Eugene Delacroix s Liberty Leading the People is an oil painting that stands at 8′ 6″ x 10′ 8″,
commemorating the July Revolution of France in 1830. The painting, when first displayed at the 1831
Salon, an annual exhibition of French Art, was met with strong reactions of disapproval due to his
Romanticism influences and was later banned from public viewing. The 19th century experienced a

This paper will examine, in two parts, the worldviews of the philosopher Socrates. The first part will
examine four of his worldviews using evidence from The Apology, The Crito, and The Phaedo, all
written by Plato and depicting dialogues from Socrates. The first section of the paper will also use
supplementary analysis from Socrates by George Rudebusch. The second section of this paper will be
a critique of Socrate s worldviews.
Part 1: Socrates Worldview

No one knows with regards to death whether it is not really the greatest blessing that can happen to a
man; but people dread it as though they were certain that it is the greatest evil (Apology 29a). In his

definition. Socrates believed that an ignorant life was not a life worth living. When he revealed the
ignorance of the politicians, poets, and craftsmen, they were upset, further showing their ignorance in
that they were offended in Socrates attempting to impart some wisdom on them. He further states, I
only wish that ordinary people had an unlimited capacity for doing harm; that would mean that they
had an unlimited power for doing good, which would be a splendid thing. In fact they have neither.

The graphic novel, Maus by Art Spiegelman, is a story of his father Vladek, but also of him
interviewing his father about his experience of the Holocaust in the World War II. The story is divided
into two parts, one is about the author interviewing his father about the past and their family life
during the catastrophe and all the sufferings they have been through, and the other part is about the

Pedro Parámo by Juan Ranulfo
Are we held back by our memories? In his novel Pedro Parámo, Juan Rulfo questions the voices that
fill the town, the voices that represent old souls past memories. Rulfo s conception of our past is that it
haunts us, forcing the characters to revisit their own pasts in order to find meaning and forgiveness.
Specifically, the story explores the nature of memory and the past by recounting the stories of all the
inhabitants who have died in the town Comála. Everyone in the town is dead. The characters are only
representations of voices and murmurs, those of which live in Comála. All of these dead people,
ultimately, more than enough kind souls to go around (Rulfo 45) are in pain and are presented as if
they were living in another world, a world in a strange limbo of memory. Juan Rulfo paints a vivid
description of a ghost town in the city of Comála. His depiction of the town and the imagery he uses to
describe it allows the reader to imagine the town to be similar to that of a graveyard. Death leads
Rulfo to drawing conclusions about memories. The structure of death, the thematic forcing of diction
and repetition, is evident from the beginning. On the first page of the novel, readers are exposed to
Rulfo s word choices: dying, died, and dead. Moving forward, the town of Comála looks dead, it is
deserted, the air is dead and Juan Preciado, the narrator, describes it as a dead village. Death pervades
the entire novel, both in a literal and figurative approach.

The movie our class watched and reviewing is Shawshank Redemption. This movie is directed by
Frank Darabot and the producer of the film is Niki Marvin. The movie was released on October 14th,
1994. Shawshank Redemption is a R Rated movie, which, is intended for the mature. Andy Dufresne
is the main character in this film, Andy was acted out by Tim Robbins. There is a narrator in the movie
(which, narrators about Andy as time goes by in Shawshank prison) was narrated by Morgan Freeman.
This narrator is Ellis Boyd Redding or Red, an inmate and friend to Andy. The last characters I believe
to play a major role in the movie is the Warden of Shawshank, Warden Norton is played by Bob
Gunton; and Captain Hadley (Clancy Brown).
Andy Dufresne was a successful Vice President banker, that was tried and convicted for the murder of
his wife and the man whom his wife cheated on. In 1947, Andy was sent to Shawshank to serve two
murder charges or two life sentences. Dufresne arrives at Shawshank with a bus full of new inmates
and meets the guards and Warden Norton. The first years (two years) are brutal for Andy. He doesn t
really have any friends and he is harassed by a group of people called the sisters. Overtime he builds a
relationship with Red and the other friends of Red. He shows off his banker skills with Hadley and
becomes a pet to the Warden. The Warden helps Andy with harassment from the sisters and excuses

The Great Gatsby By Nick Carraway
The Carraways are something of a clan and we have a tradition that we re descended from the Duke of
Baccleuch, but the actual founder of my line was my grandfather s brother who came here in fifty one,
sent a substitute to the Civil War and started the wholesale hardware business that my father carries on
today. (Pg.7) Nick Carraway narrates the whole story in The Great Gatsby,and here he makes a
connection to The American Dream using his own family. In this quote the reader can see that his
family is indeed wealthy, but often connect their wealth to some far off nobleman that may or may not
have existed. Nick straightens this out by stating that the wealth is actually from his grandfather s
brother and his business, something that is continued by his own father and generates wealth through
years of hard work. This is a good example of The American Dream , but there are many other
examples of this dream throughout the story, and each has it s own meaning to the respective
character. Gatsby has his own dream of achieving Daisy s love, Daisy loves money and the attention
that comes along with it, and George Wilson dreamed of having a normal family with his wife Myrtle.
All three dreams vary because of who they belong to, but tangle together and cause problems

The Truth: Irish immigrants were driven to America by the potato famine of the 1840s. This caused a
massive influx of immigrants to New York City who were forced to settle for the cheapest and
shabbiest lodgings in a poorer area of the city, known as Five Points. These kinds of conditions
resulted in dirty, overcrowded spaces with relatively poor standards of living. Men typically worked at
a trade, what we would now consider blue collar, or working class jobs, to provide for their families.
Due to the fact that in this time, women were still not welcome in the workplace, many unmarried or

This investigation is aimed to find whether there is a relationship between cognitive empathy and
primary and secondary psychopathy. A correlational design was used, in which the Levenson self
report scale Levenson (1995) and the Reading Eyes Mind Test (Baron Cohen et al., 2001) were
administered to 452 first year psychology students. Major results showed a weak, significant, negative
correlation between primary psychopathy and empathy; there was no significant relationship between
secondary psychopathy and empathy. Concluding lack of empathy potentially correlates with primary
psychopathy whereas secondary psychopathy shows no noticeable significance to empathy.

Male love in The Things They Carried
The Things They Carried by Tim O Brien is a fictional book consisting of different stories from
Vietnam war. Tim O Brien was trying to convey the real perspectives of the war to his readers by
telling facts and stories through his personal memories he got from the war, and how things effect
them and their life after the war. In order to express the tension in the war, O Brien depicts the
experience of the soldiers by showing the different ways of expression of male love from these
soldiers. Although there are many forms of friendship, some of which may vary from place to place,
the friendship in the war is the most unique one. As the definition of Friendship, Friendship is a
stronger form of interpersonal bond than an association. The bond between soldiers is more intense
and real, and this is also the message that Tim O Brien shows in his book by using metaphor, details
depicting and technique of repetition.
Tim O Brien uses metaphor of photos to express the life before, tie all soldiers together, and thus show
the friendship of them. The Thing They Carried is not only describing the life in the Vietnam war, but
