Q: What does CENTI stand ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A: That s the main thing of every church if they do what God told them to do.
Q: Do you disagree with any aspects of your religion?
A:No, usually no. However, we just had a controversy and parted ways with the head of the movement
because he got involved with politics. During a prolonged period of time some leaders were
attempting to go into politics, finally they achieved it, but many of the other leaders did not agree with
it, so we parted ways. They were trying to get into political positions in Colombia. We left but at the
same time we didn t, the Centi divided but we kept the name and those who stayed with him changed
their name to ICT, International Conference of Theotherapy.
Q: Do you talk to others about your religion? What is the most common misconception?
A: I talk to many other Christians or Catholics, but normally I don t because I don t have those
connections, I don t really know people from other religions. If I am asked about my religion I
respond that I am Christian , if they ask about my church I tell they I belong to Centi, if they ask what
Centi means I explain to them where it comes from, what we practice, etc. Centi is not my religion, I
don t have a religion, it is my church or my congression, but in reality my religion is

The Bi-Polar World Order Essay
Under the ruins of the World War II (WWII), a new world order was beginning to appear. The old and
weak European powers, were devastated from the war, and could no longer hold the world on its
shoulders. Subsequently, new superpowers had to take over the control; they were the USSR and the
USA. Soon after the end of WWII, new international tensions became apparent after the break of the
Grand Alliance (Taylor, 1993, p. 49). The disagreements between the new superpowers grew to a point
where the Cold War became a fact. That new world order split the world ideologically into two camps;
the anti imperialist(USA) and the anti capitalist(USSR)(Ibid, p.51).The ideological war was
underlined by a geopolitical transition, subsequently creating ... Show more content on

With the start of the Cold War, however, the concept was developed and incorporated within its
rhetoric (Dodds, 2000, p.61). For Agnew, the term began to be referred to the newly formed states,
product from the ongoing wind of change (Taylor, 1993, p.55), and other states that were outside the
settled spheres of influence of the superpowers (Agnew, 1998, p.112). However, in the Cold War
rhetoric the Third World still referred, in certain a certain sense, to another way the Third Way.
According to Agnew, those states signified the resistance to the dominating political and economic
discourse of the Cold War (Ibid, p.113). Those resistances led to the creation of the Non Alignment
Movement (NAM), in 1961. It included, member states, such as Egypt, India and Yugoslavia. The idea
of the movement, according to Dodds(2000, pp.57 8), was to resist the geopolitical pressures of the
Cold War, and to establish a forum where common problems could be discussed, without any
interference from the superpowers. As it appeared this wasn t the only rationale behind the creation of
NAM. In the NAM summit of 1973, in Algiers, the member states committed to pursue a New form of
International Economic Order (NIEO), aimed at reducing the economic and political gap between the
North and the South (Ibid, 58). These events were in conjunction with the rise of oil prices, declared

The Voice of Reason in Tartuffe by Jean-Baptiste Poquelin...
Jean Baptiste Poquelin Moliere wrote Tartuffe during the beginning of the Age of Enlightenment. One
of the main characteristics of the Age of Enlightenment was a push towards using reason over
emotions to make decisions. The leaders of the enlightenment truly believed that the world could be
made a better place if people did this. In Tartuffe, when the characters use their emotions to make their
decisions they find themselves in undesirable situations. While those who let their emotions rule them
find their lives spinning out of control, there are other characters in the play who try to approach them
with reason and logic. Out of these characters the lady s maid Dorine stands out as the voice of reason.
There are several stock characters ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I m far less awed;/ In fact, I see right through him. He s a fraud. (I.1.69 70) Dorine s blunt words carry
more weight than the other characters in this scene for several reasons. Dorine represents the average
person more than anyone else in the play. She is not highly educated like Cleante and she did not have
the upbringing that the other characters did. For someone in her position, a lady s maid, to see the
truth so clearly, it exaggerates the absurdity that Orgon and Madame Pernelle do not. In Dramatic
Justice in Tartuffe, Myrna Kogan Zwillenberg wrote, To be sure, Molière has taken the precaution of
signaling such incidents by having the servant Dorine express her exaggerated moral outrage, a
significant device which pinpoints the areas meant to be ridiculous. (Myrna Kogan Zwillenberg 1)
It seems that Moliere was more than likely making a statement with Dorine s character, that anyone
can use their common sense. It does not take a college education or fine upbringing to see through the
mask that some people present themselves with. Dorine was his way of encouraging others to see what
lies are right in front of their face. The play was very controversial for the time it was written in, and
in fact had to be rewritten in order for it to be performed. Moliere also had to petition for permission
for Tartuffe to be performed. There are several political views hidden in the lines.

Greg Gage
Greg Gage explains that the brain is a fascinating organ. He adds that not much is known about how
the brain works because neuroscience is not being taught in schools. This is because the equipment
needed to study neuroscience is extremely complex and expensive that this research is only completed
at large institutions and major universities. In order to use these tools, one must devote their life and
study for about six years to gain access to these materials. His lab partner and himself brought it upon
themselves to create an affordable, simplified version of this equipment that virtually anybody could
use. They created a company called Backyard Brians that uses DIY neuroscience equipment. He
wanted to put his new technology to use, so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Schools all across the country claim the main reason for no doing so, as of now, is because they do not
have the proper technology to teach the topic effectively. Fortunately, the technology that Gage has
created is an affordable and efficient solution to the school s dilemma. By teaching basics of the
science, children may have an inclination to study neuroscience in later years, such as college. The
few amount of neuroscientists in the world now can be blamed on schools for not giving baseline
information to students, and therefore not allowing them to become interested neuroscience.
Traditionally, even if one expressed enthusiasm in the topic, it would take years of schooling until one
could even use the tools available for scientists. Twenty percent of the world suffer from a
neurological disorder, and no cure has been found for these diseases. This is partly because of the fact
that not many people study neuroscience and therefore is a lack of information in the field. By using
Gage s new technology in schools to help explain neuroscience, the topic would become more
popular, and because of this, society as a whole could grow to learn more about the study of the brain,
which would benefit everybody in the long

James Baldwin s Sonny s Blues
James Baldwin brings you on an emotional ride through Harlem in the 1950 s with his short story,
Sonny s Blues. From the beginning, we are in media res when the unnamed narrator is informed of
bad news concerning his younger, troubled brother, Sonny. Throughout the story we witness the ocean
of emotions between these two brothers battling hardships from their past, through flashbacks, and
present time. The setting plays an important role in Sonny s Blues to an extent where it is practically a
character in the story. The city of Harlem is a reminder of their troubles and the suffering it ignites is
exactly what Sonny tries to run away from when he turns to drugs and jazz music. Through the setting
of Sonny s Blues, and the example of the relationship between the narrator and his younger brother,
Sonny, James Baldwin presents how a dark past full of suffering can influence present lives and
relationships.
The sequence of events is not in chronological order since the narrator goes from present, to past, and
back to present in order to illustrate the suffering experienced by both brothers and to emphasize the
impact the past has on the present. During present time, Sonny is sentenced to prison for heroine
abuse. The narrator and Sonny are not close at this time because he doesn t try to understand Sonny
until his little girl dies and he has some of his own suffering to deal with. I was sitting in the living
room in the dark, by myself, and I suddenly thought of Sonny. My

Protecting Against Terrorist Attacks in Urban...
Introduction
Blast protection, until recently, has only needed to be considered when constructing underground
shelters and military bunkers. Currently, however, there is a need for urban buildings and similar
structures used consistently by the general public to withstand forces from nearby explosions. This
need is due to the recent climb in terrorist attacks in urban or crowded environments. These attacks
have used the lack of blast resistance in these buildings as a means for creating widespread havoc
through detonating an improvised explosive device (IED). These devices range from explosives
planted inside a structure to roadside or vehicular bombs. An urban environment causes even
relatively small explosions to be extremely potent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Structures that collapse in an urban environment result in casualties inside the building and also result
in collateral damage that may cause nearby structures to also collapse. This effect was seen in the
collapse of the World Trade Center in New York City, although this collapse was not a result of the
initial explosion. Had the towers not collapsed, it is estimated that close to half of the deaths could
have been prevented (Dwyer). It is therefore vitally important for buildings that suffer damage from
explosions to remain structurally stable for as long as

The Battle Of The Somme Offensive
The Battle of the Somme, also known as the Somme Offensive, was a battle of the First World War.
The battle was fought by the armies of the British and French empires against the German Empire,
including Australia who came to support the mother county . It took place between 1th July and 18th
November 1916 on both sides of the River Somme in France. It was one of the largest battles of World
War I, in which more than 1,000,000 men were wounded or killed, making it one of the bloodiest
battles in human history. (Wikipedia, 2015)
The Somme offensive was planned in December 1915 and was intended as a joint French British
attack. The French Commander in Chief, General Joffre, conceived the idea as a battle to reduce the
German empire s strength and effectiveness through continual attack and create a distraction for the
Germans to relieve some of the pressure for the French, although territorial gain was a secondary aim.
(Firstworldwar.com, 2009) For a number of months, the French had been taking severe losses at the
Battle of Verdun (which took place at the east of Paris). In order to take German pressure off the
French, the Allied High Command attacked the Germans north of Verdun therefore requiring the
Germans to move some of their men away. (Toor, 2014) The plan was agreed upon by the new British
Commander in Chief, Sir Douglas Haig and by the British government, who granted authorisation to
conduct the offensive. (Firstworldwar.com, 2009)

Adulthood In William Faulkner s Barn Burning
When does someone reach adulthood? Usually, one defines themselves as an adult when they turn
eighteen, but there is more than simply turning another year older. Adulthood has a physical aspect
where by turning eighteen a person is considered an adult biologically, but there is a psychological
aspect as well where a person is mentally mature and able to make decisions for themselves. In Barn
Burning by William Faulkner, he writes about a young, hungry, and illiterate boy, Colonel Sartoris,
who deals with the matters of right and wrong. He has to make a decision on sticking with his blood,
even though he is treated wrongly by his father, or doing what he feels is right. There are moments
where he falters in his choices after his moment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The events that led up to the narrator s moment of epiphany, involved him and his friends starting
trouble with someone they mistaken as their friend and almost rape a girl, but are snapped out of their
actions by the approaching headlights from another car (Boyle 531 532). This can be an indication of
the narrator s lack of mental maturity as he is not concerned with the consequences of this actions,
eventually leading to the narrator s two moments of epiphany. The first moment of epiphany occurs
when he finds a dead body floating in the lake while he is hiding with his friends in the lake (Boyle
533). Consequently, by him injuring a person it leads him to a dead corpse of another, realizing what
his actions of acting bad could result to. The second was when he thinks back to the dead man floating
in the lake, who is probably the only person on the planet worse off than I [the narrator] was (Boyle
534). At this point in time, the narrator realizes his actions could have been more fatal than just some
bruises. While he still has to face the consequences of his actions from his parents, at least he wasn t

their lives and how they act, for better or worse. Personally, I am not one to be extremely impacted by
events, but some of the events I have experienced really did leave a lasting effect on me as an
individual. Life changing events are not always negative, but in my case the events that changed my
life had not benefited me. I do believe that these events matured me, but I still do feel devastated that
these events had to have happened in the first place. The death of my grandfather and the divorce of
my parents are the two events that made me lose my innocence and feel as if I had to mature. In the

Positive Effects Of Adhd In Children
Effects of ADHD ADHD is a developmental disorder of self control. The disorder is not caused by a
failure in the parent to discipline or control their child. The disorder can also have negative effects on
the parent. Also a child can have many troubles learning and treating this disorder. ADHD can have
many effects and causes, but it is how a person copes and monitors themselves or their child. The
physical, social and cognitive consequences of this disorder reflect an impairment in the person s
ability to reflect on their own behavior. The first thing someone will notice with a person when they
have ADHD is how the act and react physically. When a person has ADHD they usually are more
physically active and less attentive. In the brain, there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is where the second part comes in where socially, one is different. Little is known of ADHD in
preschool years because the child has yet to develop and learn with the disorder. Anyone with ADHD
at any age can have trouble with speech and sounding things out loud. There are three methods that
help children talk to themselves out loud. These three methods are called cognitive behavior
modification, self instruction and self control programs. Some effects of ADHD that must deal with
cognition are academic failure, social isolation, depression and low self esteem. Some people think
differently about every situation. Sometimes a child could even think the decisions they are making
are the right decision and they are not. Neuropsychological deficits in adults with ADHD go beyond
comorbidity. Specific comorbid disorders may influence the neuropsychological functioning in adults
with ADHD. Comorbidity is when someone has two chronic diseases or conditions. Something that
can go along with ADHD can be bipolar disorder which then would have an effect of comorbidity.
Cognition can be very hard to get through with ADHD. He/she can take many medications to help, but
the side effects may be worry sum. Preparing someone for transitions can be very difficult. Many
people with ADHD have a hard time thinking and preparing things for the future. Anticipation is a
huge factor in people with ADHD. Children with speech problems should always sound their words
out to help themselves through the talking process. Thinking and learning with ADHD has its
disadvantages, but it is the preparation that will help the

True Grit Analysis
St. George, South Carolina claims to be the Grits Capital of the World , eating more pounds of grits
per capita than any place else in the world. Grit, what is it? Well it can be food or a personality trait,
depending on how you look at it. This question is underlined in the novel True Grit. This idea of grit
comes from the book True Grit by Charles Portis, about a 14 yr. old girl, Mattie Ross, who has come
to find someone with grit to avenge her father. She hires a U.S Marshall named Rooster Cogburn who
brings along a Texas Ranger named La Boeuf to help her capture and/or kill her father s murderer,
named Tom Chaney. Through this story Portis explores characters who have grit and those who lack it.
Several definitions of grit are brought ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In my opinion someone with true grit is not being pitiless, tough and fearless. Mattie reiterates this grit
description by telling him, They tell me you are a man with true grit (Portis 59). I disagree with Mattie
on this one, to me there are other traits of true grit shown later that describe the meaning of grit better.
This tells us that Rooster has a grit that is different from Mattie s grit shown in the book, and that grit
can also mean being harsh, resilient and fearless. Rooster and them finally run into the gang that
Chaney is in, led by Lucky Ned Pepper. At this point Ned s gang has left Chaney with Mattie, to cash
their stolen goods when La Boeuf and Rooster come to halt them in their tracks. La Boeuf knocks
Chaney out while Rooster challenges the band of four bandit s head on, like so, He took the reins in
his teeth and pulled the other saddle revolver and drove his spurs into the flanks of his strong horse
and charged directly at the bandits (Portis 201). This action quote is my favorite display of Rooster s
true grit because he shows it as being bold and courageous. Rooster kills all but one, by means of this
action he illustrates grit in his boldness, strength and roughness by literally gritting his teeth together
to perform this act of true grit. After this event, Mattie is poisoned by a snake bite and Rooster shows
grit again by risking many things, including his hat, Rooster lost his hat and never looked back (Portis
215). I have a favorite hat and would be sad to lose it, so for me this shows that Rooster s meaning of
grit changed. If it wasn t for his care about Mattie, he probably would have turned back for his hat. He
did it to save Mattie s life, displaying a different type of grit, one of valor, resolution and care of her.
While Rooster showed us more sides to grit, La Boeuf surprisingly proved that even Texas

Representative Democracy
The United States of America s liberation from Britain was an incredible feet, yet afterwards there
were many loose ends that needed to be tied up to truly start their independence as a free nation. At the
top of that list was to choice and construct what type of government our country would build itself
around and from which it would grow for many years to come. There have always been various
structures and frameworks, socialism, communism, etc, in which you can construct a country s
government from, but the United States of America picking a representative democracy, or a republic,
made this country as great as it is.

A Republic gave the United States of America the most benefits and it fit their needs closer than any

government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and
religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge, or gallantry, would break the strongest cords of our Constitution
as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is
wholly inadequate to the government of any other (Adams, 1851). This reveals why our government is
the only type that fits our country. Adams explain what this country stands on, and, at the same time,
sheds light on concepts that are looked over in the other forms, which would leave large

Designing On Esp Study Zener Cards
Designing on ESP Study Zener cards The purpose of this essay is to create an experiment that test
whether or not psychics have clairvoyant power. 1a. Dr. Venkman believes that psychics are the only
one who has this special clairvoyant power that no regular person has. 1b. In his article How ESP
Works, Tom Harris reveals that no one are ability to prove that extra sensory perception (ESP), exist.
For example, Harris uses the scenario of a man who wrote a book about a sunken ship, which had the
same description as the Titanic. The book was published before the Titanic was built. He was
rewarded as a psychic, however this scenario limits the scientific method because it occurs in an
uncontrolled environment. In order to effectively demonstrate some good evidences, scientists need to
conduct an experiment that has a closely controlled condition. In John Thomas facts sheet, he
mentions that the evidences cited for ESP are usually anecdotal. He states these anecdotal claimed that
scientific tests at respected research institutions have conclusively demonstrated that ESP exists. For
example, as pointed out by Thomas, the SRI remote viewed experiments claimed that subjects could
see places through the eyes of others. However, psychologies are unable to repeat the result of this
experiment.

Eugenic Decision-Making
Eugenics is defined, in some way or the other, as the process of reshaping the human race by
determining the kinds of people who will be born. As such, there is much debate in the field of
eugenics, with authors, like Philip Kitcher, who support laissez faire or a minimalist approach of
eugenics in which eugenic decision making should be limited only to avoid neurological illnesses and
in which parental free choice is valued. Gregory Stock s essay, The Enhanced and Un Enhanced,
presents otherwise by supporting the position of maximalist eugenics, allowing individuals the full
extent in the selection of genes. On the other hand, the film, Gattaca, raises major ethical problems by
illustrating a dystopian society resulted by extensive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, enlightened eugenics calls for the education on the basis of minimalist eugenics while
responsible eugenics would use reliable genetic tests in order to avoid neurological diseases and
prevent the previously mentioned dangers caused by laissez faire eugenics. Kitcher s view of utopian
eugenics envisions a society in which genetics allow people to make free and educated reproductive
choices and in which the education broadens an understanding of the likely quality of a modest life.
Contrary to Kitcher s minimalist model that constrains eugenic decisions only to avoid neurological
diseases, Gregory Stock s position in the debate defends maximalist eugenics in which individuals
have total free eugenic decision making, including enhancement, without any state coercion. He wants
readers to accept and adopt such a position by arguing that genetic engineering such as selecting and
alternating embryos is an inevitable future and human destiny (7, Stock, CC p.279). For example, if
redesigning humans became commonplace, Stock reasons that parents would give their children
endowments they desire but could not otherwise obtain and thus further expand life s possibilities to
the next generation (8, Stock, CC p.276). In this society, people s genes would become an embodiment
of their parents values and preferences. People would arguably want such endowments since they
would view modifications as beneficial in

Cultural Change Of The Vietnam War
As America was fighting a war for freedom in another country, unruly teens were fighting their own at
home. Cultural change, the explosion of free love, youthful rebellion, and a new liberal mindset all
seemed to have one underlying device in common; drug use. The late 1960 s into the early and mid 70
s found the perfect environment for recreational drug use. Music and arts celebrated this lifestyle, as
well as free thinkers and their idiotic philosophies about spiritual elation through mind altering
narcotics. Lack of family structure with so many homes transformed by the Vietnam War also left
young teens without guidance, and an economy with little to offer to the up and coming generation. As
the next few years passed and the free love generation began to grasp the concept of working for a
living, showering on a regular basis, love with commitment (or antibiotics), and cultural change
through policy, they brought to the workforce a new dynamic not previously prevalent. Recreational
drug use had become part of society. Vietnam War veterans also brought their own demons home with
their return, opiate addictions were a common occurrence (Carson 2012).
This new dynamic was seen initially in 1971 by the National Household Survey on Drug Abuse
(NHSDA) spearheaded by the Office of National Drug Control Policy. The survey indicated that many
illegal drug users were employed full or part time. The initial survey was used to try and understand
the scope of the problem,

The Island Of The Galapagos Archipeggio
Isabela Island, the largest island of the Galápagos archipeggio, seemed to rise straight out of the water.
The sedimentary rock cliffs were rusty brown, but were covered with life. Red and black crabs rested
on the surface, while blue footed boobies gracefully dived into the water to catch sardines. Baby nazca
boobies peered out of their nests to see a small inflatable boat, known as a panga, bobbing in the
water. Our guide, Christina, enthusiastically shared her knowledge of these animals to my family. This
wildlife viewing boat ride was our plan for the afternoon. But things changed. As things always
change.
The sun was starting to set in the west, over the Bolivar Channel. The sea seemed calm, but a bird
would occasionally skim the surface. My family and I watched the horizon intently. The Bolivar
Channel was known for having the best marine wildlife viewings in the Galápagos. In the far distance,
water was displaced. Mist flew in the air, forming the shape of a miniature fountain. Could it be a
whale spout? Or was it just my imagination? Quietly, I told my sister Raley. However, it was not quiet
enough. Christina heard and immediately started to scour the area with her binoculars. What if there
was no marine life in the area? I was convinced I would die of embarrassment.
Suddenly, Christina dropped her binoculars.
I see it! It s a whale spout!
Immediately, our panga raced off full speed to the location of the whale spout. However, as we inched

Children With Disabilities And Special Needs
One hopes that all schools in the U.S. that have disabled and special needs students do everything they
can to ensure that such students are treated in a fair way and granted their right to equal access to
education. For years, students with disabilities and special needs were not given the right to education.
Many were labeled as incapable or the term special someone who needs particular requirements which
is now known as special needs. They were not valued because of their failures and many saw little
success in their future. To address such unjust treatment federal laws have been passed to ensure that
equality is granted to such students. In 1975, Congress enacted the Individuals with Disabilities
Education Act (IDEA). The IDEA act required schools to serve the educational needs of eligible
students with disabilities These disabilities include children with: autism, deaf blindness, deafness,
emotional disturbance, hearing impairment, intellectual disability, multiple disabilities, orthopedic
impairment, health impairment such as ADHD, learning disabilities like dyslexia, speed and language
impairment, turmeric brain injury, and visual impairment including blindness. (Lee) The IDEA helped
promote children with a range of special needs to get the educational help they deserved. Enacted in
1990 Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) prohibited discrimination against individuals with

Chocolat is about a war between the forces of paganism and Christianity, and because the pagan
heroine has chocolate on her side, she wins. Her victory is delayed only because, during Lent, a lot of
the locals aren t eating chocolate. The movie happens in the backdrop of a French village. Vianne
Rocher (Juliette Binoche), an expert chocolatier, drifts across Europe with her daughter Anouk
(Victorie Thivisol), following the north wind. In the beginning of the Lenten season in 1959, fifteen
years after the War, they travel to the French village that closely adheres to tradition, as led by the
village mayor, the Comte de Reynaud (Alfred Molina).
Just as the villagers begin observing the forty days of Lent, Vianne opens a chocolate shop, much to
Reynaud s displeasure. Chocolat was directed by Lasse Hallstorm in 2000. ... Show more content on

She does not fit in well with the townspeople, but is nevertheless optimistic about her business. Her
friendly and alluring nature begins to win the villagers over one by one, causing Reynaud to openly
speak against her for tempting the people during a time of abstinence and self denial. The Comte will
not admit that his wife has left him; he is romantically interested in Caroline, but he does not pursue
her.One of the first to fall under the spell of Vianne and her confections is Armande (Judi Dench), her
elderly, eccentric landlady. Armande is unhappy that her cold, devoutly pious daughter Caroline
(Carrie Anne Moss) will not let Armande see her grandson Luc because Caroline thinks Armande is a
bad influence . Vianne arranges for Luc and his grandmother to see each other in the chocolaterie,
where they develop a close bond. Caroline later reveals to Vianne that her mother is a diabetic, though
Armande continues to eat the chocolate despite her

Herman Melville s Bartleby the Scrivener Essay
Bartleby The Scrivener In Herman Melville s Bartleby the Scrivener , the author uses several themes
to convey his ideas. The three most important themes are alienation, man s desire to have a free
conscience, and man s desire to avoid conflict. Melville uses the actions of an eccentric scrivener
named Bartleby, and the responses of his cohorts, to show these underlying themes to the reader. The
first theme, alienation, is displayed best by Bartleby s actions. He has a divider put up so that the other
scriveners cannot see him, while all of them have desks out in the open so they are full view of each
other, as well as the narrator. This caused discourse with all of the others in the office. This is proven
when Turkey exclaims, I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The narrator went to great lengths to avoid a confrontation. When Bartleby refused to leave the office
after being fired, the narrator chose to move his office to a different location instead of removing the
eccentric man by force. The narrator informs the reader of this idea when he says, No more then.
Since he will not quit me, I must quit him. I will change my offices. (2422) By doing so, the narrator
displays just how far man is sometimes willing to go to avoid conflict. The final theme is man s desire
to have a free conscience. Melville reveals this theme through the actions of the narrator as well as the
new tenants of the office. The narrator attempts to appease his conscience by giving Bartleby money
above his wages when he fired him. The new tenants of the office try to put the responsibility of
dealing with Bartleby back on the narrator, but they are denied and eventually have the man removed
from the premises by law officers. Herman Melville uses the actions and reactions of the characters in
Bartleby the Scrivener to disclose three important themes, alienation, man s desire to avoid conflict,
and man s desire to keep a free conscience. In doing so, he gives us an inside look into the workings of
the human mind. The reader is left with the impression that all people, including lawyers, have
compassion for other humans, and at some point, that

Patrick Henry Rhetorical Devices
Patrick Henry Rhetorical Analysis Essay Patrick Henry utilizes rhetorical devices throughout his
Speech in the Virginia Convention to advocate the fact that the thirteen colonies must approach Britain
with violence in order to secede successfully from Britain s absolute power over Americas
independency. The argumentative tone set by Patrick Henry directly results from using his voice to
address the president Mr. President: no man thinks more highly than I do of the patriotism. (Henry1).
Although his directness may be taken as disrespect it allows his point to be made clear and simple.
When he refers to patriotism he creates a connection with the colonist and the president by bringing up
a topic everybody would agree on, so he can catch ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He asks rhetorical question as so to prove his point steadily. The use of rhetorical questions benefits
Patrick Henry to connect with the colonist emotionally to perceive the idea being united as a whole
with hope can beat the odds. His faith shines through when he repeats, I have but one lamp of
experience. I know no way of judging of the future but by past (Henry3). The biblical reference refers
to light during the darkened time. Which refers to Patrick Henry s position towards the U.S must fight
against Britain to bring light during the darkened time because colonist haven t seceded from their
leadership successfully yet. The repetition of the combination of rhetorical strategies convey the urge
of fighting against Britain despite the odds. Due to his direct use of tone to gain more attention from
addressing the president in a distinct way. Patrick Henry s convinces the colonist and the president that
approaching Britain violently is the only option they have left to have a chance to secede by using
rhetorical questions. Also because of Patrick Henry s patriotism he makes the odds in thee favor of the
possibility of seceding from Britain. The confidence in his tone shows everyone listening, that the
colonist have a chance of victory based on their hope Henry has given

Rhetorical Analysis Of The Humanitarian Crisis In Europe
Just take a look at the humanitarian crisis in Europe with all the refugees coming in or the plight of the
Rohingya people and that should help put into perspective all the rhetoric in the US about illegal
immigrants. Refugees are flooding into Europe and hopefully the EU will pick up the pace in finding a
dignified solution to the problem. It shouldn t take horrific photos of drowned children to stir action
and make nations deal with refugees in a compassionate manner. It is not acceptable to ignore these
people or simply hope they go somewhere else. I d like to live in a world with open borders and I d
like to live in a nation that welcomes immigrants and refugees. People who take long, dangerous

Redrone Feasibility Study
Robots are re programmable machine that can be programmed to do a specific or many tasks. Robots
are mainly used to perform tasks that humans dislike or cannot perform safely. Therefore, a robot is a
robot as it is capable of movement, is reprogrammable, and can be programmed in order to complete a
task/tasks. The assignment was to develop and program a robot prototype which would assist an
audience/community. Thus, by assisting the needy communities the Redrone would be improving the
quality of life along with creating social, political, and/or economic conclusions. One specific Robot,
the Redrone, was constructed to monitor and aid bison, the nation s national mammal. The Redrone
will aid the bison by monitoring them to make sure they do not wander off to an area where they may
be killed or injured and also to warn if they are hurt. The Redrone was built with propellers to give it
the ability to fly. By flying/hovering, it can easily monitor the bison without getting caught on grasses,
trees, and bushes. There is a camera attached to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the Redrone the bison population will continue to grow and improve. Therefore, humans can
receive more goods from the bison without diminishing the population to a large extent thus,
improving the economy. Furthermore, bison have mass migrated outside of Yellowstone National Park
which has upset local and state governments. The Redrone will help control these mass migrations by
leading the bison back into National Parks consequently solving political issues and conclusions.
Ultimately, by assisting the bison the Redrone creates political and economic implications and
solutions. Providing a service, improving the life of bison, the grasslands, and humans along with
creating political and economic conclusions are tasks that the Redrone can complete. Robots are used
to complete tasks that are impossible, dull, or dangerous for humans to do such as, aiding and

The Philosophical Debate On Moral Responsibility
Philosophical debate on moral responsibility has a long history. Thousands of years, many
philosophers have debated on whether human beings are morally responsible for their actions. To
answer this question, philosophers use terms like free will, determinism, compatibility and
deservingness to help it. The question is still a major issue addressed today. To be morally responsible
means to accept praise, blame, reward, or punishment for an act or omission in accordance with one s
moral obligations. People could argue that they have free will or not. According to general knowledge
of free will, free will can be defined as the ability to do things on ones own discretion. Thus, in this
paper I will argue that humans are morally responsible for their actions. I will prove this by using the
concepts of Free will and determinism. Free will in the sense that for humans to be morally
responsible for an action, one has to be free and conscious of his or her decision. In the case of
Determinism, the presence of causation and external forces has minimal effect or no effect on moral
responsibility.
Free will
Human beings are morally responsible for their actions because they posess free will. Free will is a
choice or a desire to do something of ones accord. According to Paul Edward, a philosopher, when we
call an action free we mean that the agent is not compelled or constrained to perform it. (Edward).
One might argue that people act in certain ways because they have been drugged or

The Importance Of Cancer Cells In Tumours
13It is well documented that many types of tumours contain cancer cells with heterogeneous
phenotypes reflecting aspects of the differentiation that normally occurs in the tissues from which the
tumours arise. The variable expression of normal differentiation markers by cancer cells in a tumour
suggests that some of the heterogeneity in tumours arises as a result of the anomalous differentiation
of tumour cells. Examples of this include the variable expression of myeloid markers in chronic
myeloid leukaemia, the variable expression of neuronal markers within peripheral neurectodermal
tumours, and the variable expression of milk proteins or the oestrogen receptor within breast cancer
For many years researchers have been interested in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Karyotype analyses of parental and clonally derived tumor cells expressed many consistent (clonal),
along with unique chromosomal aberrations, suggesting the presence of chromosomal instability in the
cancer stem cells. Thus, this new model for cancer origin and metastatic progression includes features
of both the hierarchical model for cancerous stem cells and the stochastic model, driven by the
observation of chromosomal instability.
According to the stochastic model, tumor cells are biologically equivalent but their behavior is
influenced by intrinsic and extrinsic factors and is therefore both variable and unpredictable. Thus,
tumor initiating activity cannot be enriched by sorting cells based on intrinsic characteristics.
A more recent model of cancer, the CSCs Model, covers issues not completely explained by the
Stochastic Theory, such as tumor recurrence after treatment. The CSCs Model states that surviving,
transformed sub clones that form part of tumors have SCs properties that allow them to drive tumor
progression. The CSCs Model is unidirectional in that SCs like cells may generate progenitor daughter
cells (transit amplifying cells) that in turn divide to produce differentiated (nontumorigenic) cells.
Cellular heterogeneity within tumors depends on factors including the already mentioned branching
mutation patterns and on cues from the TME. Thus, the TME can contribute to cell transformation

Mass Markets and Mass Production
In today s world, Mass Markets have lost its appeal. The time where mass production of goods and
services for all customers are long gone. Mass Marketing is paving way for Niche Marketing using
more personalised approach. Mass Markets as we know are large unsegmented or undifferentiated
market where products and services are offered to every consumer using mass marketing techniques.
On the other hand, Mass Marketing is referred to as the market coverage approach where companies
use one particular idea on the entire mass market.
The focus of Mass Markets is gradually shifting towards Niche Markets. Such markets mainly focus
on particular products to a much defined audience unlike mass markets. The product is customised
and made according to customers needs hence the customer is also ready pay for their preferred
product.
One of the examples of such mass markets was Coca Cola. Around the 1880 s, Asa Griggs Candler
bought the rights of Coca Cola originally from John Pemberton. He made unique changes to its
packaging and logo to attract its customers. He sold Coca Cola through huge advertising spending to
the mass audience becoming the first person to use this technique of mass marketing which made
Coca Cola one the most successful brands in the soft drinks sector.
The concept of mass markets first came into existence during the Second World War. During this time,
there was an increased need to produce electronic equipment s like the Radio and Television giving
rise to mass

The Biodiversity At Lido Beach
Abstract This study investigated the biodiversity at Lido Beach in Long Island. The objective was to
investigate how biodiversity changed for areas away from human habitat. Salt marshes and wetland
are under severe threat due to irresponsible actions on the part of humans. There needs to be an
awareness and understanding in the general public as to the importance of these natural habitats and
their significance to the general ecosystem. There is enough evidence to suggest the degradation has
already happened, and how critical it is to protect salt marshes and wetlands. The results were
encouraging as they pointed in the general direction that diversity was not impacted close to the
pathway that was subjected to human traffic. However, the data collected did not point to any specific
conclusions. Nonetheless, it provided valuable information on the subject of the study. The results for
the entire class data indicated that for richness, there was a positive correlation between the family
richness of the samples and the distance from the path. Specific results for one group for each sample
point indicated that for richness, there was more richness observed near the path than away from it.
For evenness, the results indicated that as the distance from the path increased, the evenness did not
have a clear pattern, even though there was a general increase in evenness away from the path,
especially, as shown by the 30m and 50m sampling points. For proportional

Summary Of The Night Of The Devil
Hermione woke up to, a pair of bright blue beady eyes staring right at her. Ginny! Hermione screamed
falling onto the cold hard floor. You know, most people nudge the person they want to wake up...or
wait. She grumbled looking at Ginny, who was laughing on the floor. Sorry, I thought it would be
funny. And I was right Ginny giggled helping Hermione up. Hermione just huffed then walked away
to get ready for the school day. So what do you think of this new student Rose? Hermione asked
Ginny walking down the stairs to the common room. I don t really know, all I know is she s a

Well we don t exactly know, this is our first year having one, but I guessing it will around lunch time,
Hermione said, looking at the rest of her friends knowing they know they got in, Well we ll worry
about that later, for now let s get to class before Professor Flitwick has our heads, Harry chuckled. For
Hermione the first few classes dragged on. Flitwick just reviewed what they already learned from their
sixth year. Potions with Slughorn was the same way but they reviewed safety for when making
potions. And Herbology well... It s Herbology. It was a relief for her when they were dismissed for
lunch. Just as Hermione assumed the list for who was in the Glee Club was up on the bulletin board
outside the great hall. She s pushed her way through the crowed to see who was on the list. Obviously
Harry, Ginny, Ron, Neville, Luna and herself were on the list. Rose was on the list. A few Ravenclaws

Example Of Leading By Example
Lead by Example: Fact or Fiction My family is really important to me. This is because they are always
helping me with my life. They help me decide what to do. The main person that leads me by example
is my sister Sara. She is always helping me up and down. Although, we fight, we make up. Two other
people that lead me by example are my mom and dad. They always tell me that you have to do
whatever you put your mind to. Leading by example is a big priority in my life because what you do
can affect other people in many different ways. But everyone is a leader if they try their best. People
may doubt what you say, but they will believe what you do. Lewis Cass. Any body can lead by
example, it is simple if you try your best. Leaders are right in front of you. Parents, and teachers. They
try and lead you onto the right path. When you grow up with your parents and teachers leading you to
the right path. That will guide you to help other people on the right path. An article by Brent Gleeson

Historical Development Of Haute Couture
This essay will be considering the historical development of haute couture by analysing Charles
Frederick Worth s (father of haute couture) key factors in the success of haute Couture. I will then
discuss Coco Chanel s thriving impact on haute couture as well as ready to wear caused by the second
world war. Saint Laurent s drift to ready to wear and the high street fashion system will also be
discussed in order to answer if haute couture is relevant in fashion today. The books I will be
analysing and referencing are A Cultural History of Fashion in the 20th Century by Bonnie English,
Couture by Ruth Lynam, How Fashion Works by Gavin Waddell. Which will thoroughly breakdown
the evolution and historical development of fashion by cultural, economic, environmental and social
changes to finally come into a conclusion.
The attraction to Englishman Charles Frederick Worth s garments caused by royalty was the origin to
the relevance and recognition of haute Couture in the 19th Century. Ruth Lynam, editor of Couture
concludes the growth of Worth s wealth, she states: The princess was the instrument of good fortune
for Charles Worth... (Lynam, 1972:54) What Lynam seems to be stating is the pecuniary advantage the
Princess Pauline de Metternich supported with her admiration for his creations. The promotion of his
designs are partly owed to the princess however without the recognition perhaps haute couture wouldn
t have been relevant or would not have been as effective. The

God s Foolishness Is Better Than Human Wisdom
For God s foolishness is wiser than human wisdom, and God s weakness is stronger than human
strength. Consider your own call, brothers and sisters: not many of you were wise by human
standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. But God chose what is foolish in
the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose
what is low and despised in the world, things that are not, to reduce to nothing things that are, so that
no one might boast in the presence of God. He is the source of your life in Christ Jesus, who became
for us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification and redemption, in order that, as it is
written, Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord. 1 Corinthians 1:25 31 Because the foolishness of
God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.Christ on the cross appeared to
be weakness in the eyes of people; but that weakness of God was stronger than men and everything
that men could produce. [22] The sign seeking Jews could not comprehend the mighty sign of the
prophet Jonah, enacted before their very eyes; and the wisdom seeking Greeks could not discern the
most profound wisdom in all history, not even after it had been preached to them! Despite this,
however, the rolling centuries have vindicated the truth which Paul here proclaimed. We have
borrowed this subtitle from Barclay, for it accurately summarizes the argument Paul was about to
make. He would use the

A: That s the main thing of every church if they do what God told them to do. Q: Do you disagree with any aspects of your religion? A:No, usually no. However, we just had a controversy and parted ways with the head of the movement because he got involved with politics. During a prolonged period of time some leaders were attempting to go into politics, finally they achieved it, but many of the other leaders did not agree with it, so we parted ways. They were trying to get into political positions in Colombia. We left but at the same time we didn t, the Centi divided but we kept the name and those who stayed with him changed their name to ICT, International Conference of Theotherapy. Q: Do you talk to others about your religion? What is the most common misconception? A: I talk to many other Christians or Catholics, but normally I don t because I don t have those connections, I don t really know people from other religions. If I am asked about my religion I respond that I am Christian , if they ask about my church I tell they I belong to Centi, if they ask what Centi means I explain to them where it comes from, what we practice, etc. Centi is not my religion, I don t have a religion, it is my church or my congression, but in reality my religion is ... • 3. The Bi-Polar World Order Essay Under the ruins of the World War II (WWII), a new world order was beginning to appear. The old and weak European powers, were devastated from the war, and could no longer hold the world on its shoulders. Subsequently, new superpowers had to take over the control; they were the USSR and the USA. Soon after the end of WWII, new international tensions became apparent after the break of the Grand Alliance (Taylor, 1993, p. 49). The disagreements between the new superpowers grew to a point where the Cold War became a fact. That new world order split the world ideologically into two camps; the anti imperialist(USA) and the anti capitalist(USSR)(Ibid, p.51).The ideological war was underlined by a geopolitical transition, subsequently creating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the start of the Cold War, however, the concept was developed and incorporated within its rhetoric (Dodds, 2000, p.61). For Agnew, the term began to be referred to the newly formed states, product from the ongoing wind of change (Taylor, 1993, p.55), and other states that were outside the settled spheres of influence of the superpowers (Agnew, 1998, p.112). However, in the Cold War rhetoric the Third World still referred, in certain a certain sense, to another way the Third Way. According to Agnew, those states signified the resistance to the dominating political and economic discourse of the Cold War (Ibid, p.113). Those resistances led to the creation of the Non Alignment Movement (NAM), in 1961. It included, member states, such as Egypt, India and Yugoslavia. The idea of the movement, according to Dodds(2000, pp.57 8), was to resist the geopolitical pressures of the Cold War, and to establish a forum where common problems could be discussed, without any interference from the superpowers. As it appeared this wasn t the only rationale behind the creation of NAM. In the NAM summit of 1973, in Algiers, the member states committed to pursue a New form of International Economic Order (NIEO), aimed at reducing the economic and political gap between the North and the South (Ibid, 58). • 4. The Voice of Reason in Tartuffe by Jean-Baptiste Poquelin... Jean Baptiste Poquelin Moliere wrote Tartuffe during the beginning of the Age of Enlightenment. One of the main characteristics of the Age of Enlightenment was a push towards using reason over emotions to make decisions. The leaders of the enlightenment truly believed that the world could be made a better place if people did this. In Tartuffe, when the characters use their emotions to make their decisions they find themselves in undesirable situations. While those who let their emotions rule them find their lives spinning out of control, there are other characters in the play who try to approach them with reason and logic. Out of these characters the lady s maid Dorine stands out as the voice of reason. There are several stock characters ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I m far less awed;/ In fact, I see right through him. He s a fraud. (I.1.69 70) Dorine s blunt words carry more weight than the other characters in this scene for several reasons. Dorine represents the average person more than anyone else in the play. She is not highly educated like Cleante and she did not have the upbringing that the other characters did. For someone in her position, a lady s maid, to see the truth so clearly, it exaggerates the absurdity that Orgon and Madame Pernelle do not. In Dramatic Justice in Tartuffe, Myrna Kogan Zwillenberg wrote, To be sure, Molière has taken the precaution of signaling such incidents by having the servant Dorine express her exaggerated moral outrage, a significant device which pinpoints the areas meant to be ridiculous. (Myrna Kogan Zwillenberg 1) It seems that Moliere was more than likely making a statement with Dorine s character, that anyone can use their common sense. It does not take a college education or fine upbringing to see through the mask that some people present themselves with. Dorine was his way of encouraging others to see what lies are right in front of their face. The play was very controversial for the time it was written in, and in fact had to be rewritten in order for it to be performed. Moliere also had to petition for permission for Tartuffe to be performed. There are several political views hidden in the lines. Dorine speaks out against ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Greg Gage Greg Gage explains that the brain is a fascinating organ. He adds that not much is known about how the brain works because neuroscience is not being taught in schools. This is because the equipment needed to study neuroscience is extremely complex and expensive that this research is only completed at large institutions and major universities. In order to use these tools, one must devote their life and study for about six years to gain access to these materials. His lab partner and himself brought it upon themselves to create an affordable, simplified version of this equipment that virtually anybody could use. They created a company called Backyard Brians that uses DIY neuroscience equipment. He wanted to put his new technology to use, so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Schools all across the country claim the main reason for no doing so, as of now, is because they do not have the proper technology to teach the topic effectively. Fortunately, the technology that Gage has created is an affordable and efficient solution to the school s dilemma. By teaching basics of the science, children may have an inclination to study neuroscience in later years, such as college. The few amount of neuroscientists in the world now can be blamed on schools for not giving baseline information to students, and therefore not allowing them to become interested neuroscience. Traditionally, even if one expressed enthusiasm in the topic, it would take years of schooling until one could even use the tools available for scientists. Twenty percent of the world suffer from a neurological disorder, and no cure has been found for these diseases. This is partly because of the fact that not many people study neuroscience and therefore is a lack of information in the field. By using Gage s new technology in schools to help explain neuroscience, the topic would become more popular, and because of this, society as a whole could grow to learn more about the study of the brain, which would benefit everybody in the long ... • 6. James Baldwin s Sonny s Blues James Baldwin brings you on an emotional ride through Harlem in the 1950 s with his short story, Sonny s Blues. From the beginning, we are in media res when the unnamed narrator is informed of bad news concerning his younger, troubled brother, Sonny. Throughout the story we witness the ocean of emotions between these two brothers battling hardships from their past, through flashbacks, and present time. The setting plays an important role in Sonny s Blues to an extent where it is practically a character in the story. The city of Harlem is a reminder of their troubles and the suffering it ignites is exactly what Sonny tries to run away from when he turns to drugs and jazz music. Through the setting of Sonny s Blues, and the example of the relationship between the narrator and his younger brother, Sonny, James Baldwin presents how a dark past full of suffering can influence present lives and relationships. The sequence of events is not in chronological order since the narrator goes from present, to past, and back to present in order to illustrate the suffering experienced by both brothers and to emphasize the impact the past has on the present. During present time, Sonny is sentenced to prison for heroine abuse. The narrator and Sonny are not close at this time because he doesn t try to understand Sonny until his little girl dies and he has some of his own suffering to deal with. I was sitting in the living room in the dark, by myself, and I suddenly thought of Sonny. My ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Protecting Against Terrorist Attacks in Urban... Introduction Blast protection, until recently, has only needed to be considered when constructing underground shelters and military bunkers. Currently, however, there is a need for urban buildings and similar structures used consistently by the general public to withstand forces from nearby explosions. This need is due to the recent climb in terrorist attacks in urban or crowded environments. These attacks have used the lack of blast resistance in these buildings as a means for creating widespread havoc through detonating an improvised explosive device (IED). These devices range from explosives planted inside a structure to roadside or vehicular bombs. An urban environment causes even relatively small explosions to be extremely potent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Structures that collapse in an urban environment result in casualties inside the building and also result in collateral damage that may cause nearby structures to also collapse. This effect was seen in the collapse of the World Trade Center in New York City, although this collapse was not a result of the initial explosion. Had the towers not collapsed, it is estimated that close to half of the deaths could have been prevented (Dwyer). • 9. The Battle Of The Somme Offensive The Battle of the Somme, also known as the Somme Offensive, was a battle of the First World War. The battle was fought by the armies of the British and French empires against the German Empire, including Australia who came to support the mother county . It took place between 1th July and 18th November 1916 on both sides of the River Somme in France. It was one of the largest battles of World War I, in which more than 1,000,000 men were wounded or killed, making it one of the bloodiest battles in human history. (Wikipedia, 2015) The Somme offensive was planned in December 1915 and was intended as a joint French British attack. The French Commander in Chief, General Joffre, conceived the idea as a battle to reduce the German empire s strength and effectiveness through continual attack and create a distraction for the Germans to relieve some of the pressure for the French, although territorial gain was a secondary aim. (Firstworldwar.com, 2009) For a number of months, the French had been taking severe losses at the Battle of Verdun (which took place at the east of Paris). In order to take German pressure off the French, the Allied High Command attacked the Germans north of Verdun therefore requiring the Germans to move some of their men away. (Toor, 2014) The plan was agreed upon by the new British Commander in Chief, Sir Douglas Haig and by the British government, who granted authorisation to conduct the offensive. • 10. Adulthood In William Faulkner s Barn Burning When does someone reach adulthood? Usually, one defines themselves as an adult when they turn eighteen, but there is more than simply turning another year older. Adulthood has a physical aspect where by turning eighteen a person is considered an adult biologically, but there is a psychological aspect as well where a person is mentally mature and able to make decisions for themselves. In Barn Burning by William Faulkner, he writes about a young, hungry, and illiterate boy, Colonel Sartoris, who deals with the matters of right and wrong. He has to make a decision on sticking with his blood, even though he is treated wrongly by his father, or doing what he feels is right. The events that led up to the narrator s moment of epiphany, involved him and his friends starting trouble with someone they mistaken as their friend and almost rape a girl, but are snapped out of their actions by the approaching headlights from another car (Boyle 531 532). This can be an indication of the narrator s lack of mental maturity as he is not concerned with the consequences of this actions, eventually leading to the narrator s two moments of epiphany. The first moment of epiphany occurs when he finds a dead body floating in the lake while he is hiding with his friends in the lake (Boyle 533). Consequently, by him injuring a person it leads him to a dead corpse of another, realizing what his actions of acting bad could result to. The second was when he thinks back to the dead man floating in the lake, who is probably the only person on the planet worse off than I [the narrator] was (Boyle 534). At this point in time, the narrator realizes his actions could have been more fatal than just some bruises. Personally, I am not one to be extremely impacted by events, but some of the events I have experienced really did leave a lasting effect on me as an individual. Life changing events are not always negative, but in my case the events that changed my life had not benefited me. I do believe that these events matured me, but I still do feel devastated that these events had to have happened in the first place. • 13. True Grit Analysis St. George, South Carolina claims to be the Grits Capital of the World , eating more pounds of grits per capita than any place else in the world. Grit, what is it? Well it can be food or a personality trait, depending on how you look at it. This question is underlined in the novel True Grit. This idea of grit comes from the book True Grit by Charles Portis, about a 14 yr. old girl, Mattie Ross, who has come to find someone with grit to avenge her father. She hires a U.S Marshall named Rooster Cogburn who brings along a Texas Ranger named La Boeuf to help her capture and/or kill her father s murderer, named Tom Chaney. Through this story Portis explores characters who have grit and those who lack it. Several definitions of grit are brought ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In my opinion someone with true grit is not being pitiless, tough and fearless. Mattie reiterates this grit description by telling him, They tell me you are a man with true grit (Portis 59). I disagree with Mattie on this one, to me there are other traits of true grit shown later that describe the meaning of grit better. This tells us that Rooster has a grit that is different from Mattie s grit shown in the book, and that grit can also mean being harsh, resilient and fearless. Rooster and them finally run into the gang that Chaney is in, led by Lucky Ned Pepper. At this point Ned s gang has left Chaney with Mattie, to cash their stolen goods when La Boeuf and Rooster come to halt them in their tracks. La Boeuf knocks Chaney out while Rooster challenges the band of four bandit s head on, like so, He took the reins in his teeth and pulled the other saddle revolver and drove his spurs into the flanks of his strong horse and charged directly at the bandits (Portis 201). This action quote is my favorite display of Rooster s true grit because he shows it as being bold and courageous. Rooster kills all but one, by means of this action he illustrates grit in his boldness, strength and roughness by literally gritting his teeth together to perform this act of true grit. After this event, Mattie is poisoned by a snake bite and Rooster shows grit again by risking many things, including his hat, Rooster lost his hat and never looked back (Portis 215). I have a favorite hat and would be sad to lose it, so for me this shows that Rooster s meaning of grit changed. If it wasn t for his care about Mattie, he probably would have turned back for his hat. He did it to save Mattie s life, displaying a different type of grit, one of valor, resolution and care of her. While Rooster showed us more sides to grit, La Boeuf surprisingly proved that even Texas ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Dr. Venkman believes that psychics are the only one who has this special clairvoyant power that no regular person has. 1b. In his article How ESP Works, Tom Harris reveals that no one are ability to prove that extra sensory perception (ESP), exist. For example, Harris uses the scenario of a man who wrote a book about a sunken ship, which had the same description as the Titanic. The book was published before the Titanic was built. He was rewarded as a psychic, however this scenario limits the scientific method because it occurs in an uncontrolled environment. In order to effectively demonstrate some good evidences, scientists need to conduct an experiment that has a closely controlled condition. In John Thomas facts sheet, he mentions that the evidences cited for ESP are usually anecdotal. He states these anecdotal claimed that scientific tests at respected research institutions have conclusively demonstrated that ESP exists. Therefore, enlightened eugenics calls for the education on the basis of minimalist eugenics while responsible eugenics would use reliable genetic tests in order to avoid neurological diseases and prevent the previously mentioned dangers caused by laissez faire eugenics. Kitcher s view of utopian eugenics envisions a society in which genetics allow people to make free and educated reproductive choices and in which the education broadens an understanding of the likely quality of a modest life. Contrary to Kitcher s minimalist model that constrains eugenic decisions only to avoid neurological diseases, Gregory Stock s position in the debate defends maximalist eugenics in which individuals have total free eugenic decision making, including enhancement, without any state coercion. He wants readers to accept and adopt such a position by arguing that genetic engineering such as selecting and alternating embryos is an inevitable future and human destiny (7, Stock, CC p.279). For example, if redesigning humans became commonplace, Stock reasons that parents would give their children endowments they desire but could not otherwise obtain and thus further expand life s possibilities to the next generation (8, Stock, CC p.276). Cultural change, the explosion of free love, youthful rebellion, and a new liberal mindset all seemed to have one underlying device in common; drug use. The late 1960 s into the early and mid 70 s found the perfect environment for recreational drug use. Music and arts celebrated this lifestyle, as well as free thinkers and their idiotic philosophies about spiritual elation through mind altering narcotics. Lack of family structure with so many homes transformed by the Vietnam War also left young teens without guidance, and an economy with little to offer to the up and coming generation. As the next few years passed and the free love generation began to grasp the concept of working for a living, showering on a regular basis, love with commitment (or antibiotics), and cultural change through policy, they brought to the workforce a new dynamic not previously prevalent. Recreational drug use had become part of society. Vietnam War veterans also brought their own demons home with their return, opiate addictions were a common occurrence (Carson 2012). This new dynamic was seen initially in 1971 by the National Household Survey on Drug Abuse (NHSDA) spearheaded by the Office of National Drug Control Policy. • 26. The Philosophical Debate On Moral Responsibility Philosophical debate on moral responsibility has a long history. Thousands of years, many philosophers have debated on whether human beings are morally responsible for their actions. To answer this question, philosophers use terms like free will, determinism, compatibility and deservingness to help it. The question is still a major issue addressed today. To be morally responsible means to accept praise, blame, reward, or punishment for an act or omission in accordance with one s moral obligations. People could argue that they have free will or not. According to general knowledge of free will, free will can be defined as the ability to do things on ones own discretion. Thus, in this paper I will argue that humans are morally responsible for their actions. I will prove this by using the concepts of Free will and determinism. Free will in the sense that for humans to be morally responsible for an action, one has to be free and conscious of his or her decision. In the case of Determinism, the presence of causation and external forces has minimal effect or no effect on moral responsibility. Free will Human beings are morally responsible for their actions because they posess free will. Free will is a choice or a desire to do something of ones accord. According to Paul Edward, a philosopher, when we call an action free we mean that the agent is not compelled or constrained to perform it. (Edward). The Importance Of Cancer Cells In Tumours 13It is well documented that many types of tumours contain cancer cells with heterogeneous phenotypes reflecting aspects of the differentiation that normally occurs in the tissues from which the tumours arise. The variable expression of normal differentiation markers by cancer cells in a tumour suggests that some of the heterogeneity in tumours arises as a result of the anomalous differentiation of tumour cells. Examples of this include the variable expression of myeloid markers in chronic myeloid leukaemia, the variable expression of neuronal markers within peripheral neurectodermal tumours, and the variable expression of milk proteins or the oestrogen receptor within breast cancer For many years researchers have been interested in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Karyotype analyses of parental and clonally derived tumor cells expressed many consistent (clonal), along with unique chromosomal aberrations, suggesting the presence of chromosomal instability in the cancer stem cells. Thus, this new model for cancer origin and metastatic progression includes features of both the hierarchical model for cancerous stem cells and the stochastic model, driven by the observation of chromosomal instability. According to the stochastic model, tumor cells are biologically equivalent but their behavior is influenced by intrinsic and extrinsic factors and is therefore both variable and unpredictable. Thus, tumor initiating activity cannot be enriched by sorting cells based on intrinsic characteristics. A more recent model of cancer, the CSCs Model, covers issues not completely explained by the Stochastic Theory, such as tumor recurrence after treatment. The CSCs Model states that surviving, transformed sub clones that form part of tumors have SCs properties that allow them to drive tumor progression. The CSCs Model is unidirectional in that SCs like cells may generate progenitor daughter cells (transit amplifying cells) that in turn divide to produce differentiated (nontumorigenic) cells. Cellular heterogeneity within tumors depends on factors including the already mentioned branching mutation patterns and on cues from the TME. There needs to be an awareness and understanding in the general public as to the importance of these natural habitats and their significance to the general ecosystem. There is enough evidence to suggest the degradation has already happened, and how critical it is to protect salt marshes and wetlands. The results were encouraging as they pointed in the general direction that diversity was not impacted close to the pathway that was subjected to human traffic. However, the data collected did not point to any specific conclusions. Nonetheless, it provided valuable information on the subject of the study. The results for the entire class data indicated that for richness, there was a positive correlation between the family richness of the samples and the distance from the path. • 33. Historical Development Of Haute Couture This essay will be considering the historical development of haute couture by analysing Charles Frederick Worth s (father of haute couture) key factors in the success of haute Couture. I will then discuss Coco Chanel s thriving impact on haute couture as well as ready to wear caused by the second world war. Saint Laurent s drift to ready to wear and the high street fashion system will also be discussed in order to answer if haute couture is relevant in fashion today. The books I will be analysing and referencing are A Cultural History of Fashion in the 20th Century by Bonnie English, Couture by Ruth Lynam, How Fashion Works by Gavin Waddell. Which will thoroughly breakdown the evolution and historical development of fashion by cultural, economic, environmental and social changes to finally come into a conclusion. But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, things that are not, to reduce to nothing things that are, so that no one might boast in the presence of God. He is the source of your life in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification and redemption, in order that, as it is written, Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord. 1 Corinthians 1:25 31 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.Christ on the cross appeared to be weakness in the eyes of people; but that weakness of God was stronger than men and everything that men could produce. [22] The sign seeking Jews could not comprehend the mighty sign of the prophet Jonah, enacted before their very eyes; and the wisdom seeking Greeks could not discern the most profound wisdom in all history, not even after it had been preached to them! Despite this, however, the rolling centuries have vindicated the truth which Paul here proclaimed. We have borrowed this subtitle from Barclay, for it accurately summarizes the argument Paul was about to make. He would use the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
