Penzias And Wilson Research Paper
Juliette Akinboboye Sister Bigler FDSCI 101 3.2.201 Cosmic Microwave Background When looking

Exotic Pet Ownership
Humans should be allowed to do anything that they re capable of doing. Therefore, if humans can
tame/control an exotic animal to satisfy our own needs humans should be able to. It s believed that the
ownership of exotic pets should either be banned, or it should have increased license requirements to
own an exotic pet. The main things that should be considered are: what it restricts, why not to place
restrictions, why restrictions are considered. Getting a license is a precaution placed in order to ensure
that the owner is acceptable to take care of an exotic animal. Someone looking to own an exotic pet
should require a license no matter the state. States should also not ban the ownership of these exotic
pets for that s restrictive on human aspirations. Restricting human choice shouldn t be acceptable
unless a human s choice(s) reduces another s capabilities. Humans are at a point where nothing is
above our species, therefore, if the capabilities of these exotic animals aren t enough to keep them
from us, then humans do whatever they like. Currently, the issue isn t what it seems. The licences to
own exotic pets vary widely in terms of requirements placed on the owner and the amount of ... Show

true desire of theirs to own a pet then they need to use their capabilities to reach the required income
to obtain a license. These pets can be expensive, but they shouldn t be restricted from us as free willed

Sense Of Sublimity In Alfred Hitchcock s The Birds
Popular phrases such as Well, that s beyond me . . . What racks my brain is . . . or I can t wrap my
head around that are simple contemporary idioms inadvertently attempting to communicate a sense of
confusion, wonder, and admiration, though not without a touch of fear (Janowitz). Words perhaps not
commonly used to describe Alfred Hitchcock s classic which is nearing its fifty fifth birthday. Yet, the
campy, middle aged, prototypal film remains unsettling, frightening, and substantially sublime.
Therefore, what exactly cements this film in infamy? What makes its presence essential to the libraries
of eco critic s far and wide? Well, The Birds utilizes Hitchcock s crafty use of common cinematic
techniques to conjure a sustaining sense of sublimity; the bird s infiniteness, their bouts of terrorism,
and their symbolism illustrates several character s conflicts and loss of power permeating throughout
the film with climatic moments illuminated by his many artful methods.
For instance, Hitchcock initially builds a sense of sublimity by accumulating birds in a way that
represent the incomprehensibility and infiniteness of nature a characteristic of a sublimity. His attempt
to illustrate infinity fills the mind with a sort of delightful horror (Burke). The choice to reiterate the
very concept is shown in the first setting in which the movie takes place: San Francisco. A place
crowded with people, architecture, and a general absence of nature only shown to be caged or
encircling the citizens below. The birds are suspiciously swarming the sky and only one citizens take
notice the main character, Melanie. She is particularly caught by the commotion in the sky pausing to
ponder their existence, only briefly, and then finally entering the bird shop. This minor event is
important to the foreshadowing of dramatic action and the explanation of the bird s existence.
Nonetheless, a better more riveting technique is explored later in the film.
Hitchcock s ability to accumulate suspense not only throughout his film but in compressed context,
too, is impressive. The famous scene where Melanie is waiting for Mitch s sister to be released from
school exemplifies his ability. The dramatic irony of the scene is the

A Model Transformation Approach For Mobile Application
Nowadays, there is no stable model transformation approach for mobile application. Model
transformation is one of the prominent features and the rising research area of Model Driven
Engineering (MDE). There is still gap between software designer and developer because of the
heavyweight of graphical modeling language like Unified Modeling Language (UML). The textual
modeling language attempts to fill the gap between modeling and implementing in the development
lifecycle. The proposed research work intends to transform text based model oriented program to
mobile application. UML Programming Language (Umple) uses the concept of textual modeling as a
technique to reduce differences between the model and the code. The technique of model
transformation is defined by meta model and transformation rule. The proposed work intends to
construct the source meta model for model oriented program and the target meta model for mobile
application. And it also intends to define model transformation rules to bridge the gap between source
and target meta model by using ATLAS (ATL) transformation language. The proposed system
expected to generate the android source project and create, retrieve, update, and delete (CRUD)
android apps.
Although there are already some approaches to model driven development of mobile apps, there is
still gap in model transformation approach for mobile applications. Individual Approaches are in
moving target. The technical space of model transformations still needs

Death Of A Salesman And The American Dream
The United States in the mid twentieth century was a time of change. In the 1960 s the civil rights and
women s rights were in their embryonic stages. All of these ideas coming together created the illusion
of The American Dream. Back then; the American dream was equated with freedom and material
prosperity, two concepts that ring true today. The definition of the American dream changes as society
in the United States changes, and the connotation and reality of the American Dream is disheartening.
Two literary compositions give a realistic outlook on what the American Dream really is. In Death of a
Salesman and The American Dream, Arthur Miller and Edward Albee masterfully relay the true nature
and ideologies of The American Dream. In theory, the American Dream is the idea that every person
residing in the United States of America should live a richer and fuller life, regardless of the class one
is born in. It is not a dream about cars, high wages, and a picket fence. The idea, for it to work, is
supposed to be that every man and woman in this beautiful country has the ability to gain the highest
class in their ability regardless of their previous background. The ability to achieve such high success
is based on academic success and hard work. In current times, it seems the American Dream has
become a pursuit of material objects. Citizens of the United States work countless hours to be able to
afford bigger cars, better homes, and the newest technologies. On the surface,

Lowering The Legal Drinking Age
As we know, the United States has the highest drinking age in the world. By 1988 the entire U.S had
adopted the Federal Uniform Drinking Age Act, which set the drinking age to twenty one. However, in
1920 the United States banned the sale, production, importation, and transportation of alcohol. This
era known as the Prohibition sparked the popularity of hidden underground bars and events. The
Prohibition Era is a prime example of how people did anything to intake alcohol and eventually this
led to the act of doing illegal things. It is obvious to say that many people in the 1920 s were going
against the law and were consuming alcohol. Today, this age seems to be a topic of controversy and
debate. Many countries have established their drinking age to eighteen and younger. To many people
believe that the idea of lowering the legal drinking age in the United States seems great. However,
others believe that this idea may bring upon more conflict and tragedy. The drinking age should not be
lowered and should stay at the uniform drinking age of twenty one.
Ruth C. Engs, a professor at Indiana University, supports the idea that the drinking age should be
lowered and should allow young adults to drink in controlled environments. She firmly believes that
by lowering the drinking age will result in a decrease in irresponsible drinking that can lead to
devastation. In opposition, Honor Whiteman states that the drinking age should be kept where it is
because it saves

Rosalie Metaphors
The way this book is written tricks me up sometimes because it goes from talking in past tense to the
quotes being in present tense and she also refers to the readers. It was strange to read at first, but once
I got the hang of it the book was made more enjoyable because of it. Matilda seems to be in the
background the whole time. She is present, but in the background. She seems to like to keep to herself
and listened to her sister when Rosalie was around, but never makes large impressions on Agnes.
Rosalie on the other hand makes that huge impression, when she turns back and gives Agnes that hug.
I almost forgave her for messing with all those boys. It showed to me that deep inside she does have a
heart and cared about people. Then when Agnes gets that letter from Rosalie I realized that she was
always going to be a little bit of a brat. She, what I took as, whined for Agnes to come and visit her.
Then she went on to tall Agnes about her charming child. I feel bad that her husband does not like that
it was a girl, but technically it was his fault. I feel bad for that child though. She is going to have to
grow up with a brat of a mother and probably become a brat herself because of it. ... Show more

family. It made me want to cry. Then when they were talking about money it made me feel horrible for
them. I was proud of Agnes s mother for standing up to her father though. That man deserved it.

I notice that Maria does not know how to regulate emotions. I wanted to teach Maria of different types
of emotions and how to deal with them, especially anger and sadness. I notice she does know what are

me what each color was and how the monster dealt with anger. I notice that she is an active listener. I
notice that she learned the word calm and what it means. Schickedanz and Collins(2013), Story

What Does Alliteration In True Night Mean
True Night by Gary Snyder
In the poem True Night by the modernist and jollity poet Gary Snyder, shows an amount of poetic
devices that allow one to see the modernism values. Alliteration and Onomatopoeia are some poetic
devices the reader can notice within the text. Modernism in the 20th century, the British public was
faced with a series of events that shook the world. Because of Britain s colonial past, many writers
have had the advantage and confusion of a double heritage. Writers from Ireland, Africa, and other
former British holdings all over the world have struggled to maintain a sense of their own culture and
traditions after being engulfed in those of the British. Gary Snyder the first of two, right after

Analysis Of The Blackbird Call In Grief
Death is a spiritual experience that is flush with taboo connotations. When a loved one leaves this life
for the after there are tears and grieving. This occurrence has been used countless times throughout
history to commemorate the passing of a loved one, this makes it difficult to produce a piece of poetry
that discussed death in a way it has not been discussed before. In The New Oxford Book of Irish Verse
poem 67 which will be referred to as The blackbird calls in grief , poem 108 which will be referred to
as There are three ways to await death , and All That is Left...by Michael Hartnett discuss this taboo
topic in new and interesting ways. These poems are distinct because of the way that the author
represents death. These poems are related and similar while being vastly different.
The blackbird calls in grief is an anonymously written poem from the twelfth century. The narrator of
the poem laments the story of the death of loved ones. In the poem, the narrator laments to a blackbird
and mourns the passing of both their families. The bird is personified by the narrator. In this poem, the
death is of two families, the birds, and the mans. The harm now happened to him/ not long since
happened to me (Kinsella 85). An analogy is created equating the loss of the two families and the
injustice of the loss. The seventh stanza questions God, O You who made the world, / Your bias is hard

Grande Odalisque And The Nightmare Comparison
Both Grande Odalisque and The Nightmare, were created during a time period ruled by Neoclassism
and Romanticism. Grande Odalisque is an oil painting created by Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres in
1814. The Nightmare is an oil painting created by Henry Fuseli in 1781. Grande Odalisque and The
Nightmare have very unique themes that represent each of their artists own unique style, despite their
differences they still maintain certain similarities through the Romantic qualities that each possess. In
order to fully comprehend the meaning of works of art, it is important to understand the artist behind
them. Obtaining knowledge on an artist s life can help the viewer comprehend possible messages that

He achieves this by using oil paint on canvas. Its main focus is that of a nude European woman in the
foreground, the woman stares apathetically at the viewer. Her body is lounging on a blue couch, with
rich linens crumpled beneath her. There are elaborately embroidered curtains hanging behind her. The
only thing adorning her body is a turban in her hair and a peacock feathered fan clutched in her hand.
The feathers could be symbolizing the woman s integrity and high social standing, which is indicative
to peacocks. The cool blue tones used throughout the piece help emphasize the woman s calm
demeanor. Her body is long and languid, which Ingres was able to achieve with illusionism. He often
distorted the human form to achieve idealistic images, such as the lengthening of the woman s torso (
Jean 122). The contrast between her skin and the environment helps her body stand out in comparison.
The lines that define her body curve softly, giving her a sensual and smooth appearance in contrast to
the angular lines used in the environment. Ingres portrays the young woman as a concubine in a harem
looking over her shoulder at her master. Although he had attempted Neoclassicism this picture leans to
a more Romantic approach, which is the reason it was not well received when it was displayed in a
Salon in Paris ( Jean

The Role Of Physicians And Osteopathic Physicians
There are two kinds of physicians that practice in the United States; they are allopathic physicians and
osteopathic physicians. They are very similar in the ways that they both can diagnosis and treat
illnesses and provide preventive care to patients. Both physicians may even practice medicine in
similar ways today, since their training is almost identical to one another. Allopathic and osteopathic
doctors can both prescribe medicine, perform surgery and can practice in specialty areas such as
critical care or emergency medicine (Indiana College, 2007). There are many things that cause people
to want to be a physician, such as helping others, job security and the interest of researching.
Allopathic medicine, abbreviated M.D., as defined ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unlike osteopathic they view a person as a diseased or injured body or organ and try to fix that. They
believe that whatever illness the person has can be cured or help relieve symptoms by either surgery or
medication. For example when someone has a headache or is constipated, the physician will order a
medication to be administered to relieve their pain. There have been many helpful procedures that are
used now thanks to allopathic physicians and medicine, such as hip replacement, chemotherapy and
insulin for diabetics. These physicians work best in emergency or acute situations which is referred to
as interventional medicine. Allopathic physicians try to stay away from alternative medicine such as
homeopathy and naturopathy. When tested on their attitudes allopathic doctors tested as more
technical oriented which means that they prefer to use scientific thinking for purposes. Osteopathic
medicine, abbreviated D.O., as defined by Webster as a therapeutic system originally based upon the
premise that manipulation of the muscles and bones to promote structural integrity could restore or
preserve health. Osteopathic medicine was founded by A.T. Still, a medical doctor who believed that
the current medical practices seemed to be doing more harm than good to the patients. He developed a
system of care that would promote the body s ability to heal itself. Osteopathic physicians are trained
in to provide holistic care, which means they look

The Jack The Ripper Murders
The Jack the Ripper Murders happened in the East End of London in 1888 and, although the
Whitechapel Murderer was only a threat to a small section of the community in a small part of
London, the murders had a huge impact on society as a whole. A thing that puzzles a lot of people
about this ancient murder spree is why the crimes are still so famous, even though over a hundred and
twenty five years has gone by since they occurred. If Jack the Ripper only had five victims, then he
wasn t a particularly prolific murderer compared to others that have come since then. The fact that his
so called reign of terror lasted only twelve or so weeks means that he wasn t at large for a particularly
long time. There is little doubt that his is the worlds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most famous of these letters, and the one that gave the murderer his name that ensured the
longevity of this legend was the missive sent to the Central News Office in late September, 1888. This
was the infamous Dear Boss Letter, that bore the chilling, though accurate signature, Jack the Ripper.
Press coverage of this letter led to a veritable avalanche of similar correspondence that resulted in the
police investigation almost being brought to melt down. Yet the likelihood is that the person
responsible for the murders was not the same person who sent this letter. It was believed by police
officers at the time and the majority of modern day experts are unanimously in agreement, that the
letter was the work of a Journalist. Despite the fact that no one was ever brought to justice or charged
with the murders, there have been more than a hundred named suspects who may or may not have

The World Wide Web Is A Better Source For Students...
The world wide web is growing immensely and it is filled with a plethora of information that is easily
accessible to anyone and everyone with an internet capable device. Students today are constantly
glued to technology, whether it is for leisure purposes or school purposes, thus making them
susceptible to reading and gathering accurate as well as false information from the internet. Many
students do not know how to navigate the web effectively or will not check a source s authority when
doing research, and as a result, they gather faulty information. The fact that students can easily access
information on the web when doing research, it is imperative for teachers to teach students how to
properly evaluate websites in order to assure that they are gathering authentic information from
credible sources. There are certain criteria educators and students can use in order to confirm the
authenticity of a website. In this paper, I used ten of Kathy Schrock s criteria to evaluate two websites
to determine which is a better source for students researching information on the topic The Human
Body. The criteria used are underlined and written in bold, and below each criterion will be a
summary of my evaluation of both websites. This paper will conclude which website is better for the

The American Film Industry
The American film industry is one of the most far reaching and influential businesses in today s world.
Movies constantly spawn franchises which have die hard fans lined up for hours just to get a ticket for
a movie that is months away. The celebrities in our movies are elevated to a position of super fame. It
is the nature to a human to adapt to conditions over a given period of time. Adaptation continues
through into our entertainment as well. Audiences are becoming accustomed to seeing the same things
on the screen over and over again. Filmmakers are constantly trying to keep audiences entertained,
which is becoming an increasingly difficult task. Today s general film going audience quickly
becomes bored and seeks more stimulation from the movies.
Computer generated images or CGI has been a chief method to keep modern audiences entertained,
while being cost effective to practical effects. With the recent use of CGI in movies, anything has
become possible. The use for practical effects is minimal to nearly non existent since Jurassic Park
and Terminator 2 first showed the wide spectrum of what was possible. It is increasingly common for
films to focus more on the visual effects, than the story of the film itself. Some notable examples of
this are the Transformers series of movies, and Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. In the
Transformers series the films focus on the action scenes of CGI robots. Human characters in this story
often take a back seat to their film

Slavery Was The Cause Of The Civil War Essay
I believe that dispute on slavery was the largest of the causes of the Civil War, and it led to more
disagreements between the North and South. After reading the South Carolina Declaration of
Secession, the Georgia Declaration of Secession, and the Constitution of the Confederate States;
March 11, 1861, I have determined that slavery holds the most blame for starting the Civil War. Just as
the colonists fought the Revolutionary War for their independance from Great Britain, the South
fought the Civil War to gain independence from the Union. The main reason the South wanted
independence was that they feared they would lose slavery if the remained in the Union. The majority
of the South believed that it was a right of the states to have slaves, ... Show more content on

This insulting and unconstitutional demand was met with great moderation and firmness by the South.

refused, the agitation became general, and the public danger was great. The case of the South was
impregnable. The price of the acquisition was the blood and treasure of both sections of all, and,
therefore, it belonged to all upon the principles of equity and justice. In this passage, and the entire
document, Georgia specifically states that the assertions for the exclusion of slavery was causing great
agitation. Since they paid for the slaves with blood and treasure , it is their right to keep slaves. The

also an android, was made to mimic human behaviors like formulating relationships and the ability to
make choices. Maddox, a Commander with the Enterprise came to Starship with orders to have Data
transferred over to him. Even though Maddox was given orders to take Data for research purposes,
Data didn t want to leave. Soon enough there was a court case being held against Maddox by Picard,
Data s Commanding officer. After learning about the resignation Data filed, Maddox stepped in to
dispute the matter. Picard had plans to disassemble Data ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Are they property? (Star Trek Synopsis). Picard exhibited a materialism view towards Data. As stated
by Hasker, Does consciousness exist only in biological systems, such as humans and other animals, or
would it also arise in a properly constructed assemblage of microchips and integrated circuits? (70).
Although Data is a machine he was constructed by man and made to mimic man and his emotions.
Hasker also states, Materialism functioning according to natural laws, with the result that crucial
aspects of human existence morality, rationality, aesthetic experience, religion inevitably are either
slighted or denied altogether (72). The materialism view is very simplistic as it leaves no room to
argue. Maddox ultimately lost his case due to the multiple attempts made my Picard to prove Data has

The Future of E-Prescriptions Essay
What is Electronic prescribing? It is the ability of a prescriber to transmit prescriptions directly to a
pharmacy electronically in order to increase accuracy and reduce error. New York City is currently
testing a program involving electronic prescribing which also known as e presribing or eRx. NYC S
program is titled ZappRx and is improving the way pharmacists, doctors, and patients interact with
one simple smartphone application. This app is being used to manage prescription payments and

transmitted electronically. To help meet this goal, incentive program that awards early adopters and
penalizes those that do not take on the initiative by 2012, with penalties increasing until 2014. All in
all, the benefits out weigh the challenges fro e prescriptions. These include but not limited to:
Improving patient safety and quality of care
Illegibility from handwritten prescriptions is eliminated, decreasing the risk of medication errors while
simultaneously decreasing risks related to liability.
Oral miscommunications regarding prescriptions can be reduced, as e prescribing should decrease the
need for phone calls between prescribers and dispensers.
Causes of medication errors include mistakes by the pharmacist incorrectly interpreting illegible
handwriting or ambiguous nomenclature, and lapses in the prescriber s knowledge of desired dosage
of a drug or undesired interactions between multiple drugs. Electronic prescribing has the potential to
eliminate most of these types of errors. Warning and alert systems are provided at the point of care. E
prescribing systems can enhance an overall medication management process through clinical decision
support systems that can perform checks against the patient s current medications for drug drug

Ecolab
Discuss how the leadership talent pipeline at Ecolab was critical to executing its business strategy.
The CEO and executives got together and came up with a strategy that grows the company. They had
to capitalize on success to capture greater share in markets. What this mean is they had to go a step
higher than where the company currently stands. I think because they don t want to get comfortable
and stuck and can t grow. They also are looking for new opportunities for the company to expand.
With this being said they are trying to develop a broader range of cleaning and sanitizing products.
They want to keep up with competition and exceed them. I think once they got everything done
nationally they want to go globally; they probably ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To me, new ideas are what grow the company.
Discuss the critical elements of the talent pipeline model at Ecolab. a. Analysis of the number of new
associates who would be necessary to lead the workforce would be a critical element. Basically they
were preparing for the growth of the company by making sure the management team and leaders. So
they had to promote within the company and then bring in new employees to train. They would also
hire from outside the company but why do that if you have qualified individuals at the company. It
will cost less and probably be more beneficial to the company. b. Expanding recruiting efforts which
was usually done by the HR department. If they are expanding they know they are going to have to
use their resources because they want to make sure they are hiring the best of the best. c. Redefining
high potential was also a critical element. They aren t just basing it on the performance but on
capability, ambition and commitment. Just because they perform their jobs well doesn t mean they
could take on the new roles. d. Talent council is basically the CEO and executive that s watching and
seeing who is growing. They are pushing the managers so they can continue to push employees which
will continue to grow the business.

A Fetal Organ That Is Vital For The Growth Of The Fetus...
Project Background (500 words) The placenta is a fetal organ that is vital for the growth of the fetus
during pregnancy. Abnormalities in placental development can result in pregnancy complications such
as intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) and pre eclampsia (PE), which affect one in ten pregnancies
in New Zealand. IUGR occurs in 3 5% of all pregnancies, and is associated with an assortment of
increased risks of its own, such as hypoglycaemia, hypothermia, developmental delays and increased
risk of infection. Despite its prevalence, we currently have no effective treatment for IUGR other than
close monitoring and premature delivery of the baby. Worldwide, 10% of neonatal mortality can be
put down to prematurity, but the risks do not stop there respiratory problems, feeding difficulties, and
neurological problems also increase in incidence as gestational age at delivery decreases. Furthermore,
IUGR babies are at an increased risk of cardiovascular problems, obesity and type II diabetes in
adulthood, diseases which the health system is currently plagued with. Together, these issues place a
considerable burden on healthcare providers in both the short and long term to the cost of up to $300
000 NZD per child, along with an intangible cost to the families of the children. However, despite the
significance of this problem, our knowledge of the pathophysiology leading to IUGR is limited, and so
developing effective treatments for IUGR has been exceptionally

How Did Benjamin Rush Influence The American Revolution
Benjamin Rush was an enthusiastic patriot who played an active role in facilitating the American
Revolution. Although all of the colonists originally started off loyal to King George III, there were
several reasons that influenced Rush to turn against his mother country. Benjamin Rush was a strong
believer in human rights. Therefore, he was impacted by the philosophy of environmentalists such as
John Locke. Two other factors that made an impact on Benjamin Rush s patriotic views were his
opposition to slavery and his friendships with other patriots such as Benjamin Franklin.
Benjamin Rush was born on January 4, 1746 in Byberry Township, Pennsylvania. In 1751, his father,

A Preview For Tomorrows Certainty
A Preview to Tomorrows Certainty South Vietnam declared Independence in 1955 and hence, the
Republic of Vietnam was born. Under the Eisenhower administration, as an attempt to avoid
Communism spreading from North to South Vietnam, substantial funds were provided. However,
under the Kennedy administration, against advisers advise, not only money was increased, but also
military aid. Not until 1964 when American ground troops were fired on by North Vietnamese did it
turn from a Vietnamese civil war to an international war. In Washington D.C. Senator J.W. Fulbright
shared his views on America s involvement in foreign affairs in a speech, On Arrogance of Power,
1966. . While Senator Fulbright boasts about America s power, efficiency, and solidarity, he warns
everyone that to be too proud could be a downfall even in the most prosperous nations. Going as far as
to say, it is believed by many that the power America has is almost viewed as a gift from God.
Referring from the humanitarian like actions taken by the United States by not only taking on the
responsibility of instilling peace but also assisting in rebuilding the governments on a foreign land.
Fulbright believed the government should concentrate less on foreign affairs and focus more on how a
new democracy could also flourish by an example being set by a thriving America. America still today

What It s Like to Be a Black Girl, first of all, it s being 9 years old and feeling like you re not finished,
like your edges are wild, like there s something, everything, wrong (pg 267 Clugston). When
comparing and contrasting the poem Patricia Smith What It s Like to Be a Black Girl to the short story
Country Lovers by Nadine Gordimer you see that the these two young black women want to be
accepted in the world around them. The girl in the poem is trying to change her image by once again
quoting like there s something, everything, wrong, it s dropping food coloring in your eyes to make
them blue and suffering their burn in silence. It s popping a bleached white mophead over the kinks of
your hair (pg 267 Clugston). Where as the short story states that nobelprize.org states that Nadine

The Heroic Code In Homer s The Iliad
The Heroic Code
Often, epic heroes can be characterized the same way. They are portrayed as superhuman beings,
possessing strength, physical beauty, and intelligence. These heroes aspired to live by a heroic code
that would ensure immortality by keeping their memory alive in the people. Homer s The Iliad shows
how the heroic code was ingrained in ancient Greek warriors. In many cases, the Greeks put this code
of honor above their own lives.
During a battle, Glaukos, a Trojan, and Diomedes, an Achaian, encounter one another in a space
between the two armies. By chance Diomedes asks who his enemy is. The two men then realize that
their fathers were friends. To keep the family friendship alive, the men share a handshake of ... Show

The warriors concern for each other shows the deep rooted value of life instilled in all Greeks.
Hektor, a Trojan prince, also leads his life by the heroic code that separates the epic hero from the
ordinary. Although his royal status distinguishes him from the regular citizen, his honorable deeds are
what make him a model Trojan. He possesses a lack of regard for his own life, but for good reason.
Hektor would rather live a short heroic life, and keep his name in good standing for his wife and son,
than be known as a coward. He knows that if he is killed, Andromache will be made a slave so he feels
as if he must leave her with a good name. Hektor wants Andromache to offer gifts to Athena in hopes
that she will protect him. This shows his belief in the supreme power of the gods and the course of
fate.
Paris is another Trojan prince that lives his life similar to Hektor s. However, Paris seems to take the
war lightly. On a visit, Hektor inspires Paris to join the ranks in the battles that are taking place
because of him. He knows that thousands are dying for his cause, and feels that the responsible thing
to do would be to participate. His sense of honor forces him to be a leader, so that his name is not
soiled. Paris then rushes to put on his armor and follow Hektor to the battle. In the end, Paris feels it is
his destiny to fight at his brother s side and lead

  • 3. Exotic Pet Ownership Humans should be allowed to do anything that they re capable of doing. Therefore, if humans can tame/control an exotic animal to satisfy our own needs humans should be able to. It s believed that the ownership of exotic pets should either be banned, or it should have increased license requirements to own an exotic pet. The main things that should be considered are: what it restricts, why not to place restrictions, why restrictions are considered. Getting a license is a precaution placed in order to ensure that the owner is acceptable to take care of an exotic animal. Someone looking to own an exotic pet should require a license no matter the state. States should also not ban the ownership of these exotic pets for that s restrictive on human aspirations. Restricting human choice shouldn t be acceptable unless a human s choice(s) reduces another s capabilities. Humans are at a point where nothing is above our species, therefore, if the capabilities of these exotic animals aren t enough to keep them from us, then humans do whatever they like. Currently, the issue isn t what it seems. The licences to own exotic pets vary widely in terms of requirements placed on the owner and the amount of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 4. Sense Of Sublimity In Alfred Hitchcock s The Birds Popular phrases such as Well, that s beyond me . . . What racks my brain is . . . or I can t wrap my head around that are simple contemporary idioms inadvertently attempting to communicate a sense of confusion, wonder, and admiration, though not without a touch of fear (Janowitz). Words perhaps not commonly used to describe Alfred Hitchcock s classic which is nearing its fifty fifth birthday. Yet, the campy, middle aged, prototypal film remains unsettling, frightening, and substantially sublime. Therefore, what exactly cements this film in infamy? What makes its presence essential to the libraries of eco critic s far and wide? Well, The Birds utilizes Hitchcock s crafty use of common cinematic techniques to conjure a sustaining sense of sublimity; the bird s infiniteness, their bouts of terrorism, and their symbolism illustrates several character s conflicts and loss of power permeating throughout the film with climatic moments illuminated by his many artful methods. For instance, Hitchcock initially builds a sense of sublimity by accumulating birds in a way that represent the incomprehensibility and infiniteness of nature a characteristic of a sublimity. His attempt to illustrate infinity fills the mind with a sort of delightful horror (Burke). The choice to reiterate the very concept is shown in the first setting in which the movie takes place: San Francisco. A place crowded with people, architecture, and a general absence of nature only shown to be caged or encircling the citizens below. The birds are suspiciously swarming the sky and only one citizens take notice the main character, Melanie. She is particularly caught by the commotion in the sky pausing to ponder their existence, only briefly, and then finally entering the bird shop. This minor event is important to the foreshadowing of dramatic action and the explanation of the bird s existence. Nonetheless, a better more riveting technique is explored later in the film. Hitchcock s ability to accumulate suspense not only throughout his film but in compressed context, too, is impressive. The famous scene where Melanie is waiting for Mitch s sister to be released from school exemplifies his ability. The dramatic irony of the scene is the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. A Model Transformation Approach For Mobile Application Nowadays, there is no stable model transformation approach for mobile application. Model transformation is one of the prominent features and the rising research area of Model Driven Engineering (MDE). There is still gap between software designer and developer because of the heavyweight of graphical modeling language like Unified Modeling Language (UML). The textual modeling language attempts to fill the gap between modeling and implementing in the development lifecycle. The proposed research work intends to transform text based model oriented program to mobile application. UML Programming Language (Umple) uses the concept of textual modeling as a technique to reduce differences between the model and the code. The technique of model transformation is defined by meta model and transformation rule. The proposed work intends to construct the source meta model for model oriented program and the target meta model for mobile application. And it also intends to define model transformation rules to bridge the gap between source and target meta model by using ATLAS (ATL) transformation language. The proposed system expected to generate the android source project and create, retrieve, update, and delete (CRUD) android apps. Although there are already some approaches to model driven development of mobile apps, there is still gap in model transformation approach for mobile applications. Individual Approaches are in moving target. The technical space of model transformations still needs ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Death Of A Salesman And The American Dream The United States in the mid twentieth century was a time of change. In the 1960 s the civil rights and women s rights were in their embryonic stages. All of these ideas coming together created the illusion of The American Dream. Back then; the American dream was equated with freedom and material prosperity, two concepts that ring true today. The definition of the American dream changes as society in the United States changes, and the connotation and reality of the American Dream is disheartening. Two literary compositions give a realistic outlook on what the American Dream really is. In Death of a Salesman and The American Dream, Arthur Miller and Edward Albee masterfully relay the true nature and ideologies of The American Dream. In theory, the American Dream is the idea that every person residing in the United States of America should live a richer and fuller life, regardless of the class one is born in. It is not a dream about cars, high wages, and a picket fence. The idea, for it to work, is supposed to be that every man and woman in this beautiful country has the ability to gain the highest class in their ability regardless of their previous background. The ability to achieve such high success is based on academic success and hard work. In current times, it seems the American Dream has become a pursuit of material objects. Citizens of the United States work countless hours to be able to afford bigger cars, better homes, and the newest technologies. On the surface, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Lowering The Legal Drinking Age As we know, the United States has the highest drinking age in the world. By 1988 the entire U.S had adopted the Federal Uniform Drinking Age Act, which set the drinking age to twenty one. However, in 1920 the United States banned the sale, production, importation, and transportation of alcohol. This era known as the Prohibition sparked the popularity of hidden underground bars and events. The Prohibition Era is a prime example of how people did anything to intake alcohol and eventually this led to the act of doing illegal things. It is obvious to say that many people in the 1920 s were going against the law and were consuming alcohol. Today, this age seems to be a topic of controversy and debate. Many countries have established their drinking age to eighteen and younger. To many people believe that the idea of lowering the legal drinking age in the United States seems great. However, others believe that this idea may bring upon more conflict and tragedy. The drinking age should not be lowered and should stay at the uniform drinking age of twenty one. Ruth C. Engs, a professor at Indiana University, supports the idea that the drinking age should be lowered and should allow young adults to drink in controlled environments. She firmly believes that by lowering the drinking age will result in a decrease in irresponsible drinking that can lead to devastation. In opposition, Honor Whiteman states that the drinking age should be kept where it is because it saves ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was strange to read at first, but once I got the hang of it the book was made more enjoyable because of it. Matilda seems to be in the background the whole time. She is present, but in the background. She seems to like to keep to herself and listened to her sister when Rosalie was around, but never makes large impressions on Agnes. Rosalie on the other hand makes that huge impression, when she turns back and gives Agnes that hug. I almost forgave her for messing with all those boys. It showed to me that deep inside she does have a heart and cared about people. Then when Agnes gets that letter from Rosalie I realized that she was always going to be a little bit of a brat. She, what I took as, whined for Agnes to come and visit her. Then she went on to tall Agnes about her charming child. What Does Alliteration In True Night Mean True Night by Gary Snyder In the poem True Night by the modernist and jollity poet Gary Snyder, shows an amount of poetic devices that allow one to see the modernism values. Alliteration and Onomatopoeia are some poetic devices the reader can notice within the text. Modernism in the 20th century, the British public was faced with a series of events that shook the world. Because of Britain s colonial past, many writers have had the advantage and confusion of a double heritage. • 13. Analysis Of The Blackbird Call In Grief Death is a spiritual experience that is flush with taboo connotations. When a loved one leaves this life for the after there are tears and grieving. This occurrence has been used countless times throughout history to commemorate the passing of a loved one, this makes it difficult to produce a piece of poetry that discussed death in a way it has not been discussed before. In The New Oxford Book of Irish Verse poem 67 which will be referred to as The blackbird calls in grief , poem 108 which will be referred to as There are three ways to await death , and All That is Left...by Michael Hartnett discuss this taboo topic in new and interesting ways. These poems are distinct because of the way that the author represents death. These poems are related and similar while being vastly different. The blackbird calls in grief is an anonymously written poem from the twelfth century. The narrator of the poem laments the story of the death of loved ones. In the poem, the narrator laments to a blackbird and mourns the passing of both their families. The bird is personified by the narrator. In this poem, the death is of two families, the birds, and the mans. The harm now happened to him/ not long since happened to me (Kinsella 85). An analogy is created equating the loss of the two families and the injustice of the loss. Grande Odalisque is an oil painting created by Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres in 1814. The Nightmare is an oil painting created by Henry Fuseli in 1781. Grande Odalisque and The Nightmare have very unique themes that represent each of their artists own unique style, despite their differences they still maintain certain similarities through the Romantic qualities that each possess. He achieves this by using oil paint on canvas. Its main focus is that of a nude European woman in the foreground, the woman stares apathetically at the viewer. Her body is lounging on a blue couch, with rich linens crumpled beneath her. There are elaborately embroidered curtains hanging behind her. The only thing adorning her body is a turban in her hair and a peacock feathered fan clutched in her hand. The feathers could be symbolizing the woman s integrity and high social standing, which is indicative to peacocks. The cool blue tones used throughout the piece help emphasize the woman s calm demeanor. Her body is long and languid, which Ingres was able to achieve with illusionism. He often distorted the human form to achieve idealistic images, such as the lengthening of the woman s torso ( Jean 122). The contrast between her skin and the environment helps her body stand out in comparison. The lines that define her body curve softly, giving her a sensual and smooth appearance in contrast to the angular lines used in the environment. Ingres portrays the young woman as a concubine in a harem looking over her shoulder at her master. They are very similar in the ways that they both can diagnosis and treat illnesses and provide preventive care to patients. Both physicians may even practice medicine in similar ways today, since their training is almost identical to one another. Allopathic and osteopathic doctors can both prescribe medicine, perform surgery and can practice in specialty areas such as critical care or emergency medicine (Indiana College, 2007). They believe that whatever illness the person has can be cured or help relieve symptoms by either surgery or medication. There have been many helpful procedures that are used now thanks to allopathic physicians and medicine, such as hip replacement, chemotherapy and insulin for diabetics. These physicians work best in emergency or acute situations which is referred to as interventional medicine. Allopathic physicians try to stay away from alternative medicine such as homeopathy and naturopathy. Osteopathic medicine, abbreviated D.O., as defined by Webster as a therapeutic system originally based upon the premise that manipulation of the muscles and bones to promote structural integrity could restore or preserve health. Osteopathic medicine was founded by A.T. Still, a medical doctor who believed that the current medical practices seemed to be doing more harm than good to the patients. The Jack The Ripper Murders The Jack the Ripper Murders happened in the East End of London in 1888 and, although the Whitechapel Murderer was only a threat to a small section of the community in a small part of London, the murders had a huge impact on society as a whole. A thing that puzzles a lot of people about this ancient murder spree is why the crimes are still so famous, even though over a hundred and twenty five years has gone by since they occurred. If Jack the Ripper only had five victims, then he wasn t a particularly prolific murderer compared to others that have come since then. Press coverage of this letter led to a veritable avalanche of similar correspondence that resulted in the police investigation almost being brought to melt down. It was believed by police officers at the time and the majority of modern day experts are unanimously in agreement, that the letter was the work of a Journalist. The fact that students can easily access information on the web when doing research, it is imperative for teachers to teach students how to properly evaluate websites in order to assure that they are gathering authentic information from credible sources. There are certain criteria educators and students can use in order to confirm the authenticity of a website. In this paper, I used ten of Kathy Schrock s criteria to evaluate two websites to determine which is a better source for students researching information on the topic The Human Body. The criteria used are underlined and written in bold, and below each criterion will be a summary of my evaluation of both websites. This paper will conclude which website is better for the research. Movies constantly spawn franchises which have die hard fans lined up for hours just to get a ticket for a movie that is months away. The celebrities in our movies are elevated to a position of super fame. It is the nature to a human to adapt to conditions over a given period of time. Adaptation continues through into our entertainment as well. Audiences are becoming accustomed to seeing the same things on the screen over and over again. Filmmakers are constantly trying to keep audiences entertained, which is becoming an increasingly difficult task. Computer generated images or CGI has been a chief method to keep modern audiences entertained, while being cost effective to practical effects. With the recent use of CGI in movies, anything has become possible. The use for practical effects is minimal to nearly non existent since Jurassic Park and Terminator 2 first showed the wide spectrum of what was possible. It is increasingly common for films to focus more on the visual effects, than the story of the film itself. Some notable examples of this are the Transformers series of movies, and Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. In the Transformers series the films focus on the action scenes of CGI robots. • 19. Slavery Was The Cause Of The Civil War Essay I believe that dispute on slavery was the largest of the causes of the Civil War, and it led to more disagreements between the North and South. After reading the South Carolina Declaration of Secession, the Georgia Declaration of Secession, and the Constitution of the Confederate States; March 11, 1861, I have determined that slavery holds the most blame for starting the Civil War. Just as the colonists fought the Revolutionary War for their independance from Great Britain, the South fought the Civil War to gain independence from the Union. The main reason the South wanted independence was that they feared they would lose slavery if the remained in the Union. These propositions were refused, the agitation became general, and the public danger was great. The case of the South was impregnable. The price of the acquisition was the blood and treasure of both sections of all, and, therefore, it belonged to all upon the principles of equity and justice. In this passage, and the entire document, Georgia specifically states that the assertions for the exclusion of slavery was causing great agitation.
