Impulsivity And Its Effect On The Risk Of A Reward
Impulsivity has been defined numerous ways, but it is best explained as behavior without adequate
thought and can be commonly assessed using a number of different measures. Two measures
frequently used are the Barratt Impulsivity Scale (BIS 11) and delayed discounting tasks. The BIS 11
is a self report questionnaire that produces global impulsivity scores and scores on three second order
factors: attentional, motor, and non planning. Each subscale of the BIS 11 assesses a different type of
impulsivity. The attentional subscale measures an individual s inability to focus attention or
concentrate on one subject, motor impulsivity tests action without thinking, and non planning refers to
the lack of future orientation.
On the other hand, delayed discounting is a behavioral assessment. It is considered a functional
measure because it gauges the participants choice in actual scenarios, it does not just ask about it.
Discounting pertains to the decrease in the subjective value of a reward as its uncertainty increases or
as the delay until its receipt increases (Du et al. 2002). For example, if a reward with the same value
can be obtained immediately or after some delay, the individual deciding will choose the immediate
reward.
Since the Barratt Impulsivity Scale and delayed discounting tasks differ in that the BIS 11 is a self
report questionnaire and delayed discounting is a behavior assessment, there is not enough evidence to
say they measure the same thing. Therefore, several

Human Rights in China Essay
Human Rights in China
One of the first things that come to mind about human rights in China would most likely be the
Tiananmen Square massacre, where in 1989 hundreds of student protestors lost their lives to the
People s Republic of China.
The bloody body of a dead student removed from the street right after the Tiananmen Square
crackdown on June 4, 1989. Web page http://www.rjgeib.com/thoughts/china/china.html The name
People s Republic of China seems a contradiction of its meaning. If indeed its name is the People s
Republic of China than why did it massacre peaceful protestors with tanks and machine guns? But the
Chinese government argues that the force was necessary for maintaining a national order (Muzhi

Thereafter, several leaders of the movement were sentenced to long prison terms in late December,
and hundreds of others were sentenced to reeducation through labor. Late in the year, according to
some reports, the government started confining some Falun Gong adherents to psychiatric hospitals
(China Country Report on Human Rights Practices for 1999).
The government continued to commit widespread and well documented human rights abuses in
violation of internationally accepted terms. These abuses stemmed from the government s extremely
limited tolerance of public unrest. The Constitution and laws provide for fundamental human rights
however, these rights are often ignored in practice. Abuses included instances of extra judicial killings,
torture and mistreatment of prisoners, forced confessions, arbitrary arrest and detention, lengthy
incommunicado detention, and denial of due process(Amnesty International. China, violations of
human rights). Prison conditions at most facilities remained very harsh. In many cases, especially in
sensitive political cases, the judicial system denied criminal defendants basic legal safeguards and due
process of the law, merely because authorities attached higher priorities to maintaining public order
and suppressing political opposition than to enforcing the legal norms of the country (Amnesty
International. China, violations of human rights). The government infringed on citizens privacy rights.

Negative Stereotypes Of Gay Bars And Gay Nightclubs
Introduction
Since The 1930s, gay bars and gay nightclubs have been around. The bar called the White Horse, in
Oakland, California, has been opened since 1933. It is known to be the first gay bar to be opened here
in America. Being gay in the 1930s was brutal. Same gender sex was a felony, and being caught in a
gay bar could cost someone their job... In a society that viewed gays as barley human, the White Horse
allowed a level of freedom that in the 1940s or 1950s was liberating (Duffy 2016). With time changes
and people being more accepted, gay bars and gay nightclubs started opening all across America. One
of the many gay nightclubs here in Denver is known as Tracks. It was opened in 1980. On October
5th, 2017, an experiential observation at the Tracks nightclub was made. During this experience, it
was observed that these people that identified as either gay, lesbian, or bisexual were acting as normal
human beings in a heterosexual nightclub. Although the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender
movement acts have been created to allow this community to be more open and unafraid, it has had a
history of negative stereotypes against LGBT nightclubs which actually benefit this community within
psychological components, social components, and dealing with hate crimes towards this community
community.

Counseling And Life Coaching Summary
The book begins with analyzing the different aspects of counseling and life coaching, as life coaching
is not a professional position, which follows along with, it is not indicative to counselling. The author
expresses the idea of life coaching is to better someone s life with the concepts they have identified,
establishing guidelines/goals the client wants to improve upon or change in their lives (Nelson Jones,
2007) It continues to explain how important exchanging information is in life coaching. This applies
to the client and the life coach (Nelson Jones,2007).
Nelson Jones, (2007) describes four areas that help a new coach to use and expand on improving their
life coaching standards. They include relating, understanding, changing, and

Columbine School Shooting It s difficult to believe that two high school students could enter their
school and begin firing on classmates, but that s exactly what happened at Columbine. The country
was riveted by the news that something so evil could happen by two of their own. Columbine High

The Influence Of John Locke On Child Development
In early centuries child development wasn t as important as it is now. Children were treated as adults,
and no one paid attention on how a child develops. As soon as a child reaches an age where the child
can take care of himself or herself, the child would start working, and acting as if he or she was a
mature person. The idea development does not being or end with children, however centuries ago no
one knew or even care about any type of human development. It was during the seventeen and
eighteen century when some philosophers and educators started arguing how important child
development was, and different ways on how a child can develop through stages.

Cadogan wrote guideline on how the raise children right, and his wrote was full tips for parents and
nursing, and those guidelines were much needed during that time because children were suffering.
Plato and Aristotle were Greece philosophers who had different opinion when it comes to child
development. Plato believed children are born with knowledge well Aristotle believed knowledge
came from experiences. Plato stressed child s discipline and self control, and Aristotle stressed child s
up bringing and the child s individual need. Later philosophers John Locke and Jean Jacques
Rousseau both took on the history of child development with their different approach. Both Locke and
Rousseau wrote series of books about the steps of development that children go through. Locke
argued by that knowledge comes experience like Aristotle. Rousseau believed society and parents
should give freedom to child, and let them learn by interacting with them physically and emotionally.
Rousseau was a true believer of education like Pestalozzi; he believed educating the children is
important part of their development. Charles Darwin and Johanna Heinrich Pestalozzi both write
about child development during the eighteen century, however Darwin s focus was mental or cognitive
development well Pestalozzi focus was towards education. Both Darwin and Pestalozzi observed their
child, but they were observing different reasons. Pestalozzi believed

Essay on Against Sweatshops
Some companies have acceded to public pressure to reduce or end their use of sweatshops. Such firms
often publicize the fact that their products are not made with Anti globalization activists and
environmentalists also deplore transfer of heavy industrial manufacturing (such as chemical
production) to the developing world. Although chemical factories have little in common with
sweatshops in the original sense, detractors describe them as such and claim that there are negative
environmental and health impacts (such as pollution and birth defects, respectively) on workers and
the local community.

Because of the relatively higher value placed on male education, young women are often encouraged
by their families to leave school and migrate to urban areas or Export Processing Zones (EPZ) to work
in the garment industry. As outsiders in a new community, these young women lack the legal or family
support they might receive in their own community and therefore, have to spend a larger amount of
income on supporting themselves. Consequently, these young women who are no longer receiving an
education often find it hard to earn enough money to send back to their family.[21]
The division of labour in sweatshops is gendered because the vast majority of workers are young
women. The problems faced by many workers are also gendered because gender based notions of
what is acceptable inform working conditions. Thus medical or maternity leave, employer / employee
relations and the right to organize can all become gender biased. Consequently, the negative aspects of
sweatshops have a disproportionate impact on women. Because of this, some argue that efforts to
combat the poor working conditions in sweatshops should focus more on empowering women[citation
needed]. Although company led attempts to improve the working conditions in sweatshops such as the
Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) have had some successes, others criticize the ETI as gender blind
[citation needed]. The modern

The Archetypal Hero Journey, J
The archetypal hero journey, Joseph Campbell states, is a typical series of heroic actions. Four stages
form the hero journey: departure, trials, epiphany, and return (the stages do not necessarily occur
consecutive with the listing). Death and resurrection of lifestyle and beliefs, spiritual journey, and
finally rebirth form hero journey s motif. An archetypal hero pattern is the transformation of the
character s conscience through trials and revelations. Lust, fear, and social duties tend to be the main
trials heroes face. Campbell defines a hero as a character who overcomes his trials and gives his life to
something superior to himself committed extraordinary deeds. There are two types of heroes. The

with cause Job extensive agony: he loses his livestock, servants, children, and health. Although his
physical health and social stature have diminished, Job s faith never wavers. The comforters, three
friends and a wife, offer Job advice they presume will end his anguish. The friends believe, to be so
cursed, Job has sinned horribly and they tell him he must repent his sins so God will forgive him. Job
knows he has not sinned and, therefore, does not deserve the torment brought upon him. Since they
cannot console him and only increase his frustration, Job desires his friends absence. I have heard

Socio-Erapo-Social-Work Theory And Social Work
Introduction Throughout the social work profession, there is ongoing interest in building a social
science agenda that can address the complex practice based questions faced by social work
professionals today, says Matto and Goltzman (2010). As a social worker it is vital, to use our tools
and skills we have learned in order to assist our clients to the best of our ability and knowledge. Social
workers can use models and theories such as the bio psycho social model, development factors, as
well as, theoretical perspectives in order to gain a firm understanding of the individual s environment
and how it effects their development. These theories have helped to attempt us to understand and
explain human behavior, relationship, and social issues; however, this theory has taught social workers
what we practice on an everyday basis and how we interact and intergrade with society through,
evidence based practice helps understand human behavior. Emma is a five year old girl who has

The Survey Method Of Choice For A Researcher
There are many situations that make conducting an interview the survey method of choice for a
researcher. The interview can be completed face to face, either individually or as part of a focus group,
or it can be completed by telephone. All of these methods allow a richer opportunity to gather
information in a more open ended fashion, allowing the interviewer to take note of body language,
tone of voice, and other aesthetic aspects of the participant. Salant and Dillman (1994) recommend
face to face interview surveys when respondents are unlikely to respond willingly or accurately in
writing, when the questionnaire is complex, and when projects are well funded and include
professional, experienced interviewers. Face to face interviews are generally preferred over telephone
interviews, since body language and other nuances can be more closely monitored. Ng and Coakes
(2014) point out that not all the data collected will be numerical, and contextual and textual data can
also be analyzed. Brace (2004) also makes note that being in the same room allows the interviewer to
use prompt cards and other visuals that would be inhibited over the phone. Focus groups, on the other
hand, allow the advantage of a face to face meeting while making good use of time and cost by having
several people in the room together. This setting helps weed out extreme views, creates a forum for
discussion and argument in a controlled setting, and can stimulate opinions and ideas through a group

Examples Of Direct Characterization In Of Mice And Men
One of the most astounding books Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, took place in one of the
darkest time period in American History, the Great Depression. The setting of the book took place in a
small country town in Soledad California, near the Salinas River. This book introduces the two main
characters, George Milton, and Lennie Small with real life struggles of being migrant farm workers
for a ranch. The story opens up with one of the many conflicts that George and Lennie will face
throughout the whole story; George and Lennie running away from Weed after feeling a girls red
dress. Although Lennie commits certain acts of violence in Of Mice and Men John Steinbeck portrays
Lennie Small as having the traits common to the innocent archetype.
John Steinbeck portrays Lennie s characterizations through indirect and direct characterizations.
Indirect characterization is when the author will describe a person about how they are through context
clues but not directly saying it. For example, No whatta want? Let s have different color rabbits
George. (Steinbeck 16). That is indirect characterization for Lennie being childish because John
Steinbeck does not come straight out and say that Lennie is childish, but readers can tell by the context
that he is childish. Direct characterization is when the author comes right out to the readers and says
the characters traits. For instance, Behind him walked his opposite, a huge man... (Steinbeck 2). This
being direct characterization

Malvolio Character Analysis
Malvolio
Malvolio is a minor character in twelfth night as he plays the role of Olivia s head servant and
steward. His humiliation makes his role in the play quite amusing with the Olivia, Viola (Cesario), and
Orsino love triangle, which as the play goes on, becomes more and more amusing and after a while,
you cannot help but feel bad for the poor person. His arrogant and selfish personality makes him an
amenity of sir toby, Sir Andrew and Maria who play a cruel trick on him, making him believe Olivia is
in love with him. He has a poor opinion of drinking, adding humor to this 1500 s comedy.
A delusional fool. When reading act two scene 5 Malvolio makes his love for Olivia clear when
reading the faked letter made by Maria, Sir Toby, and Sir Andrew made him. When reading it he
seems like more and more of an idiot. The first reason for this is M.O.A.I. For all these letters are in
my name however if he thought about this a bit more he could realize, if Olivia (the person he loves)
was sending a love later she would use his real name (Malvolio) instead of M.O.A.I. the second thing
is. Yes, the letters moai are in his name but there is zero evidence the letter was for him. Possibly
Olivia was actually sending a letter to moai, he is too full of himself to realize such a simple thing.
Sure the letter was meant for him but he should have sat down to re read it and really think about it, he
didn t have to know Maria wrote it but he should have talked to Maria instead of going to

Critical Thinking Reasoning Is Relevant And Reliable Essay
1. Critical thinking means to think correctly in to find knowledge that is relevant and reliable. The
critical thinking process consists of reasoning which is the process in which we think. This way of
thinking has several different aspects. Reasoning is done from a certain point of view and based on
data, information and evidence. Reasoning is expressed through and shapes by concepts and ideas.
Reasoning also uses inferences and interpretations to draw conclusions and give meaning to data.
When it comes to critical thinking reasoning is not the only part of critical thinking. When thinking
critically it is important to have clarity which has to do with elaborations, thinking using different
points and examples. Accuracy is also important. It is crucial that the information being presented is
true. When thinking critically there must be an aspect of precision and relevance. Precision requires
that we are specific and have plentiful details. Relevance is ensuring the information is connected to
the question at hand. Another crucial aspect is depth. It is important to address the complexities of the
question presented. Breadth is another important part because it considers looking at the question a
different way with different points of view. Lastly, but also very important there must be logic behind
critical thinking. Using logic is what ensures that your thinking makes sense and can be followed.

The Origins Of The United Nations
Kofi Annan once said, More than ever before in human history we share a common destiny. We can
master it only if we face it together. The origins of the United Nations began seventy years, here, in
the United States. In 1945, representatives of 50 countries met in San Francisco at the United Nations
Conference. Each delegate deliberated on the proposals by the representatives of China, the Soviet
Union, the United Kingdom, and the United States at Dumbarton Oaks starting in August of 1944. The
Charter was signed in June of 1945 by each of the fifty one representatives. The U.N. was officialized
on October 24 of 1945, after the Charter had been ratified by a majority of other signatories (un.org,
2015) . While the intentions for Franklin D. Roosevelt s coined United Nations was to align the Allied
Powers and anyone else against the Axis Powers in World War II, the it s goals are a bit broader now.
While we did have a League of Nations before The United Nations, it was put in place after the Paris
Peace Conference after the first World War, there wasn t exactly much accomplished. The United
Nations now, has four main purposes: maintain international peace and security, develop healthy
relations amongst nations, solve international problems and promote human rights. While some
agendas are hard to advance, the U.N. has successfully completed several; including peacebuilding in

There exists the potential of using the results of the surveys to pay bonuses to everyone from line
employees to vice presidents. Such an incentive scheme could help focus employee attention on
quality and customer satisfaction issues. The purpose of these Customer Experience Studies would be
to gather information on how customers viewed their visits to The Coop restaurants. The program
would involve using an outside company, which would hire individuals to visit Coop restaurants and
the individual would have no knowledge of who was paying for the research. The cost of this would
be approximately $20 per visit, or a total of $45,600 for an entire year. While Wallace s ideas are
expensive, they will provide The Coop with the most in depth research. When offering
recommendations, one has much to consider. Primarily, while Buckmeister s ideas have some
potential to be effective, market research cannot be approached with the mindset of providing the
business with a quick and easy fix. To truly understand consumers, both of his options are not in depth
enough and contain too small of a sample size. I think that each of Buckmeister s ideas should be
implemented as they are both relatively inexpensive (focus groups and comment cards) but they must
be supplemented by a larger and more in depth form of market research. I believe that McMicheal s
suggestion of taste tests should be eliminated from consideration. Sales at The Coop are not

The Arguments In Albert Einstein s Solvay Conference
Albert Einstein was one of the many incredible scientists that went to the Solvay Conference. In 1927,
scientists from all around the world came to present their arguments against each other at the Solvay
Conference in Brussels. A few couple of scientists in particular, one being Albert Einstein and the
other being Niels Bohr, continued to present arguments and counterarguments against each other to
prove who s theory made the most sense. As much as Einstein fought, Bohr just kept fighting back.
Bohr came up with every counterargument possible and even brought up Einstein s Theory of
Relativity and used it against him. At the end of the day, Niels Bohr had won against Einstein. Niels
Bohr was another large piece of the Solvay Conference in 1927. He and Einstein were the stars of the
show, as they both battled to prove their theories. Niels Bohr s theory was about Quantum Mechanics .
Even today we still use this theory. The teachers teach this to the students, and it is the best theory that
we know about. The theory is that we use different orbitals where the electrons will travel around the
atom. The different orbitals mean the different energy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One scientist that helped was Werner Heisenberg. Heisenberg worked very closely with Bohr, sort of
like an assistant. They both worked on the mathematical foundations of quantum mechanics.
Heisenberg developed the uncertainty principle, which set the limits to the position and speed

hero to quantum mechanics, as he did an incredible amount of work on the mathematics part of it. He
discovered that the Schrodinger wave equation would be used to predict where the particle would be.
The Copenhagen view thought up by these many scientists would be later known as the standard that

“Lord of the Flies” Character Essay
Humans have a monster inside of them that is subdued by society, and if society is taken away, then
that monster will consume them. This is true for most people, but not all humans are like that. One of
the most notable humans to over come the monster is Simon, a character from the book Lord of the
Flies by William Golding. The story is set on an island in the Pacific Ocean. A plane full of British
schoolboys crash lands on an island and they re stranded there with no adults, no society, and no rules.
Simon is one of the few characters that stay sensible and good throughout the story. He has a sixth
sense about things happening around him, he is kindhearted, and he faints a lot which give the
appearance of him being weak. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Simon gets fruit for the littluns who can t reach it by themselves, another kind act only meant to help
another. He [Piggy] went crouching and feeling over the rocks but Simon, who got there first, found
them for him (71). When Jack hits Piggy and he loses his glasses, Simon is the one that picks them up
for him. Simon knows that Piggy gets picked on and is disliked among most of the members of the
tribe, but he helps him out anyways. Simon s angelic nature is topped off with the fact that he has
seizures. Simon faints continuously throughout the story, which gives the impression that he s weak.
Then one of the boys flopped on his face in the sand and the line broke up (20). This is the first time
Simon faints. He s [Simon] always throwing a faint, said Merridew (20). Here Jack Merridew admits
that Simon has fainted a lot in the past and should be just left alone on the sand. Simon was inside the
mouth. He fell down and lost consciousness (144). When he imagines that the sow s head is talking to
him, he has a seizure near the end of the conversation and blacks out. This is the last time he fainted
until his life ended. Simon faints a lot throughout the story giving others the impression he is weak
and sickly, but in truth he is a very strong, caring person. Simon represented the good on the island.

Poverty And The Inner City
Poverty has been a consistent problem throughout the history of the world. Despite the wealth of a
country, there will always be people who are homeless and hungry. Poverty carries many different
definitions, but one that truly encompasses all of its effects is, the unfulfillment of basic human need
required to adequately sustain life free from disease, misery, hunger, pain, suffering, hopelessness, and
fear (Julio, 76). Even though the United is one of the most prosperous countries in the world, it is not
immune to poverty. In 2014, 46.7 million people (15%) were in poverty in the United States. This is
no small issue, and one that we as Christians are called to combat. In the United States poverty is a
national problem, however, it is most prevalent in the inner cities. The inner city is defined as, A
general term for impoverished areas of large cities. The inner city is characterized by minimal
educational opportunities, high unemployment and crime rates, broken families, and inadequate
housing (Dictionary.com). Although, according to the Initiative for a Competitive Inner City (ICIC),
absolute poverty is higher in the suburbs than in the inner cities, affecting 11 million people compared
to 8 million people in the inner cities, poverty is still concentrated in the inner cities and is more
prevalent there. The inner cities comprise less than 1% of land area versus the suburbs which comprise
17% of total land area nearly 100x that of inner cities. Overall, 3 in 10

INDUSTRY PROFILE
[pic]
An overview: The steel industry
The Indian Steel industry is almost 100 years old now. Till 1990, the Indian steel industry operated
under a regulated environment with insulated markets and large scale capacities reserved for the
public sector. Production and prices were determined and regulated by the Government, while SAIL
and Tata Steel were the main producers, the latter being the only private player. The industry took its
first faltering steps in 1907 with the setup of the first integrated steel plant in Jamshedpur by TISCO.
Since then the Indian steel industry has emerged as one of the core sectors in the Indian economy with
a very significant impact on economic growth.
The 90 s were a very tumultuous time for the Indian economy 1992 saw India takes its first steps
towards economic liberalization. Along with the opening up of the economy Indian Steel also saw the
entry of a number of domestic players. Private investment flowed into the industry adding fresh
capacities. The major growth came after economic liberalization in 1992. Steel production and
consumption, which were earlier controlled by government, were liberalized. This encouraged the
growth of private enterprises that were further responsible for the growth of the industry, especially

Private Peaceful Comparative Essay
The novel Private Peaceful and the short story The Best Christmas Present in the World are both by
Michael Morpurgo, however the author is not the only thing that connects the two. When looking at
these stories you realise just how similar they are, mainly the characters, plot and many of the themes.
However, these stories are also very different, and the main characters face challenges that are
different to each other yet hold just as much importance. Tommo, our narrator in Private Peaceful,
faces difficult times when he is forced to leave his loved ones to fight for his country in the First
World War. Jim Macpherson is the protagonist in The Best Christmas Present in the World and also

When looking at the latter, it does seem like Connie and Jim almost reflect Molly and Charlie in their
loss and relationship with each other. However it does seem, at a glance at least, that Private Peaceful
is the sadder of the pair. When looking deeper though, and thinking about Molly, you do realise that,
yes, she does loose her love but at least she has a support network. Connie however, didn t have any of
that and therefore never fully got over the loss of her husband, as it seems that he was her foundation
and when he left she is, as it says in the book is a bit confused and She has no family you know. No
one visits . It is clear that these stories are tales of love, loss and sorrow and hold many emotions
between their pages. They teach us of the way life was in the war, how terrible the danger was in
Private Peaceful but also how incredible the peace felt in The Best Christmas Present in the World ,
even if for only a day. They do have their differences but still give us the message of hope and to
treasure what we have, as we may not have it for much longer. They have varied plots, themes and
characters but are overall very close in many aspects, such as the sacrifices they had to

Abstract
In order to ease the lives of authors, editors, and trees, we present a manual and an example of the use
of Microsoft Word and similar tools for creating documents for EasyChair based electronic and on
paper publishing of workshop and conference proceedings.
1 Introduction
The styles and parameters of this guide are designed for compliance with the requirements for
publication in the EasyChair conference system (Voronkov, 2004), and are also applicable to the

The references (or the bibliography) section of the article is created by clicking on the Bibliography
button in the References section of the ribbon control mentioned above (or under Bibliographies in the
Document Elements tab of the ribbon control in Microsoft Word for Mac). After inserting this section,
the style of its header should be set to References.
The automatically generated References section may need to be explicitly updated to reflect further
changes done in the bibliography. When clicking on the automatically generated text of the section, a
Bibliography button will appear in the text and offer a menu with an update command.
This feature is not available in Microsoft Word 2003, so if you are reading this guide as a Word 2003
XML document, citations and the bibliography will appear as a static text and will not be updated
automatically.
4 Adding Figures and Tables
In Microsoft Word, pictures can be inserted into the document by going to Insert Picture From File...
on the menu and selecting the desired file. To simplify working with the image, it is recommended
that you insert the picture into a text box. In order to make it into a figure and add a caption, select the
image by clicking on it and then go to Insert Caption... (or Insert Reference Caption... in earlier
versions of Microsoft Word). From here, you can select the position of the caption (this should be set
to below the image) and edit the text within it. Make sure

Should Shale Gas Controversy
Shale gas controversy has been ongoing in New Brunswick for a number of years now, when the
outgone Congressive premier: David Alward refused to stop the commencement of shale fracking in
the region, there was an upsurge by the residents. Fracking is a form of natural gas extraction, where
millions of gallons of pressurized and chemical treated water are pumped into shale to extract gases
embedded in the deposits. Most of the residents of Richibuto New Brunswick are arguing that,
although economic growth is important, it should not be at the detriment of the environment.
However, the government and some residents are of the opinion that, because the province is poor,
prioritizing economic growth over environmental concern is paramount. If fracking is allowed in the
province, it will create more jobs, attract private investors Another major concern raised was the issue
of water pollution and wastage . Shale is a dense rock found two miles underground, if fracking isn t
done correctly, chemicals used in fracking can leak to the surface making water undrinkable. ... Show

Ethics And Purpose Of Corporate Governance

What is corporate strategy? Corporate strategy is a complete plan of action encompassing all the
activities and functions performed by business firms. The plan covers all the objectives of the
company related to the allocation of resources and coordination among different levels. Corporate
Strategy as a framework began to be developed in the 60 s and the 70 s where for the first time
companies had to think in a systematic and integrated way about their costs, competitors and their
customers. In the mid 80 s and beginning of 90 s, corporate strategy started to focus on process
engineering, re engineering, thinking more systematically about world wide expansion and therefore
globalisation but at the same time it also focused on a more granular aspect and migrated down to the
industry by industry. Nowadays, corporate strategy is about participating in different business units
and is defined as a process of diversification across structurally different industries. It is about
participating in multiple businesses grouped under a corporate parent and creating common strategic

The Buzz Saw Poem Analysis
A young fellow is cutting kindling with a buzz saw in New England. Close to the end of the day, the
kid s sister reports that it is time for supper and, out of exhilaration, the kid unintentionally cuts his
hand with the saw. He asks his sister not to enable the specialist to cut away the hand yet deep down
understands that he has effectively lost a great deal of blood to survive. The boy passes away while
under anesthesia, and everybody backpedals to work. Around 1916 World War I was in progress and a
lot of unprepared children had to take the duties of the adults to help out with the households. Frost
utilizes the strategy of personification to significantly impact in this poem. The buzz saw, however; a
lifeless question is depicted as a discerning being, forcefully growling and rattling as it does its work.
At the point when the sister makes the supper declaration, the saw indicates that it has its very own
psyche by jumping out of the boy s hand in exhilaration. Frost declines to lay fault for the damage on
the boy, who is a young child on the most fundamental level. In spite of faulting the saw, Frost accuses
the grown ups at the scene for not interceding and advising the kid to throw in the towel before the
mischance happened. Had the kid got an early reason from the workday, he would have refrained from
removing his hand and would have been spared from death. Besides, an insignificant half hour break
from his employment would have enabled the kid to recapture some portion of his adolescence, if just
for a minute. Frost s accentuation on the boy s lack of involvement and blamelessness in this
circumstance is especially noteworthy with regards to the day and age. Subsequent to moving to
England with his family, Frost was compelled to come back to America as a result of the onset of
World War I in 1915, an occasion that would devastate the lives of numerous pure young men. In view
of that, this poem can be perused as an investigation of the world occasions that constrained young
men to abandon their childhoods and at last be decimated by conditions outside their ability to control.
Most adolescents and young people, both young men and young ladies, left primary schools where

In cases like Elliot Rogers and like Brock Turner s we see how gender favoritism can change the terms

would create this idea of being superior a superior human and a superior race. In cases where the
perpetrator is other then white in the United States they are not branded as mentally unhealthy like
Elliot and are not taken into consideration on how the crime may affect the perpetrator like what
happened for Brock Turner. An important aspect regarding the link between sexist attitudes and male
violence against women concerns the fact that sexist attitudes function as socially shared norms in
justifying such violence. Generally this means rules ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
How they do this is Bona fide occupational requirements, or BFOR for short. What BFOR is, is its a
true requirement of a job that merits a possibly discriminatory effect. (Michael Kimmel, page 218)
Gender favoritism plays a part in how companies select the BFOR, an example in terms of police
specific testing, several physical ability tests have been used in North America. (Gregory S. Anderson,
page 10) In some cases BFOR was not properly used and is a clear example of how gender favoritism
shapes certain fields of work. In 1994, Tawney Meiorin, who had successfully worked as a forest
firefighter in British Columbia for more than 2 years, was dismissed from her job for marginally
failing one of four parts of an aerobic fitness test. (Rickards Kuruganti, page 451) Although it makes
sense for somebody who has a job that is very hazardous to have to pass all tests that are mandatory,.
However, on appeal, the Supreme Court of Canada determined that the standard was not a BFOR and
that the standards for this test had not been shown to be an accurate indicator of ability to perform the
duties of a firefighter safely and efficiently. She was subsequently rehired and compensated. (Rickards

Groopman s Essay On Immunotherapy
Groopman s essay is a collection of case studies and anecdotes assembled to provide a chronology on
immunotherapy as a potentially viable treatment for cancer. One of the prevalent notions that arises
from his work is centered on the impact of pharmaceutical desires with regards to medical research.
Often in the essay the directions or methods of research are coerced to change towards the end of
pleasing large pharmaceutical companies or other sources of capital. By enabling a cycle of monetary
allocations dictating scientific research and not the other way around, as it objectively should be the
potential of less conventional or longer term research cannot hope to be realized, as the research is

in the case of immunotherapy between periods of discovery for the available technology to be able to

Nixon declared cancer would be cured within a decade in 1971, and Hammer made Nixon s old and

Effects Of Youth Sports
Sports is one of the most viewed and attended events in today s society. Today youth sports have
soared in popularity, as more and more children participate in sports at a young age. Youth sports are
intended to bring together young kids and develop friendships, teams, and to overall just have fun. As
parents put their kids into these sports at a very young age, the effects can often be costly. The increase
in popularity of youth sports has caused injuries to skyrocket, children and parents must face different
ethnicities and also fairness towards playing time, and lastly youth sports coaches are not well
educated and therefore often teach the youth the wrong ways of playing the game, which put the kids
at a higher risk of injury. The popularity of youth sports has caused these multiple effects. The
increase in injuries have widely grown throughout youth sports. As youth sports increased in
popularity there has been a recorded 2.6 million hospital visits related to sports injuries with the youth.
(Merkel, Donna L) Youth minds are still developing during youth football at a very young age, and
continuous blows to the head or throwing in plays, teaching the youth, cause them to put stress on
their brains at a very young age which will affect them in life and school once they grow into their

The House Of Candles Essay
ABSTRACT: Wilfrid Wilson Gibson (1878 1962) occupies a distinct place among Georgian poets.
His name is associated with such poets as Rupert Brooke, Edward Marsh, Walter de la Mare and
Siegfried Sassoon. He has written a large number of poems on diverse themes like nature, love,
unemployment and the sufferings of common people, old age and childhood. Besides, the plight of
women also gets expression in some of his poems like Agatha Steel, The Operation, The Call, The
Wound and many others. The House of Candles is such a poem that deals with the predicament of a
woman in bearing an illegitimate child. Man and woman are equally responsible for the act of sexual
intercourse out of wedlock. If this mating results in pregnancy of woman, it cannot be called an act of
chance or accident. Unfortunately, society is of two minds towards female sexuality and in such
circumstances women are blamed and all the punishment and criticism are meted upon them. No one
cares for the man who is responsible for such condition of a woman. In fact, the society is real culprit
for the predicament of women. In this article, an attempt has been made to discuss Gibson s The

Animal Farm Character Analysis
On a cloudy Wednesday afternoon, I am sitting at the skate park on the bench. I was watching kids
skate around then I suddenly turn my attention on four boys. Three of which are picking on a boy who
is smaller than them because he didn t know the skills nor tricks that they knew. I finally couldn t
stand hearing them pick on him anymore, so I marched over to where they were standing pulled the
boy away from the situation and talked to him about sticking up for himself during anytime that
something like that may occur. I told him that he shouldn t let people walk all over him. In the story
Animal Farm by George Orwell the animals have accomplished a rebellion against the humans to run
them out of the farm. What caused the rebellion was mistreatment against the animals. Napoleon the
main character, then becomes the so called leader of the animals. He has many self conflicts and

everything occurs nearly instantaneously; there are no delays associated with paper work or with
having to deal with consumer service representatives on the phone to verify information. However,
there has been a byproduct of the Internet; people have become impatient more or less and expect
information quicker. After a couple years, e mails were no longer satisfactory. Soon emails were
replaced with instant messengers. However, instant messengers were still limited by a person s ability
to read and type quickly. In order to reduce the length of a message people began using abbreviations,
acronyms, and emoticons. Moreover, sentence structure and grammar are ignored. This new instant
culture along with the writing style of instant messengers has had a profound effect on customs in the
real world. Additionally, since the Internet is not

methods selected by artists usually have something too do with their experiences, opinions and
philosophies. Their life perspective are shaped by their special time and environment and determines
the way they view the world It is what they feel. So life is not simple records of the objective world,
but a mental world. From the above analysis we can see that the grotesque figures in Chen Hongshou s
paintings reflect his mentality and wild emotion. There is a unique beauty in the characters of his

Effects Of Inbreeding On Royal Families
To further investigate the inbreeding and its implications within royal families, studies have been
conducted regarding the Habsburg royal dynasty of Spain, which came to an end after the demise of
Charles II, a severely inbred individual. Charles II, known as El Hechizado (The Hexed) was a
severely disabled man who suffered from mental retardation, learning difficulties and many health
problems. He was short, he had a large head compared to his body size, he had blood in his urine, he
had difficulties chewing his food, and his two wives reported him to be impotent (citation
KIIFHKOBBL). He did not talk until 4 years of age and he did not walk until he was 8 years old. He
was also the victim of two recessive genetic disorders: combined pituitary ... Show more content on

It is such a striking feature in the Ptolemaic family that almost every scholar who had written about
Ptolemaic Egypt commented on the incest that took place between its family members (citation
PERIPD). The royal family resisted marriage with commoners or Egyptians with significantly lower
status and over time the Ptolemies began to abstain from exogamy altogether, marrying within
themselves. One of the main reasons of course, is because committing incest is a symbol of power.
There is also a cultural reason to it as well, derived from myths where the Greek goddess Gaia (Earth)
mated with her son Ouranos (Heaven) and brought order and structure out of chaos. However,
incestuous activity is mainly done to assert power and display dominance; committing the taboo set
the Ptolemies apart from ordinary standard rules of human behaviour (citation PERIPD). There is also
the desire to preserve the purity of royal blood and prevent it from being tainted by commoners and
outsiders. Finding a suitable and high status partner is another reason to participate in inbreeding. With
no other high status equivalent, the Ptolemies turn to their own family members as they are of equal
status and high rank and are sired from the same high class individuals. There is again the cultural
influence where in myths, gods marry each other and because the Ptolemies considered themselves
gods, incest was completely acceptable. Another benefit to incestuous marriage is the control of the
spread of genes. The male has reproductive control over his wife therefore by marrying her he is able
to counteract possible rivals. The relative shares some of the same genes as the king, so by making her
his wife, the king is preventing her from siring offspring with possible rivals and passing on his genes
to outsiders

Essay on A Comparison of Christian and Islamic...
A Comparison of Christian and Islamic Architecture in Spain
By the 6th century a Germanic tribe called the Visigoths, converts to Arian Christianity, had
established themselves as the aristocratic elite. The Christians built many monumental basilica plan
churches. The Santa Maria de Quintanilla de las Vinas, Burgos, Spain and San Juan de Banos de
Cerrato are two such churches that still remain today. In the beginning of the 8th century Islamic
Muslims conquered Spain and ended Visigothic rule. They constructed militaristic and religious
architecture including castles, watchtowers, rock castes, the Great Mosque, and the Red Palace. The
remaining Christians adopted some of the Islamic styles and soon built upon a new style that ended up

The Moors also built atalayas, or watchtowers and rock castles that served as part of the defense
system for the castle. The watchtowers were used as communication devices for castles that were great
distances apart. The watchtowers would signal the castle in case of an enemy attack by using smoke
and mirrors. They built rock castles, or small defense castles high on rocks, using the natural terrain to
the maximum effect. Since the rock castles were small they did not house many soldiers.
Another important Islamic site is situated in Cordoba, southern Spain, along the banks of Guadalquivir
river (the Great River). Cordoba served as the capital of the Caliphate of Cordoba. Cordoba houses the
famous Great Mosque or Gran Mezquita, the largest mosque in the Western World. The interior of the
mosque consisted of a mirhab, a niche that separates the qibla wall from the others. The mirhab was
intentionally positioned facing Mecca for the faithful who prayed in that direction.
The mosque can be identified by its elaborate squinch supported domes. The Great Mosque of
Cordoba is one of the finest surviving examples of Umayyad architecture in Spain. The mosque has
marble capitals and columns in the hypostyle prayer hall. A person enters the hall through an open
courtyard called a sahn. Its famous horseshoe arches have an alternated pattern of pale stone and red
brick voussoirs

Politics And The United States Government
When it comes to the topic of political parties such as Democrats and Republicans, most of our
country will readily agree that they continue to dominate the United States Government. Where this
agreement usually ends, however, is on the question of which political party suits the country best.
Throughout the media, internet, and the general public, there are constant debates on which party
should be in control of the U.S. There is no actual answer to that question. Politics have a huge grip on
the nation, even going as far as hiring journalist that are right winged or left winged in hopes of
getting the reader to side with them. Democrats and Republicans are two different parties with
different views on just about everything when it comes to politics and running the United States. So
some may wonder, well what is a political party in the first place and why does it matter which one to
join? Well according to We The People , an American politics book written by Benjamin Ginsberg,
Theodore J. Lowi, Margaret Weir, Caroline J. Tolbert, and Robert J. Spitzer, their definition of a
political party states, Political parties, like interest groups, are organized groups that attempt to
influence the government by electing their members to government offices. (Ginsberg, 201). The
reason these organized groups we call political parties want their members in government offices, is so
that they can dominate whatever decision needs to be made in Government. Interest groups are

Analysis Of The One Girl At The Boy s Party
Sharon Old s was born on November 19th, 1942 in San Francisco, California. She grew up in a strict
household where her family believed in Calvinism (Christian traditions and principles of John Calvin,
the theologian) for example; they did not watch TV or go to the movies. Her father was an alcoholic
who often beat on his wife, and kids like his father did. Consequently, after completing elementary
school, Sharon went off to an all girls school in Wellesley, Massachusetts. Below is a list of Ms.
Sharon Old s, once she found her interest in reading and poetry: 1964. While attending Stanford

received a Ph.D. in English. 1980. Won the San Francisco Poetry Center Award, for her first collection
of poems called Satan Says .1983. She received the Lamont Poetry Selection and the National Books
Critics Circle Award, for her collection called The Dead and The Living. 1984. She wrote a collection
of 20 poems titled The Children. This paper is focusing on the poem The One Girl at the Boy s Party.
The poem speaks to young women in an environment of all men. Sharon takes the thoughts of this one
girl and depicts it in a way not relatable to girls of the 21st century. This poem can be looked at in
many ways, but it takes a while to figure out. Research is necessary for the period, perspective, and
gender roles.

Impact Of Trade Agreements On An International Scale
I. Introduction
Trade agreements have been around for the past several centuries, and naturally, they have evolved.
Earlier on, they were used exclusively as agreements between nations to reduce tariffs on each other s
products. Tariffs, however, were not the only way a nation could protect its industries. Trade
agreements have evolved to address this situation, and instituted measures to disincentivize
circumvention of the spirit of these agreements. Evolving still, trade agreements have now grown into
massive collectives between nations that regulate more than just trade. Moreover, these agreements
have become political tools to cement solidarity between nations, and are used to harmonize economic
regulation on an international scale. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
More than just economic integration, however, the TPP presented an opportunity for the United States
to alter the economic power dynamics in the Asia Pacific. As the lead on TPP, the United States would
have been able to shape regional trade in the Asian Pacific to its benefit by building a network
surrounding China. Specifically, opening markets to Asia would allow for the United States to craft
the economic rules in the Asian Pacific to preference TPP states, which in effect, would make it harder
for a competing regulatory environment to be enacted.
Obama s stance was rooted in keeping the international status quo while trying to break into Asia and
counteracting China s economic clout in the region. Newly elected President Donald Trump, however,
has already come out and stated his opposition to the TPP; indeed, going so far as to include US
withdrawal from the TPP as part of his agenda for his first day in office.
The TPP has faced public scrutiny during this election year particularly because of the North
American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), which has been decried by the public for some time. Loss
of American jobs has largely fueled the outrage at NAFTA, but other issues exist as well. For example,
TPP provisions on investor rights, like in NAFTA the Investor State Dispute Settlement (ISDS)
process would allow international arbitral bodies to hear challenges to a state s legal rules. This

  • 2. Impulsivity And Its Effect On The Risk Of A Reward Impulsivity has been defined numerous ways, but it is best explained as behavior without adequate thought and can be commonly assessed using a number of different measures. Two measures frequently used are the Barratt Impulsivity Scale (BIS 11) and delayed discounting tasks. The BIS 11 is a self report questionnaire that produces global impulsivity scores and scores on three second order factors: attentional, motor, and non planning. Each subscale of the BIS 11 assesses a different type of impulsivity. The attentional subscale measures an individual s inability to focus attention or concentrate on one subject, motor impulsivity tests action without thinking, and non planning refers to the lack of future orientation. On the other hand, delayed discounting is a behavioral assessment. It is considered a functional measure because it gauges the participants choice in actual scenarios, it does not just ask about it. Discounting pertains to the decrease in the subjective value of a reward as its uncertainty increases or as the delay until its receipt increases (Du et al. 2002). For example, if a reward with the same value can be obtained immediately or after some delay, the individual deciding will choose the immediate reward. Since the Barratt Impulsivity Scale and delayed discounting tasks differ in that the BIS 11 is a self report questionnaire and delayed discounting is a behavior assessment, there is not enough evidence to say they measure the same thing. Therefore, several ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Human Rights in China Essay Human Rights in China One of the first things that come to mind about human rights in China would most likely be the Tiananmen Square massacre, where in 1989 hundreds of student protestors lost their lives to the People s Republic of China. The bloody body of a dead student removed from the street right after the Tiananmen Square crackdown on June 4, 1989. Thereafter, several leaders of the movement were sentenced to long prison terms in late December, and hundreds of others were sentenced to reeducation through labor. Late in the year, according to some reports, the government started confining some Falun Gong adherents to psychiatric hospitals (China Country Report on Human Rights Practices for 1999). The government continued to commit widespread and well documented human rights abuses in violation of internationally accepted terms. These abuses stemmed from the government s extremely limited tolerance of public unrest. The Constitution and laws provide for fundamental human rights however, these rights are often ignored in practice. Abuses included instances of extra judicial killings, torture and mistreatment of prisoners, forced confessions, arbitrary arrest and detention, lengthy incommunicado detention, and denial of due process(Amnesty International. China, violations of human rights). Prison conditions at most facilities remained very harsh. In many cases, especially in sensitive political cases, the judicial system denied criminal defendants basic legal safeguards and due process of the law, merely because authorities attached higher priorities to maintaining public order and suppressing political opposition than to enforcing the legal norms of the country (Amnesty International. • 5. Negative Stereotypes Of Gay Bars And Gay Nightclubs Introduction Since The 1930s, gay bars and gay nightclubs have been around. The bar called the White Horse, in Oakland, California, has been opened since 1933. It is known to be the first gay bar to be opened here in America. Being gay in the 1930s was brutal. Same gender sex was a felony, and being caught in a gay bar could cost someone their job... In a society that viewed gays as barley human, the White Horse allowed a level of freedom that in the 1940s or 1950s was liberating (Duffy 2016). With time changes and people being more accepted, gay bars and gay nightclubs started opening all across America. One of the many gay nightclubs here in Denver is known as Tracks. It was opened in 1980. On October 5th, 2017, an experiential observation at the Tracks nightclub was made. During this experience, it was observed that these people that identified as either gay, lesbian, or bisexual were acting as normal human beings in a heterosexual nightclub. Although the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender movement acts have been created to allow this community to be more open and unafraid, it has had a history of negative stereotypes against LGBT nightclubs which actually benefit this community within psychological components, social components, and dealing with hate crimes towards this community community. The idea development does not being or end with children, however centuries ago no one knew or even care about any type of human development. Such firms often publicize the fact that their products are not made with Anti globalization activists and environmentalists also deplore transfer of heavy industrial manufacturing (such as chemical production) to the developing world. Although chemical factories have little in common with sweatshops in the original sense, detractors describe them as such and claim that there are negative environmental and health impacts (such as pollution and birth defects, respectively) on workers and the local community. Because of the relatively higher value placed on male education, young women are often encouraged by their families to leave school and migrate to urban areas or Export Processing Zones (EPZ) to work in the garment industry. As outsiders in a new community, these young women lack the legal or family support they might receive in their own community and therefore, have to spend a larger amount of income on supporting themselves. Consequently, these young women who are no longer receiving an education often find it hard to earn enough money to send back to their family.[21] The division of labour in sweatshops is gendered because the vast majority of workers are young women. The problems faced by many workers are also gendered because gender based notions of what is acceptable inform working conditions. Thus medical or maternity leave, employer / employee relations and the right to organize can all become gender biased. Consequently, the negative aspects of sweatshops have a disproportionate impact on women. Because of this, some argue that efforts to combat the poor working conditions in sweatshops should focus more on empowering women[citation needed]. Although company led attempts to improve the working conditions in sweatshops such as the Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) have had some successes, others criticize the ETI as gender blind [citation needed]. Four stages form the hero journey: departure, trials, epiphany, and return (the stages do not necessarily occur consecutive with the listing). Death and resurrection of lifestyle and beliefs, spiritual journey, and finally rebirth form hero journey s motif. An archetypal hero pattern is the transformation of the character s conscience through trials and revelations. Lust, fear, and social duties tend to be the main trials heroes face. Although his physical health and social stature have diminished, Job s faith never wavers. The comforters, three friends and a wife, offer Job advice they presume will end his anguish. The friends believe, to be so cursed, Job has sinned horribly and they tell him he must repent his sins so God will forgive him. Job knows he has not sinned and, therefore, does not deserve the torment brought upon him. Since they cannot console him and only increase his frustration, Job desires his friends absence. Socio-Erapo-Social-Work Theory And Social Work Introduction Throughout the social work profession, there is ongoing interest in building a social science agenda that can address the complex practice based questions faced by social work professionals today, says Matto and Goltzman (2010). As a social worker it is vital, to use our tools and skills we have learned in order to assist our clients to the best of our ability and knowledge. Social workers can use models and theories such as the bio psycho social model, development factors, as well as, theoretical perspectives in order to gain a firm understanding of the individual s environment and how it effects their development. • 12. The Survey Method Of Choice For A Researcher There are many situations that make conducting an interview the survey method of choice for a researcher. The interview can be completed face to face, either individually or as part of a focus group, or it can be completed by telephone. All of these methods allow a richer opportunity to gather information in a more open ended fashion, allowing the interviewer to take note of body language, tone of voice, and other aesthetic aspects of the participant. Salant and Dillman (1994) recommend face to face interview surveys when respondents are unlikely to respond willingly or accurately in writing, when the questionnaire is complex, and when projects are well funded and include professional, experienced interviewers. Face to face interviews are generally preferred over telephone interviews, since body language and other nuances can be more closely monitored. Ng and Coakes (2014) point out that not all the data collected will be numerical, and contextual and textual data can also be analyzed. Brace (2004) also makes note that being in the same room allows the interviewer to use prompt cards and other visuals that would be inhibited over the phone. Focus groups, on the other hand, allow the advantage of a face to face meeting while making good use of time and cost by having several people in the room together. • 13. Examples Of Direct Characterization In Of Mice And Men One of the most astounding books Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, took place in one of the darkest time period in American History, the Great Depression. The setting of the book took place in a small country town in Soledad California, near the Salinas River. This book introduces the two main characters, George Milton, and Lennie Small with real life struggles of being migrant farm workers for a ranch. The story opens up with one of the many conflicts that George and Lennie will face throughout the whole story; George and Lennie running away from Weed after feeling a girls red dress. Although Lennie commits certain acts of violence in Of Mice and Men John Steinbeck portrays Lennie Small as having the traits common to the innocent archetype. John Steinbeck portrays Lennie s characterizations through indirect and direct characterizations. Indirect characterization is when the author will describe a person about how they are through context clues but not directly saying it. For example, No whatta want? Let s have different color rabbits George. (Steinbeck 16). That is indirect characterization for Lennie being childish because John Steinbeck does not come straight out and say that Lennie is childish, but readers can tell by the context that he is childish. Direct characterization is when the author comes right out to the readers and says the characters traits. For instance, Behind him walked his opposite, a huge man... (Steinbeck 2). His arrogant and selfish personality makes him an amenity of sir toby, Sir Andrew and Maria who play a cruel trick on him, making him believe Olivia is in love with him. • 18. The Origins Of The United Nations Kofi Annan once said, More than ever before in human history we share a common destiny. We can master it only if we face it together. The origins of the United Nations began seventy years, here, in the United States. In 1945, representatives of 50 countries met in San Francisco at the United Nations Conference. Each delegate deliberated on the proposals by the representatives of China, the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom, and the United States at Dumbarton Oaks starting in August of 1944. The Charter was signed in June of 1945 by each of the fifty one representatives. The U.N. was officialized on October 24 of 1945, after the Charter had been ratified by a majority of other signatories (un.org, 2015) . While the intentions for Franklin D. Roosevelt s coined United Nations was to align the Allied Powers and anyone else against the Axis Powers in World War II, the it s goals are a bit broader now. While we did have a League of Nations before The United Nations, it was put in place after the Paris Peace Conference after the first World War, there wasn t exactly much accomplished. The United Nations now, has four main purposes: maintain international peace and security, develop healthy relations amongst nations, solve international problems and promote human rights. While some agendas are hard to advance, the U.N. has successfully completed several; including peacebuilding in war ridden countries, new enforcement on the issue of climate change, and defending human ... After much success, his quick service chicken restaurant, The Chicken Coop, was seeing a sales decline in 20 of The Coop s 76 stores. The average decline in sales for these 20 stores was 6%. His top two managers, Anita McMichael, VP of Quality and Trevor Wallace, VP of Marketing, were working with Buckmeister to figure out why customers weren t spending as much money in those stores and to determine the best way to correct this problem. There exists the potential of using the results of the surveys to pay bonuses to everyone from line employees to vice presidents. Such an incentive scheme could help focus employee attention on quality and customer satisfaction issues. The purpose of these Customer Experience Studies would be to gather information on how customers viewed their visits to The Coop restaurants. The program would involve using an outside company, which would hire individuals to visit Coop restaurants and the individual would have no knowledge of who was paying for the research. The cost of this would be approximately $20 per visit, or a total of $45,600 for an entire year. While Wallace s ideas are expensive, they will provide The Coop with the most in depth research. When offering recommendations, one has much to consider. Primarily, while Buckmeister s ideas have some potential to be effective, market research cannot be approached with the mindset of providing the business with a quick and easy fix. To truly understand consumers, both of his options are not in depth enough and contain too small of a sample size. I think that each of Buckmeister s ideas should be implemented as they are both relatively inexpensive (focus groups and comment cards) but they must be supplemented by a larger and more in depth form of market research. I believe that McMicheal s suggestion of taste tests should be eliminated from consideration. Sales at The Coop are not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Poverty carries many different definitions, but one that truly encompasses all of its effects is, the unfulfillment of basic human need required to adequately sustain life free from disease, misery, hunger, pain, suffering, hopelessness, and fear (Julio, 76). • 31. The Buzz Saw Poem Analysis A young fellow is cutting kindling with a buzz saw in New England. Close to the end of the day, the kid s sister reports that it is time for supper and, out of exhilaration, the kid unintentionally cuts his hand with the saw. He asks his sister not to enable the specialist to cut away the hand yet deep down understands that he has effectively lost a great deal of blood to survive. The boy passes away while under anesthesia, and everybody backpedals to work. Around 1916 World War I was in progress and a lot of unprepared children had to take the duties of the adults to help out with the households. Frost utilizes the strategy of personification to significantly impact in this poem. The buzz saw, however; a lifeless question is depicted as a discerning being, forcefully growling and rattling as it does its work. At the point when the sister makes the supper declaration, the saw indicates that it has its very own psyche by jumping out of the boy s hand in exhilaration. Frost declines to lay fault for the damage on the boy, who is a young child on the most fundamental level. In spite of faulting the saw, Frost accuses the grown ups at the scene for not interceding and advising the kid to throw in the towel before the mischance happened. Had the kid got an early reason from the workday, he would have refrained from removing his hand and would have been spared from death. Besides, an insignificant half hour break from his employment would have enabled the kid to recapture some portion of his adolescence, if just for a minute. Frost s accentuation on the boy s lack of involvement and blamelessness in this circumstance is especially noteworthy with regards to the day and age. Subsequent to moving to England with his family, Frost was compelled to come back to America as a result of the onset of World War I in 1915, an occasion that would devastate the lives of numerous pure young men. In view of that, this poem can be perused as an investigation of the world occasions that constrained young men to abandon their childhoods and at last be decimated by conditions outside their ability to control. Three of which are picking on a boy who is smaller than them because he didn t know the skills nor tricks that they knew. I finally couldn t stand hearing them pick on him anymore, so I marched over to where they were standing pulled the boy away from the situation and talked to him about sticking up for himself during anytime that something like that may occur. The key to the success of the Internet is the fact that everything occurs nearly instantaneously; there are no delays associated with paper work or with having to deal with consumer service representatives on the phone to verify information. However, there has been a byproduct of the Internet; people have become impatient more or less and expect information quicker. After a couple years, e mails were no longer satisfactory. Soon emails were replaced with instant messengers. However, instant messengers were still limited by a person s ability to read and type quickly. In order to reduce the length of a message people began using abbreviations, acronyms, and emoticons. Moreover, sentence structure and grammar are ignored. This new instant culture along with the writing style of instant messengers has had a profound effect on customs in the real world. Additionally, since the Internet is not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is such a striking feature in the Ptolemaic family that almost every scholar who had written about Ptolemaic Egypt commented on the incest that took place between its family members (citation PERIPD). The royal family resisted marriage with commoners or Egyptians with significantly lower status and over time the Ptolemies began to abstain from exogamy altogether, marrying within themselves. One of the main reasons of course, is because committing incest is a symbol of power. There is also a cultural reason to it as well, derived from myths where the Greek goddess Gaia (Earth) mated with her son Ouranos (Heaven) and brought order and structure out of chaos. However, incestuous activity is mainly done to assert power and display dominance; committing the taboo set the Ptolemies apart from ordinary standard rules of human behaviour (citation PERIPD). There is also the desire to preserve the purity of royal blood and prevent it from being tainted by commoners and outsiders. Finding a suitable and high status partner is another reason to participate in inbreeding. With no other high status equivalent, the Ptolemies turn to their own family members as they are of equal status and high rank and are sired from the same high class individuals. There is again the cultural influence where in myths, gods marry each other and because the Ptolemies considered themselves gods, incest was completely acceptable. Another benefit to incestuous marriage is the control of the spread of genes. The male has reproductive control over his wife therefore by marrying her he is able to counteract possible rivals. The relative shares some of the same genes as the king, so by making her his wife, the king is preventing her from siring offspring with possible rivals and passing on his genes to outsiders ... The Moors also built atalayas, or watchtowers and rock castles that served as part of the defense system for the castle. The watchtowers were used as communication devices for castles that were great distances apart. The watchtowers would signal the castle in case of an enemy attack by using smoke and mirrors. They built rock castles, or small defense castles high on rocks, using the natural terrain to the maximum effect. Since the rock castles were small they did not house many soldiers. Another important Islamic site is situated in Cordoba, southern Spain, along the banks of Guadalquivir river (the Great River). Cordoba served as the capital of the Caliphate of Cordoba. Cordoba houses the famous Great Mosque or Gran Mezquita, the largest mosque in the Western World. The interior of the mosque consisted of a mirhab, a niche that separates the qibla wall from the others. The mirhab was intentionally positioned facing Mecca for the faithful who prayed in that direction. The mosque can be identified by its elaborate squinch supported domes. Earlier on, they were used exclusively as agreements between nations to reduce tariffs on each other s products. Tariffs, however, were not the only way a nation could protect its industries. Trade agreements have evolved to address this situation, and instituted measures to disincentivize circumvention of the spirit of these agreements. As the lead on TPP, the United States would have been able to shape regional trade in the Asian Pacific to its benefit by building a network surrounding China. Specifically, opening markets to Asia would allow for the United States to craft the economic rules in the Asian Pacific to preference TPP states, which in effect, would make it harder for a competing regulatory environment to be enacted. Obama s stance was rooted in keeping the international status quo while trying to break into Asia and counteracting China s economic clout in the region.
