Prison reform is an issue that has been a concern for a long period of time. The problems that Angela
Davis brings up throughout her book are only some of the problems with the prison system. Whether
it be the influence of corporations on prisons and legislators, the role that racism plays, or the safety of
the prisoners. Her solution to these problems is the abolition of jails and prisons by creating policies
that will reduce the number of people sent to prison. This would destroy the prison system as the main

rather than retribution. I find myself to agree with many of the concerns that she lists and believe her
argument to be somewhat convincing. However, I do not believe that a complete abolition of prisons

Waiting to find out my internship placement, interviewing with my placement, and starting work has
been the most exciting part of my graduate education to date. I was placed with Walton County
Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS) and started working with them in the last week

equipped me for the field work I have already done and hopefully for the field work to come. While

only do I get to learn about what is going on in their lives, I also get to learn about how they feel about
it, what they think about it, and see their expressions and emotions as they relay this information to

have textbooks that give scenarios and scripted interviews, but a book is never able to fully capture the

manifestation of Jewish dissent, but the limited number of attempted uprisings in extermination camps
raises profound questions about the Jewish people s motivation to perform active resistance. Passive
resistance committed by Jewish prisoners within the concentration camp system was of crucial
importance towards maintaining dignity and hope among the populace and therefore should not be
excluded when examining the overall strength of Jewish resolve. Nazi extermination camps operated
under distinct and divergent principles that resulted in Jews developing unique values and beliefs that
varied considerably depending on the facility that they survived. Slave labour and the emotional
turmoil of dehumanisation were immensely damaging to Jewish morale and must be considered an
integral part of the Jewish struggle for survival. Primary sources, in particular oral testimonies, shed
light on the topic of Jewish endurance in the face of Nazi barbarism by vividly creating an unfiltered
frame of reference against which both the abject malevolence of the Holocaust and the tenacity of the
Jewish people become self evident.

men and women that were very unforgiving and glum. There is a point at which the unfortunate and

Violence In The Oresteia
In the trilogy The Oresteia, Aeschylus shows the never ending cycle of violence within the house of
Atreus. The cycle acts as a net entrapping Agamemnon, Clytemnestra, Orestes, and many other
characters and producing actions throughout the play that provoke the audience to contemplate right
versus wrong, self help justice (in the form of revenge) versus justice by trial, and honor versus
dignity. Although the events taking place throughout the play are outlandish, the audience can still
look at the character s actions and thoughts and see that they are genuinely understandable human

While Clytemnestra turned on Agamemnon in order to avenge her daughter s death an action that most
people can understand the chorus decides to turn on Clytemnestra due to her outrageous crime. The
chorus concern does not lie within loyalty to the family though, it lies within the loyalty of seeking
justice for wrong doings. The chorus states that, The plunderer plundered, the killer pays the price, (L
1590) leading the audience to believe that the chorus views Agamemnon s death as justifiable
considering that Clytemnestra is only murdering the murderer. Instead, the chorus believes that
Agamemnon s death is a huge loss to the community due to his status as a war hero. Therefore, the
chorus views the sacrifice of Iphigenia as a necessary price to pay in order to do the greater good,
which in this case was fighting the war. The valor that emerges from a successful war is something to
be proud of, especially in the context of the play, which is why the audience could also rationalize the
chorus point of view one death in order to continue on in a war that could save thousands of people
from dying is quite miniscule. By continuing the war efforts, countrymen began to accept
Agamemnon acceptance being an integral part of human nature. In this case, the audience can
understand wanting to have the acceptance of his country rather than the acceptance of his wife, thus
further making this scene seem even more
