Research Methods For The University Recycling Program
Research Methods We began by creating an interview guide that consisted of four questions. The
interview questions for faculty were different from the ones asked to students. We included questions
regarding participants personal knowledge about recycling, their recycling habits and what their
thoughts about the University recycling programs. In addition, we asked participants to identify ways
they could reduce their paper usage, and if they could suggest something that the University could do
to improve.
We reached saturation after interviewing eight random students; interviews were held at the Taylor
Family Digital Library. Faculty members were chosen randomly and we interviewed two before
reaching saturation. Both faculty members were professors and the interview took place after their
lecture. The questions that we asked relate to our research question, which is what faculty and
students, are doing to help the University of Calgary reduce paper and how can it improve.
Preliminary Results
In general terms, we found that all participants recycle paper. Most recycle on a regular basis.
However, one of the participants mentioned that he only recycles when it is convenient and easy for
him, this means when recycling facilities (i.e. recycling bins) are nearby. In contrast, another
participant stated that she would carry the paper with her until she found the proper bin to throw it in.
All the participants claimed that recycling paper is important to them, and they would

Equus
The evolution of the Equus genus occurred around 4mya (Orland et al., 2014), however the domestic
horse split from the ancestor of the Przewalski horse at around 43 52 thousand years ago (kya) (Orland
et al., 2014; Shubert et al., 2014). HOW PRZEWALSKI IS CONSIDERED WILD. The extinct wild
ancestor of the domestic horse, Equus ferus, is believed to have originated in Northern America before
migrating to Eurasia across the Bering land bridge (Prothero and Schoch, 2002) where they were first
domesticated (Warmuth et al., 2011). Archaeological and genetic evidence both indicate that the horse
was first domesticated in the western Eurasian steppe (Outram et al., 2009; Zeder, 2006; Warmuth et
al., 2011). Another theory states that the Iberian peninsula of northern Africa was an independent
location of horse domestication because of a distinct haplotype (Lusitani C) found only in this region
(Lira et al., 2010). This theory however has not yet been conclusively proved or disproved and
requires further study. Genetic studies indicate that a minimum of 77 mares needed to be domesticated
to ensure genetic diversity for a domesticated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of the oldest evidence for horse domestication, between 5 5.5kya, can be found amongst the
Botai culture of northern Kazakhstan where it is hypothesised that the Botai adopted horse riding as a
technique to better hunt the wild horses that lived in that region. (Levine et al., 2003; Anthony and
Brown, 2000). Archaeological study of Botai settlements reveal pits filled with tens or hundreds of
thousands of bones, the majority (65 99%) of which were horse, and pottery soaked in horse milk fats,

Fate In Sophocles Oedipus The King
Oedipus fell victim to the chaotic brainstorming set forth by fate. Predisposed destiny cannot be
altered, no matter who it affects. In Sophocles Oedipus the King, Oedipus murdered his father,
fathered his own siblings, and married his own mother. The crazy sequence that occurred for those
events to line up called for some tremendous destiny and will, apart from the one of Oedipus. The
tragedy that happens to Oedipus is the result of a calamitous inevitable destined purpose.
Throughout the novel, Sophocles hints numerous times as to the fate and prophecy that surrounds the
great man of power, Oedipus. Oedipus is portrayed as god like throughout the first quartile of the play,
almost unbelievably great. Nothing seems to bother Oedipus other ... Show more content on

Was this feeling the composer that orchestrated his demise?
Railed with nails of titanium, the train tracks Oedipus rode on were set by the men and women
upstairs. Sophocles was an avid religious follower, and recognized the power of the almighty gods and
goddesses. He knew what they could do, and he expressed this through his plays. The debacle of
Oedipus was just another afternoon tea for the deities. From, the day he was conceived, his entire
cruel life was set. Unfortunately, Oedipus the King had no prospect of ever overcoming this looming
prophecy. He lived his life without any major character blemish that could ve led to the formation of a
tragic flaw. He was a great man, kind to his commoners, and loving to his family. He was essentially
on top of the world. He served as a hero to the people of his city when he solved the riddle that
diminished the plague. Any tragic flaw would ve have been evident throughout the many trials the
King has to go through, including when he discovers his prophecy early on. Determined not to harm
anyone intentionally, he migrates to a distant city. Unbeknownst to him, he falls into the trap he
thought he finagled. Ignorance is oblivious bliss for, Fear? What should a

The Importance Of Body Art
First of all, body art can promote the self awareness of people, which means one focuses attention on
himself and understands personal features, feelings and behaviors. Body art has a strong impact on
human vision and soul, because it can always catch the human nature and embodies the publicity of
human nature (Greif, J., Hewitt, 1999). In fact, the body is the most primitive and natural expression
of human beings, and the art of body is an external form of expression, taking the human nature as its
main feature. Since the body art reflects the nature of human body, it enables us to see the truest and
the most essential things in human society. As Hagel said, the body of human is the inner life of the
spirit . The word spirit is a realm yearns for truth, wisdom, cognition, beauty and love, which never
changes or fades. Therefore, on the one hand, body art raises individual conscious. This in turn 3
makes people think about themselves more deeply; understand both themselves and the development
of human nature more clearly. Undoubtedly, human society is able to make a progress by deepening
the understanding of human beings. On the other hand, body art awakens our appreciation of beauty
and the greatness of our creator. Other than showing the external beauty of the human body, body art,
indeed serves as an artistic appreciation. Modern artists borrow the body language to worship,
appreciate the natural life of youth, sing the praises of love and the pursuit of freedom

Perspectives On Voluntary Euthanasia
Voluntary Euthanasia: A Number of Perspectives
The field of ethics exists specifically to help people make moral decisions with a sense of consistency
and equality. Morality and moral decisions are never quite as clear and easily reduced as they appear
to be in text form. The concepts of rights, duties, preferences, cultural sensitivities, the priorities of
individuals and societies at large, all of these come into play when making moral decisions. This is all
the more the case in areas wherein a loss of life is concerned. Death is a large part of life and has
extreme significance in all cultures, which is made all the more complicated when it is caused by one s
own hand.
Voluntary euthanasia is one of the subjects that makes people very uncomfortable, ... Show more

Given that Deontological Ethics are also called Duty Theories (Fieser, 2014), we see that the duties
one has to others are placed in higher esteem than the cessation of one s own suffering. This is
complicated further by the addition of duties to oneself such as the prevention of harm to oneself or
the avoidance of self destruction. A Deontologist who emphasizes the application and respect for
rights might make a decision in either direction, placing the right of one s own choices regarding one s
own life as paramount, or perhaps saying that one s right to life cannot be rescinded by others, which
would make it moral to keep someone alive, even against their wishes. A Deontological ethicist would
most likely say that voluntary euthanasia is an immoral system, as it allows for the violation of one s
duties to others, to oneself, or

It should be noted that some materials exhibit more than one of the above properties and It is better to
use them in combination with conventional material. Sensing Materials 1. Optical Fibers: Fiber optic
sensors with crack monitoring capability have been developed by Wolff and Messelier (1992), Ansari
et al (1993); Voss and Wanser (1994).It is also used to detect moisture content. A sensor for moisture
detection have been developed by Michie et al (1994). 2. Piezoelectric materials: Piezoelectric
materials have two unique properties which are interrelated. When a piezoelectric material is
deformed, it gives off a small but measurable electrical material it experiences a significant increase in
size (up to a 4% change in volume). They are often used to measure fluid compositions, fluid density,
fluid viscosity, or the force of an impact. In stress and pressure sensing, the PVDF materials have been
found to give a better electrical response. Actuating Materials 1.Piezoelectric materials: A
piezoceramic material can be used as a strain sensor by taking advantage of the direct piezoelectric
effect that converts a mechanical action into an electric charge. But the same material can be also used
for actuation applications by using the converse piezoelectric effect that.converts an electrical field
into a mechanical strain. 2. Shape memory alloys: Shape memory alloys (SMA s) are

Essay about UK s Economy in Europe
UK s Economy in Europe
When one talks about a strong economy, a few key economic indicators will get mentioned; inflation,
unemployment and economic growth. These are considered the three main macroeconomic indicators
of any economy.
To define a strong economy in the simplest form you must have a low rate of inflation, low
unemployment and steady economic growth. During this essay there will be comparisons between
other European countries
(e.g. France, Germany, Luxemburg, Belgium, Spain, Italy) and these economic indictors mentioned as
well as others.
We will start to look at inflation rates. The British economy has slowed over the past 12 months, but
remains among the strongest in the developed world, a report has said ... Show more content on

These figures are sure to result in low consumer confidence, a reduction in spending and therefore a
dent in economic growth. Germany s unemployment does normally rise in November due to the
suspension of seasonal employment but it seems there is a pattern of rising joblessness. Since the
terrorist attacks on September 11th and therefore resulting in global economic slowdown there has
been a number of job losses in the UK but this is relative all over Europe. The government is insisting
there are enough vacancies in the system to rule out a return to high unemployment (BBC News
Online). It may be some time before these recent lay offs reach the unemployment figures because
these people will not be claiming benefits right away; this could be described as
Frictional Unemployment. Because consumer spending is keeping the economy afloat, the impact of
unemployment figures could be crucial for the continued growth of the UK economy (BBC News
Online).
Although there seems to be some sort of confusion about unemployment in the UK due to recent lay
offs of workers, it is obvious that there is no real worry as there is in Germany and France and soon to
be released figures should prove this.
Economic growth is a simpler indicator to look at. It measures
National Income. Gordon Brown announced last week in the pre budget report that there has been
solid growth in the UK over the last

Popularised Explanation Of Memory
Memory is a complicated topic to describe, as its role, theory and application differs from person to
person. A popularised explanation of memory involves a tiered or levelled approach, ranging from a
holistic to a reductionist description (Bilkey, 2016). The Social and cultural level of memory refers to
information stored in museums, libraries and oral history. Individual memory is another level of
description, and is specific to the person; what they did that day, or ate for example. At the reductionist
spectrum of memory is the biological level, describing the fundamental process in the body that lead
to memory formation, such as synaptic modulation and information encoding in DNA (Bilkey, 2016).
Whichever level is adopted, three processes

Pharmaceutical Industry Legality Essay
Specify the types of country risks that pharmaceutical firms face in international business. How do the
political and legal systems of countries affect the global pharmaceutical industry? The different types
of country risks for the pharmaceutical firms are: 1. Pricing: Many Asian and African countries are
poor and cannot afford the costly medicines. The Pharmaceutical firms spend vast amounts on R D in
creating and marketing drugs, thus charging high prices enables for cost of capital recovery and profit
generation. 2. Patent related and Generic Competition: The developed countries like US and Europe
have strong patent protection laws which gives a lot of benefits for the pharmaceutical companies.

What is the proper role of the following groups in addressing these dilemmas: National governments,
Branded pharmaceutical firms, and Generic manufacturers? Healthcare is the most important factor
for the growth and well being of any country. If the governments cannot provide subsidies for
healthcare and Pharmaceutical firms just focus of their R D, the other groups can address these issues.
The National governments can play a major role. They have budget and relief funds allotted for the
poor. It can also ask the insurance companies to reduce the premium based on the income of the poor.
If the insurance and health coverage system is initiated by the national governments, the poor can
greatly benefit from this. The branded pharmaceutical firms account for more than 50% of worldwide
pharmaceutical sales. Thus they make huge profits. These profits can be used to fund hospitals in poor
areas. This will not only give the firms respect but also a good recognition. Generic medicines are
cheap and easily available. Though they may not be effective, but they serve the purpose for the poor.
Some generic medicines may not give the desired results but the major diseases which occur among
the poor people can be treated with generic medicines. Consult www.phrma.org, The Pharmaceutical

America The Beautiful By Katharine Bates America The...
One of the most iconic patriotic songs, America The Beautiful was originally written by Katherine Lee
Bates, who was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1970 (Songwriters Hall of Fame) as a
result of her success. The melody, created separately, was produced by choirmaster and organist
Samuel A. Ward. The melody was originally developed for one of his works called Materna . The
poem by Bates and the music by Ward was combined and published in 1910 as the final product,
America the Beautiful . This recording of America the Beautiful is performed by the United States
Navy and Sea Chanters chorus, which adds to its patriotic significance. The original hymn

Two of the pioneers of the IQ testing movement I chose were Alfred Binet (who collaborated with his

Alfred Binet is a French psychologist who is known to have developed the very first practical
intelligence test which became the basis for contemporary intelligence tests. He worked with a young

he was instrumental in bringing the Binet Simon Scale from France to the United States. He adapted
the test which became Stanford Binet Intelligence Test and was widely used that it has become the
standard intelligence testing in the US. This was when the concept of intelligence quotient (or IQ) was
first introduced. Terman also contributed to the development of the first reliable mass group
intelligence test during the World War 1 which was used by the U.S. Army Alpha and Beta programs.
b. What do you think are some potential pros and cons of the use of IQ testing in schools?
There are two opposing sides when it comes to the issue of IQ testing in schools. Many advocates
believe that IQ testing is the best way to identify and assess children s levels of aptitude and that it is
useful in determining who amongst the general school population need additional specialized or
differentiated instruction and extra services (GATE or even IEP) that may not be otherwise be

Sex And The City Of Rome Essay
Sex. It s the taboo. We don t like to talk about it because it makes us uncomfortable, but when
analyzed, it can tell us so much about a society, their core values, and the ideals that controlled their
society. Though the saying is doing it like the Greeks when talking about something perceived explicit
and raunchy, Rome had quiet the culture of sexual back and forth as the Greeks once had, and that
Western culture experiences today. Sex and the city of Rome had complicated lines of what was
acceptable and what was not. Through research, the concept of purity, of both the free roman
bloodline, and the purity of the roles of males and females, serves as a guiding concept when
analyzing what is acceptable and not in ancient Rome. Pudicitia is the core value in Roman sex
culture, and in all cases it is clear that the purity of Roman women, men, and free born bloodline is the
utmost concern.
Both girls and men, however particularly girls, were imagined to uphold pudicitia, a fancy virtue that
will be translated as restraint or chastity. A girl with a high degree of pudicitia, that is, a univira or one
man lady, would ask for above all to seem modest and to limit her social interaction with men apart
from her husband and male relatives. At a similar time, a single lady didn t suffer stigma; within the
higher categories, it had been common and even expected for a single or unmarried lady to espouse.
Pudicitia symbolized reason and goodness, whereas impudicitia that is,

Professional Dancer Research Paper
What qualities are looked for in a professional dancer? Perhaps some people look for a dancer who is
simply talented. Talent is an important quality in a dancer because if a dancer is unable to set
themselves apart based on their talent, it is impossible for them to become discovered in the industry.
Some people think a dancer has to also be smart and able to apply corrections and memorize
choreography efficiently. Without this, the talent of a dancer is wasted. In order to be a competitor, a
dancer must be close to perfect, which comes with applying corrections given to them by a judge.
Another quality looked for could be the dancer s professionalism, or how well the dancer works with
other dancers. As a dancer, you work with many different dancers and choreographers. A dancer needs
to be able to be professional and friendly while working with others. If a dancer is unable to work with
other dancers, the group dances will fail, and if a dancer is unable to work with a choreographer they
can not efficiently learn the choreography. As Dance Magazine s nominee for Dancer of the Year,

The Strength Of The Team
Introduction
Phil Jackson famously stated that The strength of the team is each individual member. The strength of
each member is the team. Given this scenario, I have formulated a series of recommendations to
address the key issues. The case is a prime example of a dysfunctional team trapped in the storming
phase. The team s three core problems are team dysfunctions, intragroup conflicts, and role
ambiguities. In the hopes of resolving these issues, I have developed a strategic approach with
different options and emergency tactics to pursue based upon the results of its first stage.
Individual Member Diagnostic (Couples Therapy)
This team, which features a diverse range of skillsets and personalities, struggles from a lack of
structured communication, misaligned goals, and personal vendettas. I believe that individual
meetings between Tony and each team member need to take place to assess goals, conflicts, and the
optimal team structure from every member s perspective. The team lacks unity primarily due to poorly
set goals, and the private nature of the one on one meetings will allow the team members to openly
express their personal intentions for this project. The meetings provide the opportunity for individual
members to share their views in an unjudging environment similar to a therapy office. It is imperative
that a team structure is found that not only operates efficiently with set goals, but also resolves all
personality and leadership clashes. Specifically, the

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Ontv Channel
4 Advantages:
Of the most significant advantages of ONTV channel is that it put an end to the era where the
government monopolies media, especially with the availability of alternative channels, since the last
nineties, shrinking economic role for governments in most Arab countries, in the light of market trends
in the economy of the future, moreover, The remarkable flow of media across the channel in the
growing strength of the impact of public opinion. Also, there was a magnificent change in the
professional performance of the Arab media level because of the competitions between channels.
5 Disadvantages:
In contrast, ONTV has also some disadvantages, as the channel focuses on local events, which, despite
its importance, its not that association with the Arab media side, therefore, it is out of the competition
in this area.
The increase of the media, proliferation and diversity after the Arab Spring, especially in Egypt, built
over the seriousness and the importance of the role played by the media, especially in the political
field, as sometimes it controls, and sometimes questioned, when it is led by a especially by ... Show

AVID Socratic Seminar
In the module for week two there were several ideas that you can implement in your classroom. For
instance you could try the walk and talk discussion strategy. This strategy simply means that the
students read a selected piece of literature and have a small group discussion about teacher created
topics posted around the room. The resources/idea for this strategy includes identifying main ideas and
develop 4 5 questions pertaining to the ideas. Afterword s you type up questions to be printed out and
placed around the room. You then should secure large sheets of butcher paper or whiteboard space for
the students to write down the groups ideas, once this task is completed make sure you have supplied
each group with dry erase or regular felt tip pens. Aside from this wonderful strategy there was
another traffic strategy that was discussed it was the 4 2 1 method. Students generate four big ideas
from the text. Students then pair with someone else and share their four big ideas. After sharing their
ideas, they must decide which ones from their lists are the 2 big ideas. That pair then pairs up with
another pair and they share their 2 big ideas. That group of 4 must then determine which of the ideas
on their list is the 1 big main idea. Each group ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nonetheless, the AVID Socratic Seminar could be useful method to deploy in the classroom as well.
However as a future teacher I want to utilize hands on methods that get the students engaged in the
classroom. That s not to say that the AVID Socratic Seminar lacks engagement from the students it
does that by allowing students the opportunities to examine a common piece of text, whether it is in
the form of a novel, poem, art print, or piece of music. Unlike the above two strategies this one
involves a stationary setting. I prefer as a teacher to engage students and get them to move around and

Demi Lovato Analysis
Later on in her career, Demi Lovato kept talking about her mental illness and trying to inspire her fans
and help people who s going through the same thing seek for help like she did. After some years she
released her fourth album DEMI which includes the song Warrior . Warrior is one of the songs the
most describe what she s been through and how strong she is now, and how she overcame all the
things that has happened to her. In the song Warrior before the chorus, she says, All the pain and the
truth I wear like a battle wound . Everything she s been through she thinks that can make her stronger
and it s a battle that she won and she will never have to fight again. At the end of the chorus, she
states, And my armor, is made of steel,

The Beef With Antibiotics
The Beef with Antibiotics
In recent years, Americans have been blaming antibiotics used in animals to be processed for food for
many of the growing number of health problems in developed countries. Fast food restaurants are
making movements to remove antibiotic treated meats from their menus. This movement is causing
quite the stir in consumers and livestock producers alike. Do the antibiotics used in beef really
contribute to antibiotic resistant diseases? Should antibiotics be outlawed in the use of farm animals?
The eradication of antibiotic use in America s beef industry is not feasible due to its usage in the
treatment and control of deadly or discomforting diseases.
Presently, speculations have risen about the amount of antibiotics used in the livestock industry and
the desire to consume antibiotic free meats. What is not understood, however, is the USDA has been
monitoring the amount of antimicrobial residue in meats for several years. If unsafe levels are detected
the meat is not allowed to be sold for human consumption. Yet, fast food chains such as Subway and
Chipotle are claiming to go completely antibiotic free within the next decade. The practicality of this
becoming a reality is slim due to the need to control, treat, and prevent diseases. To truly understand
the importance of the antibiotic usage in cattle it must first be understood what antibiotics are and the
reasons they are used. Additionally, the use of vaccinations should be taken into account for the

Prejudice In Pride And Prejudice
Are there both good and bad types of pride and prejudice? In her book, Pride and Prejudice, Jane
Austen demonstrates the different kinds of these chracteristics through each character. Lizzy, Jane, and
Darcy are all completely different characters who show their pride and prejudice in completely
different ways. Since the very beginning of the book, Elizabeth Bennet, who is also known as Lizzy,
was very quick to judge, and her prejudice led her to believe in the wrong people. When Lizzy met
Mr. Wickham she instantly believed his story about Darcy; perhaps it was because she already disliked
him. He told her that he had grown up with Mr. Darcy and that he was quite prideful. Wickham
continued to say that Darcy had wronged him in a tremendous way and of course Lizzy ... Show more

Darcy was very misunderstood as his first impression at the dance in Netherfield was not very good.
Elizabeth and all the other people in the town saw him as prideful; however, Darcy shows later on in
the book that he is just not very good with people. He explained to Elizabeth that the story Wickham
told her was actually a lie. Darcy began with the true story like this: he gave Wickham money to study
law but Wickham spent all of his money on other things. Coming back to Darcy, he asked for more
money and after refusing, Wickham deceived Darcy s sister into elopement. When Darcy found out,
he convinced Georgiana, his sister, not to follow through. After finding out this story and hearing
Darcy explain his past actions to her, Lizzy realized how wrong she was and that she let her prejudice
get in the way. After reading and understanding the whole story, the reader can tell which characters
let their pride or prejudice consume them. Elizabeth always judged people by their first impressions.
She began to love Wickham who turned out to be a fraud, and she hated Darcy all because he was shy
and misunderstood. Prejudice in Elizabeth s case is in fact bad. However Jane s prejudice was on a

Optical Properties Of Thick Metal Nanohole Arrays
2. Optical properties of thick metal nanohole arrays fabricated by electron beam and nanosphere
lithography.
INTRODUCTION
Extraordinary optical transmission (EOT) through nanohole arrays has been concentrated broadly in
several aspects, including the hypothesis and confirmation of its origin parameters influencing its
intensity, the optical properties, for example like its transmission spectra and divergence. Several
parameters including the refractive index of the medium on the metal film surface, the wavelength and
condition of polarization of the incident light, the holes shape and periodicity of the structures change
the spectral behavior in term of intensity and position of the transmitted peaks. The structures that
support EOT have discovered their applications in numerous fields including visible spectroscopy,
Raman spectroscopy, sub wavelength optics, nonlinear optics, and photolithography. As the EOT is
influenced by parameters like the shape and periodicity of the holes, devices made in light of this
marvel will be more sensitive and supports larger selectivity. Regardless of these advantages a large
portion of existing use of EOT has been acknowledged on the structures with limited region of
coverage. Because of the constrained techniques and choices for fabrication of such structures, the
EOT based devices were fabricated with finite array sizes. This paper deals with two methods that
deals with two methods to produce arrays of nanoholes with sizes of

Control Of Rome In Julius Caeser s Julius Caesar
In Julius Caeser, a play by William Shakespeare, Julius Caeser takes control of Rome, but in the
process, is vanquished by conspirators that believed he would not be a good leader. Once murdering
Caeser was completed, Mark Antony, a good friend of Caeser and a high ranking military official in
the Roman army, enters the scene and asks to speak at Caeser s funeral after Brutus, one of the
conspirators and another very good friend and nephew of the deceased president of Rome. Brutus
accepts, and the two speak to the people of Rome with varying viewpoints on the death of their friend.

Since facts are inarguable, when the two brought facts into the middle of their speeches the people
could not put up a fight with their opinions to argue versus the facts they set forth or the logic the men

base that would be a bondman? He is asking in the context that he is making the men and women
believe Caeser could have made them all slaves if he became a king of Rome, and he is making sure to
ask this question in a way that speaking against his statement would immediately bring ridicule
towards whom speaks. Antony, on the other hand, uses a past event that all of them had seen evidence
to support against Brutus point about Caeser deserving to die because of his ambition: I thrice
presented him a kingly crown, which he did thrice refuse. Was this ambition? (III:ii:94 95) With the
way Antony presents himself, if the people he is speaking to watched him attempt presenting Caeser a
kingship over Rome and also watched him refuse, how can they argue? Also, how could they see that
as ambitious? This further strengthens Antony s defense against

Industrialization and Immigration Essay
An outburst in growth of America s big city population, places of 100,000 people or more jumped
from about 6 million to 14 million between 1880 and 1900, cities had become a world of newcomers
(551). America evolved into a land of factories, corporate enterprise, and industrial worker and, the
surge in immigration supplied their workers. In the latter half of the 19th century, continued
industrialization and urbanization sparked an increasing demand for a larger and cheaper labor force.
The country s transformation from a rural agricultural society into an urban industrial nation attracted
immigrants worldwide. As free land and free labor disappeared and as capitalists dominated the
economy, dramatic social, political, and economic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Likewise, the government began to play an active role as there was a burst of enthusiasm for scientific
investigation. Statistical studies by the federal government of immigration, child labor, and economic
practices; social research by privately funded foundations delving into industrial conditions; vice
commissions in many cities looking in prostitution, gambling, and other moral ills of an urban society
(598).
Not only did a big portion of the urban working class experience unsuitable working conditions, but
their pay and skill level was often not enough to promote them out of industrial employment.
Employees found themselves trapped with employers and earning low wages, with many hovering in
the poverty range. Reform was necessary to help the poor. Now, with the strife torn 1890s behind
them, reform became an absorbing concern of many Americans (597).
As the nation came to grips with what mechanization had done to the labor force, the progressivists
took an active approach to correct problems they encountered. They began a tax on corporations
(612). Roosevelt was troubled by the threat posed by big businesses to competitive markets (615) and
showed disdain for those who sought profit by betraying the public (613). They aimed to strip power
of the employers and sought to advance the undermined working

Venus Bust Analysis
For my project, I have recreated a bust of Venus. A bust is a sculpture of a person s head, shoulders,
and chest. This allows you to include very intricate details and helps you achieve a goal in realism.
There were many sculptures of Venus in ancient Rome, including the Venus Genetrix, meaning
Mother Venus in Latin. I chose to create a bust so I could, too, focus on the intricate details, though
my version is very small, it might have been less accurate had I done the Venus Genetrix. Venus busts
like this one have been used for many garden decorations and household decorations in general.
The sculpture I chose to recreate is a bust of Venus. Venus is the goddess of love, prosperity, fertility,
victory, and beauty. Her greek form is Aphrodite. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was actually hard in this way not to find Greek artwork, but since Venus is a Roman goddess, this
was a good choice for me. The Romans didn t believe that a recreation of a work of art was any less
valuable than the first piece of art. We disagree with this today, but they added slight modifications to
their recreations. Roman art liked to recreate Greek art with those slight modifications, like recreating
bronzes (some of which are now lost) in marble. Some variations could be something other than
medium, though. Sometimes the purpose was to add a bit of humor! This added a lot of Roman to
Greek art, which was originally somber and serious. The Romans used a variety of media in their
artwork. Some include marble, painting, mosaic, gems, silver and bronze work, terracottas, and more!
The original bust that I chose to recreate is made of reconstituted resin, but I chose air dry clay to
finish faster and to have a close model to the original bust.
The Roman Republic was also a great year for Roman Art. Lots of art was produced then because of
the many things happening in the republic and in the military. While this idea is not portrayed in the
bust, the equestrian statue honoring a military hero or civic leader was an idea created by the Romans.
Lots of things happened in this period of time, the start and fall of the Roman republic, and the
beginning of the peaceful period of time we know as the Pax

Meaning Of The Movie Big Fish
In the movie Big Fish quotes are very important to the meaning of the movie and the motivation for
the quotes being included. The first quote I chose is, The truth is, I didn t see anything of myself in my

Edward And Will have a bad relationship, they do not have that close father son relationship that they
should have. He does not see that connection of I want to be just like my dad or any kind of
connection in general. They went without talking or seeing each other for three and that is not normal
for a dad and son. A lot of people in real life have bad relationship with their parents and that is sad.

Group I, Category 41 Insufficient Medical Documentation to Determine Impairment Severity ISSUE
Additional evidence and documentation is needed to determine the degree of the severity imposed by
the claimant s psychological condition. CASE DISCUSSION POLICY ANALYSIS (INCLUDING

migraines without aura, typical aura with migraines, migraines with basilar type aura, sporadic
hemiplegic migraines, bell s palsy, atypical chest pain, silent myocardial infarction, sleep apnea and
seizure like activity. The evidence in file shows the claimant has a history of migraines since 2009. An
office note on 06/24/16 states that claimant has multiple type of migraine headaches including typical
migraine with and without aura; migraine with basilar type aura; and occasional hemiplegic migraine.

However, it is unclear whether the headaches have persisted at the noted on the office visit on 1/14/14.
A more complete longitudinal record is needed to determine whether the claimant s headache
frequency remained at listing level for at least 12 months despite treatment. If the headache frequency
described in the 06/24/16 progress note can be confirmed back to the AOD, the intent of listing 11.03
would be satisfied. DI 24505.015.B2. indicates if the claimant has an impairment not described in the
listing of impairments we will compare their findings with those for closely analogous listed
impairments. If the findings related to the claimant s impairment are at least of equal medical
significance to those of a listed impairment, we determine their impairment is medically equivalent to
the most closely analogous listing. In this case, the findings of the claimant s impairment are very
similar to those of 11.03. However, at this time duration is

Patriarchy Of Ephesians
Often times, when the term Head is used in a marriage, such as, the husband is the head of the wife, it
stimulates the perception of the husbands being the dominate force in the relationship, having
authority, control, and power. However, Apostle Paul s message to the Ephesians was to institute
structure within a close and intimate union, or some form of social institution marking a commitment
between individuals to live as a family, which is recognized as a blueprint of Christ s love for the
church. That being said, there are three forms of social organization: A patriarchy, which the father is
the supreme authority. Matriarchy, is when the mother is the dominant authority. Lastly, equalitarian
family is one with shared control, with neither

My Day Of School After Winter Break
Numb Toes and Good Times
There are not many things I love more than the smell of pine trees, the cold brisk wind of the first
snowfall, and the joy of Christmas time. I can see myself now, getting released on my last day of
school before winter break. Second grade might not have been a struggle, but a couple weeks off of
school was just what a little me needed. I trudged home through the snow and slush. The sidewalks
were almost non existent in Michigan winters; you had to search for footprints made by others or risk
a rolled ankle. Muddy slush seeped into my snow boots, yet still I had a grin peeled across my face.
This smile was mostly a result of the day approaching, December 25th. Christmas mostly meant a
couple things to me when I was little, presents, candy, and my favorite vacation out west to the
mountains. The Christmas card had already sent out that year, it was all seven of us; heads morphed
onto the Little Rascals characters. At the time this was probably relatively funny, but now it s pretty
much just embarrassing. The poems on the cards were always the best, I m sure my second grader
friends couldn t interpret the jokes my mom wrote, but their moms would. We would start planning
our Christmas cards around September, it was way too early but I guess it was necessary, to create a
comic masterpiece. I never understood how she made everything rhyme and flow so well, it still
amazes me to this day.
When I finally made it home, like clockwork, my mom yelled at me

National Association For Gifted Students
The era of the 1950s and 1960s ushered in new priorities for the education of America s students as
well as the social, judicial, political and organizational structure of our nation s schools. Some of the
challenges that the educational system faced were facilitated by federal and state interventions.
Interventions such as The National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) No Child Left Behind,
(NCLB) and Every Student Succeed Act (ESSA) are just a few federal and state interventions that had
a tremendous impact on the way we educate and motivate children to learn.

downside to this movement is that students were being pushed to meet the average standard and it left

Pros And Cons Of Human Trafficking
Human trafficking has become one and the same with prostitution and sex work. However human
trafficking engulfs other types such as labor trafficking which involves the obtaining, harboring,
recruitment, and transportation of people for labor or services. These are the two types most thought of
but there are eight classifications of human trafficking, and they include: forced labor, sex trafficking,
bonded labor, debt bondage among migrants, involuntary domestic servitude, forced child soldiers,
and child sex trafficking (Dalton, 2013). These types of human trafficking are modern day slavery and
they are not an isolated problem, it occurs all over the world and generates billions of dollars in
revenue. Over the past decade the internet has given growth and expansion to this issue of human
trafficking through websites such as Backpage and Craigslist. These are just a few of the sites used in
the solicitation of humans.
The issue has become whether we can hold these third parties criminally liable in these cases. The
Communication Decency Act attempts to regulate indecent and obscene material on the internet but
Section 230 of this Act states that operators of internet service cannot be held liable for the words third
parties the utilize their services. This has only been denied when the website actually had a part in the
design and publication of the advertisements used in human trafficking. Organizations have banned
with websites in support of this fight. They

  • 2. Research Methods For The University Recycling Program Research Methods We began by creating an interview guide that consisted of four questions. The interview questions for faculty were different from the ones asked to students. We included questions regarding participants personal knowledge about recycling, their recycling habits and what their thoughts about the University recycling programs. In addition, we asked participants to identify ways they could reduce their paper usage, and if they could suggest something that the University could do to improve. We reached saturation after interviewing eight random students; interviews were held at the Taylor Family Digital Library. Faculty members were chosen randomly and we interviewed two before reaching saturation. Both faculty members were professors and the interview took place after their lecture. The questions that we asked relate to our research question, which is what faculty and students, are doing to help the University of Calgary reduce paper and how can it improve. Preliminary Results In general terms, we found that all participants recycle paper. Most recycle on a regular basis. However, one of the participants mentioned that he only recycles when it is convenient and easy for him, this means when recycling facilities (i.e. recycling bins) are nearby. In contrast, another participant stated that she would carry the paper with her until she found the proper bin to throw it in. All the participants claimed that recycling paper is important to them, and they would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Equus The evolution of the Equus genus occurred around 4mya (Orland et al., 2014), however the domestic horse split from the ancestor of the Przewalski horse at around 43 52 thousand years ago (kya) (Orland et al., 2014; Shubert et al., 2014). HOW PRZEWALSKI IS CONSIDERED WILD. The extinct wild ancestor of the domestic horse, Equus ferus, is believed to have originated in Northern America before migrating to Eurasia across the Bering land bridge (Prothero and Schoch, 2002) where they were first domesticated (Warmuth et al., 2011). Archaeological and genetic evidence both indicate that the horse was first domesticated in the western Eurasian steppe (Outram et al., 2009; Zeder, 2006; Warmuth et al., 2011). Another theory states that the Iberian peninsula of northern Africa was an independent location of horse domestication because of a distinct haplotype (Lusitani C) found only in this region (Lira et al., 2010). This theory however has not yet been conclusively proved or disproved and requires further study. Genetic studies indicate that a minimum of 77 mares needed to be domesticated to ensure genetic diversity for a domesticated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some of the oldest evidence for horse domestication, between 5 5.5kya, can be found amongst the Botai culture of northern Kazakhstan where it is hypothesised that the Botai adopted horse riding as a technique to better hunt the wild horses that lived in that region. • 4. Fate In Sophocles Oedipus The King Oedipus fell victim to the chaotic brainstorming set forth by fate. Predisposed destiny cannot be altered, no matter who it affects. In Sophocles Oedipus the King, Oedipus murdered his father, fathered his own siblings, and married his own mother. The crazy sequence that occurred for those events to line up called for some tremendous destiny and will, apart from the one of Oedipus. The tragedy that happens to Oedipus is the result of a calamitous inevitable destined purpose. Throughout the novel, Sophocles hints numerous times as to the fate and prophecy that surrounds the great man of power, Oedipus. Oedipus is portrayed as god like throughout the first quartile of the play, almost unbelievably great. Nothing seems to bother Oedipus other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Was this feeling the composer that orchestrated his demise? Railed with nails of titanium, the train tracks Oedipus rode on were set by the men and women upstairs. Sophocles was an avid religious follower, and recognized the power of the almighty gods and goddesses. He knew what they could do, and he expressed this through his plays. The debacle of Oedipus was just another afternoon tea for the deities. From, the day he was conceived, his entire cruel life was set. Unfortunately, Oedipus the King had no prospect of ever overcoming this looming prophecy. He lived his life without any major character blemish that could ve led to the formation of a tragic flaw. He was a great man, kind to his commoners, and loving to his family. He was essentially on top of the world. He served as a hero to the people of his city when he solved the riddle that diminished the plague. Any tragic flaw would ve have been evident throughout the many trials the King has to go through, including when he discovers his prophecy early on. Determined not to harm anyone intentionally, he migrates to a distant city. Unbeknownst to him, he falls into the trap he thought he finagled. Ignorance is oblivious bliss for, Fear? • 6. The Importance Of Body Art First of all, body art can promote the self awareness of people, which means one focuses attention on himself and understands personal features, feelings and behaviors. Body art has a strong impact on human vision and soul, because it can always catch the human nature and embodies the publicity of human nature (Greif, J., Hewitt, 1999). In fact, the body is the most primitive and natural expression of human beings, and the art of body is an external form of expression, taking the human nature as its main feature. Since the body art reflects the nature of human body, it enables us to see the truest and the most essential things in human society. As Hagel said, the body of human is the inner life of the spirit . The word spirit is a realm yearns for truth, wisdom, cognition, beauty and love, which never changes or fades. Therefore, on the one hand, body art raises individual conscious. This in turn 3 makes people think about themselves more deeply; understand both themselves and the development of human nature more clearly. Undoubtedly, human society is able to make a progress by deepening the understanding of human beings. On the other hand, body art awakens our appreciation of beauty and the greatness of our creator. Other than showing the external beauty of the human body, body art, indeed serves as an artistic appreciation. Modern artists borrow the body language to worship, appreciate the natural life of youth, sing the praises of love and the pursuit of freedom ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Perspectives On Voluntary Euthanasia Voluntary Euthanasia: A Number of Perspectives The field of ethics exists specifically to help people make moral decisions with a sense of consistency and equality. Morality and moral decisions are never quite as clear and easily reduced as they appear to be in text form. The concepts of rights, duties, preferences, cultural sensitivities, the priorities of individuals and societies at large, all of these come into play when making moral decisions. This is all the more the case in areas wherein a loss of life is concerned. Death is a large part of life and has extreme significance in all cultures, which is made all the more complicated when it is caused by one s own hand. Voluntary euthanasia is one of the subjects that makes people very uncomfortable, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Given that Deontological Ethics are also called Duty Theories (Fieser, 2014), we see that the duties one has to others are placed in higher esteem than the cessation of one s own suffering. This is complicated further by the addition of duties to oneself such as the prevention of harm to oneself or the avoidance of self destruction. A Deontologist who emphasizes the application and respect for rights might make a decision in either direction, placing the right of one s own choices regarding one s own life as paramount, or perhaps saying that one s right to life cannot be rescinded by others, which would make it moral to keep someone alive, even against their wishes. A Deontological ethicist would most likely say that voluntary euthanasia is an immoral system, as it allows for the violation of one s duties to others, to oneself, or ... When a piezoelectric material is deformed, it gives off a small but measurable electrical material it experiences a significant increase in size (up to a 4% change in volume). They are often used to measure fluid compositions, fluid density, fluid viscosity, or the force of an impact. In stress and pressure sensing, the PVDF materials have been found to give a better electrical response. Actuating Materials 1.Piezoelectric materials: A piezoceramic material can be used as a strain sensor by taking advantage of the direct piezoelectric effect that converts a mechanical action into an electric charge. These are considered the three main macroeconomic indicators of any economy. To define a strong economy in the simplest form you must have a low rate of inflation, low unemployment and steady economic growth. During this essay there will be comparisons between other European countries (e.g. France, Germany, Luxemburg, Belgium, Spain, Italy) and these economic indictors mentioned as well as others. We will start to look at inflation rates. The British economy has slowed over the past 12 months, but remains among the strongest in the developed world, a report has said ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These figures are sure to result in low consumer confidence, a reduction in spending and therefore a dent in economic growth. Germany s unemployment does normally rise in November due to the suspension of seasonal employment but it seems there is a pattern of rising joblessness. Since the terrorist attacks on September 11th and therefore resulting in global economic slowdown there has been a number of job losses in the UK but this is relative all over Europe. The government is insisting there are enough vacancies in the system to rule out a return to high unemployment (BBC News Online). It may be some time before these recent lay offs reach the unemployment figures because these people will not be claiming benefits right away; this could be described as Frictional Unemployment. Because consumer spending is keeping the economy afloat, the impact of unemployment figures could be crucial for the continued growth of the UK economy (BBC News Online). Although there seems to be some sort of confusion about unemployment in the UK due to recent lay offs of workers, it is obvious that there is no real worry as there is in Germany and France and soon to be released figures should prove this. Economic growth is a simpler indicator to look at. It measures National Income. Gordon Brown announced last week in the pre budget report that there has been solid growth in the UK over the last ... A popularised explanation of memory involves a tiered or levelled approach, ranging from a holistic to a reductionist description (Bilkey, 2016). The Social and cultural level of memory refers to information stored in museums, libraries and oral history. Individual memory is another level of description, and is specific to the person; what they did that day, or ate for example. At the reductionist spectrum of memory is the biological level, describing the fundamental process in the body that lead to memory formation, such as synaptic modulation and information encoding in DNA (Bilkey, 2016). • 18. Sex And The City Of Rome Essay Sex. It s the taboo. We don t like to talk about it because it makes us uncomfortable, but when analyzed, it can tell us so much about a society, their core values, and the ideals that controlled their society. Though the saying is doing it like the Greeks when talking about something perceived explicit and raunchy, Rome had quiet the culture of sexual back and forth as the Greeks once had, and that Western culture experiences today. Sex and the city of Rome had complicated lines of what was acceptable and what was not. Through research, the concept of purity, of both the free roman bloodline, and the purity of the roles of males and females, serves as a guiding concept when analyzing what is acceptable and not in ancient Rome. Pudicitia is the core value in Roman sex culture, and in all cases it is clear that the purity of Roman women, men, and free born bloodline is the utmost concern. Both girls and men, however particularly girls, were imagined to uphold pudicitia, a fancy virtue that will be translated as restraint or chastity. A girl with a high degree of pudicitia, that is, a univira or one man lady, would ask for above all to seem modest and to limit her social interaction with men apart from her husband and male relatives. At a similar time, a single lady didn t suffer stigma; within the higher categories, it had been common and even expected for a single or unmarried lady to espouse. • 19. Professional Dancer Research Paper What qualities are looked for in a professional dancer? Perhaps some people look for a dancer who is simply talented. Talent is an important quality in a dancer because if a dancer is unable to set themselves apart based on their talent, it is impossible for them to become discovered in the industry. Some people think a dancer has to also be smart and able to apply corrections and memorize choreography efficiently. Without this, the talent of a dancer is wasted. In order to be a competitor, a dancer must be close to perfect, which comes with applying corrections given to them by a judge. Another quality looked for could be the dancer s professionalism, or how well the dancer works with other dancers. As a dancer, you work with many different dancers and choreographers. A dancer needs to be able to be professional and friendly while working with others. If a dancer is unable to work with other dancers, the group dances will fail, and if a dancer is unable to work with a choreographer they can not efficiently learn the choreography. • 20. The Strength Of The Team Introduction Phil Jackson famously stated that The strength of the team is each individual member. The strength of each member is the team. Given this scenario, I have formulated a series of recommendations to address the key issues. The case is a prime example of a dysfunctional team trapped in the storming phase. The team s three core problems are team dysfunctions, intragroup conflicts, and role ambiguities. In the hopes of resolving these issues, I have developed a strategic approach with different options and emergency tactics to pursue based upon the results of its first stage. Individual Member Diagnostic (Couples Therapy) This team, which features a diverse range of skillsets and personalities, struggles from a lack of structured communication, misaligned goals, and personal vendettas. I believe that individual meetings between Tony and each team member need to take place to assess goals, conflicts, and the optimal team structure from every member s perspective. The team lacks unity primarily due to poorly set goals, and the private nature of the one on one meetings will allow the team members to openly express their personal intentions for this project. The meetings provide the opportunity for individual members to share their views in an unjudging environment similar to a therapy office. It is imperative that a team structure is found that not only operates efficiently with set goals, but also resolves all personality and leadership clashes. Specifically, the ... The resources/idea for this strategy includes identifying main ideas and develop 4 5 questions pertaining to the ideas. Afterword s you type up questions to be printed out and placed around the room. The Beef With Antibiotics The Beef with Antibiotics In recent years, Americans have been blaming antibiotics used in animals to be processed for food for many of the growing number of health problems in developed countries. Fast food restaurants are making movements to remove antibiotic treated meats from their menus. This movement is causing quite the stir in consumers and livestock producers alike. Do the antibiotics used in beef really contribute to antibiotic resistant diseases? Should antibiotics be outlawed in the use of farm animals? The eradication of antibiotic use in America s beef industry is not feasible due to its usage in the treatment and control of deadly or discomforting diseases. Presently, speculations have risen about the amount of antibiotics used in the livestock industry and the desire to consume antibiotic free meats. What is not understood, however, is the USDA has been monitoring the amount of antimicrobial residue in meats for several years. If unsafe levels are detected the meat is not allowed to be sold for human consumption. Yet, fast food chains such as Subway and Chipotle are claiming to go completely antibiotic free within the next decade. The practicality of this becoming a reality is slim due to the need to control, treat, and prevent diseases. In her book, Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen demonstrates the different kinds of these chracteristics through each character. Since the very beginning of the book, Elizabeth Bennet, who is also known as Lizzy, was very quick to judge, and her prejudice led her to believe in the wrong people. INTRODUCTION Extraordinary optical transmission (EOT) through nanohole arrays has been concentrated broadly in several aspects, including the hypothesis and confirmation of its origin parameters influencing its intensity, the optical properties, for example like its transmission spectra and divergence. Several parameters including the refractive index of the medium on the metal film surface, the wavelength and condition of polarization of the incident light, the holes shape and periodicity of the structures change the spectral behavior in term of intensity and position of the transmitted peaks. The structures that support EOT have discovered their applications in numerous fields including visible spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, sub wavelength optics, nonlinear optics, and photolithography. As the EOT is influenced by parameters like the shape and periodicity of the holes, devices made in light of this marvel will be more sensitive and supports larger selectivity. Regardless of these advantages a large portion of existing use of EOT has been acknowledged on the structures with limited region of coverage. Because of the constrained techniques and choices for fabrication of such structures, the EOT based devices were fabricated with finite array sizes. The Romans didn t believe that a recreation of a work of art was any less valuable than the first piece of art. We disagree with this today, but they added slight modifications to their recreations. Roman art liked to recreate Greek art with those slight modifications, like recreating bronzes (some of which are now lost) in marble. Some variations could be something other than medium, though.
