scenery was integral to his design. The combination of majestic

Pros And Cons Of Violent Role Playing Game Dilemmas
The VIolent Role Playing Game Dilemma
All of us must have seen the Las Vegas shooting news yesterday. A gunman shot down over 50
people from his hotel room across the street, and injured countless more. When something like
this happens, we can t help but wonder what would make someone do something so awful like
that. I don t know what it is, but I do know the violent role playing games sweeping up our country
s youth is not helping. It is making these kids into aggressive monsters who think killing is fun in
games. Teens should not be allowed to playviolent role playing games because there was a mass
shooting the same week as the Grand Theft Auto V release, it is creating new criminals, and it
makes them more aggressive.
These violent role playing games are games kids should not be allowed to play. The gameGTA V is
an open world game where players rob cars, torture people, and go to strip clubs. In the week of
May 18th 2013, GTA V was released and there was a mass shooting in Washington D.C. that
killed dozens of people, according to Erik Kain. I think there is a definite correlation between
these two events. We are talking about a game that encourages you to shoot and abuse people.
Millions of copies of this game are sold every year. This means millions of people now think its fun
to kill people. They think it s okay to kill. This is not the kind of image we want to be instilling in
teens these days. Now, all the video games are becoming more and more lifelike. Some

Punishment In Scarlet Letter
People that commit the same sinful act can have different punishments. In The Scarlet Letter
written by Nathaniel Hawthorne, he writes about a new Puritan colony in North America. The
Puritans belief in a Christian god was very strong and the community had extreme faith in their
church officials. In this colony, anyone who was believed to have committed a sin was punished
harshly. The colony s top reverend Arthur Dimmesdale commits an act of adultery with a
beautiful woman Hester Prynne and have a daughter named Pearl. Hester was publicly shamed in
a scaffold in the marketplace of the colony and also has to bear a scarlet letter A on her chest
representing her sin. During this, Dimmesdale becomes ill and is treated by a physician who is

Examine and compare the ways in which Pat Barker in Regeneration and
Wilfred Owen in his poetry explore the nature of life in the trenches.
Pat Barker and Wilfred Owen are both successful writers in delivering an insight into trench life
from the perspective of a soldier, although in different ways. Owen, being a soldier himself, has
had first hand experience of trench life and describes the pity of war, in that war is a waste of
young, innocent lives, and the bitterness of the soldiers towards the people who do not have to
fight. Whereas
Barker recreates trench life through the nightmares, hallucinations and memories of the soldiers.
Despite the fact that Barker is a modern woman writer she still manages to write a realistic ... Show

Owen describes how the waiting for the inevitable keeps the soldiers awake as the night is silent
and this is worse than the noise of activity. All these soldiers have to do is wait and wonder what
are we doing here? But nothing happens. In the sixth stanza Owen refers to the ghosts drag home
almost suggesting that the soldiers are alone, not even their spirits can survive the emptiness of the
trenches. To begin with, the images in the poem appear to contrast with those in Regeneration as we
see Sassoon looking forward to sleeping in clean whit sheets, although we realise that he feels
guilty that he can enjoy this luxury and his comrades cannot. He says to Graves as he is seeing
him off at the station Dottyville is almost bearable knowing you don t have to be vomited on, this
gives us an insight into the physical well being of some of the soldiers.
After Graves has gone Sassoon hates everybody, giggling girls, portly middle aged men, women
whose eyes settled on his wound stripe like flies indicating his bitterness towards anybody that
didn t have to fight and especially towards people who appeared to have done well out of the war.
This is the same attitude displayed towards shirkers and pacifists. In regeneration when Mr. Prior
comes to Craiglockhart and find Billy unable to speak, he is convinced that his speech comes when

Californian Sea Lions have roamed the docks of San Francisco, California for over 25 years

Dear Parents (and older siblings who think they are parents) of Rising Seniors,
This process will be long and arduous for you. In my opinion, this marks a transition in the
relationship with your sons. Prior to the process, you led and guided your child. After the process,
you will have to have faith that your child absorbed your teachings. The process is the shift from
one to another. It is the first time when parents must ceed control to their sons. You can make this
process a living hell for your son or you can make it a living purgatory. First, this is not your

them in making their choice. To explain, I will provide a metaphor: Open your child s eyes, but do
not instruct them where to look. They will be receiving tons of information and you may need to

not to sway them towards one school or another.

Persuasive Essay On The Effect Of Volunteering
Everyone has their own unique struggles and deals with those struggles in their own unique ways.
Personally, the limitations in my ability to communicate comfortably inhibited my day to day life.
In my mind, talking to strangers, and even those closest to me, felt like an enormous obstacle that
I would never get past. Every conversation led me to believe that the people I was speaking with
were judging me. The situation became even worse when I started to believe that anyone that even
glanced in my direction thought of me negatively, and my suspicion that if I glanced at someone,
they were most certainly going to stare at me, did not help matters any. To rid myself of the

When I was diagnosed with general anxiety disorder roughly a year ago, the reason behind my lack
of interpersonal skills became more clear, and I was able to use volunteering at the local soup

The Deforestation Of The Amazon Rainforest
A real life example of a social dilemma is the deforestation of the amazon rainforest. In the early
2000 s rapid industrialisation, immense scales of agriculture and other economic activities led
to 20% of the territory being destroyed. The scale of destruction particularly, within Brazil was
so large; NASA released an image confirming the effects were detectable from space, (Winter,
2014) Many of the contributing parties to the problem included, developers, subsistence farmers,
cattle ranchers, mining/quarrying, colonising and paper producers, (Butler, 2006). Let us take the
later example; paper producers that became tempted by mass production felled for self interest
would have significantly risked depletion of the forest. The consequences would have been
potentially catastrophic, the millions of species that the rainforest holds would have lost their
habitats, (posing a risk of extinction) and 15% of the world s carbon would have been released,
(Scheer Moss, 2012). Without limits, lamentable freedoms of a common pool are what Hardin,
(1968) described as The tragedy of the commons. Logically, the collective interest of all parties
called for minimal utilisation or withdrawal for long term benefits but free reign meant higher
profitability in the short term. Herein, lay the social dilemma, or more specifically common
resource dilemma. Social dilemmas have two fundamental properties: first, the temptation to serve
self interest receives a higher payoff

Essay on Economic Growth and Development
Economic growth is a necessary but not sufficient condition of economic development.
There is no single definition that encompasses all the aspects of economic development. The most
comprehensive definition perhaps of economic development is the one given by Todaro:
Development is not purely an economic phenomenon but rather a multi dimensional process
involving reorganization and re orientation of the entire economic and social system.
Development is a process of improving the quality of all human lives with three equally important
aspects. These are:
1. Raising peoples living levels, i.e. incomes and consumption, levels of food, medical services,
education through relevant growth processes.
2. Creating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Amartya Sen defines economic development in terms of personal freedom, freedom to choose
from a range of options. While economic growth may lead to an increase in the purchasing power
of people, if the country has a repressed economy, there is lack of choice and hence personal
freedom in restricted. Hence once again growth has taken place without any development.
While economic growth may result in an improvement in the standard of living of a relatively small
proportion of the population whilst the majority of the population remains poor. It is how the
economic growth is distributed amongst the population that determines the level of development.
Taking into consideration the trickle down theory of economics by
Lewis, if the growth in economy is not sufficient to satisfy the needs and wants of the upper
sections, nothing or very little shall trickle down to the lower sections in the hierarchy of society.
Thus, the gap between the rich and poor widens and though economic growth has impacted a
certain section of society, this cannot be considered development. Another example is an increase
in the defence output of a nation, which accounts for an increased GDP but does not in any way
contribute to economic development.
Economic growth is not enough in itself to measure economic development as even if there has
been a leap in the income of people in a particular nation,

The term is commonly applied to networks and servers. Server downtime, a period of time when the

The problem that arises most is memory errors, which happens 10 times out of the total 22. The
second utmost problem that arises is lockups, which occurred 6 times. Since the month of April has
4 weeks, Weekly virus scans occurred 4 times. Slow startup and manual restart occurred only once
per cause. The frequency distribution table can be used to construct a simple bar graph that
represents the data. The horizontal axis of the bar chart corresponds to the 5 problem experienced in
the frequency distribution table while the vertical axis corresponds to the frequency.
Following the frequency distribution and bar graph, further analysis must be done by using the last
set of data which is the downtime data. Downtime data is collected in minutes that vary from 10 to
60 minutes. Each occurrence out of the 22 has a certain number of downtime minutes. To make the

My Experience That Changed My Life
I have had many events in my life that have made a difference, however one event that has

The first song I am introducing on my soundtrack is Issues by Julia Michaels. Throughout Hannah
s life she had many issues she needed to overcome. During all the events Hannah was going

but that quickly changed within a few weeks of school. When Jessica slapped/scratched Hannah, it
was pretty clear that their friendshipwas over, but if they had resolved that issue and continue
being friends, could Hannah still be alive? Hannah needed a friend to talk about Tyler, Justin,
Bryce and many more, but she never got that. Two lines that stands out in the lyrics of the song

Throughout the song, the lyrics, Should I give up... Or should I just keep chasing pavements?...

thought about living her life and these lyrics show how she thought about advancing on. Chasing
the pavements of the streets are a perfect example of life going on and on, but depending on which

Manifelte Du SurrГ©alisme Meaning
In AndrГ© Breton s Manifeste du surrГ©alisme, the ways in which Surrealism can be applied to
both the artistic realm and everyday life are explored, as well as the importance placed on dreams.
Breton believed in la rГ©solution future de ces deux Г©tats, en apparence si contradictoires, que
sont le rГЄve et la realitГ©, en une sorte de rГ©alitГ© absolue, du surrГ©alitГ© (Breton and
Bonnet, 1988). Based on the assumption that Luis BuГ±uel and Salvador DalГ wished to remain
loyal to Breton s definition of Surrealism, it is likely that they understood the true functioning of
thought to mean that which is achieved through dreaming, for this was very much discussed in the
domains of art and psychoanalysis, and dreams, those which do not form a part of... Show more

The process of dreamwork involves the transformation, either through condensation, displacement
or distortion, of the latent content into manifest content . In Un Chien Andalou BuГ±uel and DalГ
present many situations lacking in reason, aesthetic and moral concern. These can be interpreted
according to this theory of the true functioning of the unconscious mind. In the opening scene of
Un Chien Andalou, a man is seen to slice open what appears to be the eye of a woman, with a
razor. This is done after a thin cloud is seen to pass over the moon. This semantically contrasting
change from one image to another is often present in dreams and can be seen throughout the film.
In these juxtaposed images BuГ±uel and DalГ show the razor mimic the movement of the cloud. If
this sequences of events from the film were to form part of a dream, this would explain the lack
of reason behind the man s actions and his lack of moral concern for the well being of the woman.
This ugly and disturbing image could be seen as the latent content before it is transformed into the
manifest content of the moon and cloud to prevent exposing the mind to violent ideas, if the
dreamer were the man performing the immoral act. Another similar pair of images which deals
with the lack of reason and aesthetic in dreams is the image of armpit hair turning into a sea urchin.
Here, we witness the scenario where

Slavery And Human Trafficking
The twentieth century has been a century of progress in almost every area of human rights. This
makes the persistence of slavery in today s world even more egregious. Even as laws banning
slavery and its prohibition are enshrined in international instruments, notably the Universal
Declaration of Human Rights, it is still practiced in many forms: traditional chattel slavery, bonded
labour, serfdom, child labour, migrant labour, domestic labour, forced labour and slavery for
ritual or religious purposes (Aronowitz, 3). The enslaving of humans has a history that date
back to the Roman Empire and ancient Greece. In the 15th century the Europeans traded African
Slaves. African slaves were the first slaves bought to the United States, even leading other
Africans to sell their own race. Slavery has taken on various forms of the span of 6,000 years.
Slavery is now referred to as human trafficking or modern day slavery . Forced labor is defined
as all work or service which is extracted from any person under the menace of any penalty and for
which the said person has not offered himself voluntarily (Aronowitz, 11). Not all persons in
forced labor are trafficked and not all trafficked persons are enslaved. Humans are taken from their
homes and stripped of their morals.
Human trafficking begins with trust. When one sees some type of value in you to become a
potential worker they will spare no expense in trying to earn your trust. They will promise you

Background: 1. The Charlotte Mecklenburg school system, which includes the city of
Charlotte, North Carolina, had more than 84,000 students in 107 schools in the 1968 1969

The Catalyst Archetype
With an even shorter arc than The Loyalist, The Catalyst inhibits the protagonist s Two Face
nature before disappearing and requesting something from the protagonist. The Catalyst is almost
always present whenever a Two Face archetype is present in a story, but cannot exist without the
Two Face. In Doki Doki Literature Club, the Catalyst is the protagonist s childhood friend, Sayori,
who eventually hangs herself. In The Picture of Dorian Gray, the Catalyst is Sybil Vane, who
eventually ingests poison and dies. For the plot to progress, The Catalyst must somehow disappear
from the story, though they might disappear in different ways or for different reasons. Both Sayori
and Sybil die by suicide, but complete suicide for different reasons. Sayori... Show more content on

A similarity between Sybil and Sayori is, before their death, both characters beg something from
the Two Face. Sybil begs Dorian Gray to give her another chance to act well if he does not leave
her. Sayori asks for the player to care for the other girls in the club and not care for her. The
archetype of The Catalyst slowly loses power over The Two Face, making the archetype appealing
to audiences and a good foundation for writers as a starting point for stories; however, the character
exhibiting the archetype must not remain in the story for too long else risking the piece boring the
audience. For Sayori and Sybil, their demise is their suicide, after believing the reaction from The
Player and Dorian is a punishment. Sybil s punishment is from disappointing Dorian with her bad
acting and Sayori s punishment is from sharing her depression and the player wanting to show
affection towards Sayori. While the circumstances of The Catalyst s punishment changes, the
ending result of the Catalyst s death drives the protagonist to develop their Two Face

Impact Of Globalization On Business And Foreign Markets
Globalization is economics that is worldwide and a powerful force. It is tendencies of business and
investing in domestic and foreign markets. The globalization strengthens the interconnections of
various markets. It is social and technological trends that shows policy changes. When looking at
economics worldwide one has to consider the history of trade, the relationship of tariffs, and the
standards in the industries.
International trade indicates a large part of the economic research of production growth. Market
size has grown from exports of a companies products. By exporting a company learns about the
foreign markets. The company may gain some expertise from feedback they obtain from the buyer.
This is called the learning by exporting theory.
The learning by export theory shows a link between the productivity and trade. It shows
improvements that is tied to the trades and resource reallocations. The theory relies on studies and
the cross industry with time variations within trade. This is a link between the countries. It can run
mock trails to find evidence of more productive in certain periods of time. For instance Egyptian
manufacturers of rugs may not have had as much opportunity to export their goods. Yet the
production levels increased as the rugs were later traded on the foreign market (Economic, 2016).
Such studies shows the improvements in productivity may not come from domestic reallocations.
Sometimes globalization can be an exaggeration in

The Handmaid s Tale Literacy Essay
ENG4U: The Handmaid s Tale Literacy Essay Shoshannah Lewis Margret Atwood s The
Handmaid s Tale takes place in the closely monitored, male dominant area of Gilead where
women are deprived of their sexual and human rights, forbidding them to live independently. For
many years prior to Gilead s existence, women were seen as inferior to men and neglected of
basic human rights such as voting, career opportunities, and equal salaries. The Republic of Gilead
was later introduced following the transition of the United States government into a totalitarian
leadership style, giving the government complete and all power amongst society. Very similar to
the second wave of feminism, where women fought for reproductive rights, women are doing so
in this near future setting of Gilead. In the novel, a future is revealed in which female fertility has
completely dwindled. Thus, women who are still fertile are labeled Handmaid s and are sent to
different upper class commanders for reproduction. With this being said, the fact that only certain
women are capable of reproduction forces completion amongst the sex due to the high sexual
standards society expects the female gender to meet. The novel follows a Handmaid by the name of
Offred, and her fight with sexual repression and exploitation of women within the corrupt Republic
of Gilead s. Atwood takes an alternative method of portraying feminism throughout this novel by
writing a stark contrast of feminism, portraying the women within The

How to Treat a Stained Tooth Fissure
Introduction
The morphological configuration of the occlusal surface of the first permanent molar is the most
vulnerable and susceptible tooth surface to dental decay and the incidence of caries on these
surfaces is still rising. There are occasions where the fissures of these teeth are stained and at the
time of deciding the appropriate treatment the question arises whether we should or we should not
treat them. When there are dentists that think that seal over a stained fissure is the right treatment
choice, there is evidence suggested by others that a stained fissure should not be treated as a sound
fissure.
There are teeth with questionable or suspicious occlusal surfaces, in which we can notice that
there have been changes from the clear sound fissures even without loss of surface and it is
dubious to decide whether or not it should be treated as it could be an incipient but not cavitated
fissure. A stained fissure means a fissure that is discoloured, brown or black, even an area of
white or opaque enamel where its normal translucidency is lost but it has no evidence of surface
breakdown (cavitation). Discoloured fissures does not necessary indicate an active caries process
and they may represent sounds surfaces (where the discolouration descends from organic material
trapped in the fissure) or non cavitated caries lesions (where the demineralised enamel has been
stained and possibly arrested).
It is doubtful if a discoloured fissure expresses generally a viable

Descriptive Essay On High School Band
As I cautiously make my way down the corridor on my first day of school I hear a strange noise
escaping one of the rooms. Although it sounds like a jumbled mess of instruments I am
intrigued, it is the band room and I know I ll be entering there soon. What I was not aware of is
how deeply being a part of high school band would shape me as a person. Looking back on that
time is almost surreal considering that I know have been in band up to senior year, have been a
section leader, and learningmore instruments than one.
Being a part of band has shown me that I am always part of something much larger than myself. It
is not always about me, and that is okay. Sometimes you re playing the melody or moving lines
and sometimes you re just playing a bunch of half notes. Learning this fact took a while because
for a long time when directors would say that my section wasn t important I would feel almost....
offended? But after almost eight years of playing in the band I have learned that it is okay to not be
the most important person in the room. In fact, it is often more fulfilling to be the one that helps lift
that person up.
Even the most important person in the room messes up and I have now seen that nobody is
perfect. Even the greatest player messes up on 16th note runs or have trouble counting lines. Band
has taught me that you shouldn t feel horrible about making mistakes, in fact you should embrace
them. My favorite quote is if you re going to mess up, own it , you should own

ISIS Terrorist Group Synthesis Essay
Violence and discrimination ravage the lives of thousands of Middle Eastern Christians. The
amount of support for the notorious ISIS terrorist group is surprisingly large in many of these
countries. 21% of people in Syria support ISIS and the more reformed Turkey even has 8% support
(Galka). These two countries alone amount to approximately 10 million ISIS supporters, not
accounting for the several other countries with similar support ( Countries in ). Although many
Christians and other religious minorities in the Middle Eastare harassed and even killed for their
faith, some legal reforms along with many non profit organizations are responding to this crisis.
In recent decades, the terrorist group known as ISIS emerged in the Middle East and has harassed
many Christians ever since. Before the emergence of this group, Iraq was home to the largely
diverse city of Mosul, but, in the summer of 2014[,] ISIS blitzkrieged its way into northern Iraq,

To elaborate, Middle Eastern countries would have to remove Islam from the governing power that
it currently has, and allow for a much more democratic republican (as in a governmental system,
not the republican party) system. This is the obvious, and much needed, solution for reforming
religious requirements. If religion is removed from government, then that allows for more
religious freedoms and creates an atmosphere for public opinion rather that Islamicaly based laws
and tyrannical power in the government. This must be done in order to end minority suffering in
the Middle East once and for all. If people around the world were to simply open their eyes and
demand reform, many lives would be saved and many livelihoods would be

Have you ever wondered what Bo Jackson could have done in his sports career if he would have

Social Construction Of Gender And Gender Roles
While observing interactions between people of both different and the same genders in the park at
Orange Circle, it becomes evident how the social construction of gender and standard gender roles
may or may not follow archetypal manner and can be applied differently depending on the
individuals. Some of the observations recorded during this period have provided evidence that
genderroles and gender stereotypes may be followed or applied in an archetypal way. However,
what is most interesting is that the observation of select individuals has delineated the manner
by which certain aspects of gender roles are shown to be subverted, challenged, or even
reversed. Based on these observations, it can be surmised that people may have a choice in the
ways in which the social construction of gender does and does not apply to their lives. As was
stated in the introduction, some of the interactions recorded during the observation showed the
ways in which socially constructed gender roles are reinforced. This is best exemplified by the
interaction between two small children, a girl and a boy, who were playing by the fountain located
in the center of the park. The young boy can be described as exhibiting rather aggressive behaviors
that include but are not limited to pushing and shoving, throwing objects, and shouting. In contrast,
the young girl behaves in a much more submissive manner, reacting to the boy s actions by
giggling, smiling and squealing. This example provides

Risk In Projects The Total Tool Set
Eyes Wide Shut (without Nicole and Tom to help)
Many project mangers, when first introduced to risk management, feel that there is something
macho about undertaking high risk projects without a net and that formal risk management is a
sign of weakness. Secretly, I guess that we all identify somewhat with Indiana Jones as he plunges
from disaster to disaster just surviving by good luck and sheer guts. The good news is that if you ...

If you lived in an apartment next to the building in which you work, the risk involved in getting
to work on time is many times lower than that facing a person with a 20 mile commute involving
driving to the station, getting kids to school, taking a pre work study course and public transport.
The second process in risk management is the process of Risk Reduction, Minimization or
Containment. This process involves planning and action to reduce the risks and, if that is not
possible, to introduce strategies to minimize the impact of failure. To manage the risks in our
commute, we could reduce risk by moving closer to work, obtaining flexible working hours or
undertaking community and political action to improve public transport. Contingency planning
such as having alternative routes or transport would be part of this process. The third and fourth
processes of Risk Management are the Risk Monitoring and Risk Reporting of the status of risks
[particularly High risk factors], the identification of new risk factors that have emerged during the
project and reports on the effectiveness of containment strategies. In our commute example, risk
monitoring would involve watching the clock and for traffic snarls. Risk reporting could be
calling work to say you ll be late and to inform your work colleagues of potential delays for other
colleagues. Risk management also involves the evaluation and management of the impact of failure

The Contemporary Code Of Chivalry In Marie De France
Marie de France wrote a collection of poems during the high middle ages that reflect the
contemporary code of chivalry. Her poetry was classified as courtly love because it mostly
involved knights in adulterous relationships with noble ladies. Her collection of twelve poems
have themes of love, loyalty, etc. and how they relate to the codes of chivalry that serves as a
guide for how a knight should act in order to be honorable. The code of chivalry was created to
make warfare among European knights more pleasant. They would give each other time to prepare
for fights and treated knights they captured as guests that had to pay a ransom rather than prisoners.
Following these rules gave knights more honor, which they held in very high esteem. This code
included different values that should characterize a honorable knight. Another way to achieve this
honor was by dedicating themselves to a noble lady who they would serve with faithful adoration.
This concept was the subject of Marie de Frances courtly lovepoetry. De France uses characters to
highlight the values of chivalry in her poems. For example, in the poem Lanval the knight by the
same name demonstrates generosity and hospitality as well as loyalty to his lord king Arthur.
Arthur however is envious of him and does not grant him the land or wealth he has earned. Here,
Marie is painting the hero of the story Lanval, as a chivalrous character while depicting king Arthur
as failing to properly serve his subject and thus is

The Theme Of Isolation In The Lamp At Noon And The Painted...
The two stories The Lamp At Noon by Sinclair Ross and The Painted Door by Sinclair Ross,
both deal with the theme isolation. This is significant because it reveals that in the two stories,
isolation had varied negative effects on each of the families. In the two stories, there is emotional
isolation that influences the characters in multiple different ways. In The Lamp At Noon Ellen is
driven insane by the loneliness she feels from the isolation which drives her to make the decision
to try to run away which results in the baby s death The child was quite cold. It had been her arms,

The story The Lamp At Noon is set in the 1930s while the Dust Bowl occurred. The Dust Bowl
was when in the Prairies the drought and winds were so intense that farmers could not grow
crops and the wind made the air hard to see through because of all the dust the dust was
thickening to an impenetrable fog (73). The setting provided physical isolation to Ellen, Paul,
and the baby. The story The Painted Door is set in the 1930s while a snowstorm occurred. The
snowstorm provides isolation from the outside for Ann considering she could not leave her
house during the storm She went to the window, and thawing a clear place in the frost with her
breath, stood looking across the snow swept farmyard to the huddle of stables and sheds. (340).

Mood Of The Tell Tale Heart
Edgar Allen Poe is a widely known writer from the 1800s. Poe aimed at creating a definite
emotional effect and mood in both poetry and short stories. Poe s goal was to make readers feel
horror of premeditated death and, or profound sadness. Edgar Allen Poe s style is characterized
by his use of sound imagery, irony, repeated elements which he uses to create an emotional effect
for his readers. Poe s style is shown by his use of sound imagery in his short storyThe Tell Tale
Heart. In this short story Poe uses the simile, a low, dull, quick sound, such as a watch makes
when enveloped in cotton, to describe the old man s heartbeat. The emotional effect Poe wants
readers to feel in The Tell Tale Heart is horror of premeditated death. The sound of the old man s

Bend It Like Beckham Analysis
Bend It Like Beckham , directed by Gurinder Chadha is a 2002 comedic sports film, based in
London, England. The plot follows an athletic 18 year old girl; Jesminder Bhamra and her strict
parents who detest Jess passion and love for playing soccer as it refutes their family s Indian
Sikh religious morals. Jess feels a lot of pressure and guilt throughout the film as she is
ultimately betraying her family, yet everyone in her team supports her, including the coach, Joe
who tries to convince Jess that her parents don t always know what s best for her. In every
family, there is often a distinct line between what a person wants to do and achieve, compared to
what their parents and family members expect of them. This clichГ© can be easily applied to
many of the characters including Tony Jess best pal, Juliet Paxton the player who suggested Jess
joined the local team and Jess with their conflicts between their families. Aside from being the
main character in the film, Jesminder suffers the worst conflict between her parents and family,
throughout the entire storyline. Despite her parent s wishes and concerns towards Jess passion,
she makes the decision to secretively continue to spend hours in the local park playing with other
passionate male players whenever she could spare the time. This soon brought on an offer from a
player from the local soccer team, who was amazed by Jess skills, and she soon joined the team, all
without her parent s knowing. As mentioned earlier,

  • 2. French And Indian War Turning Point Essay The French and Indian War Turning Point During the French and Indian War, many things changed like the forced quartering of soldiers, the end of salutary neglect, and self government, while the colonies not wanting to unite, the feeling of not being represented in parliament from the colonists, and the neglect of a redress of the colonists grievances from the king stayed the same. In the colonies, before the French and Indian war, life was good. Things were simple in Britain s relationship with the colonies, they traded with each other and Britain gave salutary neglect to the colonists trading with people they were not supposed to trade with. Everybody was happy and taxes were limited, and internal taxing was not something Britain did. Mercantilism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The colonists were mad at the king because he forced them to fight in a war they did not want part it. During the war, which we had already been fighting, the king had impressed us into the British army and we were forced to leave behind our families and fight in the war. And when the war was finished, we were forced to pay for the war expenses through internal taxes. The king had not internally taxed us in over a century, so the taxes worsened the crack. In a time of peace, there were standing soldiers kept in the colonies, which lead to the Boston massacre. All these were made okay because of the acts in which Parliament passed. The quartering act forced us to provide housing and supplies to soldiers who began taking away the jobs in the colonies. The Stamp Act forced us to have to pay taxes on everything paper, including cards and dice. The tea act put excessive taxes on tea. All of these taxes were imposed soon after the war, which made the colonists upset. But what upset them even more was that they did not have anybody from the colonies elected into Parliament, making them feel like they were not represented the way they should be. The intolerable acts were also implemented, which threatened their self government, so they fought back against Britain by creating the Continental Congress. After a few meetings of the Continental Congress, the colonies then decided to unite and declare independence from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Kurt Cobain Analysis Representation is the description or portrayal of someone or something in a particular way. How have the texts you have chosen provide a representation of the person you have researched? What element/s of bias have affected this representation? Artist, poet, american musician and for the most part an influential icon of grunge this was who Kurt Cobain was, as he was an inspiration to many for his talent, passion and beliefs around social constructs. The representation of a person effects the way they influence other people and in Kurt s case the world. Some of the factors that contributed to Kurt s influence was his lyrics in his music, the impact on his audiences both at live performances and interviews. Personal differences is shown in Kurt Cobain s documentary as they use the technique of exposition which is used at the beginning the film. The documentary uses specific segments to persuade us and gives us a chance evaluate and develop our own understanding of who he was. This documentary shows that although Kurt was a musician, his music was an acquired taste, a blend of punk, metal and grunge music. He talked about many controversial topics such as drugs, alienation, death and even sexual violence. The many parents of the youth questioned if their children should not listen to those types of topics in songs whereas other parents were more open to the education Kurt s songs were giving. This was not generally your love song genre but it represented kurt as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Literary Devices In Middlemarch In Middlemarch, George Eliot utilizes several literary devices to portray her two characters and their complex relationship that reveals their marriage is dominated by the husband who objectifies his wife into silence. Throughout the passage, Eliot makes it clear that Rosamond and Tertius Lydgate are in an uneven relationship, considering Tertius refuses to listen to his wifewho seems to only have his best interest at heart, yet still, he continues to yell at her for thinking she knows what is best for him. With the help of details, Tertius s critical tone, and imagery, Eliot is able to showcase how complex their relationship is when it comes to Rosamond giving her opinions and ideas, just to be casted to the side. In several parts of the passage, Eliot hints that Rosamond loves her husband, however, is constantly disciplined by Tertius when she speaks up on his actions. With her selection of details, it exemplifies the complexities of the couple s marriageand how as a newlywed, their life together is only just beginning, yet already, Rosamond is getting cold feet. This is asserted when it states, the thought in her mind was that if she had known how Lydgate would behave, she would never have married him (77 79). Eliot explains how Rosamond is doubting Tertius s lovefor her, considering the fact he is always making her feel inferior to him. Certain details such as Rosamond being sensitive and a young creature who had known nothing but indulgence and whose ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Constitutionality Of Capital Punishment A major discussion and legal issue that has been the topic of major debates across the world is the legality of Capital Punishment. Capital Punishment, also known as the death penalty, is defined as the legally authorized killing of someone as a punishment for committing a crime (Oxford, n.d.). The issue has been undecided by the federal government, which gives the states the right to determine their own laws on the issue. Some states have outlawed the death penalty while others still use this practice to this day. In the state of Maryland the death penalty was used for hundreds of years before it was recently outlawed in a bill passed by the state legislature. The passing of the Capital PunishmentRepeal in the state of Maryland was a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the Eighth Amendment, there is a section called the Cruel and Unusual Punishment Clause. This states that the punishment for a crime can t be inhumane and it must be fitting to the crime. For example, you can t put someone to death for stealing an apple. Because of this Amendment the death penalty is heavily debated as a fitting and humane way of dealing with capital crimes. Pro Capital Punishment People who support Capital punishment in the State of Maryland were not happy about its repeal in 2013. Some delegates were not in favor of the repeal and voted against it. Some of them believed that we should not completely abolish the death penalty because there are extreme cases that could call for it. Delegate Smigiel said I have grave concerns about the state having the power of life and death over other people, but there are circumstances where that s the only penalty that s appropriate for a crime (Dresser, 2013). They believe that we should still keep it in place for extreme situations such as the Boston Marathon Massacre, and the killing of correctional officers. While the people who are advocates for the death penalty did not like the ruling, they had the opportunity to sign petitions in order to stop the passing of the repeal bill. But they did not reach the number of signatures needed to stop the bill. This shows that they did not have enough support to say that they did not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. What Is The Theme Of Hope In Natasha Preston s The Cellar The novel, The Cellar, by Natasha Preston, is a mysterious, suspenseful and eerie book that keeps readers guessing throughout the entire read. The story takes place in a small town in England where hardly any crime happens. Due to the overall safe feeling of the small town, Summer, the main character, does not feel unsafe when walking alone at night. She states, Our town was probably actually definitely the most boring place on earth; nothing even remotely interesting ever happened (4). However, this is how the trouble began. The basic plot begins when Summer leaves for a gig she had gotten and gets abducted by a man named Clover. He takes her back to his house and locks her in a finished Cellar with three other girl and assigns them names ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite the violence and grim that Summer is put through, she never gives up hope of being found. For seven months she is kept in Clover s cellar, yet she never gives up hope. She is constantly looking for any glimpse of escape. She repeatedly tells the other girls that her family will find them saying Lewis will find me. He will never give up (143). Through her character, Preston is able to demonstrate how people can stay strong despite the situations they are put in. Summer shows how hope can get you through any obstacle despite the severity of the situation. The Cellar is a eye opening and suspenseful novel. Preston s writing is one that keeps the reader on their feet. I would definitely recommend this novel to anyone who wanted a story to keep them guessing. Preston does a great job telling the girls stories in the cellar as well as giving many different perspectives of what is happening. Her writing style and the story she generates is very unique and gives the reader a glimpse into a twisted and corrupted world. Overall, out of the many books I have read, I would say that this is one of my favorite reads and would recommend it to anyone who seemed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Psychological Disorder Of Depression The human brain is one of the most important organs in your body. A lot of research has been done on it and there are many things that still remain a mystery. The mind gives us the capability to think and act; without it we would not be able to function. The mind is so advanced that it can rewire itself and adapt to new situations. This paper will explore and discuss the film Girl Interrupted (1996) by exploring the psychological disorder of depression. Depression is a mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest (mayoclinic.org). When discussing depression, Patty from Girl Interrupted will be mentioned, the way society deals with depression will be discussed, and treatments for the psychological disorder will also be given. Depression is very common among the population and it does not discriminate against gender or ethnicity. There are many theories to why depression arises: faulty mood regulation by the brain, genetic vulnerability, stressful life events, medications, and medical problems health.Harvard.edu). Chemicals in the brain are also responsible for causing depression. One can have too much of one chemical and not enough of the other which causes an unbalance in the brain. Depression is one of the most common illness worldwide, Globally, more than 350 million people of all ages suffer from depression (Who.int), but women are more prone to be impacted by this psychological disorder.Polly was a character in Girl Interrupted ... • 10. Lysistrata Essay Women have always been down played throughout history and always had to fall below men. The play Lysistrata by Aristophanes is great play that shows the first time women started taking a stand against men for equal rights. The adaptation that I saw of lysistrata in San Francisco State School of Theater and Dance, my seat cost 17 dollars and my seat number was 107. I chose this because I believed it was the best seat to look at the play. The person who attended the play with me was my close friend Sabrina who loves plays. The Audience for the play including myself and Sabrina was very demographically populated, the whole entire room was full of people. Lysistratais a bawdy anti war comedy staged in 411 BCE, this play was believed to be one of Aristophanes greatest works as it takes to account that a woman took upon herself to end the peloponnesian war, by convincing women to take mens sexual privileges in order to start a negotiation for peace.(Luke) The duration of the play was about fifty minutes to one hour and the genre category I believe it fell under was a comedy. The play s duration is no coincidence as it was framed to fall in this specific time zone because they are perfect for school assemblies and social gatherings as well. The genre of the play like its discussed in chapter 2 what is a play states genre lets you know if the play fits you due to you knowing what kind of play it is.(p.23) The plot of this play is Lysistrata calls all women together to create ... • 13. Use Of Illusion And Hide Reality Plays A Heavy Role On... The use of illusion to hide reality plays a heavy role in William Shakespeare s Othello . Illusion is used frequently throughout the play in relation to love, friendship and character personalities. Some characters, especially Othello, cannot see through the illusion and assume what they see as reality. Iago, however, uses this to his advantage by creating multiple illusions to manipulate the other characters for power and revenge. Iago is seen by most of the characters as an honest and trustworthy man who is always willing to listen and give advice. Cassio, one of the characters who is fooled by the illusionary personality Iago has created, says I never knew/ a Florentine more kind and honest (III.i.38 39). The audience however knows that this is not the case, since at the beginning he says I am not what I am (I.i.62), meaning that he has created an illusion of himself to fool others into believing he is trustworthy. Iago states I follow him to serve my turn upon him (I.i.39), meaning that he only pretends to be loyal to Othello, acting as a good servant so that when the opportunity arises, Othello will not suspect him of sabotaging his marriage. Throughout the entire play, he pretends to be Othello s friend, feigning reluctance in voicing his suspicions about an affair between Desdemona and Cassio. He gains Othello s trust by being a good friend who is honest enough to tell him such horrible news. Iago creates the illusion of the affair by filling Othello s mind ... • 15. Action Research Literature Review Executive Summary Action Research believes that Human organizations can only be understood as whole entities (Baskerville, 1999) and that social processes are best to be studied when change is introduced to observe the effects of these. Following data analysis, Leepeng concluded results indicate that background music did improve subjects global sleep quality over time compared to those who did not receive any music. (Leepeng). However while overall improvement in sleep quality was observed, only two of the six PSQI sleep components measured demonstrated a statistically significant change. Although the experimental group provided better test scores across all six areas of sleep quality compared to the control, significant improvement was seen only in sleep duration and sleep efficiency (Leepeng). Nevertheless, a decrease in the number of poor sleepers within the experimental group decreased over time as, In the pretest, 68.9% were poor sleepers, which declined to 6.7% by the end of the experiment. The Incarnation Of Jesus The Christ Christopher Davis THE380 Christ Church Integrative/ Research Essay 2 March 17, 2015 Interpretation: The Incarnation of Jesus the Christ Over 2,000 years there has been endless debates pertaining to Jesus the Christ. The main issue is how a man can be truly divine and fully human? It seems paradoxical because of the combination of two separate natures, but it is a unique act of forgiveness by God. There are in fact clues to show how and, why Jesus is in fact fully divine along with fully human. There are links that trace Jesus historically. Due to these historic biblical resources, it makes understanding the divine subdivision of Jesus hard to understand. How does one come to terms with the fully divine side of Jesus? Is it only mythicized biblical texts or devout faith in the biblical tradition? There is no definite way to prove history because there is no way to go back in time. But there are clues within biblical text to show the humanity of Jesus. The first trace of evidence to show that Jesus was fully human is displayed in the Gospel of John. The word became flesh (John 1:14). This is evidence to show that Jesus took on the logos; which brings God s word, and will into humanity directly. Indication shows that Jesus exhibited human traits such as emotion. Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears (Hebrews 5:7) Jesus was fleshly, and maintained human qualities that were hard to deny. In the early 2000 s rapid industrialisation, immense scales of agriculture and other economic activities led to 20% of the territory being destroyed. The scale of destruction particularly, within Brazil was so large; NASA released an image confirming the effects were detectable from space, (Winter, 2014) Many of the contributing parties to the problem included, developers, subsistence farmers, cattle ranchers, mining/quarrying, colonising and paper producers, (Butler, 2006). Let us take the later example; paper producers that became tempted by mass production felled for self interest would have significantly risked depletion of the forest. The consequences would have been potentially catastrophic, the millions of species that the rainforest holds would have lost their habitats, (posing a risk of extinction) and 15% of the world s carbon would have been released, (Scheer Moss, 2012). While economic growth may result in an improvement in the standard of living of a relatively small proportion of the population whilst the majority of the population remains poor. It is how the economic growth is distributed amongst the population that determines the level of development. • 36. My Experience That Changed My Life I have had many events in my life that have made a difference, however one event that has changed my life forever was that day that I met my wife. If I hadn t had met her there would be many things that wouldn t have happened. First off I probably wouldn t be married today as I wasn t actively looking for a girlfriend at the time, I wouldn t have daughter and I wouldn t be the person that I am today. With out a doubt meeting my wife while I was working and having the guts to ask her out on our first date was an event that made a difference in my life. To start things off I was working at my part time job at a local gun store. My best friend told me that he had a girl coming over to meet me that he thought I might like. I was a little hesitant at first because it had been a while since I had been on date. He keep telling me that everything would be ok and not to worry about it. It was on a Friday, December 09, 2011 that this girl was supposed to come to the shop to meet me, I was nervous the whole day. The day was coming to an end, we were only going to be open for about another 45 minutes, when I saw the door open. I was able to tell that a woman was coming in and when she came around the corner I was fairly certain that this was girl he was talking. As she walked in, wearing black pants and a black Subway shirt, I asked her if there was anything we could help her with and she walked up to me and my friend. • 37. Issues By Julia Michaels The first song I am introducing on my soundtrack is Issues by Julia Michaels. Throughout Hannah s life she had many issues she needed to overcome. During all the events Hannah was going through, she needed to have a real friend that she could vent to, but she did not have anyone to go to. Hannah only had one real friend named Kat, but she moved away the summer before the freshman year of high school. Hannah genuinely thought her best friend for life would be Jessica, but that quickly changed within a few weeks of school. When Jessica slapped/scratched Hannah, it was pretty clear that their friendshipwas over, but if they had resolved that issue and continue being friends, could Hannah still be alive? Hannah needed a friend to talk about Tyler, Justin, Bryce and many more, but she never got that. Two lines that stands out in the lyrics of the song Issues is, Yeah, I got issues... And one of them is how bad I need you. These lines specifically point out how bad Hannah needed Jessica in their freshman to junior years.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first four lines talk about how the artist has made up her mind about what she is going to do next. When Hannah started to plan out how she was going to make the tapes and eventually commit suicide, she already had her mind set, so she did not need to continue on with her life. Throughout the song, the lyrics, Should I give up... Or should I just keep chasing pavements?... Even if it leads nowhere... keep repeating itself over and over again. I think Hannah had deeply thought about living her life and these lyrics show how she thought about advancing on. Chasing the pavements of the streets are a perfect example of life going on and on, but depending on which path Hannah took, her life got cut ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Manifelte Du SurrГ©alisme Meaning In AndrГ© Breton s Manifeste du surrГ©alisme, the ways in which Surrealism can be applied to both the artistic realm and everyday life are explored, as well as the importance placed on dreams. Breton believed in la rГ©solution future de ces deux Г©tats, en apparence si contradictoires, que sont le rГЄve et la realitГ©, en une sorte de rГ©alitГ© absolue, du surrГ©alitГ© (Breton and Bonnet, 1988). Based on the assumption that Luis BuГ±uel and Salvador DalГ wished to remain loyal to Breton s definition of Surrealism, it is likely that they understood the true functioning of thought to mean that which is achieved through dreaming, for this was very much discussed in the domains of art and psychoanalysis, and dreams, those which do not form a part of... In Un Chien Andalou BuГ±uel and DalГ present many situations lacking in reason, aesthetic and moral concern. These can be interpreted according to this theory of the true functioning of the unconscious mind. In the opening scene of Un Chien Andalou, a man is seen to slice open what appears to be the eye of a woman, with a razor. This is done after a thin cloud is seen to pass over the moon. This semantically contrasting change from one image to another is often present in dreams and can be seen throughout the film. In these juxtaposed images BuГ±uel and DalГ show the razor mimic the movement of the cloud. If this sequences of events from the film were to form part of a dream, this would explain the lack of reason behind the man s actions and his lack of moral concern for the well being of the woman. This ugly and disturbing image could be seen as the latent content before it is transformed into the manifest content of the moon and cloud to prevent exposing the mind to violent ideas, if the dreamer were the man performing the immoral act. Another similar pair of images which deals with the lack of reason and aesthetic in dreams is the image of armpit hair turning into a sea urchin. Here, we witness the scenario where ... • 39. Slavery And Human Trafficking The twentieth century has been a century of progress in almost every area of human rights. This makes the persistence of slavery in today s world even more egregious. Even as laws banning slavery and its prohibition are enshrined in international instruments, notably the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, it is still practiced in many forms: traditional chattel slavery, bonded labour, serfdom, child labour, migrant labour, domestic labour, forced labour and slavery for ritual or religious purposes (Aronowitz, 3). The enslaving of humans has a history that date back to the Roman Empire and ancient Greece. In the 15th century the Europeans traded African Slaves. African slaves were the first slaves bought to the United States, even leading other Africans to sell their own race. Slavery has taken on various forms of the span of 6,000 years. Slavery is now referred to as human trafficking or modern day slavery . Forced labor is defined as all work or service which is extracted from any person under the menace of any penalty and for which the said person has not offered himself voluntarily (Aronowitz, 11). Not all persons in forced labor are trafficked and not all trafficked persons are enslaved. Humans are taken from their homes and stripped of their morals. Human trafficking begins with trust. The Charlotte Mecklenburg school system, which includes the city of Charlotte, North Carolina, had more than 84,000 students in 107 schools in the 1968 1969 school year. Approximately 29% (24,000) of the pupils were Negro, about 14,000 of whom attended 21 schools that were at least 99% Negro. 2. A desegregation plan was approved by the District Court in 1965, at the commencement of this litigation. In 1968, petitioner Swann moved for further relief based on Green v. County School Board, 391 U.S. 430, which required school boards to come forward with a plan that promises realistically to work now, until it is clear that state imposed segregation has been completely removed. 3. The District Court ordered the school board in April 1969 to provide a plan for faculty and student desegregation. Finding the board s submission unsatisfactory, the District Court appointed an expert to submit a desegregation plan. 4. In February 1970, the expert and the board presented plans, and the court adopted the board s plan, as modified, for the junior and senior high schools, and the expert s proposed plan for the elementary schools. 5. It is tendencies of business and investing in domestic and foreign markets. The globalization strengthens the interconnections of various markets. It is social and technological trends that shows policy changes. When looking at economics worldwide one has to consider the history of trade, the relationship of tariffs, and the standards in the industries. International trade indicates a large part of the economic research of production growth. Market size has grown from exports of a companies products. By exporting a company learns about the foreign markets. The company may gain some expertise from feedback they obtain from the buyer. This is called the learning by exporting theory. The learning by export theory shows a link between the productivity and trade. It shows improvements that is tied to the trades and resource reallocations. The theory relies on studies and the cross industry with time variations within trade. This is a link between the countries. It can run mock trails to find evidence of more productive in certain periods of time. For instance Egyptian manufacturers of rugs may not have had as much opportunity to export their goods. • 44. The Handmaid s Tale Literacy Essay ENG4U: The Handmaid s Tale Literacy Essay Shoshannah Lewis Margret Atwood s The Handmaid s Tale takes place in the closely monitored, male dominant area of Gilead where women are deprived of their sexual and human rights, forbidding them to live independently. For many years prior to Gilead s existence, women were seen as inferior to men and neglected of basic human rights such as voting, career opportunities, and equal salaries. The Republic of Gilead was later introduced following the transition of the United States government into a totalitarian leadership style, giving the government complete and all power amongst society. Very similar to the second wave of feminism, where women fought for reproductive rights, women are doing so in this near future setting of Gilead. In the novel, a future is revealed in which female fertility has completely dwindled. Thus, women who are still fertile are labeled Handmaid s and are sent to different upper class commanders for reproduction. With this being said, the fact that only certain women are capable of reproduction forces completion amongst the sex due to the high sexual standards society expects the female gender to meet. The novel follows a Handmaid by the name of Offred, and her fight with sexual repression and exploitation of women within the corrupt Republic of Gilead s. • 45. How to Treat a Stained Tooth Fissure Introduction The morphological configuration of the occlusal surface of the first permanent molar is the most vulnerable and susceptible tooth surface to dental decay and the incidence of caries on these surfaces is still rising. There are occasions where the fissures of these teeth are stained and at the time of deciding the appropriate treatment the question arises whether we should or we should not treat them. When there are dentists that think that seal over a stained fissure is the right treatment choice, there is evidence suggested by others that a stained fissure should not be treated as a sound fissure. There are teeth with questionable or suspicious occlusal surfaces, in which we can notice that there have been changes from the clear sound fissures even without loss of surface and it is dubious to decide whether or not it should be treated as it could be an incipient but not cavitated fissure. A stained fissure means a fissure that is discoloured, brown or black, even an area of white or opaque enamel where its normal translucidency is lost but it has no evidence of surface breakdown (cavitation). Discoloured fissures does not necessary indicate an active caries process and they may represent sounds surfaces (where the discolouration descends from organic material trapped in the fissure) or non cavitated caries lesions (where the demineralised enamel has been stained and possibly arrested). It is doubtful if a discoloured fissure expresses generally a viable ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What I was not aware of is how deeply being a part of high school band would shape me as a person. Looking back on that time is almost surreal considering that I know have been in band up to senior year, have been a section leader, and learningmore instruments than one. Being a part of band has shown me that I am always part of something much larger than myself. It is not always about me, and that is okay. But after almost eight years of playing in the band I have learned that it is okay to not be the most important person in the room. In fact, it is often more fulfilling to be the one that helps lift that person up. Even the most important person in the room messes up and I have now seen that nobody is perfect. Social Construction Of Gender And Gender Roles While observing interactions between people of both different and the same genders in the park at Orange Circle, it becomes evident how the social construction of gender and standard gender roles may or may not follow archetypal manner and can be applied differently depending on the individuals. Some of the observations recorded during this period have provided evidence that genderroles and gender stereotypes may be followed or applied in an archetypal way. However, what is most interesting is that the observation of select individuals has delineated the manner by which certain aspects of gender roles are shown to be subverted, challenged, or even reversed. Based on these observations, it can be surmised that people may have a choice in the ways in which the social construction of gender does and does not apply to their lives. As was stated in the introduction, some of the interactions recorded during the observation showed the ways in which socially constructed gender roles are reinforced. This is best exemplified by the interaction between two small children, a girl and a boy, who were playing by the fountain located in the center of the park. The young boy can be described as exhibiting rather aggressive behaviors that include but are not limited to pushing and shoving, throwing objects, and shouting. In contrast, the young girl behaves in a much more submissive manner, reacting to the boy s actions by giggling, smiling and squealing. This example provides ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The second process in risk management is the process of Risk Reduction, Minimization or Containment. This process involves planning and action to reduce the risks and, if that is not possible, to introduce strategies to minimize the impact of failure. To manage the risks in our commute, we could reduce risk by moving closer to work, obtaining flexible working hours or undertaking community and political action to improve public transport. • 54. The Contemporary Code Of Chivalry In Marie De France Marie de France wrote a collection of poems during the high middle ages that reflect the contemporary code of chivalry. Her poetry was classified as courtly love because it mostly involved knights in adulterous relationships with noble ladies. Her collection of twelve poems have themes of love, loyalty, etc. and how they relate to the codes of chivalry that serves as a guide for how a knight should act in order to be honorable. The code of chivalry was created to make warfare among European knights more pleasant. They would give each other time to prepare for fights and treated knights they captured as guests that had to pay a ransom rather than prisoners. Following these rules gave knights more honor, which they held in very high esteem. This code included different values that should characterize a honorable knight. Another way to achieve this honor was by dedicating themselves to a noble lady who they would serve with faithful adoration. This concept was the subject of Marie de Frances courtly lovepoetry. De France uses characters to highlight the values of chivalry in her poems. For example, in the poem Lanval the knight by the same name demonstrates generosity and hospitality as well as loyalty to his lord king Arthur. Arthur however is envious of him and does not grant him the land or wealth he has earned.
